Violeta
told Victoria about her husband's actions. Victoria told her that
this was obviously intentional and that she would help her.
Paula
came into Alejandra's office and was told that Gilberto would be
returning to Mexico and Alejandra would meet with him. He would be
paying the debts and revising Paula's contract. Alejandra said she
will feel better after this is all done. Alicia said she was sorry
for the misunderstanding. However, the nervous way in which she said
it is a red flag.
Victoria
asked Violeta how her marriage had been. She told her it had been
normal. She loved her husband and their daughter. Their daughter
was six years old and she and Andres had been married for almost
seven years. They had gotten on well. This was incsistent with
Andres' actions; neither could understand this. Victoria said she
would go to see him and get to the truth. Violeta was worried about
Sol, her daughter. She gave Victoria her address so she could get to
work.
El
Ciego and his accomplices talked about El Gringo and the club owner.
El Chivo said he heard that El Gringo was in bad shape and the bar
owner was alive. El Ciego wanted confirmation on this.
Alejandra
talked to opposing counsel regarding her paternity case. Ricardo
came in to tell her that the apartment was ready to move into.
El
Cuevo updated his boss that he had not been able to get the names of
the cops but he did find out that there was a female lawyer whose
father had been kidnapped and that the two of them worked at the same
firm. El Ciego said they knew what was to come next. He picked up
his pistol and demonstrated. Alejandra is now their target.
Victoria
arrived at the Camacho house to find him holding Sol and playing
along with her fairytale imagination, telling her she was a princess.
The maid escorted Victoria in and Andres told her she could go. She
thanked him. Victoria introduced herself and said she needed to talk
to him. He asked for a moment during which he sent Sol to her room.
When he was sure she was out of earshot and that the maid had left he
looked at Victoria who told him that his wife was in the women's
prison charged with stealing his car. “Do you realize how much
damage this is causing? Why did you do this to your wife?” she
asked. He said she had no idea what problems were in his marriage
and that he had no other choice.
Carlos
told Alan to invite everyone important in the legal community to
celebrate their new offices. He took the folder and said he would
speak to Marta right away. As he got up Carlos told him “One more
thing: Invite the entire Vega firm.” Alan was surprised. He told
Carlos he should only invite Jaime and Alejandra because now was not
the time to get into another duel with Ricardo. Carlos didn't
listen; he was out to prove Mine Is Bigger Than Yours.
Andres
told Victoria the same lies he told the district attorney. That he
and Violeta argued all the time, that it kept getting worse, and that
he decided they needed to get divorced. That when he told her that
she became violent, forcibly took the car, and threw him out into the
street. He had no other option. Victoria said that even if all this
is true it wasn't adequate reason for an arrest. While watching her
face he backed up and said “You're right; perhaps I exaggerate. But
I was desperate.”
She
got him to admit that this was a radical action. She started
guilt-tripping him over having done this to the mother of his child.
He told her she was completely right. He said he didn't want to hurt
her but that he didn't want her to take everything he had. She said
that they could go before a judge to negotiate alimony or settlement,
that there should not be such pressure. He conceded. “Besides, I
was under the impression that things were good between you. You need
to come down to settle these things.” She said he needed to come
down to the women's prison before this went before a judge. He
finally said he would meet her there at noon to settle the matter.
She suggested they drive there together to get there faster and he
agreed. He shook her hand and thanked her for opening his eyes. He
saw her to the door. [The music was quite ominous here.]
El
Chivo was trying to get home. He saw a man who looked like he was
keeping an eye on things. He later came back to their current
hideout and told El Ciego that he had been followed and the guy knew
where he lived. They were not sure whom he worked for. El Ciego
decided to check on their weapons.
Roberto
came home to find his father's red tie draped over the lock below the
door handle. He laughed and said to himself “He's serious!” He
ended up sitting down in the hallway until a blonde exited the
apartment while still trying to close the back of her dress. She was
followed by a long-haired brunette. Both were more age-appropriate
for him than for Nicolas, who came out behind her and watched her
exit. When she was going he asked whether Roberto had spent much
time in the hall. Beefore he could answer Nicolas told him to come
inside. Roberto expressed concern about his father overtaxing
himself with not one but two younger women. “You could be a
grandfather!” Nicolas told him not to worry and almost danced out
of the room. Roberto shook his head and laughed quietly.
Alejandra
and Ricardo went home to their new place, which was almost fully
furnished. He surprised her by taking out the garter he had
retrieved from her aborted wedding and said he knew it would bring
him luck. They kissed and the situation took its natural path from
there.
The
following morning Conchita, the Camachos' maid, could not persuade
Sol to eat her breakfast. She told her boss, who told her not to
worry; he would take care of it. Conchita left the kitchen. Sol
told her father she wanted to see her mother. He told her that she
was working. She said she missed her mother. He said he missed her,
too, and when she finished working she would come back. He told her
he had a surprise for her. They were going on a vacation. She liked
that, but asked about her mother. He told her that as soon as she
finished work she would be with them. Then he picked up the fork to
feed her.
Alejandra
and Ricardo were getting ready to leave for work. Alejandra had a
court date and she was a little concerned, but Ricardo was sure she
would do well. They left for work after their first night of living
together.
Roberto
was dressed for work but Nicolas was still in his silk pyjamas ...and
he had a hangover. Roberto handed him a cold bottle of beer which he
immediately applied to the side of his head. He talked about getting
a better pillow and then drank the beer. Roberto told him to relax
and call him if he needed anything.
Sofia
had to tell her clients that the fire wasn't an accident and that
they needed to find out who actually had set it. She told them they
needed to be patient because this would take time.
Tatiana
called Juan to whine about not getting the job she interviewed for
because she had no experience. He told her she had to keep trying,
that she had no idea it was so difficult finding other work. She
didn't want to go back to dancing and she had so many bills. [You
already know this but...] Juan offered to help her. She told him
No, he'd already done too much for her. He insisted and she went on
about what a good person he was..... [sorry, I was getting sick].
She asked when she could see him and he told her he had a lot of
work to do. She gave a fake apology for intruding on his time, etc.,
and he told her not to talk that way. He said to keep trying and he
would help in ways he could. She kissed the phone, saying “You're
a darling, Juan” although he had probably ended the call. She
looked very pleased.
Sofia's
clients were quite ajitated and she did her best to calm them down.
She told them they would find the criminals.
Victoria
went to the Camacho house to find Conchita there alone. When she
asked for her boss and his daughter she was told they went on
vacation. She thanked Conchita and stood out in the street with
folded arms and a justifiable bad mood.
Sofia
went to Javier's office to talk about the situation. He had a minor
update and she went off to discuss the situation with the DA.
Alejandra
was in court with Claudio Vidal in the paternity case. Opposing
cousel wanted to question him and he was sworn in. The fist question
was how long the relationship had been and he answered that it had
been for three years. He asked whether he knew she had been married
and whether she wanted a divorce. He answered Yes and She didn't
believe she could leave him. Alejandra objected to this line of
questioning as irrelevant and opposing counsel said that it was
relevant because the woman wasn't getting a divorce and that he had
lied to her about having had a vasectomy. Claudio stood up and said
this was not true. Opposing counsel said that she was prepared to
make this statement under oath. Further, his client had acted in
good faith, incurring the expenses of her pregnancy and birth and
claiming legal responsibility for the baby. Note that Gabriela held
her husband's hand through this.
Alejandra
stated that opposing counsel's points were irrelevant as they were
there to determine the baby's paternity. Her client had good reason
to suspect the child was his and he had every right to know and take
his legal responsibility. She asked to present the test results.
Simon (the cuckolded husband) got to his feet, but his wife pulled
him back, telling him to calm down. He stared at Alejandra – or
the judge – with the smug expression he'd shown before. The expert
witness read the result, which showed 98-99% match between the baby
and Claudio Vidal. Simon got to his feet, saying the baby was his;
he had given the child his name. The doctor then said that this
proved blood kinship between the baby and Sr. Vidal. Alejandra had
no further questions and the defense had none. The witness left the
chair and defense counsel pointed out that his client had the child
registered as his and covered all the relevant expenses. Alejandra
said that her client was prepared to pay those bills. Defense
counsel asked the judge to consider what was best for the child,
claiming that Sr Vidal was a man of lesser means than his client.
Alejandra said that children are about more than money. A child
needs attention, care, and love. Her client was prepared to provide
those things and be a father.
Victoria
went straight to Adrián's office and said she needed his help. She
told him about the case and that she had believed Andres Camacho when
he agreed to go to the women's prison and drop all the charges.
Victoria felt like a prize fool for believing him. Now they would
have to find him before being able to get her client out of jail.
Adrián told her he would help.
The
judge decided in Claudio's favor. Custody of the baby would stay
with his mother and a schedule of vistation would be made. Court was
adjourned. Before anyone else left the courtroom Simon approached
Alejandra and threatened that his client would never see the child.
Alejandra told him not to make anything of this because he was within
his rights. Simon's stance was threatening and Alejandra reminded
him that things would get very ugly because there were witnesses.
His wife held him back as best she could and when he got free he went
back in and said that all this will do is confuse the child.
Alejandra carefully explained that it was in all the child's best
interest to have his natural father in his life and to help take care
of him. Simon was clearly reluctant to leave, but allowed Gabriela
to directed him out of the courtroom. The courtroom then began
emptying and Claudio thanked Alejandra.
Adrián
told Victoria that a man who could deceive his own wife could decieve
her and she was not to blame herself. She was angry that they missed
the only chance to get her client out of jail. They could not prove
the deception. They sat down and talked about it. Victoria said
they needed a witness so she would need to talk to Violeta to
determine who that would be. Her attitude changed during these
thoughts and Adrián said he liked seeing her that way, looking for
solutions. She asked him to come with her to see Violeta. They
talked about this as they passed Roberto in the corridor, virtually
ignoring him.
Roberto
didn't like what he saw. He went straight to Juan's office and asked
if he knew what Victoria was working on. Juan did not know and
Roberto vented. He could not understand why Victoria had gone to
Adrián for advice when she had always come to him. Then he changed
the subject and asked Juan what he was doing later and Juan answered
that he was spending the evening with his girlfriend. Roberto then
realized that for once he was the Odd Man Out, between a junior
colleague and a widowed father whose love lives were better than his.
“But, you always did well with women,” Juan said to him.
Roberto corrected him, “No, not all,” before leaving his office.
Victoria
introduced Violeta to Adrián and told her everything in detail.
Violeta said that none of it was true and her mother was there and
saw everything. Adrián told her that it was important for her to
tell them everything. Victoria told her that they believed her. He
had lied to her. She explained the whole thing and Violeta became
even more upset upon hearing that he had taken the child and run.
