Cuna de lobos, Capítulo 18 Wed. 11/13/19: Two Hits and a Miss--OR--Skulking with Alvaro

As Alejandro looks up from kissing Miguel, he catches sight of a horrified Leonora who is exiting as fast as she can. He goes after her and apologizes saying he didn't want her to find out like this. She tells him she heard everything that he and Miguel said to each other. She doesn't want to hear anymore. She runs away screaming for him to stay away from her.  Alejandro is visibly upset. Leonora sobs and screams at herself for being an idiot as she sits in her car. As she manages to drive away, Alvaro steps out of the shadows.

Ambar is talking to Francisco the best she can. She says she told him it was true.  He answers saying that Catalina admitted to it all. Francisco asks her to forgive him and adds that he should have believed her.  He informs her that Alejandro left in a desperate state and is rightfully angry. She adds that Alejandro had to know and to give  some time. Francisco isn't sure he can forgive himself. Ambar dissolves in tears and tells him he always refused to believe her. With tears in his own eyes, Francisco assumes the blame for Ambar's current condition because everything she said was true. Ambar tells him that Catalina is a . . . Francisco finishes the sentence with "murderer."

Gélica is on the phone with Catalina informing her that Leonora just arrived at the house very upset and that she is packing things up and loading suitcases, including the baby's things, in her car. Catalina wants to talk to Leonora as she is leaving with the baby.  Gélica tries to get Leonora to talk to Catalina and stop her from leaving by blocking the hallway. Gélica insists that Catalina has the right to know what is going on. Leonora thinks not. Leonora finally takes the phone and slams it down hanging up on Catalina. She then removes her engagement ring and the wedding band and leaves them next to the phone. Gélica finally moves out of the way and Leonora leaves the house. Catalina calls back and Gélica tells her that she couldn't stop Leonora.

As Leonora is packing up the baby into the car, José Carlos has just arrived and wants to know what is going on.  A very upset Leonora tells him about finding Alejandro and Miguel together kissing and talking about how much they loved each other, about not being able to be together and about her.  He suggests that she talk to Alejandro. She becomes even more upset when she realizes that José Carlos knew about the Alejandro/Miguel situation from the start and yet said nothing to her in spite of José Carlos saying he was going to take care of her and protect her. He wants to "explain" this "very complicated situation."  She ends asking him why he let her be used like this. She has a child now and he is just like Alejandro and his mother.  Their family is garbage.  As he stands in front of her car, she tells him to get out of the way which he does. Leonora leaves.

Back at the building site, Miguel tries to calm Alejandro down saying that Leonora had to find out sooner or later and maybe this was the best for everyone concerned. .Alejandro didn't want it to be like this.  Alvaro watches everything as he skulks around. Alejandro insists on going off on his own to take care of this matter. José Carlos calls him to give him the news that Leonora has left with the baby. Alejandro is sick of telling him to butt out of his life. José Carlos reminds him that it isn't only his life now but that Leonora and his son are involved. Alejandro knows what he has to do and drives off. Alvaro continues his skulking.

At home, an angry Catalina is  blaming Alejandro for what happened. She wants him to call Leonora and have her return the baby ASAP as she doesn't want a scandal.. Alejandro tells her to leave Leonora in peace but understands that she wouldn't want everyone to know what she would be capable of doing for money.  Catalina insists she is doing all of this for Alejandro and wants her grandson back. Alejandro informs her that her grandson is useless to her because he (Alejandro) is not Carlos's son. He turns leaves and she calls after him. Gélica turns over the rings that Leonora left behind to Catalina. Gélica explains that Leonora  took one of their cars. Leonora tells her to contact the insurance company and have them locate the car. Catalina needs to know where Leonora  is and whom she is with.

Leonora ends up with Luis at his place.  Alejandro tries to call her but she isn't answering.

As Luis holds the baby, Leonora is telling him she cannot believe how stupid she was with getting involved with Alejandro. Luis tries to tells her it is best just to move on, she recounts how Luis told her about seeing Alejandro at a gay club. She thought he said that because he was jealous. Luis admits that he was. Leonora admits she was so stupidly in love. Luis suggests that is the only way we fall in love. She goes on to remember Alejandro talking with somebody on the phone and about needing the other person close by but then he convinced her he was talking to his uncle. Alejandro even acted offended when she asked about it. Then he just got colder and more distant with her as time passed. He wasn't even with her when Edgar was born and didn't even ask how she was doing.
She goes on to talk about the strange calls she was getting telling her to take her blindfold off and realizes that everyone knew what the situation was with Alejandro except for her. Someone is knocking at the door. It is a very upset José Carlos.  Luis  sends him on his way telling him that Leonora doesn't want to talk to him and that he will take care of her. Luis tells Leonora that he is gone. Leonora doesn't know what to do.  Luis tells her she won't let this destroy he.

At Gothier, Francisco is busy destroying his personal business files when Catalina walks in with a paper asking what it is. He explains it is his letter of resignation.  She is in no mood for one of his snits. She hid the parentage of Alejandro for everyone's good.  Francisco is not buying it. Is that why she tried to kill Ambar, too?  She cannot believe he is bringing that up again. Well, Francisco has to tell her that Ambar told him herself and he believed her. Catalina wants to know since when is he  so concerned about his wife. He calls her a disgusting person.  She admits to being trash but that never stopped him from sleeping with her for all of those years. Francisco admits to now being full of regret for having slept with her.  Catalina asks if he is going to call the police and hands him her phone. Well,  if he isn't going to call, she can. She can tell them that Vega discovered that  Diego got his orders from someone very important inside the company. His wife wanted to kill her. They discovered a cadaver filled with diamonds and it all can be traced back to Francisco.  Francisco tells her nobody would believe that story. Catalina says she has him in her hands and she knows he  loves that. Her tone has softened as she turns on the sex appeal. She feels like he wants to make love to her right there. She tells him to just do it. She is all over him and he grabs her face and neck as he always does, but this time he is much rougher and stares at her with pure revulsion.  He whispers in her ear that she is disgusting a couple of times and pushes her away. He goes to take his phone and she reminds him it is the property of the company. Francisco thinks that Catalina is afraid he will go to the police. She says what makes her afraid is knowing what she is capable of doing to him if he moves just one finger against her.  He leaves.

José Carlos is on the phone talking to Luis about Leonora. Little does he know that Gélica is eavesdropping. Luis tells him that Leonora is calmer this morning. José Carlos wants Luis to tell her to try and trust him because soon everything will be over. He mentions he is going to meet with Bustamante to talk about the progress of the case and he will bring him the rest of the evidence that he has. Luis reminds him that the judge will be the most important person in all of this. He will have to be honest and beyond the reach of Catalina's influence. Luis asks him to keep him up to date. José Carlos tells Luis to let him know if Leonora needs anything.

Gélica has gotten an earful and calls Catalina and tells her she now has a good idea where they can find Leonora.

Catalina shows up at Luis's apartment wanting to see Leonora.  Luis doesn't want to let her in but Leonora has decided she wants to talk to Catalina.  Leonora asks a reluctant head-shaking Luis to leave the two of them alone as Catalina starts talking by saying she doesn't know where to begin. Catalina starts with informing Leonora how difficult it is for a mother to recognize that her child has flaws because our children are perfect as far as we are concerned.   She knows that Leonora will find that out soon.  Catalina recognizes that Alejandro committed a terrible mistake but he is ready to make it all right if Leonor will just forgive him. Catalina asks her to think of her child. Leonora looks incredulous and cannot believe how selfish Catalina is. Leonora doesn't hold anything back. She knows that Catalina was the one who planned the whole scheme. She heard Alejandro and Miguel talking about it. Catalina tries to lie that away but it doesn't work.  Leonora accuses her of ruining her life and  her son's life preventing him to be with the man he loves.  Leonora cannot believe that Catalina would have to nerve to dare to show up and to continue lying to her face. Leonora cannot believe she is that wretched. Catalina  asks he how dare she say that to her. Leonora asks how dare Catalina ask  her to forgive Alejandro when Catalina is the one who should be asking her for forgiveness. Catalina might be very tolerant but she doesn't like the tone that Leonora has taken with her. Leonora adds that if Catalina wants her to respect her, she should know that all she feels for her is pity. That doesn't sit well with Catalina. She wants Leonora home with her grandchild. She would hate to have to go to court.  Leonora suddenly realizes that she wants to take her child away from her. Well, she will have to kill her first. Catalina does not agree because Leonora is so upset she is not in the best condition to raise a child. Catalina smirks and leaves.

José Carlos talks with Bustamante. Bustamante recognizes the dead woman smuggler as a regular with the traffickers.  They had her date of entry to the country over seven months ago but there was never an exit date according to the immigration department. Bustamante shows José Carlos her body that was found a few days ago and adds that on the inside of it they found diamonds. When they followed her trail at the airport they found Diego involved.  He was the connection between the South African traffickers and Gothier. José Carlos wants to know who his bosses were. Bustamante has the crime gang's structure pictured on his computer. Below Diego are the worker bees.  Above him is Francisco Larios and the one at the top of the heap  is Catalina Creel. José Carlos also thinks that his father was involved in the  diamond trafficking. Catalina told him that his father hired Diego to front for all of the Gothier businesses. Bustamante wants him to know that if they continue the investigation there is no going back whatever happens. José Carlos understands that.  Bustamanate says the next thing will be to get a judge involved to issue an order to search all of the Gothier jewelry stores and freeze all of their accounts. That is how the law will make its way to Catalina Creel.

Outside of the government building, Vega has been surveilling the comings and goings of Bustamante  per order of Catalina. He has Catalina on the phone and tells her Bustamante just came out.  Catalina wants  him  to just do it and get it over with because she needs some good news.   That is not so easy because José Carlos has also appeared with him. She sees it as an opportunity to get two for one. As Bustamante and José Carlos split up, Vega has his sharpshooter in the back seat do the dirty work. Everyone hits the ground but Bustamante doesn't make it and  is hit multiple times. José Carlos watches from the pavement.  Vega leaves the scene.

Vega fills in Catalina about the shooting but admits to only having killed Bustmante. He still sees that as a victory because the main objective was eliminated. She does not agree. Vega tells her that all that José Carlos can say is a vehicle  went by and shot the prosecutor. He tries to calm her down telling her that the case will take forever to go anywhere again. The Attorney General's office  will have to choose a new prosecutor and he will have to start from the beginning.  It will take forever. She is worried about getting another Bustamante. He assures her there isn't another one like him but if there were,  evidence could always disappear . . . As he strokes her hand,  he assures her that she will run no risks at his side. The intimate moment is broken up by José Carlos screaming out Catalina's name. He comes barging in. She wants to know what happened. He thinks she must be surprised to see him. He starts calling her a murderer and Vega has to hold him back. He wonders if she has "a" death on her conscience. She couldn't quite do him in but he has news for her. He is going to follow her and he swears he is going to bring her down. He leaves and Catalina is left shaking her head at an unnerved Vega.

At the building site, Miguel suggests that he get a transfer from his company and then  both of them can go far away and leave this all behind. Alejandro has the usual excuses why they cannot go: he has to get his life together and straighten things out.  Also, Miguel has to finish his project.  Alejandro gets a call.  It is Francisco.  He doesn't answer. Miguel encourages him to talk things out with Francisco.  He needs to be heard.

Alejandro meets with Francisco in a bar.  Francisco swears he knew nothing about being his father. Alejandro wants to know how he could have done this to his own blood, his brother.  Francisco knows it was a mistake and takes responsibility for it. He asks Alejandro not to be so hard on him. Alejandro asks if he is expecting a party to celebrate the fact that his uncle is really his father. As Francisco talks about mistakes, Alejandro asks about the one where he deceived his brother and his wife for 25 years.  Francisco asks if that is not what Alejandro been doing to Leonora and his son. Francisco doesn't want to see him end up like him because he is with the wrong person.  Alejandro doesn't want to be compared to him in any way because they are very different. he has no interest n hearing anything else. Francisco reminds him they are not innocent and the reason he doesn't want to hear anymore is because he is afraid of the truth. Francisco can agree on one thing: neither of them is innocent. Yes, he is lying and betraying Leonora but he is Francisco's son after all,  isn't he?   He leaves.

Leonora gets a phone call. It is Miguel. He wants to talk to Leonora. She is not very interested. He tells her what she heard and saw is the truth. He and Alejandro have been together for three years. She really doesn't want to know the details. He wants her to know that she was put into this position because of someone else's ambition. Both he and she have been the victimized by the same person. That is why he would like to talk to her face to face and get the truth out. Alejandro is packing a bag to leave the house when he gets a text from Miguel telling him that Leonora is coming out to talk to him. He is going to tell her the whole truth. Alejandro is planning on coming out to talk, too. Miguel texts him back it would be better if he didn't come.  Catalina is coming in as he is leaving. She wants to explain things to him and not lose him. He is not interested in the least bit.  She knew how to stay nice and quiet so her husband wouldn't throw her out on the streets, so her son would collect the inheritance but most of all so she could still have her brother in law as her lover. He adds that Leonora is just about to find out the whole truth from Miguel and that the party is over. He ends his tirade with telling her that she defends herself much better when she says nothing. He leaves.

Catalina wipes Leonora's wedding band clean.

Leonora shows up at the building site with the baby. After the security guard lets her in and leaves, she rightfully finds the situation creepy and decides to leave.

José Carlos and Luis meet. José Carlos shows Luis a photo of Vega. Luis is familiar with him having investigated him for corruption more than once.  José Carlos tells him he is now working for Catalina. Luis is bummed out by that news. Luis says they are going to have to start all over with a new prosecutor. José Carlos is afraid he might be corrupt, too. Luis says they have no other choice. José Carlos tells him that Bustamante had a file just filled with things ready to give the judge.  Luis reminds him that they cannot trust anybody. The same judge could have been warned  Catalina so she cold  put a hit out on Bustamante.

Alvaro is still calling and trying to sweet talk Alejandro. He won't take "no"for an answer and Alejandro does not hang up quick enough. Alvaro is still hanging out at the building site. He congratulates Alejandro on being free. All Alvaro really wants to know is if he with Miguel. Alejandro finally hangs up.

Alvaro sees a black car driven by a woman arrive at the building site. He watches. It is Catalina who finds her way up to where Miguel is standing and smoking on an upper floor of the still unfinished building. He asks how she got in. She warns him about not having a better security system because anyone can walk in the way it is. She tells him she is there to settle some issues with him. Miguel sees nothing they have to settle. He would just love to have her leave him and Alejandro in peace. They love each other. What is so hard to understand? They do not want to hurt anyone. Catalina says he is wrong. He and his love for Alejandro have hurt people. He has destroyed their family. He has no idea how Leonora is. Miguel turns it right back on her blaming Catalina herself for Leonora's current state and the destruction of the family. She made Alejandro get married. Miguel had nothing to do with it. Catalina thinks if he really loved Alejandro, he would leave him in peace. She cannot do anything to separate him from Alejandro.  He tells her to go and walks away from her.

Luis asks Leonora if Alejandro has called her. The answer is NO. She says that is why Catalina came instead. Alejandro is glued to her.

Alvaro is watching Catalina and Miguel several stories up at the building site. He decides to  record the interaction. As Miguel continues walking to the edge of the building, Catalina follows him still talking. Miguel tells her this is all about love. He would have loved for this  to have been another way. He doesn't need her approval to be with her son. He tells her to go again twice. She turns away from him then spins around with force and pushes the unsuspecting Miguel over the edge of the building. He falls and lands in a heap. Alvaro has it all recorded on his phone.  As Catalina looks at the body, Alvaro is out of there.

What a recap!

What an episode! What a sordid mess...

Jarifa, I could not wait to read what you wrote and as usual, you exceeded my highest expectations. All the actions, words and events were covered. Flawlessly. Loved the title.

This was on the edge of your seat excitement. Fast, furious and bewildering as to what in heaven's name was going to be next.

In spite of her heart being broken, kind hearted Leonora understood and stated immediately that Catalina had kept Alejandro from the man he loved. And her perceived treachery of José Carlos was not altogether wrong. He betrayed the woman he loved for a brother who never loved him. Loyalty. But to the wrong person.

Bustamante, we hardly knew ye. His body being riddled with bullets would put any similar "Godfather" scene to shame. Graphic. Yet horrifyingly mesmerizing.

The saddest scene for me was Francisco's tearful admission to Ambar. His confession, his all too late realization she had been telling the truth. His guilt and rightful shame.

The most astonishing thing for me was the look of fear and total amazement on Alvaro's face when Miguel was pushed to his death. No cool as a cucumber look there.

Stern Luis keeping every emotion bottled up played as expected. I keep wondering if it will be either he or José Carlos that survives. I'm sure the deadly praying mantis has at least one more murder in her.

"Catalina wipes Leonora's wedding band clean". Why???

"Leonora suddenly realizes that she wants to take her child away from her. Well, she will have to kill her first". I wish those words had not been uttered.

Jarifa, another jewel in your crown. Gracias amiga.

Diana

Jarifa: Not shocked about Bustamante getting whacked. Catalina is really determined to increase the Body Count.

Wasn't shocked about Miguel getting whacked either. NEVER turn your back on a bloodthirsty psychopath.

Diana: Good luck JC on trying to bring down Catalina.

CDL finale will be on Tuesday November 26, no Cuna tonight or tomorrow.

Diana, I, too, was impressed that Leonora stood up for Alejandro’s right to be with the man he loved. Her character has suddenly become more interesting now she has the baby to protect. Francisco is just too little too late. With Alvaro witnessing the murder, NOW he might really have some idea of who he is dealing with.

Steve, I think we saw that push off the building coming as Miguel was walking closer and closer to the edge.

Alexander, I appreciate the info. Thanks.

Jarifa - An excellent recap of a shocking episode. I guess the key question is: what does Alvaro do with his cell phone's information? Does he try to blackmail Catalina and risk joining the departed or does he try to show Alejandro what his mommy did?Catalina still has a week to make her moves.

HEADS UP: no CUNA tonight or tomorrow night. Latin Grammy show tonight, soccer tomorrow.

You have raised THE question, Anon, perfectly put. Alvaro, a relatively minor character, has taken center stage.

Catalina is the best portrayal of a psychopath I've seen in novelas...

Gracias, Jarifa. Great job on a shocking episode.

I personally would have not minded if Catalina had offed Alvaro. Considering his past actions I will predict that he will be stupid enough to try to blackmail her. Stupid enough because he doesn't know her history. He could end up dead within the last seven episodes. The problem is that the alternative -- going to the police -- would not necessarily be any safer. He's not smart enough to figure that out either. His best bet would be to get as far away as possible and send the video anonymously to someone. However his obsession with Alejandro will not take him down any intelligent path.

Francisco knows too much about the diamond smuggling. Ambar knows too much about the rest. Neither of them is safe.

Nor are Luis, JC, or Leonora. When Catalina cleaned off the rings (?) she put DNA from a hairbrush into them. Whose hairbrush was it? Since this was done in Alejandro's apartment it could have been his or Miguel's.

She is likely to be preparing to kill Leonora and frame someone else for it, but whom?

As for the future fate of Gothier I think it's done for. If anything is salvageable after the police investigation (if that ever happens) we know that JC doesn't want it. Alejandro might not, either. I am not sure what Mexican law would do with this situation because while Carlos was his father on the Presumption of Paternity issue and he -- theoretically -- raised him, should he not be regarded as the legal father regardless of DNA? Does a judge have the discretion to make this ruling?

Finally, Catalina threatening Leonora with charging her unfit to raise a child almost made me laugh but she has gotten away with so much. Baby Edgar could be useless to her if the public found out that Carlos didn't sire Alejandro. If Francisco publicly stated that he was unaware of having done so he might not be believed.

Miguel's death will cause JC, Luis, and Leonora to be on the alert.

More later and Hugo, you are so right.

Great recap, Jarifa. A lot to cover in this episode.

A big mistake for Alejandro to tell Catalina that Leonora was meeting with Miguel. Leonora was smart to leave but at the same time someone like Catalina and even Alejandro could certainly dispute that and use it against Leonora. Who would even believe Catalina was there especially if Alvaro doesn’t take immediate action with the evidence he has.

Alvaro could be an anonymous witness but he just has to figure out who to give the information to. I wonder too if he expects money in return. If he can’t turn the video into the police his best bet may be José Carlos and/or Luis.

I did not like that Gélica told Catalina where to find Leonora. With her loyalty and romantic feelings towards Catalina I don’t know if that's a guarantee she will be around until the final episode.

As weird as it may sound one of my favorite parts of this episode was when Luis was shaking his head at Leonora unseen by Catalina. Leonora handled herself pretty well during that confrontation but she might still be underestimating Catalina. And what Leonora said about “you’ll have to kill me first”
Catalina could certainly make that happen.

The conversation between Alejandro and Francisco was intense and what Francisco said rings true: neither he nor Alejandro is innocent. Alejandro is his parents son. If Francisco isn’t on the body count list by the end of this he should go to prison.

Definitely.

The problem is that Alejandro does not suspect that his mother is a murderess. She could be trying to frame Leonora for the murder of Miguel. If Alvaro has any decency in him he would have to come forward with the video if Leonora gets arrested. If he runs true to form he will try to extort sex from Alejandro for that. That would be monumentally stupid.

Gelica is sick, too, but I don't think she knows that Catalina is a killer. The flashback about the incident with the bow and arrow looked as though Catalina told her that story and that it was a lie. JC was remembering it during his shrink session and it was different.

BTW, that blouse she wore in last night's episode was a snakeskin pattern. She is a venomous snake, not a she-wolf.

Urban, I had forgotten about the hairbrush. So, that is what she was doing - I couldn't figure it out. Thank you.

I thought Catalina was going to try and frame Leonora for Miguel's murder. So,is she going to try and do that and then kill Leonora to wrap everything up with a bow?The wild card is Alejandro. Will he stay quiet about his parentage, especially after he learns Miguel's fate? His chance for happiness died with Miguel.

Diane

Hugo, yes! This portrayal is absolutely chilling.

Urban, funny comment about the snake print. The way they photograph Catalina she always reminds me of a cobra hovering over her prey.

TF, that was a memorable scene with Luis shaking his head. I, too, was wondering by Leonora would even bother to try to deal with Catalina. She is out of her league unless she is willing to risk it all.

ITA that the hairbrush/rings part was confusing. They have some explaining to do on that one.

So, we have to wait all the way to Monday for the next installment. Disappointing.

An excellent recap as usual, Jarifa! This time of a horrifying episode--almost makes me sorry I invested time in this novela. :( Oh no! Not Miguel! But what was he thinking, planning to meet anyone, even Leonora, on that unfinished high rise? Maybe just to make things convenient for the writers?

Jarifa, thanks for that excellent recap of a chilling episode.

Catalina is the reforesTation of a stone cold killer. She shows absolutely no emotion, nowh remorse.

Watching Miguel at the edge of that high rise, I had to change the channel. Now what will Alvaro do. The writers must have had a purpose for having him there filming it on his cellphone. What a different world we now live in with everyone capable of capturing anything anywhere anytime on their cellphones.

Only death will stop Catalina. Who will stop her ?

SpanProf, they really have pulled out all stops with this one which makes it rather unique. Also, another reason that it is better shorter than longer.

Susanlynn, would it not be odd if Alvaro ended up being the “hero” of this tale bringing Catalina down with his recording? I don’t know what to expect with this tale.

I'm starting to wonder if it will end up with none of the characters surviving--Sort of like Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.

I'm already suffering withdrawal.

Nothing til Monday? Ack.

Susanlynn, you are so right in that cell phones changed everything. And IMHO, not always for the better.

Alvaro is a wild card. Albeit one in a state of shock.

I thought he was a cool customer but now he is hot, bothered and scared. Jarifa, I have no idea what he will do. Perhaps he will shake it off and blackmail or do the right thing. I have no idea.

I just can't turn away.

SpanProf, I hope a few of our favorites survive but I'm starting to wonder myself...

Diana

JARIFA...Thanks so much for the recap and the snappy title. I'm feeling a bit like SpanProf, sorry that I got myself into this dark tale. Up until this week, I looked forward to watching it early in the day. But the last two days I have felt nothing but dread.

Which is a tribute to the skill of the producer, director and actors to be sure. But still...

However, must thank you and UA for the work you are doing recapping and enriching the discussion of this horrifying tale of murder and betrayal.

I don't mind dark tales like this one. It probably seems as dark as it is because the writers are giving us less time between murders. This is 85 episodes' worth of them compressed into 25 episodes. Back in 1986 the number of them probably felt excessive to some audience members.

There were so many changes in the world before this production that I'm surprised that this isn't more different from the original than it is.

If you haven't seen anything else by this producer, be prepared for lots of whiplash in the upcoming episodes. During YNCELH we were never sure how that story would end. I was not entirely satisfied with it and the two others after that were strange as well.

I well remember the ending of “La candidata”. That was another quality drama I really enjoyed in spite of it’s being very dark in its own right. I have had to admit I have come to enjoy much darker programming than I thought I ever would, I blame that on the early years of “The Walking Dead.” : )

The pacing of this one reminds me much of that of the shorter 8-10 episode season series you find on cable and in that way along with the diamond trafficking and gay character storylines is very much in keeping with current productions. More to say about the original when this is over.

Thank you,Jarifa. You are amazing at retelling this dark tale which has so many twists and turns.

I was SO disappointed tha Miguel was killed, but as soon as he told Alejandro that he would be talking to Leonora, I knew that would be the end of him. Que triste! And what a coinkydink that Alvaro got to tape the whole thing. UA, I think you are right; he is stupid enough to extort sex from Alejandro, but then, Alejandro doesn't really love Leonora; so will he succumb to the extortion? OR he may try to blackmail Catalina into convincing Alejandro to "be with" him. That would be even more stupid, but as Diana said, he is a wildcard.

That would be well beyond stupid and into brain-dead. Alvaro doesn't have the tiniest clue what he is dealing with. He is nowhere near intelligent enough to deal with Catalina.

Catalina is homophobic in view of how she can't deal with her son not being heterosexual She still considers this to be scandalous despite the fact that gay marriage has been legal in Mexico for a few years. She would also see Alvaro as a low-life if she knew his past behaviors.

If he is stupid enough to try to blackmail her he's a dead man.

JudyB and RgvChick, this has been a pure delight to recap as well as working alongside Urban and AnonFri.

Jarifa: At least with "La candidata" I felt as if I was getting the side benefit of learning how the Mexican government is structured. :)

O/T: just saw”The Good Liar” with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen. Very enjoyable with some good twists I never saw coming.

I will have to look into that one.

OT

Jarifa, thank you! I adore Helen Mirren (Prime Suspect was amazing among her many outstanding performances). And, Ian is wonderful.

I can't want to see the Good Liar.

Diana
