Friends, Carayers, Anons, Lurkers, Lend Me Your Minds…

Greetings, One and All!

It has been noted that the number of recappers and members appear to have decreased; and we would like your opinions and ideas as to how to make Caray, Caray more appealing and productive. We come to improve Caray, not to derail what Melinama has so generously and graciously built.

Please share with us your thoughts and constructive criticisms. What is it that you like, don’t like? What pages do you find useful/not useful (check out the sidebar; there are some pages that have never been used or commented on). Give us your wishlist! Please note that any changes will take some time; so please be patient with us.

You may post your thoughts and ideas in the comment section or, if you prefer some privacy, please e-mail me at rgvchick627@gmail.com.

Comments:
I usually go right to Telemundo because those are the shows I watch. We've had a real dearth of commenters lately for Telemundo because the evening prime time shows consist of a knockoff of American Ninja Warrior, another Betty, and re-runs of La Reina del Sur. We expect traffic to pickup when La Reina del Sur 2 begins on Monday, April 22.

I like the sidebar. Looks like some changes have been made. I did wonder, however, if there were any interest in showing photos of recappers when you scroll way, way down. There are, I think, two now. Maybe people don't want their pictures on the internet, but I sort of liked seeing them.

It's kind of frustrating that, to me at least, it appears that we get people who log on and read stuff but never put anything up. Would appeals for more comments work at all? Or maybe you've done that on the Uni pages and I didn't see it.

It would be so easy for people who look at the blog to just write a sentence or two; i.e., hated the blue dress Character X was wearing. Or...wow, that was surely a shallow grave the villain put the old lady in.

Thanks for your input, Novelera. I do wish you luck and an increase in commenters on the Telemundo page(s). I agree about the consistency of the prime time shows. I could say almost the same about the prime time shows on Univision...TN's are just not what they used to be.

In regards to the photos of recappers, I suspect that most of the recappers have deleted the original photos they submitted for display; thus the links are "broken." We will probably be doing away with the photos eventually.

I'm not sure how or how often appeals for more comments should be made. The only time I, personally, did that was when I was posting the discussion pages for "La Bella y Las Bestias." At the bottom of each page I would write:

Where mockery, snarkery and just plain talkery abound!
Share your thoughts and your hearts, you won’t be bored!!

If done that way, it would be up to each recapper to make the appeal. If you have any ideas for making an appeal through the main page, please do share :-)

RGV-I'll communicate via e-mail, but just so you know, we did not request our photos to be taken down. One day they were there and the next they were gone.

Ok, Anita. I will await your e-mail. Don’t know what could have happened to the photos, then.

I am a long time lurker. I love this site. I will do my part going forward to contribute, not just enjoy
Mely

I hope we can someone like Stevey and give us scoops of upcoming telenovelas in Mexico

Kat took the photos down of anybody who was not currently recapping when she was redoing the site for Melinama. I think Jane missed those photos also. It was a nice reminder of all the people who have recapped over the years. But those photos are gone now.

I would hope that people would start commenting more but other recapping sites have proliferated, the offerings on Univision have decreased and so it goes. When I go back and read the commnents on Soy tu dueña or Mañana es para siempre I am just amazed at the number of funny, insightful exchanges. But that was then, this is now. Things change.

Do thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping this site going. For me, it's like therapy!

Mely, welcome!! and thank you for your contribution. I was hoping some lurkers would "speak up" so we can have their perspectives too. Brilliant minds think alike, but they also have differing opinions and that is what makes Caray so special and interesting. When I first found Caray a couple years ago, I started as a lurker, but then found myself tempted to contribute. When I finally did, I felt very welcomed by the members. It is nice to know that others have the same thoughts about what happens in the TNs; and it's also interesting when some give a different perspective and/and or shed some light on confusing events. I'm looking forward to your comments!

Anon 4:46, I do hope that Stevey continues to provide us with information on upcoming telenovelas. The information Stevey provided was quite entertaining and very appreciated.

JudyB, Kat may have taken down the photos from the sidebar, but I did find some photos stored on the Blog. What might be able to be done is to provide a "Gallery of Recappers" if that is something that members would enjoy seeing. I don't know, however, if there are photos of every recapper.

I have not really dug into this one, but I know one thorn in commenters' sides if they do not want to jump through the hoops of getting an ID and all is the insane Captcha Google makes you go through.

It is a tricky mental and visual gauntlet. One I have seen is the maddening identification of pictures with street signs. Then they throw in one where a street sign is on a house or business and after putting on your glasses and sweating you are still unceremoniously bounced back to the end of the line to start over.

When that used to happen to me after a time or two I would just decide to go to ebay or Amazon instead.

And "Please prove you're not a robot" ? The Coors light and Sprint robots on TV seem nice enough.

I've been a recapper off and on for eight years, and no one ever offered me a spot on the sidebar. [[[pout]]]

RGV Chick: I'm still enjoying this blog.

Wayback when, a recapper wrote “The Care and Feeding of Recappers” that still lives in the sidebar. It says it all.

Fish Don't Sleep: We are soooo sorry, it will be fixed.
For a long time Caray has been in the what appeared to be survival / sustaining mode.
That has changed, as evidenced by this page.

You do write some downright hilarious stuff.

Kirby, I HATED those street signs....and the "store fronts" were just as bad. Someone once said that they had to identify clothing (pants, I think); I never got to to see those...I got fed up and used my google account.

Blue Lass, my apologies. I have read your recaps and comments and they are very entertaining and impressive. If you will send me a photo (or one that you would like displayed to represent you), I will include it in a Gallery of Recappers. Thank you for bringing that up!

Steve, glad you are still here :-)

Jarifa, yes, I hope visitors read that page. It is very rewarding to be fed with warm fuzzies and hopeos.

I will agree that telenovelas have changed in the last several years. And, perhaps, I have changed, too. I do not care for violence, rape, nor narcovelas. I prefer my entertainment to be on the lighter side with melodrama "light". The daily news IRL is bad enough. The occasional telenovela murder or beating are okay (irony, eh?) but not the darker telenovela stuff that comes on at the later hour.

The closed captions I get from Univision via my cable provider are a mess, so recapping would be an absolute nightmare for me. No other network has his problem, just Looneyvision. AT&T U-Verse must hate Univision, or vice versa.

The decline and ultimate loss of Telenovelaworld.com was sad, because we lost the old information database (as such) for older telenovelas with it. I would be sad to lose Caray!Caray! and the Patio of Lowered Expectations.

I truly appreciate our recappers. Thank you!!! ♥♥♥ I've done only a few recaps as a sub, and know it is work.

Bullet point recaps are my favorite, because I don't always have time to read a full complete recap of the day's episode. Sometimes I have to skim over a recap and miss important stuff. So if you are ever considering recapping, it does not have to be extensive.

RgvChick, it isn’t about the “warm fuzzies” . It is just knowing that someone is out there or else there is no reason to write. I commented from almost the very start of reading Caray. I have always figured that if someone WANTS my opinion, I need to take advantage of the situation. 😊 Also, It isn’t just the telenovelas suffering from a smaller audience. With the proliferation of productions on so many platforms, the viewing audience is being divided like never before. I think the new productions on Uni have been great. I love MMTMF which is very traditional but with some contemporary twists and which has gotten good ratings. I wish I would have had the time to have watched AAM because it looked to be very innovative with an outstanding cast and it also did well in the ratings. Telemundo has excellent productions, too. I cannot wait for “La reina del sur 2”.

maybe cover more telenovelas like the afternoon ones??

Doris, have you ever tried the closed captions on YouTube, now that is a mess!! I don't know what translator they use, but surely they cold select a better one.

Caray! Caray! will continue on, but we would like to see an increase in recappers and commenters. It just gives us more variety and satisfaction in what we try to offer.

Each recapper has his/her own style. Extensive detail is certainly not a requirement. What matters is that viewers have a place to discuss, offer their perspectives, ask questions, and get clarifications of events they may be confused about. As novelera indicated above, comments don't have to be extensive either; a simple thank you to the recapper(s) and/or a short sentence about the show suffices. Recappers like to know that their work is worthwhile and appreciated.

Jarifa, I was writing while you posted. We do agree that it is not all about the "warm fuzzies."

Anon 11:25, "maybe cover more telenovelas like the afternoon ones??" That has been on my mind too!! Good suggestion, thanks!

On my behalf, there is nothing wrong with the current system of Caray. I love the site and am addicted to reading it everyday. I feel connected to the recappers and Caray posters.

I think the present drop is because no studio is producing good telenovelas anymore. Just Narco novelas, one after another.

I hope I hope that Rgv Chick and Kirby come on board for PASL. I live their recaps.
Can I start a petition?

RGV--Thank you for letting us have this forum. Lots of good chatter to start us off. I was going to send you some suggestions separately, but the response has been so nice, I decided to post here.

So:
I, too, have found this forum fun, exercise for my brain, forming virtual companions and time well spent. You might not know this, but we had a reunion several years ago in the Mid-Atlantic region (well DMV to be exact), where we got to meet each other in the flesh. It turns out we were quite compatible and very much like our comments!!!

I like the idea of a Famous Quotes page and a separate Rogues' Gallery page.

IF and it is a big IF or WHETHER we get more people willing to recap, we could cover more telenovelas, including daytime (En Tierras Salvajes to name a current one). It's a huge commitment of time. But nowadays, we have the luxury of anticipating stories with fewer episodes, 100 or less. Some of the old ones ran up to 250 episodes. It shouldn't be impossible to find 5-7 people who are willing to commit to aid in the endeavor for the pleasure of our community. There are lots of rewards, virtual and otherwise.

I would like to see more ANONs come out and be recognized. We addressed this issue before quite awhile ago (and in part resulted in the "Care and Feeding, etc.). It was suggested that everyone must register with Blogger, but it was decided we didn't want to keep anyone away, but each individual recapper could request the anons to choose a screen name to distinguish among the other anons. It doesn't have to be one's own name. We have one commenter who picked Anon207! But at least we know who that is each time. A lot of us started out that way.

Checking the "Name/URL" does not expose your life history to the world--it just offers you a shortcut--we have some of those, too (but not on this page at this time).

Also, if you want to avoid the Captcha Time-waster, you can register with Blogger (see above all the orange B's in front of our names. A minimum of information is required--an e-mail address.

As for Stevey--I will get in touch with him and find out what he is up to. His silence is unusual. I became his contact after Vivi in DC went inactive. We jointly produced the three-part overview of upcoming shows in the fall of 2017. I am also remiss in not posting the current and just finished telenovelas on a page titled "Weekend Discussion: Producers' Filmographies" from 2013 (last updated in 2015). It got to be a lot of work, but I'm inspired to go back and bring it up to date--ESPECIALLY after Amar a Muerte walked off with so many of the Premios. (P.S. Remember that Uni is broadcasting the Premios on Sunday, March 17, 8-10pm.)

Anyway, last word on the photos. I remember when Melinama asked me to submit a photograph--it was 2014. Because my screen name is Anita, I ended up at the top, rather than mixed up somewhere in the middle. It was an honor I really didn't want, but I was told it went strictly in alphabetical order. Those photos were there for more than a year. Maybe even three before the ones that are gone disappeared, including mine. I had nothing to do with requesting taking it down.

Looking forward to more suggestions and more conversation.

Kirby, I hear ya about that Google robot check! The Telemundo offerings have not pleased me of late, so I might go days without commenting. When that happens I have to go through the drill of recognizing images and, often, even need to change my Google password to be able to log into Caray. Grrrr!

Ok, P.P.S. I covered Un Camino Hacia el Destino and Corazon Que Miente, both in daytime. We picked up enough recappers for Camino after a few weeks and Blue Lass and I ended up trading recapping duties for Miente. I enjoyed it--but I had more time, less trips.

Anita
It would be great to know what Stevey is up too.

I miss Vivi and her amazing brain.

So many have gone by the wayside.

I second (or third) the idea of doing more daytime shows. Those tend to be a lot more old-fashioned, which I like.

Sara, everyone is welcome to comment. That I know of, no one has asked you to not comment. Comments are only deleted (by me) if there is inflammatory content or if there is a personal attack on a member.

You are correct; there isn’t a dearth of shows, but there are a number of shows that do not appeal to several members. We do not measure success by the number of comments. The number of “views” for a page is not displayed and they far outnumber the comments; so we do know that people are, at a minimum, viewing the posts. To the public, though, it appears that the number of visitors has diminished…thus the questions and concerns about whether Caray has moved or its success.

As I’ve stated before, I have only been on Caray for a couple of years. I don’t know why the Anon feature was initially used, but I do know that when I started commenting, I would use that feature simply because I was “shy” and didn’t want to be recognized. I think that many of the Anons that post currently probably use it for the same reason…but that’s just my opinion.

Thank you for stopping by.

5ftlatina, your comment was deleted since it poses no contribution to the request made on the initial post. If you have an issue to discuss with the administrators, please contact them via email.

Sara, I’ve deleted your subsequent responses to my comment. Please email me if you want to continue the conversation.

Thanks

Why can't robots comment? No, really, why do you have to prove you're not a robot - in this or any other site?

I have been lurking and commenting for years, but not often enough (in my opinion) to sign in, etc. I'm just one of the many "Anons" who swoop in and out and comment in "drive-by" fashion. But I very much appreciate and admire the stellar recaps from our hard-working group. I remember one time we somehow ended up writing limericks about the tn. I believe it was during "La Tempestad."

There are some actors (Marjorie Sousa; Sabine Mouissier; David Zepeda and others) and producers (Mejia; Osorio; Lartilleux) that I can't stand and refuse to watch, but I always check in with the Patio to see if it's worth my time. Sometimes I get roped in, as with Mi Marido, but just barely. And sometimes I like to read the recappers' views when the show is really bad (El Talisman, anyone?) and the comments are hilarious.

Jojo - the lurker

Jojo, thank you for taking the leap and sharing your thoughts. You sound like a very interesting individual who has much to contribute. Hope to see your comments again.

The page will be closed shortly since there is sufficient information to get us started in making improvements to the main page. If you have a suggestion burning in your mind, please feel free to email me.

Thank you, everyone, for your valuable input!!

I know that quite a few of us lurkers/occasional commentators have busy schedules. I can only allow myself 1 telenovela at a time, and can usually not read the recaps every day. (This week I'm on semester break, which gives me a bit more time). When I think of something no one else has mentioned while reading one of the excellent recaps I do comment briefly. I now see mostly Univisión novelas, because it seemed as though Telemundo had become all narconovelas all the time--not to mention fewer novelas at all, as others have mentioned. I do miss novelera and her wonderful telemundo recaps.
