- 8-9PM
– La Reina Soy Yo : Ep. 5-6-
Labels: primetime, reina-soy, rosa
Good morning Caraymates. Well so far I'm enjoying this telenovela. Maybe just because it's something new and I haven't gotten impatient with the events so far. And I always like learning new vocabulary...."fayuca"= contraband, stolen goods, knock-offs
I am amused by the constant singing of Yameli in prison. The words change but it always seems to be the same mono-melody, and if I were her prison mates I might be tempted to cut out her vocal cords after a while. (Just kidding, seriously)
I think they are done piling on tragedy on Yamelí. She lost her parents, her grandmother, her child, her liberty. A chance to get close to Charly and Monchis, and with the support of DEA, and cutting 5 year of her prison sentence... Quick, where do I sign.
Things haven't been the best lately for Charly and Monchis. Charly's career is on the decline. Monchis is on the run. Charly comes back to Mexico and is going to set up a record label, to find new talent, (and to launder money for his uncle.)
Because of my poor language skills, the first few episodes are crucial for me. As I've already missed a few, perhaps it's just as well. I wouldn't be able to catch up and with no recaps, would be totally lost.
That said, it is so kind of you Judy to offer to help. Another good reason not to try to frantically figure out what I've missed as I would be bugging you constantly. :)
Diana
(wistfully sorry to be missing yet another novella)
LaPaloma, I am so very sorry about your loss. What you have endured is unimaginable. May God bless you and your family and give you strength. This is one of those times where words are simply inadequate.
I just went back and saw the thread I missed and apologize for my late condolences.
Diana
Steve, you can add Granny Tita to the list. I could not believe Monchis shot her without even flinching. What a monster!
JudyB, I had my doubts about this TN after teh first episode, but I'm quickly getting hooked. I do like a good revenge story and Yameli has good reason to go after the %^$#%! Her tragedies are worse than La Bella's!
I do enjoy Yameli's songs; and though they are now about lies, deception and betrayal and they do have the same mono-melody, I do find myself wanting to get up and dance :-)
Lucio, I do hope we've seen the last of Yameli's tragedies...she's had so many more than La Bella. And thanks for the details; here's a few more--
Yameli has her baby boy whom she names Mateo and hands him over to Granny Tita. She tells Tita to get outta Dodge because she doesn’t want Charly finding out that it’s his baby. Unfortunately for Tita, Monchis gets wind of Yameli having a baby and that she was preggers when she entered prison, He puts 2 and 2 together (yes, he can add) and figures out that Charly is the father; so he races over to get the baby and kills Tita who had her bags packed and was just about ready to leave town. He then takes the baby to Charly’s mom, but doesn’t tell her anything about the baby; though eventually she suspects it’s Charly’s baby because Baby Mateo, now named Eric, looks so much like Charly.
17 years later—Charly is not-so-happily married and has a teenage daughter. Juanjo still cares for his brother and sister. The sister thinks Juanjo should stop pining over Yameli and get on with his life…and with Wendy beside him.
Oh and Lucio indicated, the DEA is hot on Monchi’s trail; so much so that he has to get around in trunks of cars and any other way he can think of so as not be seen or get caught.
Lucio already graciously told you about Charly…so thanks, Lucio!
PS: I will join JudyB in welcoming questions. I miss some parts of this TN, but I am recording it to watch it...as time permits :-)
Oh Diana, I do hope you change your mind about watching this. It's easy to catch up since the first episodes were the back story. The revenge is just about to start!
I missed this episode. I thought that futbol was on.
I do see Yami turning into Bella and getting her revenge on. Here we go.
I will watch tonight and see If I can make heads or tails out of this! :)
Thanks for the encouragement!
Diana
When I'm home, I am going to take these, La Paloma's (from the other day) and Rgv Chick's notes and make a little cheat sheet for myself.
Diana (considerably cheered)
Here are some of the main characters--
Michelle Renaud as Yamelí Montoya, alias Lari Andrade
Renata Vaca as Young Yamelí
Lambda García as Charly Flow – hustler, thief, wanna-be singer/songwriter
Mané de la Parra as Juanjo – has always loved Yameli and has been sending her letters throughout the years.
David Caro Levy as Young Juanjo
Polo Morín as Young Charly
Arleth Terán as Lidia, Charly’s Mom/ Monchi’s sister-in-law, now wife whom he calls “Ojitos” because of her pretty eyes
Pakey Vázquez as Ramón Cruz 'Monchis'
Harding Junior as Ben Rickson, DEA Agent.
????????? as Érick/Mateo, Yameli’s son
????????? as Vanessa, Charly’s Daughter
????????? as Diana, Charly’s Wife and Manager
????????? as Tonio, Monchi’s right hand man
????????? as Wendy, Juanjo’s current girlfriend.
RGV Chick: I'm soooo looking forward to seeing Karma hitting Charly & Co., once Yameli gets her revenge.
Big question is whether the revenge will be bloodthirsty ? I'm going with Hell YES !
I missed some parts last night because I was also watching hockey. Sorry I didn't see the baby's birth or the abuela murder. So now Yameli has lost three generations of family to evil Monchi. I thought before that Charly's mom didn't want to be married to Monchi, but that she had no choice.
Glad Yameli has been working out and continuing to write songs in prison. She will be prepared for the next phase of her life.
Thanks Steve, Diana, RGV Chick,Judy B, Susanlynn for the kind thoughts and condolences. We are rejoicing as well as sorrowing for our tiny angel.
And I think "Ojitos" fell for Monchi's seeming generosity in buying Yameli's house and "helping" her grandmother. Hah! Well, not the first time a trusting female bought into a rogue's BS. Bring on Spanish Hallmark! Puhleeze!
BODY COUNT:
1.) Daddy Montoya
2.) Mommy Montoya
3.) Music Producer from Miami, FL
4.) Fanny
5.) Granny Tita: SMH
A stab in the dark...at anything (a few notes)
Yameli and her cell mate (and protector) whisper and excitedly discuss what I gather is the plan for Yameli's route from prison to spy. They must be overheard as soon the gossip is spreading and menacing inmate calls whom I think is "evil Teo" who instructs Yameli be "taken care of". A drink is laced with a venomous liquid...Her friend takes the first, liberal gulp and Yameli finishes. Almost immediately, Yameli writhes in agony and falls to the floor. Next, her friend falls. Yameli wakes up, hooked up to machines- I gather her friend did not make it.
We next see Yameli in an idyllic setting in an oceanside villa with blue water and the gorgeous Marcelo Cordoba. I gather he is her mentor - as he is working with her for vocal training. A dance instructor is less successful as Yameli flounders in 6 inch heels. I have no idea what character he is or what their relationship is - I gather they knew each other and he seems a bit smitten.
Not sure of the order of things, but Charly and Juanjo get into it as Charly starts an impromptu singalong with some adoring fans. Juanjo is backed up by a friend who later ends up interviewing Charly - not knowing what was said, Charly does not look happy. Charly's wife doesn't either.
Charly and Juanjo appear to erase any physical memories of Yameli.
Judy, I like Arleth too! I didn't watch Juan Querendon and wish I had.
Please correct what I got wrong. Again, just a few things of what I saw and heard. Or, what I thought I saw or heard!
Diana
Susanlynn--yes, I'm watching this one. I like Michelle Renaud and the 8 pm time slot. Was happy to see Marcelo Cordoba as well. Makes sense for the youthful Charly actor to play his son.
I think Marcelo/Jack was assigned by the DEA to train Yameli for her new undercover role. He seems to have major experience in the music business, and is both tough and sympathetic with her. Plus, he has that cool villa by the sea.
The interview with Charly? (I use the Spanish closed captions to help me.) The interviewer seemed to be an associate of Juanjo's as well as having a role in the radio station(?). Anyway, he was asking Charly some hard questions about how he composed his earliest hit (the one by Yameli). He was pressuring Charly so much that Charly walked out on the interview. Later, Charly took Yameli's notebook of songs from his safe and set it on fire.
After Juanjo tore up the strip of photos, he must have decided it was time to move on and leave Yameli in the past. He proposed to his girlfriend (Wendy?)and she happily accepted.
WOW!! Diana, Susanlynn and La Paloma, what a great team you all make!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the recap!
I figured some hearts would skip a beat when I saw Mauricio. I remember how so many ladies swooned over him when he was in “Ramón “ and he looks so much better here! RAWWRR!
Just to add to the the details— The DEA decided to report that Yameli died as a result of the poisoning. The poisoning actually worked in favor of Yameli since Monchis had already been told that she was going to be helping the DEA. In fact, that's why he ordered that she be killed. Idiot doesn’t even know that his plan is backfiring on him! Ha!!
More tomorrow!
Sunny and clear and warm here. 70s
Thank you Susanlynn, La Paloma, anon and Rgv Chick. Now, last night's story is cohesive and correct.
So, Yami and Juanjo were the music creators. Pivotal piece of information La Paloma!
Susanlynn, Marcelo and Michele sizzle don't they? I like Juanjo but he ain't Marcelo. Sigh.
Rgv Chick, I really hope you get to see "Pasion" sometime. In addition to Rulli and Levy, it has Marcelo. He was one of my favorite characters and I fell in love with him as an actor. With a bit of a crush on him too.
So, our Pierre Louis is also in this! Also, Arturo and Brandon Peniche appear sometime in the story.
Looking forward to hear from you Judy this morning.
This will be fun - Diana
P.S. The sun is finally shining here. A good omen for my staycation this week.
RGV Chick: Things are getting juicy.
If you liked "Bella y Las Bestias", you'll love "REINA"!
Was admiring Michelle's incredibly straight back and great posture in the yoga pose on the beach. Didn't see this until breakfast time (with an ailing Kizzie on my lap) because I was out last night with Colombian friend. Trying to speak Spanish in a crowded, noisy restaurant for 3 hours is EXHAUSTING. Still feel wiped out today and was kind of goofy and distracted in Saturday class I'm taking to try and figure out my cellphone.
Judy, still more of a rotary dial and party line kind of gal.
Thanks everybody! Diana, hope you enjoy your staycation and don't do a bit of work. Don't cook a meal. Nuthin' Just kick back and relax. (I know, us gals don't get to do that, but sounds good doesn't it?)
Glad you had fun with your friend but I can only imagine how tiring the conversation was.
And I must confess, I still have a flip phone (hanging my head rather ashamedly)...I give you a world of credit for taking the next step. I have to join the 21st century but am simply just putting it off. I am fairly adept on things computer related but have a dormant gene in terms of phone communication. :)
I'll try and take your advice amiga, but am so happy to be off - even a week of backbreaking cleaning would be welcome as I won't be at work. Of course, I'll do SOME cleaning, but plan on just kicking back.
Diana
I’ll get MARCELO”s name right this time The only time I’ve seen him is in “Rrramón” so I’ll be looking for “Pasión” to gel lots of eye candy…with Rulli and Levy too? Ay, Caray! will my heart be able to withstand that? Which “Pasión” is that?
Diana, “So, our Pierre Louis is also in this! Also, Arturo and Brandon Peniche appear sometime in the story.” Squeee! More eye candy! And JudyB, I agree about the the DEA agent…finally a TN with lots to admire :-)
JudyB, you were SO right about the actor playing Erick. Lidia had already mentioned that he looked a lot like Charly, but wow, I didn’t expect that same actor to be playing that part. So, if Erick looks exactly like Charly, why hasn’t Charly noticed the resemblance and questioned it? I know he was a way in Miami until recently, but surely Lidia would have sent him pics or even videos of the family. And how long before Yameli/Lari sees him and starts questioning the resemblance. Will she ask for a report about the fire which supposedly killed her Granny Tita and the baby? Did anyone even know that there was a baby in the house? Ugh? So many questions already! This is my kinda story!
Diana, I hope you have a very restful week; and JudyB, I remember my first experience with cell phones (including a flip phone, Diana) and TEXTING using abbreviations/acronyms. The only thing I knew “LOL” to stand for was “Lots of Love.” I was shocked when a male employee included “LOL” in a text and wondered, “What is wrong with this guy?” When I found out that “LOL” now meant “laughing out loud”. I felt like such a fool JAJAJAJA (LOL :-)
Chickie, Charky did not notice the resemblance because....well, because it's Charly who is too wrapped up in himself to notice a trying that isn't him.
I first saw Marcelo when I suffer into "Alborada"on Univision about 11years ago . He played Don Luis's{Fernando Colunga) loyal bodyguard. He was young and beautiful , kind and protective, loyal and sweet. All the best adjectives to describe someone.Alborada is still my favorite telenovela..It is historical fiction. Just the theme song alone sung by Placido Dominga thrilled me . It is a wonderful story of romance, honor, and devotion to between soul mates and friends.
Too wrapped up in himself to notice anything that isn't him. Sorry..I am hurrying.
I didn't even mind food shopping and loads of endless laundry today! Not having the Sunday blues thinking about work tomorrow has buoyed me considerably! And Judy, I actually am going out to eat tonight, where, I could care less! :)
Rgv Chick, Pasion is the full TN name and I don't know how I could have forgotten to mention my favorite actress, Susana Gonzales is the leading lady. I really hope it is rerun soon.
I hope you are all basking in sunshine today and that you are happy and peaceful...
Diana
Colunga was born to play historical romances. Honestly, none of the TNs set in modern times seemed to compare (IMHO). He hasn't done anything in a while, has he? Unfortunately a fate for many excellent actors now...
Diana
Love the new sidebar postings. andy, Judy, doris and Rosemary you've outdone yourselves.
Love every single one.
Diana
OT-
Diana, I was looking into Pasion and wow, what a cast! I do hope they run it again; I would love to see Colunga, Levy, Rulli and Cordova in the same TN...who cares about the story! But I did read a summary of it and it does sound like it was good :-)
Hot and sunny here..more like June instead of May the last few days. Thunderstorms last night. Going up to high 80s today.
Half an hour to showtime.
Judy, not quite as relaxing a day as I'd hoped but am getting things done...Trying to keep Juliet calm as we are having major thunderstorms after getting to over 80 for the first time this year! Sounds like you are having similar weather Susanlynn.
Rgv Chick, Pasion has a star studded cast and I know you will love it!!!
Diana
REINA
A few brief notes for what they're worth.
You Can’t Go Home Again
Jack and Yemeli lounging by the ocean as he promises to introduce her to the crème de la crème. At the gathering, Yemeli descends the staircase in a red slip of a dress, looking lovely. Jack is transfixed and for a moment, his heart is on his sleeve. Yemeli mingles (a bit) and speaks with one of the men asking for “Charly”. He agrees.
Yemeli goes to her former home (?) now covered with graffiti and visits the bridge where the 3 amigos were all for one and one for all. I’m not clear what she sees at her parent’s grave but Juanjo must have done something – put in a headstone?
Whatever the gesture, she cries and later reads his unread letters and sheds more tears.
She later watches behind a tree and sees Juanjo with his finance.
Yem checks in with hawt DEA agent (included this for Judy :) Erick is at an arena where there is not fist fighting, but singing. His nerves get the best of him and he ends up throwing up. Several times.
Erick is singing/composing in his room and catches a cab. He is followed.
At his performance, Charly is mobbed by the paparazzi and fans. Charly gets a glimpse of Yemeli and the thunderbolt hits. Hard. Ack – Pierre Louis is his friend/bodyguard. He is joined on stage by his cloying, manipulative not so sweet wife. Yami fumes as she takes Jack’s call. He says something about her son but I don’t know what it was.
Yameli is followed by Charly. What will happen??
Diana
Juanjo added the picture of her abuelita to the grave stones and she realizes just what a loyal friend he has been all this time, even though she didn't answer any of his letters.
Later, at the concert, she is overwhelmed by her hatred of Charly when she sees him prancing around, and wonders whether she can pull off this charade. Jack reminds her that her abuela and her son are watching over her from heaven and will give her the strength and fortitude to do this.
Your descriptions of the characters are perfect. I'm just amazed at all the subtleties you pick up. But just goes to prove that the greatest proportion of our communication is body language and tone of voice. The actual words are the least part by far.
You rock lady. Sending you good vibes for your staycation. I'm babysitting today so that's my treat. Makes all the drudgery of cleaning, cooking and weeding worthwhile.
Nope, still another comment. Learned a new word "parte aguas" sometimes written as one "parteaguas". Charley was talking about a "watershed" moment in his nascent career and used that word. Always excited to learn new vocabulary.
