I'll try to do a recap of tonight's episode. As usual, it will appear late.
 

Falsa Identidad Capítulo 28 - Parte 1 de 2

José and his thugs come to see the narco Brandon. José tells him there are new rules. Brandon says he's not an employee of the Gaona cartel. "We had an arrangement for buying and selling, that's all." José says he knows that Brandon is in league with the traitor Augusto, and that's why he (José) is here, to see which of them to [bleep], Augusto or Brandon. Brandon seems to be just as much the alpha male as José. He tells José that the people decide if they want to deal with José or with him. "If they decide to deal with me, perhaps it's because they don't have confidence in your or in Don Gavino." The two of them continue to argue and threaten. Finally, José asks about Mamichula--who is she? "I want to meet her. Set up a meeting with me." Brandon says he doesn't set up appointments for her. "If she wants to meet with you, she'll do so when and where she wants." José and his men leave.

Diego decides that he should move out of the house in order to protect Isa, her children, and his mother. Though Isa tells him she has a bad feeling about his leaving, he tells her she has to be strong, and he leaves. Isa has a talk with Amanda, who tells her that she just wants to be happy and to have a normal life. Isa tells her that when they lived with Porfirio, they didn't have a normal life. "Never let a man treat you badly," urges Isa.

Diego goes to stay with Chucho. Chucho asks why they kicked Diego out of the house. Diego explains that that's not at all what happened. The narcos found where they lived and came to see them. He decided to leave in order to protect them. "What if they come here?" asks Chucho. "They'll kill you" (te van a dar cuello), replies Diego. He then assures Chucho that that's not going to happen. [I doubt Chucho feels reassured, given Diego's track record.]

Not long after Diego leaves Isa, there's a loud knock on the door. Isa and Fernanda are afraid that the narcos have returned. "Who's there?" asks Isa. It's Porfirio, who has been watching unseen as Diego left. He wants to see his children. Isa has to leave to go to Babel, but Fernanda assures her that she'll be present, so Isa lets Porfirio come in.

Circe celebrates with Felipa and Ramona. She brings out the champagne to toast to her cartel's success in transporting 48 kilos of cocaine across the border. She reminds Felipa that Gavino always claimed that she (Circe) would never amount to anything because she lacked the [bleep--presumably, cojones] needed for this business. Circe gloats about the success of the women in transporting the cocaine under the noses of the border patrol. The key to the women's success: el morbo, sexual attraction, arousal. "The only thing the border patrol noticed were boobs and buttocks" (las chichis y las nalgas).

Felipa is delighted that Circe is fulfilling her destiny. Ramona thinks this talk of destiny is nonsense. She cautions Circe to be careful--she's not immortal.

Marlene tells Augusto she can't wait to tell her aunt Zoraida that they're getting married. Augusto cautions her not to say anything to Zoraida about the divorce. Divorces take time. "So there's no date for the wedding?" asks Marlene? Somewhat annoyed, Augusto says no te me achicopales, which I think means either don't be depressed or don't make me depressed (I think the latter, but I'm not sure). Just then, Diana comes home, and Marlene tells her that Augusto has proposed to her and they're getting married. Diana looks somewhat the way Chucho did the night before when he threw up. Just then, Augusto gets a phone call and leaves the room.
 

Falsa Identidad - Cap. 28 - 2 de 2

The phone call is from Circe, who tells Augusto she needs to see him right away. This isn't a good time, says Augusto. Circe tells him that José has been to see Brandon and knows about Augusto's involvement. Augusto goes to see her.
Circe says she needs more people in her army. She wants her army to be all women. Augusto burst out laughing. "That's the most idiotic idea I've ever heard," he says. "Women are no good for arms or for war." Circe disagrees. Augusto then tells Ramona that Marlene knows that the Gaona cartel are involved in Babel and has started to ask questions. "I had to propose marriage so she'll forget about this issue," he says. Circe laughs. "Augusto Orozco: Bigamist."

Isa stops by the dressing room at Babel and finds Nuria (I think) taking what she claims are vitamins. Isa expresses some concern, and Nuria gets annoyed. "Are you the health police?" Isa says she and the other dancers are worried about Nuria. Just then, all the other dancers come in, celebrating the news Marlene has just given them about her upcoming marriage. Isa looks grim.

Meanwhile, Porfirio is trying to win over his children. Or rather, his son. His daughter is already on his side. He assures Amanda and Ricas that they're all going to be together, but for this to happen, he needs their help. They need to tell their mother that they need him, they miss him, they want to spend more time with him. As he's saying this, Ricas is busy texting Diego, telling him he misses him and doesn't want to be here with his father. Finally, it's time for Porfirio to leave and for Ricas to go to bed. Porfirio assures the kids he'll be back tomorrow to get them. After he leaves, Amanda asks Ricas to make an effort to be nice to their father. She tells him,"He's not bad, except when he drinks too much."

Jim comes into the ballerinas' dressing room to tell Isa that the Gaona cartel are here and she shouldn't go out there. They might recognize her. But Isa decides to participate in the dance. And, of course, José recognizes her from the photo he has of her and her children. He tells Jim he wants one of the ballerina's to come to his table. Jim first tries to put him off, then says OK, he'll send Gabriela. José says no, he wants Camila. Jim says Camila has an important part in the next dance number, so he can't spare her. José clearly won't take no for an answer. Jim comes into the dressing room again and tells "Camila" that José wants to meet her and wants her to sit at his table.

Brandon calls Circe to tell her that José and company came to see him. José was asking about "Mamichula" and wanted to meet her. Circe tells him to set up a meeting. I'm not sure, but it may be soon after this that Circe thinks back to her accidentally killing Eliseo. She then toasts to Eliseo and says something like "Your death was not in vain." I'm not sure why she says this. Perhaps it's because,Eliseo's death resulted in her breaking completely with Gavino, who was accused of shooting Eliseo and wound up in jail. And in part thanks to that, Circe has now set up her own cartel.

Fernanda and Amanda hear a commotion right outside their house. Diego had returned in response to Ricas text message and had approached Porfirio as he left the house. They argued (of course). When Diego turned his back and started to leave, Porfirio grabbed him. Several people have gathered to watch them fight. Diego is clearly getting the better of the fight, so much so that I'm worried that he may do enough damage to wind up in jail. Fernanda screams, "No, Diego, No!" as the episode ends.

Thanks, Steve. I see that there are two things I had meant to include but somehow failed to do so. One involves Chucho, who talks on the phone with Diana. He wants to talk to her older sister. Why? Because he'd like Diana to be his novia, but he wants to ask her family's permission. Diana is touched and amused. She assures Chucho that he doesn't need anyone's agreement but hers. He disagrees. He wants to do it the right way, the way it's done in his world. As he's having this conversation, Diego comes into the room and overhears him. Diego expresses surprise that Chucho isn't gay.

The other thing I meant to include involves Mateo. He invites a young woman, possibly a waitress at a restaurant he patronizes, to come back to his place for drinks. She's quite enthusiastic about the idea. When they arrive, she asks why he wanted to come back to his place. He puts on a shy, embarrassed face and says they'd have more privacy, and that people might talk about the difference in their ages. She dismisses the notion that the age difference is important--"you look like a strong, healthy man." She informs him that she doesn't drink alcohol. "Neither do I," he says. He goes into the kitchen and returns with two soft drinks, not mentioning that he's added a little pill to one of them.

Ay, yi, yi, Juanita--This one went out of the park with no spectator interference. Well done, amiga. I missed the all-girl gang bit and all of the novia conversation.

Mateo is a smooth operator. The young woman should know better, but she's smitten (I would be, too, if it were really Big Ed). We all know what her fate will be. What could possibly go wrong? Mateo sees more $$$ in his mind with the 50-50 deal he made, so it's back to "work."

Diego has a trigger temper and he's not even drinking. At least he doesn't fight with women. I wonder what he'd do confronted with Circe's all-girl gang.

Amanda is turning into a Profi-mini-me. It's true she misses her old life and friends in Alamos and new kids at a school always have trouble fitting in, especially when they are at her age. She'll go along with Profi and sabotage Isa's plans.

Oooh Boy, Jose and Camila sitting together at the table. Surely she will get flustered by the interrogation he will surely put her through.

I'll still do tonight's recap, but it won't be up until late on Saturday (it's shredding day tomorrow). If anyone else wants to step in, let me know before 9 pm!!

Muchas gracias, Anita, for your gratifying and insightful comments. I loved baseball as a kid. Fast forward umpteen years: I was playing softball for a team at work. I found that not only couldn't I knock it out of the park, I couldn't do anything more than stir up the wind with my swing. Sigh.

Yup, it sure looks as if Mateo is back in business. Shouldn't take him long to make up the extra $30K Porfirio forged. I thought Big Ed did a great job in this scene.

And yes, "trigger temper" is the perfect way to describe Diego's personality. Judging by the pounding he was giving Porfirio, this time he may have gone too far.

I love your recaps. They're well worth waiting for.

Thanks SO much, Juanita. I loved your recap, with all the excellent Spanish included.

I'd add that I wanted to play baseball as well, that is to say: use a bat on respectively Porfirio and José!

For me the sequence was: 1) Porfi lurks outside Isa's building, basically stalking her. 2) He sees some passionate goodbye kisses between Isa and Diego and is obviously furious. And 3) He decides to pay a late evening, unannounced visit to his children as a dominance move. And he has the gall to ask where she's working and why she has such late working hours. And offers to accompany her there. Isa came up with the smooth lie about the 24-hour grocery store.

Isa out and out told him he would never be alone with the children. If not her presence, the "chaperone" would be Fernanda.

Diego actually threatened to kill Porfi. I think he meant that, if he ever beat up on them, he'd do that.

I'd mention that bailarín and bailarina usually mean dancer, any kind up to and including folk dancing and salsa. If referring to ballet, it's bailarin(a) de ballet.

I think Circe is rapidly becoming drunk with power. She's nuts to meet with José. She's actually much better off just being the mysterious mamichula that no one (except Brandon) has ever seen.

The reason Mateo never wants to be seen with these young women was not so obvious when he was with Lourdes. It actually seemed like he was embarrassed to be seeing someone so much younger. But, of course, we now know that they'll disappear and he doesn't want anyone to have seen them in his company.

Porfi is so sneaky, trying to use the kids to get his woman back. Actually, I think lots of men do this. Amanda is getting on my last nerve. Isa gave her an excellent PSA about it NEVER being the battered woman's fault. There have been many studies about the harm to children. The girl can grow up to think this is love and be battered in turn. And the boy can beat his wife or girlfriend when he is grown up.

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for all these valuable comments that add to, clarify, and flesh out the recap. And thanks, too, for the information on the translation of bailarín/bailarina. I wasn't aware that the word referred to so broad an array of dancers.

I fully agree with your description of Circe. She seems to get an adrenalin rush from danger and from power. I suspect that in part it may be the result of Gavino's continually denigrating her ability and preventing her from doing anything meaningful or exciting. I'm pretty sure she's going to wind up in a bad way (for example, dead), but I continue to enjoy her delight in not taking any crap from the men who assume they're superior to her, and in beating them at their own game.

I think the discussion around Chucho's heritage ...being indigenous...was a nice touch. Good that Diana was not concerned about that. I hope he is not harmed by his association with Diego...even if unintentional.

Cersi...is no Cersi Lanister (Game of Thrones) but I appreciate that her character parallels the GOT character. Strong women having to operate in a man's world and prove to their father's that they are worthy and capable. I just wish that Cersi of this show would tone down her makeup. I find it ghoulish at times. Quite over done...and she doesn't need it. And I don't think it would be smart of her to meet with Jose. But she's just cocky enough to do it. I hope she has her army with her if she does.

Falsa Identidad, Friday Oct 19, 2018, Chapter 30 Part 1 of 3

*After Diego beats the heck out of Porfi, Fer finally gets him to quit. Amanda gets an eyeful. Her dad on the sidewalk and Diego still standing. Porfi blames the scuffle on Diego. He says Diego started it. Diego leaves. Fer and Amanda take a wounded Porfi into the apartment to avoid having the police show up. Once inside, Fer tends to Porfi’s banged up face. He says he hopes he’ll be able to walk back to the place he’s staying in. Amanda insists on letting Porfi spend the night there and goes to call Isa. Fer tells Porfi she sees through his little scene and tells him to stop trying to make his kids feel sorry for him. She gives him some sage advice on how to make nice with Isa, too.

When Amanda returns, Porfi says he’s ok and is ready to take his leave. He thanks Fer for tending to his golpes. Amanda is bratty to Fer, calling Diego “un patán.” (a boorish lout)

*Isa danced even after Jim warns her not to. She’s picked out by José, who orders her presence at his table. Jim is sorry he put her in this spot, but Isa assures him he’s looking for someone named Isabel and she is Camila. José introduces himself to Cami as the head of the Gaona Cartel and Owner of Babel. Isa pretends to be impressed. Isa is asked to sit down next to José while he grills her. He asks where she’s from because she looks familiar. She’s from the States, although her parents are Mexican and that’s why she doesn’t speak with an English accent. He tries to woo her into being “with” him using a raise as bait. That doesn’t work and besides, she’s a married woman and won’t talk about her private life.

José tells Isa he’d like to continue getting to know her. She says she’ll think about it. Then she tells Jim she doesn’t think José recognized her. On the Other Hand, José tells his compa he’s sure it’s Diego’s woman and now they know Mateo’s DIL and Diego changed their names.

*Mateo toasts to getting to know his next victim better and to the future. She’s smitten. He pauses to watch her drink the drug-laden Gaiter-Aide. It only takes a few swallows, apparently. Mateo takes the drinks and puts them on the coffee table. He starts to undress her, but she wants to take it slow. Maybe next time. She needs to go home. He offers to drive her home. She stands and begins to swoon. Sadly for her, Mateo’s new acquaintance doesn’t get to go home. She’s trussed up and ready for market. Piochas comes to get her. Mateo reminds him of their 50-50 deal once Gavino is sprung.

*Circe arrives at Brandon’s drug factory with cold hard cash from the sale of the drugs across the border. He announces there are to be no more deals. Circe thinks he’s fallen for Jose’s threats. She says if José really wanted to squash him, he has an army that could have taken him out long ago (or at least a few days ago). Brandon wonders if she’s going to hook up with José. She tells him to wait and see. He calls José to set up the meeting. Circe tells him she needs a favor—to gather all the men he can muster for this meeting.

*José insists to his closest compas that this Mamachula will have to pay him respect. If not, he’ll show her who is in command. A patron in the restaurant disses him. José starts to swagger up to him when Jim tells him to back off. Does he want the police to come and close the place down?
 

Falsa Identidad Part 2 of 3
*Diana is up working late in the kitchen on her laptop, checking into Disgusto’s background. She learns he showed up in the D.F. the same day his step-son was assassinated. Dissy shows up and sends her to bed.

*Diego explains to Deivy and Chucho why he’s all banged up. Chucho had no idea Diego’s mora had an ex. Diego and Chucho turn in for the night, still talking about la vida chueca. Diego is still trying to justify his career path.

*Isa fills in the bailarinas on José the Narco. Nuria is acting odder than before. She insists she’s only taking vitamins. Then she admits they are diet pills, with a little bit of drugs in the them. She feels oh, so good. This turns into a PSA.

*Jim drives Camila home. He suspects Camila isn’t her real name. She reveals she is Isabel Fernandez and was fleeing an abusive relationship. Diego’s brother helped them with false identifications. Jim guesses correctly that it is Diego that’s in danger now. He offers to help her get away from Diego. Isa says she can’t. They’re in love. She wants to protect him from all the Babel stuff, the way he protected her. Jim seems to understand.

*Nuria wakes up next to a stranger and panics. She goes to a pharmacy to get a morning-after pill. The pharmacist also hands her a pamphlet on alcoholism. She’s greatly offended.

*Isabel and Amanda discuss what happened the night before. Amanda gives a version Fer corrects. Ricas said he called Diego because he didn’t want to be with his dad. When Porfi arrives to take the kids to school (uninvited and unannounced) he tells a different story and is also lying about not having told anyone of their whereabouts. He pulls Isa into his clutches telling her that he has rights over his kids. It’s true he withdrew the charges, but he could go to the police anytime time say she kidnapped them, but he acknowledges she’s living a new life and respects her decision. (If we could see behind his back, he surely has his fingers crossed.) Isa relents and lets them be walked to school by their dad.

*Disgusto is telling Marlene his only worry is for her safety with the Gaona cartel men roaming around Babel. On top of that, Gavino may be let out soon. There’s no use going to the police because Gavino’s influence reaches into the police and other branches of government. He leaves her, calling her my future Wife. Her smile quickly fades into concern as soon as his back is turned.
 

Falsa Identidad Part 3 of 3
*Diana appears and shares all she found out about their past in Sonora. She was little but she remembers staying with the Hidalgos when they were orphaned. (Can anyone out there can help me? I could not decipher who Diana was talking about when she said Disgusto was the patron of ….) She remembers meeting Dissy there and Marlene ended up betraying them. Marlene says it wasn’t her fault Disgusto’s marriage was in shambles. Dissy would not have sought her out had he been happy. Diana says Auntie Zoraida won’t bless her union with Dissy. Speaking of Zoraida, back home, she gets a visit from an almost recovered Salas. He calls her Suegra (so she’s his MIL? Married to whom?) and has come to say goodbye. He’s off to the D.F. to continue his job of protecting Diego and Fernanda. (Yay!)

*Fer is off to her first day at work. She’s curious about Isa’s job at the all-night grocery store. She doesn’t really work there, does she? Isa closes the door to explain why she’s keeping it hidden, but also why dancing is important to her. Fer thinks she should tell the kids where she works, but Isa continues to have good excuses.

*Diego and Isa have a kissy face reunion in the patio of his temporary digs. Diego tells Isa an unbelievable story about Porfi’s dad, Mateo working for the Gaona cartel trafficking women for them. Isa is horrified, but then recalls what Marlene told her about the enslaved waitresses and how Lourdes disappeared. She can’t believe she lived with these folks for so many years and had no inkling. They are having a very animated conversation about what to do when Gabriela strolls by and recognizes Camila. She introduces her husband to her as Emiliano. Gabby looks rather skeptical.

*Porfirio stops the kids at the doorway of the school. Ricas goes in, but he holds Amanda back. He wants to know where Isa works, an address, so he can show up and surprise her. Amanda doesn't know, but she does tell him that Diego is evading the police and that's how they got false passports.

*José and his couple of men are waiting for Mamachula to show up. Instead, Disgusto shows up. José gets mad and calls him a traitor. Circe appears. José stares at her. Someone calls her Mamachula. After exchanging some words, José thinks Circe is crazy to try to start a new caca cartel (sh*tty) with Disgusto. What about her inheritance from Gavino? Circe makes it clear she has nothing to do with her father’s business associates any more and she is certainly not José’s mujer. To prove it, she pulls a gun on Joselito and one of her (or Brandon’s) guys shoots an unarmed compa of Joselito's in the thigh. Oh, and by the way, has she told Disgusto her little secret, Joselito taunts. She tells him to shut up. He can’t and tells the assembled ears she shot Eliseo. Disgusto repeats it as a question.

*Mateo is back on duty, in uniform, talking to one of his underlings. Another young woman has disappeared. She worked at a nearby taqueria. Mateo is opening a file and tells him to send some officers around to investigate. Then Mateo gets a visit from the aunt of a missing gringo, one Emiliano Guevarra. After a text that he was fine, there’s been no word, he hasn’t returned home and has not gone in to work.
Tum-de-dum-dum.

There was a conversation between Amanda and Porfirio at the school gate where he asked about her mum and Diego's false identity. Did she tell him that the mayor gave them the identities after the people died?
Will Porfirio run to Mateo with that info?

Terrific recap, Anita. I could practically see every scene again with your excellent descriptions.

Ah, Porfirio, how can we miss you if you won't go away? Of course he started the fight. Diego had turned away after having told him he would kill him if he harmed Isa and the children. Typical cowardly move, he hits him from behind. But his career as a failed singer hasn't prepared him to be in an actual fight, and he loses badly. Of course Amanda missed her father's sneak attack and blamed the whole thing on Diego. I really am starting to dislike this girl. She sabotages her mother at every opportunity.

Where does Disgusto get off telling a college age young woman to go to bed? I actually expected him to follow her up there.

I guess the extra money Mateo will be getting from the cartel for the young women he turns over has changed his method. He doesn't bother having a serious seduction or even sex now, he just turns them over to get the money, presumably to get back some of what Porfi made off with.

Marlene really is a dope. She came up with the classic. Her betrayal of Fernanda isn't such a big deal because it wouldn't have happened if Fernanda had been making him happy.'

I thought it was actually Circe herself who shot the thug in the thigh (unintentional alliteration).

So they showed Porfi short on money earlier on. Typical boneheaded move on his part - he stays in an expensive hotel rather than a cheap one and will be broke soon. And, rather than trying to find a job, he stalks Isa all the time. [I have a vague memory of his meeting someone in D.F. and the possibility of a job. Anyone remember that?]

Oh, Isabel, we know she's trying to make a new life and to be brave going forward. But she should never have danced with Joselito sitting there. It's terrifying to see him playing cat and mouse with her, and I suspect it wasn't the last time. His woman, or the one he thinks should be his, loves Diego. So he's determined to try to bed Isabel as revenge.

I have no idea how Joselito's revelation that Circe killed Eliseo is going to play out. It's probably too soon for her to kill off Disgusto - the erstwhile golden goose - at least until she makes enough money to not need him. Certainly her compinches won't care if she shot some mucky muck in Sonora.

Thanks VERY much, Anita, for this excellent recap. It's got everything, even snark. I especially liked "(If we could see behind his back, he surely has his fingers crossed.)" And yes, Mateo's current victim is all trussed up like poultry ready for market. Yuck! I hope he suffers a painful death. (Actually, I was a little surprised that the drink worked, since, as you say, she didn't drink all that much of it.)

You asked about Augusto being the patrón of... The answer: Aunt Zoraida. I was puzzled at first, but then I realized that yes, Zoraida was an employee of the household and Augusto was her boss (patrón).

I may be wrong, but I think I remember it being Circe who shoots one of José's men in the thigh.

As your concluding "Tum-de-dum-dum" suggests, the suspense is ratcheting up with the arrival of Emiliano Guevara's aunt (plus, of course, the report of the missing chicken)--oops, I mean taqueria employee.

yep, the Diana/Marlene story is coming to us in pieces, apparently they were orphaned and Zoraida took them in while she was working for Fernanda (er Disgusto), interesting that Marlene put inviting Zoraida on the top of her wedding list, but Disgusto nixed it, and interesting that Diana, who is filling in the gaps, accuses her of betraying Zoraida by having an affair with her boss.

(there sure are a lot of twists in this story and they keep on a coming)

when Nuria woke up I think there was a second naked guy in the bed too, and when she went to the drug store and asked if he had something for a hiccup (maybe that was just how the english captions put it) I think I had the same look as the pharmacist.

yep, Porfi is running low on money, couldn't pay the guy for the extra day at the hotel, no wonder he is pushing for some new digs, and with Diego, it looked like to me that as soon as Diego turned to walk away, he hit him with a kidney punch, this can take a guy out,

"Take a significant punch to the kidney and you'll likely piss blood for a week. Doesn't take a doctor to tell you that can't be good."

novelera, Porfi was hitting up his lawyer for job/contacts in Mexico city, is that what you are thinking of? (maybe he could clean offices)

Salas is the man, he lives to be next to Fernanda, I was thinking Zoraida might go with him, interesting that neither Fer nor Disgusto know the other is in town, and I was hoping Diego's illegal activity would center on recovering Fernanda's money.

this is my first experience with "big Ed", as you call him, I'm really enjoying watching him, he is such a despicable character, yet somehow he is cracking me up, the way he gets dragged in with the cartel kids, and he falls for the money every time, and who buries their wife in the bathroom, I wonder where the lawyer is, and once again Diego's "Cleaner Services" were in big demand.

Juanita, when I looked up from taking notes, Jose's sidekick had been hit and bawling on the ground and Circe had a gun at Joselito's chin. I stand corrected, she most likely did the shooting herself.

Deb--Nice to have you back with an entertaining long posting. Thanks for filling in on the Marlene-Disgusto-Diana scenes. I missed completely that Disgusto didn't want Zoraida at the wedding. Obviously, he wouldn't. He doesn't want to be found out by Zorie or Fernanda--although this will probably be pretty soon.

I don't use captions, so I have to go with what I hear and see and put them together. The most insignificant story-line, Nuria and her drug problem, does need an explanation of the scene. When Nuria approached the pharmacist, she was flustered and embarrassed. Her first request was "something for emergencies." He was puzzled. She had to elaborate--you know something for "not using protection." Then he got it. I just condensed it to asking for a morning after pill, which nearly all of us know exists. What made no sense was his handing her a pamphlet and after looking at it was offended saying she's NOT an alcoholic.

Evangeline--To tell the truth, I don't know if Amanda used Eliseo's name or not without rewatching. Right now I have no urge to do so. However, it matters not. If our slightly dull-edged Porfi has any sense at all, he'll put it together that it had to have been someone in the mayor's office, rather than Diego--who didn't belong to a powerful cartel. After all, Porfi and Mateo did find out Isa had been hiding out there but they were too late to get her and Ricas back, finding only Amanda there.

Big Ed has always taken roles where he could play himself, larger than life, sort of like John Wayne and others of more recent vintage. He has a jolly streak and manages to add some slap-shtick humor to all his roles, even ones where he was the lead protagonist in a drama.

I didn't know he had been in US TV shows, like CSI: Miami, NCIS: Los Angeles, Cold Case, and in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Movie. Apparently he appeared for just one or two episodes in the TV Series.

His telenovelas in the 21st Century have been: Te Amare en Silencio, La Verdad Oculta, Destilando Amor, Fuego en la Sangre (2008)**, Corazon Salvaje (the 2009 version), Amores Verdaderos and Amores con Trampa. This is his first in 3 years (wonder what he was up to from 2015-18).

**At the time, CarayCaray decided it the worst telenovela they'd seen yet, but they enjoyed its campiness and oh, my, how the snark flowed in the recaps. It is hysterical to read the recaps and comments now, even without seeing the tn at all.

By 2011, El Talisman--without Big Ed--merited a position very close to FELS as the worst--it was supposed to be a drama but ended up being a comederama. We laughed so hard (virtually, of course).

I'd like to add to the chorus of gratitude for having deb back in our ranks. We really missed you!

Anita, I sat through the whole of Fuego en la Sangre, mostly because of missing Adela Noriega. She was in the very first TN I saw, El Privilegio de Amar and also in my favorite all time: Amor Real. Big Ed was good in the novela but there were so many ridiculous parts, especially the "jungle scenes". In taking a look at it on Wikipedia, I discovered that it won Best Telenovela of the Year. Yikes! Of course those awards are on Univision, and no other channel's offerings ever win.

I recently saw Big Ed in a fairly awful movie I'm embarrassed to admit I watched all the way through: the Punisher. Predictably for Latino actors, he portrayed a narco who was having Travolta launder money for him. And he had a fairly roguish mustache.

So Diego knows Mateo sells women into sex slavery. If Diego knows, then others must know too. And nobody in town does anything about it, really? No mothers of the missing have compared notes?

I kept wondering what Brandon was thinking when his narcobiz faceoff degenerated into a lovers' spat between Circe and Jose. Shrewd of Jose to throw Circe's murdering Eliseo in Disgusto's face though.

Surprised Disgusto showed up and is not remaining a silent partner.

Nett, yep that's Eduardo Yanez in "Held Up." I remember years ago when its star Jamie Foxx was promoting the movie on the Tonight Show and joking about how all the locals in (I think) Texas went gaga when they saw Ed in town filming and paid no attention at all to the rest of the cast.

Thx for the confirmation Niece. Do we know how Diego found out about Mateo's horrible side business. I don't recall seeing that revealed to him. Horrible to think that anyone knows about this dirty business and not try to do anything about it.

Nett--I think most of us are also wondering about Diego knowing about Mateo's side business. We have to take it on faith (that's tn faith, which shakes us up regularly) that he found out through the underground grapevine.

novelera--No need to apologize. I think the ID crowd is the only one commenting currently on Telemundo offerings and sometimes the conversations take us on side roads. We aren't taking up any one else's time. Either that or I will have to apologize, too, for amplifying deb's Big Ed comment in detail.

I racked my brain and, I think, came up with it. It was Deivid who told Diego about Mateo's selling young women. If I'm not mistaken, Deivid was with Piochas and maybe one other guy when Lourdes was "handed off". Again, I vaguely remember Deivid being disgusted with the whole thing but having to try to not show it.
