Scenes
combined where it made sense to do so.
Mexico City: Michelle
told El Gringo off about his bloodlust, letting him know that it
would catch up with him someday. She reminded him that he wasn't
bullet-proof. He took this to mean she as not on his side. She said
she was but that they needed to go about this itelligently. He said
he was changing strategy and that meant he was going to kill Carlos.
Monterrey: The brothers'
lawyer tried to tell the Vega team that they had no business being
involved in this situation. Alonso corrected him, saying that under
commerce law all parties had the right to all knowledge of what
happened with the business. Some documents had been redacted, which
Javier said hid information from Maite. The brothers' lawyer denied
that this was the intention. Alonso suggested that all the cards be
put on the table so they could come to an agreement. Ernesto tried
to get Maite to talk to them without the lawyers. She looked at them
as though they had just grown their horns. Alonso said that was not
going to happen. Alonso made three demands: Maite will not cede her
power to make decisions, she receives an equal share of all business
transactions made, and that his office receives copies of all
documents regarding the business in case she has any doubts. The
brothers' lawyer said they would have to get them from the company's
legal department. Roberto made a sarcastic comment about getting
this information from the very group that redacted documents before.
Maite understood this very well. The brothers and their lawyer left
the conference room to discuss this.
Mexico City: Michelle
told her brother that killing Carlos would not benefit him. She had
El Ciego's telephone number, which she had gotten at Carlos' place.
El Gringo didn't want El Ciego's phone number, he wanted him where he
wanted him. She pointed out that she had gotten the info from
Carlos, who had owed El Ciego and therefore had his cell number. She
said that waiting would get him what he wanted. El Gringo told her
she had no clue how their business was supposed to run. He was
determined to kill Carlos and told Michelle to stay out of the way.
If she didn't hand him El Ciego immediately Carlos would die.
Ricardo went to see Benjamín in
the slammer; he was not willing to talk to him. He accused the Vega
firm of abandoning him while defending Carlos Ibarra [Well,
pendejo, what did you expect them to do when they found out you were
laundering drug money?] He accused the entire firm of being
hypocrites about seeing the firm as a family. [Should someone
remind this narcissist that he was never a team player?] He said
that someday Alonso will pay for this.
Monterrey: The brothers
and their lawyer returned. The lawyer was willing to deal as long as
Alonso's fees were paid by Maite and not by the company. Roberto
said that they had no intention of taking his job. Ernesto described
this as a caprice on Maite's part, but Javier didn't let him get away
with this. He came right out and said that Maite was looking to
protect her own shares from being stolen by him and their brother.
Their lawyer demanded an extra commission for his clients for the
deals they were negotiating. The other brother complained that they
maintained their sister. She said although her career was elsewere
that they didn't have the right to take what rightfully belongs to
her. From that day forward she wanted to be more involved, with
Alonso's help, as she can trust him more than her own brothers.
Ernesto looked at his brother and they agreed to the terms.
[However, I would still not trust these two.]
Mexico City: Ricardo said
he understood how he felt but he was the last chance at connecting
the dots regarding the Dorantes brothers. He told Benjamín about
the attacks on the firm. Benjamín was in the same cell block as
Ramiro Dorantes. Benjamín said he couldn't help him.
Monterrey: The brothers
and their lawyer returned with a revised agreement. Alonso demanded
two more copies for his partners to review and their lawyer went to
have them made. Ernesto said to Maite that this changes their
relationship forever. He could not believe that she sicced a law
firm on her own brothers. She agreed, saying that she couldn't
believe that her own family would try to steal from her. The
brothers' lawyer came back with the copies, which Alonso handed to
Javier and Roberto. He said that this was not meant to be a fight,
only prevention so that such a thing doesn't happen all over again.
He said that he was protecting Maite's interests and if this happened
again he would be less genial about it. The brothers' lawyer said
not to threaten his clients. Alonso said that this was not a threat,
just a recommendation. Ernesto said to make whatever revisions were
necessary and (I think) that this was the last time he would see his
sister. [Not that this meant much, as what he and his brother
planned would have accomplished that anyway.]
Mexico City: Ricardo
tried to convince Benjamín that he was a better person than he was.
That he was bitter because of where he was and was unable to see his
son. Benjamín said that this was a “delicate” situation and
that if they wanted his help they would have to get him out of
prison. [Ricardo, this could be the biggest mistake of your
career and your life.]
Sonia went to see Carlos at his
office. He was in the process of disposing of incriminating things.
She came to talk about what happened to Alan. Carlos reminded her
that this always happens to lawyers who end up in prison. She asked
him what he and Alan had been hiding.
Ricardo reminded Benjamín that
he was in prison for very serious offenses. He could not promise him
that he could get him out. Benjamín said that there was a whole
office full of lawyers; someone had to be able to.
Carlos denied that they were
hiding anything but she didn't buy it. Carlos said that the only
hidden thing was that Alan was Patricia's killer, Téllez knew, and
that was why Alan killed him. She made it clear that she didn't
believe in coincidences and that she would not stop until she found
the truth. Carlos kept his cool until she was out the door. He was
worried.
Benjamín finally said he would
do it but wouldn't tell him anything until he was sure he was working
to get him out of there. They shook hands, but Ricardo looked a
little doubtful.
Juan went down to Archives to get
the files on Pedro. He asked Tatiana whether she felt any better
about this. She said “a little” with just enough of a note of
damsel-in-distress to get to him.
Monterrey: Alonso told
Maite to call them anytime she had questions. They met up with her
fiancé. Alonso encouraged her to learn about the business. Another
discussion about many people not knowing their legal rights.
Mexico City: Carlos was
on the phont with another lawyer; he ended the call just as Nancy
walked in. He told her about Sonia's visit; she was not surprised.
She asked if there was anything she could do. He told her to go
through all the records Alan had on the foundation and make sure that
only Alan's name appeared on them. If she found anything with his
own name on them, destroy them.
Juan tried to tell Tatiana he was
confused and – of course – she continued to come on to him. He
begged off dinner that night because he had things to do. He
refrained from showing her his new car. This time.
Monterrey: Alonso,
Javier, and Roberto ate together and Roberto tried to get Javier to
open up. He mentioned were he had worked before in investigations
but would not answer Roberto's question about what made him choose
this line. He wanted to get back to work. He picked up his
briefcase and startetd back to Mexico City. Alonso and Roberto
continued to talk about their corporate family.
Mexico City: Ricardo went
back to the office and talked to Gustavo. He did not agree with the
idea of getting Benjamín out of prison. Ricardo didn't like this
either, but thought it was their last chance. Gustavo said not to do
this unless Benjamín got worthy information. He then said he had
people to talk to also. He also said that he had no fear of death.
“If is comes down to it, save yourself” he said. [That's an
omen if ever there was one.] Ricardo refused to let him do this
alone.
Sofia was trying to work out the
documents for her mother's situation when Ricardo entered her office.
Ricardo looked them over, said the were alright, and said he would
be with her when she got her mother to sign.
Susanna told Juan she didn't hear
his car pull in. He had not driven back. She got worried that it
had been stolen but he told her it wasn't that. He had gone back to
the dealership and traded it in on a more expensive car. As all of
us flies on the wall predicted, she didn't like this one bit and they
had the same conversation about style vs. substance. She asked him
who put this idea into his head, already knowing the answer. When he
said Tatiana's name a few sentences later she let him know she did
not approve of her and didn't want to see her in her home ever again.
She didn't like her influence over Juan or what he was becoming.
All this was breaking her heart.
Carlos and Nancy worked late and
she told him he should go home and rest. They had spent hours
working on the foundation records and she said they could finish it
the next day after he had rested. He finally agreed to go home. She
kissed him, he took his briefcase, and left.
Nancy was about to leave when
Michelle came into the firm looking for Carlos. Nancy told her he
was not in; he had been working hard all day long. She should call
the next day during normal business hours. Michelle was not about to
be put off, saying it was urgent. Nancy then asked whether it was
about her non-existent business and let her know she was
investigating her. She asked Michelle what she was trying to pull.
Susanna pulled out all the stops,
telling Juan that what he was doing was wrong. He tried explaining
that he had worked out how to pay for the new car, but that didn't
impress her. She was sure he was doing this to impress Tatiana and
anyone else who was concerned with superficial things. She even said
that she was glad his father wasn't alive to see this because it
would kill him. She thought he was throwing his money into the
garbage. She was upset that he was throwing his life away on bad
decisions.
Nancy demanded to know what
Michelle was up to and the argument that ensued ended with two
cachetadas that will probably become a catfight in the next
episode.
