Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Martes 4/23/19, Episode 30: The Blame Game
I'm
Christopher Mason. When one crisis is followed by another no one is
safe. Even those who manage not to be hit in a gangland shootout
will never be the same because of what they have seen. This will
affect how they manage their work and their lives. People who get
involved with the criminals in these cases never think about the
consequences until they are caught up in it. Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder is contagious and Blame is everywhere.
I'm
Candice DeLong. Crime causes a ripple effect on the people around
its primary victims. That is why punishment needs to remain severe.
Quiróz
questioned a waiter about what happened. He described seeing four
men shooting against two others, but didn't see the shooters well.
Quiróz asked one of his men to commandeer an office for the rest of
the interviews and told the waiter that anything he could remember
would be helpful.
Roberto
went to get more coffee.
Adri
án
came down and sat next to Victoria. It had all happened so fast that
neither could remember details. Victoria became angry that after all
this time of looking for them they attacked again and they didn't
note the details. Adrián told her that they were all looking to
protect themselves. Victoria said that it could not go on like this.
She started to calm down and Roberto returned with her coffee. He
and Adrián looked at each other as Victoria excused herself and left.
Adrián said he came to see if he could help. Roberto told him
“Thanks, but she knows she has me.”
Victoria
returned to where the others were. Carlos and Ricardo were carefully
avoiding each other as Alan tried to persuade Carlos to leave.
Victoria told Ricardo he would have to muster all his strength.
Adrián and Roberto returned, neither willing to let the other out of
his sight. Paula and Jaime came out and told the others that
Alejandra's condition was very serious. She had lost a lot of blood
and was very weak. Ricardo asked whether she needed blood and
whether they could see her. Jaime told him that she was fully
sedated for now. Carlos stepped in front of him to tell Alejandra's
parents that she was the strongest woman he knew and she would be
alright. Paula told Ricardo that this was the longest and most
difficult night of her life. The others looked on, not knowing what
to say.
El
Ciego sat in his hideout, looking at the bullets in a box. El Chivo
arrived at the Blind Man's Lair and reported that there was no word
on the street about El Gringo. They seemed to have gone into hiding.
The four who attacked could not be found either. El Ciego was not
pleased and was possibly drunk. He said “You have seen death
because you are with me. This should be very amusing to see them
fall” and fired his pistol to the side with a cry. El Chivo looked
afraid.
If
I were El Chivo I'd be making plans to get lost.
Everyone
from Vega tried to assure Ricardo that Alejandra would recover.
Ricardo swore they would find the guilty parties.
Lourdes and Alicia
arrived to support Paula. Alicia handed her some tea which she had
no will to drink.
The three ladies sat in the comfy chairs as Alonso
and Jaime talked behind them.
Javier
took his leave, telling Ricardo to call him if he needed him. He was
going home to rest before working hard the next day. Some of the
others left one by one. Carlos did not want to leave despite the
lateness of the hour. He complained that things were taking too
long, that he had the money to get Alejandra to a better hospital.
Alan tried to convince him that this was a good hospital, the
ambulance had arrived on time, and the staff was doing everything
possible. Carlos said he had money to help, but “those idiots”
wouldn't leave him alone. Alan asked if he thought the hitmen were
after him or El Ciego and Carlos said he didn't know. He was feeling
guilty because he went there to stop Ricardo from presenting the
engagement ring and never anticipated that this could happen. Alan
said nothing, but his face said he thought Carlos a total fool.
Carlos
may not have grown up wealthy, but that has not prevented him from
blieving that money can buy everything.
The
next morning a doctor told Jaime and Paula that there had been no
change in Alejandra's condition which – in view of the
circumstances – was a good thing. He allowed them to see her but
only for a few minutes. Only three people were permitted and they
needed to be quiet. He told them this was not the news they were
waiting for but recovery from something this serious takes time.
Ricardo approached them and Jaime told him that Alejandra was stable.
He said he wanted to see her and the three were ready to go when
Carlos approached Paula and said he needed to see Alejandra. Paula
told him that only three visitors were permitted so he would need to
wait until she was better.
He became insistent, which drew the anger
of Ricardo, who pulled him back. This would have only gotten worse
except for Jaime, who stepped him and sternly told Carlos to leave.
He obeyed.
Carlos
never really had Jaime's approval. It's too bad that his arrogance
prevented him from realizing that.
Sofia
looked at the morning paper and saw that there was no news. Camila
reminded her that she had warned her that something like this could
happen.... and gave her the standard parental guilt trip.
Fortunately, a call from Alonso summoning her to the office spared
her much more of this.
Paula
entered the ICU first. She felt Alejandra's legs and asked whether
she was cold. She massaged her feet as she talked to her, saying she
had to recover, that she needed her. She tried not to cry.
Roberto
escorted Victoria home. She sat down on the sofa and said she was
alright. He didn't want to leave her alone. She thanked him for his
concern but told him not to worry. Now was not the time to talk
about what had gone wrong with their relationship. He told her to
call if she needed anything, then he left.
Lorena
and Manuel talked in the library. She recalled the sounds of bullets
and screaming and was still afraid. Sofia arrived and said they all
needed to be strong for Alejandra and they needed now to prepare for
a meeting with Alonso.
Adrián
spoke on the phone to someone who needed to consult with superiors
about information he was looking for, telling them that time was of
the essence. He then took a call regarding an early court date. He
looked a little worried as he said “See you in court.”
Carlos
sat on his couch drinking coffee and staring into space while Alan
was on the phone with an event planner. He hung up to tell Carlos
that they had attendance confirmations. Carlos said it didn't
matter. Alan reminded him that he put him in charge of this so he
could think about other things but Carlos didn't care. He wanted
Alejandra there with him after she got out of the hospital. If she
didnt recover before it he said he wanted to cancel it. Alan told him
that the invitations had all gone out. “Until Alejandra is well,
there is no event.” They argued about this. Alan tried fighting back, saying Carlos couldn't do this. “This isn't about you,” Carlos said. “I know, but we've both worked so hard on this.” Alan reminded him that they would lose money on this but Carlos didn't care. “I've made the decision,” he said, as he went up the stairs.
Carlos
was still under the delusion that he would own Alejandra's heart.
Ricardo
entered Alejandra's room, telling her to hear him and get well. He
took out the ring and talked about how he had waited for the right
moment to give it to her.
He knelt at her bedside and put it on her
finger, talking about their plans and promises. He continued to tell
her how many people loved her and wanted her to get well.
Here
he seemed to have crowned himself king. Another delusion since he is
also the slave of a criminal.
Fernanda
came to Susanna's house to ask about Juan. Susanna told her he was
very affected by what happened. Fernanda showed her the news story
on her phone. Juan came out, not in his usual positive mood. He had
slept “more or less” but couldn't get the sounds or images of the
incident out of his mind. The same mother-themed comments from
Susanna. Juan told her he was alright and that he loved them both.
He hugged both of them.
There
was tension in the conference room as they waited for Alonso. Javier
thought they were wasting time and Sofia told everyone not to be
nervous. Alonso arrived and gave them the justice speech, telling
them they were the future of the firm and that they needed to commit
themselves to making the world a more just place. He asked whether
he could count on them. Sofia was the first to agree, followed by
all the others. Including Javier, who asked what he wanted them to
do. He told them that the others needed help with their cases. All
agreed to each other, etc.
Jaime
went in to see Alejandra. He told her he thought of her during his
kidnapping, which gave him the strength to endure this. He cried as
he told her she was stronger than he was and that she would have a
good life. He kissed her before replacing the mask.
Leonardo
called Ricardo upon hearing the news. Ricardo was still in the
hospital reception area with Paula. He encouraged her to go home and
rest, but she would not. Ricardo was feeling guilty, saying he would
give his life for her. Paula told him that Alejandra would do the
same for him. He told her he put the ring on her finger so she would
see it when she woke up. They cried and held hands.
Adrián
called Victoria to check up on her and to tell her that the court
date would be the next day. Victoria was upset because she felt they
weren't ready and she needed to be there for Violeta. Adrián told
her she could count on him. She knew she could trust him with this
but felt she needed to be there. After ending the call she prepared
to go to the office.
Sofia
went through Alejandra's cases and discovered she had nothing
pending. There were two pending cases of Ricardo's, one about
custody and the other about child support. Lorena volunteered to
take those on.
Alan
was doing the same with Carlos' clients. Nancy knew that these were
important clients and was confused; Alan told her that Carlos was
going through some heavy personal stuff. She asked what and he told
her. That was why he was in charge and she was to do as she was
told.
Nancy
could – if she wanted to – play these two cousins against each
other. Of course, she doesn't know that Alan killed the prostitute.
Yet.
Victoria
and Adrián discussed their case. They needed to prove that Andres
was lying and Violeta was telling the truth. The complication is
that her mother was regarded as an accomplice. Victoria said that
Andres' failure to show up would work in their favor because he left
the country with his daughter without Violeta's permission. She left
his office, telling him she was alright and not to worry. He looked
as though he was worried about her... and whether she would be free.
El
Ciego called Carlos, who blamed him for what happened to Alejandra.
El Ciego said he wanted to talk to him face to face. He would send
someone for him. He then ended the call. Carlos looked very
nervous.
Carlos
should be packing a suitcase and getting on a plane to the other side
of the planet. El Ciego is not going to admit anything.
Of
course not. Unless he wants Carlos to squirm more than he has, and
I'm sure he will. He has as much dirt on Carlos as anyone can so if
El Ciego goes down he will take Carlos with him. Carlos hasn't
appeared to know that and now is a time when he is in no position to
prepare for it. He still doesn't know that it was El Ciego who was
behind Jaime Ponce's kidnapping, which would lead to his complete
undoing. Time will tell. Until next we meet Behind the Walls of
Justice, I'm Christopher Mason.
