I'm
Christopher Mason. In the pursuit of justice some people forget that
for society to be orderly and functional law enforcement needs to
left to do their duty. There is sometimes good reason not to think
they are, but that unless higher authorities agree it isn't
considered a valid reason to take the law in one's own hands.
I'm
Candice DeLong. People can have the most understandable motives for
revenge, but they are breaking the law just the same. This is a
lesson that is not easily learned.
Mónica
said she did everything for her son. And cried.
Javier
visited Quiróz who told him that the weapons used in the killing had
been smuggled in from El Norte. Javier said he needed to find the
connexion to Jacinto Dorante. Quiróz told him that this is where
they are focusing the investigation. Also that he would be in charge
of the investigation.
Mónica
said – in front of two Vega lawyers, Rafael, and Sonia – that
three years previously her son had an infection that led to a severe
fever. She had gone to Dr Lara where they waited for two hours, was
told that he was on his way, and in the end waited for eight hours.
They tried to bring down the fever but it didn't come down until
dawn. [Can someone make sense of this incoherence?] The child was
left prostrate in bed. The hospital told her that this had been
preventable. Adrian asked what had happened in court. She replied
that she didn't know other than the judge saying that the doctor had
not been negligent, that he had done all he could. Rafael said he
understood why she wanted the doctor dead but that he didn't deserve
to have his life destroyed like this. Sonia then told her that she
was detained n suspicion of being the mastermind of the murder.
Mónica stood up and got hysterical about them taking her child.
Sonia pulled back the gate and told her not to worry because her son
would be alright. Mónica begged not to be arrested, but Sonia
instructed the police to arrest her.
She almost dragged her to the
door to the waiting police.
This
woman eats drama for breakfast.
Back
at the office Alejandra told her colleagues that Mónica's son was in
the pediatric institute. They saw a case of malpractice. Ricardo
said that he wanted to talk to Mónica. He wanted to calm her down
by assuring her that Ivan was in good hands. Roberto said he would
talk to his father to get a recommendation for a good doctor. They
talked about the defense but Alejandra and Ricardo reminded the
others that the priority now is the boy. Ricardo said that cases
don't end with the sentence; they needed to find help for the boy.
Nancy
sauntered into Carlos' office to tell him that El Chivo had been
freed, since the cop changed his statement.
Carlos said “Good job”
which prompted her to handle his tie in a way that said she'd rather
be handling something else. He said this was an excellent
demonstration of her abilities. “This and more you don't know
about,” she said, as she left.
Carlos
could not have missed the phallic significance of her handling his
tie. If I read him correctly, it looks as though he's fantasizing
what abilities she is really looking to show off.
Adrián
volunteered to visit Mónica with the news and left the office.
Alejandra told Juan he shouldn't be taking on so much. He said he
felt really bad for this woman. Roberto told him not to take on any
guilt about this and not to feel bad. Juan apologized, excused
himself, and left Ricardo's office. The others talked about how he
will learn not to take so much of this upon himself.
Manuel came in
and handed documents to Alejandra regarding security tapes, then went
back to work. Roberto left to call his father and Alejandra was
about to leave to continue the investigation into her father's
kidnapping. Ricardo told her he didn't want her doing this for the
sake of her safety. He told her that the only suspect they had in
the killing of Gustavo's family turned up dead, which meant that
there is an information leak. He told her to leave this with Quiróz,
but she refused.
The
Golden Girls drank wine and played poker at Paula's house. Alicia
and she asked Lourdes about how things were going with Alonso and she
didn't want to talk. She was finally cajoled into telling them that
Alonso had been a bit distant for the past few days. They encouraged
her to call him.
Ricardo
told Alejandra he understood, but continued to worry about her
safety. He wouldn't be able to take it if anything happened to her.
She told him that this had been the hardest experience of her life,
finally telling him she is only going through documents. She told
him she was going to review what she had and that she would be
careful. He offered to take her home.
Juan
arrived home to find his mother and Fernanda waiting for him. He
told them the bad news about Mónica. As shocking as this was,
Susanna said nothing justified killing another person.
Ricardo
took Alejandra home and found the Golden Girls talking about Lourdes'
stalled love life. Ricardo told Paula he would spend his life making
Alejandra happy. All approved of him. Alicia was caught by surprise
when Alejandra asked about Gilberto, who was still out of town.
Carlos
spoke to El Ciego to tell him that El Chivo was freed. This was
worth the 300,000 pesos (a little under $16K US) it would cost
him.
He was pleased but told Carlos he was anticipating work
problems and he was to be alert because he might need him again soon.
Carlos was not happy about this.
Carlos
had been lucky for quite a while. He has managed to keep his
connexion to El Ciego under wraps. But his cousin Alan is not a good
repository for secrets. Nor will Nancy be if she doesn't get what
she wants.
Juan
talked to his mother and Fernanda about Mónica, emphasizing her
maternal worries and her financial situation. He said that everyone
has the right to a good defense. Susana told him he was right, but
he shouldn't get so involved, since this woman didn't look lily-white
in this situation.
The
next morning Roberto's father came to the office with him. Nicolás
had a good time greeting the ladies. He felt a chill wind blowing in
their interaction with Victoria. Roberto told him that things had
gone south and Nicolás told him that everything has a solution.
They headed for Roberto's office.
Gustavo
was speaking to a realtor when Alonso entered his office. Both had
prospects for new housing and Alonso said that he was sure this
change would do them good.
Roberto
took his father to Alejandra's office and they sat down to discuss
the case. He recommended a doctor who knew many rehabilitation
specialists and gave her his contact information.
Manuel
and Lorena met in the library and talked briefly about their current
situations. He had extra work because he was a semester short of
graduation. Things in the real world didn't look the same as what
they imagined in school.
Alejandra
spoke to Dr Moises and made an appointment with him the next day to
discuss the case. She and Ricardo agreed to go out later.
Adrián and Juan talked abut the case. They were to go through the security
videos from Rafael's place of work to find one with him and Mónica
together, which would no longer permit her to deny having known him.
Adrian took a call from Sonia in which she told him that Rafael would
be in front of the judge the next day, so they needed to get together
with Roberto and Ricardo to prepare their case. Juan brought up
Mónica's defense and Adrian said that she didn't have much in her
favor.
No
judge in his right mind would allow her to get away with this.
Manuel
delivered copies of the security videos to Alejandra.
She looked at
the video, then played it back. She got up and bolted out of her
office.
Roberto
told his father what happened with Victoria, saying that it was all a
misunderstanding. He had tried to explain it to her but she would
not believe him. Nicolás advised him to be patient and give it some
time. He was having his own troubles in this area, as Astrid was
leaving to stay with her brother for three months...without him. He
didn't seem certain she would return.
Alejandra
asked Javier for the folder he had on the murder of Gustavo's family.
She looked at the photos and said that the car matched the ones in
the video taken the night Jaime was kidnapped. Javier looked a bit
put out.
Ricardo, Adrián, and Juan were discussing Rafael's defense when Roberto
arrived. When Juan raised the issue of Mónica's motive and of her
defense, Ricardo said that they should get her to plead guilty in
exchange for the care of her son. This should also make things
better for Rafael. Adrian said that if this did not work they needed
security videos of her with Rafael, to put her statement in the Lies
column. All went off to do what they had to.
Javier
warned Alejandra of the danger. His manner didn't please Alejandra,
who let him know that she understood who these people were in the
scheme of things: People whose crimes take away their right to be
free.
Alan
gave the two tech guys the contracts to sign for the sale of their
business. There was an additional clause regarding the continued
employment of certain people, which they didn't expect. The people
in question were friends of theirs.
After a little resistance Alan
and Damian got them to sign.
Alan
and Damian looked like they had just taken candy from a baby.
Adrián went to Victoria for a take-out recommendation. She told him that
Carmen had all that information, but he asked for her favorite. She
told him she liked the place with good salads. He asked if he should
order something for her and she said no thanks. He asked Victoria if
something had happened. She said No. Adrian wasn't buying this, but
did not press the issue but wanted to make sure the door was open.
Roberto
and Juan visited Rafael to prepare him for his court date. He was to
tell how he met Mónica, that she had tricked him into thinking she
was Dr Lara's wife, etc. Juan emphasized that this was to make the
judge see that Mónica had manipulated him. Rafael was not ready for
this. He had done the killing. Roberto tried to get him to admit to
himself that he had been manipulated by a woman with an agenda. He
was still in a state of disbelief... and sadder than ever because
this now affected her son. Rafael said he should confess to the total
crime. Roberto told him he needed to demonstrate that Mónica had
deceived and manipulated him. Juan pointed out that Sonia had
evidence against her and it would not be likely for her to go free.
However, Rafael seemed to go into self-destruct mode, sayiing that if
he died in prison he leaves nobody behind. But he was worried about
Mónica's son. Roberto tried to reassure him that the boy was being
cared for. He was only to tell the truth.
Monica
had truly brainwashed this man. Here he didn't look fit to stand
trial.
Ricardo
went to see Mónica, who insisted she had to get out to see her son.
He tried explaining that he was in a good pediatric hospital and that
the court date was the next day. She continued to deny knowing
Rafael and that she had done anything wrong. She did not think that
justice existed. Ricardo told her that people aren't entitled to
take justice with their own hands, which is what she had done.
The
law doesn't like situations like this. Both of these people will pay,
but what looks like martyrdom isn't going to get Rafael any points
with a judge.
I
agree, Candice. The twenty-first century isn't fond of such things
at any level. While Rafael isn't well-educated he should have been
able to recognize a manipulative woman as soon as the word “kill”
came into the conversation. That he is still in love with her despite
her deceptions indicates that he needs more help than the Vega
lawyers can give him. And considering their own situations right now
their own judgement could be called into question if Sonia decides
to really dig up dirt. Until next we meet Behind the Walls of
ustice, I'm Christopher Mason.
