Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, Capítulo 77, Tuesday, January 1, 2019; Julieta is in critical condition, Sebas is repentant—but too little too late

We begin where we left off last time, the tug of war and Ari falling face down in the mud. Temo offers him a hand, but Ari is angry and refuses it and walks off. Diego ask Temo if he wants to play fútbol, but Temo says that Ari offended him and he’s going to take a walk, then go back to his tent and rest.

Susana lets Julieta know she will be on a conference call with the executives and it should not take too long.

Ari is walking along angrily and runs into Julieta. She wants to know what’s wrong and Ari explains that it’s Diego causing the problems. She tells him that he is just jealous that Diego is spending so much time with Temo and it’s normal since they have known each other previously. He apologizes and didn’t mean to “dump” on her, but she tells him it’s fine and to think of her as his “heart doctor.” Pili then interrupts and says it is time for her meditation exercises and she invites him to meditate with her, but Ari says, “No thank you.”

Sebas and David go inside the Lopez tent. Sebas has a plan to bait Julio and scare him. He says the toad will be the perfect bait. Sebas is excited that this is going to be a great video with millions of views. David wants to know who is going to light these fireworks and says, “Fireworks are very dangerous, that is how I got burned.” Sebas starts to unload enough fireworks to demolish a building. With the expertise of a pyromaniac, Sebas hooks the fireworks together with some twine to serve as the “fuse” to set everything off. David says he does not want to take part in this “joke,” but Sebas says he should relax. David watches as Sebas calls Julio to this setup trap. David runs off to get help. He finds Julieta and tells her the whole story.

Julio goes into the tent and starts looking for the toad that Sebas caused to escape, not knowing he is in danger. Outside, Sebas lights the elongated “fuse”. Julieta is on her way, she tells him to go get his father. But Julieta keeps running and enters the tent to grab Julio just as the fire explodes. She covers him, but the fire has blocked the tent entrance and they are unable to escape. David tearfully watched from the outside. Temo is able to make a cut in the tent fabric to slide Julio through. Julieta takes a running start to jump out through the hole just as the tent explodes. Temo and Julio are out on the ground injured. The explosion sends Julieta airborne and she is badly injured. Meanwhile, Sebas is watching with tears in his eyes, totally ignorant to the fact that this was going to be dangerous until he saw it with his own eyes.

Pancho, Robert, and David watch helplessly from several feet away. Robert finds Julieta on the ground, but her head seems to be very injured and is bleeding out the back of her head. Robert asks David to go get his teacher for help. Pancho tries to help his sons. David finds Ari and he goes for help. Ambulances are approaching to transport the injured. Susana comes running up looking for Sebastian, while she is watching the injured loaded on the ambulances.

Catalina is crying at the hospital with Hugo and Diana worried about Julieta’s condition. Ari is also very worried.

Soon some police arrive to investigate the explosion. They want Diana to give her statement. They tell her that the road to Hell is paved with good intensions and they will find out how this fire began. [Well I guess they won’t have to look very far.]

In Axel’s office, he tells his little brother that the boys will be okay. He thinks about how he lit the fuse that set off the explosion. Susana comes running in, worried and anxious about what happened. She asks God to help them (Temo, Julio and Julieta). She hugs Sebas and then he tells her he was the one responsible for the fire. She tells him not to say that because it was an accident. But he is adamant about confessing that he was the one who place the firework there and he lit the fuse so that they could explode.

Susana looks at her son and asks, “Why Sebas, why?” He tearfully tells her that he just wanted to retaliate for what Julio did to him. “I just wanted to scare him with a rocket. I never dreamed that everything would explode like that.” Axel looks at Sebas and tells him this is very serious. Crisanta tells him that fireworks are not toys. Susana blames herself for this mess. Vicente arrives and Sebas confesses that he was the one who started the fire.

At the Córsega apartment, David and Lupita are in the care of Polita, Blanca, and Eugenio. David laments that this is all his fault. Imelda asks, “why do you say that? It was just an accident.” But David explains that this was supposed to be a joke on Julio that Sebas was doing. David didn’t like it, and told Sebas not to do it, so he went to get his mother to intervene. Then the rockets all exploded. Lupita is very upset and says, “You wanted my brother to burn up?” David says, “No, Sesbas really just wanted to scare Julio. But I regretted it right away and went to get my mother and she saved Julio. Now it’s all my fault and she could die.” Everyone looks saddened and concerned.

At the hospital, Julieta is hooked up to medical equipment, receiving a blood transfusion, and is intubated with oxygen. In the background, Robert is watching and thinking thoughts for Julieta’s sake such as “Hold on my love. Remember all the good times we have had and that we need to be together.”

Robert comes out to the lobby where Catalina asks him about Julieta and Pancho asks about his own sons. Robert turns to Pancho and says, “Fortunately, Temo and Julio are stable and are being moved to their own room. Temo has a broken arm and a couple of broken ribs. Julio is practically unscathed, but they are going to run scans on him to make sure.” Pancho says, “Thanks to God and all the angels in heaven!” Ari and Pancho ask when they can see them. Robert says maybe in about an hour, the doctors will let us know soon.

Then Catalina says, “But what about Juli? Is she stable too?” Robert turns to her with tears and says, “No, Julieta is in very critical condition because of a head injury where she suffered brain trauma.” Robert tries to explain that there is a lot of inflammation in Julieta’s brain right now and is under the care of a neurologist. The next few hours will be very critical and a chance they will do surgery to relieve the brain inflammation and save her life. Catalina nearly falls backwards but Tavo is there to help her up.

Back at the Córsegas, Lupita tells David she can never forgive him. Blanca says, “Please don’t be that way, because David went to get help and didn’t want anything to happen. Eugenio agrees that David did the right thing in trying to get help to stop Sebas. Polita then takes Lupe with her to the kitchen to make tea. Frida accompanies them. Blanca then says that she is going to the hospital to see what is going on. Imelda says she will be praying for Julieta and Pancho’s sons.

Audi is in the room and is remembering all the bad things he has done to Ari and Temo. He remembers slapping Ari in the face.

Pancho visits his sons in their room, but they are still asleep from the medication. He says life is very fragile and most fragile for the ones you love. Ari arrives and wants to spend time there too and he goes to sit by Temo. He pleads with him to wake up and get well. He wants to tell the world with him that even though they are different, they can be happy. Behind him, Julio wakes up and says “How is my brother?” Ari runs over to him and tells him about the explosion. Julio remembers that Temo protected him and saved him. Ari also explains to him that Temo has a broken arm and some broken ribs. Julio wants to know why he doesn’t wake up and Ari tells him it is probably the medications. Ari also adds, “Your brother loves you and he risked his life for you.” At that moment, Temo starts to wake up. He looks at Ari’s face and says, “I thought I was in heaven.”  Then he remembers the explosion and asks for Julio. Julio then says, “I’m right here and thank you for saving my life.”

Next thing that Julio remembers is Sebas calling him on his phone to lure him over there. He now realizes that this was something that Sebas did.

Back in Axel’s office, Vicente pleads with Sebas to go back home. But Sebas does not want to go because he has to find out if everyone is going to be okay. Axel tells him that he will be there and give him the news when he gets it. But Sebas knows how critical Julieta is and cries that she is the mother of his best friend. Susana continues blaming herself for not being a good mother. Crisanta tries to comfort her. Susana feels like a failure as a mother because of what her son has done.

In the hallway, Tavo comforts Catalina while Diana and Hugo watch from a few steps away. Hugo hears Tavo say that he loves Catalina and Hugo is shocked. He is so shocked he drops his cup of coffee. “What is the meaning of this?” says Hugo. Catalina says, “Your sister is in very serious condition and Tavo is just comforting me.” But Hugo tries to lunge at Tavo and says he heard “I love you” coming from Tavo. He is incredulous that a younger man could be in love with his mother. Hugo continues with his bad behavior with Catalina reminding him why they are at the hospital. But then Catalina says, “Tavo is just here for my own good right now.” Then she lets him have it. “Octavio and I are in love!” Of course Hugo does not react well to this and tells Tavo, “If you do anything to hurt my mother, you will answer to me!”

Blanca goes to comfort Robert. Then the nurse comes out and tells Robert they are going to remove Julieta’s intubation and she could regain consciousness a few minutes afterward. So he follows her over to the ICU.

In the ICU, they attempt to remove Julieta’s intubation device, but the moment they try, she begins having strong seizures. Medication in her IV stops the seizures. Robert wants to stay there, but they throw him out of the room to the other side of the glass.

Blanca is fretting outside in the lobby. Then Catalina appears saying that if something happens to her she doesn’t want to live.

Vicente, having had a very serious talk with Sebas helps him realize even more the gravity of the situation. He tells him he knows what happens with burned children as he has doctored them himself. He brings Sebas back to Susana and she asks if he is going to take him home back to Vicente’s place. Vicente explains it’s better that he go home with Susana. She tells Sebas that they will deal with all the consequences of his actions together. Crisanta says they can all pray for Julieta

In Temo and Julio’s hospital room, Julio wants to know how Julieta is. He feels badly because she tried to save his life too and he has been very mean to David. Ari explains how serious Julieta’s condition is and how she was thrown with the explosion. He tells them she is unconscious now. Ari thinks about how sweet and understanding Julieta has been with him.

In ICU the doctor explains that the only way to try to avoid brain damage is to induce a coma. If the inflammation does not subside, she will have permanent brain damage. Robert is worried and crushed as he watches his wife on the edge of death’s door.

Another jam packed episode! Hope I got pretty much everything. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you Cynthia and to all our dear patio.

"Robert is worried and crushed as he watches his wife on the edge of death’s door" was the ultimate summary of a devastating episode.

Grim and heart breaking...

This was a very high price to pay for the brothers' reconciliation. They were fortunate to be relatively unscathed.

I wish David had been a bit more forceful toward Sebas, but he wouldn't have listened, would he??

"they will find out how this fire began. [Well I guess they won’t have to look very far.]". No.

Driving to work this morning, I kept thinking what should happen to Sebas. Sometimes, I think guilt is enough, especially for a child to bear. I think in this circumstance, that is not enough. That said, I don't know what the fitting punishment should be.

I cringed watching Lupita tell Dave she would never forgive him.

As Julieta's life hangs in the balance, I am hoping for a quick resolution. For Robert and family and for us.

No sunshine last night but an excellent, thoughtful recap Cynthia.

Your screen shots were simply superb. Thank you.

Diana

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia! We went to a hockey game last night (we won!) and granddaughter is spending the day with me today, so no time to watch my recording of this episode.

(Rhetorical questions...)
Can Viewerville hope tha Sebas has truly learned a lesson?
Will Julio's heart change toward his brother?
Will Susana finally get a clue?
Why didn't Vicente let Sebas go home with him? (Oh, right, that would involve parenting work)
Why isn't Julieta wearing a standard issue telenovela neck brace???

Cynthia, thank you. Your outstanding recap and screen caps really did this episode justice.

Diana, I, too, am hoping for a quick resolution. We are lucky this novela moves at a pretty good pace. As for bratty Sebas, he needs to be under court supervision and in some kind of psychological treatment program but that isn’t really punishment, is it? That is just where he should have been for a while now. Susana and Vicente need to be in a parenting class themselves. They both have been useless. It was rather funny in an ironic sort of way that “preferred parent” Vicente didn’t want to take Sebas home with him.

Trivia:Another actor from Por Ella soy Eva, is Diego played by Nikolás Caballero who played Lalito Elena’s little son. I thought he looked familiar.

Ari really is confused. It looks like Diego is going to help him get “unconfused” one way or the other.

doris, I love your avatar!

doris and Jarifa, I appreciate your comments on Vincente. I thought he brought Sebas to the hospital to see the damage he'd done first hand. So, he just didn't want to bring Sebas home with him. Sigh.

"Ari really is confused. It looks like Diego is going to help him get “unconfused” one way or the other". I could not understand the conversation except Ari told Temo he cared about him? or was it something stronger Jarifa?

Diana

Good Morning!. A grim episode and, Cynthia, you retold it masterfully...and of course, your screenshots are perfect!

Do you all remember how Palomita (on Doble Vida) would say that someone "cae pesado?" Well Sebas is definitely one that "cae MUY pesado!" I was really surprised that he fessed up and admitted what he did. I think an appropriate punishment would be that he would have to pay LOTS of "community service" hours to those he injured...kinda a like a slave! I would be satisfied with that.

I too hope that Juls will come recover quickly. That scene where Robert was watching her having a seizure was scary and heartbreaking. He seemed truly devastated...again, great acting.

Doris, I luurve your avatar too! It is so cute! Where do you get all these cute images?

Jarifa, I think Ari will soon become "unconfused" too. Diana, Ari actually told Temo "Te quiero." That little phrase can mean so many things depending on the circumstances. It can be interpreted as "I love you," "I like you" or "I want you." Now if Ari had said, "Te amo." then we would definitely know that he meant "I love you."

Not So Breaking News! I just read that Gabriel Soto is joining the cast for this TN! He will be a father of three--one girl (a newcomer) and twins (José Manuel and José Pablo who came out in "Mi corazón es tuyo", as ‘Guille’ y ‘Alex’, sons Jorge Salinas.) Veewy intwesting!

Good grief, they sure gave us a ton of drama in this one. Thinking I should start keeping count on how many times a character is hospitalized during these so-called comedies. Carlos used to keep count of the comas, but if we include all hospitalizations, there would be a blue million by telenovela's end.

You did an excellent job of catching the key dramatic screen shots as well as recounting all the action--and reaction. Superb job Cynthia. Thank you.

Doris, I'm just impressed with anyone who can keep changing avatars. I was coached into doing it once, and I've never tried again. Lazy brain for sure.

RgvChick, you are so right about the many meanings of “te quiero”. The Ari plot line is another complex one. I think Gabriel Soto and kids will be a nice addition. I saw “Mi corazón es tuyo” so I will have to keep my eyes open for the twins.

RgvChick, I did hear "Te quiero" but not knowing what else was said, didn't know if I missed something crucial. Thanks for always answering my questions so kindly.

Gabe Soto! Woooo! Can't wait!! OK, but he is way too hawt not to be paired up. Who will be the lucky lady??

I saw Mi corazon es tuyo but have no memory of the twins. I will when I see them I hope.

Diana

Thanks everyone! There was just so much to cover and it really was a challenge to get it all. But I did my best and I had fun with the screen shots.

So is there Juvenile Detention in Mexico? I wonder if Sebas will have to be placed under some kind of Juvenile detention? Will he be charged with a crime?

Jarifa, I agree that Susana and Vicente need parenting classes. Both have been too involved in their careers and have overlooked their children.

I hope Julieta doesn't die....that would just be too sad.

So Gabe Soto is coming to the show? I wonder if he is family or what? I like him and I remember him from Vino el Amor.

Cynthia – outstanding recap! Screen shots and everything!

I was exasperated with Susanna when she wailed to Sebas that it was all her fault.. that she should have been there watching him, to prevent everything, and that she was a terrible mother. Way to teach him responsibility for his actions! At least his dad told him off a little. Mostly he got hugged and petted by everyone, more affection and attention than he’s gotten before. I see a life of crime for him if this keeps up.

I was also amazed about the whole concept of fireworks in a forested area. Here in Southern California if you so much as look cross-eyed at a pine needle, it’ll catch fire and whole national forests burn down, taking nearby homes with them. I live just blocks from the mountains, in a suburb of Los Angeles, and all fireworks are outlawed in the cities lining the mountains. Fireworks IN the mountains? Good grief.

Maggie, I live in a suburb of Los Angeles too and fireworks are allowed in my city because of fundraising. I have been vehemently opposed to the idea for many years because so many illegal fireworks are brought in. Last year a nursing home caught fire. There are way too many fires in southern California. If anyone puts on a fireworks display, it should be in a cleared out area, not in a forest!

Cynthia, thank you for a great recap of this very intense and complicated episode. No light-hearted comedic episode this.

No light-hearted comedic TN this. Poor Julieta is back in a hospital bed, yet again, and most everybody else is behaving badly or is bummed out by others' bad behavior. I'm depressed too.

What can I do to snap out of it? Maybe have some pan Bimbo and a Corona beer. And find images of Juan Osorio on the internet so I can make a decent voodoo doll of him to stick needles in. Many needles.

Some good comments on fireworks near forested areas. I remember all those old Smokey Bear PSA's about a single match being able to burn down an entire forest. Yet people would have fireworks there???

:-)

andy

Thanks, Cynthia. Fine job.

The big revelation for me was how stooopid Hugo is. When Julieta's life is hanging in the balance, Hugo gets ticked off because his mom has a younger boyfriend? Idiot.

Susana needs as much therapy as Sebas does.

I grew up playing with fireworks, under adult supervision, every Independence Day. Even as a kid I knew lighting them in an enclosed space is dumber than dumb. I don't know what the writers have in store for Sebas and Susana to turn themselves around, but I sure hope it involves therapy.

Rgv Chick, ITA on the community service for Sebas.

Jeez, I remember those Smokey Bear commercials too andy! "Only you can prevent forest fires" was the tag line I believe.

I'm just not in favor of fireworks. Beautiful but deadly.

"Mostly he got hugged and petted by everyone, more affection and attention than he’s gotten before. I see a life of crime for him if this keeps up".Hmmm. Good observation Maggie.

Diana

Where are you, Cynthia? I'm in Sierra Madre, right next to Pasadena.

Yes, right next to the Rosa Parade! A propos of all this, my husband is a parade volunteer and is right now working the float viewing. His assigned float: the one that caught fire! He says it's a main attraction.

I'm amazed your city allows fireworks. Even the cities near me that aren't so close to the mountains have outlawed them.

Here when it's fire season(which is most of the time) every time I hear a helicopter I go out to anxiously check the mountains. Parts of my town have been evacuated in the past due to very near fires.

I was astonished that they would even film a fire in a forested area!

I recently bought a Smokey (the 🐻) Bear scarf from National Parks and framed it as a poster. It says “If not you, who?”

Maggie, I live in the City of Downey and around here it is horrible with all the firecrackers on July 4th. It drives me nuts and it smells bad outsite too. But, since organizations such as the school and their football boosters raise a ton of cash, they allow it! It's not so much those fireworks, but it's all the illegal ones that people are using in our neighborhoods. Yet in a neighboring city, Whittier, they are illegal. They are illegal in Long Beach as well.

I don't know what is so fun about fireworks. I enjoy a professional display show, but not having everyone and their pet rock lighting fireworks on July 4th and it happened on New Year's Eve too.

Cynthia - my husband was brought up in Downey! He went to high school there.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Maggie, what a coincidence! How old is your husband? Contact me privately if you would like to.

Thank you all for comments on my avatar. It is just. So. Me, LOL. A friend posted that on Facebook a few years ago, so I made a screenshot for myself.

I remember Smokey --- " Only YOU can prevent forest fires."

Worn out by dear granddaughter today, and I have her again tomorrow, so I'm watching tonight's episode in "real time."

ITA that parents like Susana are what help create criminals. Denial, no consequences, etc. 😐
