Amar a Muerte, 2/18/19 Episode 73: Surprises, Shocks, and Ultimatums

El Alacrán wouldn't take no for an answer. His men were getting restless, as their boss has been demanding unreasonable overtime and Camilo barely got past them as they were watching his house.

Sergio brought Juliana to a place she could stay before leaving for Costa Rica. She was a bit ill at ease as he began mixing drinks. They talked about Lucho, with Sergio explaining that he had family issues in addition to the problem with Valentina. Juliana asked whether it was likely that they would get back together. Sergio talked about Valenina and Lucho's yo-yo relationship and how the two manipulated each other, so who knows? Juliana looked unhappy as she downed a shot of tequila.

Lupita looked at a photo of herself and Valentina, wondering how she could get her back. Pancho told her she would have to accept her. Lupita is still stuck in neutral and about to go into reverse on this, going on about how her life must be cursed. Pancho told her that Juliana's situation is not bad. He tried to explain how gay people are everywhere and he knows of a gay male couple who were recently married. He further explained that Mexico has had gay marriage for eight years. Lupita was very surprised but still has a problem relating this to Valentina. She did promise to work on this, though.

Valentina and Renata were at the police station talking about Guillermo helping the shooting victim. Renata explained that the man doesn't want to see them again. Both are feeling frustrated over the situation. Meanwhile Guillermo was talking to Barretos, who said they would have to locate the weapon to prove that he was not the shooter. His defense will be a nightmare if they don't find it.

Eva didn't want to do the beast with two backs and El Alacrán wasn't happy. He demanded to know what was it with her and she told him she just found out she was pregnant. This is the first time he has ever looked shocked. Two seconds later he asked “We're going to have a baby?” and she said “Who said it was yours?” He's not happy that there is a question about this and she reminded him that she was married and what was she supposed to do? After getting her to admit that she had more sex with him than with Mateo he insisted that the child was his and he was taking charge. He asked again and she said she didn't know. Further, that she wouldn't know until the baby was born. He was not saisfied, insisting that the baby was his and he wouldn't allow Mateo to claim it. He threatened to kill him and Eva – just like in the movies – tried to calm him down by telling him “I know it's yours” and the usual BS to follow. She kissed him, but looked rather desperate to us as she looked away. El Alacrán seemed satisfied until she told him that Mateo must never know. What a PSA for Planned Parenthood.

Mateo attended Susanna's funeral. He knelt at her grave telling her of the irony of this as he had just received the happiest news of his life, that he will become a father. He said he needed her now more than ever. A colleague came over to get him just as Johny arrived with a single flower, which should have wilted from his touch. He and Mateo exchanged hateful looks as Mateo was led away. Johny knelt down to place the flower, then looked up to look at the others. Satisfied with his performance he straightened his jacket and walked away.

Lucia was in her office still in boudoirwear as she received another accusatory text on her cell.
As she started texting back another message followed taunting her with the idea that Leon didn't die after all and that he would return to get revenge. Of course Jacobo wassending this message from an unknown cell phone. Barbara sat down next to him and he told her he was in the middle of something. When he stopped it rang and he shushed Barbara. Lucia demanded to know who this was and what he wanted. He remained silent and she accused him of cowardice, saying he didn't know whom he was dealing with. If he didn't stop he would find out who she really is. When he ended the call he did not look worried in the least.

Renata and Valentina went to the Castillo home where Castillo's sister-in-law told them they were not welcome. They told her that Guillermo was no criminal and all they were there for was to see the video to see the truth. They reasoned that if Guillermo was the shooter why would he have done what he has done for Sr Castillo? The lady looked like she was going to cave and apologized but reiterated her sister's orders.

Pancho tried showing some helpful web pages to Lupita and suggested she talk to a therapist. She was hesitating and then interrupted by a knocking at the gate. It was Beltrino who was not happy to see Pancho there again. He insisted upon talking to her alone. Pancho left them.

Sergio talked on and on but Juliana's attention was elsewhere. When he realized it he paused and whispered that he had a thing for her. She seemed surprised and he said he was surprised she didn't like men. She said “Who said I don't?” and he asked her whether she means she is bisexual. She said she didn't know. He went on about Valentina being pretty but her manipulation, etc. Juliana suddenly kissed him, which came as a big surprised. He asked whether she liked it and she said she didn't know. She then poured herself another drink. He suggested they hit the sheets and she looked agreeable.

Beltrino saw that there was something wrong with Lupita, who then told him that Juliana liked girls. She still thinks she's talking to a college professor and Beltrino certainly didn't react like one. He looked angry.

Lucia got another message about a meeting face to face with her “unknown” stalker. She agreed and asked where. Jacobo headed for the door; Barbara was unable to stop him.

The following morning Juliana woke up next to Sergio, saying she felt bad about having betrayed Valentina. He asked whether she was gay. They had gotten drunk and she was experimenting. She got up and wanted to leave. Sergio wasn't happy but didn't act like a total jerk.

Lupita told Beltrino about having caught Juliana and Valentina kissing. He got angry and blamed her, saying that Juliana was a little girl and her responsibility. His tone and angry expression made Lupita realize whom she was talking to. “El Chino!” she said, looking at him.

Juliana left and walked toward Perlita's when she was grabbed by two of El Alacrán's thugs. They put her in their car and drove off. They had knocked her out somehow and she came to in the back of the car. They then choloroformed her.

Jacobo put on his hoodie and went out to meet with Lucia. She left in her own car despite Fabricio's attempt to get another driver for her.

Johny had the gall to visit Susanna's family and talk about her in glowing terms. He then fake-cried as he gave a check, telling them to count on his help and on that of Sanchez-Bueno, the next president. As he hugged the women his cell rang. It was Fabricio telling him that Lucia had just left without allowing anyone to accompany her. Johny didn't waste any time yelling at him, most likely because he didn't want to be heard.

Beltrino – curiously – asked who was “El Chino” and Lupita answered that he was her ex-husband, who had disappeared. “But who are you?” she asked. “Your guardian angel, as you said.” She questioned him further, saying that he talked like her ex. He tried thinking of an answer as Lupita's cell rang. It was Perlita, telling her that Juliana had been kidnapped. Lupita told her to call the police. Beltrino took off his glasses and the wheels began turning.

El Alacrán was celebrating one thing with some of his men when the others arrived to tell him they had nabbed El Chino's daughter. “Upa!” he cried as one of the others addressed him as “Papa.” Juliana was thrown into an empty room and the door locked.

Valentina kept trying to call Juliana on her cell and got no answer. Mateo came home and they talked about family stuff. She cheered up when he told her she was going to be an aunt...Eva returned anad Valentina hugged her. She wasn't happy that he had told Valentina, but he said “Why? She's your sister!” and fake-smiled after.

Lupita called the police but Beltrino stopped her right after she identified herself. He realized that El Alacrán was behind this and told her he had friends who can help. She wasn't ready to believe this but he swore he would get Juliana back.

Lucia stopped for a red light and realized that Fabricio was following her. She got out of her car and walked back to his to tell him off and to demand the truth. He told her he was following Johny's orders and she reminded him that she signs his paychecks. She told him to go back and do what she pays him to do.

Johny was trying for an Academy Award at Susanna's family's home, putting on the act for her children as well as for the adults. He got up to decompress from his crocodile tears only to run into Inspector Montilla, who notices that he always crosses paths with the law. He said that they are continuing to investigate the source of the deadly substance. Johny told him he was there to see to the family's financial protection. It was doing the right thing. He shook the Inspector's hand and left.

Lucia got to the park and the designated meeting point. She called the unknown number and said she was there; Jacobo approached from behind. He took off the hoodie and was wearing a baseball cap. She confronted him. He denied being Macario Valdez, then asked who was the bigger cheat, himself or her.

El Alacrán demanded that Juliana tell him where her father was. She told him she didn't know and he didn't believe her. He told her that her father owes him and it was in her interests to tell him. She told him she had no idea nor did she even know when he was living in her home. He grabbed her chin, not believing her. She told him “look, you murdered my mother and he didn't appear. You can kill me and he won't appear because nobody is important to him.” Possibly egged on by an accomplice he said “I won't kill you because you're important to El Chino. I'llkill you because I'd love to see you suffer.” He then left the room with his henchman, leaving her alone.

Lucho arrived at the apartment Sergio was going to lend Juliana, making a comment about it being a good place for a party. Sergio told him there were two bedrooms, one with a jacuzzi. Sergio was trying to text Juliana. He didn't want to talk about it – un caballero no tiene memoria – but Lucho grabbed the phone out of his hand and figured out what happened. Sergio refused to talk about it and told him not to tell anyone.

Valentina left a voice mail for Juliana.

Pancho returned and Lupita told him about Juliana. The kidnappers used her cell to call. Beltrino told him to stay put and he would take care of this. He knew that El Alacrán was behind this. Pancho said that El Alacrán was looking for El Chino. Beltrino said he would take care of this. He left them alone.

Lucia demanded to know what Jacobo wanted and said he had no proof she was an embezzler. He didn't want money; he had all the money in the world. He wanted to help Guillermo. He asked if she could believe he was a messenger from Leon, from afar who began falling in love with her. She looked at him as though he were an alien.

Johny chewed Fabricio out.

Lucia told Jacobo she didn't want anything to do with him anymore. He told her that everything he told her was true. She asked about his wife and daughter and he told her she would understand that in time. She said she wanted no more lies. He told her that the lies she hears are from Johny and she would go away with him when she knew.  He told her "My plan to go away with you is still in play."

Comments:
Thank You Urban. Lucia is not much of a manager. She should have marched back to fabricio, fired him on the spot, ordered him out of HER car, demanded the keys, and parked it herself and locked it up.

These people are not much of managers. Johny too. Hire new security, and take Johny OFF the front door list. For the time being, that is legally HER house, and everyone is either an adult child, guest, or employee.

More tomorrow
Thanks again

Kirby: Not shocked Juliana slept with Sergio.

I guess she's moved on from Vale.

UA: Johnny needs Best Actor in the Oscars.

Pre-coffee typos

Good Morning, and on the other end of the management spectrum, is there any doubt that Alacran would not have shot Fabricio long ago if he were on the goon team?

And speaking of shooting, too bad that Alacran wonders if he is the Daddy. That one time with Mateo, was Pena still President then? So Prob not his.

Do you think Sergio mentioned to Juls the similarities to riding a bicycle, in that it starts off kinda shaky but gets much better with practice, lots of practice, AND that once you pick it up, you for sure never forget how?

When oh when, are we going to see someone take that smarmy patronizing fake smile off Johny's face? Hopeofully with a welding torch. Johny with Susana's Sis, Mom and kids put TVs everywhere in grave danger. I think Montillo is onto Johny. Johny was blabbering away, spewing his constant stream of lies, and Monty was, 'Uh huh....um...Hm... and that was about it. I am convinced that Johny does not work or have any hobbies or leisure activities or even sleep for that matter. He is up everyones's ass 24 / 7.

Is that the sane room Lupita was kept in? Too bad she didn't scribble some graffiti there like 'Kilroy was here', or something ya know? Mother daughter bond needs something to lighten it up a bit.

Pre-coffee typos... I can relate. I shouldn't post before my first caffeine of the day, which is usually PG Tips tea. It's seriously strong.

Montilla is a latter-day Columbo. I hope when we get to Johny's Karmageddon he mentions the clues that came out of his arrogant mouth.

I feel seriously bad for Eva's baby. Since Alacran is likely to be the sperm donor I thought of a line from an episode of The Sopranos when Richie Aprile knocked up his "girlfriend.": I suggest you get an abortion; you'll be doing the next few generations a big favor.

However, we know that won't happen now that Mateo knows she is pregnant and thinks the baby is his.

UA, what an exceptional recap, thank you! Too many favorites to list them all, but here are just a few:

"Lupita is still stuck in neutral and about to go into reverse on this"
"Eva didn't want to do the beast with two backs"
"Johny arrived with a single flower, which should have wilted from his touch."
"He got up to decompress from his crocodile tears"

Kirby, ITA with you about TVs being in danger when Johny showed up with his sorry, two-faced intentions. If I didn't like this show so much, I would have dropped it just because of him...he is everything Victoria has said about him to the umpteenth degree. Just hateful and sickening.

Lupita comes a close second as the most irritating person on the show. I'm so fed up with her crying and whining. She is just pitiful to watch.

Now that I have that off my chest--

Kirby, I do like your idea from yesterday about the baby killing Eva while crawling back in. Once she is dead, I'm sure the baby will high-tail it outta that black hole.

One of my favorite scenes was when Sergio was describing his friendship with Lucho. He compared Lucho to a dog who insists on peeing on the carpet...eventually the owner gets rid of it. Hehehe...points for Sergio!

LCJ just infuriates me sometimes...he still wants Lucia to run off with him??? Seriously? I reeeally hope that LCJ is just continuing with his revenge plan.

RGV your TeleNovio Ojos Azul is either doing a helluva job acting around Lucia or he has learned ab--sol--uoot--lie NUTTIN from his death/back/almost dead again experiences.

The only way I could be halfway OK with that is if he made amends with his children, helped put Eva in prison for eternity, patched things up with Lucia and settled down, then Death Chick said, "Nice Job, Sparky, you're done, now come with me."

UA--Another great romp through UALALALANDIA, served up to us definitely not as segundo plato. First rate, my dear, hot off the press. Thank you.

RGV and Kirby--Can't help it, still wanting LCJ to pull a rabbit off a dinner plate and reform Lucia, just by looking at her. WHY won't he just tell her the whole bit? Oh, I can answer my own question. She's so spitting mad she won't believe him anyway, so he feeds her little bits, like--can you consider that I'm a messenger for Leon, from mas alla. That should give her something to reflect on. I hope she doesn't go running to Johny with her encounter with LCJ.

Kirby--Ojos Azul did admit to Luci that he was a messenger from Leon but ended up falling in love with her. I think he was telling the truth there. I don't think it is within him to kill her for her betrayal. He's still conflicted. P.S. He looks yummy in casual attire and a baseball cap as well as his chauffeur uniform.

I wonder what Luci is expected to DO to get Guille out of jail. And--we still haven't heard what this favor is he has come to ask her.

We sure got an extensive PSA on homosexuality and the law. El Chino and Lupita grew up (maybe) in San Antonio, TX. Texas is a state with conservative values where same-sex marriages are still banned, but has Lupita had her head inside a trailer oven for the last 18 years or what? The U.S. has been undergoing a great upheaval with regard to rights and privileges for LGBTQ community, civil unions and same-sex marriages. It's not like it didn't exist until Mexico allowed it. From what I read rapidly, same-sex marriage is allowed in certain states (as in the U.S.) but recognized as valid in all.

Johny at his worst. Loving it. He just HAS to be exposed publicly and hauled off to be pilloried with plenty of baskets of rotten tomatoes nearby.

RGV Chick: Johnny's got something sinister planned for Matteo though. I can bet you he's not done upping the ante & adding to the Body Count.

Kirby, yeah, my telenovio seems to not have learned anything. What irks me is that he is more focused on Lucia than on his kids. The only time he actually does something to help them is when they are just about to fall apart or get busted...which is usually too late to stop the sh*t from hitting the fan. Here we have a man who supposedly built a multi-million dollar business and helped make Mexico greater, but he is completely stuck on Lucia and, IMO hasn't done much other than scare the heck out of Johny and Lucia with his anonymous notes. Maybe if we knew what his revenge plan is, we could be more patient and understanding of his nonchalant attitude. I am still, however, fascinated with them blue eyes; and I agree with Anita, he looks good in just about anything...and probably even more so, in nothing! LOL

Anita, I'm not sure that I want LCJ to reform Lucia. She may not have been in on the plan to kill Leon at her wedding, but she has done nothing to expose Johny and shei s still continuing with Johny's paln to overtake the Carvajal Company. I keep thinking of the song they play when Lucia thinks about her "moments" with LCJ. A very pretty song, "Amor, Asi es Amor" might be the title but I haven't been able to find the entire song online or who sings it. Anywhooo, I can't help but picture Lucia dead at the end with that song playing. I'm probably wrong, but that's the image I get whenever they play that song as Lucia is being nostalgic.

Good Points RGV. I tend to forgive those Ojos Azules anything. We definitely agree that despite Camilo's urgings, he hasn't been deterred from revenge and, yes, he's spent more time directing his attention towards Lucia (for our benefit, too) than on his kids. A few talks with Guille, a few hugs for Vale, and virtually nothing for Eva isn't enough to reverse the damage. I wonder what he's going to feel when he learns he's going to be a grandfather, followed by a DNA test on the baby, demanded by El Alacran. Of course, we know this tn isn't going to last 8 more months, so there we are. (And they'd better not dare give us an ocho meses despues.)

Unless Eva has a miscarriage (or an abortion misrepresented as one) we will have to FF to the birth and the DNA test. I don't think the Mexican audience would forgive the writers if that were left out.

No problem if it's Mateo's child, provided he survives. However if it's a baby scorpion, what then?

Leaving the baby scorpion aside, I thought the goons conversation during their stake-out was interesting. After observing this male-only household and the occasional girl-party, wthere were the other women? We’re these guys all single? Now we find out that Gancho is married and has children but he’s away so long his youngest doesn’t even recognize him. The other goon reminds him they are sicarios. Well spoken. Gancho is tired of it. When he got out of the car, it made me wonder if that’s part of why he’s playing informant. He secretly wants to bring down the cartel, without getting himself fingered. He sure was jealous of their boss being able to have his mujer whenever he wanted her.

I meant to add that I guess sicarios don’t get Sundays off.

Thanks Urban, snappy title and lots of great lines. My fave Belchino showed his ugly Chino side in this one, blaming Lupita for Juliana turning out "torcida". But I still love his steely humor, as in, while glaring at Pancho who was leaving to run an errand...TAKE. YOUR. TIME. That's my man, still fending off the other dogs.

As a card-carrying sentimental fool, I was all misty when LCJ told Lucia he was a messenger from Leon who had fallen in love with her. Awwww...just work it out kids. And then get hapless Guille out of jail.

Not gonna happen though. Thanks all. Great recap, great discussion.

Thank you, UA. I also enjoyed all the comments. I see no happiness for any of these people. Well, maybe Jul and Val , Pancho and Lup, and Ren and Guille.

I am late to the party due to geting errands accomplished before the next wintry mix event that is supposed to arrive tomorrow about 10am and hang around until Thursday a.m. Ugh..so sick of snow and ice.

SusanLynn, the O N L Y fun thing I have ever seen having to do snow involved snowmobiles.

Cars and snow are no fun. You seldom see any swimsuits around snow either.

Well, my daughter's school has already closed tomorrow due to the forecast, so I don't have to worry about her getting to school or home.

Urban
Montilla is a jerk of an Investigator. Anyone but him seems to be able to see directly in his eyes to see he is a lier lier pants on fire.

Victoria: Consider Montillo might just be a dam good poker player.

That is what I am hoping anyway.
