Amar A Muerte, 12/28/18, Episode 39: Emotional Torture Takes All Forms

  • Dumb as a doorknob crook #2 loses his gun in the all but emptied parking garage to the sure, swift moves of the real El Chino who is still embodied in Beltran.  Belchin' and Barbara unceremoniously dump DADC #1 out of his car and bleed tread hightailing it to Mexico by way of the highway.
  •
  • Lucia works her wiles on Sr. Armenta and cons him into signing a formal agreement to keep his word regarding what he and she discussed during their interview (I believe).  Knowing her true background, she explains, he, as a violent man, must also accept that it costs her a lot of effort to believe he'd keep his word.  Politicians don't keep their word, but him, yes.  (Guess he figures because he knows his salad fork from his dinner fork, his kind are set apart somehow.  Fuchi!)  He takes the pen and we assume tries impressing her by putting pen to paper.

  • Dinner at Camilo's, however, is a much less productive scenario.  León, in Jacobo's dynamo wrapper, is lost in thought.  He is wondering why he hasn't heard from Lucia in a while and what might be happening during the dinner.  (Viewerville says let Jacón stew--pardon the pun, NOT--in his own juices awhile.  If he was that worried, he shouldn't have been such a friction' putz and at least returned one her five phone calls.)  Cam has it all figured out and puts it bluntly:  Jacobo's plan to avenge León's betrayal by Lucia has failed utterly.  Jake wanted Lucia to fall madly in love with him but seems Jake instead has fallen madly in love with Lucia.  The two friends toast to the acknowledged, tenebrific (aka, depressing--and what a rich word!) truth of the matter.

  • At Alacran's alabaster den of abduction, one of his henchman approaches Lupita with a plate of food in hopes of persuading Alacran's anguished lady captive to repay him the favor with a bit of indebted dalliance.

  • Meanwhile, Renata and Teo discuss her dashed dreams of a meaningful relationship with Guillermo.  Teo has cooked her a delicious dinner to distract her.  During the conversation, he delivers a life truth:  "--When a man wants something with you he will do everything to make it plain."  Yup, Keyla has told her this same thing so many times! So, she agrees to turn the page and begin again.  Guille will now be just The Boss to her.

  • Lupi has been untied by Horny Henchman.  Lupi gets her chance and stabs him with her fork then races downstairs.  Unfortunately, the other henchman is ready with his gun and gets her back upstairs once again.

  • At the same time, Valentina talks Mateo into publishing the notice about Chino Valdez's wife having been kidnapped and requesting him to come forward.

  • Tía Milagrossa gets mad at Panchito for having brought such bad people into her house as tenants.   "--People with bad ways are always surrounded by bad people and doings!"  Juliana tells Millie off, natch, and makes the call to Alacran.  "--NO notice till I speak to my mother!"  Lupi tells Jules not to comply.  Jules is a bit smarter than that, though we all wonder which side of the familia she got the talent genes.

  • Lucia finally arrives home,  totally spent from her "romantic" dinner with Armenta.  She flashback's to their parting where she sidesteps a mouth lock by the narcotrafficante and turns it into a polite peck on the cheek.  She turns around and suddenly Jake is there.  He asks her how the evening went.  (Viewerville must admit to thinking that León's   once youthful soft-spoken sensuality is channeling very well through Chino's "wrapper." Yes indeed and indubitably!)  She's angry that she called but he failed to reply and when she most needed him.  He answers that he did it so she'd learn to be more independent of him.  She weeps and wipes away a tear.  "--You work for me, right?"  "--Yes, but your employees also take a rest."  "--What did I do so badly for you to treat me this way?"  "--Better you should tell me how it went with Armenta.  Lucia complains that the man is apparently infatuated with her and she's uncertain how she's going to get him off her back.  Jake reminds her she is irresistible and swoops in for The Kiss, which, Viewerville notes, he delivers quite convincingly-and quite well!

  • Lucia decides it's time to really knock ol' Jake back on his heels and forthwith gets him undressed and backed into the foot of the bed.  He stops and interjects like a smart ass, "--Ah, Señora, are you certain you want to do it here in León's bed.  She looks at him like "where the Hell did that come from and how could he bring that up in the heat of such passion?"  (My interpretation, natch.)  She knocks him backward like any self-respecting woman of power. (Eva call your office!)  They fall onto the bed and set the sheets on fire.  (Gotta admit there are times when having to review the video a few times to insure I get it correctly for the bloggers is anything but a drag......je-je-je!)

  • Back in Téjas, Belchin and Barb find a crappy motel to stay for the night.  Barb gripes about wanting a bigger cut.  La Muerte appears as the maid and allows Belchin' to choke from asthma (as a kind of lesson?) FF>>

  • Marino tries to get Lupi to tell him where Chino's hiding out.  He'll get him and she can go.  She comments that she really hasn't seen him since he left Téjas.  "--It's as if the earth swallowed him whole.  He won't come for me."  Marino tells her she'd better start praying then and leaves.
  •  Val talks to Juls that it's done. Val talks to Mateo.  Val's got to wait to see if all comes out in the news as planned.  Don't get involved if she and they are all good people, then the less they all know, the better. FF>>

  • Back in León's bed... a satisfied Lucia says it's a great way to end a rough day.  Yup, she likes being with him-- "--and feeling protected," adds Jake.   He says it feels a bit odd being totally naked in León's bed.  She tells him to think of other things-of them, for instance.  He says he does, but have together--where does it lead?  What comes after?  She admits she doesn't know.  He admits he is falling in love with her and he's rarely been so serious about something.  He wonders if she feels the same way.  She replies that it's not his eyes but the look on his face when he looks at her.  She then ceases to feel doubtful, fearful.  She has lived moments of happiness when with him: he's the one nice thing she's done for herself, despite his being off limits for her.  There is something in his eye, his mouth, in his skin and in his soul which is hers; she knows it's her own because only with him can she be herself.  And.....just then the phone rings.  (Cue the scratched record on phonograph.)  Yup, it's Johny Corona (crown of the john, himself) calling to see what happened with Armenta.  Jake guesses.  She says it's urgent.  "--Sra.,  Do you know how  pretty you are when you lie?"

  • Lucia takes the call appropriately in the John and tells JC that she was in the tub and couldn't get to the phone quickly enough.  They'll talk tomorrow at the office.  Click!  JC is flabbergasted at Lucia's abrupt end to their chat.....
  • Lucia notes that Jake's left while she was on the phone with JC.  Bummer.....(Viewerville notes that Jacobo is a lover, not a fighter.  We thus assume he felt discretion to be the better part of valor.)  Well, he's actually down in the kitchen pondering and taking a bite out of a ripe tomato...so León Carvajal.....
  • Next morning Jacón and Cam note that in the papers the wife of the man whose been paquetito Leo now lives in has been kidnapped by the Sierra Cartel and they want a ransom.  Chino's wife and kid are innocents and he will not stand by while this takes place!  "--Like Robin Hood?" Cam wants to know.  Good question.  Meanwhile, Juls tries talking sense to Alacran but he could care less.  Al does stop a rape from Horny Henchman again.  However, he hung up on a crying, worried out of her mind Juls and then tells Lupi that his men will all have their way with her eventually--especially if Chino doesn't appear soon.
  • Eva gripes at Mateo for getting his article about the Valdez kidnapping onto the front page with his byline.  He of course refuses to tell her who his source was.  She stomps off in disgust.

  • Johny arrives and Lucia takes a lift into work with him.  They are both upset that Armenta knows her true background.  How long till he finds out about León's death?  Johny agrees this is serious.

  •  Jake arrives a bit later to take Lucia into the office and learns, yeah, ol' JC took her instead.  Guille needs a lift somewhere and has Jake take him.  They talk about Mayela's scheming and manipulation of the press and him to make it seem that they were dating seriously and possibly looking towards marriage.  Not a chance in Hell is Guille's attitudes.  Anyway, there's his secretary who remains such a mystery to him-- and no, Jake, her being his employee or a secretary makes not difference to him.  His only concern is getting "involved" and complicating his life.  Guille asks Jake if he could come to discuss things with him like friend to friend in the future.  Jake says of course.  No problem.  They are heading to the liquor store owner's house for now.
  • Before leaving La Mugrosa Motel in Téjas,  Belchin' sees the news and learns about the kidnapping.  He remembers Alacran didn't care about any money in the case he was ordered to take from the judge; he wanted the thumb drive of information only.    Barb and Belchin' jump into the car and make tracks for Méjico.
  • Johny and Lucia get to her office and shut the door.  He wants them to be the most powerful couple in the world.  "--Isn't it just enough to be the biggest big shot of the Carvajal Empire?"  No.    In fact, he suggests they make their relationship known.  Lucia says they can't.  It would be a horrific scandal.  Wasn't it bad enough Guille had a birthday party so soon after his daddy's death?  They cannot just announce that they fell in love overnight.  JC says the press will forget about it in a few short weeks.  Well, she counters, the family wouldn't.  Only Eva, says Johny.  He then shocks the shinola out of her by suggesting they elope.

"Ultimo beso"-si como no.
Beautiful, almost perfect love scene and my favorite tn couple. This time in bed. But, Johny's phone call and Lucia's lie ruined everything. Incredible night convert into wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am.
This is second interruption of their's love scene. Lucky for them that Johny isn't a scuba diver.

Very paintful and emotional scene for me was scene few minutes before they kissed, when Luci (with tears in her eyes) asked him why is he treating her so badly. I am not a cry baby (it's not totally true, I cried while watching LQLVMR in scene where Alex asked for forgiveness on his knees), but sad look on Lucia's face, I don't know, for me that was hurtful and heartbreaking. I still believe in her redemption.
Thanks in advance for recape.

Jardinera Thanks. Suggests they elope? "Ah sure Mi Amor, but, uh, we are going to need a chofer right?

Johny has moved over from scheming cray cray to flat out delusional, as he has seen his plans in the works for YEARS hit one speedbump after another. Of course nobody in or out of their mind would have a contingency plan built in for Death Chick to go and undead the the one you killed. Plus, put them in another body and not tell ya.

I still like her. Renata, Keila, Death Chick. in that order.

Kirby: My family & I got back to San Antonio, TX late last night. Anything crazy going on ?

Yeah, there IS now that you're back !

Well, you could read the recaps, but the main dilema is that Alacran has kidnapped Lupita in an attempt to draw El Chino out, as he apparently thinks he would have better luck than old Sparky.

Can anyone here comment on Tenías Que Ser Tu ??? Wondering whether this did well in Mexico and will be worth watching?

Thanks Jardinera. Got a chuckle out of this:

(Guess he figures because he knows his salad fork from his dinner fork, his kind are set apart somehow. Fuchi!)

Yes, Armenta is definitely fuchi with that thick, pock-marked skin overlaying an enormous, arrogant, rotted ego.

In spite of the sweet love scene twixt our beautiful people, my favorites are still Barbara and Beltran. They remind me of an old radio show back in the 40's and 50's called the Bickersons. And those black socks with her sad nightgown. Ay yi yi! Just a great touch. As was Beltran's making her remove his shoes and handcuffing himself to the briefcase.

Sheer delight in these two as well as any interior or exterior shots of Camillo's home. Every detail is simply perfect. This is a top-notch production from casting, to wardrobe and decor. Plus the intricacies of the dialogue fascinates me. So well done and so different for each character.

Enjoying this to the max. Just like your recaps, Jardinera.

Jardinera- I, too, am totally fascinated with this TN- - so many well drawn interesting characters and such intriguing relationships. Lots of super nuanced characters. And to think, I was so worried that I would not enjoy due to the whole transmigration stuff. At this point, I am beginning to believe in all this- - - surprising considering I’m from a science based medical background with a seriously pragmatic mindset!

As always, i want to thank the talented recappers and commentators! Love it and appreciate it.
MUY FELIZ AÑO a todos!!!

OOOPS! Meant to address that last one to JudyB!!
And thank you Jardinera for your funny and clever recaps!

Good Monday Morning, Patio!

Busy week-end, but I’m here now. Thank you, Jardinera for a luscious recap…and your title quite befitting!

Anon 12/29 at 10:15, I suppose we all knew that would definitely not be Lucía’s last beso for LCJ, but then doesn’t that just add to aptness for lying and being the drama queen that she is? The emotional scene that you mention would have been more emotional if I had some minute hope that Lucía was remorseful about what she did to León, but I don’t. LCJ is the second man she takes to León’s bed and it hasn’t even been 3 months that León died. I was rooting for LCJ for being so blunt and cold with her.

Kirby, ITA that Johny is delusional. Lucía keeps putting him off and he doesn’t have a clue that her feelings or loyalty have changed? I would really like to know Johny’s background and how he got so twisted.

Lucía did seem quite scared, but she kept her cool with Armenta. I enjoyed watching her squirm when he confronted her about her past. I only wish León had been as resourceful. But then, León may have relied on Johny to do a background check…that could explain why León was so ignorant about her past.

OT- AMOT, from what I have read, “Tenías Que Ser Tu” was well-liked. In Mexico, it replaced Papa a Toda Madre and the viewers seem to think that it was a good choice as replacement. It stars Ariadne Diaz and I like her; so I might just force myself to watch it. The only criticism I found was that the story could have been told in less than 85 episodes; so there may be times when one would think that it is mot moving along as quickly as one would wish.

Happy New Year's Eve, Everyone!

Thanks for letting me know about Tenías Que Ser Tu, RgvChick. I have often found that to be the case --that it could end earlier. Even though I am dying for the comeuppances and the final mergers of the protagonists, it's sometimes too elongated.
However, I don't know what else to watch!!! There is some other 10 episode deal starting end of January and now I cannot remember the name of it. Jugar something?

Hola Amigos! It's ViviDC, saying hello and happy new year from Guadalajara, MX! I'm here to spend New Year's with friends in Ajijic, Mexico, straight from spending Christmas in Guyana, also with friends. While here in Mexico, I couldn't help but think of you all here on Caray Caray and to wish you all well in 2019. I might jump back into the world on telenovelas this coming year, but even if I don't, this lovely community is never far from my thoughts. Abrazos muy fuertes a todos!
-Vivi

Vivi...how great to hear from you. And what a world traveler you continue to be...friends everywhere on the planet and making new ones I'm sure. However, glad you remember your old buds on CarayCaray 'cause we miss you big-time. I'd love it if you'd join us for Amar a Muerte. It's got an interesting mystical sub-text to the usual romantic intrigues and I, for one, look forward to each episode. Blessings to you for 2019 and abrazos muy fuertes a ti.

VIvi, what a wonderful surprise to see your comment. I was just arriving at Caray, Caray when you decided to take a break, but I did enjoy your comments and recaps. I remember that you started us off on one of the TNS...might have been Doble Vida...or was it El Color de la pasión? Anywho, everyone here thinks of you often and wishes your speedy return to Caray. I had no idea that you are such a traveler! I’m “yelas” :-) hope you have a wonderful time and a safe return. Feliz Año Nuevo!!

OT- AMot, the new TN, “Jugar con Fuego” starts on Jan 22nd at 9 pm (E). It will replace “”Falsa Idebtidad” on Telemundo. And, yes, they did announce that it would only be 10 episodes.

ViviDC! Nice to hear from you! Have a happy New Year. And yes, we all do miss you here.
========
Also Happy New Year to all the Patio Peeps!

Happy 2019 everybody!

A TODOS en el PATIO: Que el año 2019 les traiga la mayor de las alegrías... ¡Que tengan un feliz año!

Rgv Chick: Jugar con Fuego- Jan 22nd. Thank you!!! So grateful that you are so informed!!!!

I too, thought I wouldn't like the transmigration thing (I didn't watch Mario Cimarro in 'El Cuerpo del Deseo' for that very reason.

I'm really into Michel Brown and Angelique Boyer as a couple in this novela; however, she and Rulli have a special, on-screen chemistry.

I fell in love with Michel Brown in Pasión de Gavilanes. His eyes were/are mesmerizing.

And I think Angelique Boyer has been knocking it out of the ballpark since Teresa and LQLVMR. She cries so much better than Lucero! And please don't ask me who is the worst crier of all ---well Victoria Ruffi is it!!!

O/T

Are we to think that Univisión/Televisa will now be showing novelas less than 100+/- episodes and the rest will be considered a series?

Viví, it's great to hear from you. I'm so happy for you having fun during the holidays. Please don't disappear!

Victoria, I only watched Victoria Riffi in one TN and don't remember how she cries, but I did watch Simplemente Maria with Claudia Alvarez and I could not stand her crying! So, in my book, Claudia gets the Worst Crier Award.

Anon 7:02, I believe that AAM airs at a later hour than it does here. I think that when there are pre-emptions due to soccer or special programs, those games/shows may be over with enough time for the TN to be aired...just my thought :-)

Riffi...Ruffi...whatever! LOL

HAPPY NEW YEAR, PATIO PEEPS!

I wish you happiness, peace, and much success! May you have a blessed year!

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and above all a HEALTHY one!

Thanks Judy, One Word:
Oatmeal

:-)

Dang it Kirby, I eat steel-cut oats with blueberries every morning and look where it got me, a helluva cold for the past three weeks. (but uh, maybe I'd be even worse off without that righteous breakfast)

I'd like to be as tough and impressive as that eagle of yours, but doesn't seem to be in the cards.

O/T

Please does anyone know what the record number of comments that Caraymates have posted for a novela ???

Victoria, I’m not sure what the record number is, but I remember that during Doble Vida de Estella Carillo, we went over 200.
