Amar a Muerte, 11/12/18, Episode 10: Leonchi Has a Very Bad Start to the Day

Some scenes have been combined to take up less space.

*Leonchi is still in his Secret Man Cave Home Monitoring System Headquarters forcing himself to watch as his loving widow and substitute son nearly get it on in the study. It’s obvious to him this is not a first flirtation. Johny has his hands all over Luciho’s body and she’s letting him explore. Hands to head, Leonchi screams in disbelief and anger. Frau Security comes running, but nothing seems to be disturbing the household’s back hallway. (And he’s head of security and doesn’t know about the Operation Watch Centre in the basement?) Meanwhile, the 4-handed game in the study is over and the two leave for family breakfast together time.

*It seems Guille is also having a bad start to the day. He tries to find out about the shooting he “witnessed” last night. Nothing in the media. He skips the family breakfast to go check out the liquor store. He calls Tonio the Shooter (whom I though was just a bar pickup, but he’s got his number), who is cool with what went down—it’s food on the table for him. Guille sees the store is closed and assumes the worst.

*Eva and Val are already at the breakfast table. The two are yucking it up about something or other when Luciho and Johny appear. Luciho wondered if Eva hadn’t planned to ransack her room again before or after breakfast. To which Eva retorts that it is her father’s room and can come and go whenever she pleases. As the convo escalates, Johny calls for a peace treaty, or at least a truce. Everyone should get along during these rough times. Then he takes it further. He explains that he has plans for the company and they need to present an united front. Eva objects saying he’s not family. Luciho sticks up for him. He gets Val to agree and then states that he’s already talked to Guille and he agrees. Eva is the hold-out. She’s not about to let Johny-Come-Lately walk away with her father’s fortune. Breakfast breaks up fast.

*Leonchi rips off his tie and starts to unbutton his shirt when Frau Security catches up with him. He tells him to redress and be on call to take the Señora to the Carvajal offices. For Leonchi, it’s going to be like getting trapped in a small space with a black widow….oh, she is one. Once inside, Leonchi/Hack-o-bo hunches over the kitchen sink shaken and trying to decide what to do when Silvina comes in and immediately sees him in distress. As she puts a hand on his shoulder, he turns around and is turned into the real León Carvajal, in the flesh for an instant. Then he’s Hack-o-bo again. Silvina is quite rattled.

*Eva runs into Leonchi waiting for Luci by the car. They introduce each other. She laughs when he says he’s heard nice things about her. She states she’s not very popular with people who don’t like to be told the truth. She “invites” him to drive her to the office, but he’s waiting for the other Señora. She’s off, then. Leonchi’s hot blood rises again to near boiling when he sees Johny and Luciho come out together, oh so nonchalantly. His cold demeanor is quickly noticed by Luci on the drive to the office. Luci makes Hack-o-bo stop and pick up a magazine that sports a photo of her on the cover (there are lots of copies to choose from). It’s not a very flattering article, it seems. Before she gets back in the car, though, she wants to clear the air between them. He gets into her personal space. She’s leaning on the car and can’t back away. He backs up a bit and says she won’t like what he has to say because people like her don’t like being told truths. Leonchi realizes he’s stepped over a line and excuses himself—it’s due to a family problem.

*Alicia and Amparo remark on the changes in Beltino.

*Renata’s BFF and office mate teases her about Guille. When he arrives he is totally distracted. He speaks to her sharply and dismisses her. Later he changes his attitude and grabs her to accompany him.

*Silvina tells her gardener husband (Adrian? Antibel?) about seeing León Carvajal for an instant in the kitchen when Hack-o-bo turned around. She swears she wasn’t hallucinating. He believes her.

*In San Antonio, TX, the assassinated judge's son is talking to an official named Peña about his convo with Santos, the Coyote. Sonny Boy tells him that El Chino has escaped to Mexico. Peña thinks the missing fingers is a sign that the bad guys know how to get their own form of justice. He tells Sonny Boy it’s over and what would Sonny Boy want them to do anyway? The governor already rebuked him for contacting Interpol. In effect, El Chino has already “served” his sentence. Sonny Boy thinks the governor is in league with the cartels. Peña warns him to say that out loud.

*Lupita and Juli are strolling along the street, somewhere in Mexico City. Lupe will find a job and Juli needs to find a school and go back to her studies. They pass Val and her boyfriend crossing the street. Juli notices how nicely and expensively dressed Val is, not noticing that each are wearing jeans and a top. Juli just lacks a jacket. Juli stays behind while Lupe goes to apply for a waitress job. Juli listens and watches Val and her boyfriend break up over her PityMe attitude. Lupe gets sexually assaulted by the owner/manager of the place who wanted to see her from the rear—gotta look good for the customers. Juli saves her. They’re even now, but still without a job to pay the OgreMatron at the pension.

*In Beltino’s morning class, “Mijita” is late (probably on purpose so she can make a grand entrance). “Boring Girl” drones on about her research on reincarnation and life after death. “Mijita” ends the class by offering a real expert – a shaman who talks to the dead. Beltino tells her to bring him on, er, in. Meanwhile, Alicia tries to explain to Beltino’s doctor that although he has recovered and seems to be a functioning human being again, she believes her husband is a different person, living in Beltrán’s body. She explains all the things that make him almost the opposite of what he was before, including paying attention to his son and is really hot in bed. The doc promises to take it up with his colleagues and get back to her.

*Susana checks in with Johny on the governors’ campaign coverage. He wants to change the title before even reading it (making it sound as though they are endorsing the one guy who is actually corrupt). She wants to steer clear of showing any bias. He decides to read it. After she leaves, he picks up a post-it (but I can’t read it). He reflects on it for a moment and sets it aside.

*Guille has made Renata drive him to the liquor store. Now it’s open. He tells her to go inside and ask about the manager. She’s arguing that Guille needs to tell her what this is all about first, but he remains silent. Renata learns there was a robbery and a shooting last night. Mr. Castillo was wounded seriously and is in the hospital. Guille still won’t tell Renata anything. When they arrive in TOHIMC, they get his room number and head for it.

*Eva talks shop with Mateo on the way to her office. It’s filled with roses and a card signed “E.” Fortunately, Eva is quick witted and covers this major gaff by explaining that it’s thanks for closing that fabulous deal the night before. And “E” stand for España, dodo. Later, Eva scolds El Alacran that he came near to ruining her marriage with the flowers. She raises her voice and tells *him* never to do something like that again. He tells *her* she doesn’t know who she’s involved with. He’s certainly not one to let a woman tell him what to do.

*El Alacran reassures his boss that things are going well with the hunt for El Chino and he’s taking care of bidness for him Down Mexico Way.

*Luci and Leonchi finally get to the office. She’s still grumbling about the article. She muses that if León were alive, he’d put a stop to all this. Leonchi suggests (sarcastically, but she doesn’t pick up on it), that she consult with Johny as he, after all, was León’s trusted right-hand man (or is it left, or both). Luci says she liked Leonchi better when he wasn’t saying anything.

*Sonny Boy tells his wife, Mariela, he’s going to Mexico to get justice for his father, the judge. There’s no one else to do it. She begs him not to; he might just get himself killed. Sorry, it’s a done deal. The tickets are already bought. Their son looks on from the other room.

*Leonchi is sitting at a table in the atrium with a bottle, in wait for Luci’s next move. Camilo joins him. They talk about the Man Cave. Cam definitely remembers it and describes it in detail (although he forgot about the world globe in the foreground). Leonchi tells Cam what he saw and nearly breaks down retelling it. Cam says not to read too much into it, it might be something that started recently. Leonchi reminds him he’s only been dead a few days.

*Luciho marches into Johny’s office to complain about the article. She’s righteously offended. She thought marrying a rich and powerful man would put an end to the whisperings. Johny tells her to get used to it. That’s life at the top. She’s a strong woman. What the others say shouldn’t stand in the way of running this business empire together, they way they had always dreamed of doing.

*Beltino gets “Mijita” to show him where the shaman lives before he comes to class. She agrees to take him there the next morning.

(P.S. My DVR cut off suddenly, so I’m not sure if there was anything else. If so, please add it in the comments. Also, does any one know Mijita's and Sonny Boy's names?)

Thanks, Anita! Great recap so far...and

"the 4-handed game in the study" good one!

and "it’s going to be like getting trapped in a small space with a black widow….oh, she is one." I echo Anon 12:11, poor Leonchi having to maintain his composure knowing that he has already been bitten by the black widow.

I'm starting to like Silvina; she is much more of a "psychic" than Barbara the Fake.

With that look that Juli gave to Val, it didn't seem like she was just admiring the clothes.

I'll comment more later...

Hi Anita, Thanks for getting this up. My DVR cut off before the end of the episode also. I thought there was a confrontation between Leonchi and Lucia, but maybe not.

This seems to be a powerful exposé of the naiveté of rich folks as opposed to the poor people scrabbling for a living. Eva's trysts with Emiliano are fun fun fun until she makes him angry with her complaints about the roses. Then the reality of messing with narcos steps in. Same with Guille and his attempts to live "real life". And Valentina is self-medicating with alcohol rather than working through the grief of losing her father. Julie, who also lost her father, doesn't have that option and has to run, hide, and help her mom fight off sexual predators--while also scrounging to find resources to pay for rent and food. At this point, all three offspring are looking like a waste of oxygen. And Lucia is betraying her husband with his right hand man. What a devastating discovery for Leonchi and his rosy picture of wife and kids and best "like-a-son" helper.

I'm thinking Santa Muerte has brought these men back to life because they have serious unfinished business to attend to before they can truly rest in peace.

Thanks Anita. These late-night recaps are tough, even for a night owl like you. Certainly appreciate it.

Anita, "Sonny Boy" is Fabian; and "Mijita" is Rosa (Rosita) Martinez.

I came home expecting to see a few more comments, but ni modo, now I have two more names of minor characters. Rgv Chick--How about the boyfriend Val just broke up with? We've been led to believe something is going to happen between Val and Juli, so, yes, we can read something into Juli's look and it wasn't just at her fancy clothes.

JudyB--That's some powerful insight. I'm getting onto your train of thought.

Can't wait to lay eyes on that Leonchi tonight. He's definitely making my tapete move.

LOL Anita, my tapete has been moving since I saw Michel in "Falco," but I must admit it's been moving quite a bit more since I saw him in a suit...and oh those baby blues...gotta love 'em.

JudyB, I'm always amazing at your insight..always makes a lot of sense and brings light to the writer's message(s)

Anita, Val's boyfriend's name is Lucho.

I'm always amazing?? NO I'm not that vain! I'm always amazED... :-)

There was one more scene at the very end--

Camilo tells Leonchi that he needs to go back to his job; he can't lose control. After Leonchi agrees, Camilo asks him what he plans to do with this new information. Leonchi replies that this changes the whole direction of his plan. Life has given him a second chance to understand what was happening within his home. He vows that those who are guilty, will pay for what they have done.

Thank you Anita, good recap.

So they didn't do the deed. That's a relief. But he can't blow up like he wants to. But he will, probly after Christmas or new years.

"Leonchi realized he's stepped over the Line,so he excuses himself--it's due to a family problem". Man is it ever, and she *is* the half of it.

That johnyboo is into the crooked politians game too, well it is popular these days so why not put it into the script.
I'm not so formilar with these other
Characters, I'm really more interested
In leonchi & Luciho. That's a good name y'all came up with for her. I had no idea she would be the evil wife who plotted With the evil brotherly loving business partner to off her naive hubby.
I've seen her in evil bitch parts and
She is really good At them but in this
Shes abit remorseful. Unless that was a Fake widowact at the cemetery with
Almost dead hubby who is not so naive
Anymore. this is good Anita, thanks.
