El Dragón #61, 12/26/19: If Chestnuts Grew In Miami

  • Miguel arrives at the office and wants Adela to leave earlier than usual.  Fearing the worst if Peligros tattletales on her, she must confess her plot to learn from Carmen, aka Mrs. Piggy, what role Epigmenio really had in Mig's parents' deaths.  He agrees with Peligros that it's foolish and dangerous as well as unnecessary.  They need to discuss it further at home.
  • Leopoldo Santamarina, is telling what he knows about Mig's enterprises--at least the umbrella structure stemming from Ecogreen and the latest acquisition of "Pídenos".  He'll get protection, sure, if the information is worth anything, advises Howard.  He mentions a number of businesses Howard has put on his wall map.  Leo tells him he's the legitimate face of Ecogreen and he's being forced to sign something he doesn't want to.  Howard is slobbering all over himself.  Come on in says Mr. Spider to the Leo the Fly.
  • A couple of Carlos's BFF's --petroleum magnates--agree it's time to kick him to the curb.  The CEO of the oil company/Secretary of Energy plans to get him out of the way and to become a candidate for President of Mexico himself.  He's upping the quantity of oil being transported (to increase profits so he'll look like a national hero)  The 2nd dude won't stand in his way but wonders if technically it's possible to increase the transports this amount.  They drink a toast to him as the next presidente.
  • Lobo delivers the pilfered pile of pesos collected to Pig.  He arranges for Carmen to come for a visit at some out of the way secret dump for a conjugal visit.
  • Howard now devises a strategy so that Leo can get physical proof that Mig's enterprises are fronts for money laundering.  "--Leave it to me and follow my instructions." (Yeah, like his schemes have worked so well up to now.)  He has Leo call Jime and the yacht-owning attorney to set up a meet for the signature in the next day or two.  He hands Leo a gun for his sole protection.  Leo doesn't know the first thing about guns and how to use them.  He's shocked this is the extent of his "witness protection."
  • Finally Ade convinces Mig to let her continue pumping Carmen for information about Pig and his parents' deaths.  Peligros will arrange for the false ID's for Ade to use.
  • Karina and one of the oil dudes are having a bed-bound session where he mentions running his buddy for president.  She wants in on the plan an promises to be a great P.R. manager.
  • Dora leaves the manse early in the morning the next day without giving any specifics to the major domo.
  • Peligros has Flaco create the false ID credentials for Ade but won't give him any of the particulars.  Techie Towers has a hay day guessing what they're being used for and if Mig is putting Ade's life in danger and thus "using her."
  • Mr. Secretary of Energy And Would Be Candidate manipulates his transport engineer into increasing the numbers by flattery (but maybe a raise as well, though I doubt it.)
  • Carlos calls in Jesus for political support in his area/districts?  However, Jesus is snide and non-chalant about the whole thing.  He replies to Carlos that nothing happens unless Miguel Garza wants it.  It's always been that way and Carlos should recognize it by now.  Carlos with all the negative press is too hot to touch.  So, it's Garza he really needs to chat with.  Jesus has washed his hands of the deal.
  • Mr. Yacht Lawyer is held up with a traffic cop from meeting with Jime at the car dealership for the necessary signatures.  He advises Jime who says she'll have Ishiro take her to the dealership and meet him there.
  • Lobo picks up Carmen to take her (blindfolded) to meet Pig for a conjugal interlude with the hubby.
  • Ana and hub, Bernal, practice a new way of changing diapers for their daughter together?
  • Mr. Secretary of Energy gives a press conference which Carlos watches and immediately notes the dude's going to run against him in the primaries (?)
  • Jime and Ishi arrive at the car dealership, but the lawyer hasn't arrived.  She will wait inside (in air conditioned comfort I might add) while Ishi stands guard and waits for the Yacht Lawyer.  Once inside, Jime's made to wait under false pretenses while Howard's 2nd in command pretends to be Leo's customer.  Leo's secretary puts drops in Jime's coffee that are sure to make her sick to her stomach.  IRS Dude give's Leo instructions on how long to wait for the drops to take effect and so on.
  • Ishi, meanwhile, notes a blue car and driver waiting outside of the dealership.  He goes to have a chat with that car's driver.
  • Dora arrives in CD Jimenez and heads for the local library where she remembers Don Lamberto hid oodles of cash in the ceiling as her rainy day stash. She retrieves said packets of pesos.
  • Once Jime and Leo's meeting starts, Leo finds all sorts of excuses to slow things down with the actual signing process.  Eventually he signs but Jime feels sick to her stomach and eventually leaves to throw up in the restroom.  Leo takes the opportunity to switch account books, leaves the fake one for Jime to pick up, which she does, totally unwittingly; in the meantime, Leo sneaks out with the original in his hands.  He gives his driver in the blue limo the IRS's address in downtown Miami.
  • Yacht Lawyer finally arrives just as Jime is coming out of the building.  Ishi's not there.  She feels ill and asks YL to take her back to  her hotel.
  • Leo's driver isn't taking instructions very well.  Leo begins yelling at him.  The driver heads out to the hinterlands somewhere and stops.  Ruh-roh!!!!  The driver is Ishi and he demands Leo hand him the account book.  Leo tries to pull Howard's gun on Ishi, but Ishi's too quick for Leo.
  • Peligros and Ade head to the gym so she can make amends with Carmen by giving her a gift.  However, Carmen isn't at class that day.  She's at a dump somewhere humping hubby.
  • Back at the hotel room Ishi hands the real account book to Jime.  She's surprised that she was hoodwinked like that.  Well, so what do they do with Leo?  Ishi calmly responds, "--Leo's dead."   Problem solved.
  • Mr. Secretary of Engergy gets a phone call from the production engineer of one of the container ships whose oil has burst out of it's hull and is leaking badly.
  • Karina has Mig at a dinner meeting for a business proposal he's sure to love.

Thank You Jardinera. So was that guy emptying the cash register at 2 AM the other night at 7-11 in the witness protection program too? Looked like maybe the same style of gun? Just Sayin.........

Note to Adela and Miggie: Lies and deception are the Sentinel Chickens of relationships kids.

Really enjoyed the several cornered rat expressions on Carlos Fuarte's face. About time for him to start wearing Depends is it not?

Stoooopid, stooopid Loco. Now WHY did we start calling him LoCo? He sees himself and Carmen as an item, to be referred to as 'US'.

She sees him as a toy which actually does not require batteries.

It was fun seeing Jimenema get snookered for once. Puking is not very sexy gurl.

It was MORE fun seeing Karina in her underwear. WOOF.

Kirby: Howard is determined to bring down Miguel & Co.,

Steve, yeah what's up with that? Doesn't he have anything better to do? I think he just wants to get Migalicious alone and spank him.

Wait a minute....A public Library, Dora? How many years? Hot as hell in Mexico most of the time and the library never had any Air Conditioning work done?

"Hey Hugh, come look at this shit!"
"Where are you?"
"Over here on the trunk line to Reading Room C, where that damper is giving them trouble."

"YIKES! So do we tell anybody, or just call it a day? Look at the dust on this stuff would you! Musta been here since they built this place."

"Yeppers, here, put all this in your tool bag and let's get out of here. You gonna call your wife?"

"Screw her. After the way she drools over them TN guys, she can have them."

Thank you Jardinera! I must have missed the part where the secretary put something in Jimena's coffee, because I couldn't figure out why she suddenly got sick. I saw the secretary afterward with a smile on her face that she was responsible for that though, so I figured she must have done it. I just didn't know she had spiked the coffee.

Kirby, I'm with you too about the money being stashed up in the ceiling. Come on, how many years has it been there? And no roof leaks anywhere or no A/C servicing up there? And boy, that was an empty library. So what, do the Garza's own the library?

More unbelievable stuff from Howard the IRS guy...what IRS guy hands over a gun to someone? Granted, there is a level from the U.S. Treasury who are armed and carry weapons. But they are the ones who arrest delinquent taxpayers (who refuse to pay taxes) and cart them off to a federal jail. I wish these TN writers would do their research correctly.

Jardinera, thank you for that excellent recap. I only watched half of this episode before I decided to go to bed ( too much holiday plus I spent much of yesterday tracking down the Shingles vaccine which is as elusive as the Holy Grail).

I must confess that I really don't get the business dealings and cannot keep all the drug lords and crooked politicians straight. Thanks for making the plotlines clearer for me.

Jardinera, thanks a bunch. IThis passage cracked me up: He hands Leo a gun for his sole protection. Leo doesn't know the first thing about guns and how to use them. He's shocked this is the extent of his "witness protection." - lol. But I'm still glad to see Howard again.

Cynthia, I knew you'd set us straight on this particular IRS practice.

Susanlynn, I think the drug lords basically run Mexico with the politicians of their own choice, who will turn a blind eye to their crimes. So much of the economy is "underground" and therefore, that is why the common people in Mexico suffer so much. Many feel they have no choice but to be involved in the drug trade. With the drug lords being so wealthy and powerful, they are the ones who have all the money to pour into the politicians and get them elected. The one who has the most money wins.

Hello everyone.
Pretty boring episode.
Ishiro to the rescue. Wasn't that awesome!!
I love seeing the walls close in on Carlos and his political friends jumping ship!
