Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Lunes 4/29/19, Episode 34: Decisions

Carlos yelled for a nurse. Two of them came and shoved him out of the ICU as the machine went crazy. The doctor ran in and Carlos stared in through the plate glass window.

Ricardo was justifiably angry that Carlos was hanging around and still obsessed with Alejandra. Jaime tried to calm him down, saying that Carlos had been in Alejandra's life for a long time. Carlos came out, looking panicked, saying that Alejandra had taken a bad turn. Ricardo demanded to know what he had done, then ran back with Paula. He put on his scrubs faster than Clark Kent could strip off his suit and tie and ran into the ICU. Alejandra opened her eyes for a moment, told him she loved him, then flatlined.

Sofia and Javier ran into Quiróz on their way to see Sr. Ravoyedo, the club owner. Quiróz had taken his statement but would not share the [confidential] information with them. Sofia told him that he had to have issued the order that people had to pay their way out of the place and was therefore responsible for more than sixteen deaths. “That is your theory,” he replied “but I agree with you. He said that this was an accident and claims innocence.” This only frustrated Sofia and Javier. There was more to this than the families who had approached the Vega firm, and Quiróz told them that if they want justice they would need absolute proof and lots of it.

A Dr Ramos came to the office looking for Roberto and/or Victoria. Carmen told him they were not in at the moment but she could call another attorney. He refused at first, but she persuaded him to talk to whom she would send for.

Carmen sent for Lorena and Manuel, who headed to the conference room. Their client's son was accused of stealing several bottles of tequila and walking out of the store. He was on his way to the police station. Manuel got very nervous about what to do next.

Ricardo came out to the reception area and told Jaime and Paula that Alejandra had take a bad turn. And the doctor was with her. Paula began crying. Ricardo and Jaime looked back at Carlos, who looked confused. As Paula's anxiety increased the doctor came out and explained that Alejandra had gone into cardiac arrest, which was a risk in view of what had happened to her. Ricardo helped Paula sit down, then turned around and went after Carlos, demanding to know what he had done. This became a fight, which Jaime needed help to break up. A few doctors and men in suits broke up the fight. Jaime yelled that the last thing they all need is for the two of them to be fighting. Carlos had the nerve to threated to be the one to take Alejandra out of the hospital.

Victoria and Adrián talked about the case and her worries for Alejandra. Their flight was called.

Jaime told Carlos to wait for him in another part of the hospital. Carlos apologized and left. Ricardo told Jaime that when he had been with Alejandra she was alright and then Carlos showed up. This was not a coincidence. Alonso, Gustavo, Roberto, and Juan arrived and asked what happened. Ricardo told them, finishing with “If anything bad happens to her, it's Carlos' fault.”

Javier and Sofia went back to the office and started reviewing papers, much to his annoyance at the prospect of another late night and an early court date.

Alonso gave Lorena and Manuel authorization to handle the case.

That night Revelledo, the club owner, was lying in his hospital bed complaining of a headache. The nurse told him he was getting better but then squeezed the IV bag, which caused him pain. She told him to obey the boss and tell the police that it was all an accident if he wanted to stay alive.

Lourdes arrived to be with Paula, then the doctor came to give them the bad news. They could find no brain activity.

Lorena and Manuel went to the police station where Dr Ramos's son was brought into the interview room. He had not said anything yet in the way of a statement. Lorena said just to tell what happened. He said that it all started as a game. FB to where a friend of his was shooting a video in which he was acting out the challenge of stealing enough booze for a party. He had tied up his jacket in order to smuggle out the bottles, then put three in it as his friend shot the video on his cell phone. However, they were seen by a customer who pointed them out as they got out of the store. They got into their car, did a few seconds of shooting the victory statement, started the car, and the police were in immediate pursuit, fast enough to block them for the arrest. The DA asked why they did this and he answered “Because everyone in school is doing this, so we did.” His father looked perplexed and annoyed.

Both Ricardo and Paula asked the doctor if there was anything he could do. He told them he was sorry, but there was nothing that could repair this damage. Paula asked to see her. The doctor told her that Alejandra was on a respirator. They would move her to another room in a day or so until they came to a decision. He advised against prolonging this, then left them alone. Paula collapsed onto a comfy chair and cried. Alonso reminded Jaime about Alejandra's living will. Jaime asked everyone to sit down, then began to tell them about it. He said they should respect her decision and disconnect the beathing machine. Sadness and shock in all faces.

Lorena explained to the doctor that the value of the stolen goods could not be more than two thousand pesos ($105.59 USD). They should offer to pay the store owner. He asked what would happen if the owner refused the offer. Lorena said that the store would not benefit from refusing it just to punish the boy. If they went to the shop owner now, the boy could be home by that evening. The father looked at them and said “Let him spend the night here. I can't believe he could do such a stupid thing simply because 'everyone at school is doing this.'” Manuel didn't understand why he wanted to complicate this when the solution was so simple. The father said that “He has to learn that life has consequences. Some choices are bad and better that he learn this now before doing something worse.”

Roberto got Victoria's voice mail, possibly because she was on the plane. He didn't leave a message, feeling that this would not be appropriate. Paula begged Jaime not to talk about this now. Ricardo said they should wait just in case. Paula talked about cases in which miracles happen and Jaime did not see the sense of putting Alejandra through that kind of suffering. He left the decision to Paula.

Adrián and Victoria arrived safely and without incident at their hotel and decided to go out to dinner right after checking in and dropping off their luggage.

Lorena and Manuel tried to talk their client out of his decision. They were concerned for his son's safety. Dr Ramos explained that his son had never lacked for anything and he was risking his freedom over a stupid game. He was going to have to learn to be responsible. Lorena told him that if that was his decision she would speak with the DA to get the appropriate documents drawn up and the matter would be finished in the morning. Dr Ramos thanked her and wished them a good night.

Paula felt she couldn't make this decision. Jaime said he understood. Nobody liked making these decisions, but he asked her to think about it. As Lourdes held onto Paula the other lawyers supported Ricardo, who was having the same problem with this.

Jaime had the thankless task of telling Carlos, who could not accept it. He cried. Jaime explained the living will and Carlos started saying “No, no.” As Jaime embraced him he almost confessed his role in her condition. “I feel so bad. I...I..” [Too bad he didn't complete that.]

As Gustavo talked about respecting Alejandra's decision, Ricardo began going into denial. Roberto said that Alejandra's condition isn't the same as before. Ricardo was in the same condition as Paula. His friends were very patient with him.

Lorena and Manuel disagreed about Dr Ramos' solution. Manuel thought it was excessive as in “Couldn't he just take away his car or something?” but Lorena said “It's his decision and he knows his own son.” She also reminded him that they will encounter many different clients and they will have to respect some solutions they didn't agree with.

Adrián and Victoria dined at a steak house. He explained he was from a family of four kids and the worst part was being the youngest because of all the crap he had to take from his older siblings due to having been his parents' favorite. Two of them became doctors and one is a teacher. The conversation turned to their office and Alejandra, whom Adrián was sure would be alright.

Lourdes and Alonso stayed with Paula and Jaime respectively and listened to their friends' anguish. Ricardo sat with his colleagues in the cafeteria and had just about concluded that they needed to respect Alejandra's wishes when Carlos came down. Surprisingly there was no fight, only Carlos and Ricardo aknowledging that they both wished for more time for Alejandra to recover. However, Carlos said to Ricardo “If you love her, fight for her life.”

Urban--
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This episode had all the drama of the Ring Cycle in it, but you gave it to us straight, right out of a NYT column on crime statistics and deaths in Mexico.

Ha! Steve was right this time. The protag didn't make it to the end. Chalk one up for him.

Those two boys in blue brawling and rolling around on the floor looked more like a schoolyard scuffle. Please spare us Elena coming back to comfort Ric in his time of need. I'd rather he go see her and the children up in BC.

So, in that HUGE Vega office suite, where we constantly see persons moving up and down the halls, packed waiting room and they have just two teenagers minding the legal business? Well, one of them has her degree, but still. For some reason, I kind of sided with the Dad in his son's FB game. However, this will NOT be the end of it. The kid is going to learn a lesson, yes, but I bet Dad learns a worse one if kid doesn't make it out in one piece. And what of the boy's accomplice? What happened to him? Where are HIS parents?

No amount of hand-wringing, crying, tearful hugs, denials, emotional outbursts brought a single tear to my eyes. No disrespect for what Ale and her family are going through, it's just that all it took was for Anon207 (hey amiga, where have YOU been all this time) to comment that Dynasty had been renewed for a 3d season and for RGV to say Adios to Dimples and it all fell flat--it was just acting in a story.

No resentment to these semi-spoiler revealers, it just brought home to me that sometimes a role is less about how you feel about acting than how much they are paying you and what's best for your career advancement. It's not a bad thing for anyone else, of course, but for us it is, since we are left high and dry for want of an attractive, sensible, smart protag.

That said, I found three episodes of Dynasty on OnDemand. ABC is certainly bi-lingual and has been working on her English pronunciation. I wish her well--I won't be watching Dynasty. One *could* say that's one way to get into the U.S. without having to wait at the border.

Don’t feel like alcohol bandit is coming out of the jail cell in one piece! Just saying....Daddy is going to feel remorse and the youngsters will pay the price....not a spoiler . Just my musing.

Im a little surprised on Alejandra's death yet i kind of saw it coming and it was in a way refreshing that they killed off a main character. Does this mean that Ricardo is gone as well. What is going to happen with Carlos now. I actually like Victoria with Adrian they make a cute couple. Not really interested in the kid stealing case but with the comments made on here, it looks like the story lines are becoming predictable.

Anon at 1:08--That is my consensus, too. So what lesson do we learn from this if it comes to pass? Daddy has money and can get his kid out of jail for shoplifting, but wants to teach him a lesson. Other Daddies don't have the money to get their kids out of jail even if they wanted to, and must suffer the consequences? Sounds like unequal justice to me.

If the kid does come out in one piece, what does that *really* do for the relationship between father and son? Will the kid admit to learning a lesson, or will resentment take root?

Ana--welcome. The cases always have some lesson in mind. Think of them as secular versions of Rosa de Guadalupe. We just go with the flow. It's entertainment to see the attorneys get involved and reach solutions, even when we don't understand the Mexican legal system at all.

As for killing off a main character--it seems to be de mode these days. Even though it was at the very end, the main protagonist was killed off in Amar a Muerte--robbing us of a happily ever after.

I bet Ricardo will stick around to annoy the heck out of us for the rest of the run. After all, he has to figure out what it was Carlos did to Ale to make her have that seizure.

When are they going to take RdG off the primetime lineup and give us back some good novelas? While I had considered watching the Brazilian novela about Jesus (atheism notwithstanding) surrounding it with that hokey series is more than I can take.

Ricardo deserves the satisfaction of finding out what Carlos did to cause Alejandra's seizures. He does not deserve to have to deal with Elena, who will be gone at least until the danger is gone.

Carlos will eventually realize that Alejandra had a good reason to ask about the voice of the man he was talking to. There should be police recordings of the phone calls El Ciego made to her over the ransom demands. This is where Carlos will probably lose it altogether and realize that El Ciego was going to bleed him for the money he had been paying him to launder his drug money for however long he's been doing it. That will send his whole firm down the crapper.

UA: Sadly my Bold Prediction about Alejandra getting killed off was right. Plus, everyone on here found out that "Dynasty" was coming back for a 3rd Season, which pretty much means RIP Alejandra AKA Dimples.

Big question is whether Carlos will up the ante in keeping his association with El Ciego a secret ?

Anita: I still need to know more about Sofia's backstory, her background, personal life, etc., before I can embrace her as the new leading Protagonista.

Me again...does anyone else thinks Dave Z is a terrible actor......? Wooden..emotes badly.

Wow. I'm proud of Carlos(let's see how long that last). Wow. I think he is really sorry about everything. But.But
I just don't know what to say about this man, except he's probly sorry his
Life is in the toilet. Cuz. IT. IS.

It might cost him hislife to make some changes, and thats a shame cuz I see
The potential for a great friendship between him and Ricky. Well, a girl can Dream can't she? And then they could go after the 3 ELs together. Lol
Wishful thinking is at an all time high in my neck of the woods. Lol.

I just love that father who is showin
The tuff love. I think the stupidest
STatement in the history of stupid statements Is "everybody is doing it". No they're not. Every body is never doin it. Leave his butt right there in
The poky so he can think about how so
Incredibly dumb it was to steal stuff.
He got a good daddy. Now some parents
Wouldnt do what he did Cuz they don't want their babies around lo-lifes. Well, they took the path of the lolife
So it's good they get see how the other side lives. Stupid teenagers.

Ok I would love to see a miracle with
Ale. They have those in tns/soaps
Ya know!

I'm we'll see what happens tonight.

I can't stand Carlos and what he's done throughout both seasons, but I felt really bad for him. He obviously used poor judgment letting Ale get all worked up (He could've just said it was a potential new client), but I'm sure he never meant to harm her. And nerves, fear, and tempers were flaring, but come on, two so-called ace attorneys should be able to keep their cool, especially in the ICU. That scuffle was ridiculous.

I also fear that something might happen to that YouTube thief while incarcerated and it will come back to kick those newbies in the you-know-what, because regardless of who is paying the legal fees, their duty is to their client, not his father. I get that he wants to teach his (really old-looking) son a lesson, but no matter what, you do NOT put your child in possibly dangerous situations. There are other ways. As someone said, the dad will probably be the one to learn the lesson.

Nina: Carlos will have to live with the fact that his agitating resulted in Alejandra's death.

She's not dead yet Steve. They could still have a tn miracle. I really hope they do.

Nina: You better hope I'm wrong about them killing her off.

Thanks UA. Have to get myself organized and remember to record this each night, but so far, am relying on the fine recaps of the Ley team. This was a great series of sentences:

"He put on his scrubs faster than Clark Kent could strip off his suit and tie and ran into the ICU. Alejandra opened her eyes for a moment, told him she loved him, then flatlined."

Nicely put amiga. Succinct and swift. Sorry to see the lovely Ana Brenda go but happy that she is making her way in American television. As I understand it, that's the bottom line for every actor in these telenovelas...get into American films or TV. I wish her well.

Carlos always loved her dimples so I'm glad he's not around to see this telenovela demise. Many thanks for your faithful work and hope that you are enjoying your week of Wagnerian Opera.

Recap of last night's episode will post at 11AM.

No chance in hell of Ricardo and Carlos becoming friends. There is too long a history of their rivalry going back to college.

Carlos will probably get his Karmageddon this season. However, I do hope he finds out about Alan being Patricia's killer before that happens because that was the tap on the first domino in the chain of his life going downhill.

Gracias, JudyB. The Ring is almost as exhausting for the audience as it is for anyone who performs in it.

Die Walkure is the one that always gets me. Brunnhilde is played as though she is about 18 years old, which is almost the age at which I lost my father. I always cry at the ending when Wotan puts her to sleep on the mountaintop and commands Loge to place the protective fire around her. Michael Volle and Christine Goerke were incredible in that scene.

People show up with horned helmets for this event. I have a warrior crown suitable foro Brunnhilde, so I wore it.

I didn't get into Game of Thrones when it started; it's time I fixed that.

So sorry that you lost your father at such a young and vulnerable age UA. We always carry those losses in our hearts, and so many things can trigger a memory, especially music.

I am enjoying visualizing you with a warrior crown though, striding through the streets of NYC.

And glad to know that there is one other person in the Universe who has not seen Game of Thrones.
