PRESO NO. 1 – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

We begin with Carmelo showing his leadership skills. He tells the Tapeteños that he regrets the loss of their friends.

Salvador’s doctor wants him to be in the hospital, but he refuses. He takes a call from Carolina in which she tells him about the prison uprising. He tells her there will be a front page story in the paper and the news will be posted everywhere.

A new aide tells President Benito Rivas that Carolina is waiting to see him. She rushes in and asks him if he knows what’s happening at the prison. He’s baffled. She tells him that there is a motín carcelario (prison riot) happening, and they’re shooting at the prisoners.

Piña would like to kill Carmelo, but Ramsés tells Piña there are classes of murderers, and he’s one of the lowest kind.

When Caro tells Benito that Carmelo told her what was going on, he asks Mayorga to come in. He refuses to have her present when he talks matters of state to the guy. When she’s gone Benito tells Mayorga to stand down the offensive against the prisoners.

We see who really runs the prison. Ramsés is to see Carmelo and to have a weapon. [At this point Piña looks like he wishes he was still killing women instead of running a prison.]

Mayorga is defiant and asks Benito if he’s prepared to let those prisoners get away with it. Benito tells him no, but neither is he prepared to let Mayorga do whatever he wants. He goes on to tell Mayorga that he’s not right in the head, a bad guy with a bit of power and a bootlicker. Then Benito has some guards confine Mayorga to his office, incommunicado.

Salvador is on his way to the prison.

Ramsés tells Piña he wants a meeting with Carmelo and two other prisoners. There’s a lot of posturing and not much in the way of results.

Just when we’re really into the prison story…time for another flashback. It’s the presidential debate.

The three candidates are Carmelo Alvarado, a guy named Parra and a guy named Valle. The question is: what should a citizen ask himself before voting? One of the guys starts to read from a list, but Carmelo interrupts. ¿Qué hacemos después de lo que nos han hecho? [What do we do after what they’ve done to us?] Applause!

We see Salvador, watching the debate with Carolina. He calls someone to say that this will be the headline in the morning paper.

One of the other candidates decides to play dirty. He asks Carmelo about his brother who disappeared. Big mistake. Carmelo turns it around, saying that many mothers have disappeared children. Watching the debate, Bautista, Juanito, and Lazcano realize it was stupid of their candidate to even ask the question.

PRESO NO. 1 – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Carmelo is asked how he plans to end corruption. He says he has no plans. The others try to jump on this as evidence of incompetence. But Carmelo says he doesn’t plan to make corruption the first priority. He says his plans are for: nutrition, health, education, and employment. There are too many poor people. He doesn’t plan to have a lot of committees; instead he’ll lock up the corrupt ones.

Back to the present: Caro calls Memo, Salvador’s driver, who tells her he’s brought Salvador to the prison. She says she’s on her way.

Piña has met his match with Salvador. When Piña won’t let him see Carmelo at this hour, Chava reaches for his phone, saying he can only conclude that Carmelo must be dead. Piña realizes what a disaster this would be and folds.

The prisoners, thanks to Carmelo’s calming them, decide to go back inside. Ramsés is waiting there. He says that Carmelo will die like a man of his country – shot. He orders Tuerto to shoot him. But someone shoots the gun out of Tuerto’s hand. [If anyone understood this better than I did, chime in.]

Alone with Carmelo, Ramsés asks Carmelo how the outside world knew that there was a riot. Carmelo admits that he spoke to the press. Ramsés sneers at this and says he spoke with his wife. [By the look on his face, I expect this to be when he tells Carmelo about the rape, but no.] Ramsés then says that it’s true that Tuerto is Evodio, Carmelo’s brother. He points a gun, asking whether he should shoot Evodio first to cause pain or to shoot Carmelo.

Ramsés has a gun at Carmelo’s head when Piña interrupts to take Carmelo to see Salvador.

Carmelo, even in the mess he’s in, is concerned for Chava. Chava tells him there isn’t really any time left for him; this will be his last interview.

Piña now has to deal with Carolina, who’s come to the prison. He tries to bluff her, saying it’s too late for a visit. But she looks him right in the eye and tells him she knows there’s been a riot.

Chava reminds Carmelo of that phrase from the debate: ¿Qué hacemos después de lo que nos han hecho?

Ramsés is talking with Tuerto. He says he remembers a guy who stole the money that his brother sent to their mother in order to put it into the “business”. Voyo, who was shot earlier, looks at Ramsés defiantly and says: “I am Evodio.”

"PRESO":

Novelera: Things are cooking up more spicy!

On President Rivas: is he eligible to seeking a full 6-year term ?

preso

Many thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap of a difficult episode. I especially appreciate your including some Spanish. I understood ¿Qué hacemos después de lo que nos han hecho?, but motín carcelario went by too quickly.

So apparently Benito is cleaning house in the president's office. Carolina mentions Pia Bolaños and one other person, and both of them are no longer working there. That, plus Benito's interaction with Mayorga, indicates that Benito has regained the cojones he seemed to have lost earlier.

I loved your "Just when we’re really into the prison story…time for another flashback." I too felt frustrated at having the scene in the present interrupted. At least there weren't quite so many flashbacks in this episode as there were in some of the previous ones. And this one turned out to be enjoyable. But even so, it wasn't really necessary, since it didn't really tell us anything vital that we didn't already know, and we already have the novela interrupted so often by ads.

I confess that I too found the scene where Ramses orders Tuerto to shoot Carmelo quite confusing. After reading your recap, I went back and looked at that part of the recording. Even then, it seemed a bit unclear, but I think what happened is that Ramses orders Tuerto to kill Carmelo. Eventually Tuerto points his gun at Carmelo, who tells him to shoot. Tuerto keeps pointing it at Carmelo, and then suddenly Ramses shoots Tuerto in the shoulder. Carmelo comes to the injured Tuerto and asks whether he's OK. Ramses orders his men to take Tuerto to the infirmary but to keep an eye on him. As he's leaving for the infirmary, Ramses says accusingly to Tuerto, "You would have killed him, wouldn't you?" Tuerto replies, "You ordered me to." So apparently Ramses staged all this just to torment Carmelo and perhaps to confirm Tuerto's identity. Ramses didn't want him killed quite yet--he wasn't finished cruelly playing with him. Ramses then says to Carmelo, "Tuerto is your brother Evodio." Carmelo tries to deny this, but Ramses is sure. He had been told by Piña that Tuerto killed Tinajas on Carmelo's behalf, and that Tuerto was Evodio. Ramses says that at first he wasn't sure, since he hadn't seen Tuerto as a boy and had thought that his men had killed him. So when Tuerto appeared later as a grown man, it wasn't obvious that he was Carmelo's brother.

Preso

excellent recap novelera! you are so good at this!

I too re-watched the shooting scene, (and thanks Juanita for expanding on that) my guess too was that Ramses shot Tuerto and I think this was confirmed later by Ramses telling Carmelo that he did, but I also saw Tuerto shooting his gun, Ramses shooting Tuerto in the arm or right side, caused the bullet to miss Carmelo, hitting the wall to his right.

interesting game Ramses is playing with Carmelo, apparently it has rules, and loved Ramses earlier comment on classes of killers, as novelera pointed out, Pina being the lowest.

how smart can Pina be leaving Carmelo, Salvador, and Caro alone?

Bautista was the other presidential aide that is gone, and just when Caro finally needs their help.

Mayorga seems to think his bosses will trump the President, like with the other guy.

I was surprised when Caro dumped Sara, will there be a Caro/Ramses faceoff?

the Tepitos demands were about the bomb, who set it off, etc. as to why they stood down, but hearing a possible execution shot, things heated up again.

and Pina keeps adding 20 to his orders, that Sal recognized as "shoot first, questions later".

"PRESO":

Deb: I'm worried Ramses might kill Sara or Carolina if push comes to shove.

Big question is whether there are more co-conspirators out there & how big is the conspiracy ?

el Final

I haven't been able to watch the show till the next day.

quick summary

DEA Osman runs back to town, police car in pursuit, full of lead and gets gun downed again by the police.

Albeiro deals with the news, I'm thinking he does have AIDs but Calvo pays off the testing lab to be sure.

Nachi got a job so will be catching up to CataM who has gone home to model her mom's fashions.

Salvadore is licking his wounds, can't let Hilda see him this way.

new honest DEA Michael Rubens, chief of western U.S. shows up, grumbles about being left out of the loop.

Natalia lays out good reasons for Valeria being a mole, does anyone care?

Diabla gets her second AIDs shot, has Calvo stalking Hilda to make sure things go as planned.

Dayana has some of their local talent after her mother and sister, she wants them dead.

Titi is Vegas bound via Venezuela.

the Hand has las DEAs under constant surveillance, plus snipers on their hotel rooms waiting for the word.

Dayana has arranged to have the underdog boxers trainer give him the XY4 as he steps into the ring, Mariana will set up the tourist as well, Las Babies, las DEAs, and las DEA Michael all arrive separately for the fight.

Paraíso

Thanks, deb. Your quick summary said a lot. I couldn't watch until my lunch hour today.

About Natalia's theory, I care!
She really laid it out point blank to Vanessa and Paola regarding Valeria--She can’t be trusted; did you see how she attacked me? We don't know where she gets her info and she always shows up like she was sent! I’ve always believed that Valeria was a mole!-- I don’t know either if any of this is making an impression on Vanessa or Paola. Catagrande has dismissed Natalia's suspicions in the past episodes. Natalia should be in charge. She’s the one with the brains. But Natalia probably won't be around for very long.

Agent Rubens, do you think there is a conflict of interest since CataG's daughter is in the Babys Cartel?

Albeiro wanders into the totally empty church, I thought that was weird, falls to his knees in front of the altar and speaks out loud. Forgive me. You know who I am. Why is this happening now that Catalina and I have declared our love?

CataG had asked Hilda to contact Albeiro if she feels up to it; there’s something going on with him. Hilda is calling Albeiro but he’s in church and won’t answer. He says not until I do what I have to do. What could that be?

Why do I get the feeling that there’s something going with Catamedia & Nachi? CataM avoided Sandy's and Hilda's questions.

Just wait til Titi gets to Vegas. deb, does he have his disguise in that suitcase?

preso

deb, thanks very much for your great comments about Preso. I didn't see Tuerto fire his gun, but what you say makes good sense. Thanks, too, for explaining "20." And I'd be very surprised if there were not a face-to-face between Caro and Ramses. Not sure when that will happen. Perhaps as soon as tonight, on my watch? (I'll be doing the recap)

el Final

las DEAs are on full alert at the fight, CataG spots Mariana and pursues, catches, and begs to let her help, Mariana pulls a gun, it goes off, CataG is gutshot, dying, or not, her emotional involvement in the case has left her impaired, Mike tracks her down, as do the team, but what about the fight.

Chicano's trainer has slipped him the pill, Cannibal (any relation to that psycho DEA guy from last season) knocks him out, down for the count, but wait, Chicano arises, knocks out Cannibal, but wait, Mari has passed a pill to the tourist in a hot kiss and he was betting on Cannibal, off with the shirt, it's Hulk on Hulk.

Mike and the Team race back to quell the chaos, lined up with guns drawn they insist the fighters stop fighting, what? we hear shots, from where, the fighters drop to the mat, dead?

Hilda spots Calvo stalking her in his taxi (that she bought), she confronts him, he runs her down, almost.

and why is CataM hedging on Nachi talk, and wasn't she preggers last season.

Al writes Hilda a letter, gives it to unconscious Jota (sure to get delivered) but wait, Jota is alive !!! (darn)

Sal calls Al, he needs help, they meet at the clinic and he gets checked out, Al spills that Calvo is a dangerous hit man, but they can't do anything now (Al is going on a trip)

the doc calls Vane, Jota is alive !!! (at least she is happy about it)

Mike is investigating the fight, he has news, CataG is on the way.

the Hand is not trusting las Baby's, Rocco has the next buyer's meet all set, with the "surprise", hmm, the pill price has gone up, only $2 million a pill if you buy a hundred, the buyers are restless.

and Al is going on a trip, with confirmation from the nurse Calvo payed off that he is positivo, to be with the one he loves.

Preso No. 1 - Martes - Parte 1 de 3
Tuerto tells Ramses that yes, he's Carmelo's brother Evodio. He then talks about the past 20 years. We see in a flashback the scene where Concho is ordered to kill Evodio. He pulls a gun on Evodio and tells him he"s been ordered to kill him. Evodio grabs him, they struggle, Concho shoots and may have hit him, but Evodio then shoots Concho and kills him. There's blood around Evodio's right eye, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't how he lost the eye. A little later in his account, he talks about selling marijuana with Galdino Talavia. Apparently Galdino tried to shoot Ramses but hit Evodio instead, and that marked the start of Evodio's working for Ramses. Since Evodio at one point says he lost an eye on behalf of Ramses, I assume it was Galdino's shot that did that.

Ramses tells Evodio that what he can't forgive is Evodio's killing of Tinajas. Evodio explains that Tinajas tried to kill his brother, and he asks Ramses what would he have done. Ramses asks, "If you loved your brother so much, why were you about to kill him?" Evodio replies that he figured that if Carmelo's time was up, he wanted him to die with dignity. He tells Ramses to do what he wants. He (Evodio) should have died years ago.

Some men come to tell Ramses that things are getting out of control. Evodio says there's going to be a bloodbath, and he asks Ramses to let him talk to Carmelo. Give him a chance. He can talk to the rioters and convince them to calm down.

Salvador, who has come to see Carmelo in prison, tells him that legally, Carmelo could retake the presidency. Carmelo accuses him of being unduly optimistic, and says he feels as if he's running out of time. Suddenly Carolina appears. She too has come to see Carmelo. She tells Carmelo and Salvador that she has been to see Piña, and that things are heating up in the prison. Piña was on the phone with people and kept saying all sorts of passwords or numbers. Salvador asks whether he said "20." Yes. Salvador tells them that that may mean "shoot to kill."

Suddenly we get a flashback to two years earlier. The election results are coming in, and Carmelo has finished 4.8 points ahead of his closest rival. He has won the presidency. Much cheering, hugging, and celebrating. "We're going to change Mexico together!" The bad guys are not celebrating. They're talking about Plans B, C, and D.

Back in the present, Caro and Carmelo reminisce about his winning the election, and Caro mentions that she couldn't even hug him that day. "Well, you can hug me now." Carmelo mentions that the guy Sara has been seeing is an assassin. Caro says she knows that, and now so does Sara. Salvador looks at Caro and Carmelo and laughts. "You've never stopped loving each other," he says. It's clear that Salvador is dying. "Hang in there," they urge him. Suddenly, Ramses appears. Caro sees him; he smiles and says her name.

Sara learns that there's a riot at the prison, and that her mother is inside. She wants to go join the crowds at the prison demanding freedom and justice for Carmelo.

Another flashback, this one when Caro told Salvador about being raped and beaten by Ramses.

In the present, Caro says that someone should call Hortensia (Carmelo and Evodio's mother) to tell her that Evodio is alive. Salvador isn't sure that's a good idea. Evodio is alive now, but for how long?

Piña is running around in circles, not sure where to go or how to escape from the rioting prisoners. He opens a cabinet, takes a loaded pistol, re-locks the cabinet, and tries to get a guard to open up the doors. "Protocol, sir," says the guard, and the door stays closed. Piña hides behind a wall as the prisoners come into the room. They force open the cabinet and get the remaining guns.

preso
Preso No. 1 - Martes - Parte 2 de 3

Caro calls Hortensia and tells her that Evodio is with them. Hortensia collapses, and Caro's phone battery dies.

Salvador asks Caro whether she has told Carmelo. Told him what, she asks. You have to tell him, insists Salvador. Now. Well, when we get out of here. Tell him that his buddy raped you. Soon after this, Salvador dies. His insistent plea keeps playing over and over again in Caro's mind for much of the episode.

We see news reporters outside the prison reporting on the crowds cheering Freedom for Carmelo and on whatever is known about what's happening inside.

In President Benito Rivas Macin's office, the president is confronting Colonel Mayorga. "You put Piña in charge," he says to the colonel, "Who is going to answer for this, him or you?" He and the Colonel almost come to blows, In fact, at one point Benito slaps Mayorga and asks "What happened to your loyalty?" The colonel tells him, "You should be glad I don't have a gun." Benito tells a guard, "Give him a gun, and give me one, too. We'll settle this as men of honor." The colonel tells him "I can fix your little riot." Benito replies, "I don't need you. You're useless. I've already given an order."

Among the crowd outside the prison are now Sara, Isabel, Hortensia, and Miranda. We remember Miranda, right? Carmelo's present wife. Even the TV reporter notes that up til now, Miranda hasn't been involved. The girls, Hortensia, and others lock arms and try to force the riot police to let them pass.

Inside the prison, Caro tells Carmelo, "I have something very important to tell you. I'm doing this because I love you. Ramses raped me 23 years ago." [Hmm, if this is what she does because she loves him, what would she do if she hated him?] Not surprisingly, Carmelo is enraged. However, just then, Piña and some guards/federal police? arrive. They tell Caro she can leave, but the prisoners must stay. Piña then orders that Ramses and Carmelo be put in solitary. Carmelo tells Ramses he will kill him.

Outside the prison, a guard or policeman loyal to Carmelo tells Emanuel and Francisco that Caro and Carmelo are safe. He has no information about Salvador.

Sara kicks a policeman. Hortensia faints. She is given oxygen. Emanuel tells a reporter that the dead man carried away in an ambulance is Salvador Fraga.

Carmelo, in solitary, seethes with rage. He wants to see Ramses. Apparently Evodio is in the next cell, because Carmelo tells him that Ramses raped Caro, and he asks Evodio whether he knew this. Evodio swears that he knew nothing. Carmelo bangs on the cell wall. I think a guard says that Carmelo has earned himself another week in solitary.

Caro is talking to another woman, I'm not sure who she is, but Caro tells her "It wasn't the right time, but I had to tell him."

Carmelo thinks about Sara. He may be putting together the timing of the rape and Sara's birth. What he says, however, is simply "My beautiful girl."

Sara tells Isabel she thinks they should have stayed at the prison demonstration and done whatever it takes to free their father.

Pia Bolaños is sitting in Salvador's office. A young woman (Karen?) comes and asks her to leave. Pia asks whether the young woman knows who she is. Yes, and that's all the more reason she's asking her to leave. Pia replies that she could buy the paper or have someone buy it for her.

preso
Preso No. 1 - Martes - Parte 3 de 3

Pedro is upset about his stupid fiancée. She has asked Pedro to buy the paper for her as a wedding present. His son Juanito replies, "From what I remember, you told her that was a possibility." Pedro asks how Juanito knows this. "Pia told me," he replies. "Oh," says Pedro, "It must have been during one of the sessions where the two of you practice mother-son relationships." Pedro then admits that yes, he had told Pia he might buy the paper for her, but it was just to get her to stop bugging him. He refers to Salvador as a sacred cow, and asks "Do you think such a celebrated journalist will be replaced by Pia? She's good for only one thing, and you know well what it is." Juanito tells him, "People say she's a gold digger out for your money, and that you want her as a trophy wife." "But," Juanito warns, "you'll wind up as the trophy."

Juanito then tells his father that Pia is hot and he is old. Unfazed, Pedro replies, "I know what you and my whore fiancée are doing. She's stupid, but you're even more stupid that she is because you fell in love." I could be wrong, but I think Pedro also says something like "You f*ck really well and I like to watch you."

Moving right along...Toño comes to the solitary cell section to talk to Carmelo. Carmelo asks how his brother is. Toño tells him they've already taken him. [I'm not quite sure what that means.] Toño asks how Carmelo is doing. One sign of Carmelo's closeness to Toño and/or his desperation is that he admits, "I'm hanging in there, but I feel lost." Toño says, "I just want you to know I'm here. I know everything. Things are calming down. Carmelo then asks him Consigame una punta. Para cobrar una deuda." These were the last words in the episode, and Telemundo didn't provide captions, so I'm not 100% sure about the first sentence. My guess is that he's asking Toño to get him something sharp (a knife, perhaps?), so he can collect a debt. I assume he's got killing Ramses in mind. All I have in mind at this point is to post this and get to bed.

What a fabulous recap, Juanita. You got all the details and it was like viewing it again!

Yeah, the federal police are always in black riot gear.

Ramsés not only greeted Carolina, he gave her an evil, suggestive smile.

Up to that point Caro was her usual feisty self. Seeing Ramsés appears to have severely rattled her. She gets a bit hysterical about what's happening. I was saying: "Come on, Carolina. You insisted on getting into the prison."

One thing I like about Ramsés is his contempt for Piña. He called him out about hiding somewhere while the riot was going on. And, Juanita, your recap clarified something for me. Because of Piña insisting on the door being opened, despite prison regulations, the prisoners had access to the guns.

I'm sorry. I know it's telenovela testosterone, but Carmelo's reaction to hearing about the rape didn't sit well with me. He gave Caro a cold look that I suppose was meant to say she should have told him long ago. But I get the whiff of that (pick a word for female genitalia) belongs to me and someone else trespassed.

And I also found it unrealistic that he goes right to questioning Sara's parentage. He and Caro were regular lovers at the time IIRC, although she was leaving Chiapas. Can't remember why. So he jumps to the conclusion that a one-time rape might mean he's not the father.

Preso

Juanita your recap read like a transcript. Thank you so much.

Diana was the one who confronted Pia in Chava’s office. She was the new hire that reminded him of the young Caro.

The English caption that came up for “Consigame una punta” was "get me a pick".

Carmelo family and friends were not very smart to instigate a physical confrontation with the riot police outside the prison.

novelera, 23 years ago Caro told Carmelo she was pregnant and wasn’t sure who the father was. He said it’s yours and that’s all I care about. I found that entire conversation unbelievable. Maybe present day Carmelo is about to care.

While Carmelo hasn’t sexually or physically abused women, he has cheated in every relationship he’s had. Why this gives him a moral high ground, I don’t know. He’s not so innocent.

dondi356

Preso

this is a fairly complex story and you put it all together so well, thanks Juanita!

the english caps for your phrase say "I need you to get me a pick so I can get payback".

(say, the Telemundo videos are pretty user friendly these days, you can zoom in on a scene and pause the captions (english or spanish) which have been perfect, and the shows are sometimes posted an hour or so after the west coast showing)

the eye thing was confusing because Tuerto said something like he gave it up for Ramses, but Concho's gun shot definitely did some damage (maybe powder burns) and blacken his eye, but now we have Carmelo walking around with a blacken eye.

and then I think Tuerto said he went up into the hills for three years.

the door thing in the office was odd, I was thinking it was some kind of escape / safe room, the guards were all in there but wouldn't open the door for Pina, and he said the glass was all bullet proof.

yep, a bunch of crazy guys running around a prison with guns and keys to the doors is pretty scary, I thought Tuerto and Ramses went to find Carmelo so he could calm things down.

really liking how Benito is taking on Mayorga, (I hope his daughter is hidden somewhere) and he seems to have replaced his top military guys with people that were loyal to Carmelo.

I'm not a big fan of Carmelo being on a one way street vengeance kick,

"after all they have done to us, what do we do now?"

wow, excellent memory dondi, about the Carmelo/Caro talk 23 years ago.

Paraíso

Thanks for the recap, deb.

Obviously Diabla has her own evil agenda, but she was spot on to tell Catestupida that she was emotionally compromised. You are jeopardizing the mission and yourself. Why don’t her compañeras tell her this? Agent Rubens has proven ineffective on that front as well. Later out on the strip, the DEA "professionals" and Valeria argue over a failed mission.

Interesting, Black Hand’s paranoia. He never shows at public events. We saw what he did to Mendieta. Did he have proof? Anyone who gets close to him and shares in his successes eventually becomes untrustworthy. Apparently, they know too much. He gave a warning to Rocco, too.

I was hoping the XY4 was a cure for Jota.

Anxious for Titi’s debut in Vegas.

MANY THANKS, novelera, dondi356, and deb, for your wonderful comments!

novelera, I totally agree with you about Carmelo's response after Caro tells him about the rape, and also his quickly figuring out that Sara could be Ramses' biological daughter, even though Carmelo and Caro had been having sex considerably more often.

dondi356, thanks for clarifying the name of the person who confronted Pia in Salvador's office. Actually, I had the right person in mind, but the wrong name. Given how often I don't recognize someone, I'll consider that something of a victory. :-) And I had forgotten about Carmelo's statement to Caro years earlier when she told him she wasn't sure who the father was. Thanks so much for bringing that up! And I strongly agree with your questioning Carmelo's right to the moral high ground. Only in this telenovela, filled with such a huge number of scumbags, can Carmelo seem to be so innocent and admirable.

deb, thanks so much for the English captions. That really captures what Carmelo said perfectly. And yes, Tuerto's eye thing was/is confusing. Had he not said that he gave up an eye for Ramses, and had Ramses not seemed to confirm it, I'd have assumed that Tuerto lost the eye in the struggle with Concho. And good point about hoping Benito's daughter is safely hidden away. Both Mayorga and Piña are vicious, vengeful men. Finally, thanks for mentioning the availability of the Telemundo videos, but I find even the 10 pm time slot later than I'd like, especially when I'm recapping.

It sounds as if all of us are finding that Carmelo is losing some of his luster.

..Who the heck will place faith in the judgment of a man dog man dog that has been in manicomo from decades!! WTF!!

and if jota killed her .. so be it and WHEN THE HECK DID THAT ALL GO DOWN???I DONT RECALL THIS CONFRONTATION...

Titi makes the scene... I am so glad he showed up... but I hope he is not the surprise...
Babes have finally realized they are working for the devil and NOW THEY ARE SCARED!!
Diabla is the only one with poise...and common sense... she holds her own nuts, so I don’t believe she is falling for the okeydokey... Black hand is going to keep his promise...porfavor... the man is a demon...

CG is still insisting she can’t control tactical outcomes to the DEA guy…, however ,she swears she has the credits to complete THE MISSION... !! And can handle underworld business, because she has the experience... she is telling the truth! She has seen a lot of action...

Diablo is right ...The DEA IS INEPT…KEYSTONE COPS!! We are home free to raise hell without impediment...

The team refuse to believe Yessica is dirty ,all except Natalia. live .girl please don’t die yet!

Then ,all- hell -broke -loose!! …the writer's brought back CARLOS AND LAURA… with flash backs of how her mother christened her into the sect with a customized protection charm... and the family life of Carlos and her mother... a marriage made in hell

So, my man ,Al is sick...??!! or sick at heart!!no matter the outcome, he is doomed. The doctor/tech is the one that was paid off by Calvo…

When Hilda went to check on jota, she got the letter, and she had to unravel the subtext. the woman is a witch... she sussed -out the vibe , that something is wrong!!

Some things I remember.

Don Toño gets a knife somehow. It's inside a nice looking short baguette. I thought they had awful sliced white bread in prison.

We see Salvador's velorio with lots of grieving dignitaries, including Pedro Islas and Pia.

The young woman who challenged Pia at the newspaper offices turns out to be the granddaughter of the owner of the newspaper. The owner wants Carolina to write a history. Blast, my memory is swiss cheese. The history is either that of Carmelo Alvarado or of Salvador Fraga. Anyone?

Crazy Carlos/Joe is at the velorio sort of hiding behind the entrance area and insists he has to see Sara. To win her over [!] he fires a gun into the ceiling.

We see Miranda's back story. We sort of knew the powers that be arranged an introduction to Carmelo. But she was Lazcano's lover and continues to be after she begins falling in love with Carmelo.

Carolina invites Miranda to come stay in their house. [I'm really happy there's been a redemption for Angélica Celaya's character; she's one of my favorites.]

Ramsés is feeling afraid of Carmelo and asks Tuerto to protect him.

The truly disgusting guards refuse Carmelo's mother entrance to see her son, even after she uses the name Tuerto. They throw his crimes in her face.

Seems like there was a twist of some sort, but it's gone from the memory bank.

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this helpful account of some of the main things that happened last night. I'm especially glad you mentioned the scene between Lazcano and Miranda in one of the few useful flashbacks. He reminds Miranda, who is falling in love with Carmelo, that she's an employee hired to be the bad guys' eyes and ears on what Carmelo is doing and thinking. Lazcano also threatens her by asking her what Carmelo would think if he (Lazcano) told him this was a business deal.

So is Pia in the novela as comic relief? It sure seemed so last night. At one point, I think she berated Pedro for offering his condolences to Caro instead of to her. (Huh?) In another, when Pedro leaves her alone in the car with his driver, she invites the driver to join her in the back seat, and she starts undressing. And a bit later (I think), we learn that Pedro is giving her an island as a wedding present. (She can probably do a lot less harm on an island than she could as owner of the newspaper, the gift she was hoping for.)

The owner of the paper is Belisario Garcia Ponce de Leon. [That's a name to reckon with. We surely haven't seen the last of him.] Someone identifies him and says that the guy hasn't been seen in 10 or 15 years.

Miranda is surprised when Caro invites her to stay with her and the girls (since Miranda can no longer stay in the presidential residence). Miranda says she doesn't understand Caro, and Caro admits that she doesn't understand herself. [Nor do I]

In a flashback, we see Salvador interview Carmelo and then ask him whether his relationship with Miranda is serious. Salvador says he doesn't like Miranda.

At one point (at the wake, I think) Isabel tells Benito that she's going to go on a hunger strike, if need be until she dies, in order to free her father. Benito asks her to come to his office in the morning. She does so. Benito tells her that he, too, wants to see Carmelo free and in the president's chair, again. But it's not so simple. He tells Isabel he needs her help.

I loved it when, having been turned away by the guards at the prison and advised not to advertise that she's the assassin Tuerto's mother, Hortensia walks away proclaiming over and over again "I am Tuerto's mother!"

Preso

thanks so much novelera, and Juanita for a follow up!

let's see what I remember,

Isabel is turning out to be quite the character, when Carmelo became president he invited her to sit in the big chair, he was trying to get her to see she has a whole life ahead of her and to help her get over her sadness concerning a Jaime Bracamontes, later we see him working for the pres and he escorts her to the funeral. (this actor played the son with his unruly hair in a bun on "Silvana Sin Lana")

Isabel and Benito's talk was interesting, Benito admits to being one of the guys who put Carmelo in prison but now he wants to right that wrong, he can't just let him out because there are laws because he wants Carmelo to be president.

and then Carmelo does his rant while Tono tries to plug his ears, Sara was a twin, it's hereditary, Ramses line has a twin, Ramses is Sara's father.

stalker watermelon Joe is sticking pretty close to Sara, trouble is the pres has assigned men to protect Caro and the girls.

preso

Thanks so much, Juanita and deb. I thought I'd just get the party started, but I knew there was so much I'd forgotten.

And, deb, the fact that Ramsés' family has a history of twins was the twist I was trying to remember this morning.

I'll put something up this evening, depending on energy level. I can't decide if my brain cells are failing or if there really are so many more characters in this one that I keep forgetting their names.

preso

One more thing. I'd like to talk to Carmelo and tell him that our family has zero twins as far back as we can remember, but my sister had them.

el Final

Mike has been tracking XY4 and knows some of the ingredients, warns CataG about trusting anyone, she's on it.

Shadow swears his help to Santi, money and connections, wants to know who they are up against, Santi blames his ex-wife.

Al is woozy, drugged? the nurse explains they should do a confirmation test, so much for his trip.

Hilda reads Al's letter, does Jota spill on the AIDs?

Valeria corners CataG as they plot a secret mission, and seal the deal with a handshake, CataG has Deja Vu, or something.

Calvo and Al meet, Al wants his son and the cure in exchange for Hilda, Calvo is interested.

in spooky town they exhume Laura's body, Carlos wants to know who killed his daughter, Jota is having nightmares remembering his escape from her curse, and beating her down with Paola's help, he concludes he needs to be in prison or Laura will come for him.

Natalia gets a call, tells the girls they have a mission.

Hilda calls Al, invites him over for a surprise meet with CataM, a bruised Sal shows instead, an accident, then Al, who CataM blows off as her brother-in-law.

the Hand has his big meet with 2 new players, CataG and Valeria in DEA gear and heels, crawl the ducts above, but now CataG has a gun to her head.

Thank you novelera, Juanita and deb for the recap and comments.

I see the Alvarado/Arteaga gene for risk taking and stubbornness has kicked in with Isabel.

At the wake, Caro’s run in with Pia helped her to make up her mind about taking over for Chava. Montero pressures Caro for an interview about the prison riot. Caro refuses.

Bautista shows up at the funeral home just after Crazy Joe fires his gun. Did he get a glimpse of Joe?

On the ride home from the wake, Pedro suffers a bout of ED in the back seat of the car, blames Pia and slaps her. It would have been funny if he didn’t slap her. As Pedro leaves the car Bautista calls him but Pedro’s too angry to talk. Do you think he’s calling about Crazy Joe? When Bautista enters the room, Caro and Co. ask him to leave and he does.

The next morning, as Caro is boxing up Chava’s personal items in his office, Montero declares his love for her. Dumb move Montero and I think he realized it. On her way out, the paper’s owner asks Caro for a rough draft—about her husband, Preso No. 1. He wants it immediately. Oh, and write a farewell for Chava, too.

novelera, I’m glad Ángelica Celaya is back in the mix. She’s a favorite of mine, too.

Paraíso

Thank you Halimacandy and deb for the recapping and commentary.

I was hoping we were done with the witchcraft garbage. Very disappointed when Jota had visions/dreams about Laura. Is she messing with him from beyond the grave or is she still around as Halimacandy suggested? And now Carlos shows up wanting justice for Laura? At least he’s not barking or biting anyone.

I liked that Rubens was going to teach Catagrande “to doubt” those working for her. Good advice that she will ignore for a long time. There was a glimmer of hope when she shook Valeria’s hand.

LOL’d when Black Hand said the DEA was inept. I think that’s just CataG but the ineptitude is contagious.

Glad the Babys are suspicious of Black Hand. Who will make the first move against the other? Is Black Hand really giving Diabla a cure?

Surprise…Titi’s here and he’s got a plan!!

Now this was truly a group effort recapping last night! Thanks SO much, Dondi, for the ED mention. That was so well done by Arturo Peniche, including adjusting his fly as he got out of the car. That Pia gets around, doesn't she?
