Amar a Muerte, 11/17/18, Episode 13: Turning Those Proverbial Tables Begins
Parte 1~
So, Jacobo/León is amazed to see Sra. Lucia knock-knock-knockin' at Camilo's front door. After pointing out he should let her through the front door already, she begins the...ahem...pretext is that as her dear departed's "best friend was Camilo--" "--Sorry, I thought Sr. Carvajál's best friend was Sr. Johny"-- "--he should know my reasons for firing you." Cam suggests in front of the two of them that Jake was rather oafish and crude for which he's sorry (not).....Well she was there to have Cam relay the message but since he's there in person, "--I'll tell him myself: you're to be at my house tomorrow morning. Apart from your rude actions, it's difficult to find good workers and someone that I can trust. Be there first thing in the morning." Jake thanks her for a second chance. Cam sees her out.
In Téjas, Beltran and Fortune Telling Broad are downing a couple of Texican brewskis. She wants to know why people are after him and trying to kill him. "--Later. --Damn, you soak beer up like a sponge." Belchin' throws down cash to cover their tab and answers a call from the wife that the boy is still in the hospital. He'll be right there he says. --He explains his job now in this life and she giggles thinking that's the last thing she'd think he could/would do! Hey, he's won the lotto! And his career in the life before this? Belchin' tells her to throw the tarot cards down. They'll tell her. He leaves and she races after to join him.
Cam walks back into the living room and tells Jacón, aka León "--this woman has fallen in love with you. You've gotten her attention (and how --Johny being a big, bearish bore); Look, León Carvajal was a powerful man who seduced her, who respected her, who loved her, cared for her and gave her position in his life. Now with this new wrapper! "--Naw. It's not like that." "--Think, man! What do you mean it's not like that! It cost her a great deal of embarrassment to hire you back like this. Why else do you think she came!" (Viewerville's assuming León's character and characteristics shine through and are what have gotten her attention, not to mention the...ahem...new package--pun very much intended.) "--Ok. Perhaps. Yes. Fine. She likes the 35 yr. old façade. It's a younger and better looking--good looking 35 yr. old package. So she cheated on me with Johny and no doubt she'll probably cheat on Johny with this new Sr....Jacobo. Cam reminds him it's called (one of this corner of Viewerville's favorite references) "poetic justice." "--INDEED! And if it's true that she's enamored of this Jacobo, we'll use her attraction to Jacobo Reyes to plot out our revenge!"
Johny, meanwhile, has called the cops in to look at the broken window. He thinks back to the note somebody left him in the bar.
At Renata's apartment, Ren's watching the news report about the liquor store robbery Guillermo was involved in. She texts Guille about it. Blabby The Roommate is yammering on about being a beautiful Brazileña when Teo calls Ren about about picking her up for that date to the theater. WTF? He's bought the tickets and he's ready to get her. She says she never agreed to anything with him. She fakes granny's sick and all so no go, but my roommate is free and would love it! Click. She then gets a call from Guille at the same time. He's worried they'll recognize him in the video. "--No way. You were wearing masks." They agree to meet before work . He'll pick her up. and he should have a plan then....
At a pool hall in the DF the barmaid makes a funny about the boys renouncing their names for their strange nicknames.
At Eva's, dinner is too noisy for the female cur in heat. He accommodates. She tells Hubby that Gaston shouldn't be reporting on such dangerous people. He's lucky he wasn't the one killed. Hub answers he's only doing his job. She reminds him Gaston was witness to a murder of the guy informing. It could have been Hubby. She definitely doesn't want this kind of trouble in her organization. Hubs, aka Mateo, gets mad and asks her to listen to herself. What kind of newspaper is she running now? She sounds like she's protecting the criminals. What's more, has she forgotten what journalism is all about?" She immediately shoots back at him, "--Have you forgotten the country you live in?"
Guille can't stand it any longer and calls up his "friend" and asks if the guy's seen the news yet? The psychopath is enjoying a double date deluxe and tells Guille it's nothing different from the rest of the daily news in the DF. "--Don't worry and don't be a stupid shit. That's what the masks were for." "How can you it not feel bothered that a man is lying near death in the hospital?" "--Hell, it was his fault for taking out his rod [fusca: piece, gun]." "--Listen, you! I'm not ruining my life for somebody like you! You aren't worth shit [valer madres: scum, shit, muck, debris]!"
Johny has called Lucia, meanwhile, to tells her about the rock in the window and the note at the bar earlier. He believes it must be the same person, trying to scare him somehow. She needs to be alert like he will be. He's not sure what he'll do about it yet.
After dinner, Eva and Mateo sit out on the steps and look out toward the city lights (I imagine). She's lonely for her daddy and regrets always fighting with him. Matt reminds her it was sport for her--her only sport. He suggests a remedy for her loneliness--kids. She guffaws. Nope. Not gonna happen. She told him that before; kids are not in her life trajectory. He'll have to respect that. (For now Viewerville guesses he does since he doesn't fight about it. He's rather gawdawful wimpy anyway for a husband. Any wonder she's got a narco for a lover now, class?)
Fabian, like a dog homing in on his missing bone, hires a private investigator to find El Chino. He hands over the file and says police cannot be trusted and anyway, they referred him to the P.I. The man's a hired assassin. This P.I. loves the challenge. (Now, am I wrong or when a man survives his hanging, i.e., his sentence is served, and he survives, in the U.S. the few odd times this might have happened, there is no second time around. The criminal's penalty cannot be served a second time, What is Viewerville missing here?) Seems our Ferreting Fabian is close to calling the kettle black at this point!
Cam and Jake continue chatting. Cam mentions his seeing another person with the same black butterfly mark on her neck. A girl and she seemed frightened when he called attention to her. He needs to talk to her and Jake takes objections to becoming a rat in a lab to Cam.
We note that, meanwhile, this girl is chatting with her daddy who tells her he noticed a man digging in a grave earlier that day--it seemed that the man lying in that grave was the same man digging in it now. "--Do ya think?" This just happens to be the girl with the butterfly tattoo on her neck, the girl about whom Cam was referring.
Morning comes.
end parte 1~
==============================================
parte 2~
Jake's not got the kind of hangover this morning he thought he might from all the liquor he downed during his pity party of one. While he's finishing dressing, Cam comes in and notes how the mark on his neck is bleeding badly.
For his part, Belchin' has stayed by "his" son's bedside all night. Now his wife notices his mark is bleeding also. She wants it looked at but Bechin' says absolutely not. It's just a scratch from hurrying earlier.
Alacran and the posse talk about the reporter's piece in Eva's paper. Alacran says let's go show that reporter whose feet should be kissed! They head off.
Juliana and Lupita's ex from high school days chat. Lupi's asleep right now. Well, he came over to invite the two of them to go for a walk or something. "--Ever seen Chapultepec?" Jules isn't so appreciative considering the way Panchito threw them off the property the other day, not to mention the pack of kids and that witch who came to the door. Panch explains Lupi's one of the few friends he has. (Which begs the question, kiddies: is it any wonder, considering the aforementioned brood-bearer he got married to?) He just wants to help them out if he can. Jules offers him a cup a coffee. "--So what's your daddy do for a living?" "--He's a businessman. An assassin. He earns lots of money killing people." Panch is stone-cold to the bone impactado at this nonchalant declaration. Well, we note that if Panch had any untoward intentions regarding Lupi, they ain't there now.
At the Carvajal manse, Valentina is heading out. At the base of the gigantasaural marble staircase is her boyfriend. She's still pissed, despite the attempt at an apology with a bouquet of roses for her. "--Not all is fixed with a simple bouquet of roses." "--Won't you forgive me?" She snubs him and heads out the door. "--You shouldn't have to ask that question." She bitches that he should question what a sad person really needs. On the front veranda. Lucia appears to tell Val that she's just finished reading a book that her dad had read after Val had lent it to him. Yes, he read it too, just like all the books Val had given him to read. "--I just want you to know that I am here for you." Val relaxes a bit.
In the kitchen, Silvina is surprised to see Jake waltz in. "--Didn't they run you off?" "--Just a bad misunderstanding. All is straightened out now." She tells him to be more careful with his job and hugs him. She draws back. She tells him he smells just like Don León, but then says don't pay any attention to me cuz if I told you all the things that have happened to me around here you'd put me in a lunatic asylum! Just then Sra. Lucia comes in. She reminds him to behave from now on. He says he will. He chuckles and she thinks he's laughing at her behind her back - having a big laugh at her expense [botar de reir?]. He says no, it's just a harmless sense of humor is all. She's thanked for the opportunity again to mend his ways and get his job back. They head out.
At the same time, Guille and Ren are headed to the hospital. She's instructed to keep out of sight but to make sure that this money in the envelope he's giving her is there for whatever expenses in the way of an operation, etcetera, etcetera.
At Johny's, our stout detective tells Johny essentially he's not that important at Carvajal, Inc. to curry such disfavor as a nasty note or a rock through a window. If they wanted to kill you they would have and that would be that. No. Look closer to home. Maybe somebody is angry and he wants to remind you of it.
In Tejas, Belchin and the bruja, Barbara, pick up the pickup, aka, Rosita. Rosie's not to keen on there being another broad in the car. Barb, the aforementioned broad, is introduced as Belch's colleague. Rosie's a bit snide as she advises she doesn't like people showing up without previous notice. "-- The shaman I don't think will let her go in, anyway." Barb calls and raises her one; she sneers back at the "the child brat" to stop kvetching and leave the witchery to them, aka, the adults in the know. Barb then hisses at Belchin' that she's only a kid! "--Doesn't matter, just deal." The car and Barb groan together as she pulls away from the curb. "--Ready all?"
Eva, while driving to work. is reading the article about Al and the gang's snitch; it's aptly entitled "They Killed Me for Being a Snitch." She is suddenly hijacked at gunpoint. The posse kidnaps her after drugging her unconscious and takes her to Alacráns high-end hide-away.
At the same time, Gaston and wife are arguing while the kids are being dropped off at their grade school. Wife is angry about hubby's cavalier, not to mention reckless, attitude over publishing this article. Oh, he's certain he'll be famous and become rich once he writes his book about this narco-dealing gang. Besides, he's got his body-guard. He nods over to some 60-ish guy riding a pint-sized motor scooter in a suit (his disguise?). She scoffs ( right along with Viewerville) and warns him again this is stupid if not totally crazy. He's stubborn and the wife's gotta get to work. They kiss goodbye.
Eva awakes to roses. Al says if she behaves she'll be surrounded by roses all her lifelong. Otherwise, she now knows she can disappear just like that. He snaps his fingers. She's angry. She explains the story was already out before she knew about it and could stop it and thus protect him and his guys. Too bad. Learn your lesson the hard way. Strip. Clothes off! She refuses. They argue over her being a woman whose got to pay for her mistake. She corrects him that she's a lady not a mere woman! They go at it like minks.
Across town at the major competition who published that nasty article about Sra. Lucia, Jake takes note and then helps Lucia out of the car. They enter the building and Lucia orders Jake to wait for her in the lobby. She enters the publisher's office after not taking no for an answer and telling those in reception to tell him she's there expecting to speak to him.
Of course, the wife of the shot liquor store attendant cannot afford the private hospital for hubby's operation which is needed ASAP and of course she needs to use a private hospital because the public one won't have a free operating room for another two weeks. (Can you spell Canada and England, class?) Ok. So when the wife and the doctor enter his room there's an envelope full of money with a note that says hopefully the money will be of some use.
Ren assures Guille that nobody saw her, but that they nearly caught her. He hugs her out of relief and gratitude.
Lucia shows the competition's owner the article he published about her a day or two before. He bemoans the fact that he cannot control his journalists. She then shows him article she has had printed up about his own private life, complete with pictures of his most revealing and revealed bedtime antics. He yells the expected response, "--It's a lie!" she continues in a low, breathy near whisper. "--Yes, but at times a firm hand is necessary, right?" He holds his tongue and listens to what she has to say. "--You'll publish another front page story tomorrow about me, but this time with an apology for the first one, stating that you've fired the reporter who wrote it, because that is exactly what you will do. Or, my reporters' article will be my tomorrow's headliner." He gets the message toot sweet. Ka-ching!
end parte 2~~
Labels: Muerte
I'm liking Camilo more and more with each episode. He saw right through Luciho and knoooows she's got the hots for Jacobo (though he used the "she is in love with you" phrase...he was just being a gentleman).
I'll comment later when the recap is up...
Have a wonderful week-end, Patio!
Good luck to you team.
Oh Wait ! One of them is my Squeeze ! Whew ! I know how to relieve some of this tension. Gobble Gobble.
Renata is an attractive little thing, but other than that, the whole story can just go away. If Guilly were even the least bit attractive, or had any one singular quality which made her attraction to him believable it would almost make sense. He does not. I don’t even like him in the Trivago commercials. :-)
We have all lamented the recent absence of the good priest or other figure of stability and wisdom in recent TNs. I think Camilo is about as close as it gets these days. What a great guy.
I wonder about the festering moth tattoos, both on LeonChi and Beltrino. Obviously that is significant to the story, and I wonder if it is an omen or what. It makes me believe that maybe there are other problems soon to surface in both their situations, as if some of the side effects are about to be revealed. Like if maybe some of the SanMue magic is maybe sort of temporary or something. Of course it makes you want to know more about the dark haired girl we have seen a couple of times now with the same tattoo.
Speaking of: Is the shotgun carrying graveyard guard her Dad or something? Coinky Dinky at it’s TN best.
NiNa you were wondering what LuciHo was supposed to be doing to help Johny take over Carvajal. I haven’t seen that plot really laid out. This whole situation sort of (according to her) caught her off guard and she was not in on the master plan Johny had, to actually KILL Leon. So you are right, in that she is walking around in this grey funk trying to figure out how to deal with all this and survive the media and hateful Eva. I notice she is especially nice to Valentina, probably in an attempt to recruit her as an ally on her side.
We have not seen Lady Death in a few days. I wonder if she maybe is somewhere tormenting some non Gringxicans and is off the continent. I miss her.
Enjoyed your "package" pun and this especially:
Panch is stone-cold to the bone impactado at this nonchalant declaration. Well, we note that if Panch had any untoward intentions regarding Lupi, they ain't there now.
I think Pancho was definitely planning that sort of reunion and I enjoyed Juli putting a stop to it very effectively. She's protected her mother as much as her mother has protected her.
Now I'm wondering how the writers will engineer a chance meeting with Leonchi. That should be interesting. As well as Beltran.
And must say I also enjoy watching Johny squirm and look nervous about being found out. This guy is easy to hate. All his roles have been scumbags and he just looks like a bully. Hopefully he's a real sweetheart in real life.
Thanks Ms. Jardinera. Always a pleasure.
Thank you Jardinera, wow, a lot of work, but nicely done.
Kirby, I totally agree that Guill is a bore and a waste of screen time. And him being involved in a crime is so random- give the boring guy a serious sl to keep people intérested- not working for me.
Eva, on the other hand, is great to watch. I was saying the other day that she won't like it when Alacran gets too close to her own affairs. Was having her kidnapped in broad daylight such a turn on or was she trying to make the best out of a nasty situation ?
That hubby of hers is too bland for her but how is it that the best alternative is a narco? Must be the mexican syndrome.
Camilo is great, I love the actor. Hopefully he manages to keep Leonchi reasonable when things get difficult.
Judy, I'm wondering who will el Chino's family meet first: my guess is Beltran since the girls won't know who he is, but he will be very aware of the connection.
Matteo makes my skin crawl as much as Al does only for different reasons. I hope he meets someone else more on his level to divorce selfish Eva for, especially if she wants to have kids. Al's a buffoon, but a dangerous one.
As for Jake, I say somehow León's personality, character and assured, worldly bearing is seeping through and that's what Cam meant when saying it's León only in a younger, more attractive outer wrapper that's got Lucia noticing him and falling in love with Jacobo. I felt that wasn't made very clear during their conversation.
Johny's veneer is beginning to crack ever so slowly. Lucia appreciates the stronger, self-assured and powerful male. It will be easy for her to switch her antennae towards Jacón. I am also very much looking forward to Jules running up to "Daddy" one of these days when Val invites her to her home.
I hadn't even thought of the Val/Juls/Leon/Chi body angle. Clever point Jardinera because in TNlandia one of the worlds largest cities is still a small town.
We could be headed for an old fashioned Mexican goat rodeo when LeonChi is by then 'with' Lucia, and Juli tells Mom Loopi about him and the two of them show up for a hoppy reunion. Although it looks from what we have seen that Chino may not Juli's Dad, and according to Juli, Chino was not much of a hubby to Loopi either..
Kirby, I agree that Eva is totally messed up, but I don't understand what she sees in Alacran...especially now that he has made it clear that he will be off with her head and have no qualms about it if she does something not to his liking. the girl must like living at the edge of danger. She insisted that she wouldn't risk her people's lives, yet there she is as if daring death.
Regarding the black moths, I remember my mother always dreading seeing a black moth inside the house because it meant death was nearby...someone was at risk of dying. Taking that into consideration, it only makes sense that the black moth tattoos are an indication that death is nearby...which is actually true is since the people who have them are/should be dead.
JudyB, "the whole transmigration deal is complicated and murky" Amen to that! We've seen that those who were unlucky enough to be a party to this phenomenon seem to have the host try to seep into the mind of the soul; we've seen scratching and now bleeding; is this the body's way of trying to reject the soul?
Adriana, I think we all agree that Mateo is quite bland. I'm wondering if the marriage was one to appease Leon.
Jardinera, ITA that Leon's personality is seeping through and that was what initially attracted Luciho. Jacobo has the sense of humor and the resolve to protect her just as Leon did. Leonchi, however, thinks it's that "cuerpazo" (great body) that she is attracted to and seemed to totally ignore Cam's theory that she was attracted to the personality. AND...
"I am also very much looking forward to Jules running up to "Daddy" one of these days when Val invites her to her home." I hadn't thought that far ahead, but that makes perfect sense.
To think aloud:
Now the physical Leon body is hopeofully still planted at the leaves and shredded flower site.
The spirit from that planted body is now installed in the Chino body. OK so far, A Win-Win all around. (right RGV?)
The spirit removed from the above Chino body is installed in the Beltran body, and BTW, is none too happy with the new digs.
Look at it like this: You have several computers and you somehow, during troubleshooting, swap some of the hard drives into the wrong chassis.
BTW do we know what happened to Beltran's 'Spirit"? Anyway, moving along:
So how long before Beltrino sees LeonChi and recognizes his former, much more desirable, non-lamp post body. And understandably wants it back.?
And we still have the one in the ground and a floating spirit out there somewhere. I mean, it seems a waste.
That Afterlife Chick with the funny hair does some clever stuff, but she doesn't follow through. She's still cute though.
BWHAHAHA ...............Burn baby burn :-)
Oh and Happy Monday all.
Anon 5:37, yep, they are getting hot; I'd much rather see them going at it than seeing Eva and the Scorpion...eewwww! And, Kirby, it'll be nice to see Lucia and Johny buuurnn, but who will Leochi be left with??? Uhmmm, I'm available :-D
I hadn't even thought about a Val-Chino reunion. Oh, the possibilities.
Yes, graveyard dude with the gun is Black Moth Bus Baby's Daddy-o. If she's been transmigrated, wouldn't you think Graveyard Daddy would notice? Who died and how did Black Moth Baby get the soul. Where is hers?
And yes, Beltran nearly died and got El Chino's soul, for some reason. His soul is floating around and Leon's body is stone cold in the grave.
Is Srta. Muerte playing with them or did she mess up and has to try to straighten things out and do a do-over.
RGV--great insight regarding the leaking (bleeding) souls, so far we've only seen Leonchi's and Beltino's bleed. Yep, one day these two will meet, but I bet Leon won't want to give up his new wrapper. I have a feeling things will get ugly, or why else would Beltino want to do body-building exercises and bulk up on carbs.
So she is in a class with Vale, and gets to know her and Juli. When she sees then 'together', she, thinking with Beltrino's Spirit, wants to talk them into a threesome, thinking that what they don't know will not hurt them.
Beltrina almost has them talked into it but the plan falls through. They are OK with the Black Moth tattoo, but BeltrinA is wearing the Duluth Buck Nakeds and they call it off.
This concept of intercahangable bodies
Is an interesting Idea. It'll be really
Interesting to see who is actually in
Charge of desiding who goes into whoes
Body. What will they come up with next
?
