La Usurpadora – La presentación de personajes
Hi fellow Caray Caray folks and TN enthusiasts! I recapped a while back for Tres Veces Ana and decided to come back for La Usurpadora, which premiered today. I will try to post as much on-time as I will be able to. This TN is thankfully short (at 25 episodes). I am excited to dig in and hope you join for the ride. For now, please enjoy this character preview, and hope you thought the Gran Estreno was as explosive as I did!

Paulina Doria (Sandra Echeverria) – Main heroine, who lives in Bogota, Colombia. She is the daughter of a Colombian woman, who a long time ago gave birth to twins, but due to life circumstances could only keep one daughter – Paulina. Paulina is kind and noble. She runs an orphanage and is an activist, working to provide shelter for homeless or abandoned kids. She will be lured to Mexico under false pretenses by her conniving twin sister, who has a sinister plan. That is where our story begins.
Paola Miranda (Sandra Echeverria) - Paola has been adopted at birth by a Mexican couple and seems to have had a good life growing up. Still, she finds out about her origins and is resentful that she was given away. Paola is married to Carlos Bernal, a not very popular Mexican president. She has a daughter with Carlos – Lisette, and is a stepmother to Emilio. Paola is vane, vulgar, even cruel to her family and others at times. She and her husband Carlos have been living separate lives for a while and both have partners outside of marriage. Paola hates being the First Lady and resents her “golden cage”. She has a plan though, involving her newly found twin sister and she will not stop at anything to realize it.
Carlos Bernal (Andres Palacios) - an unpopular President of Mexico and husband to Paola, father to Lisette and Emilio. Carlos does not have the strongest personality and allows himself to be led by the strong women in his life. He tolerates Paola, despite her cruel behavior and outright disdain she sometimes shows him. A large part of it is his political career - he needs to preserve his marriage to keep his approval ratings from sinking any lower. So he is advised anyway by his political assistant Gema Vidal, who is also - incidentally - his lover.
Gema Vidal (Daniela Schmidt) - Gema is an assistant to the President and his lover. She keeps track of his ratings, political moves, PR and in general takes care of everything he needs. She wants more than the position of a mistress, but understands that Carlos needs to keep his marriage intact.
Facundo Nava (Arap Bethke) - Facundo is a former detective, who was stripped of his license and has since retired. He is brought back at Carlos's request to investigate the attempt on Paola's life. Facundo is a no-nonsense guy and a competent detective. He is an old friend of Carlos's and Gema's from the university days. He doesn't trust Paola and sees her for what she is.
Lisette Bernal (Macarena Oz) - Lisette is the daughter of Paola and Carlos. The girl is very kind and sensitive, and also the target of various digs from her mother and half-brother due to being overweight. Paola does not spend much time with her daughter, other than to criticize her.
Emilio Bernal (German Bracco) - Emilio is the son of the President and his first wife, who is deceased. Emilio is not in favor with Paola and, in turn, does not like his stepmother either. Emilio is acting out, since he is getting no attention from his busy father, and drinks to excess.
Arcadia (Ana Bertha Espin) - Paola's adoptive mother and a compulsive gambler. Paola is not a giant fan of her mother's. Arcadia, however, is very happy with her daughter's successful position in life and perks she has because of that.
Olga Doria (Victoria Hernandez) - Paulina's and Paola's biological mother. She lives in Colombia with Paulina and adores her daughter. Olga's health is not in a great shape, so Paulina takes care of her.
Juana (Veronica Teran) - head of house staff at the President's mansion. Juana has served various presidents for many years and enjoys working with the current First Family. She has especial bond with Emilio.
Piedad Mejia (Queta Lavat) - Carlos's mother and matriarch of the family. Piedad has some memory problems and frequently becomes disoriented. Despite the appearances, she is very wise and quick-witted.
Manuel Hernandez (Juan Carlos Barreto) - Paola's assistant, who also does her dirty work. Manuel has been with Paola for many years and is very attached to her. He will do anything she asks.

Just found this after reading your wonderful first recap of the story Ria. Thanks. Loving this so far and at only 25 episodes, I think I will probably enjoy every fast moving minute of it. Great work, thank you.
Thanks everyone. I, too, am encouraged by the short span of this TN, so hopefully things will move at pace here!
Thank you so much for the character sketches, Ria! They made the first episode much more comprehensible!
