La Usurpadora - Capitulo 12 - Romance on steroids
Labels: usurpadora
This stew is simmering in its own juices, not yet quite ready to come to a boil.
"Jackpot dollar signs flash in Arcadia’s eyes" was my favorite of many.
Your comments on comatose Carlos were insightful and very well stated: "seeing as they created this character with only two emotional settings, is now flipping his switch to ticked off" and "He tries to call Gema (probably as he is unused to strain his brain alone for such an extended period of time). If only Carlos were not so one dimensional, there might really have been a contest for the fair Paulina. Nava wins by default. I'm still not smitten.
So, Paola knew the truth all along. When Olga called her Paulina, it seemed to trip the wire that any affection she'd been shown for the last few days was meant for her sister. Not her.
Wilson bought Paola's accepting his infidelity? Major red flag. What a dork.
One person who is thinking is Manuel. Knowing his sibling all too well and his slavish devotion to Paola, luck is finally with him as he knows something is amiss.
"Upstanding Carlos, who has no issue cheating on his wife, is nevertheless very upset with these two supposed friends with loose morals!". His own position on the pedestal is precarious. Not a time to condemn others. Nava is right though in that Gema needs to create a real life for herself. Why people settle is beyond me.
"Fish rots from the head, buddy". Indeed.
I was so happy to see Monse with Paulina, I would not have cared if her fairy godmother transported her there. One of the few genuinely likeable characters here.
Pascual. Shut. Up.
I can see where a few balloons and goodies turned Lisette's head. Diego looks like he is in agony. I keep wondering if Paola ever showed Lis any affection as it is clear Lis loves her mother. Paulina being with Nava will prevent her from becoming Lis' mother, but hopefully they will establish a strong bond.
I love Diego but he really needs to take more care to be sure he is not being watched or overheard. I am not looking forward to a Manuel and Paola reunion. Neither, I believe will Terry.
This was wonderful Ria. Thank you!
Diana
Gracias!
The Nava/Paulina romance is indeed on steroids....
"He then feeds her breakfast and coffee and they continue kissing and behaving like a couple. (It is super interesting to me that we made this jump to domestic bliss from the only kiss yesterday. I guess they are feeling the pressure of 25 episodes..."
Even though I very much like the speed-dating style of these new short telenovelas, it is a bit dizzying as well.
And love your jaundiced view of Carlos:
"a character with only two emotional settings, is now flipping his switch to "ticked off"
And of course, his own weak moral code does not prevent him from judging harshly his two best friends for attempting to protect him. Granted, it was wrong. But given his shallow character, maybe they were right to cover up their shielding.
Don't like to watch telenovelas at night, but this show is a delightful breakfast treat along with your recaps. And those of Princess Juju. Thanks so much.
The double lies by Teresa won't live long and she will be in very hot water. Paola is a killer and a mentally ill one who doesn't stop to think about the law or other consequences.
Lis has a need to be loved, like all children. Nobody wants to know that their mother doesn't love them, but Paola is a narcissist -- like Arcadia -- and is therefore incapable. She needs therapy or she will fall into the hands of a user like her mother. Molina is trying to turn his nephew into such a person and Diego is resisting. Good for him, but he needs to fight harder.
The lack of servants is concerning. Here it might be because the series is short and there is no room in the script for them, as they often have their own stories. It really bothered me in PyP where we had two very wealthy families who each had only one visible servant. Or were all the actors typecasst as servants at AQNMD?
Diana, Yes! Wilson is a “dork”. What did Paulina ever see in him?
Hugo, there are still many many questions to be answered.
Urban, Interesting comment about servants’ subplots, I am voting for the series being too short to accommodate them.
Question: Did Paola really feel anything for Manuel or is she just upset about not having anyone around as an ally?
I felt sorry for Miguel who is in the pressure cooker with the possibility of losing his tuition and his mother her financial support. Poor Lis.
Oh yes, the same old same old scene of the “gambler”( usually female ) being turned away from the casino. I know I saw this at least in LC . . . Since it grated on me, it must have occurred in others?
Over and out this a.m.
Ha...nearly naked Nava on horseback made me giggle not blush. I immediately thought it was a parody of photos I remembered seeing of shirtless Putin on horseback followed by that parody on SNL. Nyet, just nyet. That imagine Was burned into my brain at the time. Uff. Was that tongue in cheek or for realz ?
Jarifa, I think Paola's reaction to Manuel being done was strictly self serving. I think it was pure panic. She is smart enough to know that Terry is boarderline foe - certainly not a friend. Only my thought - I could be wrong.
Diana
UA: I'm wondering how long will Teresa stick around ? Won't be long if Manuel keeps drooling over Paola.
Ria: Keep up the good work!
Jarifa: I'm with you on Lizette. Poor girl!
OT ...Diana.. Hi there. Life has been hectic and stressful lately, so I often don't have time to comment, but I a here reading the rollicking recaps and insightful comments. The patio remains a place for me to have a mini vacation from reality.
Hugo, so from what we know so far, it appears Susana did commit suicide, and somehow in the process of that a woman died somehow (unintentionally). Carlos didn’t know about it and Gema/Nava chose to conceal it to preserve his mental state (presumably he would have felt very guilty on top of his guilt already), and his career (unclear on their intentions here, but we can presume they thought this would be a blemish on his presidential aspirations).
Hi everyone! Sorry I am popping in late today.
JudyB, you (and Jarifa) are too kind! Not sure the title even partially should be given to me, but I certainly cherish the wonderful company I am finding myself in - both presently and elsewhere on this great patio :-)
On your comments, yes it does feel dizzying, doesn’t it? Maybe I am old-fashioned, but I sort of expected some conversation covering the complexity of the situation and their feelings before we went to a happy family arrangement, coffee and breakfast. Well, maybe not these days. Again, as we mentioned a few times on here - how times of Mexican novelas have changed! Highly fascinating to watch.
Urban, yes - I am looking forward to Paola finding out about Terry’s lies. She will likely to be more ticked off than subservient Manuel. And very good point on the servants!
Jarifa, I wondered about Paola and Manuel. I, too, came to the conclusion that she was just happy to have an ally still alive, but I guess we’ll see how it develops.
Susanlynn, I too am happy to see you and my goodness, shirtless Nava was giving me Putin flashbacks since he first took his shirt off and got on a horse. I thought it’d be too much of an obscure reference for a recap, but you made me laugh so much. Thank you for that comment.
Steve - yes, Wilson is quite dim-witted.
Anon 11:34 - yes, I suppose the point here is indeed more of a friendship loyalty, and the fact that Andrea should not have gone there.
Also not sure why my hello in the last comment turned out to be in the middle!
Upstanding Carlos, who has no issue cheating on his wife, is nevertheless very upset with these two supposed friends with loose morals!
Jackpot dollar signs flash in Arcadia’s eyes.
Susanlynn, ITA I’m surprised Paola trusted Terry. Who does she think blew up her car?
I still don’t get Nava going along with the coverup. Gema is in love with Carlos. But what's Nava's excuse? Nava said something about doing it because Mexico needs Carlos as president. I don’t see it myself. But then I don’t know Carlos’s opponents.
Points to Manuel for not buying Terry’s tale. But demerits for leaving his phone at home.
Glad I can stop wondering if Paola is on the level in Colombia. She hasn’t changed a bit.
Jarifa, ditto all Diana said about why Paola freaked out about Manuel’s death.
That old general should go somewhere and Retire. He literally blackmailed the President. And the president being the limp Biscuit that he is folded. Maybe To protect his family from the humiliation. The children and granny. That was big Of him.
But to fire the only two people that can help him. Who took gema's place?
And he Gonna need nava to protect him
Cuz I doubt he can shoot, if it comes
To that. Why'd they make this prezz so
Image conscious. He's almost like a mannequin taking any kind of pose he has to impress upon the people hes the
President. I like the actor but don't
Much care for the character he's been playing.
Everytime I see Paola fall on to Olgas
Shoulder for comfort I think there is
Hope, but no. She only cares for Paola.
Gema should take navas advice and stay
Away from the married president.
Nava looked rather jealous watching all the family together having dinner.
The man is hooked. Paulina has come in
To his heart. I'm glad paola cut her hair, now we can tell them apart.
Thanks Ria.
