Amar a Muerte, 1/15/2019, Episode 50: The Law Takes 'Dirt' and Death Takes 'Saints'

Alt Title: That's My Body and I'll Take It If I Want It

Beltrino gasps as he thinks about seeing his body. He watches Mugres going up the hospital stairs and starts to go after him with his weapon drawn. When Mugres reaches the top of the stairs and is seen, people start screaming and the undercover nurse and another cop yell at him. As LCJ turns around and makes a run for it, shots are fired, Beltrino makes a quick u-turn down the stairs, and Carmelo goes down. Mugres grabs a nurse as hostage and retreats as he tells the undercover nurse to not move. Once Mugres makes a run for it, the nurse chases after him while LCJ hides behind the nurse’s station and Beltrino is at the bottom of the stairwell waiting for things to settle down upstairs.

Outside, the cops arrive and are told to cover all the exits. Mugres has released the nurse and runs down the outside stairs while flinging around his weapon. As the undercover nurse talks to the head cop and tells him that García was shot, Lupita is panicking and Juls tells Vale to lock the door. Vale goes to close the door, but LCJ grabs and pulls her out to take her away from the hospital. Meanwhile, Beltrino goes to look behind the nurse’s station in search of his former body. He finds nothing and looks around. Out on the stairs, Vale is yelling at LCJ that she needs to stay with Juls, but LCJ yells back that he is not going to let anything happen to her and that they are leaving NOW! Inside, Beltrino walks frantically in search of his body as Alicia calls him about the shots fired; so he tells her to lock herself in the room. Outside, Vale is trying to get away from LCJ because she wants to go back with Juls until he grabs her head with both hands and tells her that no one will harm her. Mugres is still running through stairs and halls trying to get away from the cops who are now everywhere; they finally manage to surround him at some stairs. After he has a hissy fit and drops his weapon, the cops cuff and arrest him.

Inside the hospital, a security guard tries to calm everyone down at the cafeteria while Beltrino is in a frenzy searching for his body. He sees someone in a suit crouched and grabs him to take a look…Nopis, not him! Beltrino is frustrated that he lost his body.   (Again dammit!  Never a dull moment with that body, Buddy.)

At the company, Lucía is playing with her origami bird as she tells Cardenas that she knows she is not one of his favored saints; she knows he thinks she is an opportunist and a million other bad things. Cardenas tries to get a word in, but Lucía tells him not to be a hypocrite; she knows how loyal he is to Eva and agrees with Eva that she shouldn’t be there. She wants to make one thing clear…she is there to stay...because she can; and she isn’t going anywhere; so it’s important that they have a friendlier relationship. When Cardenas asks why she is saying all of this, Lucía asks him who was so discreet in sending him to ask for the financial report….she thinks it’s Eva. Cardenas replies that it is his job, but Lucía points out that he specifically asked for the report from the time right after León’s death. After Cardenas explains that Don Carvajal expected them to request reports frequently, Lucía emphasizes that things are no longer that way. Cardenas accepts that, but what seems odd to him is that both she and Johny are so shocked that a board member would request reports to ensure the financial status of the company. Lucía could care less what reports he asks for, the problem is that he is not telling who is behind this…who is asking for all the reports. She then tells him that when he is ready to tell her the truth, he knows where to find her….she doesn’t like lies (only the ones she tells??  Must be why you look soooo unhoppy lately)

Outside the hospital, Mugres is brought to Montilla. Montilla roughs him up a bit and makes him look at his dead buddy who is being taken out in a gurney. Meanwhile, inside the hospital, Beltrino is now taking his time looking for his body when Barb calls him to ask for her money. Beltrino tells her he has more important things to do right now...he just saw some other guy with his body. After he tells her about the shooting and how he lost sight of his body, Barb asks who the guy is and if he works there, but Beltrino has no idea since he saw him from afar. Barb thinks that guy is the key to everything; Beltrino knows that…that is why he isn’t going to stop until he finds him. When Beltrino tells her that he is going to tell the guy to return his body to him, Barb thinks that is impossible. Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Belt?

LCJ and Vale arrive at the Carvajal home. Vale is talking to Juls and is furious that LCJ forced her to leave the hospital when she wanted to stay. She then tells Juls that if anything happens, she will send Jacobo for her. LCJ tries to motion to her that he can’t, but Vale ignores him. After she ends the call, Vale tells LCJ that she doesn’t know why she allowed him to take her out of the hospital. He replies that she is not thinking straight; (no not THAT kinda straight) there were criminals and she could have gotten shot. They start to argue until Vale asks him who he thinks he is…her father? (uhmm, yeah, he is!) When she tells him to know his place, LCJ apologizes, but Vale tells him he can leave.

At the hospital, Juls and Pancho are wondering why the goons came back if they supposedly believed Lupita was dead. As they discuss, Lucho, Sergio, and Nayeli approach; so Juls tells them that Vale left to go home. When Lucho tells her that they are not there to see Vale, but to donate blood, Juls thanks them and shows them to the lab.

Alacrán and Co. arrive at the airport. When he asks about Mugres, Gancho tells him that things went sour at the hospital…Mugres got caught and Carmelo was taken out. Alacrán is pissed because all they had to do was find out about Lupita’s funeral. When heavy-set goon tells him that the cops set up a trap, Alacrán curses and doesn’t believe the cops could have done that.

At a prison, Montilla walks slowly to Mugres’s jail cell and welcomes him; they are very happy to have him there and Montilla is going to make sure that his staty there is a pleasant one…BUT the quality of services they will provide depends on the information Mugres can give them. (If you don't sing we are not going to let you frost your hair pretty one.)  Montilla gives him a choice—stay in a 5-star hotel or unlimited time in hell. Sh*t-for-brains Mugres wonders what Montilla wants him to say since he was only at the hospital to visit a sick aunt. When Montilla asks what he can tell him about Alacrán, Mugres plays stupid and tells him that there are several types of scorpions that can be very dangerous…they’re poisonous and sting. After Montilla laughs at Mugres’s humor, he tells him that then he has chosen his package—of torture where they have infallible methods to get information. Montilla then tells him to relax and enjoy the company of his newfound friends (mean-looking thugs who happen to be in the next cell) who are very anxious to be with him. As Montilla walks away, he tells the guard to “let ‘em loose!” (Remember the other goon's wife in the elevator?  Your turn, blondie.)

At the hospital, Sergio and Nayeli finish up giving blood. Nayeli is starving, so Juls invites them all to have breakfast at the cafeteria or to at least give them some money for breakfast, but Lucho assures her that she need not pay them…he has already told her that Vale’s friends are his friends. After Juls thanks him and tells him that she needs to go wait for the doctor, Lucho tells her that she can count on him for anything. As Juls walks away, Lucho looks at her with annoyance.

At the hospital offices, Beltrino is trying to talk the clerk into showing him the list of employees. When the clerk refuses, Beltrino tells her not to be so hard-hearted and makes up some story of having a brother whom he hasn’t seen in ten years. When he adds that he just saw him, the clerk tells him that he can leave his name and number; she will call him after she talks to administration. As he gives her his name, he hears Juls say, “It’s you? I knew it was you.”

At the company, Renata is at her desk humming when Mayela approaches and tells her she didn’t see her the day before; Mayela thought (HOPEOED) she had quit. After Renata tells her she had personal business to tend to, Mayela asks for Guille; so Renata replies that he is with Eva. Mayela leans over Renata’s desk and asks her if she and Guille made plans to be out on the same day…it’s quite a coincidence that both of them didn’t show up yesterday. Renata gets somewhat nervous and starts to tell Mayela that she doesn’t know, but Mayela tells her not to get so nervous because she is only confirming her suspicions. Mayela then reminds Renata of her place; she is only a secretary and should be aware of her limits. Just then, Guille walks out of Eva’s office and greets Mayela with a hug and a kiss. After they both go into his office to talk, Keila comes and whispers to Renata that it looks like Mayela suspects that something is going on between Renata and Guille. Renata wonders how Mayela could know…a witch maybe?  Witch, yeah, but her BFF saw you two in your car.

At the hospital, Beltrino gets nervous and wonders what Juls means. She explains that her mother told her about her guardian angel and that it was the same person who had paid the hospital costs. Her mother told him his name and when she heard him say it just now, she was touched. When Juls asks why he did it and if he knows her mother, Beltrino thinks about how he should respond.

At some restaurant, Cami talks to Steve about his research on transmigration. Cami tells him he has had five cases, but one died. When Steve warns him that there are lots of fakes, Cami explains that he is talking about souls in different bodies. Steve asks if Cami has done extensive mental exams because he has to check everything. When Steve started his own investigation, he had many hopes until he found that his cases were that of mental illness. When Cami assures him that he has scientific evidence, Steve teases him and asks if he is ready to go to the Vienna Conference, but Cami doesn’t have time to go to Vienna…he is too busy. Cami continues that his current investigation goes beyond his first book; he has a case of a 45 year old who transmigrated to a 15-year-old…and of a different sex. Steve is in disbelief that the people can’t choose the body or sex that they want; so Cami tells him that only death can decide that. Steve then hopes that this research doesn’t drive Cami crazy.

In his bedroom, Roy, Hector’s son, is on Facebook when he gets a friend request from Amanda Cisneros. Seeing that she is a looker, Roy starts chatting with her not realizing that the name is fake and it’s really Hec-Maru. When he sends her a video of himself skateboarding, Hec-Maru gets pissed because he had already told him not to do that…this is what he is doing instead of crying over his death. Roy then comments about his father’s abusive behavior; this sets off Hec-Maru again and he privately and vehemently denies treating them badly. He gets even worse when Roy writes that his mother has a boyfriend and Roy likes him.  Arrrggghhh.  Lucho is getting beat out by a chick, and now HeckMo turned into a chick and is beat out by a man.  You can't win in this town.

At the hospital, Beltrino and Juls sit as Beltrino explains that destiny put him in the right place so that he could help her mother…anyone would have done what he did. Juls then questions how he was able to pay off the hospital bill. Beltrino responds that money doesn’t come easy; so it should be spent on important things, such as helping others. Juls doesn’t think everyone thinks like Beltrino. When she adds that her father wouldn’t have paid one peso for her mother, Beltrino wonders if that is what she really thinks of her father; so Juls adds that her father is selfish and cheap. She then remarks that she doesn’t want to talk about her father…who she thinks she may have run into a while ago. Beltrino blurts out, “So you saw him too!” (And thinks 'Was that out loud?')  Juls looks surprised, so Beltrino asks if her father came to see her mother. Juls shrugs and responds that she honestly doesn’t know if he came to see her mother; she yelled at him, but he ignored her…which doesn’t surprise her because her father has always run away from his responsibilities. After she adds that her father is a coward, Beltrino looks dismayed and bites his tongue.

In Guille’s office, Mayela grills Guille about being out the previous day and where he went. Guille wonders why all the questions which seem more of an interrogation; so Mayela tells him she was just worried. Guille then tells her that he went to the valley; he wanted to get away for some quiet and privacy. Mayela quickly asks if he went alone. Guille is startled and wonders why Mayela is acting like a jealous girlfriend when they are just friends. When he asks that she not ruin their friendship because of some absurd jealousy, Mayela forces a smile and tells him that she has it very clear. Guille then tells her he has to go to a meeting and leaves. As he tells Renata that he is going to a meeting, Mayela watches from the office like an alley cat eyeing its next victim.

At the scorpion’s nest, Alacrán vows that they will pay for what they have done to his peeps and warns that Mugres better not have a loose tongue while in the can. When Gancho suggests that he can tell one of his contacts in jail to “take care” of Mugres, Alacrán would rather wait and see what happens…anyways, Mugres knows what will await him if he sings. They then consider whether El Chino had something to do with this; Alacrán is irked that the scoundrel is making fools of them.

At the company, Lucía is on her phone telling Rosalba to schedule a board meeting when LCJ walks in and starts closing the blinds; he tells her to tell Rosalba to hold off on scheduling a meeting or to schedule it for later. Lucía responds with, “Ay! Caray! (is she thinking about us here at Caray? :-) When she asks why, LCJ replies that they have something pending. Lucía smiles big and asks, “Here?” LCJ thinks there could be worse places, but today they only have this quaint office. Lucía tells him she has a busy day, but LCJ reminds her that during her phone call, she wanted this meeting, but since he is a gentleman, she just needs to say the word and he will leave. Lucía agrees as she takes off his jacket and they kiss. They continue to kiss and take off their clothes as they each say that they are now leaving.

While they are getting it on, Rosalba is confirming the meeting as she tries to peek into Lucía’s office.

Cecilia leaves her building and gets picked up by her new beau as she sees Hec-Maru watching from across the street.

At the company boardroom, everyone is waiting for Lucía to arrive…she is already five minutes late. Meanwhile Lucía and LCJ are heavy into their own private meeting as Lucía whispers that she wants to make to love to LCJ…and only him. She wonders if this doesn’t scare him...she is afraid that he may go away some day and not be able to feel this. LCJ nods that he is afraid too.

Renata sits at her desk with a big smile daydreaming about her time with Guille as Mayela approaches and tells Renata to get her phone because she left it in Guille’s office. After Renata hands it to her, Mayela cunningly reminds Renata that there are statuses and that Renata shouldn’t try to climb up where she doesn’t belong.  Renata secretly thinks, 'Like on TOP of Guille, Bitch'?

At the hospital, the doctor is explaining the process to Javier and Alicia. When Alicia mentions that they now have the money needed, the doctor responds that all they need now is to find a donor that will match. In Javier’s case, the parents are not compatible so they need to find someone else who is willing to donate. As he continues, Beltrino is off to the side thinking about seeing his body earlier in the day. Alicia interrupts his thoughts to tell him that the doctor is leaving. Once alone, Alicia asks Beltrino why he looks so disinterested in what the doctor had to say. Once he assures her that he is interested, Beltrino leaves to go take care of something. Outside the room, Beltrino calls Santos and asks what the other transmigrant looks like. After Santos describes LCJ, Beltrino hisses that the man has his body. Beltrino wants to meet the man NOW and tells Santos to give him his address so they can meet. As Santos sends his location, he sees Death Chick watching him; so he walks slowly past her as he looks back at her.

Santos then walks down the hall to his room and calls LCJ to tell him about the meeting with the other man. As he is about to open his door, the lights flicker. As he slowly opens the door, a bright light engulfs his room as he sees Death Chick waiting for him. When she extends her hand toward him, Santos takes it and she leads him into the room.

At the company boardroom, Eva is tired of waiting for Lucía who has no consideration for their time. As she gets up to leave, Lucía waltzes in (anyone check to see if her jacket was buttoned up correctly?) and tells Eva to sit down…it’s not as if Eva’s time is that valuable. After Lucía excuses herself for being late due to a pending issue, Johny looks at her suspiciously (is her make-up smeared, teeth marks on her ...oh well?). Once the meeting starts, Lucía has her proposal handed out which offers to buy out the rest of the associates. Johny looks at her with a smirk as Eva gives her a kill’er look.

Beltrino arrives at Santos’s hotel as LCJ listens to his message.  LCJ leaves a message for Santos that he will be there ASAP. At the hotel, Beltrino, accompanied by the hotel manager, is banging on Santos’s door and telling him to open the door. When Santos doesn’t answer, Beltrino urges the manager to open the door. Once inside, Beltrino finds Santos laying rigidly on his bed with only the whites of his eyes visible. Betrino breathes heavily as he reaches out to touch Santos, but quickly pulls back his hand as if having received an electric shock.

At the company boardroom, Eva thinks Lucía is crazy. Lucía explains that León was a generous man who liked to have those who helped him build his empire close by making them part of the company…but that is no longer the case. Eva jabs that it’s no longer the case only because Lucía is now there. Lucía gracefully ignores her and continues that they had consultants conduct a review and they recommended that it was the best thing for the company. Eva can’t believe Lucía is doing this. Johny acknowledges Eva’s opinion, but wants to see what the others thinks. When Guille asks about the family, Lucía responds that if there is one thing she has learned, it’s that it’s much harder to conserve a patrimony than to build it. Lucía proposes to obtain 15% of the shares that belong to outsiders to consolidate that with the family’s shares. Johny explains that León owned 55% of the shares; and according to the company statutes, 75% of the shares are needed to make important decisions. Lucía interjects that that is why it is best to globalize the shares and have the family make the decisions. Eva thinks Lucía wants all the control. Cardenas thinks that this is more like a discreet firing. Barretos agrees and doesn’t think León would be in agreement; so he is not going to sell his shares. When Eva insists that Lucía just wants to empower herself to take over the company, Lucía smirks and tells her that she can think whatever she wants. Eva warns that the sons and daughters are not going to make it easy for her. If there is one thing that has worried Lucía ever since León died, it is the children’s patrimony…and that includes her (Eva). After Lucía addresses the three outside associates and tells them to consider the offer because it will benefit them, she stands and makes her cordial exit.

At the hotel, Beltrino grabs Santos and turns him over to reveal that the butterfly tattoo is gone. He quickly goes to the mirror and sees that his butterfly is intact.Meanwhile, on his way to the hotel, LCJ calls Cami to tell him about Santos’s call which seemed somewhat strange. All Santos told him was that he needed to see him right away. Cami tells LCJ that he has received Santos’s test results, but would rather discuss them with LCJ personally. When LCJ insists on a report, Cami tells LCJ that Santos had extremely high levels of everything. LCJ will continue on to the hotel and take Santos back to Cami’s house (in a coffin?). Back at the hotel room, Beltrino is frantically looking through Santos’s things. He finds the phone, but can’t access it because it is locked. Just then the manager comes in and tells him that he shouldn’t be touching anything until the cops get there. After Beltrino slams the manager against the wall, the manager runs out and Beltrino tries to swat the butterfly as he tells it to leave him alone. Beltrino then starts wheezing as he sits on the bed looking through Santos’s wallet, then lays back beside Santos as his hands tremble.

Eva returns to her office and meets with the private investigator she hired to follow Lucía. When he shows her the reports, she asks about a certain day; so the PI tells her that they could only follow Lucía to a certain point because Lucía got off her vehicle and got into another one; his men couldn’t follow any further because the men appeared to be heavy duty narcos. The PI then tells her that there is something else she should note…Lucía made several visits to Johny’s house and they were all at night. Eva knew something was going on between those two!

JudyB, you were missed on the patios today (Tuesday) Hope all is well with you and your family. I know you will be sad and upset about Santos being taken by Death Chick. He was the most sensible, level-headed guy on the show...not pretentious or vindictive, just a good guy.

Good morning Rgv Chick. Yesterday was crazy and I missed being on the patio also. Nothing dreadful. Just LIFE getting insanely busy.

I will miss my Santos but it made me happy that his death this time seemed gentle. Santa Muerte met him as a friend and he took her hand freely rather than resisting. So often at the end, I have seen patients thrashing and struggling before the final breath. But I did not have the feeling that's how it went with Santos. He fulfilled his mission in this life.

Thanks for the screen shots and the witty commentary. This was my favorite:

He replies that she is not thinking straight; (no not THAT kinda straight) there were criminals and she could have gotten shot. They start to argue until Vale asks him who he thinks he is…her father? (uhmm, yeah, he is!)

My station did not show Montilla's scene with Mugres outside the hospital. But loved your opinion that later, in jail, he might have told Mugres Fess up or we won't let you frost your hair.

I hate everything about that particular narco, but ESPECIALLY his hair!

My other fave, Beltrino, was certainly having a hard day. Harassed by Barbara and then confronted by Juliana and hearing some hard truths about himself as a husband and father (although I do remember him promising Lupita a big house with a swimming pool when he made off with the suitcase of cash) Anyway, I do hope he is going to be around for a long while. But given that he has already paid for the transplant, I'm getting worried. Very invested in this rascal.

Hector, who is nobody's fave, is hearing some hard truths also. I remain impressed by the casting though. The young woman playing Hector-Maru looks and acts very macho.

Loved the episode, loved the recap. Our Lucia sure does love playing with fire!

Thank you Ms RGV. Yes Judy, that hair will make Mug a real prize in the pokey.

I want to know exactly how Beltrino thinks he might get his (rightful?) body back if he were ever to manage a face to face with it. He can't exactly just walk up, slap Leon out of it, and hop in, leaving Beltran a crumpled shell like a deflated blow up doll.

NOW we are cooking. Maybe Mugres and his new boyfriend can have a parole weekend and hang with Vale and Juls. Squeeee !

It appears that with Death Chick, you only get one second chance. Poor Santos didn't make it long enough to even get that big club bandage off his hand. Now Ole Beltran is nervous as long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. He has paid for Loopy's hospital stay and Javier's surgery, now he needs to fix things with Juls, then Bye Bye. Hmmm, the ultimate would be for him to pass his whatever on to Javier for his "Transplant'.

Keila never disappoints. Woof woof....OTOH:

Renata shows back up at work in her well worn mating uniform? Pleeeease girl.

Mayela? Looks like it is about time for a real catfight if Guille can not grow a pair and send that stalker packing. Witch is right.

When Lucia oozed into the meeting I waited for Johny to go over and actually sniff her like an inquisitive Beagle.

Thank you, Chickie. Wow. Lots going on.

Lucia does seem to take a lot OF chances . Where is this all going? I cannot see many happy endings.

The name Mugres says it all, doesnt it? So many smarmy guys. Ugh.

And....Death evidently wears a hat.

Well, I am still doggie paddling through my own morass of figuring things out in my new abnormal normal.

WOW

If you guys read or watch the news and have heard the latest testimony from the trial, you'll know that Peña Nieto supposedly accepted $100M in bribes from El Chapo.

This testimony has almost a direct connection to this novela. How the writters knew ahead of time about the allegations again Peña Nieto is so right-on.

RgV Chick, another awesome recap! I'm staying awake now until the recaps have been posted because I appreciate so much the hard work you guys do for us and the recaps are so great and wonderful to read!

JudyB

But what was Santo's mission in life after his first death and transmigration?

Man they do death really realistic in this novela.

Kirby,

Your comment about Beltran is so funny it had me laughing so loud, my husband came up from the kitchen to ask me what was up with me.

He can't exactly just walk up, slap Leon out of it, and hop in, leaving Beltran a crumpled shell like a deflated blow up doll

Victoria, thanks. But in the hospital Beltran looked like ferocious dog chasing a car. But if you just STOP, the dog catches up in a second with the most bewildered look on him/her, as if thinking "WTF? This never happened before."

Victoria, from what I could glean from Santos' comments, his mission was to help those who needed it. He helped LCJ (at the cost of several fingers)when he needed help fleeing the narcos, and he helped Beltrán when he needed help fleeing from the narcos as well. Two very dangerous missions that could have cost him his life in a painful way. Instead he was allowed to die peacefully, taking Santa Muerte's hand.

All this is my perception and interpretation, naturally. As my dear Carlos used to say, opinions may differ.

Thanks you guys for the clarification regarding Santos.

Thanks, JudyB, Victoria, Kirby, Susanlynn, and Anon.

JudyB, I was also relieved that Santos appeared to have a very peaceful death; one he expected and accepted gracefully. Santos also helped many others cross back and forth between Mexico and the "otro lado". From what I can remember, Santos's first death was a result of trying to cross the river over to the US, but I don't know if it was the body that was taken over or the soul who drowned...so he dedicated his life to helping others cross safely.

Kirby, you're on fire (luckily not in the way Karla was on fire :-) Thanks for a good laugh.

Susanlynn, Lucia does seem to be quite daring and presumptuous. I am really starting to dislike her ALOT. It seems like she has completely forgotten where she came from and expects the world to cater to her without question. Yes, she had a rough beginning, but IMO she has improved much in the moral department.

Victoria. it's amazing how so many of these plot lines resemble real life (other than the transmigration part). Makes you wonder, right?

Great work on a great episode!

Mayela watches from the office like an alley cat eyeing its next victim.

This one needs her Karmageddon soon except that there are too many episodes left. She is a stalker. More later.

Sorry to be late to post. Thank you, RGV. My glasses are still steamed up from last night. I noticed you couldn’t or wouldn’t give us all the dialog between Lucí and LCJ as they were congressing in the office. I’ve noticed LCJ breathes heavy and loud whenever he’s 2” away from Lucia. Makes me think he’s all in.

Mayela throwing cold water on Renata’s pipe dream does not bode well. Either she’s feisty and won’t let that come between her and Guille or she will again be filled with self-doubts. I hopeo it’s the former. Let the Catty-Fight begin, Alley cats (sorry, UA, I see Renata as the Alley Cat) are much better at fighting than pampered Persians (Mayela is a snooty as they come).

Santos, We Hardly Knew Ye. You will be missed. QEPD.
