La Usurpadora - Capitulo 21 - What you won't do for love...or revenge.

Paulina and Carlos continue their conversation. He wants her to know that what he feels is real, but Paulina is very confused. She admits that she can’t say that she has no feelings for him, but also doesn’t know if she has feelings for Facundo. What she does know is that her mom asked her to forgive Paola, and she can’t let Facundo put her in jail. There must be other ways to help Paola, says Paulina. (Not sure help is where they are going with the incarceration, dear…) Carlos seems on board with the plan of leniency, if possible.

Meanwhile Paola, having come home late again, continues to dish out metaphors and aphorisms at Wilson, who was waiting up for her and dared to think that he can impose his rules on our Queen of Craziness. She quickly puts him in his place and heads to bed, where she has a nightmare of Olga’s dying and calling her by Paulina’s name again. She wakes up distressed.

In the morning, Carlos comes downstairs and is quickly put off by Arcadia, who is asking him to break the law and get the papers for her house back. He swaps her pleasant company for that of Nava, who came to tell him he still suspects Manuel and Teresa, and found all sorts of info on Teresa. The warrants for their arrest are out, but they still have no info on Paola. Carlos relays Paulina’s reluctance to implicate Paola, and Nava vehemently disagrees. The two then almost get into a brawl, deciding which one of them is going to protect Paulina from all the earthly harm.

Nava leaves and goes directly to find Paulina. They run into each other on an elevator, and he demands some explanations for her desire to spare Paola. This isn’t personal, he says, and Paulina immediately questions it. Nava tells her he doesn’t want anything to happen to her, they kiss and are interrupted by a lost Piedad. They split and each of them goes about their business, as if nothing happened.

For Paulina this business is first answering a call from Paola, who is curious whether her plan to sow some discord by mentioning Nava to Carlos worked. She is certainly disappointed that Paulina denies any trouble in paradise. When they hang up, our Polyamorous Paulina discusses her romantic situation with Montse. Carlos is stable and kind, he will give her good family life she always dreamed of, but Facundo – oh, Facundo! – he is just so spontaneous and unpredictable. Montse is eating all of that up. Speaking of Montse though - she spent most of the morning at the women’s shelter with Lis, talking to a pregnant girl and made a decision to adopt a baby. Paulina is very happy for her.

At the desk of our efficient Pascual, Manuel’s letter of resignation is about to be signed, despite his pleas to let him stay. Manuel is asked to leave, but is allowed to collect his personal effects, and is thus ceremoniously accompanied by the security guy, in a manner as to afford the household staff the best view of events for future gossip. Manuel goes directly home, where he requests that Teresa gets a new set of documents for Paola. The two get into a very loud fight with open windows, during which Manuel reminds Teresa of her debt to Paola, since she tried to kill her. It just so happens that Paola was passing by their windows when she heard this discussion, and the little wheels in her head start turning.

She waits for Teresa to leave and comes in to talk to Manuel, who seems to be tired of her behavior and upset over being fired. Paola tells him to be happy, because she is offering him freedom and money in exchange for his loyalty now. Manuel gets some courage from somewhere and decides that this is not enough. Well, Paola came far enough now that she is not going to stop, no matter what disturbing thing she needs to do apparently. So he removes his tie and gets to business… bed kind of business, that is. Manuel, by the look on his face, is as shocked by this development as we are.

Thankfully they spare us the details, but Paola is not willing to waste a second of her sacrifice. With the deed done and the hook sunk securely in Manuel, she reveals that she knows about Teresa’s assassination attempt and demands he makes a choice: Terry or Paola.

Terry, meanwhile, with her ears probably most certainly burning, is trying to get Paola her fake documents. Very timely she receives a call with the information that the warrants are out for hers and Manuel’s arrests. She adds two more fake document sets to the order and races back to the house immediately, shouting that they need to get out of the city asap, as she enters. Instead she is greeted by the gun pointed at her by none other than Manuel. She deduces that Paola has ordered him to off her and, when Manuel hesitates, wrestles the gun away from him. Teresa is disappointed and upset, and Manuel tells her he loves Paola. Teresa leaves and advises Manuel that he does the same. As she exits, she smashes their photo in a frame.

This smashed photo is all Nava finds when he raids their house a day late and a dollar short. He does get some good news this episode though, as Irene informs him they caught Gonzalo’s pilot, who claims to have info.

Paola, meanwhile, gets her assistant Wilson to bring Arcadia for a meeting with her - she decided she needs more back up. Wilson brings a tipsy Arcadia to a restaurant and Arcadia, who seems to have thought a young-ish man is interested in her, is shocked to see Paola there. Paola remarks that Arcadia loves her so little that she didn't even notice it was her twin sister living at the house all this time. Arcadia back pedals and tries to say that she did see the changes in Paola. Paola quickly establishes that all Arcadia wants is the money and Paola is prepared to pay her well for her help.

Back at Osito and Osvi’s, Pedro comes home from his macho outing with dad. Osvi is on pins and needles to find out how the coming out went. Pedro is forced to tell him that he listened to offensive jokes about homosexuals all evening, including stories about people’s sabotaged careers, only because they were gay, so he chickened out. This is the last straw for Osvaldo, so he packs a suitcase and leaves.

Pedro recounts this story, as well as confesses his dealings with Molina and the blackmailing, to Facundo the next morning, while serving him some terrible coffee (apparently Osito had very few responsibilities around the house, and sans Osvi everything is falling apart.) Nava of course gives him a kick in the rear and motivates him to confess everything to Pascual to preserve his integrity. Pedro puts on his big boy pants and delivers the news about Molina, the blackmail and his sexual orientation to our very busy general Pascual.

After this information share occurs, Molina doesn’t fare too well at all. We are suddenly grateful that sucker punches were all Nava learned during his stint in police force, because there is some extra cruel beating and torture happening to Molina. (Could have done without seeing that, really…) These techniques, barbaric as they are, do prove effective, and Molia gives up Fanjul’s name. Fanjul is swiftly arrested for this and other misdeeds. Carlos celebrates by patting himself on the back in front of his cabinet for making good on campaign promises, and also announces Gema’s new appointment.

Gema is not wasting any time and apparently decided the appointment needs to come with some other perks. Carlos thanks her (almost too) profusely for all her help, but she hints that she would like more. He doesn’t take the bait though, explaining that he doesn’t want to hurt her. Gema is disappointed.

Pedro, meanwhile, delivers Diego’s letter to Lis, who finally accepts and reads it. She ends up meeting with Diego, who wants to patch things up and tells her about his affection. Very impressively, Lis tells him that she learned a lot. She doesn’t think Diego is as in love with her as he says. Besides she learned that though she likes him, she likes herself a lot more. With that, Lis drops the mic and leaves!

Emilio goes to see a psychiatrist. This goes uneventfully and, by the looks of it, unfruitfully. Later Emilio quarrels with his friend, as the latter does not understand his desire to stop drinking. Good for Emilio for sticking to his guns! (for now, anyway.)

In the middle of all of this, Paulina gets a call from Wilson, who claims that he has a box and a letter that her mother left her. They set a date to meet at a restaurant. Prior to the meeting Paulina decides to be efficient and goes to a benefit for the women’s shelter for young girls, where she is praised and celebrated. Carlos and Gema (and the rest of the family) are also in attendance. Gema makes sure to take a few digs at Paulina, and the latter wonders to Montse if Carlos is still continuing his relationship with Gema. No time to give it too much thought though, as Paulina needs to be off for her meeting with Wilson.

She asks everyone to go on without her and leaves. Carlos goes home, where Piedad wants to talk to him about how uneasy she feels that Paola changed so quickly, and now Carlos is in love again. Carlos decides that there is no better person to give the sensitive information to than a woman with memory issues, and so he spills the truth about the twins. Piedad is in shock.

Right then one of those twins, as it happens, is exercising some very questionable judgement and meets a very sketchy Wilson in a dark restaurant. They chit chat, he gives her the box, and then he claims to have forgotten the letter in his car. So next they go down to a dark parking garage (somehow, again, having lost the security detail). While Wilson searches in his car, Paulina becomes uneasy and picks up her phone to call someone. But she is ambushed from behind by a masked figure and, after a short struggle, the figure fires a shot and Wilson is on the ground bleeding. The figure knocks Paulina out, stuffs her inside the car and drives off, while Wilson is lying there begging for help.

Thank you for another excellent recap Ria. I enjoy this tn because the crazy happens so fast.

While I'm happy they spared us the details of Paola and Manuel, I still saw enough and no amount of brain bleach can remove those images. Oh, that he would have had a heart attack after the first kiss.

If we had any doubt about Paola - I know we didn't - her sleeping with Manuel... demonstrates she has not changed.

I'm glad the evil siblings left their dogs behind though I only saw two. Pascual forcing Manuel to resign was fun!

And yes Molina got a serious beat down. It was not pretty and like you said, it was a bit too much. I wanted him to get his but they could have alluded to his beating.

I'm in shock that Carlos turned down Gemma. It may not make up for his lack of intelligence but he wins major points for me. If Paulina does pick him, I'm going with Jane Austen's view of marriages from "Sense and Sensibility." If he is fortunate enough to get Paulina, she will make him a better man and she'll have the family she wants.

Lis was the winner in tonight's episode! I love your characterization of her mic drop.

Both abuelas know about Paulina...not good. The poor kids will find out in a bad way (a prediction). Do we know what Paola's mother has to do to get the money Paola promised her?

Paulina should know that she is still not safe so meeting with Wilson under shady circumstances was idiotic. Yes Ria completely questionable judgement!

It makes sense that Paulina would be kidnapped (again) in our closing episodes. Manuel (the masked figure) is inept so we'll see how that goes. And with Terry gone, he and Paola will mess this up; perhaps, they'll kill one other.

Perfect Ria. You were on fire, sizzling from beginning to end. Just marvelous.

Loved both "Paola, having come home late again, continues to dish out metaphors and aphorisms at Wilson" and "Carlos decides that there is no better person to give the sensitive information to than a woman with memory issues, and so he spills the truth about the twins". Fantastic.

"He swaps her pleasant company..." and "Polyamorous Paulina" were other favorites.

Karen, you are keeping the heat on with "While I'm happy they spared us the details of Paola and Manuel, I still saw enough and no amount of brain bleach can remove those images". I could not have said it any better! :) Bile rising...

So I gather Pasqual did not accept Pedro's resignation? Pedro's father is so prejudiced and bullying, I feel for him trying to summon the courage to tell him. Yes, it seems Osvi is the heart and soul of their home which has quickly turned into disarray. Pedro just looked like he lost his best friend. Indeed he has.

Manuel didn't have the guts to kill Terry but eliminating Wilson, his supposed rival was easier.

Terry really seemed devastated by Manuel's betrayal. Yes, I saw two dogs leave, likely now to be homeless, wandering the streets. Ack.

Arcadia seems bursting at the seams to tell someone, anyone, that Paola is her sister. Can anyone tell me please what Paola said at their meeting? She seemed to be chastising her for how she treated her as a child...

I liked that Lis has confidence but felt a bit for Diego. I don't think there was anything he could have done. Molina had him by the short hairs. Molina did get his.

In viewing the seesaw affection from Paulina regarding Carlos and Facundo, I suspect Carlos is riding a bit higher in the seat. I do believe he loves Paulina and his gentle but firm rebuff of Gema scored high.

Manuel as a crazed kidnapper. What could possibly go wrong?

Ria, just sensational. You've outdone yourself!!

Diana

Good morning all. Enjoyed your recap as always RIA. And especially liked this:

The two then almost get into a brawl, deciding which one of them is going to protect Paulina from all the earthly harm.

It happens in every telenovela but I always enjoy it. Two males battling for the protection of the lovely "hembra". Mother Nature rules. Not sure whom to root for, if anybody. But did like the prospect of the endearing Montse being able to adopt a child. Hopefully her nurse's salary will be enough to provide for them both.

And agree with everybody that the Molina battering scene was shocking. As was the bedroom romp of Manuel and Paola. Yes, even the little we saw was very, very disturbing. Have to admire Paola's determination though to do whatever it takes to get his unquestioning loyalty back. She has a wicked way with words--referring to his tie as a "leash" and encouraging him to no longer wear it.

DIANA...You were right. Paola was remonstrating with her adoptive mother about her neglect, her lack of caring, her selfish interest in her own well-being, rather than her daughter's, her indifference to Paola's bouts of depression etc.

I assume the inconvenient Wilson is done for, given the blood running from his mouth. Perhaps he will live long enough to rat out Paola, but otherwise, I'm okay with him exiting this mortal coil. Stealing from the needy children in Colombia was all we needed to know about that non-galán.

Can't believe that Friday is the last show. I'll be in Charlotte but will look forward to watching it when I return.

Good morning, everyone!

Karen - I was glad to see that they left the dogs behind as well! And like Diana, I thought your comment on 'no amount of brain bleach' that can erase that scene with Manuel was so perfect and spot on!

Diana - oh, thanks for reminding me! I added that scene into the recap as well. As JudyB noted above, when Arcadia showed up and saw Paola, Paola said: "Oh, Arcadia, you love me so little that you didn't even notice". And Arcadia, genius that she is, naturally assumed Paola is talking about cutting her hair. In turn, Paola explained that that it was her twin sister living with them all this time. Arcadia tried to defend herself: she gave Paola everything, Paola is ungrateful. Paola rebuffed with scenes from her (not happy, but arguable not the most terrible imo) childhood and quickly deduced that all Arcadia wants from her even now is money. So she will give her a good sum in exchange for some yet unspecified help.
Also, it does seem that Carlos is edging Nava out slightly. It was interesting how she was so calm talking about Carlos and almost gushing about unpredictable Nava. But I agree (and to Karen's point above also) that she appears to be leaning towards a practical approach - Carlos and family.

JudyB - I guess Paola does get some the medal for the most persevering. This was certainly above and beyond. I, too, assume WIlson is dead, but I guess we find out today. No big loss there for sure, but what an idiot that one to follow and stay with Paola, even seeing how she treats him. Unbelievable how fast this is moving indeed!!

Thanks, Ria. Fab title and recap. You have the gift for dishing great snark with the details. My faves:

Polyamorous Paulina

Manuel gets some courage from somewhere

Thankfully they spare us the details, but Paola is not willing to waste a second of her sacrifice.

After this information share occurs, Molina doesn’t fare too well at all. We are suddenly grateful that sucker punches were all Nava learned during his stint in police force,

Lis drops the mic and leaves!

Diana, I'm feeling badly for Diego too. Kudos to Lis for realizing her self-esteem was part of her problem and standing up for herself. But Viewerville knows Diego is an exceptional boy. Maybe in time, they'll reconnect.

Argh! Paola does have a knack for seduction doesn't she? That whole necktie and leash thing. Cringe-inducing, but also inspired.

Judy, thank you for answering my question! I too am "okay with him (Wilson) exiting this mortal coil". Hurting innocent children in any way is reprehensible.

Thank you too Ria. I can't think of the actress playing Arcacia right now but she did a wonderful job with her facial expressions. Indignation and then pique at being told the truth. And while it is sad that she was ignored I agree that many children suffer far more.

Diana

Excellent work, Ria.

Manuel/Teresa/Paola... I can't see this ending well. Teresa has a truly sick obsession with him and in her way she is just as sick otherwise as Paola.

My gut is telling me right now that this will end with Paola dead and Paulina impersonating her for the rest of her life. She is suited to the role of First Lady and a much better mother than Paola ever had been.

It wouldn't bother me for Wilson to be dead. He's slime.

Thank you, Ria, your recaps are a joy to read.

I agree with everyone--Paulina is probably going with the sensible choice. Karen, thanks for mentioning "Sense and Sensibility." I enjoyed reading Jane Austen's books wa-a-a-y back when I was in high school.

I was not surprised that Carlos turned down Gema. Despite having an affair with Gema, Carlos does seem to be an honest man. Accepting Gema's "indecent proposal" would have been out of character for him IMO.

I was actually expecting Manuel to have a heart attack. He sure looked shocked...and oh so clumsy.

Diana, "I liked that Lis has confidence but felt a bit for Diego." Oh I felt sorry for Diego too. He may have agreed to the plan at first, but he fought it all the way. I do hope Liz gives him a second chance.

I think Paulina felt safe in meeting with Wilson because she was not aware that he came to Mexico with Paola. Had she known that he was with Paola, she would have been more cautious.

Is Wilson still alive? He sure looked dead to me.

Thanks JudyB and Ria for telling us the Paola/Arcacia conversation.

Diana and Niecie, ITA that while I am happy Liz is loving herself, I felt for Diego. He is a nice boy put in a horrible situation by his awful tio.

UA - yes I think the show will end as you have predicted with the twins.

Rgv Chick - great points regarding Carlos, essentially being honest, and Paulina not knowing Wilson had come to Mexico with her wretched sister.

I'm with all of you that Wilson is most likely dead and that's ok.

If he isn't, he's a Dead Man Walking.

I don't see Paola repenting, either. This is a classic superstitious view of identical twins with one Good and one Evil.

Ria, wow, that was a great recap of a wild, wild ride. Thank you.

Karen .. "The crazy happens so fast" ..so true.
Manuel looked like a deer caught in the headlights when Paola crawled on board. Yikes . She certainly has kept her dance card full. Sex seems to be her trademark way of getting her way. And then we get treated to another confrontation between Terryfying and Manual. Manhandled Manuel is caught between a rock and a hard , crazy place...Terryfying and APpaolaing. OMG.

Did they really have to show us Molina getting another beating...this one even bloodier and more violent? Ugh. Telenovelas seem to be getting more and more violent and graphic . Dragon showcase torture last night. Ugh

OT - Sense and Sensibility remains my favorite all time movie.

Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman. Add Greg Wise (Emma's real life hubby) and it was a dream cast.

If I only had 2 movies to watch - it would be this and Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightly).

Strange that one sister kissed two horrible toads (Manuel and Wilson) and the other, two not quite galans. Still yearning for a magical, passionate, can't live without you kiss and Manuel certainly does not quality. Shudder...

Diana

Susanlynn, our comments crossed.

"Manhandled Manuel is caught between a rock and a hard , crazy place...Terryfying and APpaolaing. OMG". HA! :)

Diana

I wanted Paulina to end up with Nava , but I think that he lost out when he slept with Irena showing that he cannot be faithful, and a true galan is always faithful once he meets his true love. I thought that finally finding a good woman would settle Nava down , but...no. He is still a Randy dog. Carlos , on the otherhand , has not returned to his lover Gema, so he will win the kindhearted Paulina. ....but Carlos is just so...meh ......that I can't be excited about this happy (?)ending.

Ria: Thank you for another amazing recap. Something tells me Lizette will begin to hate Paulina if Paola & Arcadia brainwash the kid.

Tonight we're going to find out IF Wilson is dead. Speaking of a growing Body Count: whatever happened to Paulina's BFF in Colombia ?

Susanlynn: I'm getting the sense Paulina will end up with Carlos. On Gema: now that she's Secretary of State. Is she next in line for the Presidency ?

UA: Wilson calling Paulina to meet in a dark alley was a BAD IDEA.

Karen: I think both Liz & Emilio will HATE Paulina if the truth comes out about the twins story.

Los Pinos must have some secret chambers or something LOL.

Great recap, Ria! 2 bad guys down: Wilson and Molina. But the treatment of Molina reflects very badly on the Mexican justice system. Can't tns do a PSA on this? There are a large number of men who have been released from prison and awarded damages in Chicago because of similar actions by 1 out-of-control police detective a number of years ago. I agree with Rvg Chick. I too thought Manuel would have a heart attack when he finally got it on with Paola--that's what is face was saying. At least Pedro finally did the right thing! Good for Lis! Even if she finally gets back together with Diego he deserves to suffer.

Thanks, Ria. The recap was excellent. Hope to see it before the new one tonight.

Thank you Ria.

How stupid do you have to be before you figure out you should not have gone down to a dark parking area with no secret service people to protect U
From crazyass disgruntled ex emplyees?
And I also think that Manuel murdered
Poor dumb Wilson. On purpose.

So who will the the rescuer be? Nava or carlos? Who dies during the rescue
Attemped? I don't think Manu has a chance of Surviving, or his sister..or whatever she is to him.
That was so stupid of paulina to go down there and she knew it was that's why She almost called for help. This is just for tv right? Cuz no self respecting government would allow the
First lady to go some place alone like
That. Right? Ok its just a story.

I don't like gema.

I vote arcadia unfit mother of the century. Give her a crown of poison ivy.

This was good Tia. Thanks. This will be a wild ride.

My auto correct wants to rename you "Tia" Ria. :-)

Niecie - agree with you and Diana. Diego is a nice boy indeed. I guess we can take heart in the knowledge that her learned that honesty is best upfront from this experience...

Urban - oh, I hope Paulina gets her identity back in the end. But wouldn't put it past the writers to not do it either at this point!

Susanlynn - so many gems of yours today: "Manhandled Manuel" and "Terryfying and APpaolaing" are simply amazing. Manuel did almost look scared when Paola made her move! Also I, too, would have preferred Paulina to stay with Nava, and am less enthused with this prospect now. But I so agree with you that Carlos is so 'meh' that it seems she is settling, but maybe I need to put a beanie on and believe her to be in love.

Steve - yes, so many loose ends still. Indeed - what about Andrea? Will they have time to resolve it all?

SpanProf - we are running out of the bad guys! Just the main ones left. I guess timely too, given we are inching closer to the end.

Jarifa - thanks for popping in! Hope your week is off to a good start.

Nina - it really was stupid of her to go down to the parking lot with Wilson, wasn't it? Oh, and thanks for bringing it up - I meant to comment that I wasn't sure if Manuel is such a great shot that he meant to shoot Wilson and happened to hit him with Paulina standing so close, or if he just accidentally pulled the trigger and could have shot Paulina just as easily!
