Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Lunes 4/22/19, Episode 29: Shootout

Roberto asked Ricardo whether he was sure he wanted to propose to Alejandra. Ricardo told him he was and didn't want to waste any more time. They then agreed that this needed to be in a romantic setting and Roberto told him he was happy for them.

Adrián got off the phone with an airline and could find no information about Andres Camacho or his daughter. Victoria suggested that they get a warrant for his laptop and for records of his internet activity and phone calls. They also needed to talk to Violeta to get more information about her daughter. They left the office.

Ricardo and Roberto continued to talk but Carlos walked in just in time to see the engagement ring. Ricardo walked out and Carlos went on about the new offices and the celebration, saying that Mine Is Bigger than Yours, which Roberto calmly dismissed as a joke. They parted company amiably as Carlos left.

Victoria updated Violeta on what they didn't know and Violeta realized that Andres had been lying to her from the beginning regarding the vacation plans. Adrián and Victoria asked her about any trips Andres would have talked about in the past, including his business trips. She told them he traveled to a lot of places, particularly Texas. He was an electrical engineer and had many projects there, particularly in Austin. She couldn't remember the names of any clients. They told her to let them know if there was anything else she remembered.

Carlos made nice with Carmen and asked the name of the restaurant where Alejandra's partnership will be celebrated. She gave him the information and he walked out with a determined look.

Later Ricardo and Alejandra arrived at the restaurant where Roberto and a bottle of champagned waited for them.

Carlos went back to his office and vented to Alan. Or rather, exploded in front of him. Alan told him that this is the signal that Alejandra had moved on and he should not pursue her any further, but Carlos told him that they were going to crash the party that night so he could talk to her. “Whatever it takes, she isn't going to marry Bustamante!”

Most of the Vega lawyers arrived at the restaurant and Roberto poured the champagne. Everyone congratulated Alejandra and drank a toast. In the meantime Sofia and Javier went to the hospital to talk to the owner of the club. The nurse looked at the records and told them they could not talk to him, as he was in Intensive Care. Javier said it was very important they talk to him. The nurse replied that this would be impossible because the patient was unconscious. Sofia asked if she knew when they could and was told that the hospital worked to save all their patients. Sofia leaned on her with statements about the senseless loss of life and how they were working for the families of the people who died. She finally got to her and the nurse told her that they had three patients who were conscious and whom she and Javier could talk to. She gave them the room numbers.

Alejandra got up from the table to go to the ladies' lounge just as Carlos and Alan arrived at the restaurant. They were followed in by El Chivo, who should have stood out in such clothing, and who was carefully talking via cell phone to El Ciego. He was waiting in his car as El Chivo gave hiim the address. He told him to make sure Carlos didn't leave before ending the call and taking off. A bunch of goons tailed them in a conspiculously orange truck.

Carlos approached Alejandra and they exchanged a few pleasantries, Carlos claiming that he and Alan were meeting a client for dinner. This allowed him to wave Alan off so he could corner Alejandra.

Sofia and Javier entered one of the hospital rooms and talked to one of the patients. He said he worked at the club as a waiter. Javier asked about the emergency exits and he said that everything had been in order. Sofia then asked what happened. He said that the fire started in the storage room and spread quickly through. The emergency exits were blocked and the door could not be opened. He did not know whether this was an accident or not. She asked about flammable substances and yes, there were some in the place. She asked if his boss had any problems with anyone. When he hesitated to say more she told him that they were representing families of people who died in the fire. He finally said that a lot of drug dealers came to the place. Javier told him that they knew that the fire had to have been set deliberately. Sofia thanked him and told him to rest. He nodded and put the oxygen mask back on as Sofia and Javier walked out. He whispered to her that this was definitely a problem involving a narcotics ring.

Carlos started by saying he was glad she was being recognized for her abilities but that he would have also done so. She began getting impatient with him but when he grabbed her hands and told her he was still obsessed with in love with her she told him that it was all over and he should forget about her and just be friends. She pulled her hands back until he released them. [What would it have taken for her to get a restraining order?]

Victoria went to the bar to order a special bottle of champagne and have it charged to her. Roberto appeared and said he would pay for it. He tried again to convince her she had been mistaken, but again was not successful.

Alejandra emphasized that she and Ricardo were living together and Carlos still would not back down... until he saw El Ciego enter the room behind Alejandra. She excused herself and turned to return to her colleages as El Ciego addressed Carlos as “counselor” and commented on how he had not answered his calls. She paused, realizing that his voice was all too familiar. She looked back as Carlos steered him away from the area.

Ricardo came looking for her and asked what was wrong. She said “That voice. I feel like I recognized it.” Ricardo looked past her. The four goons from the orange truck entered the restaurant. The bearded one with the orange skull on his shirt lifted his weapon and fired at El Ciego, who was at the far end. El Ciego drew his pistol and returned fire. Ricardo pulled Alejandra to the floor and covered her. Other patrons ducked under the tables as other goons appeared and it was worse than the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. El Ciego got to a safe corner and slammed his hand against the wall in frustration before escaping. The shooters ran. The Vega lawyers came out from under their table and immediately noticed that Ricardo and Alejandra were not with them. Ricardo got up and helped Alejandra to her feet. She felt something wet and realized that she had been hit in the abdominal area. She collapsed against him and slipped to the floor. He yelled for someone to all for an ambulance. Adrián took out his cell phone and called. Carlos came running over and bent over her. She looked up at Ricardo, touched his cheek and said “I love you” before slipping into unconsciousness. Carlos was shocked and Alan stopped dead in his tracks.

Sofia and Javier discussed next steps on the way out of the hospital.

Carlos became hysterically angry as he shouted for someone to call an ambulance, not realizing that Adrián had already done so. Alan had to restrain him. Ricardo held Alejandra's head in his left hand as he covered the bleeding wound with his right. Victoria tried to tell him she would be alright. Carlos broke free from Alan's restraint and went back to Alejandra only to be shoved away by an angry Ricardo. Alan restrained him and Alonso told him off, finally telling him to get lost. The ambulance was almost there.

As Sofia and Javier went down to the street she suggested that they go to the restaurant for Alejandra's party but he said he needed to work on the case. He wasn't interested in company parties or any other such thing when there was work to be done. Sofia finally gave up trying to convince him and they went their separate ways.

In Austin Andres Camacho and his side chick had coffee while talking about Sol, who had ust found her favorite television program. Megan asked whether he thought Sol would accept her and he said that she just needed a few days to get used to her new life. He compounded this with more lies, saying that he and Violeta had a lot of problems and thougth it best for them to separate He further claimed that Violeta was alright with himself and Megan having custody of Sol. Ditzy Megan fell for this hook, line, and sinker, telling him he was the most wonderful man she ever met and that she loved him. He lied again, telling her he loved her. [Here was where I lost my dinner and my appetite for the next two days].

The EMTs were trying to wheel Alejandra out on the gurney as Carlos and Ricardo began fighting again. The others tried to separate them, Victoria had a few choice words for this, and Quiróz arrived to impose order. He told them that if this continued he would arrest them all. Ricardo and Carlos hurled threats at each other, each blaming the other for this situation. Quiróz told Alonso he needed to go to the station to give a statement, but Alonso said they needed to check on Alejandra. Quiróz conceded and sent his men around the restaurant to look for evidence and clues.

El Ciego and his goons arrived at their current hiding place. El Cuevo had found out that El Gringo was still alive and El Ciego decided to kill the man himself.

There was no news of Alejandra's condition, which had worsened on the way to the hospital. Victoria had to tell the others when they arrived. Ricardo almost had a breakdown, Victoria was almost in shock; she had ridden in the ambulance. Carlos went to the nurses' station and tried to throw his weight around. Sofia arrived. Roberto put his arm around Victoria while trying to assure Ricardo that Alejandra would be alright. A doctor appeared and was talking to Juan in the background.

Javier went to the crime scene, which did ot please Quiróz. Javier took photos as forensic workers marked the location of the spent shells and gathered evidence. Quiróz told him he should be with his colleagues.

Paula and Jaime arrived at the hospital just as Carlos ws telling Alan that he had gotten the nurses to keep him informed of any developments [This sense of entitlement is enough to reduce me to a size 0]. Paula asked Ricardo what happened and he started explaining it but didn't know who was responsible or why. Paula became near-hysterical; Victoria led her away, telling her that they would be told when there was an update. Jaime blamed himself for this, saying that this would not have happened if he hadn't had anything to do with Joaquin Dorantes. Alonso tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault and they would find out who did this.

Some time later Paula was still pacing and crying. Ricardo tried to reassure her but had trouble reassuring himself. Gustavo returned for the purpose of helping Ricardo who was then going through his nightmare of several months previously. Roberto began getting increasingly angry, swearing to track down the shooters and see them dead.

Susana prayed to the Virgen and shook when Fernanda knocked on the door. She was nervous for Juan's safety.

The silence in the waiting area of the hospital didn't last long. Ricardo got angry at the sight of Carlos and was about to go after him. Carlos – in his usual entitled manner – insisted that Ricardo didn't deserve to be there, blaming him for it. Alan kept him back while Gustavo distracted Ricardo with his support. A nurse came out to tell Paula and Jaime that a doctor would talk to them. Ricardo started to accompany them but Carlos pulled him back and started in with him all over again. This time Alonso broke it up and said “If you can't control yourselves take it outside.”

Victoria went down to the cafeteria and cried. Roberto found her sitting alone at a table, feeling helpless and crying that they are living in a state of fear. She could not stand feeling this way. He put his arms around her.

Alonso and Gustavo tried to get Ricardo to calm down. They needed to be there for Jaime and Paula and fighting with Carlos would accomplish nothing positive. Ricardo knew this, but felt that he could not live without Alejandra. Javier arrived and Sofia asked if he knew anything new. He told her he did not and Quiróz did not want him there. He didn't trust the police because of past screwups on their part. [He must have followed the OJ Simpson case back in the day.] Javier was determined to continue investigated to determine whether this was accidental or Alejandra having been targeted.

Victoria told Roberto she was worried about Ricardo. He didn't deserve to have this happen. She could not understand how such a thing could happen to two people like Ricardo and Alejandra. Roberto had the same questions in his mind as Javier. Victoria was determined to take part in the investigation and so was Roberto.

UA: Why am I NOT shocked that Alejandra got shot in the ambush ?

Sounds like Carlos is still obsessed with her like last Season.

What are the odds she survives ?

Thanks UA!

It may have just been the other scenes in between but I felt like a lot of time passed between Ale getting shot and the ambulance arriving. I don’t know....Alejandra may not survive.

I wonder if these events will bring Victoria and Roberto close together again?

Thank you UA. Your dedication is unparalleled.

All I can say at this moment, is what self-respecting ladies go to a meal in a restaurant without a purse? I noticed that.

Well, also, who walks freely into an upscale dining establishment dressed in the typical uniform of a thug? Shouldn't there have been a maître d' at the front?

Well, too, when 3 or 4 armed guys walk in waving assault weapons, shouldn't someone have already called the police, toute de suite?

I'm glad Victoria let Bobby comfort her.

Thanks UA. What a jarring night.

The funny part of the whole shooting episode was with Juan calling out "Alejandra" in the midst of all the mayhem as the stretcher goes away and Ricardo and Carlos are fighting.

That beautiful powder blue dress...ruined.

I'd think that if they were going to write her out of the show, they would have had her die right there at the restaurant. I hope she survives.

Will she take her recollection of El Ciego's voice with her to the grave? Will Ricardo investigate why she said the voice sounded familiar? Or will we get the pleasure of watching it dawn on Alejandra that Carlos and El Ciego are in cahoots? The latter, por favor!

I like the sub plot with Meghan and Comacho and Violeta. I'm looking forward to an Austin neighbor seeing Sol on an Amber Alert. Meghan seems nice. Her heart is about to get broken too.

I think Megan is a naive fool. I can't wait for her to find out the truth about Andres because he'd discard her the same way when he is bored with her.

I agree UA, Ms Megan is a fool and a temporary plaything, until this genial creep and daughter move on to the next one. Hoping to see this storyline resolved soon. And what about poor Granny still stuck in jail somewhere also, along with daughter? Are they in the same cell? I know...I'm overthinking this.

On the ambulance question, I thought it arrived rather quickly, given the traffic situation in Mexico City. Could have done without the antler-bashing between Carlos and Ricardo. What a waste of energy.

Thanks as always for a sterling recap, hard-working lady.

URBAN, you work the magic. Very action
Packed celebration. That ends In Blood spillage.

Carlos is just pathetic. Why O why not
Just slink away already, nobody wants
You there. And what Was he gonna do?
Tell ale he's the one for her? Don't
Marry Ricardo? That would have spoiled
The surprise, which is, was his plan.
Whose bullet hit ale? El Ciego's or
The other El? I don't think it really matters they were just shooting Willy
Nilly, let the bullet land where they
May. And why that Resturant?

Can't stand Andres.And Megan is just a
Silly nitwit who don't think to ask questions, she Got her a sugardaddy,
With a kid who's askin for momma. And
She Ain't her. No bells n whistles went off? Guess not.

I almost missed this episode last nite
I Forgot it was on. I was between this and "The enemy within" on NBC.

Thanks for the recap Urban

Thanks, Urban.

Now I'm even more incensed that Carlos is blaming Ric when he knows El Ciego was there.

I hope Ana Brenda stays

Nina—
El Ciego was in a hurry to catch up with Carlos, for whatever. El Chivo was tasked with finding him. He found him in the restaurant. He’s the one guy that came in first and telegraphed the information to Ciego. He hurried to the restaurant, not realizing El Gringos’ guys were right behind him. Hope this answers your question.

I hope she does too. Her n Ricky aren't done yet. I wouldn't be shocked
If Carlos call Elena to come back just to stir up trouble for Ricky n aly. He
Is just that vindictive and hateful. He can just go, I don't even care, just just let him stay long enough to find out Alan set him up and for aly to find out he's been using tide and gain to Wash El ciego's bloody money.

........and rinsing it in her womens foundation. Yes it does answer my question, Thank you Anita.

Nina: You're saying Carlos is COMPLICIT on what happened to Alejandra ?

I couldn't tell whose bullet got her and unless the shooters used the different weapons the police may not be able to identify it. El Ciego used a hand gun while his opponents used assault rifles and that difference would show.

I would not be surprised if his bullet was the one because that would be supremely appropriate karma for Carlos. All the time he had Alejandra's photo on his desk after she gave him the kiss-off it always bothered me that he continued to speak of her as his intended, which was incredibly stupid of him to tell El Ciego.

What gets me is that nobody else seems to have gotten hit, no diners, no cartel members--just Ale. You'd think there'd be more wounded to carry off to the hospital and have families gathering, etc.

Well, that and the fact that Ric covered her as soon as the shooting started and she was shot in the lower abdomen while the wild shooting was sprayed around the walls. Ahhhh, telenoveland...

I think it was El Ciego's bullet because they showed it in slo-mo.

The recap of last night's episode is still in progress. Will post as soon as I'm finished.

Note about next week: Since that is the week of Wagner's Ring Cycle there may be delays in coverage of this saga. I will be at the Met four nights next week.
