Friends, Carayers, Anons, Lurkers, Lend Me Your Minds…
Labels: announcements, betty, ley2, mimarido2, reina-sur, telemundo
I like the sidebar. Looks like some changes have been made. I did wonder, however, if there were any interest in showing photos of recappers when you scroll way, way down. There are, I think, two now. Maybe people don't want their pictures on the internet, but I sort of liked seeing them.
It's kind of frustrating that, to me at least, it appears that we get people who log on and read stuff but never put anything up. Would appeals for more comments work at all? Or maybe you've done that on the Uni pages and I didn't see it.
It would be so easy for people who look at the blog to just write a sentence or two; i.e., hated the blue dress Character X was wearing. Or...wow, that was surely a shallow grave the villain put the old lady in.
In regards to the photos of recappers, I suspect that most of the recappers have deleted the original photos they submitted for display; thus the links are "broken." We will probably be doing away with the photos eventually.
I'm not sure how or how often appeals for more comments should be made. The only time I, personally, did that was when I was posting the discussion pages for "La Bella y Las Bestias." At the bottom of each page I would write:
Where mockery, snarkery and just plain talkery abound!
Share your thoughts and your hearts, you won’t be bored!!
If done that way, it would be up to each recapper to make the appeal. If you have any ideas for making an appeal through the main page, please do share :-)

I would hope that people would start commenting more but other recapping sites have proliferated, the offerings on Univision have decreased and so it goes. When I go back and read the commnents on Soy tu dueña or Mañana es para siempre I am just amazed at the number of funny, insightful exchanges. But that was then, this is now. Things change.
Do thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping this site going. For me, it's like therapy!
Anon 4:46, I do hope that Stevey continues to provide us with information on upcoming telenovelas. The information Stevey provided was quite entertaining and very appreciated.
JudyB, Kat may have taken down the photos from the sidebar, but I did find some photos stored on the Blog. What might be able to be done is to provide a "Gallery of Recappers" if that is something that members would enjoy seeing. I don't know, however, if there are photos of every recapper.
It is a tricky mental and visual gauntlet. One I have seen is the maddening identification of pictures with street signs. Then they throw in one where a street sign is on a house or business and after putting on your glasses and sweating you are still unceremoniously bounced back to the end of the line to start over.
When that used to happen to me after a time or two I would just decide to go to ebay or Amazon instead.
For a long time Caray has been in the what appeared to be survival / sustaining mode.
That has changed, as evidenced by this page.
You do write some downright hilarious stuff.
Blue Lass, my apologies. I have read your recaps and comments and they are very entertaining and impressive. If you will send me a photo (or one that you would like displayed to represent you), I will include it in a Gallery of Recappers. Thank you for bringing that up!
Steve, glad you are still here :-)
Jarifa, yes, I hope visitors read that page. It is very rewarding to be fed with warm fuzzies and hopeos.
The closed captions I get from Univision via my cable provider are a mess, so recapping would be an absolute nightmare for me. No other network has his problem, just Looneyvision. AT&T U-Verse must hate Univision, or vice versa.
The decline and ultimate loss of Telenovelaworld.com was sad, because we lost the old information database (as such) for older telenovelas with it. I would be sad to lose Caray!Caray! and the Patio of Lowered Expectations.
I truly appreciate our recappers. Thank you!!! ♥♥♥ I've done only a few recaps as a sub, and know it is work.
Bullet point recaps are my favorite, because I don't always have time to read a full complete recap of the day's episode. Sometimes I have to skim over a recap and miss important stuff. So if you are ever considering recapping, it does not have to be extensive.
Caray! Caray! will continue on, but we would like to see an increase in recappers and commenters. It just gives us more variety and satisfaction in what we try to offer.
Each recapper has his/her own style. Extensive detail is certainly not a requirement. What matters is that viewers have a place to discuss, offer their perspectives, ask questions, and get clarifications of events they may be confused about. As novelera indicated above, comments don't have to be extensive either; a simple thank you to the recapper(s) and/or a short sentence about the show suffices. Recappers like to know that their work is worthwhile and appreciated.
I think the present drop is because no studio is producing good telenovelas anymore. Just Narco novelas, one after another.
I hope I hope that Rgv Chick and Kirby come on board for PASL. I live their recaps.
Can I start a petition?
So:
I, too, have found this forum fun, exercise for my brain, forming virtual companions and time well spent. You might not know this, but we had a reunion several years ago in the Mid-Atlantic region (well DMV to be exact), where we got to meet each other in the flesh. It turns out we were quite compatible and very much like our comments!!!
I like the idea of a Famous Quotes page and a separate Rogues' Gallery page.
IF and it is a big IF or WHETHER we get more people willing to recap, we could cover more telenovelas, including daytime (En Tierras Salvajes to name a current one). It's a huge commitment of time. But nowadays, we have the luxury of anticipating stories with fewer episodes, 100 or less. Some of the old ones ran up to 250 episodes. It shouldn't be impossible to find 5-7 people who are willing to commit to aid in the endeavor for the pleasure of our community. There are lots of rewards, virtual and otherwise.
I would like to see more ANONs come out and be recognized. We addressed this issue before quite awhile ago (and in part resulted in the "Care and Feeding, etc.). It was suggested that everyone must register with Blogger, but it was decided we didn't want to keep anyone away, but each individual recapper could request the anons to choose a screen name to distinguish among the other anons. It doesn't have to be one's own name. We have one commenter who picked Anon207! But at least we know who that is each time. A lot of us started out that way.
Checking the "Name/URL" does not expose your life history to the world--it just offers you a shortcut--we have some of those, too (but not on this page at this time).
Also, if you want to avoid the Captcha Time-waster, you can register with Blogger (see above all the orange B's in front of our names. A minimum of information is required--an e-mail address.
As for Stevey--I will get in touch with him and find out what he is up to. His silence is unusual. I became his contact after Vivi in DC went inactive. We jointly produced the three-part overview of upcoming shows in the fall of 2017. I am also remiss in not posting the current and just finished telenovelas on a page titled "Weekend Discussion: Producers' Filmographies" from 2013 (last updated in 2015). It got to be a lot of work, but I'm inspired to go back and bring it up to date--ESPECIALLY after Amar a Muerte walked off with so many of the Premios. (P.S. Remember that Uni is broadcasting the Premios on Sunday, March 17, 8-10pm.)
Anyway, last word on the photos. I remember when Melinama asked me to submit a photograph--it was 2014. Because my screen name is Anita, I ended up at the top, rather than mixed up somewhere in the middle. It was an honor I really didn't want, but I was told it went strictly in alphabetical order. Those photos were there for more than a year. Maybe even three before the ones that are gone disappeared, including mine. I had nothing to do with requesting taking it down.
Looking forward to more suggestions and more conversation.
It would be great to know what Stevey is up too.
I miss Vivi and her amazing brain.
So many have gone by the wayside.
You are correct; there isn’t a dearth of shows, but there are a number of shows that do not appeal to several members. We do not measure success by the number of comments. The number of “views” for a page is not displayed and they far outnumber the comments; so we do know that people are, at a minimum, viewing the posts. To the public, though, it appears that the number of visitors has diminished…thus the questions and concerns about whether Caray has moved or its success.
As I’ve stated before, I have only been on Caray for a couple of years. I don’t know why the Anon feature was initially used, but I do know that when I started commenting, I would use that feature simply because I was “shy” and didn’t want to be recognized. I think that many of the Anons that post currently probably use it for the same reason…but that’s just my opinion.
Thank you for stopping by.
Thanks
I have been lurking and commenting for years, but not often enough (in my opinion) to sign in, etc. I'm just one of the many "Anons" who swoop in and out and comment in "drive-by" fashion. But I very much appreciate and admire the stellar recaps from our hard-working group. I remember one time we somehow ended up writing limericks about the tn. I believe it was during "La Tempestad."
There are some actors (Marjorie Sousa; Sabine Mouissier; David Zepeda and others) and producers (Mejia; Osorio; Lartilleux) that I can't stand and refuse to watch, but I always check in with the Patio to see if it's worth my time. Sometimes I get roped in, as with Mi Marido, but just barely. And sometimes I like to read the recappers' views when the show is really bad (El Talisman, anyone?) and the comments are hilarious.
Jojo - the lurker
The page will be closed shortly since there is sufficient information to get us started in making improvements to the main page. If you have a suggestion burning in your mind, please feel free to email me.
Thank you, everyone, for your valuable input!!
