MIRADA #79 THE DEVIL SHOWS UP AT THE HOSPITAL

part 1

Lots of different storylines were woven together in this episode. But the major one, concerning don Luis and Toribio, indicates what we have long suspected--Luis is the one who shot poor Toribio in the head and changed him from a healthy young ranch hand into a blithering, frightened idiot. Looks like at least one of Luis' past sins is now coming back to haunt him.

But that's not how the episode begins. We see Margarito stumbling and falling because of knee pain. Doña Chole rescues him and he swears her to secrecy.

Vanessa is chatting with Prudencia, after her painful conversation with Lino. Short version of married life is her husband's way of treating her is brusque and uncomfortable, but on the other hand, she can buy anything she wants. Mama Chucha arrives and horns in on the conversation. Prudencia suggests that with all her free time, perhaps Susanita could help out with the foundation. Nothing doing. Schedule is too complicated (in other words she never knows when Luis is going to want to romp and stomp in the bedroom). They discuss the apartment Chooch is occupying. Angustias feigns amazement. "I would have thought with such a rich son-in-law, you'd be living in a palace, Susana." -Goodness no, I'd never think of living off my son-in-law [vivir a costillas de mi yerno] But I'm surprised at your comment. This tea is cold. Fetch me more.

The conversation turns to Lucrecia and Vane says they're good friends. -Well, you certainly look better with him that that doctora" sniffs Mom. For one thing, she's older than he is. Pru leaves the room for a phone call and then Chooch gets down to business. I NEED MONEY. PERSUADE ED TO GIVE ME SOME! Vane says she can't, he won't fork over a dime. -Well then persuade him to give you some jewelry. You can always hock it for cash. -And what do I say when he wants to know where it is? -Say you were robbed! Whew. Chooch the Mooch is relentless. Eye on the ball and pedal to the metal.

Luis, cruising the halls of the hospital, chortles to Alberto about how cute the baby is and how much he's looking forward to the baptism. Beto is feeling miffed and very left out. Dad brushes off his anger [enchilado]. Marina's moving ahead with her life and so are you. You've got a great girlfriend. Absolutely darling. Bring her to the house again.

Somehow Ramona has arrived at Doc Mask's apartment in town. And she's got lots of ideas on how he should spend the money from the house sale. Like move into a larger apartment in a nicer neighborhood. He's not interested. He wants her to come up with a disguise and then get a job in the hospital so she can shadow Marina's every move. She's horrified that he's still pursuing his obsession, but he makes it clear that she can either do what he wants or vamoose. Well you know where this is going.

The other thread: the upcoming gala evening at the hospital is causing problems for Marina. Our little Cinderella doesn't have the money for a ball gown. Yola and later Prudencia will collaborate to provide her one. And maybe Doña Encarnación will get in on the act. They all want their little gal to dazzle the assembled and especially director Muñoz.. And no doubt she will.

MIRADA #79 THE DEVIL SHOWS UP AT THE HOSPITAL

Part 2

Toribio and Lucrecia's therapy session is getting a bit fraught. She's pushing the expensive pill on him. He's refusing to take it. He sleeps a lot, even though he's now having dreams with words. Like "the devil" and "shot me" but the Devil can't find me here in the city. I'm safe now.

Elsewhere, Luis is still cruising the halls, this time chatting with old friend Muñoz about what a great guy Beto is. And great doctor. "Hijo de tigre, hijo de tigre" exults Luis...in other words, Beto takes after his fab Dad. As if!

When Luis runs into Toribio leaving Lu's office, Tor goes berserk. The devil! the devil! You want to kill me! Total meltdown. Beto comes running. Gets him a stretcher [camilla], carts him off to the emergency room, and calls Marina to come help. Luis has vanished, only to reappear in Lucrecia's office trying to ascertain just what she may have found out in the therapy sessions. Clearly he's starting to worry that she, or somebody, might find out he's "el diablo" in question. And somewhere along the way, he's decided her nickname is Trina. Clearly he's quite happy with her as a potential wife for Alberto. But Lu isn't giving out any info on the sessions. Ethical concerns you know. Luis nervously plays with some contraption on the desk and keeps circling around with questions. To no avail.

Vanessa and Mom are still sparring over Mom's money request. Too bad, Mom, but you married me off to a vulgar tightwad who makes me sick. Mom is sympathetic. Too bad he's so young, you'll have to wait a long time for widowhood. Sweet! Angustias asks Vanessa to stay for dinner, but she'll have to get permission from Big Ed. He loves to control my life, she adds.

MIRADA #79 THE DEVIL SHOWS UP AT THE HOSPITAL

Part 3

Luis is still nervously trying to find out more. Did he say anything about me? Because I hardly knew him. He worked for my father on the ranch. But I'd like to pay your fees for his treatment. -No need. I'm doing it for free. Well, there goes that wedge.

Back in the emergency room, Toribio is still frantic and wants to get out of the hospital as soon as possible, before the Devil comes back. Marina will take him home. But wonders why Beto keeps butting in on his treatment. "I care about him. He's a part of you." answers Alberto. Marina looks touched. And sad. And still a little smitten.

Back with Doc Mask. Poor Ramona is dithering about managing to keep tabs on Marina in the hospital. "What if she recognizes me? Don't me ridiculous! She's never seen you! Ramona does looks rather fetching in her new wig. It's a definite improvement on her own hair. "How do I look?" she asks hopefully. Who cares! Just go there and get a job. Anything!

Nett, and anyone else...this requires strapping on your telenovela beanie. True, Marina has never SEEN Ramona. But she KNOWS her voice. Better than anybody. And voices can't be easily changed the way that hair and clothing can. But no matter. Just go with the flow and float like a pear in red jello.

Back in the vecindad, Erasmo is still hanging around, even though he hasn't found work. Yola is encouraging him to return to the ranch but he's not interested. Erick calls. He's having trouble finding work as well. And he's too ritzy to work as a waiter. His one skill though is making drinks and cocktails. Looks like he'll end up working at Lino's place. Small world and it's getting smaller. Or you might say the Amoeba Clan is growing.

MIRADA #79 THE DEVIL SHOWS UP AT THE HOSPITAL

Part 4

Lucrecia and Beto are chatting and she wants to know (she ALWAYS WANTS TO KNOW) why he called Marina. Does it bother you? No, no. Lu switches gears and adds that she didn't know Toribio worked for his grandfather. Beto fills in the history. There were a lot of hunters in the area and no one knows where the stray bullet came from. His grandfather gave Toribio a very generous cash settlement "And what happened to that money? interjects Lucrecia. Beto doesn't know that either. Lucrecia keeps digging. Strange that your dad, who doesn't really know Toribio, was so interested in his treatment and willing to pay for it. Well, my dad is very generous. He's also paying for Margarito's care in the hospital. See a pattern here? I think Dr. Lu does.

Elsewhere, the ladies (Prudencia, Angustias and Doña Encarnació)...all in their own separate spheres, are dreaming of outfitting Marina in something spectacular that will be sure to dazzle all the hospital personnel and their wives. I'm really looking forward to what they come up with. Not sure though that it can match the showstopper of a red dress that Prudencia wore to Vanessa's wedding.

And the Amoeba Clan now has Toribio safely at home, while they collectively paint blue party favors for the baptismal party. Damiana is kvetching about Beto's involvement in the case (Is he the ONLY doctor in the hospital!?) and the rest are musing about who or what The Devil could actually be...a person, an animal, a "nahual"[a human being who has the power to shape shift]

More mysteries to solve. But not just yet.

MIRADA #79 THE DEVIL SHOWS UP AT THE HOSPITAL

Part 5

Devil Luis has arrived home, hitting the liquor bottle and chatting with his sainted wife. She's telling him that Vane was going to come to dinner but her husband wanted her elsewhere.

He's chuffed. What a great little wife! So OBEDIENT and catering to her husband's wishes! Eye roll from Prudencia.

Well, she seems to be regretting her marriage, adds Pru. -Ah well, it's over and done with, sniffs Luis. But, by the way, your daughter invited me today to the Baptism. But not the party afterwards. Evidently her "tribe" doesn't like me. - Well, Margarito does. And furthermore he respects you. -Yeah, as long as I keep paying for him" replies Luis.

And he circles back to the subject of Toribio. You know him better than I do Pru. Any idea what those nightmares would be about?

Well, it's nice to see our Large and In Charge Luis beginning to squirm a little bit. More of that please, waiter.

Elsewhere, faithful little Ramona is in the hospital employment office seeking work. Qualifications? Lots of experience with doctors.

Skills? Computer? Nope. But I kept his office very clean. Ah, you're interested in "intendencia" [administration] Wha? No, But I'll do cleaning. If you've got a job there I'll take it! Human Resources lady looks temporarily flummoxed but then signs her up. Okay. Ramona is on board and ready to spy on Marina. (Sigh. the Bad Guys are still winning)

Well, it wouldn't be a Mirada episode without some antler-bashing between Bazán and Beto. The former wants the latter to keep away from his office and Marina. After all, he told Beto once that if he still loved his wife, he would step aside. But Beto stayed mute. So now it's HIS turn to step aside. Butt out buster!

We end with a sad little scene with our Hothouse Orchid Vanessa. She's lounging on the bed, but not for romance's sake. She's tired and can't face going out to dinner with Big Ed and some more clients. For heaven's sake, all you talk about is business! she whines.

Big Ed is adamant. You have to go. You're there for looks and decoration. Like a floral centerpiece. Vane looks insulted. But you know, he's not wrong. Aside from decor, she really doesn't have much to add to the equation. Things get heated. And loud. But Mama Big Rigs arrives at that moment and things calm down. Looks like our Vane will be a centerpiece tonight.

And there we end. Just another day of turmoil, guilty consciences and twisted love affairs in the Only Hospital in Mexico City. Chime in now Patio. Add your thoughts to this turgid stew of a story.

MIRADA

Thank you, Judy, for your recap. And our story just keeps chugging along.

Ramona really looks different in that wig, glasses, and ... lipstick. I would not have recognized her ... until she opened her mouth. Marina will know that voice!!!

Seemed that Lucreepy told Don Louse more than she should have about Toribio, because now Louse knows what's up.
I'm wondering if Louse shot Toribio and daddy paid to hush it up.
And if it was Luis who shot him, what was the reason?

Oh, ¡ya basta! with the antler bashing, boys. Beto needs to fish or cut bait. Punto.

Vanessa really is a spoiled princess, no? It would be so satisfying to ship her to Beverly Hills and have Granny Clampett put her to work scrubbing the floors.

I'm looking forward to seeing Marina's dress,

FLOR
Ep 63: Part 1 GRAN FINAL: The Ultimate Gift

Previously: With tears in his eyes, Teo continues to watch as Flor cries and pleads with him to wake up; she loves him and if he needs a reason to return then he should think of al that they have built up together…everything can die, but what they have done together, nothing will ever destroy it. Flor asks him not to leave; he is her world.

Later, Teo tells Val that he is right; he doesn’t want to die. Teo wants to be with Flor to love and take care of her; he wants to be with Diego and watch him grow up; and he wants to be with his father. Teo thanks Val for making him realize…Flor loves him! As Teo hugs Val, they both hear Carlota call out to Teo and tell him that they must leave. Both Val and Teo are transported to the bridge. When Val tells her that Teo has decided to stay and Teo adds that he can’t abandon his family, Carlota tells Teo that she is sorry, but he will have to go…his name is on the list; there are 44 registered on the list, so 44 souls must arrive. Val takes a deep breath and tells Carlota to take him; Teo and Flor deserve a destiny together, so he will go in Teo’s place. When Carlota reminds Val that he has always insisted that he wanted to stay, Val explains that he now understands that it is not a place for him anymore; Flor and Teo were made for each other and he is in the way. Carlota congratulates Val for finally figuring out what his mission is; he set aside his selfishness and is sacrificing himself for love…so they need to get going. After Carlota turns and walks away, Teo doesn’t know what to say to Val other than thank you; he can’t imagine how difficult this is for Val. After they hug, Val remarks that Teo need not thank him; he loves Flor who is the best woman he could imagine; he asks Teo to take good care of her and to take care of his son. After Val tells Teo that he loves him and wishes him happiness, Teo walks to the end of the bridge as Val looks at Carlota who is walking in the opposite direction toward a bright white light.

At the hospital. Flor cries as she reaches for Teo’s hand, When Teo’s hand grabs hers, Flor gasps and yells out for the doctor. At the bridge, Carlota returns looking for Val. Flor goes to the lobby and tells everyone that Teo is alive; so Rose quickly calls Chile who relays the message to everyone else.

Chile enters Marga’s house with Xochitl and Diego. After they walk away, Chile sees the lights flicker and knows that Val is there. Val tells him he doesn’t have much time; he just came to say good-bye because he is leaving…this time forever. Val explains, “I love you very much, you are my brother since we were little.” After Chile tells Val that he loves him too, Val asks him for a favor—he needs Chile to take care of Diego. Val knows that Flor and Teo will be with Diego, but he wants Chile to keep tabs on him. Chile assures Val that he will always be Diego’s Uncle Chile; he will teach him how to climb trees and rob his first bank without getting caught. Val laughs then tells Chile that he wants him to teach Diego to be like him (Chile), a noble guy and a good person. Val asks for Diego and disappears; so Chile shouts out to him to at least give him a hug. Val returns and calls out to Chile who turns around and sees him with a big smile, Chile runs to him and gives him a tight hug as he cries, “ I can see you!” as he touches Val’s face and strokes his hair. Both Val and Chile cry as they tell each other how sorry they each are for the problems they caused each other.

FLOR
Ep 63: Part 2 GRAN FINAL: The Ultimate Gift

Chile hugs Val once more as he sobs (as tears roll down my own face), but Val disappears and goes to see Diego who is brushing his teeth. Val admires what a good looking kid he is and tells him not to worry because Teo and Flor will take care of him and give him lots of love...they will make him a great man. Val wishes he could have been a father to Diego; he wishes he could hug him and give him a kiss, but he knows Diego would get scared…and this is probably not a time to be thinking about his father; maybe it’s good that he now sees Teo as his father. Val cries softly as he tells Diego that he will always look after him. After Val tells Diego that he loves him, he goes back to talk to Chile, but Carlota is there waiting for him. Val explains that he just needed a bit of time; and he can’t leave yet because he has one last thing to do; he needs to talk to Flor one last time. Afterwards, Val will go with Carlota to wherever she wants to take him.

At the hospital, the doctor tells Flor and everyone else that Teo is now out of danger; he still has quite a ways to go to recover, but his prognosis is very good. When Oscar asks the doctor to explain how Teo was able to be wake up, the doctor responds that he wouldn’t know who to ask…despite all the medical advances and technology, the body still surprises them. As Flor hugs everyone, she sees Val who motions her to go talk to him. Once alone, Flor tells Val that they say it was a miracle, but Flor knows it was Val. Val nods; so Flor thanks him. Val informs Flor that he must leave and this time it is forever…he won’t bother her anymore. Val wants Flor to know that he regrets everything he did; he just wanted her love, but he was wrong since she deserves so much more than a ghost…and he did everything wrong. Flor cries as she tells him that he did everything right; she fell in love with him and he made her very happy; she will always love him. Val thinks she will forget him, but Flor assures him that she will never forget him or stop loving him. After Val tells her that he knows Teo will make her happy and that they will see each other again “up above,” he fades off forever and goes to meet Carlota at the bridge. Val is expecting at least mariachis, but Carlota tells him that not even the birds will sing. After she praises him for doing the right thing, Val walks to the end of the bridge toward the bright light.

At the hospital, Teo wakes up and calls out to Flor. She goes to him and tells him that he is very weak, but he will recover…she will be there with him if he so wishes. When Teo tells her that he saw Val, she apologizes for not telling him sooner. As Flor sits and holds his hand gently, Teo tells her that he was with Val, but he returned because she also is his world. Flor assures him that everything she said was true; if they both forgive each other, they can have a wonderful life. Teo agrees; so Flor kisses him gently.

At Marga’s house, Marga tells Chile (whose hair looks like he put his finger in a socket) that he should go back to bed, but Chile assures her that he will be fine. They talk about Teo’s miraculous recovery and second chances. Chile was affected by Teo’s ordeal, but is more affected by Val’s death since they had a whole life of adventures planned. Chile wasn’t too keen on leading a clean, simple life, but it is something he needs to do. When Marga asks what he will do, Chile replies that the first thing is to take a bath every day, brush his teeth, change his diet so he won’t fart so much, and remove his tattoo. Marga agrees to the bathing and brushing of teeth, but if he changes anything else, he won’t be Chile anymore…he’d just be “Porfirio.” Chile thinks “Don Profirio” sounds pretty good, but when Marga tells him that he won’t be the man she fell in love with, Chile agrees and, after Marga slowy gets closer, they kiss passionately.

FLOR
Ep 63: Part 3 GRAN FINAL: The Ultimate Gift

Mariana tells Aure that this miracle will bring change for Teo and Flor…but it will also affect them. Aure does wish that they could have a second chance also. When he starts to leave, Mariana stops him and lets him know that he is the love of her life. They kiss and Aure tells her that he loves her with all his heart.

Flor gives Rose an iPad since she is now a successful businessman. Rose is very surprised since Flor has been so busy with all her other problems. She hugs and thanks Flor.

Flor returns to the hospital to find Teo worried about Diego and the adoption. Flor assures him that his father is working on it and they will be taking care of Diego for now. After she explains how Rosa T has her doubts after all that happened, Teo wonders what will happen with Diego.

Rose and Tere watch as the people gather and wait for autographs from the CKLASS star. As they watch, they listen to Celeste’s broadcast. Celeste comments that she is very happy to celebrate life…and she has a special guest, Sami, who is there to invite everyone to her conference titled, “Women Who Love Themselves.” When Celeste remarks that it will inspire so many women, Sami hopes to also inspire Celeste to go out in the town as herself and put aside her fears. Teo listens as his father replies that she has good reason to go out since she is so happy; especially for her son who is an example of courage and faith.

In town, Rose is welcoming the town to her presentation and introducing their guest of honor who is representing CKLASS—CLAUDIA MARTĺN!! Rose continues that she and Tere are very proud to announce how successful they have been in town…so much so that they have expanded to nearby towns. As she talks, Ati yells out to her; so Tere takes over with the autograph session. Meanwhile, Ati tells Rose that he came to see the most attractive businesswoman in town and he is going to fight for her.

Aure and Mariana sit with Xochitl as Aure tells her that her mother is giving him a second chance. Xochitl squeals with glee and hugs both of them. Elpi, who is there, congratulates the reconciled couple. Aure then suggests to Elpi to pursue his true vocation and rescind his request to be dismissed. Elpi hugs Aure as he agrees and everyone toasts to a happier time.

Diego goes to see Teo at the hospital accompanied by Oscar who invited Rosa T because the custody is still pending. After Diego tells Teo that they want to take him to an orphanage and asks him not to allow it, Rosa T asks Oscar to take Diego outside so that she can talk to Flor and Teo. Rosa is rethinking giving them custody; so Flor explains that things are better. Rosa T, however, is concerned that Diego might feel rejected because he is the son of Flor’s first husband. Teo interjects that they are already acting as parents to Diego and they want him to be their son…they are the perfect family for Diego. Rosa T agrees and asks them to sign the documents.

Ten Months Later—

Diego places a plate of food among others in front of Val’s picture which is at a table of many decorated for a celebration. Diego explains to Flor that his Uncle Chile told him that it was his father’s favorite botana, but Flor wonders if maybe it’s actually Chile’s favorite. Teo, who has completely recovered, is with them and assures Flor that it was Val’s favorite. As they talk, Flor gets a call from the prison in Wisconsin. Elsa is calling to tell her that she is more at ease now that she received the letter confirming that Diego would be living with them. After Flor thanks her for trusting them, Elsa talks to Diego and they chat.

FLOR
Ep 63: Part 4 GRAN FINAL: The Ultimate Gift

Sami and Mica are with Celeste who is having doubts about going to the celebration. Sami assures her that the town has changed and is more understanding now…Celeste needs to be a free woman. Celeste agrees and tells them that she will go. As they walk out into the town, individuals approach her and give her roses. Jovita approaches and tears into Celeste telling her that she does not belong in that town; so Sami steps up and tells Jovita that the one who doesn’t belong there is Jovita…or other people who are ignorant and mean. Mica also speaks up and tells Jovita that no one is on her side anymore; because of people like her, the world is full of hate. As the crowd yells at Jovita to leave, Celeste calms them down and tells them to leave Jovita alone…what they need to do is be peaceful and create beautiful things. As the people cheer Celeste, Jovita takes her sour face and slowly walks away.

Elsewhere, Lola, Tito and Lalo who is holding his baby boy, talk to Gris on Facetime. Gris is about to go on stage. Flor approaches and shows Gris a small billboard promoting her show. Gris congratulates Flor on her trip to New York where Flor’s dance students will perform.

Flor and Teo show Diego the documents that show that they are now officially Diego’s parents. Teo adds that they will always be a family; and when his mother returns, she will also be part of their family. Diego squeals with joy and they have a group hug. After Flor reminds them that they have to go or they will be late to the celebration, Teo thinks it’s odd that they would have a wedding on All Saint’s Day. Flor responds that being that it’s her mother, it’s not odd at all.

Later—

Elpi accompanies the happy couple out of the church. They are dressed in their costumes with makeup “a la Catrina” (the popular makeup used in Mexico to celebrate All Saint’s Day). Marga is very proud of her new tattoo, a red chili pepper; and Chile tells her that she is now truly “de Habanero.” As they walk out, friends and family cheer and throw colorful confetti. Afterwards they all get together and take a selfie.

At the reception, Chile calls everyone’s attention because he wants to say a few words. The reason why Marga and he decided to marry on this day is because tradition has it that the dead come to visit them on that day; and he wanted to invite his best friend, Val, wherever he is, to have a good time. After everyone claps, Flor stands up to say a few words too. She wants to tell her mother that she is very happy because she is the most wonderful bride…and to welcome Chile to the family though he has been pushing his way in for a while. She also announces that Diego is now their son.

FLOR
Ep 63: Part 5 GRAN FINAL: The Ultimate Gift

After Marga invites everyone to start the celebration, Itza talks to herself (us) and comments that life is a box full of (chocolates?)…noooo, full of surprises! She reads a card for each of her friends/family:

For Chile and Marga- life will be full of crazy times and love;
There are talents that run the blood and the baby will be a great dancer…and Lalo, the best father;
There are those for whom the world is too small…and Rose will travel the world;
And just like there are those who will travel the world, there are those who will change it (Elpi and Celeste) with love, respect and intuition.
There is love that isn’t perfect, but it is strong; Aure and Mariana will always be there for each other;
Samantha…the good thing about knowing people like Samantha is that it reminds us to love ourselves…being amongst women, we always help each other.
For Flor and Teo, Itza doesn’t need a card; she is sure that their love will live forever.

When Lola and Tito come and sit with Itza, they ask what the cards are telling her, so she tells them that she will be a great actress. Afterwards they enjoy some cake.

At another table, Diego is frustrated because no one at school understands how his uncle can be marrying his grandmother. Teo tells him that love comes in many forma and colors; and the good thing is that it comes when you least expect it. Teo then has an idea...he wants to sneak out so that they can go have something to drink. They end up by the river, and as they look out at the water hand in hand, Flor notices that Diego has his free hand extended and asks why. Diego replies that he is holding his guardian angel’s hand…as Val holds his hand and motions at him to “shhhh.”

MIRADA

Thanks, JudyB, another great recap!

Rats! I'm getting nervous again. Beto is definitely trying to make time with our little daffodil.

Vanesa, our hothouse orchid, turned rose with thorns for a while today. I'm not sure what to make of her interaction with Big Ed. She was quite feisty, he was quite complimentary. She was the most beautiful of flowers or whatever he said. But she took offense at his first suggestion that she was like a beautiful table decoration. In any event, they are fighting a bit, which is not necessarily bad, but if he hits her then everything changes. If not, then over the next couple of weeks we will see if this marriage could possibly work.

So Vanesita has now been honest with Angsty, she is talking back and even defending herself with Chucha, and now is at least beginning to stand up to Big Ed. More character development?

I'm still a bit ticked with Lino, but what's done is done.

I, too, am looking forward to seeing Marina in an elegant dress, but please let it be a good looking dress, not something that's "fashionable" or whatever. Not one of those dresses only women could love.

:-)

MIRADA

Thanks, JudyB! I watch the episodes, but your recaps are so much more entertaining.

Doris, "Ramona really looks different in that wig, glasses, and ... lipstick." I barely recognized her!! Wow what a difference, but that voice..mmmm, gave her completely away. And absolutely loved this: "Vanessa really is a spoiled princess, no? It would be so satisfying to ship her to Beverly Hills and have Granny Clampett put her to work scrubbing the floors." I hadn't thought of Granny Clampett in such a long time, but you are SO right. Granny would definitely put Vanessa in her place. LOL thanks for the laugh.

Don Louse did shoot Toribio. It was while they were duck hunting and it was an accident. I think Tori keeps referring to the shooter as the devil because, when young Luis saw what he did, he freaked out and ran off yelling that the devil had done it. They had only said that Luis's father had paid for Tori's medical costs, but today they made it sound like Tori got some additional money; so that does sound like a payoff to me.

So who will get a dress to Marina first? Encarnacion or Prudencia? I'm anxiously waiting to see it too!

FLOR

Rgv Chickie, Congratulations on a job more than well done!

I'm sorry I elected to not watch this TN, but it just didn't look that interesting (to me) at first, and I struggle with even one TN at a time.

I do admire your dedication, and I sometimes read your recaps and enjoyed them.

Take a bow and relax a bit now.

:-)

FLOR

There were indeed gifts here but your ultimate gift to us Rgv Chick was this beautiful, breath taking recap. Your words truly must have made the angels sing.

“With tears in his eyes, Teo continues to watch as Flor cries and pleads with him to wake up; she loves him and if he needs a reason to return then he should think of al that they have built up together…everything can die, but what they have done together, nothing will ever destroy it. Flor asks him not to leave; he is her world” is proof positive that while there were many different love stories engendered and entangled, this blossomed into what might closely resemble real, true love.

“Both Val and Chile cry as they tell each other how sorry they each are for the problems they caused each other”, I picture the two lifelong friends, united by the unbreakable bond they forged in childhood, unbearably sad as they left each other.

“When Oscar asks the doctor to explain how Teo was able to be wake up, the doctor responds that he wouldn’t know who to ask…despite all the medical advances and technology, the body still surprises them”. Val? Yes. God? Yes.

And while there was joy and sadness, I loved that you interspersed gems like “Chile (whose hair looks like he put his finger in a socket)”, reminding us that humor is the best medicine. “Diego explains to Flor that his Uncle Chile told him that it was his father’s favorite botana, but Flor wonders if maybe it’s actually Chile’s favorite”. Ahhh, the wisdom of children. And I just loved “Marga is very proud of her new tattoo, a red chili pepper”. Whoever would have thunk that??

“Diego replies that he is holding his guardian angel’s hand…as Val holds his hand and motions at him to “shhhh.” What a lovely ending.

Rgv Chick, your talent, insight and masterful writing are just extraordinary. We were blessed to have you leading us during this marvelous journey. Thank you - I am so very grateful.

Diana

FLOR

Ay yi yi, Rgv Chick, I second Andy's motion...Take a bow and relax a bit now. You've been doing Herculean labors on CarayCaray for I don't know how long now! As a very intermittent watcher, I have to say I loved everything about le gran final. All the characters and the relationships were "redeemed". And Marg and Chile's wedding get-ups were fantastic. What a great idea! As was Roberto Blandón's coming out bravely to the whole town, but being tolerant of his narrow-minded critic rather than excoriating her. Altogether a real festival of love and peace. Your title was perfect as always. A lovely compliment to a lovely final episode.

I know you won't really put your feet up. First you have to feed and take care of the animals. And then get ready to do another recap of la Reina soy yo. But maybe you can get to bed a wee bit earlier tonight. I sure do hope so, amiga mia.

A gazillion thanks for all you do.

MIRADA

Doris, great suggestion. Yes, Granny Clampett needs to take our wilted Vanessa in hand and show her what real work is. Maybe she could tutor Chucha in a little honest labor while she's at it. As Rgv Chick noted, the shooting seemed to be an accident. The reaction to it though was typical of Luis' abiding character flaw. He cannot take responsibility for his actions and cannot hold himself accountable for his bad decisions. Nor can he honestly ask forgiveness when his wrongs come to light. He's got a long long road to redemption. If it's even possible.

Andy old son, are you trying to rile the womenfolk tonight? What's all this about "fashionable and only what a woman could like?" as opposed to beautiful. Well, no fears. I think the actress Claudia Martin, could probably look lovely in a burlap sack. But I'm eager to see what they choose.

There was a poignant moment when she thought she might wear the light blue dress she wore the night she danced with Beto and fell madly in love. Cranky Damiana quashed that idea, saying that she needed to bury those sweet memories and just move on with Plan B--Ricardo. Lord, that Damiana annoys me! Aside from hogging two middle-aged galans, she wants to direct every decision Marina makes. A real metiche in my opinion.

Rgv Chick, thanks for such a nice comment...you always find ways to make each commenter and recapper feel profoundly appreciated. You are a gift in so many ways.

MIRADA

Judy, I wanted a smile before bedtime and your recap was just what the doctor (definitely not the devil :) ) ordered.

"Chooch the Mooch is relentless. Eye on the ball and pedal to the metal", "Too bad he's so young, you'll have to wait a long time for widowhood. Sweet!" and of course "antler-bashing" were excellent!

I loved the honest truth "You're there for looks and decoration. Like a floral centerpiece. Vane looks insulted. But you know, he's not wrong. Aside from decor, she really doesn't have much to add to the equation". And there you have it...

After many years, I am familiar with your unparalleled vocabulary yet continue to be awed by your ability to use words one knows but just doesn't seem to have the occasion to use - "turgid" as in "turgid stew of a story". Just wonderful.

Gracias amiga.

And I join you and andy in thanking Rgv Chick for all of her work here.

JudyB, Andy old son, are you trying to rile the womenfolk tonight? What's all this about "fashionable and only what a woman could like?" as opposed to beautiful. Well, no fears. I think the actress Claudia Martin, could probably look lovely in a burlap sack. But I'm eager to see what they choose.

Uh, oh. I'm in trouble now :-)

Or maybe not. You probably know what I'm talking about, what I don't want to see: a dress that is all about itself, being a "new thing" or different, something you might see on a runway worn by an anorexic zombie fashion model, or something very different than that but equally unappealing.

It doesn't have to be like Prudy's little red dress, or something Jessica Rabbit might wear, but hopefully it will be something with a little sex appeal. Not too much, I suppose. We want to dazzle Doc Muñoz, not scandalize him.

I, too, am eager to see what they choose, though we probably won't be seeing until next week.

"MIRADA":

Andy: Lino should just move on & forget about Vanessa. However, I'm getting the feeling he might be there to pick up the pieces once she gets her BIGLY anvil from Psycho Eddie.

RGV Chick: Body Count increased again ?

MIRADA

Ah Diana, thanks. You are a reader with kind eyes. But I appreciate it and just wish that you could also be watching this with us. It's a rather charming story and some of the actors are terrific.

Andy, noooo, you're not in trouble and we DO know what you mean. Sometimes when I see the horrendous outfits on various Univision talent or gossip show hosts, I really cringe. It may be "fashionable" but it's also dreadfully unbecoming.

Steve...we'll have to wait and see if Lino and Vanessa end up together. Big Ed qualifies as "the inconvenient spouse", so the only way that they could, would be if he met his Maker earlier than expected. Not sure the Maker is ready for that package!

MIRADA

Good morning all!

"I think the actress Claudia Martin, could probably look lovely in a burlap sack". Ahhh, andy. I totally agree with Judy - you are in no trouble. You speak the truth. In Jersey we used to say someone could wear a paper bag over their head and look great, a different twist on a similar sentiment :)

Diana

MIRADA

Andy, I totally get it. Sometimes, we women dress to impress other women with our fashion choices. Sometimes, we dress to make the men turn their heads. I have a feeling Marina's dress will turn the mens' heads and make the women jealous.

Diana and JudyB, thank you so much for joining me throughout this show. Diana your perseverance and support in keeping up despite not being able to watch the show speaks volumes of your loyalty and dedication. JudyB, I know I can always count on you to be just as supportive....you two are truly beautiful birds of a feather...and soul sisters!

I was very satisfied with the ending too...everything just fell into place so smoothly... I bow to the writers and actors who did a tremendous job in bringing us such a wonderful story.

Andy, thank you so much for your kind words and support. I really appreciated your comments despite the fact that you weren't watching the show or keeping up with it.

I am the one who is most blessed to have found such wonderful friends here at Caray. You all are like a family to me...you are my adrenaline and I truly enjoy your company and support. It may be through virtual means, but it is very real...and this is meant for EVERYONE, not just those on this patio.

MIRADA #80 DON LUIS IS THE DEVIL!

Part 1

Well, the truth is out. Toribio has said it loud and clear. Don Luis is the Devil! And as so often happens, nobody is ready to believe the truth. Well, maybe with the exception of Zack. He suspects that Margarito knows something about don Luis, and that's why his boss is so protective of him. And he's very angry indeed that Luis won't let him move into Margarito's home. But that pivotal declaration comes later in the episode. We start out with our hapless couple of adoring Ramona and obsessive DocMask.

A be-wigged Ramona is telling DocMask about her new job and he's giving her further instructions. You must get into Bazan's area so you can monitor Marina. Why Bazan? I'm not worried about Ocaranza. He's completely lost his chance with her. But Marina is my reason for living so I don't want her with that Ricardo. My psychiatrist is going to cure me so I can win her heart. -What are you sick with? -NOTHING!!!

Beto is still smarting from the antler-bashing with Ricardo and is so disturbed, he's even brusque and irritable with Creepy Lucrecia. She tries to pin down why but he waves her off. Has to turn in a report for her dad. No, he can't delay it. Doesn't want to take advantage of the fact that his daughter is his girlfriend etc. (In other words, beat it Lu. And she does)

Toribio, meanwhile, continues to be in full-meltdown, shivering, feverish and querulous. They won't let him go to the baptism because he's in such a bad way. Plans are made to dose him with herbal teas and whatnot. Too bad. He could have caused such a ruckus at the church that maybe somebody would have really listened to him. Oh well.

Our fair flower Vanessa is in a pretty bad way also. Big Ed has dragged her out to another client meeting (although it looks like the same down-in-the-mouth three guys he was with before) and Hub is drinking heavily and forcing liquor down her mouth as well. After she reluctantly sits, one of them slides an arm around her and that's it. She's leaving! -No she's not! Shut up and put up! I'm your husband. So she makes an excuse to head to the bathroom and then slips out of the bar.

Her hearthrob Lino is in a compromising position himself. Enthusiastic hugs from Anita and more kisses but she's not hearing what she wants to. The most she can get out of him is that he's feeling peaceful and free of bad memories. But you never tell me you love me. Well, that's how I was brought up. She insists and finally gets a "te quiero" and some tender kisses.

But when the kisses heat up and become more passionate, he calls out Vanessa's name.
Oh no's.

MIRADA #80 DON LUIS IS THE DEVIL!

Part 2

In no time at all Anita is huddled with Mom Toolbelt, lamenting the fact that Lino still seems smitten with that wretched girl who hurt him so much. Mom is trying to buck her up with tea (always tea!), reassuring her that she's lovely, bright, adorable and just needs to hang in there and all will be well. Eventually.

Well, if Lino's song selection is any indication...no. He's singing another woeful dirge in the cafe.

Let's cheer ourselves up with a little happy Erasmo news. He's found a job at a local gym. As a trainer of young people in the art of boxing. Turns out his dad taught him how to fight and he was so good at it, he actually injured somebody in a tussle. So gave it up for a while. But he knows what he's doing and it's a good sport for young people. Takes training and discipline. And they're empowered once they learn self-defense.

Is this skill going to come in handy later? We shall see.

Well, Vanessa could certainly use his skills right now. Big Ed has arrived home roaring drunk and smarting with humiliation. His friends are laughing at him. His wife ditched him without a single word. There's yelling, hair-pulling, wife tossing and finally a full-out punch in the face. Fortunately Vanessa makes it to the bathroom, locks herself in, and proceeds to have another heavy breathing panic attack while Ed yells and pounds at the door. Whew. This party is getting rough.

MIRADA #80 DON LUIS IS THE DEVIL!

Part 3

While all this marital carnage is going on, Beto and Erick are having a little therapy talk themselves. Alberto is still steamed at the way Bazan is treating him. Erick is noting that Beto is about to screw up his one good chance at a stunning career. You're dating your bosses daughter. He has all kinds of contacts that could benefit your career. And you've screwed the pooch with Marina anyway. Don't do it again with Lucrecia.

This falls on deaf ears as does most advice.

Hysteria continues at the Boogie Nights house. Hilde, with her omnipresent hair rollers, is begging Vane to calm down and come out. No way. Vanessa wants them to call Alberto. She can't breathe and needs medical help. Big Ed busts in the door and Hilde tries her best to comfort wee Vane but only Alberto will do. Ed's in a lather, thinking she just wants to get back with her ex-fiancé but Mom prevails and calls the doc.

When Beto dutifully arrives, Hilde wants to hang around but he shoos her out and gets the straight story from Vane. She hates her husband. He's an obnoxious, crude drunk who pushes her around. Beto gives the company line of "Get therapy". No, get me out of here! I love Lino!

Equally adamant is Toribio who wants to go to the baptism. I'M NOT SICK. IT'S THE DEVIL'S FAULT I FEEL THIS WAY. LUIS OCARANZA IS THE DEVIL!

Could he say it any more clearly? And could they fail to listen any more completely? He has to stay home with Baldo. And listen to Shush, shush don Luis is not the Devil. That is all in your head Toribio. Yes! he shot me in the head and wanted to kill me.
Sigh.

Frail Vane makes some more impassioned pleas to be hospitalized and put under observation for a few days. Mom Hilde wants to think it over. And talk to her son.

MIRADA #80 DON LUIS IS THE DEVIL!

Part 4

Big Ed is slouched on the sofa complaining about his hysterical wife but Mom ain't havin' it. SIT UP AND LISTEN! Yes, your wife should obey you, but you should be spoiling her, meeting her needs and making her happy. -Well, it hurts me Mom that you're on her side. She assures him she just wants to help him make things better.

Beto has some ideas on that score as well. If you really love your wife, he says sternly, you'll let her stay in the hospital for a few days so that she can be thoroughly checked and monitored day and night. Her health is at risk and she needs constant supervision. Big Ed's still riled up and plenty suspicious of Beto. So much so that he starts to shove him around. "Control your son", Beto says coldly to Hilde. It's clear he knows who's really in charge in the household.

Back to Vane, who's still weeping and wailing. He's a Neanderthal! I can't stand him. Beto advises that she get close to her mother-in-law and enlist her help. She seems more reasonable, he adds. Ya think?

Big Ed wants to make it all better, but he wants to make it better at home. He'll quit drinking. He's cosset her and spoil her like he did before. And meanwhile, Mom's cooking up a little health remedy idea of her own.

More on that later. We get some other health news--this time on Margarito. Beto is on his way to hospital when he gets a call from Doc Robledo telling him what the further studies show. His face darkens. Ah, I was afraid so. Stay tuned. Doesn't sound good.

MIRADA #80 DON LUIS IS THE DEVIL!

Part 5

The day of the baptism has arrived! Don Luis has a car loaded with toys, although he has tactfully eliminated the knives, shields, swords, pistols and rifles of the last visit. We'll save those for a bit later when I really take him in hand, he chortles. Prudencia and Angustias trot along after him (he temporarily shuts the door in Angustias' face, whoops!) and they've already figured out that he's going to try and cadge an invitation to the vecindad fiesta as well.

Alright, I'm puddling up here. They're all outside the church and that wee babe is absolutely darling in a tiny white hat and suit. Just. To. Die. For. Luis can't contain himself. After some finger flutters and twitching around, he begs to hold the little tyke and when Marina relents he holds him up like a Grand Prize Trophy. Fortunately he then draws him in close and cuddles the tiny fella. But not without checking the length of his leg and concluding that he's going to be tall....LIKE HIS GRANDFATHER! (I sometimes wonder if Luis is ad-libbing his lines. He's having way too much fun with this villain role.) Ricardo and his Mom are also there, along with the Amoeba Clan and the Vecindad.

In the shadows, lurks Doc Mask who notes that Marina seems to have forgiven her father. So now he figures he has a chance with her for sure. Ugh.

Inside the church, a lovely, reverent ceremony with Lino lighting the candle symbolizing the light of Christ, and Yola holding the baby while the priest pours the holy water on his head three times. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Baby is startled, as they usually are, but doesn't start to howl. It's a very sweet scene in spite of Doc Sotero and even the Devil lurking around the fringes.

Not so sweet a scene at Boogie Nights. Big Ed, once again in his unfortunate ensemble of red silk robe and plaid boxers, is planning to skip work. Sure, because of your hangover, sneers Vanessa. No, I'm staying home so I can cover you with kisses and hugs my love! Nauseous eye-roll and cringe from our Vane.

Just then our be-rollered and be-ribboned Hilda bursts in with fabulous news. She's got an even better solution than hospitalization. A few luxurious days at the spa with massages, facials, mud baths, flowers etc. Just totally divine! Vanessa is on board when she thinks it's a solo trip. Once she learns Mama is planning to send BOTH of them...Second Honeymoon and all that, she's not happy. Neither is Big Ed actually. That spa stuff is just for ladies, Mom. Jeez!

Well, we leave this happy domestic scene for one last look at the lovely church and the assembled. Don Luis is smiling benignly, his hand resting on Prudencia's shoulder. The happy grandparents beaming at their firstborn grandchild. Everyone makes the sign of the cross. And there we end.

So Patio-- Are we hoping Luis does get to attend the party? And is called out by Toribio? Or do we want a peaceful gathering? And how about Alberto? Will he manage to show up? Will Lucrecia be spying on the festivities? We know that Doc Mask will. Lots of patio speculation possible.

MIRADA

Oh how I wanted to see the “ensemble of red silk robe and plaid boxers” Judy! My mind is in overdrive trying to process that image.:)

“A be-wigged Ramona”, “Mom Toolbelt” , “Boogie Nights house”, “He's a Neanderthal!” and “be-rollered and be-ribboned” were among many favorites.

Also loved “Mom ain't havin' it. SIT UP AND LISTEN! Yes, your wife should obey you, but you should be spoiling her, meeting her needs and making her happy”. So, not crazy about the “obey” part but the pampering sounds wonderful!

In reading this, I get the feeling you are realty enjoying yourself Judy. Written tongue in cheek with a dash of irreverence and your always clear and concise vision and perspective. I’ve enjoyed every recap you’ve written over the years, each unique yet always wise, witty, insightful and delightful. And, most of all, always with heart.

Thank you!

Hi all,I'm late to the patio.
Good recap JudyB. Or was it RGV
CHICK? I don't remember and I'm to lazy to scroll back up. But whoever done if, you done good.
Both of you are just amazing recappers.

I have to wonder if tori saw something he wasn't suppose to and lousey shot him, and then went running saying the devil did it? Either way he's a coward
And take no responsibility for his crime. A man's mental health has Been severely compromised, and it can't be reversed. Lousey is Scared but not scared enough for Me.

Beto the blind galan. Is he that really dumb? He ask why marina has not invited him to the baby christening? Really. You reject
Your son and run away from the love of your life, cuz you think
Little booboo isn't your kid cuz
You listened to a rapist who is also an Obsessed psychopath.Who
Will Tell you anything to keep you away from your wife. Jackass.
Wow that was exhausting to type.

I hope everybody's mouth drops open when marina walks in all
Beautiful and sexy. Especially lucreepy-criminal.

Poor vanesa. I really wish she would get tired of being used as
A punching bag for ma mooch and a pushing bag for big ed. I hope
She don't end up dead.

I enjoyed this recape whoever wrote it, thanks ladys

MIRADA AND SIDE BAR

I want to congratulate andy, Niecie and Judy for your wonderful side bar comments! I've thought it so many times but have been negligent in not noting it before.

What a fantastic group this is!

MIRADA

Muy bien, JudyB! A gold star recap once again...thank you for filling in the gaps since I had some interruptions. The prize gems are--
*Well, if Lino's song selection is any indication...no. He's singing another woeful dirge in the cafe.
*Hysteria continues at the Boogie Nights house.
*After some finger flutters and twitching around, he begs to hold the little tyke and when Marina relents he holds him up like a Grand Prize Trophy.

Big Ed needs to be Big DEAD...because he is certainly dead to me...no mercy, no redemption for this Neanderthal wife abuser. Can't say we didn't see it coming, but it happened quite quickly. Vanessa needs to get out NOW...she does not need anyone's permission. I'm sure she's preferring her mother to this other hell, but she needs to just disappear and not look back.

It didn't surprise me either that no one believed Tori. I'm on the fence about the Louse going to the baptism party. On the one hand, Tori will again identify him as the shooter, but on the other hand, Tori will probably freak out even more making him look unstable and unreliable.

More laters

Thanks Again, JudyB!

MIRADA

JudyB, thank you for this excellent recap. I was actually a bit saddened when I reached the end because I was enjoying it so much. Very much like an excellent novel that you hate to put down at night. Ah, well.

First, I agree with Rgv Chickie that Big Ed has to go. Our poor Vanesita is, as Doris said yesterday, "a spoiled princess". She really is, and despite being bullied and even hit by her mother she just isn't up to dealing with this abuse from him. And if all those PSAs have their facts straight this will be a pattern with Big Ed: abuse, apologize and promise not to do it again, abuse... and repeat, and repeat.

OK, little Baby Rafi was adorable at the christening, but I have to admit what I first thought on seeing him in his little white outfit was, "OMG, they dressed him up as a tiny Pillsbury Doughboy!"

But cute. Marina was also cute but I had to wonder, not so much where her nice outfit came from, but where had she kept it? That must be one packed closet in the House of Sardines!

Toribio has now actually named the Devil, and his name is Luis Ocaranza. Why does nobody pay attention? Because Don Louse has such a great reputation? Because everybody loves him and can't imagine he might do something wrong or hide it? Sheesh!

I'm a bit apprehensive about next week. I much prefer good, happy events in TNs, but there is a lot of potential here for bad occurrences. Vane/Lino/Anita, Margo's health, Don Louse and his plans for our little Doughboy, Marina/Beto/Ricky/Lucreepy/creepy Doc Mask, and more. Next week I may have to be careful to read the recap first and then FFWD through really icky stuff, or at least turn the sound down.

andy

JudyB, you my dear have a wonderful
Way of bringing out the fun in the mess that is in These poor schlubbs
Lives. I agree with you about Donnydoo
He is havin fun with this part. When
He held up booboo be was like Simba
Holdin up the "lion king, THIS KINGDOM
IS YOURS TO RULE". This jackass really actually thinks He's gonna steal his daughters child from her! He'll except
His grandson but not his daughter! What
A schmuck.

That would be a really good shindig if
Louseyboo managed to slither his way into the christening celebration, and
Toribo called him out. I hate that he
Isn't believed because his brain has been damaged because of satan's spawn.

Now if margarito is dying, he want die
Without tellin somebody what he Knows
About what happened to tori. If there
Is something that he knows. You said B's face went dark, I hope it's not C.
The pain started in his back. After the weekend we will see what the dark -ness was about on beto's face. Lately
That's all on beto's face.What a sorry
Galan he turned out to be. Very very disappointed in Him. Allhe does is just Whines "marina won't invite me to the Christening, marina won't talk to me in The halls, marina is dating bazan, wah Wah wah" Oh shutup. Rafi is more grown up than he is.

The freak in the mask is lurking at the church. That hairstyle Ramona has
Is from the 80s. She probly wore that to the discos, with the shoulder pads & leg warmers with that shiny lipstick
On. The wig don't help much. I wish he
And her would just go away.

Ok,happy weekend everybody.
Thank you JudyB. Girl you're golden.

I am reading comments from #79 and just had to chime in tho 80 isn’t up yet on UNI
Conversation about Marina’s dress and Andy’s concerns about a dress only a woman could love reminded me of a saying I have with my friends when we spot such a fashion choice “Somebody liiied to her!”
You all probably have seen the dress, but I will have to wait. No reading ahead of the recaps as then the episode seems to devolve into ffff!

MIRADA

Great recap, JudyB! I agree with Rgv Chick about Big Ed. This spa getaway may be a make or break for the unhappy couple...it’ll probably be a “break”. Vane needs to get away from him ASAP.

I really like the friendship between Beto and Vane. Neither is holding a grudge after the end of their relationship and they have remained good friends. Beto seems like a big brother to Vane other than his role as her doctor on speed dial lol

Luis definitely has something up his sleeve regarding his grandson but what could it be?

Seems likely the relationship between Beto and Lu could end soon. If they keep arguing about Beto’s mood on a particular day lol

"MIRADA":

Anita must have been like "WTH" when Lino said Vanessa's name while they were having sex.

Lino probably fantasized seeing Vanessa's face in his dream.

MIRADA

Wow. Once again the Patio is bubbling away with lots of insight and lots of humor. We do have a wonderful group in our family room.

Diana...I not only wish you could see Big Ed's puke-worth boudoir getup, I wish you could see the house! Doris described the decor beautifully as "a bad LSD trip". I'm really impressed with this production. To me the two most important qualities in a person are compassion and a sense of humor. For sure the team working on this telenovela has a sense of humor in spades. The physical comedy, the decor, the hilarious conversations between Ramona and DocUgly, don Luis' bumptious lovemaking, and some of Erik's blurted truths are Just So Funny. You noted my tongue in cheek, but I think the scriptwriters, producers and set designers also have tongue firmly in cheek and it's a delight.

Nina, Nina, Nina....How right you are. Vanessa has gone from being a punching bag for her mom to a punching bag for Big Ed. Similar to real life where abused children go on to relate as adults to even worse abusers. Our little Vanessita definitely needs rescuing, but so far Lino is not stepping up. Instead he's stepping out. And your relating Luis' move with the baby to SIMBA, THE KINGDOM IS YOURS TO RULE was inspired. Wish I'd thought of that. Wow. Just wow. Finally, ah the eighties. I fondly remember those shoulder pads (they made my hips look smaller) and the big hair and shiny lipstick. But I can't quite picture Ramona in a disco. Still, I love her clueless confrontations with DocMask. She knows he's a nut case and inadvertently reminds him of that at every moment.

MIRADA

Ah mi Andy...Just like I wish I'd thought of Simba, I wish I'd thought of Pillsbury Dough Boy. That was inspired. Now I can't imagine the little mite as anything else. No matter. He's adorable and so is Señor Pillsbury. As for where Marina is keeping her clothes, yes....where is anybody keeping anything! And yet we know there are many people all over this world living in such close and cramped quarters. Doubtfully with as much harmony as the Amoeba Clan. But I imagine clothes are just stacked in a laundry basket after a visit to the local laundromat. Wrinkles be damned! And reality be damned. Go with the flow.

Rgv Chick...Big Ed needs to be Big Dead.

Another perfect title for a recap Chickie. I may use it one of these days. And I'm as conflicted about don Luis attending the Baptism Fiesta as you are. Poor Toribio doesn't need any more terror in his life. He already seems so frail. And what's more, as you noted, nobody will believe him. Well, ONE person will believe him--and that's Luis. I wouldn't mind seeing his All World All The Time Confidence shaken a bit. So...conflicted. We shall see.

MIRADA

Mely, good to see you back. And happy that you are catching up on the episodes. Alas, On Demand seems to be very late in putting up the latest showings. Hopefully over the weekend you'll be on line with us and we can start enjoying the whole enchilada together.

TF...Excellent that you brought up the very healthy relationship between Beto and Vane (other than having Dr. Ocaranza on speed dial. LOL) Sometimes we need to keep the "good things" in the forefront of our mind, because things will surely deteriorate further before Happily After After comes for our characters. Andy doesn't like to see tragic occurrences (nor do I) but there are always some...in any telenovela. So we know they're coming. Shudder. But yes, healthy reconciliation when it comes to Vanessa and Beto. All good.

Steve...Are you watching this? Anita and Lino did not have sex. They were just kissing. But there's nothing more hurtful than someone calling out another's name at a passionate moment. I don't know if our incipient novios will be able to reconcile after this. Not hopeful at the moment.

Thanks everybody for these marvelous, supportive and interesting comments. You add so much to my enjoyment of this telenovela. As Rgv Chick noted, the friendships we form here are as important as the Spanish we're learning and the television experience that we're sharing. For this reason alone, I love the internet. One is always just a comment away from another wonderful connection.

MIRADA
JudyB—Since you visited PASL, I’ll add a few lines on Mirada. Thank you for continuing to deliver High Camp Snark. We had no idea when this tn started in it’s traditional mode, that your flair for wordsmithy would shine so brightly when you joined the team.

I wish they’d hurry up and move this thing along; not because I don’t enjoy your recaps, but it’s being stretched out like discarded chewing gum on your shoe bottom on a hot day. Although I now secretly enjoy watching Don Louse’s latest antics. I think the whole cast has finally realized they are in a telenovela and enjoying the romp—except for poor Marina who has to play it straight..

Even Susana is contributing to the romp, not to mention Hildy. As everyone has already noted, she’s a hoot. And Edson? Let me tell you about something I saw which Costume Dept. should grab as soon as they can. I was FORCED to go into a department store and no sooner was I inside the doors, there was the men’s dept. in front of me. On a mannequin was a shiny bronze on bronze jacket (print muted but visible) AND slacks to match. I can’t imagine what kind of event any self-respecting man would wear that to, but it sure ain’t no July picnic—or even a dimly lit disco.

MIRADA

It was such an interesting scene at the church for the christening where Don Louse "begs to hold the little tyke and when Marina relents he holds him up like a Grand Prize Trophy." Or, as Nina put it, 'When He held up booboo be was like Simba Holdin up the "lion king, THIS KINGDOM IS YOURS TO RULE".'

I had to go back to the scene on the DVR and, sure enough, when he lifts Little Rafi up he does not have Rafi facing him, but facing the (rather small in this case) multitude. Definitely presenting the new prince, the Ocaranza heir.

I think they are doing an all-around excellent, fun job with this TN.

andy

MIRADA

Thanks Anita for joining in. You always add so much to the discussion. And you cracked me up with this:

"it’s being stretched out like discarded chewing gum on your shoe bottom on a hot day. Although I now secretly enjoy watching Don Louse’s latest antics"

Alas, most of these telenovelas get stretched out like discarded chewing gum but I'm getting a kick our of Don Louse's creative, humorous moves, Edson's ridiculous loungewear (loved your department store tale)and the whole campy vibe this telenovela is taking. The cast parties must have been a hoot.

And Andy, I totally agree. They are doing an all-around excellent, fun job with this TN. I didn't expect it to be so amusing. Whether it's the cast or the whole crew..it's an intelligent, puckish rehash of an old traditional "rosa" telenovela and it's a blast for now.

I keep waiting to hear from Doris. She's usually the first one to chime in. Hope that she's okay.

MIRADA

I finally watched this episode after lunch today.

Thank you for your recap, Judy. This was difficult to watch, and it had to be difficult to recap.

Vanessa used very bad judgment by escaping from that bar scene and not telling her husband. Doesn’t matter if he is a complete jerk. She continues to be self-centered spoiled brat.

Did anyone else notice the toilet seat sitting all catty-wampus during Vane’s panic attack? Like it was missing a nut & bolt?

Edson has crossed the line into physical domestic violence, now that he has hit Vanessa. Seems like that slap should have left a noticeable mark on her face?

Baby Rafa was sooooo precious in that cute little outfit!! The hat!! Awwwwww! I just want to smoochy smoochy that sweet baby.

”Big Ed needs to be Big DEAD...”
Word!

”And if all those PSAs have their facts straight this will be a pattern with Big Ed: abuse, apologize and promise not to do it again, abuse... and repeat, and repeat.”
You are so correct, Andy. 100% correct.

” . . .Oh shutup. Rafi is more grown up than he is.”
Oh Nina, you cracked me up with that whole paragraph!!! LOL

”Vanessa has gone from being a punching bag for her mom to a punching bag for Big Ed. Similar to real life where abused children go on to relate as adults to even worse abusers.”
Sad and oh, so true. Here and in real life. People who love each other do not treat each other this way.

Ah Doris, so glad to know you're alright and just behind in viewing the episode. I DID notice the odd position of the toilet...but only briefly...more focused on Vane's breathing and whether or not Big Ed would bust in the door. From an acting point of view I did love the graceful way he lofted Vane onto the bed. The actress seemed to be flying rather comfortably. Though I know sometimes these physical altercation scenes go a-wry. Evidently during the Beto/Doc Mask fight in Valle de Bravo, Beto really did land a punch to the gut. And the victim actor stomped off rather than laughing it off. Maybe not all the cast parties are fun and games.

This has been an especially fun patio this episode, even though the storyline is taking a dark turn. Things were really cooking at CarayCaray!

Im watching the episode from yesterday
Did not like what happened to vane. I want her Out of that marriage. I dont like how she treated marina, but she don't Deserve that from that lo-class A-hole.
His friend tryin to feel up his wife &
He to darn drunk and don't really care
Or don't Give a flyin fig, just so he got some eye candy to show off. I find myself wishin she knew martial arts, she could Tare him a new one. And His mother just enables his bad crapy behavior. Did his daddy beat the crap outta her? Shed've Probly flattened him. Ok its just a show. I agree with you anita, they need to move on from this or get rid of big ed. I don't care to see him hit vane again. It's bad enough her ho of a moma do it. They can get rid of her moochy butt too.

Ok now I'll enjoy the rest of my week end without talkin about these screwed
Up people. Smile :-) it just a show.
Kinda.

Bouquets to JudyB. What a treat to read your words!
I did not hear Vanessa tell BigRigs Mom or Beto about the slap. It was a doozy. Think she can’t break out of the abused mode thanks to Mom.
Both Vane and Edson saying “los dos?” In unison was a tiny bit of humor in an ugly scene.
Marina looked great in her lavender dress
I don’t think Lucrecia is going anywhere. However, Ramona is going to have all the loose ends tied together in one tidy package

Good to enjoy your comments this morning Nina and Mely. Always a great start to my day to be in conversation with my CarayCaray mates.

Nina...love "moochy butt" That brain of your comes up with some wonderful word salads.

Mely....yes, good point. That "los dos"!!!! was a tiny bit of humor at an ugly time...as was Hilda's over the top selling of the idea as the spa being "divis, divis, divis"!

Hate Chucha as a mother, but still like Hilda. She did comfort Vanessa tenderly during her panic attack. She's definitely maternal. But her son is a spoiled mess.

And yes, Ramona will have "all the loose ends tied together in one tidy package". But will she do the right thing? Up to now, her pathetic devotion to DocMask has kept her as an enabler. Time will tell. As always.

"Both Vane and Edson saying “los dos?” In unison was a tiny bit of humor in an ugly scene. "
That was funny, and that scene needed a bit of humor.

The big questions I have are:
1. Why did Luis shoot Toribio?
2. Was it purely accidental?
3. If he intentionally meant harm, why didn't he finish the job and kill him?

Hopefully the answers will be revealed.

And may I rant for a minute? My cable provider, ATT Uverse, has been in contract negotiations with ABC, the CW network, and who knows what other channels. This is "Jane The Virgin"'s final season and I only saw the first few episodes before the plug was pulled on CE network. I will have no idea how it ends. Don't want to try to find it online and watch on my iPad. Hubby and I talked it over and it may be time to go back to Comcast. Ugh... Well, maybe with Comcrap I would get Univision in HD? ATT gives it in low def only 😛. First world problems, but ... gosh darn! I would like to sic Doc Mask, Zackrat, Susana, Edson, and Lucreepy on them!

Is it any wonder I read more books than watch shows on TV?!?!

CW ... not CE network. Thank you spellcheck.

I really think the shooting was an accident. But I don't know. It has all been very mysterious so far. And so sorry about your cable problems Doris. I don't know anybody who is happy with their cable provider. The prices are scandalous, we get a whole lot of channels which don't interest us, and when there is a special program..well, what happened to you is a perfect example. Thanks to negotiations, you're screwed.

Still, I'm so thrilled to have a Spanish station. I never watched TV before but my husband knew I was trying to learn the language and he was the one who told me about Univision, being the rabid channel-surfer that he is. Pretty soon we were fighting about who got to watch TV when. He probably regretted ever telling me, because before that, the TV was all his all the time.

Judy - LOL. Marital peace is maintained here with multiple TVs and a DVR that records more than one show at a time. 😊. Otherwise, we would have to buy two neighboring condos and cut an adjoining door between them.

Sounds like a good idea for marital peace no matter how many TV's you have!

"MIRADA":

Judy: Let me get this straight: Suzy abused Vanessa ?

MIRADA
Steve--Have you been watching this tn? Susana has been abusing Mi Vane verbally and then physically almost from the first episode.

Good Day, Patio Peeps!

I had a busy and productive week-end, but checked in quietly for my daily dose of the Mirada clique.

Doris and JudyB, I too believe that the shooting was an accident. The reaction Luis had of panic and shock were not that of someone who would intentionally shoot someone...and he ran off blaming the devil. The shooting may have been accidently, but hiding the truth wasn't. THey've never given any indication of what kind of man Luis's father was like, but if he "paid off" Tori as we believe he did, then he isn't much different than Luis.

Can't wait to see what happens at the Baptism celebration...must see TV!

Agree Rgv Chick! This story is really drawing me in as it goes along!
