Cuna de Lobos, Capítulo 13 Wed. 11/6/19: Unruly Loose Ends

Catalina is meeting with Diego in her office. She has noticed he has seemed stressed lately and things and he is losing control.  As he protests to the contrary, Catalina reminds him about Ambar and then Luis's accident that almost cost her the life of her daughter in law grandchild.  He is just not cutting it and now there is  the situation with Sabrina. Catalina feels that he needs to go on vacation. He wants to know if he is being removed from the business  because he feels that he has been loyal in spite of knowing what he does. Catalina takes that as the second time he has threatened her.  He disagrees insisting he isn't that stupid.  Visibly upset, he wants to know what he can do to make things right again.  She gives him a task. Luis the reporter was snooping around yesterday.  She wants him to make sure that Luis understands he isn't to come around her or her family again. She still is offering the "vacation."   A knock on the door ends the conversation. It is Leonora who has come to get her for a photo shoot.

A leather gloved Diego goes to Luis's place and causes a general upheaval throwing some things around and breaking others. Luis comes home and finds that the door is unlocked.  He carefully enters, sees the mess and starts to  look around. When he goes into the bathroom, Diego comes up from the side and hits him in the head with his gun. Luis is left unconscious as Diego leaves the scene.

Back at the photoshoot. Catalina is modeling a huge pear shaped, colorless and flawless diamond called "the heart of ice" in a necklace.  Leonora remarks it must have been very difficult obtaining a diamond like that.  Catalina thinks that it is like all valuable things in this life that have a high price and take sacrifice to obtain. At the same time,  Luis is regaining consciousness in his bathroom. Catalina continues that  that sacrifice might be getting neck deep in the mud or even risking your life. You have to be open to doing anything. As Luis finds a photo of Matías with a bullet on top of it laying on the toilet lid, Catalina talks about perfection not being easy to achieve but when you do, you know it was worth it. Leonora starts the photoshoot of Catalina and her diamond.

There is a knock at Luis's door. It is Pedro. He is shocked when he sees the condition of Luis's place. Luis explains that someone came to threaten him. He explains about the bullet and the photo.

It is later in the day, Leonora is back home having a swim in the family pool. Alejandro is there but turns down her invitation to join her saying he is very tired and would rather sleep. Much to her disappointment, he says he is going up and will see her later in their room. José Carlos crosses paths with him and decides to join Leonora in the pool where they play around like two kids.

Catalina watches the swimmers from her room telling Gélica that José Carlos will use any excuse to try to get close to Leonora. She wants José Carlos to respect her as his brother's wife. She goes storming into Alejandro's room demanding to know why he isn't with Leonora.  Alejandro is in no mood to get into it again with her as she says he needs to keep up appearances with Leonora. Alejandro feels like he has kept his part of the deal and tells her if  such of a bother to her she should go down and break Leonora and José Carlos up herself.  She reminds him she is taking care of him in the same way she will take care of his son when he abandons him. Alejandro is rather taken aback by that statement and she reminds him that he did say that when this was all over he would go to be with his one true love.

Ambar tries to get out of taking tranquilizers at the hospital. The nurse insists she takes her pill anyway. Ambar pretends to take it but spits it out in the toilet after the nurse leaves.

As they put the apartment back together, Pedro asks Luis about that woman Ambar. Luis  hasn't talked to her again and her maid told him she wasn't quite right in the head.  Pedro reminds him taht she gave him all true information. Luis says her testimony would be useless because she is mentally ill. Luis declares that everyone has their limit as to what they can do. His is Matías and he will not put his child at risk. Pedro would do the same. Luis is done with it. Pedro says he can always count on him.

After Pedro leaves, Luis calls his ex.   She tells him that she and  Matías are coming  back to Mexico City.  Luis tries to talk her out of it. She and Matías are ready to get back to their normal lives. She doesn't think it is fair that they have to be their because of his . . . Luis cuts her off and says he can come and visit them. Matías hears them talking and runs out to talk to his dad.  After he is done, Luis's ex wants to know the truth. Luis cannot tell her but they have to stay there with her parents.

Back at the mansion, Catalina informs Leonora that it would be better if she swam with her husband rather than her brother in law.  Leonora asks why??? Catalina says because she is Alejandro's wife.  Leonora thinks this is beginning to sound real old fashioned like maybe she shouldn't even talk to José Carlos when Alejandro is not there. Catalina doesn't think that respecting your husband is old fashioned. She is only asking her to act like a married woman. They have an image to maintain. Catalina tells her to think about it.  Leonora immediately responds taht  she has nothing to think about.

Leonora storms into her bedroom and tells Alejandro about the incident with his mother and how she was told that as his wife she couldn't get too friendly with her brother in law. She didn't like the tone that Catalina took with her but they are lliving in Catalina's house after all. Alejandro thinks his mother said it because of José Carlos and thinks that Leonora is being too sensitive. He says he will talk to his mother. Leonora wants them to find their own home because she doesn't like being told how to live.  Alejandro tries to talk her into wanting to stay. Leonora has an idea. They can go live at Alejandro's apartment. Alejandro reluctantly says they could talk about it even though it is  small . . .

At the hospital, the doctor tells Francisco how much and how quickly Ambar has improved. if she keeps improving at this rate, they could treat her on an out patient basis.  Francisco talks to Ambar who admits to feeling good at the hospital because she feels safe.  She has no desire to go back home. She does no trust hi to take care of her. She tells him that trust is a two way street. Francisco asks what does he need to do to regain her trust.  She explains what happened to her: they tried to kill her and no, she is not making it up or is on drugs. She wants him to go to the gas station where the SUV was parked and get the video from their surveillance equipment so he can see her crawl out of the trunk where she was being held captive by Diego.  We see her in the past hidden watching Diego come out of the washroom and being asked about needing gas before he drove the SUV into the junk yard. She tells him tagain o go to the gas station and check those recordings.

At breakfast, Alejandro tells his mother to leave Leonora alone.  Hearing an argument brewing, Gélica  leaves the room. Catalina tells him not raise his voice and to calm down.  he tells her the short version: because of what she said about her and his brother, Leonora wants to move out to HIS apartment.  Catalina says that is fine by her. As Alejandro goes on to complain, Leonora arrives in a pleasant mood. Catalina tells her that Alejandro has been telling her about them wanting to move to his apartment.  She agrees that them moving out could be the best  but she has a proposal of her own: she will give them a house of their own as a gift from her. She had been thinking of doing that when the baby arrived anyway. Leonora is grateful but thinks that the apartment is really all  they need. Catalina has another SURPRISE! The apartment has been up for sale and  there are buyers. Leonora wonders why Alejandro didn't say anything about that when she brought it up. Catalina says she will have to get Gélica to have  the apartment cleaned.  Leonora gets a call from Clara. She asks Clara when did it happen?

Francisco arrives at THE gas station.

Leonora is talking to Luis. No, they didn't hurt him too badly and the best thing about the incident is that she came to see him. Leonora and he both smile.  She was really scared when Clara told her. Luis tells her he can survive anything and everything. Leonora sees them as two survivors. In a more serious moment, Leonora says that sometimes she wishes things were like they were before. Luis tries to et her to lighten up by asking if that is her way of saying that she misses him.  They both laugh. Leonora thinks they make a good team. It really hurt her when he cut her out. He is sure the Gothier company is enjoying her talent.  She would prefer to be working on an investigation.  They hug.

Diego is back with Catalina in her office. This time she informs him that one of the mules was carrying a double shipment. She wants to know what happened to the second package. Diego says it must have been Sabrina. he removed the diamonds himself but had thought there was only one package. Catalina asks if her diamonds are inside of a corpse that are at the bottom of a canal.  Diego says it was a mistake.  Catalina reminds him he has made two mistakes.  First Ambar, now this.  (Did she forget about Luis?)  Diego is befuddled about Ambar. She must have escaped when he stopped at a gas station to use the toilet. She tells him to make sure that  nothing can link them with Ambar. He asks about the diamonds. She tells him if the police  find the body she has the guilty party. Diego nervously smiles and leaves.

Francisco talks to an employee at the gas station about getting the security footage.  He refuses to look for the footage or turn it over because Francisco does not have a court order. Francisco does have cash though and that is all he needs with the promise of more money when Francisco receives the footage he has requested.

Leonora goes back to the mansion to get the keys to Alejandro's apartment.  She finds out from Gélica that Teresa is going to go clean the apartment. Leonora gets the keys from Teresa saying Alejandro wanted her to pick up a few things. Gélica calls Catalina telling her that Leonora has the keys. Catalina tells Alejandro about the keys and his first response is: so what?   She has to tell him to get to his apartment ASAP in case anything compromising has been left there. Alejandro leaves for his apartment.

Leonora arrives at the apartment and takes some photos of the view and then starts looking around.

As Alejandro is racing to his car trying to call Leonora, Alvaro wants to know if everything is okay between them since Alejandro and he have not talked since they were at the dance club.  Alejandro makes it clear that there is NOTHING between them.

Leonora goes upstairs to the bedroom and discovers closets and drawers full of men's clothing and shoes. She gets a call from Clara who wants to know if she got to talk to Luis. She says she did and fortunately he wasn't in bad shape.  Clara notices something is wrong in Leonora's voice. Leonora confides in her and tells her she is in Alejandro's apartment and it still looks like he lives there even though it is being sold.  She thinks the clothes belong to him. Clara offers no real help and tells her at least she did not find women's clothing and that Alejandro probably lent out his apartment to a friend unless her husband is gay.  Clara adds  that if she goes looking for trouble, she will most certainly find it. Leonora should be thinking about how she wants to decorate the apartment.  In the meantime, Alejandro is racing to get here. Leonora sits down with a  laptop that she has found and Alejandro has finally arrived. Leonora says she thought they were selling the apartment but it is full of belongings.  He says they are all his. He asks if she likes the apartment. She loves it. She asks him to cancel the sale. No, he is stuck on the house Catalina is going to give them. She doesn't need a house. She loves the kitchen in the apartment. They go off to the kitchen and leave the laptop behind.

Francisco has brought Diego's banking records to Catalina. His last deposit, which must have been a huge one, occurred on the same day of the shipment when he supposedly forgot one of he diamond packages inside of  Sabrina's body.  Catalina concludes that Diego had been stealing from them all of this time because he knew she could never file a complaint against him.  Francisco says they can file charges against him for attempted murder. Ambar insists he wanted to kill her  and had her in the trunk of the SUV.  She escaped at a gas station.  Catalina cannot believe that! Francisco tells her he is waiting for security footage from the  gas station even as they speak. Catalina says poor Ambar has suffered so  much if it all turns out to be true. Francisco adds that Ambar thinks that Diego was carrying out Catalina's orders. Francisco gets the call he was waiting for and the surveillance footage is emailed to him with the promise of extra money.  There we see Ambar crawling out of the trunk.

Catalina warns Diego not to go near the gas station because Francisco was already there for the security tape footage. She orders him to go back  home and get his things together because he is going to have to disappear for a while. She will take care of Francisco. She will meet him at his house and bring him the plane tickets, money and everything else he needs to get out of town. Diego laughs and asks how does he know that this is not a trap?   She tries to calm him down by saying they are in this together and know everything about each other. Just because of that he wants her to bring him the money and tickets personally and all alone.  If he sees the police or anyone else . . . She tells  him he doesn't need to threaten her. He ends by saying that she knows what he is capable of.

Francisco is back in Catalina's office with the security footage and an irate José Carlos demanding answers why Diego was doing that to his aunt.  He finds the whole situation very weird and he is going to find out exactly what happened. José Carlos storms out.  Francisco tells Catalina they cannot
turn Diego over to the police. He could destroy them. He won't just sit around and do nothing after what he did to Ambar.

José Carlos fills Leonora in about Diego and what he did to Ambar. She asks if he was arrested already. José Carlos says no.  Catalina and Francisco like to keep things quiet so the press doesn't get wind of it. Everyone thought poor Ambar was just imagining things. Leonora helps to calm José Carlos down. He asks about her work and tells her that "image" is the most important thing for  those who run the company. They look over her work on her laptop and he unexpectedly sees the video where Luis asks Catalina the uncomfortable question about diamond trafficking.  José Carlos asks if Luis is the reporter that Leonora worked with and why he would asks that question. She explains that Luis her co-worker was doing an investigation on that topic but never finished it.

Later, José Carlos pays Luis a visit at the office. First, he apologizes for how he treated Luis the previous time they met then he asks him about his investigation into diamond trafficking. Luis explains he started an investigation but never finished it.There is nothing to discuss. José Carlos says he is on his side because he also thinks that Gothier is involved in diamond trafficking.

Catalina agrees about Diego knowing way too much about them and being able to destroy them.  Francisco wants him punished. Catalina tells him not to worry about that. Catalina knows how to handle the situation.

Diego is getting ready to leave town when Catalina arrives at his place. He lets her in with a bag of  cash. He opens it to count the cash saying that he never should have trusted her as she pulls a gun on him. She tells him he just made another mistake and this one will cost him. Diego smiles and says that everyone will know that she was the one who shot him. Catalina says EXACTLY!  Because of the diamond trafficking, she will say he tried to blackmail her, she defended herself and that is the end of the story. She has no other choice. He tells her that she has underestimated him and grabs the gun. A struggle for the gun ensues.

Jarifa, a picture perfect title!

Your recaps are so enthralling, so utterly well written, they are the highlight of my day! This was superb.

"the heart of ice". Could there have been a more fitting model? Catlina's icy countenance wearing pure fire.

Of course Catalina’s ridiculous admonishment to Leonora to “be with her husband” reflects her awareness of how one might be tempted to cheat with one’s own husband’s brother. Afraid history will repeat itself? Leonora’s spunk was not quite what she expected.

While a bit surprised Francisco actually seemed to have thought Ambar might be telling some version of the truth and actually followed up, my appreciation stopped there. How could he not make the connection to Catalina?? If he believed his wife in one regard, why not as to who is behind everything? I think Catalina has him in a trance, and I think he doesn't realize it, but he is afraid, deep down. Francisco is just not too bright. What a wasted opportunity.

Leonora's a little spitfire. I like that. Still not completely warm to her but honestly, I'm trying. She and Jose Carlos are a great couple, but with Catalina's spidey senses already aroused...

Is there no where Luis can keep Matias safe? If not, Luis should just leave. He can't put his son in such danger.

Alejandro's little love nest has been discovered. A few minutes more and surely Leonora's eyes would have been wide open.

Looks like another murder is about to occur. Coldly, I will not miss this victim at all.

Amiga, you've outdone yourself once again. Splendid. Gracias!

Diana

Always love your titles, Jardinera. Unruly indeed! A number of things seem to be slipping out of Catalina's grasp including the gun itself that she turned on Diego. And for a whiny, sad little victimish Ambar, she's turning out to be amazingly resourceful, determined and lucky. Having survived so far, I certainly hope that she makes it to the end.

The actress cast as Leonora is very much the average woman, which we are not used to in telenovelas. Not bosomy. Rather wide hips. Average face and hair. But appealing in a "real life" way. Cares about having a meaningful career and meaningful friendships.

We've come to expect incredible, unbelievable beauties as well as amazingly buff, muscular men. But how many of these types do we know in real life!? I do have one friend who has always been the most beautiful woman in the room. And in her early 80's can still turn heads. But that's the only one I know. Rather nice to have someone believably average for a change.

Thanks as always for a very complete, informative recap.

Great one, Jarifa.

I knew Diego would be considered expendable. He was probably preparing to just disappear to avoid paying for his past crimes and to get as far away from Catalina as possible. He had to have located a fence long before this to be able to sell those diamonds that quickly.

The necklace she modeled is gorgeous. I want it!

Catalina's lack of boundaries is truly bothering me. She has had Alejandro's apartment keys all along, so she would not do otherwise with house keys. Did she give him the apartment? Whose name is on the deed? He needs to put his foot down, but it sounds more like Leonora will do that for him.

Jarifa, you are one awesome recapper and title master. Thank you for this exquisite retelling of last night's events.

Poor Diego, he is doomed after being such a faithful dog. But (unfortunately), Catalina had a point; he was making a lot of errors and she couldn't afford to risk any more...though she is making her own mistakes. One of her many faults is that she thinks she is invincible. You would think that anyone who comes within 10 feet of her could see, smell and taste her wickedness. Hmmm I wonder what perfume she uses? :-)

Diana, "Leonora's a little spitfire. I like that. Still not completely warm to her but honestly, I'm trying." Yeah, she's starting to grow on me too, especially when she throws those little fireballs at Cat.

RGVChick, I would say Poison by Calvin Klein.

Diego could not have opened the trunk in front of the man in the scrapyard, although he could have checked the trunk before pulling into it. He was not responsible for Sabrina's gut getting ripped. He could not have anticipated Leonora getting on the motorcycle. His biggest mistake was to steal half the diamonds he retrieved and not hightail it out of the country immediately after depositing the money he got for them.

Francisco should be asking himself what motive Diego would have had to kill Ambar.

"Poison" Good one, UA!

"Francisco should be asking himself what motive Diego would have had to kill Ambar." Exactly!! And as Diana so eloquently stated, "While a bit surprised Francisco actually seemed to have thought Ambar might be telling some version of the truth and actually followed up, my appreciation stopped there. How could he not make the connection to Catalina?? If he believed his wife in one regard, why not as to who is behind everything? I think Catalina has him in a trance, and I think he doesn't realize it, but he is afraid, deep down. Francisco is just not too bright." The man has blinders on when it comes to Catalina; he doesn't want to see who she really is and what she is capable of.

Good morning, all, as I sit here thinking it must be January outside: time to get the down out and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet! : (

Anyway, these episodes are intense, aren’t they? You can’t look away for a second without missing something.I am hoping Diego manages to knock Catalina out and gets to skedaddle with his riches, therefore, also managing to remain as an omnipresent threat out there. It might help push Catalina over the edge.

Diana, I agree that Leonora is turning out to be a “little spitfire”. I didn’t think I ever expected her to grow a backbone. She is growing on me, too. I can’t wait to see her when the baby arrives.

JudyB, interesting comments about the “everywoman” characteristics of Leonora. So true about the physical “knockouts” being few and far between in real life. Then I think of the physical beauty of Catalina who ended up with an average looking
husband and lover. Gives you a lot to think about in terms of casting.

Urban you and me both a fan of that necklace. A stone of that size being colorless and without inclusions would cost a fortune. Catalina sure knows how to go big which is one thing I love about this novela: the bigger than life portrayals that operate with impunity. Guess these all end up being morality plays.

RgvChick, loved your description of Diego “ . . . He is doomed after being such a faithful dog.” Also, true about him becoming a liability. I hope he survives to help do Catalina in.

Jarifa--I haven't seen the episode yet, but read every juicy word of the recap. Thank you.

I'm so looking forward to the playful pool scene and to Cat's struggle with Diego. If she is wounded, how is she going to explain it. Why did she go to see Diego by herself. She's the main character who has to last until the end, so we all know Diego will somehow be out of her life--dead or making a clean getaway.

Hmmm. Whenever there is a struggle with a gun between two people, tn's rules are rigid. Watchers never know who will die, or get mortally wounded until the next episode. There never seems to be an occasion where the bullet doesn't find some fleshy part or the gun does not go off. It usually hits the one least expected. Either this is a turning point, or tn rules are being updated.

Excellent recap as usual, Jarifa! Oh ho! Diego was stealing from Catalina (probably, unless Catalina framed him to justify her killing him, but that's unlikely). No wonder he showed such absolute loyalty to her no matter what. He was profiting immensely from their association.

Excellent work, Jarifa!

Diego is probably dunzo. He did do a pretty bad job with the Sabrina incident and Ámbar as well. I wonder if Catalina actually anticipated Francisco getting the camera footage. When there's money involved it's a little easier to get what you want.

"Heart of ice". Bravo, writers. Lol

I'm glad that despite Luis' romantic feelings he and Leonora can remain friends. No point in losing a friendship over that particular issue. I hope neither are victims of murderous Catalina.

I too agree that Leonora is starting to get some backbone. We all know why Alejandro doesn't care about Leonora being alone with JC. He clearly knows how JC is but Catalina probably suspects Leonora may be reciprocating JC. Leonora is one step closer to finding out the truth. Alejandro wasn't exactly careful when he was with Mora. Lucky for Alejandro that Miguel is in another country.

I think I might like a JC/Luis alliance lol

JC and Luis have enough brain cells to solve this puzzle but -- as I said yesterday -- I hope the writers don't do a Caridad Bravo Adams on his with these two.

I have the feeling that Leonors will end up with JC.

Oops; I meant on us

Anita, your succinct detailing of tn gun rules has me smiling because it is so true! This was another outstanding episode.

SpanProf, I wonder how long Diego was stealing from the company.

TF, loved “Diego is probably dunzo.” That is a keeper!

Urban, what is a “Caridad Bravo Adams”?

Caridad Bravo Adams was the author of a number of novels stories including the great Corazon Salvaje. Many of her others have triangles which are typically resolved by killing one of the men in or just before the finale.

Thanks, Urban.

I know the name but wasn’t sure which telenovelas Caridad has done. Too many names of different producers/directors to remember lol and I didn’t watch CS. IF that happens I’d rather JC live and Alejandro not...idk...it is a bit tough of a choice.

Here is the IMDb page with her credits. Most of her originals were redone a number of times.

"Poor Diego, he is doomed after being such a faithful dog". HA!!! Love it Rgv Chick :)

Jarifa, thank you for asking about Caridad and Urban, thanks for the answer. Honestly? I'm wondering if survivors are going to be very few (thinking Ten Little Indians)…

TF, I think JC and Luis would make a great team. What gorgeous actors. That said, JC is passionate and engaging. Luis is serious and cautious. JC throws caution to the wind and is just the far more exciting choice. I still think Leonora never harbored any romantic feelings for Luis. It will be interesting to see how her relationship with JC develops if indeed it does.

Diana
