Lourdes
visited Alonso at his office hoping to learn the status of their
relationship. She had felt abandoned and not a part of his life. He
explained that he needed to be assured of her safety and then told
her that there had been information that somehow got to the guilty
parties. He therefore sold his house and changed his routine. He
said they could work out ways to be together that would protect her.
He had not taken a chance on love in a long while and now he was in
love with her. [Besos, por fin.]
Mónica
got more hysterically histrionic as court was adjourned and even when
Ricardo tried to tell her that her son would be alright. She was
dragged away, apparently sobbing. Ricardo felt that the sentence was
too severe, but Juan seemed to realize that this was about the
premeditation. Sonia thanked the Vega team for their help, but Juan
told her that they did this in order to get to the truth. Sonia was
satisfied with the outcome because it sends the message that one
cannot take the law into one's own hands.
As
the Vega lawyers left the court facility, Ricardo said that the worst
of this was that Rafael believed in Mónica up until the end.
Roberto then talked about how this is the risk one takes with the
heart and that it was best not to. Juan was still outraged over
Mónica's situation; Roberto said not to take Sonia's comments to
heart. He then checked his cell phone and saw numerous messages from
the senior housing his father was in and said he had to take care of
this. Juan went to see Mónica and Roberto stayed to see Rafael.
Sofia
was looking for Roberto at the office and asked Victoria if she knew
where he was. Victoria told her to ask Carmen. Without revealing
details she made it clear that she and Roberto were on the outs.
Then she got up and left the break room.
Rafael
told Ricardo that he felt worse and perhaps he should not have said
anything. Ricardo told him that since Mónica planned the crime she
had to do the time. Justice is when people get what they deserve.
He assured Rafael that Mónica's son would be well cared-for and
commended his courage for confessing to the crime. His sentence
could be reduced for good behavior. Rafael, however, felt that she
had destroyed his life. [Really, what kind of life will he have
after getting out of prison?]
Javier
ratted Alejandra out to Alonso over her investigation into her
father's kidnapping. Alonso said he would talk to her so she
wouldn't put herself at any further risk.
Alejandra
and Lorena made phone calls to get foundation funding for Ivan's
treatment. Both were running into brick walls because Ivan did not
have parents with him.
Victoria
apologized to Sofia for having been brusque with her before. She
explained she was having a problem with Roberto. Sofia was not upset
with her; anyone can have a bad day. She offered her ear if Victoria
wanted to talk.
Alejandra
called the hospital to check up on Ivan and found out he was stable.
She said she would call again the next day. Alonso came into her
office to tell her to stop getting involved in the investigation.
She refused, saying that she was not leaving the office to do it and
not putting herself at risk. He commented that she was just like her
father... stubborn. She said she had to because she would not allow a bunch of
criminals to force them to change their lives. Alonso told her to be
careful.
Ricardo
talked to his children while driving; they were in between classes.
Juan
visited Mónica, who blamed him for the outcome of the case. He
apologized for having lied when they met because he was just doing
his job. “What kind of job, separating a mother from her sick
son?” Juan told her that he was simply looking for the woman who
had gotten his client to kill. She seemed to have forgotten that
she planned the crime, claiming she hadn't told him to do anything.
He told her he always wanted to help people who had suffered
injustice. Especially women who do everything they can to help their
children when there was little money. She said she had many bills
because her son needed so much. He agreed that Dr Lara should have
paid for his mistake by taking care of these expenses. She went on
about how she got no justice. Juan told her that it was her lawyer
who failed her because it was difficult to prove malpractice. She
said she had no money to pay a new lawyer. He said he would help
her. He said he would get her sentence reduced and again told her
that Ivan was being cared for, that his colleagues were seeing to that.
She finally looked at him and said life had taught her to trust
nobody.
Ricardo
and Alejandra talked about the case and she updated him on the
arrangements for Ivan.
At
the senior residential complex Edwin told Roberto that he got
complaints from the families of sick residents that his father had
thrown a party that ended at 6AM. It was disruptive and it was not
the first time. Nicolás had to leave that very day. He left father
and son alone and Roberto asked his father whether he had packed. He
said he didn't have much and went to get it. Roberto didn't let him
know, but he secretly admired his old man.
Carlos
put the money bag on the conference table and Alan looked inside it.
“How can this man have so much money and not forgive your debt to
him?” he asked. Carlos said that he felt pressure to do this
because of the debt. He grabbed the bag and threw it into a corner.
He admitted he was angry because Alejandra was with Ricardo. He had
thought it was only a matter of time before he could get her back and
he intended for her to be sorry for this decision. He said they had
to grow the firm to make it bigger and better than Vega.
Alejandra
told Ricardo about Carlos' visit and that she had turned down his
offer. She described his reaction to her news of their relationship
as “the worst.” Ricardo told her he had an appointment with a
realtor and asked if she wanted to go with him. She said she did and
he said again he wanted to spend his life with her.
Roberto
brought his father back to his place and said he would get his room
ready. Nicolás told him this would just be temporary. He began
checking out Roberto's wine rack, taking out a bottle. Roberto asked
him whether the party was worth getting evicted from the place and he
said “Every minute, every second.”
Adrián
brought coffee and cookies to Victoria's office. He tried to get her
to talk.
Alejandra
and Ricardo looked at an apartment with large rooms and a view. He
did the pre-proposal “Will you come live with me?” and she
accepted. They talked about their future happiness. [Is anyone
else getting premonitions of doom yet?]
Victoria
side-stepped a question or two and finally said she didn't want to
talk about this. She asked Adrián about his latest case and he told
her about the security videos. He said he hadn't wanted to use the
one from the hotel because he didn't like intruding on other people's
privacy, especially women's. He said he had to because Mónica had
continued to lie that she did not know Rafael. She replied that
sometimes they had to do hard things. He said he always tried to
help women. He told her about the sentences. She commented that the
judge had been tough and that she couldn't imagine how difficult this
would be for Mónica.
Juan
went home to the women in his life and he told them what happened.
He said he would help Mónica. Susanna said that this is so like him
and Fernanda said that this is what she admired most about him. He
asked them if they'd like to go out to eat. Susanna said she would
cook something great but Juan insisted on taking them out to
someplace special.
Over
dinner Nicolás told Roberto that he would start apartment hunting
the next day. He didn't want to go to any other retirement home
because they had too many rules. He wanted a bachelor pad. “What
if you want to bring Victoria home and I'm here?” Roberto told him
that wasn't going to happen and his father told him “A Morelli
never surrenders.” Roberto said it wasn't like that. He had his
thing and Victoria had hers. Nicolás reminded him of a past
girlfriend of his own who had put her career first but their time
together was some of the best in his life. He told Roberto not to
give up until he had tried everything. Roberto said that “The best
thing for me is relations without commitment.” Nicolás looked
like he didn't quite believe this and Roberto looked as though he was
lying to himself.
Susanna
was a little intimidated by the restaurant Juan had chosen, thinking
that perhaps she was underdressed and that the menu was quite
expensive. Juan ordered a bottle of wine and told his mother that
because she had always cooked such delicious food that she deserved
to be served delicious food. He had been to this place with Roberto
several times.
Carlos
had a stiff drink and lost his temper at his secretary when he
couldn't find a file. Alan told him to calm down. Carlos told him
to leave him alone and Alan said he'd been going through a bad moment
and asked why he doesn't cool it with everyone else. Carlos realized
he was right and said he would finish up and go home. He asked Alan
to come in early because they had something important to discuss.
Alan offered to stay and take care of it but Carlos insisted that it
be in the morning. As Alan walked out and Nancy was approaching the
door Carlos' phone rang and he answered. Alan quietly warned Nancy
to proceed with caution, but she entered as Carlos tossed his phone
onto his desk. She asked if she could help if it would save him some
time and he turned her down. He took another drink and she said that
she knew he didn't have it easy but he didn't have to do it alone.
She suggested he get some rest before walking out. [Now is not
the time for a booty call].
Susanna
was not prepared for the taste of an expensive wine, saying it was
too strong for her. She asked for a soft drink and Juan ordered one
for her as their entrees were delivered. She did like the food.
Juan told her that this was thanks for the care she took of him.
El
Chivo thanked El Ciego for getting him a lawyer and El Ciego told him
to be more careful in future. The
other goon said it was too bad El Gringo didn't get the bullet meant
for him. El Chivo said it was his territory, which El Ciego
“corrected.” This sounded like a turf war.
Ricardo
took Alejandra home and they talked about their future. Besos next
to the Bird of Paradises plant.
