Primetime on Univisión (#1): Week of May 13, 2019

Greetings, Caraymates!

Welcome to page 1 of Primetime TNs/Series which are not being covered by recappers. It’s your sandbox where you can gather to discuss, critique, snark, or just plain talk about your favorite or not-so-favorite characters, scenes, dialogues, wardrobe or whatever else you can think of. Everyone is welcome to join in the conversations. Highlights, summaries, or details of scenes/episodes are encouraged (this would be a good time to practice your skills in recapping :-). As of now there are no recappers for LRSY, so if some brave souls would like to contribute some highlights or a mini-recap, I’m sure it would be very appreciated. TNs/series covered by this page are:
  • 9-10PM – La Rosa de Guadalupe (7-8PM on May 13th!!)
  • 8-9PM   – La Reina Soy Yo: Ep 1-4 (8-10PM on May 13th with Ep 1-2!)
As with other discussion pages for more than one TN, please identify the TN you are commenting on to avoid confusion and so readers can easily find the conversations they are looking for, especially after La Reina Soy Yo starts.

Discussion pages will be posted on Mondays and Thursdays at 9PM.

Well, I watched Reina. Great young, attractive actors, good singing and there was lots of action...good guys ...bad guys...but...I have no idea what they were saying.

I watched Reina (in between some computer work). Had the captions on, so followed a little. Starts with our heroine in prison, with party to celebrate her near release, I think. She and her friend are poisoned, with substance smuggled in by evil crime lord. She survives and is recruited as undercover agent to bring down crime lord and get revenge for the deaths of her family years ago. Then big flashback to how it all happened. She and the two male protagonists were teens together. Yeli (?) was aspiring song writer and singer. Juanjo and blond singer were starting career. Blond goes into life of crime with relative who becomes crime lord. He also becomes music star. Not sure of other details--this was basically the setup for what happens 17 years later.

Hope things are well with you, Susanlynn.

"REINA":

Paloma: I also watched the 2 HR debut last night. It was AWESOME!

Pulling for the female leading Protagonista getting her revenge in avenging her family's deaths.

La Paloma, thanks for the explanation . That was very thoughtful of you. It helps a lot. I missed the beginning , but recorded the episode , so I will watch again with your information in mind. The dark haired boy was sweet caring for the little boy and girl who I assumed were his siblings.

OT..La Paloma, I am still here trying to move forward the best I can with the help of friends and family, but I will miss the love of my life forever. I keep your family in my thoughts and prayers . How are you doing ?

Whoops...that was me above.

Good Morning, PrimeT Patio!

Paloma, thanks for filling us in on the beginning. I missed quite a bit of the beginning since I'm still out with my animalitos at that time. I did, however, catch a bit in between PM chores and recapping another TN. Here is what I got--

The three young friends, Yameli (main protag), Charly (curly haired guy) and Juanjo (the more serious one) are into music with Yameli writing the songs and Charly and Juanjo being the main singers. Charly and Juanjo have a band called "Soul and Bass."

What's interesting is that now none of the friends have parents. Charly is living with his Uncle Monchis who was his mother's brother...and is a mafioso and had something to do with Yameli's parent's death and now wants to buy Yameli's house so he can use it as the center of his crooked operations. Yameli, however, refused to sell despite her grandmother's insistence since Yameli's parents were deep in debt. Juanjo is the one who is caring for his two younger siblings. There was some woman who was trying to get him to hire her as a nanny. When Juanjo refused because he doesn't have the money, the witchy woman insinuated that she would be calling CPS if he didn't hire her. Juanjo still refused.

Juanjo seems to be the good guy. He collected money so that Yameli could bury her parents. He is also taking care of his siblings (mucho points for this guy).

Charly seems to like Yameli quite a bit, but not enough to suggest to Juanjo that they ask Yameli for her notebook of songs so that they can record them. He thinks Yameli might be leaving with her grandma and he didn't have a problem if Yamela left the group as long as she gave them the notebook.

Monchis and family went to visit Yameli and grandam to give their condolences and to give them money for the funeral. During that visit, Monchis made his offer to buy the house and Yameli refused. Later, when grandma was trying to convince Yameli to sell, Yameli still refused, but promised that she would find away to make money and pay off the debts.

There was a scene where Monchis had Juanjo tied up as he tried to convince Charly that both of them work for him. Charly refused and reminded his uncle that his mother would not be pleased that he is trying to get him into his business. It worked because Monchis backed off.

In the last scene I saw, Yameli approached Charly and Juanjo with an idea for making money. They can have their first "mini-concert." Charly and Juanjo are all for it and they go off to look at a site for the concert.

REINA SOY (as was the comment above...OOPSIE!!)

I just saw some more of the beginning and need to make some corrections.

Carly lives with his mother, but has no father; Monchis is his father's brother and also is after Charly's mother who won't give him the time of day.

Monchis did have Yameli's parents "punished" for refusing to pay him their "monthly dues."

Charly and Juanjo make some money by doing some small jobs for Monchis; thought Juanjo really would rather not but has a need to since he is raising his little brother and sister.

Charly is user and wants to hit it big in music. His interest in Yameli started only because Juanjo shared one of Yameli's songs with a producer and the producer liked it. Juanjo told the producer that Yameli would be their song writer.

"REINA":

RGV Chick: Something tells me the Body Count in this Telenovela will be very, very HIGH!

REINA SOY-

Oh yes, Steve, body count will be high; there are already a few.

I just finished watching the end of the Gran Estreno. The mini-concert was going really well with Charly singing Yameli's song. The producer was even going to send a demo to some producer in Miami, but some young guns showed up and shot up the place. Yameli's grandma was there and got hurt; she now needs therapy. Charly decided to go back and work for his uncle (without Juanjo who didn't want to join him); so his uncle sent him on a job so he could prove himself. During the robbery, Yameli and grandma were coincidentally there. Despite wearing a ski mask, Yameli recognized the tattoo on Charly's arm (that he had just gotten the day before.)

BTW, the poisoning at the prison was ordered by Monchis because he got word that Yameli would be released soon. Fanny, who was Yameli's friend since they were teenagers, perished.

Thank you, Chickie. I am going to watch the beginning as soon as I have time. Looks good so far. I wonder who plays adult juanho. .

REINA SOY

Susanlynn, Juanjo will be played by Mane de la Parra. Poor guy, he was trying to help Yameli because he has a crush on her, but Yameli has a crush on Charly. Love triangle at such a young age!

I think the only person I know is Michelle. The others all new faces for me.

OT--Susanlynn, you asked how I was doing. Mostly ok, although the past two years have involved a lot of time with our granddaughter. She was very premature and spent the first six months in the NICU, then some time at parent's home, then six months living in my house, back home for a couple of months, then back to the hospital for 2-3 months. She had many medical challenges and issues. She spent the last couple of months in a special needs care home. Three weeks ago, she left this world for the highest possible level of care with her Heavenly Father. We miss her, but are happy she no longer has to struggle.

I still think about you as you continue coping with your loss and pray for comfort for you. Thanks for thinking of me.

Ot..Dear (((La Paloma))) I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I have been reading a lot of articles about grieving and dealing with the
loss of a loved once. Everyone grieves in his or her own way, and it is part of the human condition and never an easy process. It is a daily struggle.

La Paloma, what a difficult two years this has been for your little granddaughter and for all the family. But I love what you said: "she left this world for the highest possible level of care with her Heavenly Father". When we see our loved ones struggle , then we are relieved to know they are no longer suffering. But oh, that emptiness in our hearts, as we continue to live in a world where we can no longer find them, see them, and hold them.

Sending thoughts and prayers to both you and your family....

This story, la Reina soy yo...is very engaging but very tough to watch. So much betrayal and death right from the get-go. Hallmark Specials these are not!

REINA SOY:

Young Juanjo is over on Telemundo's UN POQUITO TUYO, if anyone's already gotten attached to him.

REINA SOY
Young Juanjo is a sweetie. And young Charly is an opportunistic, selfish, so and so. I hate how he took advantage of Yameli (and how easily she gave in to him)! Thanks to him, she has a long hard road ahead. Of course, thats typical for a TN--youthful errors create the drama.

OT-Judy B and Susanlynn, thanks for your care and concern. It means a lot.

REINA SOY

JudyB, it is indeed a harsh start to the story; I'm going to be optimistic and hope that the worst is over.

La Paloma, it was difficult watching how Charly sweet-talked Yameli and she fell right for it. Young love is the blindest of all. What a hard price to pay for being so vulnerable and trusting.

OT-La Paloma, my sincerest condolences on the loss of your grandchild. May you find comfort in knowing that she rests in our Lord's loving arms. My prayers are with you and her parents.

reina-soy
Monchis was offering to get rid of Yameli once and for all, but Charly had a better idea. Was it really worth it to waste a big amount of cocaine just to have Yameli locked up? Big mistake. He should have watched "La bella y las bestias." Should be Villain 101, you don't leave behind someone with the desire for vengeance. I am looking forward for Yameli to come back as a DEA collaborator.

"REINA":

RGV Chick: Sooner or later, Charly will have to face Karma.

La Paloma: My deepest condolences to the family.

Reina-Soy

Lucio, nice to "see" you here! Yes, Charly is not very smart. What surprised me was that Monchis agreed to it, but then, we wouldn't have a story to peak our interest would we? It's so sad that Yameli is getting some very hard lessons at such a young age. It's even sadder that it happens in real life.

Steve, can't wait for karma to hit Charly--nice eyes, but hateful character!

So as of right now--

Yameli was sent off to prison and threatened that if she didn't confess her granny would perish; Yameli is pregnant; Charly's career is about to take off with Yameli's song; and Monchis is insisting on marrying Charly's ma/his sister-in-law. LOTS happening!

"REINA":

RGV Chick: I'll post the Body Count sometime later this afternoon.

Hello, patio .

Chickie, thanks for the quick report on last night.

Uff..those prison scenes were hard to watch as those older women terrorized poor young Yami. I was hoping the big , strong , tattooed chick would come to her rescue. NO, she encroaching Tami how to box and defend herself. yay. Will they become bffs?

Lucio...hi...i do see the similarities between Tami and Bella. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

Charley is a despicable and dangerous , little weasel. His uncle is awful. Juanjo is sweet...Will be and Yami end up together. Always go for the good guys.

Sunny and 74 today. I am off to fight my battles.

Hi Susanlynn. Is that you above? off to fight your battles?

Yes, still very tough to watch this one. I'm ready to fast forward to when Yameli gets out of jail and starts working for the DEA. Hate scenes of bullying in a closed environment like prison. The dance scenes along the harbor were fun though. Thanks for the resumen Rgv Chick.

Yep, that was REINA. Seriously doubt that anyone is watching Rosa de Guadalupe. Do. Not. Understand. Why. They. Play. It. So. Much.

BODY COUNT:

1.) Daddy Montoya

2.) Mommy Montoya

3.) Music Producer from Miami, FL

4.) Fanny

If there's anyone else I forgot to include, let me know.
