I hope to have a short recap up in about an hour.

reina-sur2
La Reina del Sur 2 - Jueves- Parte 1 de 2

This recap will be less complete than the episode deserves. I hope other people will add to it and correct whatever is wrong.

Sheila has apparently arranged for Teresa to talk to Batman, who needs her help. He and Sheila pull up in one car, and they talk to Teresa, who is with Lupo in another car. Batman admits that he intended to kill Epifanio, but someone beat him to it. He didn't see who it was. All he saw was a shadow.
Sheila asks Teresa to help Batman. Teresa agrees, but Batman will have to put aside his wish for vengeance against Epifanio. The bullet he has for Epi will have to be directed instead at Alejandro.

In Málaga, Tirana comes in the dark to Cayetana's house. [Tirana looks like something out of a horror film.] She enters the house and finds Sofía's room. Sofía hears someone, thinks it's her grandmather, and asks whether she's having trouble sleeping. Tirana grabs her and puts a plastic wrapper over her head, making it hard for her to breathe. Sofía struggles unsuccessfully, but she's saved by Cayetana, who hits Tirana over the head with something.

Oleg tells Rocio to be careful. They're all depending on her. It's not clear what Rocio is planning to do. Teresa walks in with Sheila. and Batman.

Bebita is bombarding Epifanio with questions. Who is Lupo? Why did Epi say that Alejandro is with the DEA? What does Epi have to do with Teresa Mendoza? Epifanio says they'll finish the conversation at home, right now he has to make an appearance and let people see that he's alive. He walks out to greet the crowd with Bebita at his side. He begins by thanking her, she's his rock and his strength. He then says he's not afraid of threats or attacks. If the Mexican people want him to be their president, he's here.

Ale and Christian are watching Epi speak. Ale suggests that perhaps they could go back to the original plan. Christian says no way, Sheldon's orders were very clear. He acknowledges that it will now be more difficult to get to Epi, and that's why it will be up to Ale to handle things. For example, Epi could suffer a respiratory attack or cardiac arrest.

Charo and Pepe have helped Cayetana tie up Tirana. Cayetana, armed with her gun, asks them to leave her alone with Tirana. They leave, and she berates Tirana. They badmouth and threaten each other. Cayetana says she knows what it's like to lose a son. Somewhat to my surprise, she admits that she understands why Teo was killed, that she spoiled him and he grew up wanting more and more, and he conned and deceived people. As she and Tirana are talking, Tirana is using her knife to cut away at the rope binding her hands behind her back. She then kicks what looks like dirt and leaves in Cayetana's face and runs off. Cayetana shoots in her direction but doesn't hit her. A short time later, Tirana comes back and attacks Cayetana. They struggle. Charo runs in to save Cayetana. Tirana stabs her and then comes after Cayetana. Sofía runs in from behind and tries to pull Tirana away from Cayetana. Tirana shakes Sofía off and then comes after her. Suddenly, there's a pistol pressing against Tirana's head. It's Cayetana, who tells Tirana "You're going to be a grandmother, but you'll never meet your grandchild." She shoots Tirana [at last!!].

Cayetana then notices that Charo is lying on the ground, bleeding. She tells Pepe to call an ambulance. She then goes to Charo, holds her, and and tells her to talk to her. Charo tells her it's the first time she's told her to speak instead of to shut up. Charo tells Sofía that her grandmother is tough, but she's a good woman. She also tells Cayetana to make up with Paloma and Rocio.

reina-sur2
La Reina del Sur2 - Jueves - Parte 2 de 3

Charo is clearly trying to get everything in before she dies. She urges Sofía to look for her sisters, "they're good girls, like you." She continues, "Be strong and take care of your grandmother. She's very stubborn and grouchy, but she's a good woman and she loves you." Finally, she says to Cayetana, "It's been a pleasure to be at your side all these years." Cayetana pleads, "Don't die, I love you." However, Charo is no longer listening.

Rocio visits Faustino in prison. He again tells her she doesn't have to do this. She replies, "You made me a promise, and you're going to keep it." Faustino asks whether they'll have their honeymoon in the prison library. Rocio replies that they're going to be married, and far from the prison. She tells him he's going to have an important visit tomorrow, and she asks what time he goes to the prison yard. He tells her 8 am. At that point, the guard tells them that the time is up for the visit. Rocio tells Faustino that she has a message for him from Oleg. "Find out who David Kaplan is." She bids him goodbye by saying "Tomorrow at 8 am in the yard."

Ray comes to see Jimena. She and her family are happy to see him. Virginia persuades her mother to leave the two young people by themselves. They leave, and Ray tells Jimena that he came to end the relationship. He explains that her grandfather had his uncle, el Güero Davila, killed. "How could I have a relationship with such a family?" he asks. He leaves.

Epifanio and Bebita arrive home. She tells him that they haven't finished talking. He claims he's still in pain. Then his phone rings, he takes it out and tells Bebita that it's the President calling. She leaves, and he talks on the phone to...Teresa. He tells her she saved his life. [For some reason, I'm drawing a blank on the rest of their conversation. Sorry.]

Having broken up with Jimena, Ray then comes to see Paloma. He asks forgiveness, tells her he has ended things with Jimena, and says he wants to be with her. He explains that he found out that Epifanio is her grandfather, and that he doesn't want to be part of that family. If he and Jimena had a baby, the child would be carrying a murderer's blood. Paloma tells him that if he's so worried about bloodlines, he shouldn't be with her. She says that eventually he will come to resent the child she's carrying, since he's not the father. He asks her whether there's any chance they can get together eventually. She wisely says no.

La Reina del Sur2 - Jueves - Parte 3 de 3

Cayetana makes a statement to the police and says that her granddaughters are innocent. "If they're innocent, they should come back to Spain and testify," replies the policeman. "If you're looking for a guilty person, I'll give you one," she tells him. He leaves. Sofía asks Cayetana, "If my sisters didn't kill the boy, who did?" Cayetana replies, "I did." Sofía tells Cayetana "If I hadn't come, Charo would still be alive. Please forgive me." She says she wants to call her mother and have her come and take her. "I don't want to cause you more problems" Cayetana replies, "If you leave, I'll die."

Ale receives a call from Danilo. Ale talks about wanting to be with him and kiss him and make love to him. But then Danilo cries "Help me! I've been brought to Mexico! I've been drugged, lied to! Help me! Then Teresa gets on the phone and tells Ale "You and I are going to negotiate my leaving Mexico." Alejandro is furious and starts saying how he will kill everyone close to her and then he'll kill her. Teresa's reply:" blah blah blah." She says that if he doesn't want his boyfriend sent home in pieces, he'll met with her. "When and where?" asks Ale. "Tomorrow at 8 am. I'll send you the address a half hour ahead of time." [Hmm...8 am is when something is going to happen with Faustino at the prison. Coincidence??? Not likely. We'll see tomorrow.]

Sorry. I never intended this recap to go to a third part, but the website's software claimed part 2 was too long.

REINA

I finally got to watch this one this a.m. Juanita, why would you apologize for a long recap??? It was a pleasure to read. Thank you for yet another outstanding recap . The character limit can be a pain. I don’ cut and paste from another program but compose in the comment box, so I understand the problem.

Funny: I have the Spanish subtitles on and they are for a different show. It looks like something with a magician and kids. ??? That is funny. That being said Telemundo has consistently posted the Reina del Sur episode on Comcast OnDemand the day following the episode. I got up at 5:00 a.m. and it was waiting for me. If only all novelas were OnDemand in such a timely manner. It may make me watch more Telemundo.

Wow! So much happened and the episode went so quickly.

You all were right about Batman not being the shooter but it rather being a DEA sharpshooter.

The best of the episode:

RAY telling Ximena “No me toques!” Ha! Ha! I think this is the first time I have heard a man say that famous line.

Teresa telling Alejandro “tic tac” and threatening to send Danilo home in pieces.

Paloma finally doing something smart by telling Ray she could never be with him.

The Cayetana character being rehabilitated through her love for Sofía. Btw, if genetics have anything to do with anything, with Teresa as a mother and Cayetana as a grandmother, there will be no stopping Sofía.

Hmmm, what awaits Sánchez Godoy in the yard at 8:00 a.m.? I can only guess.

Thanks, again, Juanita.

Reina 2

Juanita, please don't apologize, this was much more than a quick summary. Thank you very much.

Sofia, la redentora: I'ts like she's collecting lost souls to create the family she's never had.

So sad about Charo. At least they gave her a good send off scene.

The door is open for the Aljarafe sisters to return to Spain. Imagine Sanchez Godoy giving up the biz to become legit...

The new DEA plan is to poison Epi? That fits Ale much better.

If there is a jailbreak planned, does it include Anton?

Zurdo is still around somewhere. I can't believe he won't make another attempt. Big mistake Teresa.

Jarifa, genetics...so right.

reina-sur2

Many thanks, Jarifa and deb, for your terrific comments.

Jarifa, I think I was apologizing both to folks who expected 2 parts and, perhaps especially, to myself. I had promised myself that I'd be done shortly after midnight at the latest (since I had to get up early this morning), but I broke my promise. :-)
Also, I loved your point about Sofía's genetics!

deb, yes, poisoning is much more appropriate for that snake Ale to use. And I too wondered whether a jailbreak would include Anton. I'm assuming it would/will. And yes, elephant Zurdo is still very much in the room.

I'm really starting to wonder how this will all turn out. I suppose it depends in part on whether Telemundo is planning (or leaving open the possibility of) a season 3. As I've said before, I'd like to see them quit while they're still ahead, but Telemundo has never been known to follow that notion (What, never? Well, hardly ever. :-) )

reina-sur2

Juanita, thanks SO much for coming to Viewerville's rescue and staying up late. We had a wonderful time at book club. The book was Less the 2018 Pulitzer winner from Andrew Sean Greer, a very funny and touching book about a gay man who embarks on months of international travel to avoid attending the wedding of "the man who got away".

The rest of Teresa's conversation with Epifanio was to tell him that Batman did not shoot him and, I believe, that she wanted him somehow to help get Alejandro.

So we've had two redeemed characters that I have my doubts will both still be alive at the end of the show. They are Lupo/Michele and Cayetana.

I LOVED what she said to Triana. Triana said that her baby boy had style, art and was going to be a great bullfighter. Cayetana replied that he didn't have the huevos to fight bulls, that he was a coward who raped and beat up women. She said she could relate to Triana because she also had a son who was everything to her, but that son more or less deserved to die. He was killed by a woman he'd cheated and turned in to the police. The only bad thing about this scene was worry because we kept getting camera angles of Triana sawing away on the ropes tying her up. And, yes, she was right out of a horror movie.

And I had another enjoyable moment later as Teresa brought Alejandro to heel and giving him that blah...blah...blah, and then a tictac, tictac. The thing about these bad guys is they attribute their own behavior to their enemies. Ale wouldn't hesitate to kill an innocent person (vis Sofía) to gain an end, so he really believes Teresa would kill Danilo.

Jarifa, yes, I watch with Spanish subtitles and especially need them for European Spanish speakers. They were crazy last night. As I've mentioned, I record the 7:00 CA time, East Coast feed of the show. When that problem cropped up, I went to live TV and recorded the 10:00 PM showing. The subtitles were fine then. Weird.

La Reina 2

wonderful recap Juanita!
thank you so much for the time and effort you put in.

I wasn't able to watch last night.

Jarifa- I watched the show at telemundo.com, their new setup is really nice, they also call it on demand, it's better than tv.

yep, Teresa talks Batman out of his revenge, did she say, would you rather eat dirt or eat sh*t?

Tirana was sure making a lot of noise sneaking into the house, leaving a trail of blood from the knife cut she made on her finger, must be a gypsy thing, I was also intrigued by her banter in the stable putting a curse on Cayetana, causing her to doubt herself.

so a non-gypsy is a gorgio.

at least Vevita got the part of her brother being DEA and getting Epi out of prison to be president.

funny watching Ray dump Jimena, and then Paloma dumping Ray, she must be growing up, "the baby is more important than you".

I've seen that swimming pool before where they are holding Danilo.

reina-sur2

I have to be in dire circumstances to watch a novela on Telemundo.com. This is because you get the commercials. I'm a confirmed DVR person and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard for me to have to EVER watch a commercial.

La Reina 2

novelera- yep, recordings are the best.

but hey, my web browser blocks the ads, there is just a short pause and a black screen between segments.

reina-sur2

Thanks very much, novelera and deb, for your helpful comments.

novelera, yes, what you say about the conversation between Teresa and Batman rings a bell. For some reason, I just drew a blank last night. And I suspect you may be right about Lupo/Michele and Cayetana being not long for this world. I hope at least they'll be joined by some unredeemed characters, especially Alejandro. And I wonder when Cayetana came to the understanding she expressed last night about Teo and his death.

deb, did Tirana use the word "gorgio" last night? If so, I must have missed it. Thanks for providing it. It was not a word I'd heard or seen before. And yes, I think Bebita is finally beginning to recognize that she may not know her brother as well as she thought. Her investigative reporter skills are at war with her love for Ale and for Epifanio.

REINA

Just got home. The recap will be up tomorrow morning some time.

La Reina 2

Joel David Kaplan, interesting googling, and he wrote a book about it.

"Most of the 136 guards at Mexico City’s Santa Maria Acatitla prison were watching a movie with the prisoners last week when a Bell helicopter, similar in color to the Mexican attorney general’s, suddenly clattered into the prison yard."

"Kaplan, one of the two escapees, was a prominent New York businessman from a wealthy family. In 1962, Kaplan’s business partner Louis Vidal Jr. had been proclaimed dead in Mexico City; Kaplan had been charged with killing Vidal, even though there seemed to be doubts over whether the body in question was actually Vidal’s."

"Following the flight to freedom, the helicopter delivered the two men to a private plane at a nearby airport, which in turn delivered them to an airport near the Texas border,"

"The real twist, however, came later. After arriving in the U.S., Kaplan insisted that the entire process had been entirely legal. The prison in Mexico had not been damaged in any way. No one had been hurt. Both the helicopter and the private plane used within Mexico were purchased outright rather than rented, so it would be impossible to make any claim that they had been used improperly, and everything about the flight was done according to FAA standards. When crossing into the U.S. in Texas, Kaplan and the pilot both used their correct names when speaking with customs officials. “His escape, the lawyer claims, was perfectly legal since jail breaks are a crime in Mexico only if violence is used against prison personnel or property or if prison inmates or officials aid the escape,”"

“Mexican authorities disagree, insisting that the use of accomplices—the pilots, in Kaplan’s case—makes the escape illegal. However, Mexican officials have not yet initiated extradition proceedings against Kaplan or his partners, who seemed to have pulled off a practically noncriminal crime.”

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 Capítulo 59 Friday 7/27/19 Part 1

As Cayetana and her lawyer walk into the police station to make a statement to the authorities, he asks her if she is sure that this is what she wants to do. She states that when she has put her mind to something, she doesn’t change it. He reminds her that her declaration has to match the police report and the forensic evidence. She enters an office and announces that she Cayetana Aljarafe is there to turn herself in for the death of Juan José Montoya.

At Epifanio’s house, Vevita is raving on about not being able to believe everything he has told her about her brother Alejandro being a monster.. She lived and grew up with him. He says that that is what his initial investigation is showing. Maybe he will be proven wrong. They will have to wait to see what the authorities say. She next turns her rage to Batman. Epifanio assures her that if Batman is involved he will rot in jail. He finally agrees to talk to Alejandro just to put her at peace. He calls Alejandro.

Alejandro and Cristián are ready to do some plotting at the hotel when Alejandro’s phone rings. Epifanio tells Alejandro he wants to talk for Vevita’s sake. Alejandro doesn’t want to talk to him if he still believes Teresa. He also doesn’t want tons of soldiers around. Epifanio jumps on that saying he must want to be free to finish his “work”. Alejandro accuses him of not trusting him, Cristián motions for Alejandro to cool it. They finally set a date to talk tomorrow at eight both of them alone. Alejandro is not happy but gives in.

At some vacated building, Teresa is with Michele and Jonathan. Danilo is seated in a chair.. Yes, Jonathan has done what she wanted and leaves. She gives Danilo some water telling him it is not poisoned. She continues telling the story of what happened with her friend Patricia O’Farrell. Patricia loved her. She loved her, too, but not in the same way. She ended up dead because a DEA agent that looked like her was able to make Patricia fall in love with her. Patricia’s love for Teresa had damned her. Sometimes love kills. Teresa asks Michele if that is not true. There is no answer. Teresa continues that there are some DEA agents that are so well trained that they know how to get to one’s heart. Michele asks if the agent loved Patricia, too. Yes, she did. Teresa considers what happens when you fall in love with the wrong person. Yes, Danilo loves Alejandro. Teresa can’t see Alejandro giving up his ambition for him. Danilo insists that Alejandro really truly loves him back. Teresa says that is how good these agents are. They do everything to make you fall in love with them and then when they get you where they want you, they stick the knife in and twist it. Teresa assures Danilo they are not going to kill him but that it is also going to hurt a lot when he finds out who Alejandro really is. She says to ask Lupo who is really Michele.Danilo remembers Alejandro mentioning a Lupo and a Teresa in a phone conversation. Danilo says he heard their names but Alejandro wouldn’t tell him anything. Teresa says, of course not.

LA REINA Part 2

The same thing happened to Teresa. She reaffirms Danilo’s conclusion that Alejandro is a DEA agent and that he is under cover. Michele adds that Alejandro worked with him in the kidnapping of Teresa’s daughter and that Alejandro gave the order to kill Danilo’s cousin because he was blackmailing him with a compromising photo of Alejandro and Danilo. Danilo sobs as Teresa looks on.

Alejandro is raging on about not caring what happens to Epifanio, Batman or Jonathan. He only wants to get his hands on Teresa. (The problem is that the meetings with Epifanio and Teresa are both set for 8:00 with Alejandro. ) Cristián reminds him that getting Epifanio out of the mix is the first thing they need to do. Alejandro insists his priority is Danilo and doesn’t want to work on their priorities simultaneously as Cristián suggests. Cristián informs him that he himself will deal with Lupo and Teresa and Alejandro is to deal with Epifanio. When Alejandro hears that Danilo could end up as collateral damage he goes crazy and attacks Cristián. Cristián gets him to calm down and then asks him if he remembers when he told him that Epifanio would die of a heart attack or just stop breathing. He shows Alejandro a special metal container that contains the poison polonium. It has no taste, no scent and is 100% effective. It cannot be detected. Epifanio will die several days after being exposed to it from “natural causes”. Their Russian comrades have had quite good luck in using it. Alejandro’s meeting with Epifanio is their last chance to kill Epifanio. Alejandro accepts the container but tells Cristián that Danilo has to survive. Cristián cannot promise anything. Alejandro says that is his condition and reminds him that he is dealing with the next president of Mexico. Cristián agrees to get Danilo out alive.

At the jail, Godoy is sitting out in the yard with Antón in front of a wall where it says “Aquel que no espera vencer, ya está vencido.” (He who hopes not to overcome is already defeated.) He tells him about how his girlfriend gave him a time and the name David Kaplan. Another prisoner overhears them and tells them the story of how David Kaplan is the hero of Mexican inmates. He managed to escape when a helicopter swooped on by and took him one August day while the inmates were out watching a movie. The guards later said they didn’t shoot because the jail attorney had a yellow helicopter just like it. Who knows if the guards were involved or paid off. They all laugh. Godoy says it sounds like something out of the movies.

At their new safe house, Rocío tells Oleg that she delivered the message to Godoy exactly as he gave it to her. He hope that Godoy and Antón understood the message. Sheila comes in with Batman and suggests he sleep on the couch as Ahmed looks on. Oleg tells them all to get a good night’s sleep because tomorrow is a key day and they all need to be ready.

It is night and Godoy is up wondering what tomorrow holds. The poison sits in its canister as Alejandro sits thinking. Epifanio stares into the night. El Zurdo is awake and thinking. The dawn comes. Teresa awakens in bed with Michele. She turns over and traces her finger over Sofía’s name on his chest. They make love. El Zurdo is still awake and calls to Lencho. He is interested in the place Teresa was hiding out before, the dry cleaner. He tells Lencho to get the gang together because they are going to pay the dry cleaner a visit. He has a shot of tequila for breakfast.

LA REINA Part 3

Epifanio leaves his house and crawls into the back of an SUV where he stays hidden. Vevita gets in the driver’s seat and takes off smuggling him out of military protection telling the guard Epifanio is going to be resting all day.

Alejandro and Cristián coordinate their missions for the day. Alejandro gives him Teresa’s address. Alejandro reminds him again to remember who he is dealing with. Cristián understands that Teresa and her people are to be killed and assures Alejandro that Danilo will get out alive. They wish each other good luck.

Back at the vacated building with Danilo, Jonathan, Ray and Teresa agree everything is ready. She leaves. Jonathan asks Ray why the “cara de perro atropellado” (run over dog face) . Ray admits to Jonathan he has ended up like “el perro con dos tortas” ( the dog with two sandwiches: a dog cannot make up its mind between which sandwich it wants and is left with NONE) He explains about Ximena and Paloma.

Jonathan and his parade of DEA vehicles winds its way through Culiacán Alejandro is driving to his meeting.. Vevita stops her SUV next to a non-descript car parked on the street she has gotten for Epifanio to use. She grabs the keys from under the fender and gives them to him.. She tells him to listen to what Alejandro has to say and not to jump to conclusions. He tells her not to worry he has managed worst situations He leaves.

Over the prison yard appears a yellow helicopter flown by Oleg. It drops two lines as prison sirens scream. Godoy and his buddy grab on and are carried away. One guard in a tower wants to shoot but another stops him saying they better check with authorities first.

Alejandro arrives at the meeting place and takes out the poison canister. He opens it and removes a small vial. He gets out of the car.

The DEA forces arrive at the dry cleaners and enter from the rear ready to fight.

Back at the vacant building, Michele assures Danilo that he will be home soon if he follows instructions.Ray and Jonathan announce that Alejandro has arrived. Danilo asks if they are going to kill Alejandro. Teresa says that depends on Alejandro. Alejandro wanders around outside and finally rings the door bell. Epifanio leads him in to where Teresa and her crew with Danilo are awaiting him. Teresa greets him with a big smile him saying he fell into their trap. She thought he’d be going himself to rescue Danilo instead of meeting with Epifanio. Alejandro accuses Epifanio of taking up with the enemy.Epifanio says it lately all depends on who the enemy is. Alejandro asks what Teresa offered Epifanio. She offered to save him from Alejandro. Ahmed and Ray both grab Danilo. Alejandro asks if Epifanio has forgotten everything he did for him. Epifanio answers no he hasn’t but “Teresita” never shot him. Danilo starts to beg Alejandro to get him out of there. Alejandro tells them to let Danilo go because he has nothing to do with it. Epifanio and Teresa “argue” about whether they should let Danilo go or not. Teresa says it is obvious he loves his “boyfriend”. Teresa says no problem. We are in the 21st century. As Epifanio tries to imagine what Alejandro might be into sexually, Alejandro pulls his gun but is immediately overpowered. Teresa orders the guys to search him and they find the vial.

LA REINA Part 4

El,Zurdo limping with a cane (but all armed up) and his men arrive at the dry cleaners and enter from the front. A gunfight ensues with El Zurdo and his men quickly overpowered by the he DEA forces. El Zurdo is left gurgling and choking on his own blood as he tries to breathe his last. Cristián and his men are confused. They just killed the drug lord Zurdo Villa but Teresa and Danilo are nowhere to be found. Cristián realizes they were set up. He calls and orders a chopper to come pick him up.

Another chopper is unloading Godoy and friend away from the prison ina field. Rocío runs to meet Godoy saying she told him they would be married but not in the prison. He gives her some wildflowers he just picked from the field they landed in. They kiss as Oleg approaches.

Back in Spain, Cayetana gives her “testimony” on how she killed Juan. .She explains how that night her other granddaughter had gotten a call from Paloma. That spoiled brat Juan was mistreating her and had raped her. Paloma was desperate. Cayetana decided to go to Juan’s house. She drove herself. Rocío came along but stayed in the car as Cayetana went in by herself. When Juanito saw her he went crazy and started insulting her. They argued. He had a gripe with Cayetana because she had had fired him from working on her farm a few days earlier. Paloma tried to defend her but he became like an animal ripping at Paloma’s clothing and mistreating her. He said he was going to rape her in front of Cayetana so she could see what a “macho” he was. The head detective’s eyes look very concerned when he hears that. Cayetana continues her “story” saying Juan stated that all of the women in her family were sluts. He was like an animal and she went crazy herself. She grabbed something in the the dark and hit him over and over and over again in the head. as hard as she could. He lost his balance and fell. She then discovered that Paloma and Rocío had left together. Afterwards, she got in her car and drove around the city to see if she could find her granddaughters. She didn’t find them and hasn’t seen them since,

Godoy thanks Oleg and shakes his hand. For doing what he did, he is offering him half of his fortune. Oleg says he will take him up on the deal because of his situation. Oleg informs Rocío they have a little less than an hour before the military closes the area down. Godoy asks how Teresa is doing. Oleg says if things don’t get messed up they will all be together soon. They will meet up back at the house.

The detective states that they have a witness who says the perpetrator was a young woman dressed all in black. Cayetana tells them how dark it was and that she has been in mourning (wearing black) for ten years following the death of her son. She assures him it was she who murdered Juan José Montoya.

REINA 2

Heads up: there is a Reina del Sur 2 special on Tuesday at 6:00 pm central.

This was my last recap For “La Reina 2” so I want to thank the other recappers: Juanita, novelera, and blockhead for making this such a fun and welcoming experience. It was pleasure working with all of you and here is hoping another Telemundo novela draws me over to recap again.

I said I was taking a break from recapping after “ Mi marido tiene más familia” ended but then got drawn in by “Silvia Pinal ” and of course, the return of La Reina. Now, I think I will take a break until I see what fall/winter brings to Univision.

I also want to thank everyone who joined us on the patio to discuss Teresa and her adventures. I loved reading everyone’s opinions and ideas. You guys make it worth recapping.

Deb, thank you for the information on Mr. Kaplan.

That is all for now. I will have some opinions on the episode más tarde.

reina-sur2

Jarifa, many many thanks for this magnificent recap! You've captured everything with astonishing clarity and grace. You've also helped to clarify some things I hadn't understood.

I thought it was very smart of Teresa to tell Danilo about her relationship (and Veronica's) with Patty O'Farrell. It helped him relate to her as something other than a hostile enemy, and of course her mention of "Lupo" made him remember the phone call in which Ale mentioned "Lupo" and "Teresa" but refused to tell Danilo what it was about.

I loved it when, a bit later, in Epifanio's presence, Teresa talks about Danilo as Ale's novio. Epifanio is stunned, and he asks Ale whether he's going to respond to this gross accusation. That's when Teresa reminds him that it's the 21st century.

Alejandro has seemed to me such a slimeball that I was somewhat surprised to see how much he apparently does care for Danilo. He went berserk when Cristián described Danilo as collateral damage, insists that Danilo not be hurt, and tries to get Teresa and Epifanio to release Danilo.

I don't know what's going to happen to Ale, but I noticed that before he entered the building where he was supposed to meet Epifanio, there was a sign that seemed to indicate that there were cameras recording people's presence. I wondered at the time whether that might prove to be Ale's undoing. (Then again, I'm not even sure that that was what the sign was indicating.)

Thanks for noting the sign on the prison wall. I totally missed seeing that.

I'm still a bit confused about the troops that wound up killing Zurdo and his men. Earlier, you described Jonathan and "his parade of DEA vehicles," but why would the DEA have anything to do with Jonathan, who I thought had been deemed a traitor by Sheldon? And later, Cristián arrives at the dry cleaners with a bunch of heavily armed DEA guys. Huh? Your recap helped me understand why Cristián and the DEA went to the dry cleaners, but how could he and Jonathan have separate troops of DEA agents at their behest?

Finally, I loved Cayetana's carefully constructed account of her killing Juan. And she thinks fast on her feet. When she's told that there's a witness who described a young woman dressed in black, Cayetana quickly accounted for that. Smart lady. But I still suspect she's not long for this world.

Again, MANY THANKS, Jarifa, for all your wonderful recaps and comments. I hope you may decide to return to Telemundo. You'll always be welcome!

Juanita , the “Jonathan” might have been a mistake on my part. Thinking back it probably should have been Cristián. Thanks. That is what makes watching these with a group so much the better. : )

La Reina 2

yes, Jarifa, what magnificent recaps you write, they are always a pleasure to read.

8 o'clock, when the prison break would take place, when Teresa insisted on meeting Ale, and when she had Epi insist on meeting Ale, so conflicted and Ale is going nuts, intriguing scenes with Cristian, always the mirror in the shots with one or the other in it, Ale insists Cristian take Teresa alive because he wants to be the one to do her in.

I don't know if I like Michele, as a kept man, I want to see some sparkle in those eyes, he has been tormented to long, interesting seeing his ears perk up listening to Teresa's relationship to Pati.

I wish Cayetana didn't have to lie, the truth would have been fine, that Juan attacked the girls and lost his balance, maybe the witness girl could tell the truth.

I'm looking forward to the sisters being brought together, thinking Caye will be there too, to forgive Paloma and Rocio, and probably Faustino as well, and maybe Teresa.

interesting that the original Kaplan got away free with no attempt made to bring him back to Mexico.

ah Zurdo, you could have at least got some bullets into Cristian.

drink up Ale, (my guess)

La Reina 2

ah yes, so Teresa set things up so Danilo could see Ale didn't go to meet with Teresa and rescue Danilo at the other address, but came here to meet with Epi.

reina-sur2

deb, thanks very much for the fascinating details about David Kaplan! It's interesting and impressive that the writers have incorporated relevant aspects of history (Kaplan) and culture (the books that Jarifa identified in an earlier episode).

Jarifa, many thanks for the follow-up about Jonathan and Cristián.

Reina 2

Jarifa, thank you for another amazing recap and for all your recaps and comments for Reina 2. Enjoy your well deserved break.

Juanita I was glad Teresa spoke of Patty. She was a favorite of mine in Reina 1. So in a way she was able to play a small part in Reina 2. I also think there was a message for Lupo/Michele in what Teresa said. Uh, oh, is she setting him up?

The writers are working overtime to convince me that Teresa will kill or send someone to kill Michele--Sofia's nightmare, the convo with Danilo, the wake up sex scene--to name a few. I get it's important to the legend that Teresa remain single but how cruel to do this to Sofia.

Ale tried in vain to keep his secret. Epi's response to finding out, including insulting slang, was priceless. What a humiliation for Ale. Michele said that's not the only secret your campaign manager has. I'm not clear on what that might be.

How nice they quickly tied up two loose ends. Zurdo's Teresa obsession is an example of a love that kills. And how about that prison escape? Ripped from the headlines. Thanks, deb, you saved me research on David Kaplan.

I can't warm up to Cayetana but for the sake of her grandchildren and great grand child I hope she survives a while longer.

Maybe they can tie it all up on Monday. But you never know. I didn't think we'd get Reina 2. I would hope this doesn't turn into a disaster like ESDLC. A poster (sorry can't remember who) referred to that as Senor de los Depends. I laughed so hard at that. As much as I love Teresa and Co, it's better to leave 'em wanting more as the saying goes.

deb, thanks for reminding me about the Polonium. I wondered why the DEA would use it. That's a Russian thing and causes a most unnatural, horrible death. Perhaps the US wants the Russians to take the blame for this election interference plot.

Thank you, Jarifa.

That was an awfully bad luck for Zurdo to show up in the dry-cleaners at the same time Teresa sent DEA troops there. Because I don't remember Teresa luring him there. He just decided himself to go look for her, and at exactly fateful 8:00am.

Teresa has a history of forgiving. Remember Pote, he tried to kill her several times, but was forgiven and eventually became her most trusted guard. The same thing is happening with Michele. Maybe Sofía's wish will come true - having Lupo as a father.

I wonder if Epifanio will feed the Polonium to Alejandro. Or will it take too long? Just shoot him.

YES! I wish I could remember the poster who made the great "Depends" comment. Let me just say that I too am hoping that Telemundo will realize the wisdom of what you say:
"it's better to leave 'em wanting more as the saying goes."

LA REINA

I just got back from shopping and symbols of this show were following me around. LOL At the local grocery store I spied a candle dedicated to Jesús Malverde on the shelf with the rest of the religious candle offerings.

I know I mentioned it before but Teresa is so cold, cut and dried in this last part of the novela. You can really see a new level of maturity in her professionally/personally but also many similarities between her and the criminals she deals with. Everything is relative, isn’t it? I thought of this as she was informing Danilo all about Alejandro.

Seeing El Zurdo going to attack Teresa was a trip as he was limping along with a crutch dedicated to revenge. It wasn’t surprising and they gave him a good dramatic and colorful ending.

It looks like Cayetana is finally turning her life around by freeing her granddaughters from the legal system and thereby giving them a path home. I would doubt she would be jailed for long if at all with the situation she described and the aftermath with the attack at her home and the death of Charo.

I so hope that Alejandro gets a taste of the flavorless polonium.

deb yes! If only El Zurdo could have gotten some bullets in Cristián. The shootout was sort of depressing with El Zurdo’s gang being so outnumbered and outclassed by Cristián’s force. Thank you, also for the info on polonium. I have learned a lot in this novela.

dondi356, I wanted to cringe for Michele when Teresa was recounting the Patty situation and all of its implications. Will Michele ever be able to “pay enough” for his role in the kidnapping? The sex scene was nice but it might end up meaning absolutely nothing. I am a firm believer in the “leaving them wanting more” philosophy.

Lucio, I sure hope Sofía ends up with Michele as a father at the end of this. Thanks for reminding us of Teresa’s forgiving nature. As a matter of fact, Epifanio is still around!!!! I could live with Epifanio just shooting Alejandro.

reina-sur2

Wow, what a busy morning and afternoon here. Nearly everything has been said. And I've run out of adjectives to describe your recaps, Jarifa! They are simply amazing.

Most of my insights are already here. But, while I don't enjoy people being gunned down, I thought Teresa's brilliant move of working with Epifanio resulted in a very satisfying end for some cruel narcos. Teresa and Epifanio agreed to give that half-hour-before location in which Ale would supposedly meet Teresa. That was the Laundromat. Teresa couldn't know that Zurdo and gang would decide Teresa would return there again after leaving the tracking device and a note. So a big enemy is the collateral damage the DEA was referring to. I suspect the DEA was just supposed to find no one there.

I, for one, was fooled about Epifanio's being in on it. I thought he was really going to meet Alejandro.

Then Ale reveals he wants to take out Epifanio and be loyal to his DEA masters more than he wants to save Danilo in person. So he goes to meet Epifanio instead. Bullseye! As Teresa said before to Danilo: ya te caiste el veinte. Alejandro realizes that Epifanio has played him. I am also suspecting a forced ingestion of polonium so Bebita would never know how her brother died.

I was quite surprised Teresa and Michele had sex. But...look at the guy! Who could resist.

It was just an amazing story arc and very well played by all. I enjoyed the scene afterwards where they showed how they filmed it, with the Zurdo actor grinning into the screen with all those red tags on him that supposedly exploded with blood somehow.

REINA

novelera, yes! The actor playing Michele is definitely a cutie. I enjoyed the behind the scenes with the “Zurdo” character, too. I am looking forward to the Tuesday special.

Kate Del Castillo

Kate is currently performing Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theater (West Village) in The Way She Spoke. It's a one-woman show. They have been running frequent commercials for it on my local Telemundo station. The show opened July 18 and closes August 18.

Interesting note: Kate and Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera were in town at the same time--the show was in previews while El Chapo was here in federal court for sentencing.

Audible has plans to record the production for release on audio.

I have not heard if there are plans to perform this in other cities.

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Jarifa. Good to the last drop. I especially appreciate the clarity on what Alejandro and Epifanio said at the meetup and Teresa's reminiscing about Patty to Danilo.

Reina 2 wasn't padded with flashbacks - I don't recall a single one. It stands firmly on its on. But I could've used a little refresher on the killing of Batman's family. I remember Ratas resenting that Batman was Epi's No. 2 and raping Batman's wife and he and his henchmen killing the whole family, but I don't remember Epi being in on this plan.

Silly observation, none of the dry cleaning seemed to get damaged during the gunfight.

Goofy sweet of Godoy grabbing wildflowers from the ground to hand to Rocio. Can he really go straight? He enjoys the outlaw life. Very convenient that the old prisoner was passing by and knew about Kaplan escape almost 50 years ago.

Can't believe this will all wrap up Monday.

REINA

dondi356 and deb, thanks for the Kate del Castillo info.

Niecie, I also wonder about Godoy and his ability to play it straight(er.) I can’t believe it is going to be over already tomorrow, either. The special on Tuesday will help with my “Reina” withdrawal. ; )

It was fun recapping this novela! Thanks to everyone for the great comments and observations!

reina-sur2

blockhead, many thanks for your great recaps. I'm hoping perhaps you'll be here for Preso No. 1, which is said to be from the producers of La Reina del Sur. Though I'm not happy about a 10 pm time slot, I've been very impressed with both Reina 1 and Reina 2, so I'm going to give Preso a try.

sorta reina-sur2

I had a fantasy of hearing Faustino Sánchez-Godoy in his paisa Colombian accent cheering and sending his very best wishes to his countryman the Colombian, Bernal, who won the Tour de France.

Not sure I’ll watch Preso no. 1 but I’ll be watching the Selena novela coming up next month!

A huge THANK YOU to all the recappers for Reina, you've all done a fantastic job and made the show so much more fun to watch! Thanks to everyone who has commented too. Really love hearing all the insights and reactions. So sorry to see this TN end!
