Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Jueves 5/2/19, Episode 37: Lies and Whispers

Andres came to the door to the angry face of Adrián and the smug greeting of Victoria. For a moment he looked as though he realized he was a prize fool.

Jaime escorted Paula home. She was profoundly sad, depressed, and worse. The maid hugged her, then went back to work. Jaime told her that Alejandra would always be in their hearts and every corner of the house. Paula felt as though she could not go on. Jaime was a tower of strength despite his own grief, saying that together they woud endure.

Meghan asked Andres who Victoria was and he told her to go inside. “She's just my attorney, helping me with the divorce.” Fortunately Meghan didn't go back inside so easily and Victoria quickly called him out as a liar. She told Meghan what he had done and why. Adrián kept his eyes on Andres through all this. When Andres tried to deny Victoria's words, Victoria said that “these gentlemen” (the police) were there to help get him back to Mexico so he could testify to exactly what crap he was telling Meghan.

Alonso had no appetite at lunch despite the venue and the company. Lourdes told him to speak his mind; he didn't have to play strong in front of her. He told her that he felt guilty about what happened to Alejandra. He talked about how had he not taken the case against Dorantes none of the horrible events that had happened since (death of Fausto, Jaime's kidnapping, the attempt on his own life, Alejandra's death) would have taken place. Lourdes told him that the only guilt belongs to the killers. He realized he did not want to be alone and asked her to stay at his place for a few days. She agreed. [Alonso, this lady is the best thing that could have happened to you; don't blow it!]

Meghan asked Andres if this was true and she knew the answer before he lied to her again. He tried to grab her hands and she pulled away. Andres had the nerve to tell Victoria she had no right to do this and she countered that he had no right to do what he did. Captain Murdoch then told him he was wanted for an offense in another jurisdiction and he would be taken back to Mexico. He showed him the documents. He went “This is an outrage” but the only rage was Meghan's. She slapped him flat and told him to get out of her life. Adrián told him he had no choice.

Ricardo was in his apartment, holding the garter he had retrieved from the ill-fated wedding and remembering Alejandra in the last few days. He started to cry, then finally saying that this doesn't end here.

Meghan told Andres she was done with him. She started to walk away, but Victoria followed her. As Adrián supervised Andres' arrest Victoria asked Meghan about Sol. The girl was in the house and Meghan said she was alright. She was shocked at what Andres did to her and said that this child didn't deserve this and she should be in Mexico with her mother. While Andres huffed and puffed but could not blow the house down Meghan went inside and brought Sol out to Victoria. Both women assured the child she would see her mother. Victoria apologized to Meghan about her having to find out about this in this manner and she said that it was alright; better now than later. [Note of gratitude that Meghan was not the bimbo of early assumptions.]

Carlos sat on his couch with a stiff drink. Alan brought him coffee, which he strenuoulsy refused. Alan tried to get him to understand that they had work to do, including the party for the firm, but Carlos told him basically to go to hell. That party was all about bragging in front of Alejandra and there was no point to it. He really must have lost it because he said he'd rather see her with Ricardo and alive. He didn't listen to another word Alan said, finally ordering him out. He then picked up his phone and called Nancy, telling her to come over right away.

Meghan told Sol she loved her, then gave her a hug and a kiss. Sol ran down toward her father, wanting to know what was happening. He asked the police if he could have a second with his daughter. They reluctantly released him and he told Sol that everything would be alright and he would be back very soon. Victoria and Adrián stood guard over the child and Victoria told Andres to control himself. If he had anything to say, tell it to the judge. He threw some cheap accusations at her and made an advance despite the handcuffs. Captain Murdoch stepped in and Adrián stepped in ahead of him to shove Andres back into police hands, telling him he was not to disrespect Victoria. “For once in your life conduct yourself like a decent man,” he said. “Look at what you've done. You've deceived your wife, your daughter, and your mistress. The law will not let you off. You are going to pay for this, I swear to you!” Despite being shoved into the police car in the manner we all know from our police programs in the US, he continued to insist that Violeta had stolen his car. Sol cried, which Victoria took note of.

Juan arrived home and told his mother how everyone was hurting, especially Ricardo. He wasn't sure how long this would go on. Susanna hugged him as he talked about how horrible and unfair it all was. She told him that he has never been one to give up and that he would succeed and find justice.

Victoria and Adrián assured Sol she would see her mother soon. Victoria told Adrián that this is so not over and she hoped that once in court Andres would retract his accusation. Captain Murdoch escorted them to their car.

Sofia and Camila talked about what happened and Sofia expressed concern for her mother's health. Camila tried to assure her she was alright. Sofia then left for work.

Alan was in the office, taking charge. Marta went over the party stuff and asked about confirmations. Alan told her things would go on as planned. She asked when Carlos was returning to the office and he told her he didn't know. He was beginning to get irritated as he told her to get confirmations from the caterers.

Nancy arrived at Carlos' place. He was on his nth drink and possibly a little drunk. He asked her what she found out about El Gringo. She told him what the young cop told her and he said “I thought you were capable.” She replied that she was capable, but also smart. “If they're that dangerous then it's better we do nothing.” He lost his temper, saying “You will do as I say” and went on about how this cost him what he most valued. He took another sip and she looked like she was assessing his sanity.

Victoria and Adrián left the police station. They thanked Captain Murdoch for his help and Adrián asked Sol if she liked flying in a plane. She said yes and he told her that shortly they would be flying back to Mexico. He picked her up and she laughed. Victoria looked impressed at how he was with the child. He told Victoria that all the papers were in order and their flight was in two hours. She thanked him and he said she didn't have to; he would do anything for her.

Carlos and Nancy argued. She told him she wasn't about to risk her life. She demanded that he be honest with her. He reminded her that they were both criminal law specialists and were accustomed to dealing with dangerous people. She agreed, but said not at this level. Eventually she said she would do what she could.

Sofia “barged” into Javier's office with the latest developments on the arson case, saying they didn't have to wait. She took out her cell to call the judge for a court date. [Can someone fill in the details? My brain is still fried from last night at the opera. Gracias.]

Lorena and Manuel were working in the library, commenting on how quiet it was at the office and how devastated everyone was. Lorena was sure that the lawyers, especially Alonso, wouldn't let go until the guilty were punished. Manuel said they needed to help and then went on about doing so outside the office. Lorena tried to tell him this was too dangerous.

Sofia was pressing for a fast court date and not satisfied that the earliest avail was the next week. She got the clerk to put them on standby in case of a cancellation. Javier was very impatient with her about this but she told him she didn't want to take the chance that someone guilty of killing this many people could go free and escape. She insisted that they find the judge themselves first thing in the morning.

That evening at the airport Sol asked Victoria if her mother would be home when they got there. Victoria told her she would not, but would be soon. The DA was there with a warrant and two cops. She told Andres he would have to come with them. The two cops grabbed him and he sang the same old song about being the victim. He said to Victoria “You're going to be sorry” and she said “The only one who will be sorry is you.” Andres began demanding to know about Sol and the DA said “She's coming with us.” Adrián tried to assure Sol that she would be with her mother soon.

Ricardo sat in his apartment at the dining room table. Gustavo knocked at the door and Ricardo let him in. Their roles were reversed now, with Gustavo worried about Ricardo and telling him that drinking was good. The difference was that Gustavo was speaking from experience. Ricardo started crying, saying he felt very alone. Gustavo told him he would have to carry on, for Alejandra's sake. Ricardo was frustrated at her not having told him what she was up to so he could have helped. The only thing now was to find those responsible.

The DA recounted Andres' actions regarding the theft report then pointed out his failure to appear in court for the trial. He claimed he had to take a trip. The DA pointed out that he had a court order for the trial to give evidence. She asked if he wanted to change anything in his declaration and he said No. He continued to claim that Violeta did this because of their dispute and that she had threatened to take everything. Victoria called him a cinico and the DA called her off. She took her place and the DA told Andres he needed to testify at Violeta's sentencing hearing. He agreed to. She warned him that if he failed to appear or tried to leave the country again there would be an arrest warrant out for him. He asked to leave and she allowed him to, but warned him to heed the summons. He got up to leave, gave Victoria a contemptuous look, and exited. Victoria left without a word. The DA looked a little annoyed.

Victoria told Adrián what happened and he said they needed to prepare for the court date. Andres picked up Sol and told her they were going home. She asked about her mother and he said “Later.” As he carried her out she yelled that Victoria said she would be with her mother and Victoria told her she would be, soon. Andres told Sol “Don't listen to that woman,” and they were out the door. Victoria was outraged at this man's arrogance. Adrián told her that they had to prove he was lying. The court date was the next day.

The next morning Javier and Sofia got to the courthouse early. He wanted to continue working on the shooting in the restaurant, saying that the ballistics report demonstrated that the trajectory of the bullets didn't jive with the original line of attack. The judge arrived before he could explain any details. After more effort than it should have needed they got his attention for ten minutes.

Victoria and Adrián approached the Camacho house, concerned about their case. They spotted Conchita, the maid, and approached her. They told her that Violeta was in trouble and she said “No, she's a good person.” They then said they desperately needed her help.

Andres had to make his own coffee, after which he sat down on the sofa next to Sol and her family of plush animals [This is a little girl who should have a kitten]. She asked about her mother and Andres told her there were problems. She asked why she never heard them argue and he said that he made sure that she didn't know he and her mother were fighting. She asked about Meghan and he told her that she was a friend and it was her mother's fault that Meghan was angry with him. Sol said she was afraid because the police came to Meghan's house. Andres said that happened because her mother told lies about them. She asked when she would see her mother and he told her her mother would not return because of a problem with the police. She asked what that was and he said he didn't know. He then looked at his watch, noting that Conchita should have arrived because he had to leave. Sol asked where he was going and he said that this was about her mother's problem. He told her not to be sad. “Who loves you?” etc. [Excuse me; I have to go to the vomitorium.]

Alan went over the party prep with Marta, saying they needed at least ten more cases of champagne. A few more sentences later he noticed Nancy in the doorway. Marta got up to return to the tasks at hand while Nancy tried to make Alan cringe over having disobeyed Carlos about the party. He played the Partner Card and said “Why don't you just go back to work?” She said “As you said, Alan” and walked out. He grinned.

Javier and Sofia continued to disagree about having approached the judge; apparently they got no satisfaction. She was less patient, saying they had to get justice for the affected familes.

Adrián and Victoria visited Violeta at the prison. They told her everything. She went from “I don't believe it” to “He's a bastard” within two minutes. She was upset at not having seen him for what he was. Victoria told her not to worry. All she needed to do was to tell the truth. Adrián told her that they would take care of everything else. Victoria told her she would be able to move on from this and she will soon be free.

Quiroz was leading his men out and talking about three cases that were connected. Ricardo came up to him, blamed him for what happened to Alejandra, and punched him. Several cops got on him, one of them punching him in the stomach.

I want Victoria to mop the floor with this sorry excuse of a man and wring him out to dry.

This is a case that could go on for a week's worth of episodes in order to sort out the truth. Andres very cleverly set Violeta's mother up, too, so that her word would be suspect. Conchita is a valuable witness, but two is always better. The two possibles would be Sol testifying that she never heard her parents fight and getting Meghan in from Texas to testify about his lies to her.

The problem is that if Andres works hard enough on Sol she might not make a credible witness.

Thank you, Urban. All this and the opera, too! You are awesome.

Sofia was ranting because there was the possibility of the club manager getting out on bail. She raged that he had no right to be walking around free with a chance of possibly disappearing since he was responsible for so many deaths and became super frustrated at Javier's "Let system run its course, there's nothing we can do" attitude. She insisted on personally talking to the judge before the bail hearing, to make him aware of the situation and not grant bail (isn't this illegal? Influencing the judge and all that? Oh, well, the TN alternate universe marches on). Javier's laid-back, "okaaay ... but he won't see you!" only spurred her on until she got what she wanted - ten minutes with the judge before the bail hearing. I thought it was hilarious the way she bull-dozed Javier into going with her in the morning to catch the judge before his workday started, prepared to wait "for hours if necessary!" Javier was not a happy camper!

Thanks. This is inconsistent with his attitude about not trusting the police; surely he knows there also is corruption and incompetence at higher levels.

I don't know whether talking to the judge about this is illegal if they have any evidence of possible responsibility. Or do they need to be at the bail hearing?

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed with all the judges and the other lawyers being anonymous? My job would be so much easier if these writers would give them names.

Thanks Urban.

Interesting to see the role reversal between Ric and Gus. Gus has had some time to get his head back on straight a little bit and that's what Ric needs now. Like I said before, I don't know if Ric is going to get another love interest, but first there's a case to be solved.

If it comes to it, I'm sure Meghan would be willing to testify. She believed Victoria and Adrian right away despite Andres' denial and protests. Understandable that she feels shame and maybe guilt that she was manipulated by Andres and knew that Sol was an innocent pawn in Andres' game.

Thanks, UA! I can't wait to catch up on this episode when I get home from work. Sounds like a corker.

My favorite line from your recap: " He really must have lost it because he said he'd rather see her with Ricardo and alive." I know, right?

Oh, and by the way, a shout-out to our awesome blog admins for the snappy sidebar graphics for Telemundo and Uni. Beautiful!

Am i the only one that wants to see Sofia with Javier instead of with Ricardo. Im really starting to love that dynamic and i feel she can melt that cold hard exterior. She matches him and challenges him. Please writers leave Ric the brick alone.

Thanks, UA--Thanking you is getting to be a daily ritual, but we are grateful for your constancy.

My favorite scenes were the Victoria-Adrian scenes with Sol in the park before their flight home. There was such joy in Victoria watching Adrian who was really connecting with the little girl.

I was really surprised to see Andres walk off with Sol after he chose not to change his statement. But then, he hasn't been charged with anything in Mexico. He's the one who filed the complaint, so essentially, he IS the victim. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Dynamic Duo can unravel the deceitful web Andres wove.

Ana--Actually I'm with you on the Sofia-Javier pairing. It's Hot Chiles and Cold Brew. It's rapid-fire, non-stop talking to brooding reflection. Meanwhile, Ricardo is just a mournful bucket of tears. I wish he'd go to BC and visit his adopted kids for awhile.

Lol A mournful bucket of tears...yup...that describes Rick......

Thanks UA. I’m with you.... I want Victoria to mop the floor with this sorry excuse of a man and wring him out to dry. For some reason this particular story really gets to me.
And agree that a romance between Sofia and locked-in-and-barricaded Javier would be interesting.
Nursing a wretched head cold at the moment. Seems all wrong now that Spring and sunshine has arrived. Happy Friday everyone.

Boy I wish I could have had a boss like Alonso.!

UA: Good Job on the recap.

Thanks, Urban.

Surprised that Ric punched Quiroz and in front of other officers. Will Quiroz arrest him or give him a break?

Still trying to figure out the interns' purpose. They seem like filler to me.

Urban, this was a most sickening episode. And your recap is splendid in
Bringing out the sickening disgusting
Arrogance of andres. Girl you are good
Lol, you made a trip to the vomitorium
? How bout throwing upchuckin the last thanksgiving turkey? Andre is the most
Narrsassistic butthole I've ever seen
In a tn. And the guy that's playin him
Is really good at it to the point That I want to kick his ass myself. He lies to his child without missing a beat.
He is a very dangerous man, and I hope
Vicky and Adrian can get violet out of
Jail before he does anymore damage to
Little sol. Getting a devorce wouldve
Been so much better than This. Not easy
But better, as far as Devorces go.

Ok I Still don't think she's dead. She
Could be kept somewhere while she is healing. And nobody knows about it but
Quioriz. And to keep it authentic tell
No one. Not even mom n dad. Nobody. Ok
My wishful thinking at work again. But
What if?

I'm happy weekend, yaaaaah. Rainy hot
And muggy in North Florida.

"Ok" happy weekend.

Nina--keep on wishing. Three people and the doc saw her flatline. Then they spent a lot of time around her body, so no one got out the paddles. OTOH, maybe that was someone else's flatline? These writers are capable of a lot of twists and impossibilities. I would have expected that in some American series, without a doubt.
