Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 7/26/19 Gran Final: A Thicken in Every Plot

Part 1 of 3: You get a backstory! And you! And you! Everybody gets a backstory!

1.1 Reclusorio of Long Time No See

Javier is sitting pensively in the interview room when an unkempt older gentleman shuffles in and opens with the immortal line, "Que haces aqui?" (It's not too late for bingo!) Javier tells him he needs his help. He's been working for a law firm that is finally teaching him a glimmer of the beginning of the meaning of the word teamwork (I must have missed that scene), but they've been brutally attacked. The perpetrator, El Ciego, has tentacles in all manner of official organizations, most notably in the jail. He needs to find out exactly who's involved.

Scruffy Guy: Why me?

Javier: Because you're my father.

Scruffy Guy: Well, you are not my son. You stopped being my son when you left me here alone.

Javier says he's the only one he can turn to, but his father is unmoved: Fix it yourself. As he leaves, he picks up his glasses from the table, puts them on, gazes intently at Javier and says, "Thank you for your visit. But it's better if you don't come back."

1.2 Warehouse District of Doom

El Ciego and his nounkicks arrive and position themselves for their photo shoot in Guns'n'Ammo. The police, led by Quiroz, appear quickly with sirens blaring and pull out their weaponry for the inevitable showdown. El Ciego pretends he's going to surrender, then ducks around the back of the car and pulls out a pistol...and off we go.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Miercoles 7/24/19 Episode 89: Showdown

Scenes left in order to avoid confusion.

Fernanda hit the truth jackpot when she caught Tatiana with an bald older man in an expensive suit. In other words, a client. She pulled her back and slapped her hard, telling her to stay away from Juan and Susanna. Tatiana demanded to know who she was and she told her that Susanna was her friend and that she loved Juan. “Any further contact with them and you will have to deal with me.” Tatiana tried to laugh at her, shoving her back. Fernanda didn't take that one and shoved her back toward her client, who restrained her as Fernanda called her a mujer suela. Tatiana yelled that Fernanda had no right to insult her and that what happens between herself and Juan was none of her business. Fernanda accused her of going after Juan for his money, followed by Tatiana boasting that she didn't need his money. Of course, Fernanda came back with seeing who she is getting money from.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Martes 7/23/19 Episode 88: Deadly Women

I'm Christopher Mason. There is one weapon that is often used in a more deadly way by women: Words. They can be used to melt hearts or cut through egos the way knives cut through steak... or flesh. What could be worse than hearing an insult while being sent to hell?

I'm Candice Delong. In the criminal world women usually take a back seat to men in terms of violence. However, certain weapons can be equalizers, especially when used in cold blood. There is a glass ceiling in crime just as in corporations, and only the coldest will shatter it.

Gustavo broke the embrace and turned away from Lorena. She apologized, then said she could not see him go off the deep end when he was a man of strength, passionate about his work, and always hoping to make things better. Also that he was a great lawyer, interesting, etc. He didn't know what to say to her. She said he didn't need to say anything. She loved his great heart and how he fights for his clients. She wanted him to be happy again. He said he didn't know how. She took his hand and said that life is about good things and it would come back a little at a time.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 7/19/19 Episode 85 (and possibly 86): In Bad Company

San Diego:

Adrian determines that Jorge has no priors, is at the university on a scholarship, and did not take any money for this one-time collapse of common sense. Also the stowaways have already been deported, so hey, no blood no foul. He is optimistic but tells Jorge he must plead guilty. Since he totally did it, this shouldn't be a stretch.

Jorge is transferred to a larger prison, which freaks out Mami, but Adrian tells her it's actually good news: it means the Vega Magic has managed once again to secure them a wicked fast court date. His meeting with Jorge in the exercise yard is overheard by a tough-looking bald dude with a cigarette, but it's hard to tell if he's a plot point or just local color.

Depa Carlos:

Carlos is heading off to work when El Ciego slips in like a stray cat. He seems inexplicably delighted that El Gringo called him up on his own phone to threaten him. Where might he have gotten that number, hmm? After Carlos goes upstairs to get him some sudsy money from the safe, El Ciego looks like he's about to cough up a hairball.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Miercoles 7/17/19 Episode 84: Three Blondes

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Mexico City: Roberto got on Adrián's case for having concealed his green-card marriage and warned him not to mess with Victoria's feelings. Adrián asked who Roberto was to appoint himself in charge of this. Roberto cited the usual reasons. Adrián finally told him that the reason for Debbie's visit was their divorce. Now that he is free yes, he intended to begin a relationship with Victoria, who was aware of all this. He further told Roberto that Victoria can take care of herself and didn't require his protection or anyone else's. This made it obvious to him that Roberto was in love with Victoria. Roberto said that it was none of his business. They argued about each other's honesty, ending with Roberto repeating his threat on his way out.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Martes 7/16/19 Episode 83: Eye of the Storm

I'm Christopher Mason. When people have things to hide, it blunts their weapons. This is not always a bad thing, but it often leads to postponing the inevitable and the inevitable being worse. Faust is running away from one devil and is sleeping with the accomplice of another, which is putting his own life in danger.

I'm Canice Delong. The only certainties in life are death and taxes. Criminals don't pay taxes but cartels love dealing in death. Carlos was now caught between two of those, not to mention sleeping with the enemy.

Mexico City: Michelle and Nancy fought over Carlos. Nancy was determined to protect Carlos from what she still didn't know about Michelle, who saw a jealous rival who didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting him. She said “It will not suit you to make threats. Carlos would never take a slut like you seriously.”
Nancy slapped her and got slapped back. Michelle said “You don't know who you're dealing with.” Nancy wasn't afraid of her, saying that she would uncover the truth about her and reveal all to Carlos. Michelle wasn't the least bit worried about this. She threatened to tell Carlos about this incident and Nancy would be out of a job. She walked out.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 7/12/19 Episode 81: Honesty Ad Nauseam

Prelude
To be honest, the PASL transmission was interrupted several times in the beginning, with the screen going black. Fortunately those blackouts occurred when Carlos and Michelle were on screen.

To be honest, Roberto continues to deny, in the face of his closest friends, that he is in love with Victoria. He’s perplexed by Vic’s refusal to believe his honesty and sincerity and accepts Adrián’s explanation without batting an eye (oh, wait, she did bat her eyes, several times). He does admit that during the time he stayed in Vic’s apartment he felt at peace, caring for her, protecting her. Ric and Gus think it’s love. Bobby isn’t sure if that is love. Love shouldn’t hurt or hurt others—look at his parents. Ric says love is not the problem, it’s the people. Bobby sure needed that drink with his buds.  He leaves them early because he’s heading to Monterey the next morning.

To be honest, Juan believes he must fulfill Tatiana’s every spoken whim thinking that will make him a more important looking man. After seeing that sport car take off she remarked on what a sharp looking car that was, worthy of Juan, though she added Juan is more handsome. He checks his finances at home and takes the first opportunity to go back to the car dealer for a trade-in. Though staggered by the sticker price, Juan plunges headlong into the driver’s seat and mounting debt. Mamita will not be pleased with her little boy (but I bet Tatiana will be).

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Mexico City: Debbie insisted on waiting for Adrián in reception rather than accept Roberto's lunch invitation.

At that same moment Adrián was explaining to Victoria that when he had finished his studies in Philadelphia he had received an irresistible job offer. However, his visa was about to expire and his best friend – Debbie – offered the marital solution. He wasn't proud of having done this but it was the only solution at the time.

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Mexico City: El Chulo told Alan that he needed to get used to this as he continued beating the living daylights out of him. Alan fell to the floor, bleeding from the mouth and facial injuries. The same guard who had eavesdropped on him before arrived and told him that this was because he wasn't obeying the rules of the cellblock. The other prisoners continued to kick Alan; the guard did nothing to stop them.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Martes 7/9/19 Episode 78: Blood Relations

I'm Christopher Mason. Betrayal by family members is the most painful human experience. Not even the loss of a romantic partner matches the pain when a sibling, a parent, or a cousin betrays. Alan's envy and resentment of Carlos was not a constructive force in his life and it is likely to lead to his ultimate downfall.

I'm Candice DeLong. Most murders happen within families

Mexico City: Sonia reminded Alan that when they are in court she will say that he killed Particia Linares and Augustín Téllez and that his cousin has petitioned to reverse the sentencing of Pedro, which he was also involved in. He said she could help him. She said she could ...if he had something to tell her in exchange.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Lunes 7/8/19 Episode 77: The Front Page

Mexico City:  Carlos shouted at Nancy to make all evidence of El Ciego disappear. She told him that this was impossible but he was not being reasonable. She finally fled from his office.

Alan's picture was on the front page. Alonso showed it to Roberto and Juan, who noted that if Téllez had been extorting money from Alan, he must have known something. Alonso said that this must be very hard on Carlos. Roberto then noticed Juan's new watch. Alonso advised him to think of the future before buying any more luxuries, like first buying a house. Roberto seconded that and Juan thanked them. Then he and Roberto left Alonso's office to look into Alan's case.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 7/5/19, Episode 76: The Wheels of Justice Turn, Albeit a Bit Squeaky

What follows are the encapsulated stories for this episode, in order of appearance.

*1. Carlos, Alan and El Ciego are going to work it out.
Carlos had bribed a jail guard to leave him alone with Alan. Even as he’s getting beaten to a pulp and nearly strangled by Carlos, Alan denies culpability in having killed Patricia, in spite of the recordings Sonia presented at his trial. [Time out for a big question. I’ve put in a call to Candice deLonge and reached out to my cell phone provider, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet. How is it possible for Sonia to recover voice mails left for Alan on Tellez phone? Those voice mails would have been on Alan’s phone, no? It’s a stretch to believe Tellez would have made recordings of his own threats and revelations on his own voice-mail and kept them. The closest I can come to an answer, technologically, is if I pick up the phone and answer while the calling party is leaving a message. And that happened in the olden days with answering machines on a land phone. If it still happens with cell phones, I’m unaware. In this case, Alan never answered the phone. Oh well, until I get an answer, I’ll put my beanie on for this one.] Finished with Al, leaving him bloodied on the floor in pain, Carlos leaves the room. Maybe he feels better after the beating, but probably not.

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Jueves 7/4/19 Episode 75: A Killer Revealed

I'm Christopher Mason. The truth is a strange thing with varied appeal. We all seem to value it but it is sometimes very inconvenient. Some people can't face it, others deny it, and others delight in revealing it... especially when it's ugly and shocking.

I'm Candice DeLong. In my time with the FBI I've seen many people avoid the truth like a plague. Criminals especially. And when those criminals can hide behind respectable masks the truth becomes their worst enemy.

Mexico City: “Alan is innocent,” Carlos told El Ciego. “Like you or me?” he asked. “Tell me what is happening.” Carlos' face said he didn't want to.

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Nancy came into Carlos' office with information that the police have about Alan's car having been serviced. The report described rear-end dents. Carlos said that this proved nothing, but Nancy told him that if Alan doesn't tell the entire truth they would not be able to provide an effective defense. Carlos pointed out that Alan was too weak to do something like this. [Which shows that he didn't really know him.]

Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 6/28/19 Episode 73: Tea and Sympathy

Boston:

Diego Molina gets hauled off to ICE detention and left there for about 10 minutes before they come to haul him out again. He grips the corners of his enclosure like a cat in the vet's office, but the agents manage to dislodge him and drag him away while the other detainees swat at them ineffectually with their space blankets.

Out on the Town:

Juan takes Tatiana to a romantic movie -- I'm betting she chose that one herself -- and then climbs all over him in the car as usual. (Has she even noticed he never makes the first move?) Juan continues to look at her like a tacky prize he won in the ring-toss: he isn't sure it's actually worth anything, but he's pretty damn proud of himself all the same.

Bufete Ibarra:

Carlos tells Nancy to get all the news that's fit to snatch about what the police have on Alan. Both plan to lie about Alan's whereabouts on the fateful night: Carlos will say he was with him, and Nancy will say she saw them together. Nancy's Biscuit comes up with one damning piece of information: they know about the strange bumps on Alan's car. Ruh-roh.
