Scenes
combined where it made sense to do so.
Mexico
City: Rocio kept repeating that she didn't want to hurt the
children. She then asked for forgiveness. Daniel couldn't take
this. He got up and demanded to know why she had done this. She
tried to blame him because he threatened to take them away from her
and play the recording of their argument before the judge [Why
didn't that happen? It was seriously damning]. She could not
allow that. She pointed at him and said he killed them. Carlos
guided Daniel back to his seat and told the judge he had no further
questions. The judge then requested closing arguments. Rocio's
lawyer said that it was obvious that his client was not in control of
her mental faculties or her emotionsand that this should be taken
into consideration. Carlos said that it was obvious that she had
killed her children and that this needed to be punished. She shot
dagger eyes at Daniel, who was crying. The judge called a recess.
Lourdes
kept trying to get Paula out of bed. When Paula refused Lourdes said
she would go downstairs to watch television and check on her a
little later. Paula was completely disinclined to get up. Lourdes
told her she was no fair-weather friend. She was going to stay, make
her something to eat, and get her out of the house.
The
judge decided that the murders of Rocio and Daniel's children were
aggravated homicide and the result of her emotional crisis
precipitated by the pending divorce and the fight for advantage. He
sentenced her to seventy years in prison (35 for each child). She
screamed “No. I want to die,” etc. as the judge dismissed the
court. Daniel went up to the window and demanded to know why she did
it. She screamed that she wanted to die and wanted him to die, too.
Rocio was then dragged out by female guards. [The other prisoners
will have her hide for this crime.]
Los
Cabos: Ricardo and Sofia arrived and checked into the hotel.
They were greeted by the bosses' assistant and asked to sign a
confidentiality document, which Ricardo took with him as they caught
a view.
Mexico
City: In the corridor at the women's prison Daniel once again
tried to blame Alan for this. He said he never should have listened
to his advice. Carlos tried to calm him down; saying at least he got
justice for his children and that Rocio would not get out of prison
alive. That was no consolation for this grieving father. He had
expected to feel better after the hearing but he didn't. He left.
Carlos, Alan, and Nancy all looked at each other but said nothing.
Manuel
was tanking up on coffee in the library after having been up all
night studying for his morning exam. He thought it had gone well.
Alonso arrived and imparted a few more words of wisdom, then took a
book from the shelf and left. That he had helped Manuel in something
was evident to Lorena, who was impressed.
Carlos
was a bit exhausted and irritated, but told the others he would get
back to the office after an appointment. Nancy headed there right
away and said she would see him later. Alan asked him what his
problem was and Carlos told him he gave Daniel bad advice. Alan said
that he had no idea that Rocio was crazy. Carlos said that was
because he didn't think. They went back to their ongoing issue of
Alan's mistakes and Carlos having to correct them. Just as Carlos
walked away leaving Alan dumbfounded, Téllez came up from behind
with a “What a pleasure to see you here.” This went into what
would have been a normal professional conversation (if he had been
anyone else) that segued into the ultimate demand for twice the hush
money Alan had paid him the previous time. He expected it soon. He
then went up the stairs to the building.
Los
Cabos: Ricardo and Sofia entered, introduced themselves, and
explained that Alonso sent them. Fabián handed the documents over
and described the issue. He also swore that the child could not be
his because he had never vo-de-oh-doh-dohed with the accusing woman.
Lorenza looked up at him, still trying to determine whether he was
lying or not.
Mexico
City: Adrián, Victoria, Roberto, and Carmen debriefed for
Alonso, explaining that Roberto found a law that landed the offending
cop in the slammer. They talked about their frustration at this not
having been for murder and the injustice of how these abuses seem to
be permitted. Alonso pointed out that the irony of the situation was
that California was once part of Mexico, was taken away illegally,
and now Mexican immigrants were no longer welcome there. Carmen told
them that her sister-in-law was grateful to them for their help in
claiming her son's body and the money he had in the US. She told
them that today was the funeral and she wanted to be there with her
sister-in-law. Alonso told her to go, by all means. She left.
Victoria said how bad she felt for her and others in this situation.
She was hoping to hear about her bar exam results in a few days. All
expressed confidence in her.
Los
Cabos: Ricardo asked whether Fabián knew the accuser. He
replied that he did, but never had a relationship with her. They
could not think of a motive unless it was money. Ricardo said they
needed to wait for the outcome of the test. Lorenza said that if the
test is negative she wants to countersue for
damages
on the grounds of defamation. They went over next steps. Lorenza
was hyper-concerned about discretion and Sofia eloquently assured her
that they keep all client confidences and even signed the document
for their piece of mind. They were going to see a judge the
next day, when they expected to have test results.
Mexico
City: Victoria was catching up on what piled up on her desk in
her absence when Adrián came in, wanting to take her to lunch. She
turned him down graciously, citing too much work. He asked if this
was about something else, but she said no. Still, he offered to pick
up lunch for her; she liked that he remembered that her favorite was
salad..
Juan
took Tatiana furniture shopping with him. She was wearing a blouse
and skirt from her new 9-5 wardrobe. She fell in love with a large
table that had room to seat eight or more. He was a little bemused
because he only lived with his mother but she began weaving fantasy
dinner parties with lots of crystal stemware filled with champagne.
The salesman who approached them thinking them a pair of newlyweds
and asked what they wanted to see. She said they had just moved in
together and wanted to see everything. [Juan, you have created a
monsteress.]
Carlos
met Michelle for lunch. She asked how his case went. He talked
about it in more detail than was proper and she listened as though
she were a sympathetic wife or girlfriend, expressing appropriate
horror at the idea of a mother killing her children and admiration
that Carlos had forced a confession out of her.
Tatiana
was ecstatic at whatever they bought, addressing Juan as “mi amor”
in front of the salesman, but not forgetting to say that his mother
would like the items. The salesman went off to write up the sale and
it was evident that Tatiana had the time of her life with the
masquerade. Juan was not surprised that they had been mistaken for
newlyweds as furniture salespeople see many of them, but mentioned
that the salesman didn't have to know that they were just friends.
She seemed undetered by this.
Los
Cabos: Ricardo and Sofia discussed the case. She wondered
whether Fabián was telling the truth. He said that it's not likely
that a man would admit infidelity in front of his wife. This led to
Ricardo telling Sofia that he had divorced Elena partly for her
infidelity. Sofia found that surprising. She finally put her hand
on his and said that she hoped that someday he would be happy again
because he deserved it.
Mexico
City: Michelle showed personal interest in Carlos, who
definitely found her attractive, but he told her that he had baggage.
He explained that he had been in love for a long time with and
almost married someone but something went wrong and the wedding
didn't happen. She had since died. Michelle expressed the
appropriate sympathy and the assumption that he was a man who knew
how to express his feelings. She was very inteested in him.
He said something that made her back off a little and she merely
suggested that they dine together again sometime. He seemed very
open to that. [She is an excellent strategist.]
Los
Cabos: Ricardo and Sofia continued talking. She said it was
good to confront one's feelings. He finally agreed and suggested
they go to eat at a restaurant he was itching to try. Later they ate
in a restaurant with a beachfront view and talked about the
complications of work and relationships. She mentioned that she had
had very few relationships because men often run when faced with a
female lawyer who specialized in criminal law. Ricardo said he was
sure that eventually she would find a man who appreciated her
qualities. He understood perfectly.
Mexico
City: Carlos was getting ready to leave the office when Nancy
came in to ask how his meeting went. He said it went longer than he
thought it would. She asked if she could help and he said is was not
that important. She suggested they have drinks to celebrate his
victory in court. He turned around and suggested they go to his
place. She said she would get her things and go with him. They
kissed [but we're betting he's closing his eyes and thinking of
Michelle].
Victoria
was getting ready to go home, saying she was dead tired. Adrián
agreed, saying he could sleep for two days. As they left he tried to
persuade her to go to dinner with him but she said she reallyneeded
to sleep. Roberto saw them in the elevator just before its doors
closed. He saw both of them smile.
Carlos
and Nancy got to his place and he poured two shots of mescal. As
soon as those were consumed she went all Noir Femme Fatale by
climbing onto him, removing his tie, and beginning to remove his
shirt. He unzipped her dress and they began writhing to different
sex music.
Roberto
went to one of his favorite haunts with two blondes with whom either
he or his father had previously cavorted. They asked where he had
been and he said he had had a lot of work. One directed him to look
her in the eye so she could see if he was lying and she seemed to
have nailed it. The usual teasing about him never getting serious
about anyone. One caressed his thigh under the table.
Los
Cabos: Sofia told Ricardo that it wasn't in her current plans to
get involved with anyone. He told her that it's inevitable and it
usually isn't planned. [He obviously can't see into her brain.]
Mexico
City: Nicolás got home to find a red tie hanging on the door
knob. He let it there, chuckling, and went back out.
Nancy
crossed two lines when she put on one of Carlos' shirts and picked up
the photo of Alejandra that was on one of the nightstands. She asked
him whether he shouldn't put it away and move on. He demanded she
hand it to him. She complied and he put it back. She apologized,
then slithered back onto the bed. He said he doesn't intrude into
her life and shoved her away when she tried to kiss him. He
then picked up the photo of Alejandra.
The
next morning the new furniture was delivered to Juan's house. A
whole truckload.
Los
Cabos: Sofia went for a walk on the beach and called home.
Camila was just waking up, Marcela handed her the phone saying “It's
Sofia, your daughter.” Camila sounded alright when Sofia spoke
briefly to her. However, after the call she asked Marcela where
Sofia was.
Mexico
City: Roberto came to on the couch. Nicolás handed him an Alka
Seltzer and said “For a moment I thought you would be at Victoria's
place.” Roberto said he had hoped for that but it was as he had
said before. Victoria wasn't interested in him. Since there was no
point in being good, he's back to his old tricks. They had a
conversation about honesty. Nicolás finally told his son that he
was afraid of his own feelings, just as his mother had once been.
