Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Lunes 4/8/19, Episode 19: Mothers

El Ciego dropped in on Carlos at the office and got the good news that El Chivo was freed, but it would cost him. Carlos tried to explain that they were lucky this time but he could not guarantee that this success would happen every time. El Ciego wasn't taking this.

Victoria sat around her apartment, thinking about the last time she and Roberto dined together.

Alejandra and Ricardo declared their love for each other, saying that nothing would separate them now. We'll see, as these are often ominous words. The following morning he talked about finding a new apartment, one that would be theirs. He wanted her to go with him for the search. They seemed to go for Round 2 (or more).

Sofia and Victoria met in the health club, where they worked out together.

Adrián looked over documents and got the clerk to make copies for him.

Gustavo went to court for David Aguirre and explained that he had complied with all the court requirements but that his ex (Valeria) was preventing him from seeing his daughter. She immediately stood up and denied having done this, saying that it wasn't her fault that he daughter didn't want to see her father. The judge rapped for silence, then had Gustavo continue. He said that his client had always had a good relationship with his daughter, which provoked the ex's lawyer to get up and say that the child had expressed a wish to be away from her father. Gustavo then said that they should have a psychologist determine the truth. Opposing counsel whispered to his client, then said that the child is a minor who required a mother's care and therefore could not see her father. Gustavo submitted documents stating that his client hadn't seen his daughter in four months. Opposing counsel said that without bad faith on his client's part Sr Aguirre was permitted to see his child at school activities, etc., which provoked an explosive objection from Gustavo. The judge rapped his gavel and told him to respect the court. Gustavo apologized to the judge.

Roberto dropped in on Ricardo in his office to hear his good news about Alejandra. Since he was mostly not his usual cheerful self, Ricardo got him talking about what went wrong with himself and Victoria. Ricardo finally offered to talk to her, but Roberto said not to bother. Adrián called with good news, that they have a summons out for Mónica. The two headed out post haste to get Juan and go with Sonia to Mónica's house.

Gustavo requested that his client be granted custody if his ex refused to comply with the court decision in place. Valeria got up to say “You can't do this. You can't take away my little girl!” Gustavo said that she should not risk losing her daughter. Valeria's lawyer said that this was a mistake and Gustavo pointed out that his client had dutifully and punctually paid the required child support and respected his visitation schedule. Valeria's lawyer asked for time for them to work out an agreement. Gustavo told the court that he had tried that and it had not worked. They could not count on Valeria keeping her word. The judge asked Valeria's lawyer if he had anything else to say in her defense. He said that a girl is better off with her mother because they are both female. That her father doesn't know Jack about raising a girl. Gustavo said this was irrelevant; his client was a good father who would not take the child away from her mother. Valeria's lawyer asked the judge to allow his client to have custody and said that this incident will not be repeated. The judge told them to sit and he would deliver his decision. After quoting the law citations he granted custody to David, with modification TBD of child support and regarding visitation schedule for Valeria.

Adrián went to Sonia's office to give her a copy of the charges that Mónica has made against Dr Lara. She had accused him of medical negligence regarding her son and she had lost. Sonia was her usual tight-arsed self saying that she doubted this would stand up in court. She would file it but it was not a priority. Adrián said he was satisfied at having brought this to her attention.

Nancy and Officer Álvarez went to see a judge in his chambers to change Álvarez's statement. He spoke saying that possession of the gun did not mean that El Chivo had done the shooting. Nancy looked at both of them.

As Gustavo and his client left the courthouse hoping that this would finally end the vitriol, Valeria came up from behind, calling her ex a desgraciado. He told her that she provoked this. She threatened that this was not over and Gustavo told her that she will comply with the judge's orders or there will be problems. Valeria hit with a very low blow, saying he was evil and that he should suffer the loss of a child and finally that he did not have God's forgiveness.

The judge told Nancy that there needed to be proof if a policeman is changing his statement. She told him that there was no other proof and the judge asked Álvarez to leave him to talk privately with Nancy. When he was out of the room the judge told her that this was for the courtroom, not his chambers. She talked about making sure that everything was in order to prevent wasting the court's time. Of course in the process she touched his hand to say she understood his situation because she had worked in the police station but how could he present this case when the only statement against her client had changed? He should be looking for the actual killer and bringing in a case he would win. Before he could answer she told him to think about it and then left his office.

Mónica was going through some paperwork when the pounding on the door started. She got up to answer. Sonia handed her the summons and said she was to present herself at the police station regarding her involvement in the death of Dr Lara. She said she had no idea what they were talking about and Juan tried to get her to cooperate. Sonia got impatient and ordered her to come with them. She tried to close the door in their faces but they pushed back. She ran into her son's room and they followed. She begged them not to take her because her son depended entirely on her, If she was not there he would die. So, who was with him when you were boinking Rafael Olmos?

Javier brought Alonso up to date on the murder case. The ballistics report indicated that the bullets had come from an illegal class of firearms, so they were dealing with arms dealers. There was a connexion to San Benito. Alonso wanted to talk to Quiroz, but Javier said he didn't trust the police and preferred to work alone.

Mónica continued to plead to be left with her son. Ricardo tried to get Sonia to be a little compassionate and take Mónica's statement there. Sonia would not agree to this. Roberto tried and she became very unprofessional in the way she argued with them in front of Mónica and the uniformed police. Finally the police started to drag her away, Sonia said she would get DIEF involved, and Mónica broke away to kneel in front of Ricardo to beg his help.

Alonso and Javier contined discussing the situation with Javier reluctantly agreeing to do things Alonso's way.

Ricardo finally got Mónica to give him the name of the nurse whom she trusted but could not pay.
They dragged her out. The boy's breathing became agitated. Ricardo and Juan stayed with the boy while Adrián and Roberto went to contact someone.

Nancy went to see El Chivo and told him he should hope that what she had done does the trick.

Gustavo told Alonso how his case went and how nasty Valeria was to him on the way out. Alonso told him this had nothing to do with him. All Gustavo wanted to do was to forget this and Alonso told him he couldn't change the past, only learn from it. He should also not take on guilt he doesn't deserve. It was time to move on. Gustavo calmed down a little and said he was right. On to the next case.

Ricardo called the nurse to get her to come over. Juan found the record book of the boy's medical bills, which were very high. He felt very bad for her. Ricardo reminded him that as tragic as this situation was, it did not justify murder. She had used Rafael and there would be consequences. Juan realized he was right. Ricardo called Alejandra to come over to help with the child.

Alan talked on his cell with the two young guys who had decided to sell. He was clearly hoping that this would ultimately make a rainmaker of him because he expected that they would get this client's entire legal business. Carlos said he should take this little by little. In fact, he looked like he still had doubts.

The nurse told Ricardo and Juan that the child needed lots of attention, oxygen, meds, and therapy and this situation is only making him worse. Alejandra tried to assure them that DIEF would help because the boy needed specialists.

Mónica denied having anything to do with Dr Lara's murder. She even denied knowing Rafael when he entered the room.

An ambulance came to take Ivan to a pediatric hospital. The nurse handed the medication to the doctor as Ivan was put on a gurney and taken out.

Rafael identified Mónica, who continued to deny any connexion to this. The lawyers all tag-teamed in their interrogation until she broke down (?) saying everything she did was for her son.

Sorry this is late; I thought I had posted this on timer.

Thanks, Urban! Cracking episode!

I thought I was managing pretty well with my old beanie, but it fell to pieces after Alejandra told the two ambulance attendants, who work at at children's hospital, fijate, that they needed to be very careful loading the child onto the stretcher. I think I may need one that ties under the chin.

Thanks UA!

This could be totally far fetched but I’m wondering if Monica suffers from Munchausens. She obviously could just be negligent but I think something else is going on.

Gustavo needs a better coping strategy than immersing himself in work.

OMG, TF, that would be amazing -- then if she does go to jail, the kid might get better.

TF, I had a similar thought although mine is more mercenary in that she may have done something to create a situation where she could win a huge settlement. Since security cameras are such a big deal and she hasn't been away from Ivan in a long time, let's see if someone demands the security camera footage from the original hospital visit (if that still exists).

Thanks, UA, for the recap. They really help me understand what's what.

From yesterday, Anonymous, thanks for the clarification on the use of the word "joven". I thought it only applied to young men. Last night I was recalling when I was in vacation in Mexico and the gal in front of me called the 40 year old cabana boy "joven". I just thought she had bad eyesight.

That being said, I still think it is funny how they baby Juan so much. I agree that this may be the season of his growth, and that will be an appealing subplot to watch. I wish he'd get another chance to sing on the show. What a voice!

That was absolutely unconscionable how Sonia dragged Monica away before the nurse had arrived. She leaves a medically dependent little guy to be watched by attorneys she herself seems to have little patience for?

Did anyone else think that David (the father who was granted custody) showed a sinister face after the judge's decision? I hope we don't hear down the road that he is a bad father.

I love the idea of a Munchausens angle! Ivan was aware enough to know that *something* was going on. Maybe Monica just keeps him drugged up?

R la O

I have suspected something about Monica ever since the scene where she told herself that it was all worth it. The expressions on her son's face later said more.

As to David, I think his look is a little suspect, but his ex's behavior in the Vega office more so. That she got riled up over the possibility of her daughter being seen by a child psychologist was immediately suspect. I was thinking that she was a hair away from accusing him of molesting their daughter and she may make such an accusation if we see them again. Since they didn't bring the child into the courtroom, the writers could be saving up their energy for such a story in the future.

R la O, last time I was in Mexico I noticed that diners called all the waiters "joven," no matter how joven they were(n't.) I guess it's the equivalent of "garcon!"

Um... Blue. I just looked up garcon and it is a bobbed haircut?

Thanks, Urban.

Looking forward to finding out the truth about Monica.

I'm with Javier. Alonso is being naive.

Thanks for the recap. This one is rather heart breaking. The children suffer when adults act stupid.

Whats the reason For Val not leting her hubby see the little girl? She is filled with so much hate for the daddy
Why?

Monica brought It on herself and now her son is stuck without a mom. From what I saw it wasn't that much damage to her face.
She should've looked at her son and she should have weighed what's much more important, revenge or caring for her son. She dropped the moma ball with this one.Now shes a prison inmate and her son is surrounded by strangers
She was so sad pleading Ricky for help
And the DA seemed so cold, (which is her usual demeaner). Ricardo was right "as Tragic as itwas it did not justify
Murder". And Rafael shouldn't get off either, He executed that man.

Somebody tell Nancy to cover up her bra And don't use it as a blouse. It's A BRA.

Thank you Urban :-)
