El Dragón #16, 10/21/19: Evasions

Miguel and Adele continued to run down the bridge. Howard tried to follow them in his car, calling the police as he did so. Miguel and Adele ducked into a parking facility and took off in a car as soon as the sirens started.

Vlad of Novotech was being threatened with the end of his daughter's life.

Paula told Vlad off in the belief that his product was inferior. She then addressed a crowd and talked about the Grace prototype.

The chase continued. Adele drove past Howard, waving to him rather than flipping him the bird. That got his dander up.

The police continued chasing Miguel and Adele, who got back to close the deal with Paula Sandoval. Miguel and Adele rank champagne later to celebrate and he explained how the deal would go down.

In Mexico City Jorge visited Chisca. Her cell rang and it was Angel. She didn't want to talk to him so she had Jorge tell him she was asleep. After that call Jorge tried to get her to understand why Angel was better for her than Valentin but she didn't understand this or her own feelings about Valentin.

There was no proof that Miguel was involved in the Novotech problem.

Vlad's daughter got free and skyped him. He told her to take her mother and go to her grandparents for safety.

Miguel and Adele drank some more champagne with the other Russian dude. Later Miguel looked out at the ocean and Adele guessed that he was thinking about Asya. His take on love is that it happens because the two souls need each other. She got him to listen to her music with a shared pair of earbuds. [I hate those things.]

Flaco was hard at work when Jorge and Kenia arrived, telling him they were together; he saw this as a jest. He warned Jorge that she was weird. Jorge asked if he knew of anything strange or difficult from her past; laco say No.

Adele sang “a classic.” [No thanks]. They listened to some more. She told him about the day she heard Jorge crying out and Miguel explained that Jorge had been very young when their parents had been murdered. Adele talked about her father and her early interest in cars.

Vlad paid off the bald man.

Adele found Miguel meditating but he spotted two guys in a boat and a shootout began. Miguel overturned the table to act as a shield. Pig and Duarte talked about their plans in the meantime. Miguel – shirtless as usual – stops the shootout by disposing of two thugs and rescuing Adele from the bald man.

Hector and Claudia talked about his in-laws and his problems; they don't get what he's about. She is concerned about the danger.

Miguel and Adele get a tax report from the IRS.

Hector wanted to meet Juana, who wrote about victims of narcotrafficantes She saw Nati as a good person and she was trusted by others at work. She had been the personal assistant of Carlos Duarte. He asked her if there was an unprofessional relationship between them and she said she didn't think so. Later he was asked about his bussiness travel. He named a few places (including Acapulco) and asked her to keep all this from her boss. She agreed.

Valentin prepared to leave the country.

Howard tried to get Miguel to admit he was involved in criminal activitiesl; Miguel said they had no proof and walked out. Howard almost freaked out.

Valentin went to see Chisca and gave her a ring. [WTF is it with these two?] She was worried that Miguel would find out what happened. He told her it was better that she tell Miguel and handed her her cell phone. She called Miguel and told him she had been drinking with Angel. [That's at least another 10 IQ points down the crapper.]

Miguel and Adele returned home. Peligros tried telling him about Chisca but she arrived just in time to conceal the truth once more.

Miguel talked with Valentin on the phone about Chisca, but he still doesn't have a clue. After this call he put Peligros on watchdog duty.

Two thugs (one of them was Fernando Pacheco) visited their boss in the slammer. He told them to contact Miguel.

Miguel, Adele, the hackers, and a few others watched Novotech's stock plummet from 20 to 7; then Miguel bought it.

Fernando Pacheco called Miguel.... in front of Pig.

Thanks Urban, this Lizard...er Dragon show really is a head scratcher sometimes.

So Vlad's daughter's life is not taken and she calls him to say she is alive. And he is : "OK, that's cool, go to Grama's." I was somehow thinking he would say something like Where are you, don't move, and I will be right there. Oh well, she must be another of those resilient, resourceful gals like Adela.

Speaking of Adela, I wondered if the US Armed Forces are aware of how much protection a Wal Mart patio table affords against AK-47 and Kalashnikov machine gun fire. Saved Ms. Adela. Boy, nothing, (except Miguel Gaza) flusters her. After the attack which kills what appeared to be around a half dozen, they wade out from amoung the bodies and are strolling along the Marina. Oh Yeah, Miami is a magical place sometimes.

She has gotten a nibble or two from Miguel, but can't seem to set the hook. Listening to music in one ear together, up close, as dictated by the wire length on the earbuds, something was supposed to happen, right Adela? Probably time for a wardrobe malfunction, don't you think? Your singing isn't going to land you on "Reina de la Cancion' and it aint gonna land you between the sheets with anyone with ears either. Sorry.

"[That's at least another 10 IQ points down the crapper.] Hmmm when it gets to zero, does it just flat line, or can we have negative numbers? This pair deserve each other if for no other reason, than so they will not pair up with anyone else. What a perfect storm of evil and stupid. Have fun kids.

Obviously the truth will have to eventually come out about Chisca and Not Val. When Miggy finds out we shall see how he takes it having been deceived and lied too over the long term by his bestie. But he does not appear as sharp as his station in life would indicate. I wonder if he mostly got there through inheritance, dishonesty, and shirtlessness.

Some people are money-smart and not emotionally in tune while others are the polar opposite. How often do we see men who can run empires but can't manage their families? Miguel is in lots of good company in that, from Augustus Caesar to Michael Corleone, and Carlos Larios in the adjacent program.

Stock manipulation is definitely a crime, but not one I see Miguel getting punished for. However, this is only Week 3.

Urban, great recap, thank you!

Kirby, "this Lizard...er Dragon show really is a head scratcher sometimes: Sometimes?? And not just head scratching, but I'd also like to pull on some of the characters hair.

I am really not liking Chisca and Not Val...can we just have them disappear?

About Adela, "Your singing isn't going to land you on "Reina de la Cancion' and it aint gonna land you between the sheets with anyone with ears either." Poor thing can;t carry a tune if her life depended on it, but I just love to watch her try. Renata must have had a blast filming this show.

Good Morning Ms. Chik. I know I missed a few things last night, so maybe someone else got it. Paula Sandoval (tire chik) has her 'Pi' eco tires which were demonstrated and sabotaged by Miggy. Then I must have dozed off, next time she is talking about the Grace engine or something. Did I imagine that, or miss something?

Chisca and NV. So he gives her a ring and (lies) and told her he stole it to sweeten the deal, knowing her clepto hobby. It was not an engagement ring was it? Just a plain ring which he put on his Visa card.

Kirby: I don't see the truth about Chisca coming out until Ultimos Capitulos.

Steve, I don't know. Not without a brain transplant. Watching her is like wondering if a lit stick of dynamite will make any noise.

It wasn't an engagement ring.

Considering what he did to her I have to wonder how she can stand to even be in the same country with him.

UA...Thank you. I missed this show last night , so I especially appreciated your recap.

It is hard to watch Chisca , who seems to be her own worst enemy.

Gotta go...the spring went on my garage door opener. Have to find someone to repair it. #homeownership

Thank you UA! Another fun filled, action packed, episode that is difficult to follow. Thank you for capturing it so well. This show moves very quickly and it really is difficult to see where it is all going.

Since when does the IRS chase people down in a police car chase? Because I’ve done taxes and have taken Federal Income Tax courses, this all looks so hokey to me. The IRS sends you letters, then they will audit you. If after an audit if you don’t pay up, then you to tax court. If you lose in tax court and don’t pay up, then the U.S. Treasury Department will send their team (they have guns) to your house, seize all your assets, to collect what they want and you can go to jail. I can’t even figure out why this is part of the story because it makes absolutely no sense.

I agree, Chisca is her own worst enemy and she is going to do herself in if she doesn’t get help. I do see lots of hope for Jorge though. He’s very intelligent, but socially very awkward.

RGV Chick: You are so right about Adela’s singing. She will never even get an audition anywhere with that voice as she doesn’t seem to be able to carry any kind of a tune. Everything she sings sounds exactly the same.

Oh wait ! Then Adela is a rapper.

Thank you for the recap, UA. Why does our "hero" have an unerring instinct for knowing who everyone is except the worst person on the show, Valentin? I think the sparring between Howard and Miguel is going to be as good as that between Adela and Jimena.

Urban--This recap was as fast-moving as the episode, but you captured everything--Except--how after the shoot-out from the beach up to the terrace, Mig held Adela tightly for what seemed a good long time. Just sayin'

Adela catches on fast, but does not think ahead. Well, when she started working for him, she didn't think she had to. She was just going to be his chauffeur. Now the times are a changin' and she needs to know what she's in for. She can't expect him to protect her physically 24/7.

Valentin is the kind of guy we love to hate. There is nothing redeemable about him. And he's not that good-looking. At first I thought he was being played by Gonzalo Pena (of AAM--who got cheated out of a Premio, in my opinion), but thankfully he isn't.

Cynthia--I said I'd look up the IRS code, but you covered it perfectly. It's just one of those inconsistencies that we have to live with when a Mexican production company thinks it knows what the laws are in the States. Thank you for the very clear explanation. Maybe we just have to agree that Howard has gone Rogue and can do anything he likes to anyone he thinks is cheating the US out of taxes (or not). Well, Novotec WAS an American company. Maybe Howie was thinking ahead and preparing to nab Miguel as soon as he turns up something dicey.

I’m reading part about WalMart Patio table being durable to withstand weapons of mass destruction and I’m laughing and thinking this has to be Kirby!!! And it was...........thanks recapper....u make everything clearer. Kirby, glad we get to enjoy your smarminess and wit....

Gonzo Pena is so busy doing Trivago commercials and getting fitted for snappy new Tri-Va-Go Hotels outfits he has no time for anything else. Oh how I hated him in Despertar Contigo and AAM.

Anita said: " She can't expect him to protect her physically 24/7."

Oh I dare say I suspect that is EXACTLY what she has in mind.

But when the baddies had them pinned down behind the WalMart table and I thought she was a goner, as he rounded the end of the table and discovered her, she quick as a squirrel on a peanut slapped the gun away. So the girl does have some moves. Careful Miggy.

Thanks for the recap UA, I still haven't seen the episode, but based on them buying the stock when it was low, it looks, good. Did you all see the previews for Tuesday? Seems like after the stunt he pulled with Novotech, they are trying to redeem him a bit.

Also, on Rulli's instagram someone asked about the Netflix release. and he said the last 44 episodes in six months, So I imagine after time the original run on Univision is done. So, even though we don't get the first 38 here, to binge all at once, we will get the completion before the rest of the world. I can live with that.

Have a nice week all.

Esther

What, does that mean I will have to subscribe to Netflix to see the whole thing? That is so not right and will make a lot of people angry.

Telenovelas require a high degree of suspended disbe!ief....not to mention extra strength beanies.

Kirby--Our Ms Race Car Driver is too self-assured and self-confidant. I think she'd like to have a boyfriend like Mikey to satisfy her emotional and carnal needs (and some financial security), but she can take care of herself very well, thank you very much. Or, at least, that's how I see her.

It means that we will get all of our episodes in a row just like normal. The rest of the world has the first 38 episodes already available ( not in US market), but has to wait 6 months for the last 44.

Anita, you are probably right about Ms Speed Racer. She seemed none the worse for wear after her near death experience. I see more out of her just passing in a room with Jimena. I am really enjoying the little nuclear explosions any time hers and Jimena's radars cross.

Hmmm Cuna de Lobos...bunch of hairy guys and a one eyed chick and a Spanish speaking Taylor Swift without a dye job. I don't know yet.

Kirby..yes,Cuna is interesting. Catalina gives a lot of side eye with that one eye of hers, and the combined amount of hair on those guys is amazing .
