In his eagerness that his family does not lack anything, Antonio is generous and his children Eduardo, Javier, and Viviana become good for nothing, they do nothing but spend the money in superficial things, while his wife Catalina only worries about staying beautiful with surgeries. On the day of his birthday, Antonio realizes what he has caused when none of his loved ones remembers to congratulate him, and to top it off they only appear to ask for more and more. That's when Antonio explodes and decides to put a limit. From now on each of them will have to work to earn a living. His life falls apart with the arrival of Julieta from whom he will no longer be able to separate."

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

Tonight's recap will probably be quick and dirty. I volunteered and forgot about the basketball game!

reina-sur2

Very brief…sorry…basketball again.

LA REINA DEL SUR - JUEVES

In Málaga we observe a clever trick. While the Galicians look on Sheila pretends her car won’t start outside Conejo’s house. She raises the hood, helping to hide Teresa in the passenger seat. Siso smells a rat and walks toward the car. But when he’s almost there, he gets a call from Cayetana, saying Teresa is at her house. Conejo is helped into the trunk and off they go.

Sofía, so clever, watches a boy making money by juggling during red lights at intersections. She asks about making money this way. Then she joins him waving some sticks with fabric attached, and we see a flashback of her flag performance in Italy.

Cayetana tells Charo that the Mexican put the noose around her own neck giving her the DNA results. She plans to get custody of Sofía.

The two children are doing well as a team. Sofía shows the boy her math skills.

We see a warm reunion with Conejo, who says she thinks of Sofía as her granddaughter and is willing to go all out to get her back.

Cayetana finesses the Galicians, who are furious at being tricked. She tells them it’s not over; they should return to Galicia.

Sergio is reviewing his drugs. His whole drug thing confuses me. Is he selling his own prescriptions? He’s pretty crazy, so not sure how this is working out. Jonathan calls to say he’s coming over.

Some crooked cop meets Batman at the house where they held Sofía. Lupo arrives and gets a return call from Teresa. By her tone he can tell Sofía hasn’t been able to rat him out. But Batman smirks at the body parts Teresa will cut from him when she finds out what he did.

Flores is grilling Fermín, Conejo’s ex. Flores is flustered; rinse, repeat.

All the Spaniards are in the plane that Willy sent. If it’s all set up, why the nervous moments while the passports are scrutinized?

Jonathan tells Willy he’ll have a chance to search Manuela’s house while he visits Sergio.

We see that the charming little urchin has a guy ordering him around, and there is a mention of a Doña Somebody (didn’t write down the name) who is running this scam. Shades of Oliver Twist. This sweet kid buys Sofía a taco.

The plane takes off for Mexico.

Sofía is able to buy some cheap shoes at a market.

When Sofía and the boy have some money, Sofía wants to visit an Internet café. There she learns that Morgana didn’t lie. She sees articles about La Reina del Sur and even sees a picture of her father. She cries.

reina-sur2

Wow, novelera. This is a marvellous recap. Yes, it's short, but you very clearly and succinctly capture everything that matters. And I loved your "Flores is flustered; rinse, repeat."

I found myself quite confused by the sequence at Conejo's. It looked as if Teresa was somehow controlling the phone call to Siso. She watches, and then just as Siso is about to reach the car and see her, she says "Now!" and Siso's phone rings with the call from Cayetana. Huh? Surely Teresa had nothing to do with the phone call, nor with its timing, but it sure looked as if she did. As a coincidence, it's absurdly over the top. Am I missing something here?

Do we know the name of the resourceful little boy who helps Sofia? He knows her name, but I don't think that either Sofia or we know his. Amusingly, she at first thinks his name is Simón, because he says simón" several times. He explains that it simply means . She finds this strange.

I didn't find it odd that everyone was so tense when the guy came on the plane to check passports. Even I was tense! Yes, everything had been arranged, but things have a way of going awry. Fortunately this time all was well, and everyone gave a sigh of relief. Including me. :-)

Thank you, novelera. There is nothing wrong with “short”. I really enjoyed your recap with my café this a.m.

Juanita, it was/still is confusing! After watching this a.m. and hearing Cayetana saying she was going to have to convince Siso that Teresa was gone, it was not clear to how far she would have gone or had already gone ?? to help Teresa. She did tell Charo she would do anything to get custody of Sofía as payback which clearly disappointed Charo who had thought she had turned over a new leaf. I am still left with ????

I felt so sorry for Sofía finding out the truth on the internet and wonder how this new information could help Cayetana in her pursuit of custody if it ever gets that far. On the other hand, I like her new buddy showing her the ropes. I didn’t like Doña Mercedes’ enforcer. With “Merced” meaning “mercy” her name is quite ironic at this point. At least Sofía has shoes and some food.

I am beginning to wonder how Francesco came to work for Epifanio. Does Epifanio have something on him?

Ha! Flores ended up empty handed one more time.

It was great seeing Teresa getting her gang together as Rocío and Paloma looked on with I am sure a thousand questions in their heads.

POQUITO:

Not quite caught up, but I did catch it live on Weds. night -- I can't believe how fast the plot is moving. Elvis already knows Fonsi was responsible for the bachelor party video, and Beto (does he remind anyone else my age of Dondi?) has confessed his love for Vivi. Adelante!

Un Poquito Tuyo, Ep 4 Part I

Catalina confronted Julieta, calling her a 5th-rate golddigger. Argument, during which Francisco defended his daughter. Catalina ranted that Julieta is being kept by Antonio, who impoverished his family to buy her that dumb store. Lety tried to stop her and get her to leave but she fainted.

At the demonstration the molotov cocktail was thrown, police put up smoke bombs, and the crowd dispersed. Javier and Madonna ran into the janitor's closet, which was semi-underground with no windows.

Antonio left a second message for Catalina. His secretary tried to get him to go to a marketing meeting but he said he had to see his boss to tender his resignation. [He wasn't kidding about that before. This is loco].

Julieta and Lety fanned Catalina to try to revive her when Elvis came in. He and his buds carried her out to his car to take her to the hospital. Julieta and Lety got into the car with them.

Erick and Rosita speculated on what was going on, thinking that perhaps the bosses had gone broke and they would lose their jobs. Vivi whined that her father must be going nuts. [We agree, but we don't agree with your reason for thinking so.]

While trying to install a light above the garage Eduardo fell from the ladder in front of two students who had heard Vivi's announcement and came looking to rent rooms. Introductions. One girl's name is Azucena [didn't catch the other's]

Vivi was sweeping the yard and continued to whine about her dad being nuts. Rosita said she will be grateful someday. Johnny took off his swimwear and skinny-dipped. Rosita tried to cover Vivi's eyes. She later scolded him and he apologized, having thought the house was empty.

There was a rat in the janitor's closet; Madonna got scared and jumped into Javier's arms.

Antonio talked to his boss, explaining that he needed to focus on his family. The boss told him that the door would always be open to him to return [We'll see when the time comes.] Laura came in and told Antonio his wife was in the hospital. He hurried out.

Eduardo introduced the two girls and talked with Vivi about the arrangements. She wanted the money but he said it had to go to their dad for upkeep of the house.

Elena tried explaining everything to her dad. Gregoria showed up and got in their faces because her little boy could do no wrong. Julieta called Elena who told her about all the arguments at her end, saying that the only person at fault was Elvis.

The doctor told Julieta that Catalina had a sudden drop in blood sugar while Lety called Mateo demanding that he pick her up or face the consequences.

The boys rearranged a room for the girls and asked what they were studying. Eduardo said he was taking time off to help his dad.

Un Poquito Tuyo, Ep 3 Part II

Antonio got to the hospital and heard what happened. He went to emergency and told Julieta that this is how Catalina reacts to stressful situations. Julieta felt guilty and Catalina woke up just in time to see him give Julieta a comfort hug. Of course this meant more misunderstanding and more accusations tat Catalina didn't want to hear denied.

Elvis and his bros argued about what happened; the nabe is already talking.

Eduardo was playing guitar and singing for the two new chicks who then talked about getting some food. He then took a photo of Vivi and Johnny in the background, apparently flirting. He sent it to Beto with a text to come over.

Javier and Madonna were found and ejected by the janitor.

Julieta told Catalina off about her situation and how wrong she was about her husband.

Elvis and Julieta argued. Antonio told him off because all of this was his fault, finally telling him to apologise to Catalina like a man.

The pool party continued. Beto came over to tell Viviana something. She started to say she loved him...as a friend. She didn't want to mess things up. Whether she was really attracted to him or not, she flirted with Johnny in front of him. [Sorry, little girl, but this is very declassée.]

Elvis apologized to Catalina who did not buy it on the grounds that he couldn't possibly know if Antonio and Julieta are lovers. At the same time his bros worried about their involvement in this. Elvis came out and told them they had to share his humiliation and apologize as well.

Beto was sitting alone while Vivi sat with Johnny, who asked Eduardo if he knew some oldies, like The Doors and Queen [I like this guy even more]. Vivi is a big Freddie Mercury fan, but Eduardo doesn't know his music. Beto tried to leave but Vivi stopped him. He told her he loved her. She looked shocked.

Catalina apologized to Antonio [We'll see how long this lasts] and the doctor released her.

Mateo is apparently a tour guide; he stopped the tour bus in front of the hospital and made like the hospital was a planned stop on the tour. Lety came out and told him a highly exaggerated version of events. They all went into the van and left.

Fonsi had taken off and Elvis left with the other guy. The fifty thousand pesos came into the conversation and the friend said he could get the info for him. Elvis wrote the check and handed it to him. Apparently it was Fonsi who sent the vid to Elena.

Lupita told the servants what she was up to. She had been a famous singer twenty years previously. Rosita was making sandwiches for the kids' party. Javier came home and told Eduardo about Madonna, including the fact that he expected to knock another guy out of the competition for her.

Who was then talking to Madonna about getting a place so they could get married. This was news to her as she was not thinking about marriage just yet. She left the room and he saw a text from Javier on her cell.

Julieta and Elena talked about Elvis and he arrived just in time and told them that Fonsi had sent the vid.

When Antonio and Catalina got home the party had grown exponentially. The garden was full of guests. Rosita was serving drinks while Erick manned the grill. Someone jumped into the pool and Antonio got splashed.

Un Poquito Tuyo, Ep 3 comment

How Catalina thinks she has class is beyond my understanding. Francisco should be happy that his daughter isn't marrying that overgrown child, who is getting on my nerves.

If I had been consulted I would have suggested that Antonio only take a leave of absence from work. I'm also betting that when he decides to go back his job will have been taken by someone else.

Think about what journalistic fodder this situation will be for Johnny.

Sorry; this was episode 4.

POQUITO:

Also, Fonsi goes to see Elena and accuses her in front of Julieta of sabotaging the wedding because she's in love with Elvis herself! And she looks super-guilty! Guau!

Poquito

Thanks, Urban. I hope to catch up this weekend.

"POQUITO":

Jarifa: I'm assuming this Teleserye is good ?

Reina 2

novelera, wonderful how you captured this whole story.

I think those are Sergio's prescriptions, I've read where people can go to multiple pharmacies and multiple doctors to get opioids but he has access to powerful anti-depressants.

the passport thing is confusing, a government official comes on the plane (the wildcard in the plan) and checks the passports before they leave, like when Teresa went to Russia on that Moroccan military plane, (but there is nothing shown when they land). Let's see, 2 Russians, 2 Moroccan's, Conejo, 2 young Spanish girls and the famous Reina del Sur, all with Mexican passports on a private DEA plane, nothing suspicious here.

Juanita, confusing but I think his name is Simon.

yep, I didn't buy Conejo's getaway plan either, but since Teresa had some time to work on it I assumes Cayetana was in on it, Charo assumed it was because Teresa was helping her granddaughters, nope, (odd twist that Cayetana does good things but says bad things), sounds like she will be giving Siso another chance to take Teresa out later on but for now the priority is to get Sofia back from the kidnappers.

Sofia is breaking my heart, (what a wonderful actress), I sent takeout food to their street corner.

why oh why didn't she call her mother?

reina-sur2

Yep, I was also confused by Cayetana's call at the same time Teresa was fiddling with her phone. I assumed that somehow Oleg had faked a recording of Cayetana saying Teresa was at her house, and Teresa had sent the faked call to keep Siso from finding her. They sort of left out the part where Teresa and Cayetana work together to get Siso away so the plan to smuggle Conejo out would work.

Cayetana is a piece of work. She basically told Charo that those other two granddaughters were dead to her. But she told Teo's picture that she'd get revenge. Teresa took her child; and she'd take Teresa's.

Deb, loved your plan to send a Door Dash to Sofía and the delightful little boy. I don't think his name is Simon, though. I wished I'd had more time to write things down, but he did this little speech where he explained all the "Mexicanisms" to her: simón for yes and some very cute ways to say no that I can't think of right now.

Deb, she didn't call her mother because the writers need Sofía not to tell her mother about Lupo. Lupo is a main character and likely not outed until close to the end. Also, I strongly suspect she'll be recaptured to put the Zurdo Villa plan in motion. For some reason I had forgotten what zurdo means. So, basically we're talking about one "Lefty" Villa.

Un Poquito Tuyo

Recap will be posted tomorrow. Had a rough day today.

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 – VIERNES

The gang is on the plane to Mexico, Teresa tells Oleg she’s afraid Sofia will find out her past. We see Sofia call Teresa’s cell from a payphone and leave a voicemail that she already knows the truth.
Jonathan/Esteban is at Sergio and Manuela’s house checking it out. Jonathan asks to use the bathroom in order to spy some more and finds a laptop and some papers. Jonathan pretends to be going through Manuela’s drawers and pinches a key from a hook on the wall. He copies it with a key copy app on his phone.
Washington, D.C. Willy is at home and suddenly hears urgent knocks on the door. Somebody named Margaret tells him Ray is in trouble with the authorities for doing something with crypto currency. They leave in a big hurry to help him.
After disembarking, Teresa hears Sofia’s voicemail and is devastated. The crew surrounds her and she replays it for them. Teresa says those people didn’t keep their end of the bargain, they must have told Sofia her real name.
Sofia and Simon sit in the park together, Simon found some material she can use to make a flag for their act. She’s still crying over what she found out and Simon tells her she’s lucky she has a mother, he has nobody at all. (Poor Simon!)
Batman and Francesco/Lupo meet in the street at night. Francesco gives Batman grief for not being part of the search party. Batman replies he has 50 men on the task and he has to go see Morgana’s daughter and tell her how she died. He says he’s not relishing the task but he seems pretty jazzed about it. Francesco threatens him with his life and Batman blows him off.
Simon wants to ask Dona Mercedes for the best corner tomorrow since he thinks Sofia’s act will be really good. Suddenly a car drives by and Sofia tries to hide. Lupo’s car slows down and he’s looking right in their direction but doesn’t see her.
As Alejandro and Epifanio discuss the search, Teresa calls. She wants to know who told Sofia her real name, she says the deal is off and hangs up.
Malaga. Lawyer Rodrigo Menendez arrives at Cayetana’s house to talk about her plans to gain custody of Sofia.
Teresa calls Epifanio again and demands to see Sofia today. She tells him he’s outside his house. Epifanio is in disbelief she found him and tries to stall but then lets her in.
Sofia and Simon walk the subway tunnels to where Simon stays in a little niche in the wall.
Teresa tells Epifanio she needs to talk to her daughter. Alejandro is quick with a lie that Sofia refuses to talk to her. T gives them 2 days.
Washington, D.C. Willy and Margaret get to Ray’s house. Ray was involved in a sting gone wrong with a 5 million bitcoin transaction where he was hired to track a shady deal and was tricked by some Korean party who stole the bitcoins and now both his bosses and the Koreans are looking for him. Willy says Ray will have to flee to Mexico, Ray is dubious as Willy always warned him against going to Mexico where his uncle (el Guero Davila) was killed. Willy says he knows someone (Teresa) who can help.
Back at the house with the crew, Teresa calls Batman and simply tells him she knows everything. Batman suelta la sopa! He tells her about Morgana and that Sofia escaped.
Back in D.C. four toughs arrive in a car, there’s a gunfight and the three of them escape by the skin of their teeth.
Alejandro’s watching surveillance footage from the subway. He sees Sofia “not” get on a train. He figures out they were in the tunnels. He is just too smart!
In the morning, Teresa, Batman and Oleg meet up. Teresa wants to go to the kidnap house to look for clues as to where Sofia might be. Batman agrees, he has a soft spot for Sofia. Not only that but he wants to help her bring down el Zurdo Villa.
At Dona Mercedes’ house, it’s a wonderland. It’s big, well decorated and there’s what?! A chocolate fountain and a disco ball! She agrees to let them work the same intersection as before but not without threatening her not to try to cheat her out of half their earnings.
As soon as they leave, Mercedes calls someone to say “the girl has appeared”….So much happened this episode!

reina-sur2

Thanks VERY much, blockhead, for this excellent recap! You're right, a lot happened, and you got it all.

So Margaret is el Güero's sister. I remember when he brought Teresa to meet her. The sister looked very different then, but of course many years have now passed. I'm guessing that Ray's technical expertise may turn out to be useful for Teresa, the way Alberto's was in Reina1.

Was it Alejandro who was watchng the subway footage? The guy looked very familiar to me, and he's clearly smart, like Alejandro, but his face seemed a lot thinner than Alejandro's. Then again, I'm not great with faces.

Anyway, thanks again for this terrific recap. I hope you'll do more of them when you can.

reina-sur2

Excellent recap, Blockhead! You got it all. And you are so right. I can't believe how much happened.

This novela surprises me over and over again. I never expected Sofía to call her mother. I never expected Teresa to find out that Epifanio no longer has Sofía.

I LOVED Teresa's scene with Epifanio and Alejandro, especially the part where she verbally slapped Alejandro down. She told Epifanio things were going Culichi style from now on.

And Batman may be about to be redeemed. But he still hasn't told her about Lupo/Francesco's involvement.

I'd love to see Teresa slap the smug off Alejandro's face!

Interesting callback to Gúero Davila. And...Willy... you are amazing. He got the best of all those armed guys.

Apologies, deb. I guess the kid's name really is Simon. I got confused by the simón conversation.

So Doña Mercedes has told the bad guys she's found Sofía. Rats! I was hoping for more scenes of Sofía and Simon being together in the streets of D.F.

Reina 2

wow blockhead, loved your recap, so unique and it does the trick in short steps, but could I call you by another name.

crypto currency is hard to grasp, ha!, yep so Ray is our new hacker/IT guy, Willy did good.

Batman, the despicable fat guy with long toed boots, why do I love him, he is going to go the extra mile because he admires Sofia, the hand shake with Teresa, to the death.

ya know to watch 24 hours of a surveillance camera takes 24 hours, to watch all of Mexico City's subway cameras would be...

has anyone noticed the Epi posters around where Sofia is, by the phone, after the call, did you see the one of Epi smiling, and next to him is Sofia, what?

blockhead, thanks for the wonderful recap! It was a nice treat this morning.

novelera, I was so happy (for just a second) that Doña Mercedes might not be all that bad, when I saw what her house looked like with the chocolate fountain and yes! the disco ball, but then why did she have to have the wrong connections? I, too, was looking forward to more street adventures with the two kids. On the other hand, though, we don’t know who she was talking to yet.

deb, that poster shot of Epifanio with a smiling Sofía was sort of disconcerting. Another way of trying to find her by having the public become aware of her?

Juanita, thanks for reminding us about Margaret and Ray.

I was impressed with Simon’s hole in the wall living quarters with him being as young as he is. So, it looks like Doña Mercedes is a member of a corner syndicate that makes money off of kids by controlling corner real estate that belongs to the state ( not them) by sheer force. Before I saw Simon’s “home”, I thought she might house these kids somehow.

It was good that Batman told the truth to Teresa about Sofía and will be helping her for Sofía’s sake.

Can’t wait till the next episode!

Un Poquito Tuyo, Ep 5 Part I

Antonio lost it at his children about the pool party. They asked for two more hours but he said No Way and grabbed the microphone. He announced that the party was over and they were to leave immediately. He put his cell phone up to the mike so they could hear that he had called the police. Panic led to quick departures and protests from Eduardo and Vivi.

Elvis demanded that Elena explain why she gave the video to Julieta. Elena said she did it for Julieta's own good. Julieta told him that it wasn't the video that made her drop his butt, but his betrayal.

Tomás started in with Madonna about Javier. [This is not going to end well.]

Elena had originally lied about who sent the video and her motive for stopping the wedding was questioned. Julieta told Elvis to leave. She believed Elena's motive was to protect her. Elvis talked with Francisco who could not see any wrongdoing because his daughters were close.

Antonio changed into casual clothes and toldl Catalina that this will have consequences. She said he should not treat his children like criminals. The kids had to clean up. The boys seemed to get it but Vivi still felt entitled. Catalina told Antonio he was trying to do too much at once, but could not talk him down. He told her that she will now see what a father's mission really is.

Francisco and Gregoria fought again, then he told her the truth about Elena showing the video to Julieta.

Elvis confronted Fonsi, who apparently also works for him. Fonsi kept making excuses, but Elvis fired him.

Gregoria wasn't having it, continuing the insults to his daughters. Francisco defended them, saying that Elena made a mistake, but Julieta is not a floozie and was not involved with the other man who, BTW, is married. Gregoria then said that made Julieta an adultress and husband-stealer. Francisco called her a bitter old woman and she slapped him. He calmly told her there would be consequences and when she started in again he grabbed and kissed her. This was caught on the security camera and Elton happened to be in the same room as the monitor. Gregoria ordered Francisco to leave and he said she had a heart of stone.

Elena ran into Fonsi who accused her of wanting to break up the wedding becauses she wanted Elvis. She told him to bug off.

Lety and Mateo received an eviction notice for non-payment of rent. He said they needed to move and she refused to move to a “lesser” neighborhood.

Vivi whined at what she was reading on social media, more than 1500 comments. Eduardo said to their father that it wasn't cool to stop the party. Antonio told him it wasn't cool to give a party during an austerity program. He asked who was responsible and each pointed at the other. Vivi whined about going from rich to poor overnight. Antonio said he was about to correct this. They still tried to wiggle out of his reproach by saying they went into business together to get tenants but Antonio stood firm. He told them they had better look for work and he would be in his study if they had anything else to say.

The two female students talked about this. One really dug Eduardo but the other said he was possibly a womanizer. Javier barged in and quickly apologized. Catalina came in and learned what was up, then yelled for Antonio.

Un Poquito Tuyo, Ep 5 Part II

Gregoria ranted in front of Elvis, who corrected her about Julieta and Antonio. Madonna left the table, annoyed.

Lety came to Antonio for help but he told her that Banco Solano es cerrado and she had to learn to pay her own bills. She had to learn to manage a household and Mateo had to do better.

Antonio laid down the law at dinner. Rent collected from their tenants was to go to the household account. This was not negotiable. Caralina didn't like this either because of the intrusion and inconvenience. Nobody believed him when he announced that he had resigned his position at the bank. Then he said he would seek out a humble job to set an example for the others. The kids wondered what to do.

Elena, who had bought a new cell phone, sent a flirtatious message to Elvis who – of course – did not recognize the number. He found this annoying and a little creepy until she told him she thought he was hot. [He has an ego the size of a small planet.]

Julieta called Antonio to find our how Catalina was. He told her she was okay but everything else was like a bad movie. He later thought of her name and added “Romeo.”

The kids talked in front of Catalina about work. She told them they had to study; she was sure that Antonio would get over this.

Madonna texted Javier that they had to talk. Tomás had seen the message and it made him angry. She said it would be best for him to not work in her mother's shop, but he refused to chicken out. [BTW, Tomás is a cop.]

Vivi sat at the pool's edge that night and thought about Beto's confession. Johnny took her picture but she was not in the mood.

Eduardo caught up with Azucena and flirted with her but she ducked out. He then flirted with her bestie (whose name might be Violeta).

Vivi asked Johnny how he would deal with a female bestie if she suddenly declared she was in love with him. He saw that this was really about Beto, which she tried to deny. He told her to just be honest. “For example...” he took her hands and made a similar declaration. She told him her parents would ship him back to the US if they heard this. He kissed her … and was caught by Catalina. Vivi made up a reason for this (practice for drama class), but her mum didn't buy it.

Antonio scolded Vivi, who continued to whine about his orders.

Lupita was on the phone trying to line up a gig. Javier came to her for help with his situation. She told him a story about how her relationship with her late husband which gave him food for thought.

Gregoria asked Madonna what was wrong and was not happy to hear about Javier's interest in her. She threatened to fire him but changed her mind when Madonna explained that he was helping his parents.

Javier went into what had been his room. The girls woke up and the usual ruckus ensued.

Antonio had a nightmare about a costume party in which Vivi was pregnant by Johnny. He woke up suddenly so Catalina realized he had another nightmare. He said that Freddy Kruger would not have been as bad. She said she needed him to get her car back and begged him not to quit his position at the bank. Nope; it was a done deal.

Vivi and Eduardo went to Beto's place of employment to see if they could work there.

Erick and Rosita resigned.

Elvis asked Elena if she knew of anyone who was obsessed with him.

Antonio went to the neighborhood to get Catalina's car and then ran into Julieta.

La Reina del Sur 2~~
Blockhead and Novelera: Thanks mucho for taking the time to give us a couple of concise and painless recaps. All the highlights are there and even a few answers to the persistent headscratchers Telemundo's editing creates for me. I am having difficulty following some of the storyline at times here which lends to our confusion at who is in cahoots with whom. I supposed Cayetana's was a timely call to Siso (el supuesto seso de su "clan"). Yes or no? Dunno. Was it Oleg or Caye? --Anyway I am thoroughly enjoying this production and almost as much as RdS1. Nice to see some familiar and some new faces here.

Marc Tacher is Alejandro, Epi's advisor. Was surprised and pleased to see Eduardo Yanez ad his and Kika Edgar's daddy. All three are top notch actors and Tacher is reaching the pinnacle of his art I do believe in this role. Have 90% of Uni's top talent traveled to the Telemundo Studio for real and for good??? Looks that way.

Thanks for the kind words, it was fun to recap this episode. Deb, I’m ok with being called blockhead, I’m a fan of New Kids on the Block, that’s what the fans are called. There must be a better nickname for us but I can’t think of one!
I also loved the argument between Teresa and Epifanio when he didn’t know how she found him. She says “Naci de noche pero no anoche”. Ha!
Love how you all remember the connections to season 1. I have forgotten alot of those details!

reina-sur2

Thank you, blockhead. A lot happened and you covered it all. And in one post.

Amazing, Epifanio's security ministry has over 50 people searching, they have access to security cameras of the subway, network of informants, moles in the police. The circle around Sofía is closing.

Teresa got lucky that she caught Batman and he thought she already knew about the escape. The race is on, who will find Sofia first. It appears that Teresa may recruit Batman to her side.

Another member of Team Teresa looks like is going to be Ray, Güero's nephew.

I wish Sofía could put her disillusionment to the side and resolve the security question first, get herself under protection of her mother, and then express her disappointment. I wish she said in the call: "I escaped. Francesco is the one who kidnapped me. I am in Mexico City, corner of M and 20th street."

Simón is so lovable. "Pura buena vibra" as he said himself. He gave comfort and shelter to Sofía when she was desperate for it.

In the behind the scenes they showed the making of Sofía's escape / horror house scene. I loved that scene. This show has a lot of action, chase scenes, and now horror. To me, this is even better than season 1.

Reina 2

wow, such great comments by everyone!

Juanita- I was confused about Margaret, this is not the girl Teresa ran to in San Diego is it? Margaret looked terrified about her son going to Mexico, but then she looked terrified about everything.

(Ray is being played by Alejandro Speitzer, the son in "Bajo el mismo cielo".)

novelera- yes wonderful scene with Teresa showing up at Epi's and totally dissing Alex.

Jarifa- Simon's nook, so he comes after the workers have left and leaves before they arrive, and didn't he say they were old fat guys so he wasn't worried about them getting into his little hole in the wall and stealing his stuff.

my first impression of Mercedes mansion was that she traffics in young girls.

Jardinera- yes the editing is adding a confusing mystery element.

blockhead- neat saying, “Naci de noche pero no anoche”, thanks for pointing that out.

Lucio- so cool watching how they did the Morgana/bus scene.

Jonathan makes a pretty good pervert and all around creepy guy, once again Pote's gun, interesting key app on his phone, but why hang a key on the hallway wall.

La Reina del Sur 2

deb, good comment about there being a possible human trafficking twist to Mercedes.

Reina del Sur 2
I am still fuzzy on the Manuela storyline. What are Jonathan and Willy trying to find out? Don’t they know how Manuela’s sister Veronica died? I just remember Veronica was a love interest of Patty OFarrell (one of my fav characters) but don’t remember exactly how she died. By the way my top favorite character of the whole season one was Fatima! The supporting casts in this series are excellent.

reina-sur2

Blockhead, I think the reason Willy and Jonathan are trying to find out as much as they can about what Manuela is up to is because she wants to kill Teresa, thinking that Teresa was responsible for Veronica's death. Willy wants to prevent Manuela from succeeding.

Actually, Teresa had nothing to do with Veronica's death. Patty was desolate at learning that Veronica was working for the DEA. Patty assumed that all the affection that Veronica had showed her was phony, whereas in fact it was mostly quite genuine. Patty and Veronica go for a ride in Patty's car. Veronica tries to convince Patty that she really cares for her, but Patty doesn't believe her. Patty drives the car fast and wildly. Finally, the car goes off the road and crashes down a high embankment, bursting into flames. Patty is seriously injured, but Veronica dies in the crash.

Fatima was one of my favorite characters as well. I say "one of" because, as you say, the supporting casts in both Reina1 and Reina2 are remarkable.

deb, thanks for the info about Alejandro Speitzer. I didn't recognize him from Bajo. As for Margaret, I'm afraid I don't remember Teresa's running into some girl in San Diego.

Reina 2

thanks Juanita, I don't remember very well but in the beginning when Teresa got out of Mexico with Willy, didn't she show up at a girls place?

we know Manuela wants to kill Teresa but I'm wondering if there is a twist to it, the day after Willy fired her, they saw her having a chummy talk with his boss, which both Willy and Jonathan found suspicious.

reina-sur2

deb, thanks for the details. I vaguely remember Teresa showing up at someone's place, but I'm not sure who that was. It's possible that it was Güero's sister, since Teresa had already met her some time earlier when Güero brought her to his sister's house, and the sister was one of the few people that Teresa could trust. But I just don't remember the event well enough.

Yes, I remember Willy and Jonathan wondering uneasily about Manuela's chummy talk with Willy's boss. I assumed that she was being chummy with the boss for the same reason she wanted Jonathan as her novio, i.e., to get as much information as she could about Teresa's whereabouts. It may be there's more to the relationship with the boss than that, but she's so obsessed with getting revenge for Veronica's death that that may be enough. (Given my track record, however, it's likely there's more to her chummy talk than that. :-)   )

Thank you UA--Can't believe you can do PASL II and this one, too. I'm really enjoying this madcap "serious" comedy, with a side serving of romance between Antonio and Julieta. My only complaint is there are too many characters coming and going, which makes it so hard to recap. You deserve extra brownie points for that.

Gracias,Anita. A couple of days ago my Quora feed included this question, which has been up for a while ad has a crapload of answers. I hope at least some of those peeps are watching this series.

Teresa and Margarita

ah, I found the clip (with english caps)

it starts with remembering meeting her, then stopping there on her way to Spain, and at the end, when Margarita gets her location for Ratas who then...

UA--I looked at the question. Here's my answer, for my own situation. If the adult children are out of the house and on their own (or ought to be), then I think a father could reasonably take a less stressful job, if he (and his wife) have banked enough to retire on later. Maybe the wife is still working at something she loves--or if he's single, he can do anything he likes. I'm taking my own family as an example. My son is dying to retire from the stressful job he has to do some of the things he's been putting off to do. He won't be able to until No. 2 son is launched. But he and my DIL have begun to go out on weekends, attend cultural activities, museums, concerts, day-trips, etc.--so it's a start.

With Antonio, I don't think it was reasonable for him to take such a drastic measure all at once. Maybe a little at a time. He should have continued to support the kids through school and launched, but maybe reign in their spending habits--or ask them to get part-time jobs to purchase luxury items on their own money, rather than laying down the law and ordering them to do so. Plenty of teens have done that. As for Cat--it's a little too late. She's high maintenance and he should have known that in the first few MONTHS of his marriage. Still, there's nothing wrong in asking her to contribute to the family expenses in return for his being able to SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER, by getting a part time job. Another proposal is to downsize their living quarters. They live in an obviously expensive house and neighborhood--pool, two servants (and perhaps a gardener we cannot see). Not necessarily to move into a ramshackle shack, but something a little more modest. I'm sure they would all balk, especially if the kids would have had to change schools. But aren't all Antonio's kids in college or about to finish prepa?

For a telenovela situational comedy, it's ok, though. His life will only be compressed into 58 episodes, not a lifetime.

Sorry, overthinking again.

reina-sur2

deb, thanks VERY much for the info and the URL. The scene it showed at the start of the episode was the one I remembered clearly--when Güero took Teresa to meet Margarita (though I had forgotten that that was her name, and so I didn't immediately match Margarita, Ray's mother, with Margarita, Güero's sister in Reina2). And I had vaguely recalled Teresa's coming to see her again before she left for Spain. I'd totally forgotten that Ratas smashed Margarita on the head with his pistol after forcing her to get Teresa's whereabouts and departure time. (Interestingly, Pote comes to Teresa's aid yet again, when he convinces Ratas not to shoot Margarita because there are police around.)

It's good to know that Ray's totally fearful mother may turn out to play a useful role in the plot.

It's amazing how powerful I found that episode from Reina1, even though I was seeing it now for the 3rd or 4th time.

Again, ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Urban, I've started to watch the first episodes of Poquito. It's silly but fun, which I guess is all one asks of a novela in the 8 pm time slot. I'm still not sure I'll be able to continue watching, but your terrific recaps have really helped. MANY THANKS!

Anita, I agree with your take on Antonio's quitting his job. And I loved your "His life will only be compressed into 58 episodes, not a lifetime."

reina-sur2

I sort of remember a completely different actor playing Güero Davila's sister. But the scenes last night reminded me of the famous Game of Thrones fight with the White Walkers -- murky. And, probably because of this I didn't recognize Alejandro Speitzer from Bajo el Mismo Cielo.

I do remember Güero bringing Teresa to meet his sister. When she came to meet the sister after getting away from Willy at the airport, it was because the sister knew where Güero had, IIRC, a million dollars in the US for Teresa, should things go south.

And, I had forgotten Ratas hitting her. Thanks, Juanita. Anyone know if it's the same actor playing Margarita. Again...murky.

reina-sur2

novelera, I'm not good with faces, so I checked imdb. And yes, they claim that an actress named Liliana Calderón played Margarita both in the third episode of Reina1 (to which deb kindly provided a link) and in Reina2. It's not clear from imdb whether she'll have much of a role in Reina2.

Un Poquito Tuyo comment

All comedy novelas come from an absurd premise or two which isn't why I don't generally gravitate to them. I do agree that Antonio's draconian rules would never be effective in the real world but then I also think that if he had been able to become successful as he had, what stopped Lety from doing so?

Most fathers would have hit the ceiling long ago about kids who always demand and do nothing to make themselves useful.

This will not end at 58 episodes.

POQUITO

UA--There must be some machismo double standard operating there. Women are supposed to grow up to get married and have their husbands take care of them. Since we don't see Mateo being able to provide that, Antonio probably stepped in to help and has been subsidizing their occupancy in the apartment ever since, as well as paying for other things as well. Funny that all of a sudden he gets a wake up call that Lety and Mateo are sponging off him and he cuts them off.

The were probably less demanding because their children are young enough to not have developed the level of entitlement of Antonio's kids. I also wonder when Antonio became affluent in the first place and how old the original story was.

I also think that subsidizing his sister and BIL would be difficult now even had he not resigned from the bank.
