You are invited to gather
around Guille’s favorite spot by the fountain on the Carvajál estate while your
intrepid reporter from ALL Chismes ALL the Time checks into the stories
swirling around The Widow of Mexico, her family, business and acquaintances. The Truth
will be revealed in parts by yours truly, Hedda Saltadora.
Part 1
* Just to refresh your memory
which made have faded due to non-stop football over the weekend, Friday we left
Johny pointing Fabricio’s gun at poor trembling Fabricio in the security office.
Johny is certain Fab is involved in this little gaslighting game that’s going
on with the photos and notes arriving in León’s handwriting. (NOTE: I was
unaware that a soul retains its original handwriting when deposited in another
body, but Ok, for the sake of the story, I’m willing to go with it.)
* Waving the gun around, Johny
wants an explanation for the hooded guy in the video (Fab admits to it being him) delivering the envelope to
Johny’s house, after hours. Fab says it was with the rest of the mail and
there was a note with it from Johny himself for it to be delivered right away. He was just
following orders. When Johny asks to produce the note, Fab says he threw it
away after the envelope had been delivered. So, Johny the unctuous and
obsequious, is gone and in his place is the paranoid, menacing real Johny the Crown (rhymes with Clown). Fortunately for Fab, he tosses the gun
aside but warns Fab if he learns that he’s no longer his faithful dog and
betraying him, after all he’s done for him, and making him crazy with Jacobo,
he’s going to kill both of them and eat them in pieces. (All this happened in
the first minute.)
* Meanwhile up at the big
house, Silvina is fixing morning coffee and breakfast, talking to
León/Chino/Jacobo (LCJ-or Jake). She declares that now with Eva in the house, it will be open warfare with Lucia and not a pleasant place to work. Lucia enters and asks to have her breakfast sent
to her room when she sees Jake standing there. She sends Silvina on an errand
and walks seductively over to stand in front of Jake. After exchanging good
mornings, he leans over and says, with respect to their conversation last night…Luci
answers, that she’s in love with him? Yes, and she loves saying it while
looking into his eyes. Jake wonders what she has in mind, making love in the
kitchen? He starts to kiss her and Spoiler Alert announces his arrival. The two
break apart quickly and pretend they didn’t want nookie with their coffee.
Johny asks for a cup, too, and then tells Jake he wants to have a little chat.
(He’s taken his glasses off, so what kind of chat is he going to want?)
* Mateo knocks on Vale’s door
to show her he published Lupita’s death notice, indicating that she was
cremated, so there’s no tomb. Although he didn’t feel right publishing it, he
tells Vale he would do anything for her and people she loves. He warns her,
though, to stay away from “those” people because dealing with narcos never
turns out well. Vale says she can’t leave Juls alone with her mother still in
intensive care.
* Directing a look at Luci and
back to Jake, Johny-Inspector-Hound says he knows everything, all about it. Jake is confused, all
what? Johny produces the letter and hands it to Lucia to read. She doesn’t let
Jake read it. Johny claims he has proof--a video showing Fabricio delivering
the envelope. He claims it was on Jake’s orders. [NOTE: Is this true and I misheard
the dialog during the Johny-Fab confrontation? He was being pretty loud,
drowning out Fab. Or is Johny lying?] Jake denies knowing anything about the
matter. Well, while the three of them are there, Johny wants to know Who is Who
in the house. YAY for Eva (I never thought I would say that), who walks in and
wants to be a fourth. She turns to Jake and tells him Vale is waiting for him
outside. Jake leaves to find her.
* Eva notes the rarity of
Johny showing up at the house so early. When her dad was alive, he never even came for a visit. He clarifies that it was always her father’s wish for him to be there
for his family. Eva reminds him that the “family” consists of the true
Carvajals, not this recent arrival, indicating Lucia. She sneers in Luci’s
direction. The two ladies start a verbal cat fight. Johny learns Eva has moved
in. Luci takes him to the home office (also known for desk top sex) for a talk.
* Out in the country Renata is
on the phone with Keila telling her and not telling her about the fabulous time
she’s having with Guille while Keila is sifting turds from the cat box. (Is
this a first for Televisa?) She shares that Guille is something else and lists
all his attributes. When asked if they are novios or what, Renata says they’ve
decided not to label how they feel about each other and just be fluid. Keila
worries that once they do it, a man loses interest in the woman. Guille arrives with
breakfast on a tray and a rose in his mouth. Breakfast is forgotten.
* Santos arrives at Camilo’s
place to have the tests Camilo wants to run. He hopes it won’t take long
because he’s hungry. Then Maru-Hector shows up and s/he is introduced to Santos
as another one of “those."
* Barbara calls and threatens
Beltran again to pay up or she’ll tell his wife everything. It freaks her out
when she sees a butterfly.
Part 2
* Mugre kicks Carmelo, who is
stretched out on a couch, that they have to go to Lupita’s burial site. It’s
early, but since he doesn’t know where, they have to go to the hospital to
check it out. It needs to be done before El Al gets back.
* Jake is driving Vale to the
clinic, talking about Juls and her mother. He notes she is a bit sad. Val tells
him Juls is leaving the city.
* In the home office, Luci
charges Johny with obsessing over Jake. He says the same thing. How does she
know it isn’t Jake? Luci holds up the note. It’s in Leon’s handwriting. Johny
pooh-poohs the idea that León decided to return for a few days to send them
scary love notes. Luci believes it is someone close to the family. It *could*
be Fabricio. Johny believes that Luci and that guy have something going on and
that is why she defends him. At this point, Luci is exasperated with him. Johny
wonders if it could be Armenta. Luci says no, he does things directly,
face-to-face. When she asked him if he had any interest in Carvajál, he said
no, only in her—which frightens her. She asks Johny to think of someone closer,
someone in the office. Johny comes up with Cardenas. Why Cardenas? He recently
requested all the data on financial movements since León’s death. Johny muses
that this could be a wider, more macabre plan involving more than one person.
Luci comes up with Eva’s name.
* Eva, meanwhile, is still at
home, on the phone with El Al. She wants to know when she will see him and
where. He’ll let her know. Silvina pops up behind her with her breakfast. Eva
sends it to the table. With Eva still on the phone with El Al, Mateo shows up
for breakfast and Eva immediately switches to her office power-voice. She
greets Mateo, who besides his clothes, is wearing an unmistakable wide grin of
satisfaction. Eva answers with her own there’s more where that came from grin
(although we know she’s saving it for El Al).
* At the Carvajal offices,
Mayela sweeps in wearing a red jump suit, ready to jump Guille. She notes Ren’s
empty desk and assumes she quit. Keila tells her no, she’s just MIA. Mayela
asks for Guille. He’s MIA, too. She orders Keila to get ahold of him. Keila
informs her she’s Eva’s secretary and what the other Carvajal siblings do, is
not her business. She suggests Mayela call him herself. She has, stupid niña.
(No wonder she has no friends and pushes away the ones that might be. She’s a
mini-me Eva/Johny.) She and her flouncy top flounce away after telling Keila to
have Guille call her when she sees him.
* Alicia gets to Javier’s
room to fawn all over him. Beltino is not there and Javier takes the
opportunity to tell his ma about his father’s strange phone conversation about
getting him out of this body because he isn’t Beltran. Alicia tells him not to
pay attention to his father’s ramblings. When Beltino shows up, Alicia pulls
him aside and wants to know what he was thinking talking like that in front of
Javier. Is he crazy or what? Beltino answers that yes, he’s crazy—before he
gets a coffee and leaves to find one.
* Meanwhile, out in the country,
Renata and Guille are still having fun, away from prying eyes and mouths (like
mine, but I found them) back at the office. Tongues would wag incessantly about
him and his secretary (you betcha). In high spirits, they playfully tease each
other about their fears.
* Barbara is with a client.
She looks in her crystal ball and hears a voice and noises. The client doesn’t.
When she won’t come through with an answer for him, he gets up and leaves,
calling her a fraud. Barb is rattled.
* Santos joins Maru/Hec at
Camilo’s table. Maru is hungry. Santos eats. He laughs at Hec’s predicament of
being brought back in a young girl’s body. He’s never seen that before. Hec
doesn’t think it’s funny and gets quite agitated. Santos tells h/her to cool it
or the butterfly will wake up. He tells Hec that it bleeds and hurts when not
doing things right. Hec needs to find out his mission, why he was brought back.
Hec doesn’t care. He doesn’t even care he was brought back at all. (Wrong answer Hector.)
* Carmelo and Mugre arrive at
the clinic. Mugre tells him to wait outside for him while he goes in the back
way to avoid the security cameras. Mugre sits down to wait.
* Vale and Jake have also
arrived. Vale tries to slip some money into Jake’s hands. He at first refuses,
but Vale tells him that her father taught her to take care of the people who
work for and with her. He asks if that is really what her father taught her?
Vale says yes, and leaves Jake with the money in his hand and tells him to get
whatever he wants, he’s too thin. Jake seems pleased he did something right.
* Guille
has prepared a picnic for his and Renata’s dream date. Still talking about
things they fear, Renata turns serious and says she fears a broken heart.
Guille says it is something they all fear. Ren says that won’t happen, though,
right? Guille answers. (Darn, I couldn’t get close enough to hear his answer,
but I think he gave her the right answer: not until he’s “on the other side,”
but he is afraid of that.) Juarever. It
leads to more kissing.
Part 3
* Lucia is in her Carvajal
office ruminating over the note and Johny’s version of how it got to him. She
replays the rest of Johny’s accusation in her head. She sits with a “could it
be Jake or not” look on her face.
* Barbara is exhorting her
guardian angels to send her a sign. She needs to know who is disturbing her
peace. The phone rings. It’s Beltran. It’s about time. Barb complains about
him, but now it’s the voices. She needs his help. She wants him to come right
away. He tells her he can’t right then.
* Juls is at the cashier to
ask if she can pay Lupita’s bill in installments. The clerk tells her the bill has
been paid in full. Juls isn’t very happy about the thought, though. She turns
away and sees Jake and calls out Chino. She chases after him, out of the
clinic, then loses him. Jake calls Camilo in a panic, not knowing what to do.
Vale sent him out to get her phone charger and he can’t risk going into the
room. Cam tells him to leave it at the desk and have someone else take it to
her.
* At Carvajal, Cardenas is
chewing out Machado for not maintaining strict confidence in the matter he
asked him to do and what did he do? Ran straight to Johny Corona. Machado defends
his actions saying that Sr. Corona is his boss. Cardenas says his boss is the Carvajal
family. Johny Corona is a nobody. Lucia enters unannounced and tells them she’s pleased
to see them so pro-active. She takes Cardenas to her office for a talk, despite
his protestation that he has a busy day ahead.
* Johny has asked Eva to come
to his office. When she arrives, he shows her the photo of León, Lucia and
himself and asks what she thinks of it. She sees hypocrisy. She wonders if that
is what she was called in for, to look at a photo. If she didn’t know him
better, she’d think he was really missing her father. But, since she does, she
knows he only ever acted the part of being the sycophant that he is. (Well, she
said sympathetic ass, but your reporter thinks sycophant fits better.) Nothing will
change her mind. Johny is sad to hear that. The only thing missing, he avers,
is that Eva would think he ever had anything to do with the death of her
father. Eva icily replies that if it were so, she wouldn't waste time putting him
behind bars. She’d send him straight to hell. She walks out without so much as
a con permiso.
* Guille and Renata return to
reality—the office parking lot. Guille is still trying to prolong the bliss,
but Renata has to fight him off, gently. He says this meeting he has to attend
had better be good to take him away from her. Unfortunately, Vicky gets an
eyeful of the turtle doves and is no doubt off and running to tell dat to
Mayela.
* Mugre gets to the hospital
desk and asks about Lupita’s wake and funeral, feigning that he’s her nephew.
The nurse pretends to look up the information and lets him know that the
body was taken last night. That’s all she knows. He should ask a member of the
family for the details.
* Juls tells Lupita she just
saw Chino. He was wearing a suit. Lupita says it couldn’t have been Chino. He
hates suits. Vale enters right then. Juls takes her out to have a talk. Vale is
rattling on about chocolates when Juls turns and asks her about the bill. Vale
swears she didn’t pay it, though she would have gladly, but she would have
asked her first. Juls guesses it must have been El Chino. After they get back
to Lupita’s room, Juls calls the finance office and finds out someone named
Beltran Camacho paid the bill. Lupita hears his name and says he’s her guardian
angel.
* At Renata’s desk, Keila
wants all the details. Guille arrives and before he can barely greet them, Eva
hijacks him for the meeting. Keila chides Ren for showing up in the same
clothes she had on the last time she was in the office. It looks like she came straight from a hotel. Eva will probably notice. Ren says she’s been in paradise. Keila wants the whole fairy tale
and asks what comes next. Ren doesn’t know. She’s left thinking.
* Mayela is getting her
make-up on for her show. Vicky is telling her what she saw—Guille and his
secretary walking together. He had his arm around her. It all looked very
familiar. Mayela brushes off the thought of Guille being with anyone like his
secretary. In fact no one would ever show any interest in her. Vicky insists
she has a sixth sense when something is going on between a man and a woman and
this fits the bill. Vicky asks Mayela to be discrete and not say anything about
what she just shared.
* Mugre returns to find Carmelo.
Carmelo shows him the notice in the paper. Lupita was cremated, so there is no
funeral. Suddenly, Mugre catches sight of Jake/Chino’s back and fingers him. He
tells Carmelo to hightail it back to the car while he follows Chino and takes
care of business. As he takes the stairway, Beltino catches a glimpse of Mugre
and follows him. In full view of the stairs, Jake looks around cautiously. He
stops at a nurses station to hand over the charger. Mugre pulls his gun out of
his pocket but doesn’t do anything. Beltino sees himself and recognizes
himself. He starts to have trouble breathing. Ay Caray.
