Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, capítulo 10, Tuesday, September 25, 2018; “Whose Fault is it Anyway?”

Robert sends his father off to his therapy appointment with Axel. But just as soon as Eugenio walks off, Canuto appears down the hall. [The sound effect they used reminds me of the same sound effect when I’m watching “A Haunting” and the spirit comes through.] Anyway, Canuto explains to Robert that he has an appointment with the diabetes specialist. “But first,” says Canuto, “I want to stop by and visit my grandson, Axel.” “I don’t think you want to do that,” says Robert. “Axel is in there right now with a patient, my father and your son, Eugenio Córsega.” But Canuto says, “I want to see my son. Is he okay?” Robert says yes. So Canuto goes off to visit.

Meanwhile, Axel explains some things about the therapy to Eugenio before they get started.

As Canuto walked off, Tavo comes by and tells Robert that he is glad he caught up with him because he thought he left. But Robert says, “I need to go to Axel’s office. My father and grandfather are about to meet.” But Tavo takes him aside and tells him to let these things work out on their own and not to interfere.

Canuto runs into Axel in the hallway with Eugenio. Eugenio looks at Canuto as though he knows him, but just can’t place him. Canuto gazes back at his son, not saying anything.

At the photoshoot location, Susana is thanking everyone for their participation and hard work. She gives kudos to Julieta and has everyone applaud for her. Then, Susana is suddenly hit with abdominal pain and begins to collapse! After Susana, the entire staff starts to have horrific abdominal pain. Julieta calls for Hugo to call a doctor. Then Susana and the rest of the women who ate the cookies make a great stampede to the restroom. Susana shoos them all off so she can go first. It’s obvious they have all been hit with a case of bad diarrhea at the same time.

Crisanta continues her grand opening with a great carnival like style! On the mic, she is offering a “two for the price of one” special. Imelda scowls and complains to Amalia about this.

Robert gets home to soapsuds all over the house, like the washing machine overflowed. He is in a panic, calling for David and calling out for Yolanda, the nanny. Robert finally finds Yolanda and the boys and wants her to explain. He demands to know what happened. She explains the boys wanted to wash something and she was with Blanquita. She didn’t know what was happening until it was too late. She understands, resigns, and leaves.

Susana gets out of the restroom and comes running over to Julieta, blaming her for everyone’s illness because Hugo made cookies that are going to kill everyone.  As she is yelling at Julieta, she is struck with another bad abdominal pain. Julieta says that there must be a logical explanation for all this. Someone comes to do a blood test for Susana, she is in such a panic that one employee holds her down and she takes Casandra’s hand and bites down. [Ouch!]

Julieta asks Hugo to explain why everyone got sick and what was in that recipe. Hugo says it’s the same old recipe, nothing has changed. But then Diana mentions something about their mother…Julieta says, “And what has Mother have to do with all this?”
David and Seb are together and Seb thinks what just transpired is awfully funny. But David tells him what they did was wrong. Robert walks in and wants to know the truth about what happened. Seb gives his version of events and then Robert asks David for the truth. “Don’t lie to me about this, you know lying is wrong.” David just looks nervously at his father, when he is saved by the bell. Blanca is on the phone and is worried about keeping this secret. Anyway, she is making a bunch of tamales [the type with the green covering, not the corn husk] for the next day’s outing.

The boys come downstairs and tell Robert they want to help clean up. He lets them know the nanny quit and he will be going with his grandmother next time.
The boys look back at Robert as though to say, “mission accomplished.”

The grand opening celebration continues at Crisanta’s shop. This lady can dance! On the microphone, she talks about how some are embarrassed to go to the beach because of their large figures. (Amalia is in disguise listening in the crowd.). She then unveils the new swimsuit on a poster. Amalia looks at it and seems to be impressed. Crisanta explains that this new swimsuit will make large women feel more comfortable about themselves. Amalia raised her hand as she wanted one. But Crisanta is no fool, she recognized Amalia in the crowd and offered to give her one to take back over to “la Guera” as a gift? Then Amalia runs off in embarrassment.

Back at the photoshoot location where everyone got sick, Susana is making threats to Julieta and says when she finds out what was in those cookies, Julieta is going to suffer the worst consequences.

At Eugenio’s physical therapy appointment, Axel starts to work on him. Canuto is there and says, “I’ll come back later.” But Axel asks him to wait and tells Eugenio that his grandfather also needs therapy. He asks Eugenio if it is alright if his grandfather stays to see how it is done. “No I don’t mind at all,” says Eugenio. “At least with a witness here, you won’t leave me crooked.” Eugenio, during the session makes mention that his father died when he was a child. Canuto has flashbacks of Eugenio as a little boy.

Later in Axel’s office, Canuto laments that the last time he saw Eugenio he had promised to bring him a little toy car. “How can I explain to my sons that I lacked the courage to come back and see them?” Axel explains to him that their secret is safe with Robert and the ex wife. But Canuto shakes his head and says, “No secret stays hidden for long under the sun, whether in life or before God. It’s all coming back head on.”

The Musi siblings are walking down the street and Clarisa is going on and on about how she likes Axel. Gabe does not looks thrilled and Casandra is getting tired of hearing about it. They all sit down at a restaurant and meet Daniela there. She listens and tells Clarisa and Casandra to stop fighting over the same guy.

Over at Catalina’s place, Hugo, Diana, and Julieta ask her what happened with those cookies. Catalina acts insulted and says, “What would I have done to them?”  Julieta is warning that Susana is launching an investigation until she finds out what was wrong with those cookies. Catalina just gets angrier. She says, “If anyone is to blame is all of you because you came and invaded my kitchen!” Julieta confronts her mother to tell her how serious this all is, like Hugo could lose his business. Catalina finally ‘fesses up saying she did not know how much trouble her “little recipe” contamination could cause. [I am wondering what little cross contamination went into the dough, how it could cause such severe symptoms. I need my tin foil hat to believe this.] She cries and asks Julieta to “save her.” Julieta just looks at her and calls her mother, “Catalina.”

Crisanta is having a little chat with Seb and is asking him about the incident at the Cooper home. She tells him to tell her the truth and that he can always trust and believe in her. He covers his face with a pillow, then goes over to his grandmother’s arms and says, “You will always be my mother.” But Susana is peering through the cracked door and this makes her feel terrible. She closes the door and cries to herself.

Frida is helping Blanca with the tamales when the doorbell rings. It’s Pancho and family bringing greens and vegetables.

The discussion continues at Catalina’s house about the cookies. Julieta advises Hugo to have all his paperwork and documents in order concerning his business. Catalina says, “What if we just tell the truth?” Hugo says, “Maybe we can just say it was an accident and she will forgive us.” But Julieta disagrees, saying that everything will just get worse if they do that. Julieta takes the blame for recommending Hugo as if she did not, then none of this would have happened. Diana says, “Well we had the best of intentions.” But Julieta says, “Sometimes the best of intentions are not sufficient.” Catalina cries some more.

At Susana’s place, she complains to her mother Crisanta about what happened and claims that Julieta wanted to poison her. Crisanta, as she hands her a cup of tea, tells her those are very serious charges that she is saying and she has no proof for. She tells Susana to focus on more positive things, like concentrating more on her son Sebastian. Susana says that Sebastian does not love her, he’d rather be with his father, who isn’t even here with him. She tells Crisanta something like, “Who are you to advise me of anything when you are having quarrels with the woman in the shop next door?” Cristanta gives, then hands back the tea to Susana and says, “I’d better leave before you think that I am against you.”

Back at the Cooper home, Julieta questions David about the laundry incident. She turns to Robert and asks if he believes it. Robert says he does not know, and Julieta remarks that sometimes, accidents happen. Then she tells Robert about the cookie fiasco. Robert then tells her that Yolanda quit. Julieta wants another nanny but Robert reminds her of their agreement. However, Julieta convinces him to give another nanny a try before they ask his mother for help.

At Gabe and Dani’s place Gabe is sleep walking and is dreaming that he is beating up on Axel, but he is really beating up on a big stuffed bear. Dani gets her phone camera and starts recording it, laughing.

The next day, the Córsegas have their weekly Sunday family dinner together. They start talking about the dearly departed “abuelo” and Imelda does not look happy. She wants to leave the past in the past. But Eugenio and his brothers start talking about old times and what they remember. David pipes up and says, “Why don’t we all go to the beach?” Everyone thinks it’s a great idea and so Robert says, “Well then let’s all go!” Julieta just glares at him, it’s obvious she really does not want to go.

At the “other Córsega home” Seb receives a text from David inviting him over to go the beach/river. Susana says she can’t take him because she does not feel well. Crisanta says she has to stay home and take care of his mother. But Canuto says he would like to go. Then Axel chimes in and says it sounds good to him too. So it will be a “guys day out” for them!

So the entire Córsega family is strolling along the river, with Blanquita in the stroller. Julieta complains to Robert she does not like this sort of thing and she has a lot of work to do at home. Then they all run into Seb, Axel, and Canuto. It almost appears to be a standoff with stares coming from Imelda, Canuto and the rest. Julieta turns to Robert and asks if everything is okay. He says it is, he just didn’t know they were coming. Blanca turns to Imelda and says, “Do you feel well?” Imelda claims she is fine. “But I wanted a day with family. I don’t know why we have to have other people here who are strangers!” Robert goes to introduce Julieta to Canuto, but then Imelda gives the look of death and grabs her arm to hold her back. The rest of the family moves on, except for Eugenio, Audifaz, and Tulio. Eugenio introduced his brothers to Canuto. They all seem quite taken and happy to be meeting him, but they do not understand why.

At Catalina’s house Hugo, Diana, and Catalina are still discussing the cookie contamination. Catalina says, “It’s not like these herbs were poisonous.” But Hugo says that they are still responsible for what happened. Diana defends her husband, but Catalina starts mocking Diana with anger. Hugo is worried and tells his mother that he might just lose everything.

Susana Córsega calls her lawyer and says she wants to bring charges against Hugo Aguilar.

Back at the recreation area, the Córsega brothers talk and Canuto reminisces about them when they were little boys. Imelda says there isn’t room for everyone and Blanca agrees. Some of them say that they are all family and they should all be together and be welcoming to the new comers. Imelda is nervously fanning herself.

Axel says he is going to change and asks Canuto to accompany him. They walk along and Axel asks if that was his “ex”. Canuto confirms that Imelda is the “ex”. Axel says that life is giving him the chance to arrange and fix up things right now. Canuto is just loving how he is seeing his sons all together again and wants to get back all that he lost. They meet up with his sons and Eugenio says something about how all of this reminds him of their father because their father used to take them over there. Canuto asks what he remembers. Eugenio tells of a time when his father was trying to teach him to swim and wanted him to be brave.

Blanca is a little exasperated telling Robert about why things have to be so complicated. It’s killing her on the inside to carry this secret watching Eugenio and his brothers live out this nostalgia. They have a heart to heart talk with Blanca mentioning that you can never regain the time that was lost.

Julieta applies sunblock to David and reminds him that he needs to be covered up because of his burned skin. Then she applies some sunblock to Seb, who tells her that his mother does not care about him. Aritotoles comes with Frida and says they are going over to the river. She allows the boys to go only if Ari will be taking care of them. So Ari, Frida, Seb, and David go off.

Blanca calls Julieta over as she is angry because she is sitting at the table alone. She is also angry because her sons are talking to Canuto. But Julieta says they all look like they are getting along. Imelda then says, “I’m older than you. Why do you talk to me that way? I’m merely asking you a favor, and if you don’t want to do it, then thank you.” So Julieta leaves her. Then she calls Eugenio and she asks about him talking to “that man.” However, Eugenio is not going to give in to his mother. He goes back to the guys where he was having a good time.

Catalina calls Julieta and angrily tells her that if her brother loses everything, then it is her fault.

Thank you, Cynthia. The recap was great and I so enjoyed your choice of screen caps.

Lots of good laughs last night from the rumbling grumbling stomachs, the soap suds and Crisanta catching Amalia spying.

Bratty Sebas is turning out to be a bad influence on Dave. No surprise there.

At the river, Imelda couldn’t have fanned herself anymore quickly without taking off.

Should be an interesting time at the river tonight.

Thanks so much Cynthia. Like a graphic novel, words and pictures. I'm always delighted with the huge family gatherings on Sundays and all those wonderful dishes on the table. Can't imagine how anyone, in real life, would have the energy to cook all that after working in the bakery day after day, but it certainly looks delicious.

My mom was orphaned in her teens and my other grandparents lived far away. But we did always have a wonderful family dinner on Sunday. She would put a standing rib roast, with carrots and potatoes and lots of Beau Monde seasoning in the over while we went to church and Sunday School. When we got home, the house was filled with that wonderful aroma. All we had to do then was make a salad, set the table and ah....a feast! Good memories.

Odd that Catalina is blaming Julieta for what she did. Blaming others and keeping secrets seem to be a stable in these telenovelas.

Again, muchas gracias Cynthia!

Excellent Cynthia.

You weave a wonderful story. Fantastic title and screen shots!

Thank you for all of your translations, particularly “No secret stays hidden for long under the sun, whether in life or before God. It’s all coming back head on.”

My favorite part was when Canuto remembered his sons as children. The black and white flashback with a young Eugenio turning and looking at his father with such love was gut wrenching. A reminder of little Robert with his red sweater frantically crying for his mother, first in the marketplace, then in the orphanage. These simple vignettes are so touching.

Worst moment was when Sebas told Crisanta “You will always be my mother” and Susana’s devastated reaction. Of course the child did not realize the depth of wound his words caused but I can’t think of a crueler blow.

“Canuto is just loving how he is seeing his sons all together again and wants to get back all that he lost”. My dear fellow, the past is just that. If your sons allow you back into their lives, you will have the rare opportunity to get to know and love the men before you. You will never be able to love and be with the children you lost.

“Catalina calls Julieta and angrily tells her that if her brother loses everything, then it is her fault”. Sigh. The nicer, more supportive Catalina was nice while she lasted.

Jarifa, Sebas is a little troublemaker. Despite what he has done and although I loathe he hurt his mother, I am grateful Dave has a staunch ally looking out for him. I think Sebas needs his mother's love and her presence even more.

Judy, it's only 7 am but your menu is making me salivate. What treasured Sunday dinner memories you have.

Tavo is a bit like an invisible spirit himself, isn’t he? Casper the friendly ghost, dispensing valuable advice.

Cynthia, thank you so much....

Diana

Cynthia: I went LOL at your title of the recap!

I am also wondering how Blanca is being impacted by all of this.

She would have done anything to get Robert back. Given anything to hold him, love him, reassure him. Yet, knowing where his children were, Canuto never reached out and squandered every opportunity.

So sad.

Diana

No, Canuto “will never be able to love and be wIth the children ‘he’ lost”. Very well said, Diana. Yes, flashbacks showing all three sons as children was an excellent touch.

Good Morning All!!
First i want to congratulate on a great recap and with pictures no less thank you so much. Now that last scene with Imelda calling over Julieta over and being upset because she is being ignored was just silly and what's the point of asking for advice from Julieta then dismissing her rudely. Ugh Imelda you make it hard to root for you.

Excellent recap, Cynthia, and the screenshots were perfect, thank you!

Too bad Susana's good attitude was short-lived and replaced by pure spite. She blamed Crisanta for inheriting her attitude and work ethic, but I don't see it. Crisanta is no where near the bitter workaholic Susana is. And I too think Susana overhearing Sebas telling Cris that she was his mother was pretty disconcerting, but Susana can't really blame him for feeling that way.

I thought for sure Imelda was going to fake some ailment to get the family to leave the park, but instead she took out her frustration and anxiety on Julieta and Eugenio. It's just in her nature.

The flashbacks of the the brothers as children was truly a nice touch, but it's a little late for Canuto to be reminiscing and having any regrets. As some have stated before, staying away was his choice...a choice that will be hard to justify to three grown men who have fond memories of a father they believe is dead.

Oh and I was expecting Blanca to make faces and comments about Julieta's outfit; I guess she has changed a bit after all.

These people think they have problems. I would happily eat stale bread rather than try to overpower and outsmart that trendy Kevlar bag-in-a-bag to extricate a couple of slices of low carb multi grain for an emergency sandwich.

Hoppy Hump Day.

Thanks so much Cynthia!! I'll watch this episode tonight.

I give little Sebs a big pass. Both of his parents have basically abandoned him, choosing their careers over him. If he is a brat it is because he is in desperate need of love and attention from those who are supposed to be giving it to him. His grandma is wonderful but she can't take the place of his mom and dad.

Oh poor Hugo! I'm glad he is back with us this season. He is the hottie of the show for me!!

Cynthia, thank you for a wonderful recap, screenshots and all!

Fun episode, though people were mostly not at their best.

Something that just doesn't ring true to me is Susana's relationship with her kids. She's a smart woman, she sees what is happening, yet she still does not try to spend more time with them. Granted, it's late for that, but Axel is grown and old enough to have gone through medical training, but nowhere along the line did she figure out what was happening? Sebastian is definitely not too old, though she would have to bond with him slowly, carefully increasing the "quality time."

After all, won't this happen anyway, given that this is a telenovela?

Now if Hugo could work out a proper recipe for cookies that were that good and mellowed out people like that without the stomach problems, he could make a fortune.

Oh, wait! Maybe I know a recipe...

:-)

:-)

For me, the real question is why has Susana ended up parenting the boys solo.It looks like the ex “dumped” the kids on her. So, I would like to know more about that story and not just through Sebas’ and Axel’s eyes. Was the ex already in Africa doing his thing solo when they were married? If she is so bad, why did he leave the kids with her and continues to leave Sebas with her. Enquiring minds . . . 🤔

Thanks, Cynthia. Terrific recap and pics.

Julieta applies sunblock to David and reminds him that he needs to be covered up because of his burned skin. Then she applies some sunblock to Seb, who tells her that his mother does not care about him.

Am I the only one wondering if Seb's gonna have an allergic reaction from the sunblock and Susana will wind up blaming Julieta?

Carvivlie, I give Sebas a big pass too. He's a brat, but not bad. He won me over when he stood up to the kid bullying David. Don't blame him for liking grandma best. Susana pays the bills and obviously loves him but lets her anger at his father make her a cold fish.

The scene of the two families meeting by the river was simply beautiful. Blanca looked fantastic in that dress. And Eugenio had such a sweet smile introducing himself and his brothers to Canuto. And the makeup artist thankfully has toned down Imelda's look a bit.

Jarifa, I think you are right. The boys' father has to bear some responsibility for the situation. How long has he been in Africa? I note that there is something like a 20 year gap between Axel and Sebas, did Susana just fly into Africa to get pregnant a second time?

Axel is no saint either. He is a grown man, employed as a doctor but living at home and calling his mother by her first name. Childish.

Oh, well. In the opening credits sequence it looks like Susana and Pancho are getting along really well...

andy

Cynthia, thank you for the recap and screencaps.

Poor Susana. Those tasty cookies gave her a tummy ache.

Judyb, my mother, too, made delicious family dinners every Sunday. My family and I came so did my sister and her hubby and four children even though they lived an hour away. Good memories.

Andy, good point about the 20 year gap between Axel and Sebas. Hmmm, how long has Susanna been divorced anyways? Sound like Sebas was conceived right as the husband headed out the door for good.

Sebas has told Dave that his parents were fighting before they got divorced so he had to be old enough to remember that.

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia.

Great comments already.

We never found out what was in the cookies, did we?

Sebas having an allergic reaction to the sunscreen would be a fitting thing for tonight's episode.

So, no "llamada de la sangre" when Eugenio saw Canuto?

I'll be out of pocket and checking in over the next 2 1/2 weeks, whenever we are on hotel WiFi, to read the recaps. (((Hugs))) and my gratitude to Cynthia and Jarifa!

Have a good trip, doris!

Kirby, you are back....Whoopee.

Thanks for all your comments everyone!

Doris: Have a great trip!
Niecie and Doris: Oh I hope Seb does not have an allergic reaction to the sunscreen.
Kirby: I have no idea what you are talking about, but I'm glad you came by.
JudyB: I agree, I don't know how anyone can prepare such a complicated meal after getting up at the crack of dawn and working in the bakery.

I'm still having trouble reconciling how the herbs "contaminating" the cookie dough made such a strong impact. It's not like arcenic and cyanide got mixed in, unless that is what Catalina was working with. I know the rest of the cookies were turned over to the police, but CSI units do not test for herbs. They will test for known toxins, not herbs.

However, the laxitive "Ex Lax" is made of an herb called Senna. It can be detected in a person's urine. I am not sure if putting cookies through lab testing would detect the senna. I still don't think that as little as got into the dough would have been nearly enough to cause such illness. You would have had to eat the equivelent of a box of Ex Lax for that to happen.

We shall see what transpires tonight.
