Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, Capitulo 1, Tuesday, September 11, 2018; “Long Lost Relatives Appear”

We begin with an aerial view of Oaxaca and a narration from Julieta. It is nine months later since the last scene where it appeared that Doña Imelda had a heart attack.  Julieta recaps how she never really wanted a family, and much less having in laws. But Robert convinced her otherwise and now she cannot live without her family. She says that no perfect family exists and problems never seem to end. But the family is the refuge where all life begins and where love never ends. As she ends the narration, the camera zooms in on the Córcega family. They are all dressed in black and seem to be at a funeral service. At first, I wondered if Doña Imelda had passed away. But then you never know. All the Córcega brothers are alive and putting bread on the grave. Everyone looks very sad. We see little David looking very sad along with Robert. Then we see Frida there in tears! They keep you in suspense as to who died! It almost makes you feel as though Julieta died, but you know that can’t be true. Finally we see Julieta running into the cemetery apologizing for her tardiness and joining the rest of the family.

The camera then zooms in on Doña Imelda, so now we know she lived through her ordeal from the last show. We do not see Linda, Marisol, or Xavi. Is it one of them? No, the camera finally shows who died, Canuto Córcega; he died in 1960! As they are “talking” to Canuto and sharing memories, Julieta’s virtual assistant speaks and interrupts everything. Blanca says that Julieta communicates more with “Pili” than with them. Imelda begins to speak of her memories and the song Canuto used to love so much. Then they all start singing this ballad…

The scene changes to an older man driving in his old pick-up truck and on his radio the same song is playing. The man, played by Carlos Bracho, pulls up in front of the Córcega’s bakery. He gets out, looks around and has a look on his face like he’s just come home.

The Córcega family files out of the cemetery together. Julieta tells Robert that she finds it incredible that his grandmother still misses his grandfather after more than 50 years. Robert counters that he would miss her every second of the day. Julieta says they have many more years to live and she can’t imagine life without him. Then they catch up with Blanca and Eugenio. Blanca tells them not to forget lunch later and complains about not seeing them enough. David says that they go over every Sunday, but Blanca says that is not enough. “A grandma wants to see her grandchildren all the time!” says Blanca. Eugenio tells Blanca to relax and reminds them that their children have their own lives, but Blanca won’t have any of it. “Pili” interrupts again and Blanca says she hates that woman. No, not Julieta, Pili!

Back at the bakery, the older stranger is eating his pán de frijol and enjoying it immensely. He looks like he died and went to heaven. Then he goes over to the counter and wants to purchase all that they have on hand. He asks who owns this bakery and the employee tells him it’s Eugenio and Blanca Córcega. She points to the window and says that they are just arriving back. She explains that Doña Imelda had owned the bakery with her husband, but unfortunately, he had died. Our older stranger looks out the window as though he recognizes Imelda and stares at her.

The family sits down to their meal and Julieta’s virtual assistant goes off again. Imelda complains that it’s always telling Julieta what to do. Amalia says, “Well then Pili is a lot like you, Imelda!” Daniela yawns and complains how tired she is because she isn’t getting enough sleep. When dinner is over, Blanca insists that she take food home because she doesn’t look well and “look at those bags/dark circles under your eyes!” Of course Polita is still helping herself to the food and she has brought her plastic containers with her. Daniela says, “Auntie, you’ll never change!” They have sweet bread for dessert and it is announced that Linda is studying in Italy and Marisol is traveling with Xavi and that they are very much missed! A food fight begins, but is quickly stopped by Eugenio.

Julieta has excused herself to the bathroom to catch her composure, but when she opens the door to come out, there stands Blanca at the door going through her nagging routine again! She is complaining about not getting to take care of the grandchildren. Julieta explains that she and Robert are trying to work things out their way and why doesn’t she enjoy the peace and quiet at home now. Blanca just rolls her eyes in a “yeah right” way. Julieta tells Blanca that she loves her very much and Blanca responds, “But you also want me far away.” Julieta just sighs and folds her arms. Blanca goes on and on and finally “Pili” announces that it’s time to leave. Blanca leaves in frustration.

A mysterious woman sits at her computer looking through photos of Julieta, Robert, and the family on her computer. She watches a video of some kind of seminar for successful women and Julieta is the main speaker. The motivational speech is about how a woman can be successful and apply her organizational skills to further her career, achieve her dreams, and tale care of her family. “And remember, the secret is in getting organized.” Mystery woman just smiles, almost mockingly, as she listens to the words.

Daniela and Gabriel are at their apartment painting the toys. Gabe wants to know if its quitting time but Dani reminds him of all the other things they need to do. But Gabe doesn’t think they need to go get groceries. They check the fridge and it’s empty. Nothing by half a cucumber in there. Dani is frustrated with Gabe because he hasn’t done any grocery shopping, nor has he turned in their recycling.

At the older stranger’s home, he is cooking up some kind of shrimp soup in clay pots. His wife walks in and tells him he hasn’t been paying attention to her. They kiss, then she asks him if he is dreaming of another woman because if he is, she will kill her. After she leaves, mystery older man is nervous and he knocks over the soup pot, severely burning his arm.

Dani and Gabe continue discussing their situation. She suggests that they separate---but Gabe says, “What?” Dani explains that they do their chores separately so that they can get more done. Whew, Gabe was worried there for a minute. “But” he says, “I promise you that everything will work out fine.” They kiss, but a hanging light fixture falls on their heads.

Our mystery older man is walking down the street with his injured and burned arm. He crosses the street in front of a dark SUV with a driver who is driving Imelda. The driver honks at him and Imelda just looks at him like she recognizes him. He crosses and stops to try to control his pain. It’s obvious he is in a lot of pain from this burn. [So who is he? Does Imelda have an old flame?]

Blanca arrives home and is looking for Eugenio. She calls him name through the apartment and he doesn’t answer. She finds him in their daughters’ old room curled up on a bed. The problem is he misses them so much! He just can’t get used to having an empty nest.

Julieta and Cassandra are walking into work at CKlass where everything is hopping. Cassandra tells Julieta that some woman is there to see her and she doesn’t know who she is. So Julieta hands little Blancita over to Cassandra and says she will be right back. Cassandra wants to do a selfie with Blancita, but Julieta says, “no selfies.” Then Julieta goes to see what this mystery woman wants.

The mystery older man is over in Robert’s office for some urgent care. He takes one look at Robert and remembers when he was in the Córcega bakery and saw him get out of the vehicle with Imelda. Robert gets to work in treating him for the burn and bandaging him up. After he’s all taken care of, Mystery older man notices a family picture in Robert’s office. Mystery older man asks, “Is this your grandmother?” Then he tells mystery man that his grandfather died a long time ago and he never knew him. As Robert writes a prescription, he asks the mystery older man’s name. He responds by saying, “Tito Cruz.”

The staff at Cklass gathers together with Julieta. Mystery woman’s back is toward them and all we can see is the top of her head and her high, spikey heels. Julieta walks in and says, “I’m Julieta Aguilar.” Mystery woman turns around and says, “I know who you are. I think it’s time we have a talk.” “Wait a minute” says Julieta. “I don’t even know who you are.” Mystery woman says, “I’m your new boss.” The staff is stunned! Mystery woman thanks them and dismisses them to go back to work. Left alone together, mystery woman tells Julieta that she is sending her off too because she knows she has a lot of work to do. Throwing Julieta’s own words back at her, mystery woman says, “The secret is being organized.”

Julieta then closes the door [looks like she isn’t going to let mystery woman walk all over her] and says, “We need to talk.” Julieta is not thrilled about the way mystery woman has treated the employees and in all her years working there, nothing like that has ever happened. Mystery woman demands a report from her in two hours. “That’s not enough time.” Says Julieta. Mystery woman thinks it’s plenty of time. “But wait, I don’t know who you are and I don’t know your name.” “My name is Susana, I’m the Vice President of Administration. Now get to work. The two of us can do a lot to improve things around here.”

Julieta gets back to her office to explain this to Cassandra. She also tells Cassandra that this mystery woman’s name is Susana and she is HATEFUL.

Imelda arrives at the dress shop with her driver and notices another business opening up across the street that also seems to be a dress shop.

Tito Cruz asks Robert if his name is Cooper or Córcega. Robert says he is Cooper, he was lost when he was a little boy but it’s a long story.

Blanca is over with Polita and tells her that she is worried about Eugenio. He doesn’t want to do anything anymore and seems very depressed. Blanca starts to cry and fears that things aren’t what they used to be.

At Gabe and Dani’s Gabe is getting frustrated painting the little toy. Dani tells him that she knows he is not happy working with her on something that he does not love. They begin to kiss and move toward the bedroom, but Dani stops him because she has so much to do.

At Cklass, Cassandra and Julieta work together. Julieta’s phone reminds of David’s school function in the middle of trying to get this report done.

At David’s school [interesting that a Mexican school is named “Abraham Lincoln”] a new boy is introduced.

At the dress shop, Imelda and Amalia get to work, but Amalia tells her she looks like she saw a ghost. (Actually said, “You have the face of death on you.”) A customer walks in and Imelda tries to get her interest in a new dress. Imelda tells the customer that when she wears their dress, she will feel very elegant. But Tito Cruz’s wife comes to butt in and says, “Are you talking about me?” Imelda just rolls her eyes while Mrs. Cruz says she has come to offer better prices, better quality, and better styles. She looks at the other women shopping downstairs and says, “Do you all want to be looking like old ladies? You can get clothes at my shop that will put the spark back in your marriage.” Of course Imelda is not thrilled with this at all and wants this woman thrown out. We finally get her name—Crisanta.

Robert and his co-worker (can’t remember character’s name) talk about furthering his career. Co-workers says that Robert should enroll in courses to enhance his career. But Robert says he has too many family responsibilities right now and just can’t do it. But co-worker says that he too has to advance in his career and Julieta needs to help him out too.

Later Robert calls Julieta for a Facetime call while he’s at David’s school for an event. He streams the event to her to watch. Then Cassandra walks into Julieta’s office and frantically says the big boss is coming. Julieta isn’t worried and continues to watch. Susana walks in and sees little Blancita toddling around and just looks at her. “And how is the report going?” Julieta says, “Good. We just about finished.” “I want to see you in my office right now.” Cassandra turns around to Julieta and makes a face. “Is everything okay, Cassandra,?” says Susana. “Oh yes, everything is fine boss.” Susana then says, “That’s Master Susana for you.” Julieta can hardly keep from laughing. Susana leaves and says, “I expect the report in my office in 10 minutes.” Julieta and Cassandra both crack up laughing.

Julieta is on the phone telling Dani she needs those toys done like yesterday. “Everything is changing radically over here.” After they are off the phone, Gabe comes with Frida and there si something about them taking her out for a surprise. But Dani knew nothing about it and Gabe did not consult her. Dani gets angry at Gabe and says, “Why can’t you just be responsible even once?”

Two boys follow David outside and one starts to taunt him about his mother not coming. “I think she has abandoned you.” The other boys says to leave David alone. The two boys (not David) get into a fight.

Julieta meets with Susana in Susana’s office. Julieta wants to know if she has something against her. Susana assures her that she does not, she just wants to improve the company. Susana makes mention that Julieta’s personal responsibilities may be distracting her, but Julieta denies it. “So can you assure me that you have everything in order? Can you explain why expenses have exceeded the budget? From now on, I want you here at 7:00 a.m.!” “No Susana, I have to take my son to school.” But Susana says, “You mean they don’t have school bus transportation to school?” Julieta looks at her incredulously. Susana says, “Don’t look at me that way. I need everyone here as a team working together.” But the phone rings and Susana answers it. “Yes, this is Susana Córcega.” Julieta is stunned.

Wow it looks like things will get complicated between susana and julieta. Over the story seems to be interesting let see how it goes keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 I want to see an improvement in Robert and July relationship ❤️💕

Thank you, Cynthia, for launching this novela so beautifully. Your recap was a real pleasure to read this a.m. Thanks to you we are off to a great start!

What a welcome surprise that Imelda is still alive! I loved them starting the multigenerational story at the grave and surprising us with who they were they for.

Robert’s associate/friend is a psychologist named Octavio/Tavo.

When I heard Blanca ragging on Julieta, it made me think again about how accurately the characters were depicted in this novela and that you can’t change a leopard’s spot.

I was happy to see Carlos Bracho and hear his beautiful voice as well as Carmen Salinas. She always makes me laugh.

That is all for now.

I wholeheartedly agree with Jarifa. Cynthia, you created a fun, all encompassing recap that was pure pleasure.

"Julieta tells Blanca that she loves her very much and Blanca responds, “But you also want me far away.” And there is the heart, soul and essence of this novella. Love, but space enough to breathe.

It was so much fun reacquainting ourselves with everyone. I do miss Marisol - will she not be in this? And I like Carlos Bracho and of course my absolute fav Susana, will likely be carving out a niche for herself albeit not too pleasant a one it appears. She is just beautiful and I am suspecting she will in time step into the light side. "Master"? Eye roll and head shake.

Gabe and Dani were a sight for sore eyes. Gabe looks like an apostle, but I kind of like the "luke". It is good to see the spark and sizzle are still there and I hope Dani's annoyance of his daydreaming ways soon dissipates.

Robert is looking gooood. Lots of eye candy here. I also think the actor is very appealing and the character is really what every good galan should aspire to be.

Relieved the new boy is not going to bully David. He has had enough of that, hasn't he???

The recap was wonderful and the beginning was delightful.

Looking forward to seeing the next.

Diana

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia! I look forward to watching my recording of this season opener today.

Poor Julieta, who did not want any more family than she already has (looks like her own bio fam was not in it last night). She married Robert, who ended up having family, and now más familia! Just goes to show that life is what happens when we make other plans.

Cynthia: Was that Carlos Bracho I just saw ?

“Master”? Really? I had the same reaction as you. The only other time I have seen Susana González was in La Candidata and she was outstanding.

I was at. a Mexican restaurant in Wisconsin last night. I looked up and MMTMF was on the tv but the volume was turned down. Guess I had dinner with the Córcega’s. LOL

The first paragraph of last post was supposed to be addtessed to Diana!

Jarifa - I saw Susana Gonzalez in Amores Verdaderos and also La Sombra del pAsado. She was excellent in both and should do great in this role.

"Guess I had dinner with the Córcega’s. LOL". Indeed Jarifa :)

Jarifa and doris, I loved Susana in Pasion (with Colunga) the first time I saw her. I didn't see La Candidata but Amores Verdaderos is one of my all time favs.

doris, what a beautiful avatar. Did you take that??

Diana

Diana - my hubby took that on a Florida east coast beach when he was down there for a convention in August. He did a solo beach walk every morning, and texted me several beautiful pics.

Cynthia, it's so nice to see you here again! Your recap was just wonderful, a great start to what we can only hope will be a great TN.

It was also nice to see so many of the cast from the first season, I was hoping most or all would be here again. I will miss Marisol and Xavi, maybe they can make a quick appearance later. There are a few others missing as well, but we'll see how things shake out.

That "Master Susana" bit was extremely strange to me. Julieta and Cassandra laughed, but where did this come from, the use of "master" in Mexico???

How quick we forget! It took me a while to place Cassandra. I recognized her, but I couldn't quite place her. After a bit I remembered her from "Enojándome de Ramoon", but I couldn't remember at first who exactly her character was in this TN. I also don't remember how she came to work with Julieta. I'm looking forward to seeing Clarissa! I thought she was so funny and cute in Season 1.

Cynthia, thanks again for starting us off with an excellent recap, and greetings to everybody here on this "patio", it looks like it should be a good party.

:-)

Cynthia, what a joy to read your recaps and see your screenshots once again. You're back and in full force! Have you completely recovered from your Bell's Palsy...I hope so?

The show is off to a good start. I had seen the changes in hair styles on the previews, but I had to smile when I saw Daniela with her lavender hair. Only she would do that! And oh, I had missed Gabriel's beautiful sexy eyes. I do hope he and Daniela find a way to organize themselves or they may end up in very troubled waters.

Blanquita is the cutest; she'll be a heart breaker.

Andy, Cassandra must have mellowed quite a bit in that 9 month time span. She is actually quite likeable now and is doing something productive. Julieta must have hired her as a favor for Gabriel (during the off air time lapse). I'm just wondering where Clarissa is and what she is doing now.

Steve, yes, that was Carlos Bracho that you saw...the former Don Pedro in Enamorandome de Ramon.

Thank you, Cynthia!!

I'm baaack too! I could not tolerate La bella y las bestias and could not find an adequate replacement (not to mention I broke my arm in an aerobics class last Spring and spent a lot of time in physical therapy). I am so glad that this telenovela is back, though Blanca seems to have taken a step back in the tolerance of her chidren's residence, career involvement, lack of daily presence of the grandkids, etc. My grandkids live in another state. I would love to be able to see them every Sunday! Count your blessings, Blanca! I recommend that Julieta set up an actual daycare at Cklass, for the young children of all the employees. As of right now Susana Córcega seems a bit too much of a stereotypical villainess for my taste, but maybe the writers are teasing us. The actress has all the nervous mannerisms she had in La candidata.

Your hub has a great eye doris.

Rgv Chick, I also smiled when I saw Dani's hair. I think the hair style overall is a bit softer and sweeter. And I'd rather lavendar than red, green or blue :)

Andy, thank you for the information. I mistook Cassandra for Robert's sister Linda (do I have the right name?) Now, I realize who it is. So are both of Robert's sisters missing?? I don't see any of Julieta's family members (brothers, sister in law) except her mother in the opening credits, but they flew by and I might have missed them.

SpanProf, Susana looked at Julieta's daughter as though she were an alien. This is going to be fun.

Diana

Thank you Cynthia!!!

I agree with SpanProf that Blanca seems to have taken 10 steps back. She came across as a real shrew for most of the episode.

What I like about Season 1 was that the villains weren't out and out stereotypes. I don't like the Susana Corcega character because she doesn't seem real to me in a TN that I always felt like was real.

I'm wondering if old guy is Imelda's ex and didn't die. Maybe he left her and started a whole new family. If that's the case that is pretty bad. Or maybe he is an ex from before marriage.

Oh, and superb recap, Cynthia! You really captured it!

Diana, Marisol is off ion a tour with Xavi in Spain and Linda is studying in Italy. I’m trying to remember where Julieta’s brother went off to study megatronics and wonder if Linda went off and followed him.

Diana, it was (deliberately?) difficult to see some of the characters in the opening credits, but I think things will sort themselves out, mostly, in the next few episodes.

Blanca is the old cranky Blanca once again, but I was happy to see this. A fair amount of the fun in the first season was Blanca's crankiness, especially with Julieta. Just as long as they don't over do it, they should let Blanca be a bit more mellow and show she really did learn a lot, and largely with Julieta's help! So a little cranky, not too much :-)

Something that had me actually laughing out loud was the "bechito de pescadito". I certainly have heard "bechito" plenty of times, but the "pescadito" was new to me. Still, when I saw it, it made perfect sense, though also perfectly silly... in a really nice way.

andy

Thank heavens for your all seeing eyes Rgv Chick and Andy! I can't say I'll truly miss Linda and I won't miss Julieta's brother, but Marisol is a different story.

Andy, I like "a little cranky, not too much" for Blanca's future behavior. Some habits just die hard. And, I can't imagine living in her shoes all those years, wondering what happened to Robert. But he's been back for a while and Blanca should be counting her blessings and smiling a bit more!!

I have to relearn many of the names. And dang, there are a boatload! :)

Diana

RGV Chick: I saw Susana Gonzalez in "PyP", "La Candidata", etc., what's her character's angle in all of this ?

Diana: You're right about old habits dying hard.

I'm wondering if they had to get rid of some actors to make financial room for new ones. Gonzalez doesn't come cheap! It is hard for me to believe that Marisol would leave Frida behind to go on tour with Xavi. I will suspend my disbelief there!

Thanks so much Cynthia. I missed the first episode and saw only a couple of episodes of the previous series, so I'll be very grateful for the first-rate recaps that you and the others provide. And like Rgv Chick, hope that any remnants of Bell's Palsy are long gone and that you're feeling chipper and frisky.

However I fully intend to faithfully watch my recordings from now on and rejoin this wonderful Patio. Great people, great discussions. Love the internet.

Cynthia, thank you. I always love your recaps. Hope that you are recovered and feeling well.

He!lo, patio. I did not watch season one of this show, so please forgive me if I ask questions.

Susana Gonzalez is my favorite telenovela actress. I have seen her in many shows. My favorite was Pasion with Fernando Colunga as a pirate!!! She is a beauty , and I like her new hairdo. She reminded me of someone, and then, I realized that she resembles Caitronia Balfe, an Irish actress who plays the heroine in Outlander.

My mother, like Blanca, expected my sister and me to bring our families to have dinner at our farm every weekend. We lived in a house we built on the farm, but my sister lives an hour away. I can relate to Blanca!!!

Doris, love the photo. More, please !!!

Looks like a fun patio. Familiar faces from Ramon, too !!!

Julieta's brother went off to Germany.

It was fun to watch this episode, sort of like a family reunion just like here on The Patio. :-)

I did not recognize Cassandra!

Tito has got to be Imelda's dead husband. He freaked out when he saw her, and she looked hard at him when she saw him crossing the street. Should be fun with Crisanta's competing dress shop and possibly la "Master" as possibly a half-sister to Robert!

Whoa! Close call on the AARP cat fight at the dress shop. LOL!!!

Thank you everyone for your comments, it’s so good to be back! I am nearly 100% recovered from my battle with Bell’s Palsy. My smile is full and my mouth is 98% back to normal. My eye is blinking pretty well too. But the best part is that I have my energy back. This virus that caused Bell’s Palsy really took a lot out of me and I hardly had any energy left in the evenings. So I am very glad that I am feeling back to myself again. Now back to our show:

Blanca is back to nagging too much. If she were my mother in law, she would drive me nutty. Being a mother in law myself with two daughters in law and one son in law, I would never be so demanding. I try very hard not to interfere in their lives. But, I would love to see my grandchildren more often. I would take every Sunday. That would be fine and dandy for me. I don’t need every day and I don’t really want to become a babysitter on a regular basis. Just every now and then.

Regarding Linda Córcega, played by Jade Fraser who last night it was said she is away in Italy studying, will actually back at some point in the show. It is the one who plays Marisol, Jessica Coch who will not be back. The writers decided to focus on Daniela and Gabriel for some reason. The other thing I read was that Yahir who played Xavi Galán, did not want to return to the show.

I think it’s going to get really interesting with Susana Gonzalez’s character. Will she be a long lost cousin?

Diana, that’s right, Susana looked at little Blanquita as though she was an alien!

Cynthia, so glad that you are feeling better.

My mother-in-law was very sweet and undemanding . Hub gets his nature from her. My mother was the little, feisty one in our life!

Hub and I get our younger daughter's two little girls who live 5 miles away from us ready for school every school day and get them off the bus and stay with them until their mother gets home about 5.00. That means getting them to practice the piano and flute and helping with homework However, our older daughter lives in Canada , so we only get to see those two little granddaughters (5and 1 ) about 4 or 5 times a year. Thank goodness for skype and phones.

Thanks, Cynthia. Fab job. Glad to hear you're feeling so much better. You are a trooper. I can feel the energy in your recap.
