Mateo is eager to show his loyalty to Ubaldo by fulfilling the mission of separating Ari and Temo.Ubaldo hopes so because anyone who betrays him simply disappears from his life.
Polita, little Arqui, Ari and Temo all sit down and have a nice family discussion over a delicious meal prepared by Eduardo. The adults make a point of telling Ari and Temo that they are there for them. Ari teases Eduardo about his enchiladas and Temo gets a phone call from Diego who has decided to have a party in their apartment tonight to welcome everyone. We see him making the punch and spiking it.
Ubaldo meets with Carlota. He looks ready for some intimate activity. No matter how busy he is, he will always be able to make some space for her. She tells him she’s been nauseous. He hope she isn’t going to tell him that she is pregnant. She blames it on being around there and remembering her brother Andrés. She asks Ubaldo to tell her more stories about her brother when he worked for him. Ubaldo tells her what he has told her before. He describes Andrés as a good student who was very efficient at his job. He loved him like a son. Ubaldo can’t keep his hands off of her.
Ari and Temo are on the street and Ari wants to know what is wrong. Temo tells him how Isarnio called him “a little flower” . Ari is angry when he hears that Temo azures him that he defended himself even though he had to raise his voice. He asks Ari to calm down. Temo goes on to add that Mateo went right along with it and to,d him crying was for the weak. Ari is even more angry now and wants to take care of that Mateo kid. Temo reminds him that violence is no the answer and that he needs to calm down. Ari cannot take them offending Temo.
Oleg stops by the house to talk, to Elsa some more about what he proposed at the restaurant. He really wants to get back with her. Elsa has to work but reminds him that he left her alone with their daughter when Andrés died. Only a coward does that. Oleg accepts that and apologizes. Elsa says that is an example of how different they are. She stays and fights and he is a runner. He admits that is how he deals with pain but that doesn’t mean that Andres’s death meant nothing to him. He also had to put up with her criticizing him as if she were the only one that was hurting. The pain will always remain. Elsa says he can see Carlota as much as he wants but she has no interest in getting back with him. Oleg makes it clear he will fight to get her back.
Ari tells Temo that he will pay Mateo back. Temo asks him to calm down before they go into the apartment. Temo says he can take care of himself and that Ari needs to trust him. As they hug, Dora and Nora come out and tells them there is to be none of that sinful behavior outside of her home. Temo greets her and says they are going inside. She asks why they aren’t complaining about what she said. Temo explains that meeting violence with violence never helps anything. Temo adds that he and Temo are going to prove to her through their actions that she is wrong about them. Nora is proud of the boys.
Dora goes to her room and looks at the pair of pants she bought, places them in a gift box and puts it away in a drawer. She hears a little boy giggling in her mind. Nora dances in a new blouse by herself to a Strauss waltz in her room.
Ari and Temo enter their apartment and the music is playing loud and Diego is ready to party. Diego insists it is going to be a small party. No, he hasn’t talked to Carlota. He offers the boys some spiked punch. They aren’t drinking. It is clear he has been enjoying it already. He has also invited some well built guy “ Bernardo”that he met on the internet. They talked all of 15 minutes.
Ubaldo is still trying to get intimate with Carlota. He says the only way to relieve his stress is being with her. It looks like he is going to get lucky.
In the meantime, Soledad has prepared a dinner for her and Ubaldo but she is the only one there to eat it.
The party is on. There are way too many people. Diego tells Temo Ot to worry as he has more punch. Ari is afraid that Dora will use this as an excuse to throw them out. Diego is not worried. The doorbell rings and it is Bernardo. Diego is totally taken by the sight of him.
Elsa thinks back to a conversation she had with Andrés. He criticized her for treating him and Carlota like children and being so hard on them; he and Carlota were good kids. He reminded her they were her children and not her students. He also told her he didn’t want to work with Ubaldo and her and that times had changed since she grew up. She told him he was the best for the job and not to fail her. Andrés was tired of her telling him not to fail her. Elsa suddenly realizes that she failed Andrés. She cries.
The party in full swing when Carlota comes home. She thought it was supposed to be a small party. Temo and Ari are not happy. Bernardo is on top of a table dancing as the partygoers chant along to the beat. Temo wonders if they will all leave if he turns out the lights. Carlota doesn’t think so.
Later, Soledad is all alone in her bed when Ubaldo finally arrives. He happily sits down at the table and enjoys the food all by himself with a glass of wine. Soledad thinks back to what Polita said earlier about moving ahead and deserving love and respect.
Surprise! Another partygoer arrives. It is Mateo. Ari tells him to leave. He doesn’t want him in his home. Mateo asks the “small town boy” if he is going to throw him out. At the same time, Dora hears the ruckus though the walls on one side as Polita and Eduardo iron and mend with the ruckus in the background on the other side. Polita talks about auditing some classes at the university. She diesn’t Have to time or money to get a university education. The only problem is she would be at the same university as Ari.
Ari and Mateo are in each other’s faces as Ari says he didn’t invite Mateo. A drunk Diego says he must have seen the invitation on his Facebook page. Mateo says he just wanted to see where that little princess Temo lived. A crowd gathers around the two of them and Ari starts to lose it. He starts to taunt that crybaby Temo. Temo says Mateo just proves how insecure he is by needing to humiliate everyone around him. He pities him for that. Mateo pushes Temo and punches Ari. Ari punches back and the fight is on. Some guys finally separate them and the next thing they know Dora is in the apartment asking what is going on.
Diego jumps into Bernardo’s arms. Dora tells Carlota that these kinds of things are not allowed in her building. She tells Bernardo to put Diego down. She calls Diego an embarrassment to the whole family being falling down drunk as he is. She next ask Carlota to throw Ari, Tom and Diego out.
Eduardo really cannot see it being a problem with Polita being at the same university. She is a woman who just wants to get ahead. He and Polita are happy to be a family even though they are not married yet.
Dora throws all of the partygoers out and tells them to take their garbage with them before she calls the police.Mateo threatens Ari as he leaves. Carlota assures her this will never happen again. Dora says it won’t Because the three boys are going. She would throw Carlota out too but she is friends with her mother. Temo tries to explain that Ari was just trying to defend himself. Dora says so much for Temo saying they were going to be defined by their actions. He and Ari are not only abnormal but are violent, too.
Polita comes by to see what happened..She is shocked by Ari’s bloody face. She takes the boys to her place.
Dora goes home and looks for the list of regulations. This is not going unpunished. She tells Nora that Ubaldo is going to find out that his son got drunk.
Ubaldo is still drinking at the table when Soledad comes out to talk to him. She tells him she wanted to eat with him but he arrived so late. He makes a point of being pleasant and thanking her for making his favorite dish. It was really delicious. He says it must be because she had another surgery and he didn’t notice. She says no and admits that she realized too late after all of her surgeries that he wasn’t going to be attracted to her like before. With a smile, he tells her not to feel bad because she can buy whatever products she wants from France. He gets a call from Dora about Diego being drunk.
Polita lectures all three boys. Carlota is there too. As she puts a steak on Ari’s face, she isn’t pleased he resorted to violence. Ari asks what was he to do after Mateo punched him. Temo says he didn’t have to turn it into a real beating. Polita will talk to Dora to see if she will let them stay. Ubaldo arrives with Soledad. He furiously grabs Diego by the collar and shouts in his face. He allowed him to move in with his friends to be more independent and this is what he ends up doing. He trusted Diego. He finally lets him go. Diego explains it was a welcome party and he drank too much. Since Diego needs more help than they thought, he can come home and live with them. Diego doesn’t want to go back to that sad house. He needs to be with his friends.
Oleg has snuck into his house to leave a surprise gift for Elsa. She thinks he is an intruder and hits him in the head with a book. He brought her a surprise for tomorrow. She tells him to go and never come back. He hopes she likes the gift. After he leaves, sje opens the hat box which is stuffed with fresh roses. She loves it. What to do?
Dora sends out a text message. The women’s group needs to meet. It is urgent.
Polita asks Ubaldo to allow Diego to stay. She will watch the boys more closely. He sarcastically says she hasn’t been watching so closely up to now with what happened. Ari says he, Temo, Diego and Carlota are a great team. Ubaldo agrees if he is talking about creating disasters. Carlota agrees that the party got out of control but she will be in charge of the group from now on. Ubaldo gives in but warns them if there is any kind of problem, Diego will be back in his home.
Polita says the only problem now is dealing with Dora. Ubaldo says that he will take care of his sister.
Ubaldo goes to see Dora and overrules her. He sees the other three kids as a good influence on Diego. Dora immediately refers to their “preferences” . Nora calls Dora a homophobe but in this case they have to support their own nephew. Isn’t she the one who says the family is the most important thing?
Ubaldo informs them that Diego is dealing with depression and he doesn’t want to see that get any worse. As Dora starts to complain about Ari and Temo, Ubaldo loses his temper and tells her that he is not asking her to let Diego live there with his friends, he is telling her how it is going to be. Has she forgotten that he owns the apartment building? He just came by to inform what was happening.
Soledad and Polita lecture Diego about the dangers of a few drinks.
Temo and Ari talk. Ari is worried about Mateo being a real enemy they are going to have to deal with. Temo reminds him they are together an will overcome everything together.
Dora, Nora, Elsa and Soledad meet and discuss their problems. It sounds like Elsa and Soledad want Dora to keep an eye on the kids. Dora is not into being a babysitter at her age.Elsa knows that Carlota doesn’t want to live at home and she works. Well, Dora says she works, too.Soledad is worried about Diego getting out of control and Ubaldo distancing himself from her. Nora thinks Ubaldo is very complicated and she doesn’t know how Soledad has put up with him all of these years. Soledad loves Ubaldo.Elsa says love is not enough. Dignity has to come first. Loving yourself is the most important. Nora agrees.Dora cannot understand the whole “mother “ thing since that was taken from her. Soledad tries to console her by saying she will be helping them out with their children. Soldad also knows that Dora doesn’t care for Diego, but he loves her. Dora agrees help out with the kids but she isn’t promising them anything. Elsa tells them that Oleg wants to get back with her. It is as if her feelings for him are asleep. Nora tells her to wake them up.She has to admit she would love to have her family back.
The boys and Carlota share a pizza and are happy to have their group back together. The doorbell rings and it is Elsa checking on Carlota to see if it had all calmed down. She kisses her daughter on the head and tells her she can count on her for anything she needs. She loves her. Carlota happily thanks her for coming. She loves her mom, too.
Polita wonders when to tell Ari she will be at the same university.
Carlota tells Ari that he has been served with a lawsuit that has been filed by Mateo against Ari for the injuries he caused him. Temo is upset and wonders if that guy will ever leave him in peace. She suggests that they let Ubaldo handle it. Ari doesn’t trust Ubaldo after what she told him. Temo hears that and wants to know why he doesn’t trust him. What did Carlota tell him? Temo asks Ari if he trusts him. Ari Is stuck in a difficult situation.

(The Real) Ep 67: Part 1 Makeups, Shakeups, and Planning for a Faceup
Irma is at her home singing when her drunk father mocks her and demands that she give him something to eat. When he wonders what her mother would say about her singing, Irma thinks her mother would be very proud of her since she is doing what she loves. They argue about how her mother never questions him and did everything he wanted, including working at something she didn’t like. When the father suggests that Irma go find a decent job, Irma gets fed up with him for putting her down and telling her what to do. The father retorts that if she doesn’t like it, she should leave his house…so she does.
At the hospital, Juanjo and Contreras are walking toward Yameli’s room as Juanjo talks to Erick and gives him an update on Yameli. When they reach Yameli’s room, the guard tells them that Yameli is with her attorney; so Contreras goes in first. He tells Yamli that he just came to see how she was progressing and to make sure that she was recovering (…and nothing about the attack??). After he leaves, Jack and Yameli chat. He tells her that there is a national uproar…there are many people who support her. Yameli comments that she is mentally exhausted; she doesn’t understand why she has had to live through so much. Just then, Juanjo enters so Jack suggests that they let Yameli rest, but Juanjo wants Yameli to make the decision of whether he should stay. After Jack leaves, Yameli admits that Jack got her the attorney. Juanjo questions what Jack means to Yameli, so Yameli tells him that they are very good friends. Juanjo wonders if Jack is a friend in the same way that he is a friend. After Juanjo kisses her...and they kiss some more, Yameli assures him that Jack is not a friend in the way Juanjo is her friend. Yameli then asks about Wendy and congratulates Juanjo since he will be a father. When Juanjo asks if they found out what happened at the prison, Yameli replies that they are calling it an “in-house fight.” Juanjo is dismayed since they know someone paid the women to kill Yameli…and he is sure it was Charly. Juanjo thinks it’s time people find out everything that Charly has done…and everything that she has lived through because of Charly.
At Luxor, Charly is stressing about where he will get money when Axle enters and tells him that the engineer is waiting on him. As they leave. Charly mentions that he has already made plans for the song with DJ Mike. When Axel asks if Charly told Mike that the song was his, Charly avoids the question and tells Axel that they will talk later.
At Charly’s place, Vanesa thanks Lidia for being there for her. When Lidia suggests that Vanessa call one of her friends, like Serg, so that she can go out, Vanessa agrees that she will call her boyfriend…Serg. Lidia is pleasantly surprised; she thinks Serg is a nice young man.
Irma shows up art Erick’s place and apologizes for everything…and to tell him that she loves him. After she asks Erick to forgive her, Erick invites her in and confides that he hasn’tt been completely honest either… he is the son of Monchis who was a very dangerous criminal. He then tells Irma that she hurt him very much and he doesn’t want to go through that again. When he asks her if she is serious about him, Irma assures him that she loves him very much. Erick loves her too…and they show each other just how much they love each other…in bed.
(The Real) Ep 67: Part 2 Makeups, Shakeups, and Planning for a Faceup
At the Luxor recording room, Axel watches and listens as Charly sings his song. Axel is aghast with the changes Charly has made…he has destroyed his song. Afterwards, Axel goes into Charly’s office, they need to talk…what he has done to the song is terrible. When Charly retorts that he can do whatever he wants to HIS song, Axel reminds him that the song belongs to him. Charly then points out that he bought the song from Axel, but Axel quickly snaps back that he hasn’t paid him; so Charly tells him that he can have his song back…he doesn’t want it. Axel thinks Charly should do whatever he wants because the only thing he is going to accomplish is to become an obsolete artist.
At Erick’s place, Irma has to leave because she has to go home; her father will get upset if she doesn’t return; he may even fall into a depression. When Erick suggests that she not go back because her father only takes advantage of her and insults her, Irma argues that her father takes good care of her…he loves her. Her father becomes a different person when he drinks, but he is actually a good person. Irma thinks that he gets that way because she reminds him of her mother. Erick concedes to let her go, but he wants to go with her so that she can introduce him as her boyfriend. Irma, however, doesn’t think it’s a good time, but she would like to take him to meet her father some other time.
Lidia goes to see Charly at his office. She chides him for drinking too much and not paying enough attention to Vanessa. When she asks why he always fights with Erick, Charly replies that Erick is disloyal, a hypocrite, and a traitor since he signed with Juanjo…and he helped Lari even though Erick wasn’t sure if she had killed his wife or not. When Charly tells her that she is blinded by her favoritism toward Erick, Lidia admits that she has been blind, but only with him…she has had so much trouble accepting all his mistakes. Charly insists that the situation with Erick is not going to change and suggests that Lidia go talk to Erick and take care of him. When Lidia remarks that he should take care of his daughter, Charly won’t allow her to tell him how to raise his daughter. Lidia reminds him that he is all that Vanessa has left…he should stop acting like a 15 year old and snap out of it.
Erick and Yameli talk on the phone. Erick is very happy to hear her voice; he was worried about her. When Yameli tells him that this is going to be over soon since she will be going home, Erick thinks they should celebrate. Yameli will be more than happy to celebrate with just him and Juanjo. Yameli then asks how he is doing, so Erick tells him about getting back together with Irma. When Erick tells her about Charly making it clear that he is not part of his family, Yameli assures him that everything will change radically soon. After they hang up, Yameli sings “Deprador” as she recalls various situations with Charly and others. Meanwhile, Charly is drinking himself to a stupor as he recalls events related to Diana’s death…and Yameli threatening that he is next to go down.
At a club, Axel tells his girlfriend that he is fed up with Charly. He has put up with Charly for a long time and Charly just goes too far. Axel then complains about Charly changing his song and not paying him enough for it. He comments that if he were to start talking about everything he knows, Charly’s “flow” would end.
(The Real) Ep 67: Part 3 Makeups, Shakeups, and Planning for a Faceup
Next Day—
Jack gives Yameli her release papers. Yameli is glad to go home, but Jack clarifies that though she has been released from prison, the doctor has not given her a medical release. When Jack gives her a notebook to write new songs, Yameli tells him that she will no longer be “Lari;” she is now Yameli.
Charly looks at his bank account and gets frustrated. He calls someone and tells him he needs to see him NOW.
Yameli calls Juanjo and tells him that she has decided to tell Charly who she really is, but she doesn’t think Charly will go visit her; so Juanjo assures her that he will make sure Charly goes to see her. Juanjo then calls Zaria and tells her that Yameli has decided to tell Charly who she really is; Zaria should be at the hospital so that she can record Charly’s reaction.
At Charly’s place, Vanessa asks Charly why he has a gun. When Charly tells her that it’s for protection, Vanessa suggests that he hire more guards, but Charly has no money…well, errr, he has money but he isn’t going to spend it on things like that. Charly then agrees to take the gun elsewhere.
At Irma’s house, her now sober father, who looks clean and humble, brings her some coffee. He doesn’t recall anything of what he told her the day before; so Irma tells him that he needs to stop drinking. When he starts to make excuses, Irma has already heard them several times and reminds him that they only have each other. The father assures Irma that he tries not to drink, but it is very difficult. Irma knows that what happened to her mother made things very difficult, but when she gets paid, she can lend him some money until he gets a job…he just needs to stop drinking.
Erick tells Lidia about getting back together with Irma. Lidia hopes Irma doesn’t do anything else to hurt Erick who confesses that Irma is the love of his life. He then tells Lidia that he is also happy because he’s finally going to see Lareli. When Lidia asks if Lareli knows what happened when Diana was murdered, Erick replies that she doesn’t know and hopes that Toño is caught soon so that he can explain.
At Charly’s house, Vanessa tells Charly that she has a job…in a business owned by her boyfriend, Serg…but she avoids telling him that Serg is Erick’s friend. After Chalry questions her some more about Serg, Vanessa suggests that she make dinner so that she can invite Serg.
Yameli looks at herself in the mirror and cries as she recalls how happy she was when young, going to prison, having her baby, and jogging freely through the streets. Meanwhile, Juanjo goes to see Charly and tells him that he has some information from Lareli, but Charly has nothing to say to that fake. When Juanjo tells him that Lareli has information about who killed his wife, Charly isn’t interested. When Juanjo remarks that he will go talk to Contreras who will be very interested in the information, Charly quickly changes his mind and will follow Juanjo to go see Lareli.
At the hospital, Yameli is still in front of the mirror recalling her past…and that she is a fire mermaid…powerful…and a warrior.
I found last night alternately baffling and disturbing. First of all, when we saw Irma talking to her drunk father outside, I had the feeling she lived in some humble hovel with an out-of-work drunk. But she seems to live in a rather luxurious, sparkling clean home...with an out-of-work drunk. Wow. He must have had a great job before mom died and he went on non-stop benders.
The other scene was in the hospital. Yuck! Sorry, but I will never be on board with the Yameli-Juanjo romance. Was really hoping Jack still had a chance. Pretty much screamed nooooooooooo with every kiss.
And in both cases,Jack and Juanjo, when someone has been knifed to near-death, you do NOT sit on the bed, nor make out passionately. Just. Not. The. Right. Time.
However, your recap was great as always. Smooth flowing. Informative. And a pleasure to read.
Wish the writers had gone another way though. And wish the hair stylists for Juanjo and Erick had gone another way also.
RGV Chick: Loved the recap. Yameli will get her revenge! Go get that jackass girl!
Judy: I'm looking forward to seeing the confrontation between Yameli & Charly.
I'm betting Charly has more scheming plots up his sleeve.
"Makeups, Shakeups, and Planning for a Faceup". Pure perfection.
"At the hospital, Yameli is still in front of the mirror recalling her past…and that she is a fire mermaid…powerful…and a warrior". And so she is.
Rgv Chick, I eagerly absorbed every single word of your sensational recap. Your writing is incomparable and you write with such spirit. And great heart.
"After Juanjo kisses her...and they kiss some more, Yameli assures him that Jack is not a friend in the way Juanjo is her friend". An arrow to the heart.
"Irma argues that her father takes good care of her…he loves her. Her father becomes a different person when he drinks, but he is actually a good person". Huh? No need for me to even begin to think about how this struck me as Judy, your "...when we saw Irma talking to her drunk father outside, I had the feeling she lived in some humble hovel with an out-of-work drunk" said it better than I ever could.
And I was disappointed that Erick and Irma got back together. They just don't fit.
"When Charly tells her that she is blinded by her favoritism toward Erick, Lidia admits that she has been blind, but only with him". I hope that small, dawning knowledge will help Lidia with the heartbreak that is to follow.
I am searching somewhat frantically to find something to celebrate here. Anyone have any idea? I feel empty as though the universe has conspired for very unsatisfying and unfulfilling endings.
We know Charly will end up on jail. Or worse. But where is the pure love without entanglements that I'm yearning for?? Unless there is a nontraditional twist here, something will happen to Wendy to let Yameli and Juanjo be together.
Our beautiful warrior princess cannot end up with someone so stoned faced, dispassionate and even more distressing, sporting the world's worst hair. Huge sigh.
"He comments that if he were to start talking about everything he knows, Charly’s “flow” would end". Please Axel. Charly's end is near. Don't let your own precede it. Ack.
While I am sad about the storyline, I am thrilled about and with your recaps Rgv Chick. Always a joy to read. Gracias amiga.
Diana
Chickie, thank you so much for that excellent recap. A friend called about 9.00 , so I missed half of the episode. recap
I guess a few of us are disappointed that sweet, loyal, supportive Jack seems to have been shoved into Yam's friend zone. Well, just as in most of the sugary sweet Hallmark , the girl goes through her hero's journey before returning to her hometown and married her high school boyfriend. THus, it looks as though it will be juanjo and yam in the end....with Erick and Irma completely that little family unit...and juanjo and Wendy sharing custody of their baby.
Perhaps Charly stealing Axel's song will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.s
I cannot wait to see the look on Charly's face when he finds out the Lari is actually the young girl he betrayed I do many ways. Will Yam also tell him that Erick is actually his son ?
OT...is anyone watching Amor Real? I watch a bit, and it is mostly people staring at each other or off into space as they contemplate....what???
The villainous husband has a constant evil scowl on his face. The heroine looks perpetually wistful \ hopeless\angry. The galan looks permanently pissed\depressed.
Thank you, Rgv Chick.
I was thinking why Yamelí - Juanjo romance is not convincing. And I think it is Juanjo actor. Another actor might have made us believe more in their love. My candidates for Juanjo's role:
Daniel Arenas (Robert in "Mi marido")
José Pablo Minor (Gabriel in "Mi marido")
Osvaldo de León (Alberto in "Sin tu mirada")
Pierre Louis (Axel)
Songs featured this episode:
"Me Interesas" - Axel, Charly
"Enamorándome de ti" - Irma and Eric
Yamelí "Don't call me Lari" getting ready to reveal her identity:
"Depredador"
"Lado oscuro"
"Tienes la fuerza"
"Fénix"
Susanlynn, "it looks as though it will be juanjo and yam in the end....with Erick and Irma completely that little family unit...and juanjo and Wendy sharing custody of their baby" seems spot on! But, but, ??? Just not the ending I wanted.
Lucio, OK, you noted a few of my all time favorite galans. And I totally agree, Mane us no match for Marcelo. Any of your choices are excellent. And I think you hit the nail on the head. I like Mane and I know he can ratchet it up but he's too unemotional here for our firebrand heroine. Thanks for noting the songs.
Diana
Hi Susanlynn. I love seeing your comments too. Like old times on CarayCaray. I'm not watching Amor Eterno. Looks really boring to me. Although I do like the dark, tilted eyes of the actors. Very exotic and attractive.
And speaking of attractive, Juanjo is NOT. Acts more like an amiable, kind-hearted Special Ed student. Which is all well and good, but not as the star galan walking off with the star heroine. The one casting that seems off. Well, two. The gal playing Irma is fabulous with her moves, her hair, and her singing. But she seems way way way too sophisticated and experienced for our little Erick.
Still consider it a good production. The actress playing Diana, and the one playing Caroline the lawyer are both great. Ditto for Detective Mustache. The actor playing Monchis certainly made us believe in his depravity. Pierre Louis as the whipped dog, perfect. And Charly...what can I say? Excellent at portraying charismatic now deteriorating into cataclysmic.
BUT BRING BACK JACK! OR RIZZO. ANYBODY, ANYBODY? CASTING CALL Y'ALL.
I just thought of one of the (other) things I don't like about the Juanjo character. In addition to being too unemotional, he's too laid back.
He's not a supporting character, he is supposed to be THE galan. Contrast his blank stare to Jack's worried and desperate expressions when they first saw Yameli in the hospital.
The younger Juanjo was better cast. Every emotion showed on his face.
This isn't a poker game. 'nuff said.
Diana
I agree with the opinions stated about why Juanjo is lacking in his role as a traditional galan. I am starting to wonder if this is part of a recent trend of the strong woman theme. On thelitforum.com , there have been many conversations about how the tv show Outlander has portrayed the two main characters. Many people think that the show writers are making the main male character Jamie weaker while making the female lead character Claire seem stronger. Do you think that is what has happened in this story? Do you think that viewers don't want a hero..a strong, powerful galan? Has society changed and art is reflecting that change?..women rescuing themselves instead of the male leads rescuing them ? JUanjo certainly doesn't look capable of rescuing himself let alone the love of his life. I agree that he hasn't seemed very worried about Yam as she was carted off to jail and then beaten up. Que the hell, as we on the patio in the way back used to like to say. Strong women..female gaze....is that what is happening in the telenovela world ?
Susanlynn, I've been watching Amor Eterno. It's true that not much happens, but I love to look at it: the people are gorgeous, also the scenery, interiors, clothes. And I like the music and glimpses of a different culture.
Basic plot is Nihan [heroine] and Kemal [galan] fell in mad love at first sight and made plans to marry despite Kemal's being from a humble background. Then, Nihan was forced to marry Emir because Emir had the goods on Nihan's twin brother [Ozan?] for a murder orchestrated by Emir. Nihan's brother also has a chronic medical condition, and Nihan is protective of him. Kemal does not any of this, he believes Nihan married Emir for Emir's money and social standing.
Five years passed while Kemal went off to lick his wounds in the minefields before returning to Istanbul as a respected mining engineer and businessman. All this time, somewhat incredibly, Nihan has been able to resist having sex with Emir. Evil Emir is obsessed with Nihan, and knows/suspects that Nihan is in love with Kemal. As revenge, Emir has managed to turn Kemal's own family against him, in particular Kemal's brother, who works in the family barber shop and who has always resented Kemal. For his part, Kemal has vowed to bring down Emir, and has bested him as his rival in various business and real estate dealings. Nihan is an artist and is working at a foundation connected to Kemal.
So, as you said, Emir is evil, Nihan is wistful because she can't be with her true love, or even tell him the truth about why she married Emir, and Kemal is depressed and angry at Nihan for marrying the rich dude, nasty Emir. If you saw the recent episodes where Nihan and Kemal were stranded at the cabin after car trouble, she came close to telling him the truth about her marriage, but backed off.
One other note: Leyla, Kemal's friend, the tall lady who is always alone in that beautiful house on the hillside, is the estranged sister of Vildan, Nihan's blonde, not-so-nice mother. So Leyla is Nihan's aunt, though Nihan doesn't know this. I think the estrangement between the sisters was related to Nihan's nice father.
SusanIynn, I hope this gives you some sense of what the characters are contemplating as they stare into space! There is more going on, and if you have a specific question, I may be able to answer it. Unfortunately, I am too low tech to be able to comment without using a library computer, so you may have to wait awhile. Happy viewing!
Clara
Clara!!!!! Thank you so much for that wonderful explanation about those looks I have observed . I was trying to figure out who the woman Kemel visited was. Thanks for explaining that she is the estranged sister of Nihan's not-so-nice mother. I figured that Emir had framed Nihan's brother for murdering that girl. And wow, Nihan has not had sex with her husband . I would have thought by his stony, cranky face that he had forced her immediately. It seemed that Kemel was estranged from his family but didn't know why. It was so kind of you to take the time and effort to give me this great recap. Things will make more sense to me now when I watch those faces. P.s. Is one of the dark haired interested in Kemel ? Is Emir's father also evil? It seems that Nihan's father a good guy? Thank you !
Jarifa, the detailing in your superior recap was clearly evident.
You recounted all the events so well. I'm just sorry that all of the events were very painful.
"Dora goes to her room and looks at the pair of pants she bought, places them in a gift box and puts it away in a drawer. She hears a little boy giggling in her mind. Nora dances in a new blouse by herself to a Strauss waltz in her room". Many hidden secrets here.
"Ubaldo is still trying to get intimate with Carlota. He says the only way to relieve his stress is being with her" makes me want to throw up in my mouth a bit..
"In the meantime, Soledad has prepared a dinner for her and Ubaldo but she is the only one there to eat it". Really sad - my heart went out to Soledad.
"He has also invited some well built guy “ Bernardo” that he met on the internet. They talked all of 15 minutes". Poor Diego...
This isn't turning out to be what I'd hoped. I am fine with drama but this is without much light at all. That said, your recap is everything one could hope for. And more.
Thank you Jarifa!
Diana
Jarifa, thank you for explaining everything that was going on last night. Yikes..Ubaldo is creepy awful. Sergio is staying in his familiar lane as a despicable villain codeing up the scenery right out of the gate ! Dora and Nora both seem to have sad, bad secrets in their past that made them the way they are now. I did get one little giggle last night when Elsa was searching for something to bash her intruder on the head. First , she tested the hand mirror out on a chair , but she settled for the bigbook.
I wanted to let everyone know that our dear Rgv Chick is MIA as she is tending to a sick goat. She was able to read and enjoyed all of the comments posted and conveys her thanks and appreciation...
I will be doing tonight's recap. Looks like we are in for a firestorm.
Rgv Chick, continuing to keep you uppermost in thought and prayer.
Diana
Leyla was actually the one who was supposed to marry Nihan's father years ago. She discovered on her wedding day that Vildan had an affair with him, and was pregnant. That is why the sisters are estranged, and to top it off, Nihan's father still loves Leyla.
The spouses don't sleep in the same room, but they live in Nihan's family home, and she still has her childhood room. It was part of the conditions to their marriage. Emir has been obsessed with Nihan since childhood. Her father didn't approve of the marriage, but Vildan, ever ambitious, pushed for it.
Asu is the dark haired lady that works for Kemal. She's in love with him too.
Kemal's siblings envy him, and that ends up taking a toll on him, who doesn't see it coming. He tries to protect them, and doesn't realize he needs protection from them.
Emir's father isn't a good person either. He's egocentric and demeaning to others. It seems he has a strained father-son relationship with Emir too. Emir isn't good enough for him.
This novela is actually very dramatic, but not necessarily to the eye. A lot of it can be missed if you don't pay attention to the dialogue. It's also interesting to note the emphasis on the character's emotions, and how that engulfs their personality.
REINA SOY
Just as everyone seems to dislike Juanjo, Irma is the one who gets on my nerves. She's just not believable and comes off as a user.
JUNTOS
These university kids look so young today. They don't look old enough to be living alone.
Polita seems to still be as annoying as ever.
Span Prof, yes, the eternal ambiguity of “demanda”. I went with lawsuit because the papers Temo was served with had all of that fancy lettering, but who knows? It is a term that always makes you think. I wish someone would “desaparecer a” Ubaldo. Maybe by the end of this if we are lucky.
Diana, it seems there are more serious and distasteful trials and tribulations even in the dramedies these days but “La usurpadora”, starts 9/16 so luckily none of the plots can go on very long. : ) Yes, Ubaldo was totally disgusting talking about relieving his stress. His sitting and enjoying his dinner all by himself was just weird. I felt sorry for Soledad having had plastic surgery just trying to please him. Another low point was finding out that Ubaldo owns the building so Nora and Dora are constantly in his debt. Not good. I have to admit I smiled when Diego jumped into Bernardo’s arms. All of these young actors are excellent.
Susanlynn, that was funny when Elsa was deciding on a head bonker. Oleg lucked out. He could have gotten cut.
I forgot my title on my last post. Still trying to get used to this format.
Anon, the kids are supposed to be seventeen. They do look very young.
Jarifa..Sergio seems to be playing his usual icky , amoral, ruthless villain. I wonder if and when we will see his trademark phone toss?
Anon: Juanjo needs a BIGLY BACKBONE & MAN UP. He should just tell Wendy to shove it, but we all know he won't. I wonder if Wendy is faking the pregnancy ?
Diana: I'm looking forward to seeing your detailed recap. Go Yameli Go!
When the Truth is Found To be Lies And All the Joy Within You Dies (Darby Slick)
Part 1
Happiness forsaken and innocence lost, Yameli lived a despondent life in the shadow of her tragic past. The fear, desperation and pain at her betrayal eventually yielded to anger. Laser focused on revenge and her own brand of justice, little or no one mattered. Finding her loving son alive and well has tempered her thirst for vengeance with a quest that the truth be revealed. After years of planning and waiting for such a moment to arrive, will the truth and its aftermath be anything similar to what she was expecting and yearning for? Will it be warm satisfaction or cold emptiness? And will the revelation strengthen her or shatter her…But first, there is another confrontation to be had. With the father of her child.
A throng cheering for Lari is the backdrop for Zaria’s live report from the hospital. Juanjo is on Charly’s heels as they meet up in the parking lot. Juan Jose Charly taunts his ex-friend. Zaria turns it on asking Charly if he is here to excuse himself for having accused Lari unjustly. The duo heads inside down the hospital corridor, Charly in the lead. Jack is there and if looks could kill. So you’re the one who helped her pull that farce of being a music producer Charly sneers .Juanjo holds Jack back but both men look upset. Charly and Juanjo enter as Lari, hooked up with an IV, stands. She asks Juanjo to leave much to his consternation. Jack is outside and asks unbelievingly you left them alone? Yes Juanjo avers. Jack listens at the door. Yameli coolly tells him you need to know who’s behind all your disasters Not just Monchis, but your record, financial losses, loss of fame. Think Charly. When did things start to wrong for you? I was behind Sara’s video, I found the detective for Diana. And told her to clean out the bank account. Because I know what a shit you are. As she continues, Charly stares and says wow, you are obsessed with me. No, as she stands, I am Yameli. Yameli, Charly states incredulously? Yes, Yameli Montoya. Look at me. Don’t you recognize me? We grew up together in the barrio. Toño killed my parents. And my aunt. Your uncle Monchis was also surprised that I was alive You put me in prison because I saw you shoot someone. And you stole my notebook and passed off my songs as yours. Charly sputters that I swear by my daughter I didn’t want to hurt you. It was all Monchis.
I’ll make sure you lose everything—family, success, everything Yameli promises. His eyes are bugging out of his head, trying unsuccessfully to process what he’s seen and heard. As he leaves, Yameli grabs her stomach and lies down in physical pain and emotional turmoil. Juanjo and Jack come in. Jack runs for a doctor and Juanjo smiles dopily. Charly collapses against a wall as Juanjo comes up behind him, Carlos Cruz he taunts him. Reporters including Zaria are in his face.
Diana and Judy
When the Truth is Found To be Lies And All the Joy Within You Dies (Darby Slick)
Part 2
Lari and Jack are exchanging smiles as they play with her food. Juanjo arrives to spoil the party and Jack leaves. Juanjo tells Yameli about the melee outside of the hospital when Charly left. He asks if she told Charly about Erick. No. She wants to talk to Erick first. He tells Yameli Erick will be happy - he's been looking for you his whole life.
Jack and Juanjo run into each other in the hallway. Jack says I guess we'll be seeing each other a bit more as there are still a few things to wrap up for Lari. They end up shaking hands although Jack stares and looks like he’d rather be doing anything but. Juanjo looks perplexed failing to grasp or accept Jack is in love with Yameli.
Wendy calls and Juanjo tells her he’s with Yameli. She relates the story to mother dearest, who remembers Yameli. Well she is alive and well. Understanding finally dawns.
Tono’s forked tongue slithers as he calls Charly asking where the money is. Charly admits he doesn’t have it and Tono threatens him.. Tono could care less Lari and Yameli are the same person. We later see him kissing some woman’s neck asking her to hide something for him.
Back at Zaria’s, she is showing Juanjo the tape of Charly going after him at the hospital.
Charly transfers money back into the safe. His flashbacks include spewing his lies to Yameli, his treachery with Monchis, sleeping with Yameli, then stealing her music before he leaves. He then recalls stumbling on what he mistook as her shrine to him rather than her revenge board. The full impact of his stupidity thinking she was obsessed with him starts to sink in.

When the Truth is Found To be Lies And All the Joy Within You Dies (Darby Slick)
Part 3
Juanjo enters his ex-house with his soon to be ex-wife. How is Yameli she asks? He tells her she told Charly the truth.
Serge shares with his mother that Charly will never accept him as Van’s novio. His mother disagrees but of course we know better. Van is nervous as well and changes her outfit a dozen times. Charly is getting drunker and drunker. Are you all right Van asks after Charly breaks several glasses. Yes, he says. You look great. He has obviously forgotten the meet the mate dinner date. OK he says I will have some coffee. Better borrow Yameli’s IV you’ll need it.
Juanjo is playing guitar at home for Pati and tells her Yameli is alive and fills her in.
Axel and his girlfriend of the unknown name are having a drink and are interrupted by Charly. It’s urgent he says. Like a good gopher, Axel goes.
Ahh dinner time and Charly, Serge and Van are having dinner on the outside terrace. He asks Serg what he does. Serge says he's a businessman. Charly laughs. How old are you? After learning the details, Charly is not impressed with the merchandise. Or Serge. He learns Serg grew up in the same neighborhood as Charly did Vanesa relates. Charly grows increasingly surly after Serge tells him he met him first at the concert he did with Pez Koi. Now Charly's impatience turns to fury as he realizes Serg is the one who gave Lari refuge. He and that imbecil Erick. Who gave you the right to do that? You say you admire me!? You have no idea who I am. You're not worthy of my daughter.
Serge, very dignified states that Charly doesn’t know him either. I'm honest , hard-working, and I really care for your daughter. Charly’s eyes grow angry and he slams the table. Let’s go Vanesa pleads but Charly orders him out first. Van apologizes and calls Charly an imbecile. She kisses him as Axel comes in. What is it? Yameli Montoya is Lari. They take a trip down memory lane. Charly tells him about Yameli and how she came back to ruin his life. And that she blames Charly for putting her in jail. Vanessa overhears. And is sent to her room.
Yameli is inspired thinking of Erick and starts writing in her songbook.
Night creeps as Tono leaves a bar followed by one of Contreras’ men. Tono slinks back into the sewer where he is hiding as the motorcyclist rides away. Erick gets a call from Yameli. How are you? Good – I have something very important to tell you. We will talk tomorrow at 8 when I can have visitors. Kisses. I love you she says to the silent phone as she lays back in bed beaming happily at the thought of reuniting with her son.
Diana and Judy
Good evening friends.
Judy's kindness and generosity in offering to provide critical vocabulary for tonight's episode was greatly appreciated. Rather than my glossing over what I missed, you now have what was actually said. I cannot thank you enough.
I thought tonight would be the night Yameli told Erick which is why I had written the prologue that way. I had to add the line about confronting Charly first which is what occurred tonight.
Our thoughts are with you Rgv Chick. Again, many thanks to Judy for her time and effort at the end of a long day.
Sleep well all.
Diana
Since Ari is put in the middle between Temo and Carlota, Carlota tells Temo about her relationship with Ubaldo with the condition Temo cannot tell Diego.
Ubaldo holds a press conference at which he introduces his team and Isarnio as a part of his political machine who will make sure the people get the medication and medical care they need. Elsa is taken aback that Ubaldo didn’t consult with her first before including Isarnio.
Temo cannot believe what Carlota is involved in and how she could do that to Soledad. He becomes upset and judgmental.
When Diego leaves the shower and dries off with a towel, he gets bit by a spider that he first thinks is a bat.
Ubaldo tells the press that the health and well being of the public will be his priorities in his campaign. Isarnio can get their meds delivered right to their door.
Carlota tells Ari she cannot tell Temo any more because she needs to get more information if her plan is to succeed. Ari is worried because Temo works for Ubaldo.
Temo helps Diego with his spider bite. He thinks about what Carlota told him. Temo talks about Carlota being the one to kill the spider. Temo tells Diego what it would be like if he could turn into Spider-Man. He wants to be more special like his dad.
Elsa tells Ubaldo she is upset that he didn’t consult with her first about including Isarnio. It doesn’t look right for him to be directly connected with their campaign. Ubaldo makes it clear he will do as he likes. She lectures him on the concept of being a team.
As Dora waits for Nora in the street, little Arqui’s ball hits her. She takes the time to talk to him. His favorite food is alphabet soup and he knows how to write mamá with the letters. Nora watches the two of them. Polita comes out for Arqui. Dora says Arqui is very nice. Nora makes the mistake telling Dora she knows how she feels. Some emptiness can never be filled:since they both had loved ones snatched away from them. Dora says no. Their situations are not at all the same.
Temo tells Ari they cannot go on lying about the Carlota situation. Ari tells him it isn’t their business to get involved in. Ari found out about the situation in the first place when he saw Carlota and Ubaldo kissing. Temo has no idea how he will be able to look Ubaldo in the face. Diego wonders why Temo and Ari looks so serious.
Elsa asks Nora and Dora to help her with a memorial mass for Andrés and also to help her decide where to put his ashes. Dora directly tells her that she cannot help her because Andrés committed suicide. He cannot have a mass. Suicide is a sin that cannot be forgiven.
Ari and Diego and Carlota are doing a group exercise in their communication class. They work in groups of three and comment on the contents of each other’s wallets. Ari gets uncomfortable when he finds a photo of Diego and Temo in Diego’s wallet. He asks Diego why Diego says because Temo is his best friend, why else?
Elsa remembers an argument she had with Andrés when he wanted to go out one night. She told him he never went to parties. He answered that that was one of the reasons he always was alone. He was taking his dad’s car. He told her she couldn’t control everything. She smothered him. She chose a career for him that she liked. He said he wasn’t perfect and was going out to get drunk. She told him if he left, they would never speak again and they never did.
Dora and Nora stop by to drop off a little gift for their little brother ”Ubaldito”. They realize all he does for them and don’t want him to be angry with them. Ubaldo just smiles. The gift is an old family photo. There is one more sister in the photo a “Flora”. It is the only photo of the four of them. Ubaldo comments how everything changed when Flora went away. Dora asks Ubaldo to help her find her son.
Temo, Diego and Ari run into Mateo who wants to see Ari in jail to pay for all of the bruises he gave him. Ari says he can talk to his lawyer because they are going to counter sue him. That is hard for Mateo to believe when Ari doesn’t even have money to pay for the bus. He tells Temo to save his tears for when he has to pay for Ari’s bail.
After Mateo leaves, Polita appears at the university to let Ari know that she will be auditing classes at the same university.
Thiago, the musician and internet influencer, is at campaign headquarters. Carlota is with him getting ready to shoot a video spot with him. She knows of him but does not follow him online. As she is getting all of the equipment ready, Thiago decides to help her and they both experience an electrical shock that knocks them onto the floor. Elsa and Ubaldo find them. Carlota is unconscious.
Ari doesn’t know what to say to his mother. He isn’t mad but she first she moved in next door in the same building and now she is going to the same university. Polita tries to explain she is trying to improve for her family’s sake so she can get a better job.
As Elsa tries to awaken Carlota, Ubaldo calls for an ambulance.
Nora doesn’t understand why Dora suddenly wants to to find her son. Dora explains that she accepted her parents’ decision at the time but now she can only wonder what might have been. Seeing Polita with little Arqui brought it all back. She cannot imagine her baby thinking his mother abandoned him.
As the paramedics ready Carlota for transport to the hospital, she regains consciousness. Elsa tells her she has to go to the hospital and acts like a mother trying to calm her down.
Polita talks to Soledad who tells her to put herself in Ari’s place. Polita explains she wants to be the best version of herself for her family.
Soledad asks Polita a very private question. She wants to know how intimacy is with her partner. She goes on to tell Polita about all of the problems she is having with Ubaldo. She doesn’t know what to do to get the passion back. She is afraid he is going to leave her.
Temo arrives with Mateo at Ubaldo’s office to find out that their in studio video plans for today are ruined. Temo has an idea.
Soledad explains that she got married when she was a little older. Now she is afraid Ubaldo will leave her for someone younger. Nothing seems to work and she feels so old. Polita tells her if she never loves and values herself, she will never project that image. Polita admits it wasn’t easy for her but her children made her want to fight. She tells her to trust her heart because “ your heart never makes a mistake” (title of the novela) .
Elsa has left the hospital with Thiago and Carlota. Thiago wants to have a fiend ship with Carlota. She isn't interested in forcing anything. He leaves the scene.Carlota tells her mom she wants to go back to work. Elsa insists on taking her home and taking care of her. Carlota smiles.
Ari is working at the restaurant. He has asked Eduardo to stop on by so he can talk to him about the Mareo situation. His boss will not give him time to talk to Eduardo so Eduardo orders food so they can talk. Ari talks about countersuing Mateo . Eduardo does not think that is a good idea.
Ari has an idea of doing videos with Thiago in certain parts of the city where they need more votes. Ubakdo likes the idea.
Soledad is all concerned about Diego and his spider bite. She dropped by just because she wanted to see him and tell him that her marriage to his father is not working. She doesn’t want him to feel bad. He did what he had to do. She misses him but is happy to see him free. Diego tells her that he was never stupid. When he was at home, he knew she and his dad were pretending that everything was all right. He glue that kept them all together. She reiterates that he is not responsible for anything.
Elsa is having a nice mother/daughter time taking care of Carlota when Ubaldo calls and wants her back at work. When she tells Carlota she has to go, Carlota says she knows work always comes first and the spell is broken.
On his way out, Eduardo tell Ari that his mom is only trying to better herself, not spy on him, He needs to take advantage of the time he has with his mom. Lots of people would love to have a mom like his. Later, Ari and Polita talk, on the phone and he is okay with her at the university.
Temo takes a video of Thiago interviewing potential voters about what their expectations are for the new mayor. Mateo stands and watches.
Oleg stops by and tells a napping that he will always be there for her. An awake Carlota discovers that as a result of the electrical problem, she lost all of her files (investigation information) stored on her laptop.
Mateo barges into Ubaldo’s office. He demands to know if Temo is his favorite. Ubaldo tells him to watch his words because they could be his last. Mateo also knows that he had a similar preference for Andrés Cervantes. Ubaldo tells Mateo there are thousands of people just like him social climbers and opportunists that end up getting crushed in the system. He tells Mateo to disappear and he leaves.
Carlota has a dream where she is on a picnic with her brother in the middle of the forest. She apologizes for having lost all of her investigations. She has tried to get information from Ubaldo. Andrés tells her her heart knows the truth and that will keep her fighting on. She doesn’t want his death to have been in vain. He tells her she is on the right oath but just needs a little help. She wishes this were all real but it isn’t so he has to go and she has to go on living. He kisses her goodbye. She hears a stick break. She looks for Andrés but he is gone. She starts to scream for her brother. She awakens and her dad Oleg is there for her.
Ubaldo remembers. We return to the same scene in the forest but it is different. Andrés is ill and lying on the ground with the picnic items. Ubaldo is pacing and telling him how many plans he had for him but he had to go putting his nose where it didn’t belong. Andrés says Ubaldo was like a father to him but now he wants nothing to do with him. He continues telling Ubaldo he is the worst person in the world. Ubaldo disagrees saying he is the light of the world and continues that even though it hurts him this can only end in one way. Andrés insists that his family knows nothing about anything. Ubaldo knows that and adds Andrés is doing this for his family.. Ubaldo glances off into the distance in Andrés’ direction as if he is giving someone the go ahead and then turns and walks always. The camera follows him as we hear Andrés crying. There is a gun shot and all of the birds scatter.
FIN
Loved the title Diana, and as always, loved your prologue as well. You have a real gift for summing up the themes and tangled human emotions that make up the fabric of these fascinating stories. I thought this was especially well put:
After years of planning and waiting for such a moment to arrive, will the truth and its aftermath be anything similar to what she was expecting and yearning for? Will it be warm satisfaction or cold emptiness? And will the revelation strengthen her or shatter her?
From the beginning, this has been Yameli's story. Not Charly Flow's. So we are all really invested in seeing her strengthened rather than shattered.
We're also invested in seeing the "happily ever after" that is such a perk in these stories, but boy, it's hard for me to get enthused about Juanjo. Even last night, it was Jack who stood just outside the hospital room door, ready to dash in if Charly got violent with Yameli. Comatose Juanjo just ambled out and leaned against a wall much further away.
A galan with a personality just one notch up from narcolepsy isn't exciting. Not for me anyway.
On the other hand, I adore young, dignified little Serg. His answer to Charly's contemptuous, dismissive remarks last night was perfect. And Vanessa seemed to recognize that. She needs a solid guy in her life since her illusions about her father are soon to be shattered. Again, we can only hope this disillusionment will eventually lead to greater strength rather than completely breaking her.
Great job Diana. My part was minimal. No need to thank me. Certainly hoping that Rgv Chick's dear little goat is feeling better and that all is well.
Judy: I enjoyed watching Yameli putting Charly in his place as she lashed out.
Charly knows the walls are closing in fast. He's desperate & big question is whether he goes to prison ?
Diana: I'm looking forward to seeing the look on Dumb Vanessa's face when the truth comes out. Considering Charly was complicit in the death of Diana.
Good morning Judy. Thank you for being my co-pilot last night and providing all the essential dialog which really made the recap.
And yes, "From the beginning, this has been Yameli's story. Not Charly Flow's". But still, I stared a bit because I've gotten so wrapped up in his actions, I've tended to lose sight of the fact that this isn't all about him.
And your savvy observations that Jack was being protective and proactive about Yameli while Juanjo was laid back as usual was spot on.
Serg has always been a man in a boy's body but yes, "answer to Charly's contemptuous, dismissive remarks last night was perfect".
One more thought. For all intents and purposes, Charly's cornered. Backed into a wall with no escape. But still he doesn't stop. No trapped rat he as he continues to look for a way out. There is none, but that still has not dawned.
Rgv Chick, our hearts are with you.
Diana
Jack, Jack, Jack..don't give up ! What was Juanjo thinking when he just causally strolled out of the hospital room leaving Yam alone with Charley? More and more, I am starting to feel that the new telenovelas are embracing the currently popular strong woman theme . I think that the traditional galan is long gone , and now we see the heroine saving herself.
Does anyone else think that the wardrobe department is dressing Jack like an old man ? I don't like the way the writers brought back Jack at the very end to get our hopes up. Boo.
I think that Van will be okay because she now has Serg, a good, faithful, kind, loving boyfriend plus her abuela and half brother(surprise) , and she will also be in Yam and way-too-laid back Juanjo's orbit. Maybe everything got to be too much for juanjohum, and he is on tranquilizers.
How right you are Susanlynn...they wardrobe department is dressing Jack like he's Yameli's granddaddy. That's not how he looked at the beginning of this story. I will never be happy with Sleepy Juanjo for her, but that looks like where we're going. Maybe our limp, listless galan needs thyroid medication.
Susanlynn, your unwavering support and kind words are truly appreciated.
Honestly, I'm not hearing voices, or come to think of it, even one voice in support of Juanjo as end game for Yameli. It's not only the wardrobe as you and Judy rightly pointed out but Jack's showing concern and worry for Yameli that may be working against him. Perhaps the writers are keeping the "I can save my own damn self" theme intact by having Juanjo as the sidekick letting Yameli handling her own business. None of us don't for a moment doubt that she can, but is chivalry dead? Sigh.
The writers are toying with us (I was going to use a different word because I'm so ticked off but restrained myself) in bringing Jack back. If the writers want us to be happy with the ending, they are going to have to pull off a miracle regarding Wendy, the baby and the "limp, listless" (love it Judy) Juanjo.
Diana
Thanks Anon Fri 3pm for adding excellent facts and context, and for answering Susanlynn's questions.
Nihan's pa is a well-meaning guy, good relationship with Nihan, but Nihan's ma Vildan steamrolls him.
Here's a few tidbits from Fri night's episode:
Kemal is softening his attitude toward Nihan not only because she gave him info that allowed Kemal to expose Emir's fraudulent plan against Kemal to Emir's father [the confrontation at the beginning of the epi], but also because it is dawning on Kemal that Nihan is not happily married [duh].
Meanwhile, Evil Emir is going after Kemal's siblings: big check to his brother Tarik to open his own barber shop, in exchange for "loyalty," and flirting with Kemal's sister Zeynep in the car, "just relax and be in the moment."
Near the beginning of the epi, Emir came to Nihan's bedroom seeking a kiss. Vague threat that if he felt rejected, he could/would do harm.
Leyla painting Nihan's portrait on the patio, Leyla was asking Nihan Qs designed to elicit that Nihan's true love is Kemal, not Emir.
Leyla and her estranged sister Vildan on the patio, Vildan threatened Leyla with loss of her home.
The woman who received the photo at her home is Banu, Emir's lover. Photo came with a note something like "Emir is not only the killer of your baby." [In a previous epi, Banu showed Emir a sonogram, and Emir basically said "no way." But I'm not sure what happened here.]
Big final scene in the cable car, Kemal demanded that Nihan tell him WHY she married Emir. If she spills, this is a big reveal.
Susanlynn -- call me delusional, but our galan Kemal reminds me of William Levy! Have you ever thought so?
Clara
Clara, you are the best . I appreciate your explanation of what is happening. Am I correct in thinking that Kemel had the cable car stop by raising his arm? That part when they were stopped and dangling in the cable car made me feel a little dizzy ! it reminded of a scene in the Bond film "License to Kill" starting Timothy dalton.I was wondering who the girl was who received the photo. I did not realize that it was a sonogram . Did Emir make her get an abortion?
Kemel is very tall, dark, and handsome . He doesn't remind me of William Levy .
I wonder what Tono gave that woman. She seemed very lovey dovey with him. What is up with all the scenes on the roofs? I
Does anyone think that Vanessa has an unusual singsong way of talking ?
How much more abuse is Axel going to take before he turns on Charly ?
Thank you, Diana and Judy.
I enjoyed Yamelí's revelation scene. Charly squirming. There was no lying with Yamelí and his attempts looked ridiculous. Charly's past came back staring him in the face. "I’ll make sure you lose everything - family, success, everything Yameli promises." and Charly flees.
Regarding Charly's money problems: Charly was offering someone a 10% discount for his car if bought with cash today. I even think that the guy did agree to buy it and that was the money Charly was putting in the safe. There was a message from Carolina that she had not received her payment.
Toño gave Marlencita a cell phone to hold for him. "What is on it?" she asked. "The less you know the better."
When Charly remembers his history with Yamelí, "Lado oscuro" plays:
♫ Come pay the price for all the wrong you did to me
♫ Slave of your games of power, they make me shudder
♫ Today you will suffer all the pain and I will even make you cry
♫ And you will live to pay this evil
Yamelí explains to him the stalker board, says she admires him and she was listening to his song "Reflejo" 16 years ago…
♫ You are going to cry, let you drown in all this cold
♫ You will beg and you will be sorry
Charly kicks the balcony railing.
Vanesa, of course, didn't know it, but she picked the worst day to present her boyfriend to Charly. And when Charly learned that she met Serg through Eric, and he helped Yamelí hide, it all went downhill. But Serg handled it well and for sure earned points with Vanesa. Which she confirmed with the kiss.
Yamelí writes a new song thinking of Eric "Si te encontré." - "If I found you."
♫ Today I have you and I promise you the heart
♫ I only want to rescue all this love
Episodes ago, Vildan sued Leyla to try and sell the family home. Leyla ended up filing a counterclaim, and Vildan lets Nihan's dad know that she will leave Leyla with nothing. In yesterday's episode, Vildan goes to threaten her sister. Upon arrival she notices Nihan getting into her car and leaving.
I know the question was for Susanlynn, but thank you Clara for bringing up William Levy. I was wondering who Kemal reminded me of, and there is a huge resemblance there. Tastes vary, but Kemal seems better looking to me than William Levy. I've always felt there was something off about Levy for some reason, no matter what novela he's been in. I think its the blonde hair.
REINA SOY
It felt like the big reveal to Charly was a little empty. Maybe Eric's reveal will be better. Still waiting for the big moment. Also waiting for Axel to destroy Charly.
JUNTOS
So it wasn't a suicide? I missed that part.
Anon from 3pm
Anon, thanks for that additional information . Everything is so much clearer to me now that Clara and you have kindly explained what is happening. Kemel is very attractive and so much more so when he is smiling which hasn't been happening much lately. Emir, On the other hand, has a face like a stone. Has he ever smiled ? I
LUcio, thank you for the additional information and giving us the song lyrics which are right on the money tellibg this tale.
Our dear Rgv Chick thanks everyone for their warm wishes and thoughtful prayers.
Rgv Chick has read the comments, calling them a bright light and a welcome distraction. While Star has recovered completely (you were particularly concerned Susanlynn), her little goat Oreo needs her constant care and attention as she is not doing well. While Rgv Chick must tend to her fur family at the moment, she hopes to respond to everyone's kindness and exceptional comments soon.
I know Rgv Chick and Oreo will continue to be uppermost in our thoughts and prayers.
Diana
Lucio, thank you for all the interesting information as well as the song lyrics. You rock.
So, Charly never paid Caro? Not paying your attorney, not the best idea.
If Charly is selling his car, his cash reserves (contrary to what we're seeing in the safe) must be at a very low level.
I'm sort of wondering why he just doesn't run? That would be the cowardly thing to do so, perfectly fitting. Is his ego so massive and obtuse that he actually thinks he can get out of this?? Apparently, he does.
I'm still really curious to see what part if any Axel is going to have in Charly's downfall.
Diana
As to Charly, I think that he is in a panic watching his little, privileged world crumbling, and finding out that Lari is really Yam must have him reeling . It surely looks like the writers are positioning so far loyal puppy Axel into being a part of Charley's ultimate downfall. However, now that the police are following Tono and Tono gave his cellphone to that woman, he will probably play a part, too. I think that since Charly was responsible for Yam spending years enduring prison , it would be poetic justice for him to end up there.
Susanlynn, that's a great question. I think we all hoped for a joyous, mother/son reunion once Yameli imparts the news.
But she has to explain that she was lied to and didn't know of Erick's existence. Knowing he was kept from and deprived of a mother all these years, wouldn't one of his first questions be who is his father?
It's all murky now but Charly's duplicity has to come out and I don't think she can avoid Charly's role in the sordid tale.
Diana
"Now she is afraid Ubaldo will leave her for someone younger. Nothing seems to work and she feels so old. Polita tells her if she never loves and values herself, she will never project that image" was just lovely Jarifa. You write so well!
I was only able to glance up now and then and this seems to be moving at a frenetic pace - to be honest I still don't have all of the women character's names down.
I will say that Polita always was and still in one of my favorite characters. I love both her sons and her new beau. Diego always struck me as a lost soul, adrift. He seems ill coped to deal with life, love and everything in between.
It seems Andres' fate is sadly clear. What a monster Ubaldo is!
I hope I can watch more of this going forward, but am very appreciative of your time and effort Jarifa in relating the many events that occurred.
Diana
Thanks, Jarifa. I missed watching last night. Everything is so unexpected, except for Dora having a son out there somewhere. Wondering if the spider bite signifies something. Will Diego start dreaming he's Spiderman? What could Ubaldo have been up to that drove him to murder Andres? What exactly was in Carlota's computer files? Did she not back them up somewhere? I hope Pancho returns soon. These kids are in over their heads.
"Will Diego start dreaming he's Spiderman?" and "I hope Pancho returns soon. These kids are in over their heads".
Just a few reasons I always love reading your comments Niecie…
Diana
Thanks for stopping by the patio, everyone!
I wonder why Andrés seemed to be ill on the ground. Was he poisoned, too? If he was poisoned and then shot, did anyone do an autopsy? If they didn't then there is the same problem as in MMTMF with Gabriel.
So, Dora, Nora and Ubaldo had a sister Flora. I wonder if we will find out what her story was.
Anon from 3 pm, it seemed to me like Ubaldo was signaling someone else but it was very subtle. I had to rewatch the scene. Only time will tell.
SpanProf, thanks for the info on suicide and the Catholic Church. It would make sense that Dora would be clinging to the old interpretation as you mentioned. Yes, Dora seems to be too old to have a child of Mateo’s age. As you mentioned, we probably know him or will soon. Who else is there whose parentage we know nothing about? Eduardo? Oleg? All of these mysteries . . .
Diana, the writers have done a great job again on this one! Yes, Polita is one of my favorites, too. It is time for her to have an easier life. I am so glad you have been able to join us for this one. When you are recapping, sometimes it is hard to keep up with more than one novela. At least, that is what I have found.
Niecie, I am wondering, too, what Andrés discovered. I hope this doesn’t take a narco-novela turn. “These kids are in over their heads”: so very true. Pancho needs to come for an extended stay. I cannot wait for tomorrow!
We have thunderstorm warnings! Wah! So much for what I had planned for today.
Rgv Chick, I hope your little goat is doing better.
That was a very strange scene of Andres in the woods lying on the picnic tablecloth in pain with Ubaldo standing there. It looked liked he had been poisoned. It was the same place that Caro saw in her dream.
OT...heatwave here...temps will be 90 the next 4 days.
The Pelican State lost a trailblazer & great public servant :(
Good morning all.
I will be recapping Reina this week.
We continue to send Rgv Chick our thoughts and prayers...
Diana
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I usually read the comments on my phone because of the quicker and easier access, but I don't like using my phone to comment so I settle for just the joy of reading the commentary which I find not only a welcome distraction, but so insightful and creative. Most of the time I nod in agreement with your thoughts and opinions...or you give me a new perspective to ponder.
Oreo's condition has not changed, so I am still caring for her constantly. It is not just physically challenging, but emotionally straining, to care for and see in her in such a state. My sincere appreciation to Diana who has been so supportive and generous in taking on Reina during this time when I could not do justice to the episodes. I also want to thank JudyB and Lucio for assisting and providing dialogue and details which are pivotal in describing the events.
Please know that I am continuously checking in on the patio; and though I do not comment, I do read your comments.
Susanlynn, your kindness and concern are deeply appreciated. Your good vibes, along with that of others, help me get through the day. Thank you.
