Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Martes 4/30/19, Episode 35: Thy Will Be Done
I'm
Christopher Mason. The only true democratic force in the world is
death. It comes to everyone and it doesn't care whether it is fair
or not. Living wills have been around for a while but not everyone
can take the responsibility of carrying them out any more than others
can take responsibility for provoking the death in the first place.
I'm
Candice DeLong. Death doesn't discriminate and it is frequently
premature. Especially when it results from violence.
Carlos
told Ricardo to fight for Alejandra's life. He then left quietly,
leaving Ricardo to think about it.
Over
red wine and what looked like chocolate cake Adrián asked Victoria
about her family. She told him that she normally does not discuss
her private life. After he made a joking comment about noting that
this information was pending, she told him that she was an only
daughter, that her parents loved her, and that they taught her
responsibility in all things. Neither of them had been lawyers. In
her life she had learned many things and the one thing she can't
allow is for people to abuse others. He liked this. She talked
about having good friends who listen to problems and give good
advice. He was liking her more and more, saying he loved talking to
her. “The more you tell me the more I want to know you better.”
She said she wasn't that interesting and suggested that they get some
rest.
Roberto
thinks he has something to worry about. The attractive Spaniard is
competing with him on two fronts. But is he sincere or is he a player?
Is that what Victoria is worried about?
Ricardo
talked with the others, talking about how he was losing her just as
they were about to fulfill their dreams. Juan told him to think
about how he had been able to talk to her and know that she loved
him. Gustavo spoke of how the hardest thing was losing loved ones.
He began to cry as he said they are never gone, they are always with
them.
The
next morning Dr Ramos was at the police station accompanied by Lorena
and Manuel. His son, Beto, didn't seem to understand why he had been
left there all night. His father answered “So you learn the
consequences of your actions.” Lorena handed the documents to the
DA. Beto would be on a year's probation. She added the check
paying for the stolen items and Beto made a verbal apology. The
final decision was that no further action would be taken and he was
free to go. Lorena thanked Manuel for his help. He took her hands
in his.
It
looks like there's another office romance on the horizon. Someone
needs to warn these kids about how unwise this is.
Jaime
spoke to the others, thanking them for their support on behalf of
himself, Paula, and Ricardo. [Editing department lost the sappier
repetitive stuff. We don't apologize for this.] He and Ricardo
then said that they were going to respect her decision to not
maintain her life artificially.
This
is a situation that affects everyone, rich and poor. It often
creates major conflicts within families, so among rivals it can be
poisonous. We suspect that this is the calm before the storm.
Dr
Ramos thanked Lorena and Manuel, who told him he didn't have to thank
them; they were doing their duty. His son came out saying that it
had been the worst night of his life and all for a foolish trick. He
thanked Lorena, shook her hand, then left with his father.
Carlos
begged Ricardo not to disconnect the breathing machine. Ricardo said
that he could not allow Alejandra to continue paralyzed in a bed,
unable to live the life she wanted. Because he loved her he
understood that she couldn't live that way. They had to respect her
wishes. He then looked into Carlos' eyes and told him to swear he
had not done anything. Carlos was almost unintelligible in his
response, saying he was thinking about how she was going to have a
good life without him. Ricardo stared for a moment then said it was
time. Carlos stopped him as he turned away and asked him to wait.
Ricardo told him that this was a family decision and he agreed with
it. He then walked away toward Jaime and Paula.
While
Manuel and Lorena were leaving the police station to celebrate,
Adrián
and Victoria went over the documents they had on the way to their
meeting. They explained to Officer Butler that they needed to find
Andres Camacho because they believed he planned the arrest of his
wife so that he could take his daughter out of the country. He also
was expected in court and didn't appear, so they had a summons from
the court in Mexico City. They handed it to Officer Butler, who said
it was in order. He then made a call.
Manuel
and Lorena ate a luxurious breakfast and talked about their future
specialties. He talked about a thesis and then asked her about
having time for a life. To see friends and a boyfriend. She told
him she didn't have one. He asked if there was any prospect and she
said yes, but he didn't notice her. He looked very disappointed.
As
they left the police station in Austin Victoria and Adrián talked
about how Andres Camacho must have been planning this for a long
time. He looked at his watch and saw that they had just enough time
to see the judge about extradition and went on their way.
Everyone
else was in the hospital waiting room as Ricardo, Paula, and Jaime
returned. Paula was like a sleepwalker, mute and staring. Ricardo
told everyone that they had complied with her wishes and she had just
died. Carlos heard this and nearly became hysterical as Alonso
embraced Paula and Jaime. Carlos
got angry and accused Ricardo of killing Alejandra as he walked out.
Lourdes cried as she held Paula.
Where
the hell was Alicia in all this when Paula needed her? This didn't
look good.
Adrián
and Victoria met with Judge Smith regarding their case. They had
learned from Border Protection and Immigration that Andres Camacho
had been at the same Austin address five times in the past year.
They handed him the file and the translation. The judge said that
while Andres Camacho had committed no felonies in the US that they
were aware of they were obliged to honor all international
agreements. He could arrange for local police to arrest him so the
summons could be delivered. He asked if they had a photo of him and
they did not, but Victoria said she could identify him. She asked to
accompany the police. The judge agreed to that.
Texans
always boast of how big everything is there. That office is a great
example.
Carlos
went home and got hysterical by himself. “No, no! Why? Why? We
should be married. You can't be dead!”
He
should be asking himself why he got involved with El Ciego.
Victoria
and Adrián talked about next steps, which would be happening the
next day. They were surprised at getting help so quickly but
Victoria was sure it was the idea of Sol being so far away from her
mother. There was nothing else to do at the moment so they decided
to look around the city.
Roberto
told Nicolás about what happened and they talked about living wills.
Nicolás told him that human beings are more than mere bodies. He
didn't want to live beyond his ability to enjoy life and told Roberto
he wanted such a document. Roberto was a little scared, but Nicolás
reminded him that they will all die and it could be very sudden. He
wanted to be prepared. They hugged. Roberto looked a bit
frightened.
Camila
was sitting in front of the house that night when Sofia came home.
She had trouble trying to open the door. Sofia took out her keys and
they got in; there was something wrong with Camila. She had been
sitting outside for a while and Sofia told her she should have called
her. Camila said she didn't want to bother her at her work. Sofia
told her to relax and she would make some tea.
Nicolás
told Roberto not to be afraid. He would always be with him even when
he was gone. He would be in his memories. He would also have his
friends who would be there for him. He then asked about Victoria and
Roberto explained she was out of town and he had not yet given her
the bad news. Nicolás told him he should be the one to tell her, so he took out
his cell.
Victoria
and Adrián were having drinks in a bar and talking about going out
to a restaurant when Roberto called. Victoria answered and he told
her Alejandra had died. She asked what happened.
Up
until now Carlos has shown no conscience about what he does to get
what he wants. If he had any consideration for Alejandra at all, he
should be feeling very guilty now.
This
is certainly true, and also – true to form – he doesn't seem to
be taking any responsibility for it. He obviously didn't have a
father like Dr Ramos. His love of money and possessions has brought
him to a dangerous pass. Unlike Ricardo he has no friends to help
him and he has two predators who merely pretend to be friends. He
can't look over both shoulders at once. Until next we meet Behind

Thanks UA. I'm glad I didn't see this. Have been at two many deathbeds in my life, and just reading your account of Alejandra's demise, found myself tearing up. As much as I know and accept that our life here has both a beginning and an end, I struggle emotionally with seeing people die, whether in real life or in a drama.
On the other hand I especially appreciated this and your wry humor:

Yes, we experienced telenovela viewers pretty much know those lines by heart already. Or as Melinama used to say "His lines, her lines"

The fact that Alejandra died as soon as they disconnected her means she was already dead and only the machine was truly keeping her alive.
Carlos will not take responsibility for his actions and I believe he lied to Ricardo when he said he didn't say anything to Ale to upset her. Jaime should've been in or around the room for Carlos' visit. Carlos really didn't have any right to be there.

Anon207, I guess Carlos didn't *technically* say anything to upset Alejandra...it was the fact that he *didn't* say anything that upset her. But he's always been a liar, so that's a specious distinction.

Jaime was right in everything he told Ricardo and Ric knew it to be true. Carlos, however, is a different story. He caused Alejandra’s setback. He knew she caught him.
So what’s up with Camila? Health issue or is she just a scatter brain?
I feel bad that Victoria wasn’t there when Ale died. She saw that Ale was doing better before she left.
I’m sure new characters will be added but I’m curious as to where the story will go from here. Will they catch the perpetrators? Will there be a third season? Will more characters (lawyers) die?

UA—Great recap to what otherwise would have been a very sappy episode. Thank ;you. I thought Paula’s bedside prose was exceptional. I’m going to remember it. Yes, Jaime was magnificent. Rick came around in the end.

So, the two teenage attorneys got off easy. I personally think they could have really made a teaching moment out of the dilemma of a father choosing punishment and the son actually being hurt overnight. Ah, well, they are young and inexperienced, so I guess and easy case was just their ticket.
Though Vicky had a right to know about Ale, and that it should be Bobby, his timing was terrible for any incipient romance. Vicky was just letting down her guard and allowing her “gated community” to open a crack to a visitor. I hope she doesn’t fall apart after the call. She needs to be on message the next day in order to identify Camacho.

Oh, JudyB, BTW—I watched three or four episodes of Game of Thrones at the start. It didn’t catch my interest in the least. Does that count? Too gruesome, too grey, too wet and muddy, no character worth investing my time in. Five years is a long time to keep up someone’s interest, but there you have me, I’m a sucker for Outlander.
The previews showed everyone gathered around Ale's gravesite so I think there will be a funeral.

There was a one-sided phone call that Roberto was on in which he thanked Leonardo for checking in. Then he told someone (Rick? Gus? Alonso?) that Leo and Olivia send their best wishes for Ale's recovery and to let them know of any developments. In real life, would they come to the funeral?

Wow, this was a hard episode. Thanks for re-capping, UA.
Even though we figured she was going to depart this show and life, we've watched enough tn's to know that she could take another last breath and come to. In fact, I kept thinking they'd put a bell with a string on her coffin so she'd be a dead ringer when she came to, and dare I say it... saved by the bell, but the previews for tonight just showed a plain coffin. Sob!
I wonder if they'll leave her on the opening credits?
I'm disappointed we won't get the satisfaction of watching Ale figure out that Carlos has been money laundering for El Ciego using the foundation. That could have been gold, and I had been anticipating it.
Didn't any of the hospital staff hear her screaming at Carlos asking who he had been talking to? She was so close to figuring out who kidnapped Papa. I hope there is a thread for Ricardo to follow. She briefly mentioned it to him.
Judy, I also have not watched Game of Thrones, but when Blue Lass randomly texted me WINTER IS COMING in all caps, I thought maybe I should give it a go this next winter.

Roberto would have had no way of knowing that his timing was bad. Remember, also, we hear Adrian saying he respects women, but we have yet to see him prove it in court or in a relationship. I hope they don't decide to shock us and make him an abuser.
Oh, I hope he isn't an abuser. I think he's just a boring, but beautiful, guy. Victoria isn't up to being a risk taker right now, and Adrian doesn't seem that much of a risk. I think the boring part of Adrian will be appealing to Victoria.

I think Alonso's children live in other countries.
Carlos is sick. Had he not had the problem of being framed for murder and had he married Alejandra he would have become even more possessive and controlling. They were not compatible anyway because he was all about money and she was all about justice for the deserving. Ricardo was her true soulmate.
And -- excuse me -- Carlos isn't handsome, either.

I believe Alonso has a daughter and 2 sons ... Ricardo, Roberto & Victoria are the "replacement children". I think they're estranged because he was working all the time.
Being that Leonardo & Olivia are in the United States and the rest of the gang is in Mexico and Alejandra is not an immediate family member of either, I'm not sure Leo or Olivia would be able to attend unless Ale's funeral was on a Saturday. A lot of workplaces aren't really trying to give you time off for a funeral for somebody not in your immediate family.
