Scenes
combined where it made sense to do so.
Mexico:
Paula
realized that Gilberto took advantage of her friendship with Alicia.
She called Jaime.
Juan
asked the parking attendant to take care of his car because of the
recent vandalism. Fernanda called him to tell him that the software
had been registered in Damián's name. Juan told her he needed to
look more deeply into intellectual property law before he could tell
her anything. He asked her to go to his office and wait for him.
Alonso
visited Quiróz in his office only to see the – altered – video
which revealed nothing of help to the case. Alonso suggested
questioning everyone who was there to see if anyone saw anything that
wasn't on the video. Or looking for entrances not visible on the
parking lot video cameras. He also suggested whether anyone was
anywhere near the location, such as other businesses. Quiróz
agreed, saying that this was one theory of the crime that they were
looking into.
Juan
smartly ignored Alan's condescending greeting as he shook his hand.
He explained that he represented Fernanda Vicencio whose intellectual
property had been stolen. Alan claimed that all pending projects at
the company his client purchased now belonged to him as part of the
sale. Juan had proof that Fernanda created the app in question. It
was Alan's opinion that she was stupid for not having registered it
in the first place so tough nuggies. Juan said that since he could
prove that Fernanda had created the app it meant that Alan's client
acted in bad faith.
Alan
laughed and challenged him to bring a case if he thought he had one.
Juan told him that he had proof that Fernanda had presented the app
to Eduardo and Luis before they had sold their buisiness. Juan
suggested that they work out a deal since his client claimed he was
too busy. Juan asked for them to surrender the rights to the app.
Alan laughed in his usual condescenting way, then said he doesn't see
that working. He suggested that they work out a financial
settlement. They shook hands and Juan left. Alan grinned behind his
back.
New
York:
Cristina
went to HR to report the sexual harrassment incident. The HR manager
took off his glasses and paused, finally saying she had to identify
the employee and describe what happened. He looked nervous and
displeased when she identified the offender. He got up and closed
the door. He handed her a form and told her to fill out all the
details, which would help the investigation.
Mexico:
Paula
told Jaime that she had made this deal to help Alicia. They had told
her that the profits would help pay the money Alejandra owed Carlos
for the loan he made to rescue him. She begged him to do what it
took to save the house. Jaime said he would be able to put a hold on
the order of seizure in order to force a response from Gilberto.
Paula said she would file a countersuit if necessary, even if it
meant they would end up in prison.
Jaime
said he would talk to Gilberto about this. Lourdes foolishly said
that she was sure Gilberto would answer and do the right thing and
give it some time. Paula seemed to have no illusions about this.
Jaime said he would take care of it, then he left. Lourdes said she
would stay with Paula so she would not be alone.
New
York:
Blums
sent his secretary to fetch Cristina so she would be in his office
immediately. Despite saying she didn't know what he wanted her
manner indicated she knew what this was about. Cristina went on her
way. On her way to his office Cristina encountered Havey Weinstein
Blums in the doorway of a conference room. He told her to come in
because this would not take long. He tore up the complaint in front
of her and fired her. She protested, he became insulting, telling
her to go back to “whatever third world country you came from”
and then calling security. He obviously had them waiting just
outside the door because they were in the room as soon as he said
“immediately.” At his order they removed her... by force,
dragging her out of the room. She shouted that this was illegal and
she would sue. He said he played golf with every judge in town, so
tough shit. The two security thugs dragged her until she said she
could walk by herself. By then they were halfway down a corridor
full of offices.
Sharon
ran up to her to find out what happened. Cristina told her she had
been fired and just wanted to get her stuff. The bald thug prevented
her from entering her office, saying he had to take her to the exit
immediately. Sharon told her she would get her purse and to wait for
her. She ran back to Cristina's former office. The gossip started
immediately.
On
the ground floor the other thug dragged her out of the elevator,
saying he was “just following orders.” He demanded her company
badge. She threw it at him, then exited the building.
Mexico:
Fernanda
was upset and Juan told her that they had a meeting with Alan the
next morning. If they were not satisfied with the offer they would
go to court, where they would have to accept a judge's decision.
Fernanda said she trusted him.
A
short while later he was studying up for the case when Tatiana called
his cell, down in the dumps [Really?] because she was having
trouble finding a job. She wanted to see him and asked to come to
his office. He told her he was preparing for a meeting the next day
but would call her afterward. She said she would wait for his call.
Nancy
entered Carlos' office iin a black leather skirt showing legs that
Betty Grable would have envied He had her close the door, then
handed her two stacks of bills. She asked when they could talk.
Since she had demonstrated she could be trusted he needed to return
the favor. He said he could not discuss this in public so she should
come to his apartment. She agreed, fully in the belief that this was
playing right into her hands.
Alonso
told Ricardo and Javier how his meeting with Quiróz had gone.
Quiróz' main hypothesis was that the shootout had nothing to do with
Alejandra and that her being hit had been an accident.
Later,
Nandy arrived at Carlos' apartment and like a noir femme fatale
wothy of the title said “I'll have what you're having.” As he
poured their drinks she sat on the couch and zipped up the slit on
the right seam of her skirt. She strategically crossed her legs
before he appeared with their glasses, which contained straight
whiskey. She asked again and as he took his jacket off he told her
about how he met Aurellano Martinez – El Ciego. She realized that
this was whom he wanted removed from the video and asked how long he
had been working for him. Carlos denied working for him, just
resolves problems for him. He warned that his people were very
dangerous. Nancy said she knew it had to be something complicated
and that he struck her as a man who could solve a lot of people's
problems. “But you don't have to do it alone.” She and her
split skirt then began closing in for the kill. “Now that I know,
we can make a better team.”
Carlos
told her it would be better to maintain distance. It would be safer
for her that way. She said this was significant for her because
“Nobody every thought to protect me.” Carlos – who may have
read just as much James M. Cain as she seemed to – slipped out of
the corner she had backed him into and handed over her purse, saying
it would be best to go home and rest and he would see her at the
office the next day. She kissed him to the right of his mouth,
paused at the open door in case he looked her way, then left.
Javier
pointed out to his colleagues that he has worked in the DA's office
long enough to know that they had no proof that Alejandra was a
target. Ricardo said that this was crazy because she was getting
very close to the truth. Javier said that while this could be
Ricardo didn't have the clarity of mind to be dealing with this.
Gustavo pointed out that nothing would be accomplished by them
fighting about this. Javier then pointed out that they would need to
talk to the restaurant's employees. Alonso favored this, saying that
somebody had to have seen something.
Sofia
and Victoria talked briefly before leaving the office, certain that
their idea would work. They ran into Roberto and Ricardo at the
elevator who were both curious about they were talking about.
Roberto approached Victoria who blew him off before leaving. Ricardo
asked Roberto how things were going with Victoria and Roberto said
“Really bad” and went on a bit.
Juan
explained to his mother about the problem with Fernanda's case. He
was sure he wouldn't be able to win the case beyond getting a
financial settlement.
The
following morning Juan and Fernanda went to Alan's office where
Damián was waiting with him. Alan said that all regulations
regarding the situation said that the app belonged to his client.
Fernanda tried to protest that this was not fair; Juan got her to sit
back down. Alan said that going to court would be a waste of all
their time and Juan agreed. Alan said that they were prepared to pay
compensation and put their offer on the table in writing, complete
with the pen for Fernanda to sign for a mere $10K pesos [$520US].
This would also involve the surrender of the license.
Fernanda
refused, calling this robbery. Alan and his client looked at each
other, appearing to have predicted this reaction. Alan said that a
court case would take a long time. Juan said that their offer was an
insult and he would see them in court. Alan reminded him of the risk
that he might lose, Fernanda said that the app was her work and she
wasn't going to let them steal it. They left the office. Alan
looked self-satisfied, while Damián didn't look so sure. [And if
he knew Alan's track record he would look really
nervous.]
Sofia
and Victoria were at the airport when they saw Cristina, who appeared
to be crying. They noticed her and wondered what her story was.
Jaime
went back to Paula's house to tell her he had filed the motion but
the result would depend on the judge. The only thing they could do
to guarantee it would be to compel Gilberto to pay up. He assured
her they would fight.
Juan
had to explain to Fernanda that this was different from what he used
to do. She had handed over the app to someone else without having
registered it for the patent. While the offer was basically a steal
for Damián, her behavior had shut down the possibility of any
further negotiation. She had to let him do his job. This would be
his most important case because he loved her.
Damián
may have begun questioning Alan's thoroughness in the purchase of the
business. Alan said that if such a thing had been overlooked it was
the original owners' fault, not theirs. He made a disparaging
comment about Juan and said he would win the case. Damián said that
he'd better because he saw huge potential for the app created by The
Little Woman. [We all must hope that Juan hangs these two out to
dry.]
Ricardo
put Alejandra's photo back up on his shelf, wondering how he was
going to go on. Victoria and Sofia came in, telling him they had a
surprise for him. They brought in his children. He hugged them and
Natalia said that Victoria had sent for them. Victoria refused to
take all the credit, saying that it was Sofia's idea. Gustavo and
Roberto came in to greet the kids, followed by Adrián, Lorena, and
Manuel who were meeting them for the first time. It sounds like
Federico's voice is changing.
Cristina
arrived at her parents' home. [She must have been a late-life
baby.] They immediately knew that something was wrong. She told
them she would not be able to go back. She told them what happened.
Victoria
encouraged the kids to talk about how bored they had been. The first
thing Federico thought of was how much they missed Mexican food. He
asked if they could go to a restaurant. Quesadillas! Tacos! He
would take them anywhere they wanted. The other lawyers left Ricardo
alone with his kids. Ricardo thanked Victoria and Sofia. Federico
told Victoria she gets prettier every day [Take it easy, chico!],
which made Victoria smile as she left the office. Natalia looked
at Alejandra's photo and asked “Is it true that Alejandra died?”
This brought his mood down to a crash.
