DAYTIME TNs (#1): Y Mañana Será Otro Día…Mejor y Mas - Week of Oct. 7, 2019
Part 1
I read an article recently that said judges were more lenient in their sentences in cases heard right after lunch. When heard before lunch, sentencing was much more severe. With that in mind, your fearless experimenter skipped lunch, and had a big meal at 3 pm, complete with dessert. And then settled in to watch this mess of a telenovela in a state of post-prandial bliss.
Guess what? I found it a lot less annoying. So from now on I'll be drugging myself with food before watching.
1. Mauricio is sneaking his computer buddy in to MediaLink to see if he can find out Rafa's password.
2. Flor and Luis have another stupid misunderstanding about his sexual preferences.
3. Manny is dancing with Paloma while the whole family (minus Camilo and Cristobal) feast on grilled hamburgers and cake. Paloma continues to look fabulous in her bikini, but I noticed her the look in her eyes is strangely vacant. (Nobody home in the brainpan?)
4. Laura, rather tactlessly, given that she's enjoying the Gonzalez' hospitality, agrees with Barbi that "blood is blood" and Regi should NOT give up her baby to this couple.
5. Monica, who has the maturity of a 4-year-old, is clutching her teddy bear and going wah-wah over not getting Camilo as a Crackerjack prize. She watches an old romantic black and white movie on her iPad. Then inserts herself and Camilo into the story. Here it gets fun. They look smashing in their duds and 30's hairstyles and we've got a "no, si, no, si, no, si, no, si" that's cute. (Or else that's my early dinner talking.)
6. Laura finds Cris lurking around the hospital corridor. They bond over being "las ovejas negras" [black sheep] of the family. Big hug.
7. Manny and Adian are bonding also. Manny needs a guy to talk to (evidently he has no friends). They talk about Adrian's rolling stone tendencies. Manny would have loved to travel that much too, but Maggie is terrified of air travel. We find out that Adrian, by necessity, has learned to fix anything. When the heating unit fails, he fixes it then and there. Manny is impressed. Adrian laughs and says he'd be the perfect husband except he has no house.
8. Laura visits Diana. Misunderstands when she mentions Monica, assumes that she wants her to tell Moni to stay away from Camilo and Rafa and leaves in a rush to do just that.
9. Chabela arrives to watch over long-suffering Di. The latter asks if Tita ever had mastitis when nursing her and Laura. Intuits that her mom did not nurse them at all. But Chabela looks guilty. Like maybe she was the wetnurse?
Part 2
10. Camilo is in a bar; Monica is going wah-wah in a restaurant; Ximena is home getting ready for bed when Laura barges in and demands to see Monica.
11. Sarmiento family arrives home after gala evening at the Gonzalez mansion. Mauricio is waiting and plays the good boyfriend by talking Nico from Barbi and carrying him up to bed. Then makes the moves on Barbi and gives her a present: a cheesy Frederick's of Hollywood shorty negligée. Barbi hates it but promises him a wedding night like he'll never forget. He's ready to get the civil marriage over and done with right this minute. She's saying hold off. So he abruptly leaves in search of Paloma.
12. Nico, who has awakened, insists Mau bring him two packs of french fries tomorrow. Mau says no more blackmailing. You'd never tell. Nico tells. Barbi is shocked. But the idiot lets Mauricio talk her down again. Nico continues to successfully blackmail Paloma.
13. Monica is trudging home after an evening sniveling in an empty restaurant. Hallucinates that Camilo is sitting on steps waiting for her. Vowing to divorce Diana because he loves her like crazy. Passionate kisses. And then reality. And more tears. Ximena wants to talk to her about Laura's stealth visit but Moni wants to be alone with her teddy bear and her sadness.
14. Camilo and Adrian talked as well. Then Camilo comes home and thanks Barbi for taking such good care of family. She uses this as a wedge to get a really expensive "ramo de novia" [bridal bouquet] from NYC.
15. Laura arrives at MediaLink to confront a sleepless Monica about Rafa and Camilo. Moni tells her to butt out. And she knows Laura's interest in this is simply because she's hot for Rafa.
16. The man in question surprises Mauricio and computer buddy in their shared office. Seemingly accepts Mau's story for him being there. Learns all files are shared with everyone. Mauricio looks frightened that his murky business could get found out. Rafa asks for buddy's business card.
17. Adrian goes to Manny's bakery. The gas powered refrigerated show case is not working. Adrian knows how to fix it.
18. Chabela continues to try and buck up our suffering martyr Diana. The latter is appalled to learn she's probably going to live. Now she's not sure how to manage all those plans she had for making Monica her Life Replacement. Laments that everything is out of her control. Chabela reminds her that "el hombre propone y Dios dispone" [roughly translated=When you make plans, God laughs]
And there we end. I highly recommend only watching this drivel when you're in a pleasant daze from lots of good food. Otherwise, it's still a disaster.
Judy - thank you for your snarktastic recap. I posted on last week's page that I cannot do a Wednesday recap. I'm out all day. Tuesday, I have granddaughter (her fall break) and go from that to a hockey game, so won't even have time to watch that one. I can do a recap on either Thurs or Fri, just name your day.
Oh heavens, yes, never watch this telenovela on an empty stomach. One needs the blood sugar high of lunch, dessert, and anything else it takes. LOL
I was half-watching this, again while working on a sewing project, but I basically caught most of it, or the gist of it.
Yes, Chabela indicated to Tita that she (Tita) has a secret. I like your theory that the daughters might be adopted.
I figured that Moni/Cam kiss scene was a daydream, but ... ew! ugh! Ya basta!
Gosh, Adrian is just Mr. Fix-it, isn't he?!? Maybe he will end up with Monica if and only if she can get over her crush on Camilo.
Cristobal's bouffant hairstyle bothers me just as much as his personality and behavior.
Judy, over the last decade plus, I’ve always loved and been enthusiastic about your vocabulary. Tonight, "ramo de novia" [bridal bouquet]” and I believe my new favorite of all time "el hombre propone y Dios dispone" [roughly translated=When you make plans, God laughs” were wonderful.
But when I learn a new English word, I am delighted. I don’t believe I have ever heard of “prandial” and quickly looked it up.
Thank you for providing us with not only a fantastic summary, but new vocabulary to remember and savor.
“the look in her eyes is strangely vacant. (Nobody home in the brainpan?)” had me smiling away.
“The latter is appalled to learn she's probably going to live. Now she's not sure how to manage all those plans she had for making Monica her Life Replacement”. I still struggle with what makes me more uncomfortable. The fact Diana even suggested such a thing, or Monica who seemed to acquiesce to such an arrangement far too easily.
My vote is for the writers for ever thinking any of this would be fun and entertaining.
I admire your and the other recappers continuing to recap this. As doris noted “One needs the blood sugar high of lunch, dessert, and anything else it takes”. 😊
Never having seen this, I’m lost on the other characters so can’t comment.
Thank you Judy!
Diana
DIANA...Glad I could delight you with "post prandial". I learned that years ago from my crusty old editor Uncle Ben. He used it a lot.
In general, you do NOT want to watch this show. Ever. But one character, little 7-year-old Nico, is truly delightful. It's a hoot to watch him tighten the screws on all the misbehaving adults. His blackmail payment demands are pretty innocuous...junk food mostly. But he drives a hard bargain. Thanks as always for checking in, even though you can't watch this. The Petite Patio and I are very appreciative.
WEDNESDAY'S MINI-RECAP IS STILL UP FOR GRABS. ANYBODY FEELING CHARITABLE?
“the look in her eyes is strangely vacant. (Nobody home in the brainpan?)” I liked that one, too. Brought to mind the old saying, "THE LIGHTS ARE ON BUT NOBODY'S HOME."
I cannot stand Monica acting like a Lovesick teen crying and hugging her teddy bear over a married man with a sick wife. Yuck. Although Diana is bothering me, too.
What is up with Adrian and Main bonding ?
JudyB, thank you for another excellent recap and for the suggestions about using food to make the TN more palatable. I wonder if perhaps strong spirits would help too.
Anyway, I found this episode fairly good, and not just Paloma's dancing though that was fun; she and Manuel did OK. But you could be right about nobody being at home upstairs with Paloma. Could she be one of the writers on this TN?
I absolutely loved the old B&W (or sepia) movie bit. That was very well done, and I enjoyed it immensely.
Thereafter there was a lot of "stuff". I think the people behind this TN finally woke up to the fact that they were producing a sickly turkey. All of a sudden we have a lot of little developments that might lead to something other than Diana/Camilo/Monica. Adrian can fix anything and he and Manuel are bonding. Laura and Critobal are black sheep.
And the big one. Chabela talks of a "secret" between her and Granny Eugenia, then later Chabela's discomfort with Diana's questions about whether Eugenia breast fed her and Laura. They let us know awfully fast that there's something hidden here, and made sure we didn't miss it.
I do find the Diana/Camilo/Monica story line to be distasteful, but some of the rest is interesting. And I am curious, even though it borders on morbid curiosity, how they will resolve Monica's plight. And if Diana and Camilo will ever be OK with each other again.
andy
DORIS....Yes, "the lights are on and nobody's home" is a great description of Paloma. Good thing she has those fabulous legs and pouty lips that will quickly distract any novio from noticing the vacant look in the eyes.
SUSANLYNN...Here's my question, querida, was Vino el Amor as bad as this one? I didn't watch it but I remember people going crazy over how bad it was. Well, this one is pretty awful also. But hopefully, we're on an upturn now that Diana, to her disappointment, is not going to die just yet.
ANDY...I love your question: Could the empty-headed Paloma be on the writers on this show? That might explain a lot. Like you, I am intrigued by Eugenia's (Tita's) secret. I don't like her. She's too self-righteous for my taste. So I'd like to see her be "found out" about something. I know, I know, small-minded and petty for sure. But hey, never said I was perfect. And since we're discovering that Adrian has some virtues (a man who fixes things is a treasure) I'm ready to start shaking my pom-poms over a possible romance between him and Monica. Anything to get her off the Camilo train. And maybe she could lose that teddy bear also.
Last night, seeing the promo for "Cuna de lobos" (withCatalina Creel w/ her eyepatch, the familiar soundtrack and howling wolf) has led me to ask this question: is there anyone interested in recapping "Cuna de lobos"? I sure am. Please let me know if YOU are. : ) It starts 10/21 following "La usurpadora".
IMO, Vino El Amor, was pretty bad but this one beats it hands down. This is the worst TN I have EVER seen...yet I keep coming back to this wonderful patio.
JudyB, I can put something together on Wednesday; it'll be plain and dry so prepare your lemonade or strong spirits :-)
Also, strangely comforted by knowing this is even worse than Vino el Amor. It's certainly THE WORST that I've ever watched. Hands down. Good thing the Patio, however minuscule,is warm, wonderful and very entertaining. Makes up for the drudgery of the show.
Part 1
Yep, we're back to business as usual. Maggie is being overbearing and over solicitous with Regina. Laura is jumping to conclusions and meddling in the worst ways. Camilo and Diana both continue to total idiots. And Monica has done a 180 and has decided to immediately run off on a long overdue vacation leaving MediaLink in the lurch. And no, even a big lunch didn't help. These people are terminally annoying. Nico was briefly cute, but they ruined his scene with goofy hearts beating all over the place. Overkill. In short, another Big Fail today.
1. After a replay of Chabela's pep talk in the hospital (which does nothing to change Diana's perpetually martyred posture in life) we switch to the office. Mauricio's co-conspiritor is talking about how to hack more info and demanding his money for work already done. Mau begs off saying he has no cash on him. Wow. Not just a villain but a cheapskate, stupid villain.
2.Luis is looking at a replay of his sister's wrestling match and working up his courage to ask Nora out.
3.Manny and Adrian are becoming big buddies. Manny insists on paying him for fixing the display case and now wants to delve into his personal life. Adrian returns the favor wanting to know if Manny was in love before Maggie, and if he ever thinks of the first big love in his life. Jeez...are they speed dating or what?
4.Monica is deciding she doesn't want to be co-dependent anymore. Tired of doing for others and not for herself. She's not going to be anybody's "titere" [puppet, stooge]
5. Mauricio is trying to erase all his skullduggery on the computer.
6. Nico accidentally hits his girl buddy with a soccer ball. They make up. She gives him a big heart poster she made. Just in case we're dense and don't get it, we see hearts pulsing and popping all over the screen.
7. Adrian visits Tita and volunteers to go check out el Killer. Wants permission to take Manny along. Tita not enthusiastic about the idea.
Part 2
8. Monica visits a travel agency. She's ready to go anywhere as long as she can leave immediately.
9. Mauricio learns that Pablo and Rafa are meeting with Camilo at home. Barges in all offended at not being included. Rafa reminds him that the client interviews are not his area. He persists and dumps on every idea. However Camilo is on board and likes the innovative, risky approach. Just in case we don't get that Mauricio is upset, the camera shows us clenching his fist. Finally he throws an out and out tantrum when Rafa suggests hiring his friend from Miami days.
10. Diana, still playing the self-sacrificing mujer, tells Barbi not to stay with her. Please go pick up kids from school instead.
11. Stupid, meddling Laura grabs Camilo when he comes downstairs and tells him she knows what Monica is up to with him and it's not gonna happen. She insists that he fire her. Camilo runs off. Laura, then all bright and bushy-tailed, goes upstairs to offer everybody coffee. (Or maybe just to see Rafa, her inappropriate crush)
Judy, I will recap this Thursday and that will be my last time. Next week, I will be watching Hijas, instead.
Part 3
12. Paloma is bummed because she hasn't sold a single piece of jewelry. Evidently her prices are too high. Solution: Throw on a bikini, sun bathe and ask Pablo to apply tanning lotion...ALL OVER if you please. He's more than ready. But only gets halfway through before they kiss. Nico catches them. Gets tickled for his pains.
13. Camilo rushes to hospital where he is again rebuffed by Diana. He knows she doesn't want to see him, but he insists that they have a serious talk. Knock on door. Monica. Who's there to announce that she "can't take care of the matter Diana requested". Diana glares at her like HOW COULD YOU????!!!!! Evidently Diana is still stuck on Plan A and is persistently planning on dying.
14. Adrian and Manny arrive at the tattoo parlor. El Killer at first appears to be a Conehead Tattooed Dwarf. Muscular and menacing. However, turns out he's the older brother. El Killer is actually in Australia competing in some "skater" event.
15. Monica clarifies to outraged Diana and Camilo that she is not quitting. She is simply taking a long overdue vacation. She's stressed and tired. Evidently that's not reason enough. Camilo runs after her, shouting that "he needs her more than ever!" (Pained look from long-suffering Diana.) Moni mentions that she too has needs. "Well, then at least postpone your vacation!" -"NOTHING will make me change my mind!"
I sure hope so. I need a vacation from Monica myself. How about you?
Part 4
16. Internet police are back at office. And once again learn that the boss is not there. But clarify they're investigating some illicit activity on the internet linked to this very business.
17. Barbi runs into Cristobal's room to tell him Regi has disappeared with a lot of clothes from her closet. She wants help looking for her.
18. Maggie is all over Regina like a rash, signing her up for massages and yoga pregnancy classes, monitoring her internet usage and forbidding she watch a video about an ecology group disrupting a fur fashion show.
19. Rafa returns to office; learns about police visit. Wants to know if Luis, who arrives early and leaves late, has noticed anything suspicious. Nora says she is also around a lot. Rafa tells them they need to figure out who the culprit is without alarming Camilo.
20. Camilo arrives home; learns Regi has moved out. Throws lamps, breaks stuff, yells that "this house (family) is a disaster!" Clearly at breaking point.
Part 5
21. Monica is rushing around the office like a crazy lady trying to get ready to leave on trip. Luis tries to calm her down by giving her an asphyxiating hug. When that fails, he repeats with a more gentle but deeply comforting one. Nora watches and misunderstands as usual. He's the self-appointed Hugmeister.
22. Camilo barges into the Gonzalez house and demands that Regina return home. She tells him to CALM DOWN. AND LISTEN.
23. Laura visits Diana in hospital, all cheerful and proud about warning Camilo off Monica. Tells her the falsehood she learned from Ximena, that Camilo had dinner with Monica the other night. (Actually he was in a bar talking to his brother Adrian.)
24. Manny pitches his business idea to Adrian. He wants him to start a business called House Husband where Adrian would do the work that actual husbands won't do or don't know how to do. And he could also do it for single women and women who are poverty-stricken [menesterosas]
25. Diana looks stricken herself at Laura's announcement. Chabela and Tita overhear Laura and assume the worst. This launches Tita on a sermonette about how she knows Camilo loves Diana but you can't push a man too far. Because the worst can happen. And how well she knows! The chain always breaks at the weakest link.
On that dreary note, we end.
So now the vote for Most Stupid: In the running, Meddling Laura, Obvious Villain Mauricio, Credulous Trusting Barbi, Self-Centered Cristobal, Overbearing and Suffocating Maggie, Late Bloomer and Co-Dependent No More! Monica, Eternally Martyred Diana, Hysterical Camilo, or Sourpuss Sermonizing Tita. Nora and her long-running misinterpretations are nothing compared to the behavior of these other folks. Even Paloma's brain-dead promiscuity pales in comparison to what the rest of these characters are doing.
So think about it and tally your votes. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded once we have a final count.
JARIFA...We would have loved to have had your company but so far it's been pretty miserable. Hoping for an upturn, but it's sure been slow in coming.
Judy, I so wish this dreadful dreck had been worthy of your wonderful summary! Such talented writing deserves a greatly elevated storyline...
Gold for your superb "titere" [puppet, stooge]" and "women who are poverty-stricken menesterosas]" (I've heard the word but never knew what it meant).
Silver for "perpetually martyred posture" and Bronze for "Not just a villain but a cheapskate, stupid villain". So there! :)
Plenty of losers I dare say.
The Loser Queen: Diana who almost deserves Cam deserting her. I guess she wants to live her life stewing in misery juices of her own making. Let her, I say.
The Loser King: Cam, for not having a clue.
The Loser Wanna Be Queen in Waiting: Monica for allowing herself to be drawn into this silly scheme and for not having the courage to pull herself out and get on with her life without running away.
Thank you Judy!
Diana
JudyB, thank you for another excellent recap of this marvelous TN. OK, not so marvelous, but that's all the more reason I thank you. You're a real trooper or trouper, your choice. Maybe both.
Not to pick an argument with you, you know I would never do that, but I don't think you gave Nico and the cute little girl scenes all the attention they deserved. I thought it was a pretty intense 60 seconds or so and the highlight of the episode.
Hmmm...
more laters
andy
ANDY ANDY ANDY...Does your mom know you're staying up that late!? Almost 3 am! If I were your older sister, I would So tell on you!
Hate to agree but yes, given the wretched episode, Nico and his gal pal were the highlight...if you discount those ridiculous Walt Disney hearts flashing all over the screen. So often I keep wanting to say while watching this: YES WRITERS! WE GET IT! YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT US OVER THE HEAD WITH THE MUSIC AND SPECIAL EFFECTS. I dunno...maybe they're pitching this for morons. I sure sometimes feel like it after enduring another hour.
Well, Incredible Shrinking Patio--another day. Looking forward to having Rgv Chick fill in for me tonight, and Doris-For-the-Last-Time tomorrow. I'll be back to weep and wail and gnash my teeth Friday.
JudyB, if anyone deserves a medal it's you, for your valor and dedication. I know that you would ditch this wretchedness in a NY minute, but you keep it going for the patio and that is truly appreciated.
Nico and Cutie were undoubtedly the highlight of the episode. I smiled when Cutie spoke and hearts floated...but that should have been enough.
I bet Angie V didn't have much trouble pretending to be frustrated and disgusted...she probably thought about how stupid this show is and let all her feelings out for agreeing to be in this loser of a show.
Diana, ITA with your LOSER nominees!
Well, well, well! Here I am with my laptop ready to take notes..and I even had the title ready--"Waitin' for this Flop to Flip" but I guess we'll just have to wait some more because there is NO SHOW!!
I'll keep an eye out...maybe "El Adios de Mexico" to Jose Jose won't last the entire hour but I doubt it.
Hasta la vista, Baby!
Rgv Chickie, thanks anyway. At least you didn't have to suffer through an episode for the team as have other recappers Doris and JudyB.
Speaking of JudyB, Judy you are such a tattletale! Shame on you!
What can I say? Retirement, recorded TNs, bad computer habits, insomnia, and decaf. (I do blame decaf because I believe that caffeine cravings also keep me awake.)
:-)
andy
Chickie, do we have a date and time for " Hijas? " I like both of those actresses , and so I will try to watch.
Susanlynn, Hijas starts this coming Monday and will air at 3pm (E). I believe YMSOD will be moved up to 2pm.
Looks like Hijas will be fun. I also love Michelle and Cynthia both. Hope you all enjoy.
Endless thank yous to Judy, doris and Rgv Chick for keeping this clunker moving along.
Diana
Andy Andy Andy...YES! I AM A BIG TATTLETALE. NOW. Wasn't allowed to tattle when I was a kid. My mom, who was the youngest of seven and a terror, didn't like tattletales for obvious reasons. So let 'er rip and stay up as late as you want. Unfortunately I have some inner clock that wakes me up at 6 am (or before) no matter what. So late nights are out for me.
Ah Hijas...I'm so so on Michelle Reynaud but adore Cynthia Klitbo. So I'm tempted. And yet, the dogged fool in me now wants to see if the writers can possibly salvage this wreck of a show. And there's a limit on how many TN's I can watch. There are a few other demands on my time and energy...which is a good thing, actually.
Susanlynn...Well, if you decide to watch, maybe there will be a discussion page on Hijas, if nobody recaps. The Recapping Stable is stretched pretty thin these days.
Diana...Sigh...Another TN you can't watch because of that one little detail called "earning a living". But la Usurpadora has been fun to share. Can't believe that it's already nearing the end!
RgvChick - you dodged a bullet today.
My cable guide shows the same thing as RgvChick's. Hijas will broadcast at the same time Mañana has been on, and Mañana is moving up one hour to the timeslot Dicho has.
Judy, do we need to do an intervention on you and Mañana? ;-)
You've got me thinking. Maybe I could taper off by doing a once a week resumé of the dreary action. It seems to me that's how Melinama started out. Once a week she explained what the heck had been going on with the mystery boinker (Fernando Colunga) of Alborada.
Then little by little I could start edging over towards you guys in Hijas.
Totally ready to be hauled off to the manicomio otherwise. Alone and abandoned. Nooooooo......saying Where is everybody? Where is everybody? I WANT MY TEDDY BEAR!
However, ANDY will have to come over to Hijas also so I have somebody to fight with.
It's okay if you have to wean off Mañana, Judy, but sometimes cold turkey is the best way to go. ;-)
JudyB, I stuck to "Dona Flor" till the end, but I actually liked that show. Mañana still has 52 episodes to go and I would hate to see you torture yourself for at least 10 more weeks. If posting a once-a-week resumen makes you feel better, then by all means, do that, but please don't stress about it too much; IT'S NOT WORTH IT! I can give you thousands of reasons to LET IT GO--your hair(s) :-)
If you check the latest page of Mañana, you would see that we are abandoning ship. Nobody in our petite Patio likes the show. In fact we pretty much hate it--finding it insulting to men, for one thing. And not being comfortable with a "good character" being after a man who's already "happily" married, with children, for another.
Glad that you enjoyed reading the recaps, but unless Andy, who's still watching, decides to write something, the recaps are finito.
Wishing you continued luck recapping el Dragón. It's getting a little too kinky for me. But definitely an interesting show.
