El Dragon #62, 12/27/19: Don't Cry Over Spilt...Oil?

This episode focused mostly on the oil spill, there wasn’t much else to it, so it should make this recap easier than usual, which is great since I have two episodes to cover.

The engineer and the secretary Sayanes, who wants to run for president are arguing over who caused the oil spill, after the secretary strong armed the engineer into increasing the production, not caring about the costs.

Dora returns to the house with the money she recovered from the library, in a bad, bad mood.

Sayanes and Romero turn to Miguel for help. They are trying to keep it out of the press. Miguel assembles his team and offers 1 million dollars to any one of his team who is able to come up with a solution that not only cleans up the oil, but also makes the oil still usable. Jorge argues that the team should work together, but Miguel tells him that he doesn’t care, they each will have a chance at the money. Each of the team meet with different people they know to come up with a solution. Trejo calls a friend in Japan but her solution would only preserve 10% of the oil.

Ishiro and Miguel talk about how Ishiro disposed of the body of Leopoldo, we get a flashback of the scene. There isn’t much to say here, the scene had no words, and we could all see a gloved Ishiro let the car with Leopoldo at the wheel drive into the ocean. Ishiro tells Miguel that he did what he needed to do. Miguel is not happy that it had to end up this way, but there was no alternative.

Miguel talks to Jimena about what happened, she blames herself, he tells her it could have happened to anyone. He tells her that sometimes things don’t work out like we want. He asks her if she has found a new director for Pidenos, and she tells him that is what she wanted to talk about.

Flaco in search of an answer to Miguel’s challenge goes to see an old professor of his. She is mad of him. Turns out his real name is Miguel. She obviously knows something she wants to know.

Kenia and Jorge go to see a professor in Geo Chemistry to ask about possible solutions. He talks about using flotation devices to trap the oil so that it can be absorbed. At this point in the episode, I was kind of rooting for Jorge’s idea that in the end, all of the information they would find together would be the solution. They spend hours taking notes about what the professor has to say.

Jimena is at a bar with a chauvinist who is supposedly an expert in oil, but only wants to hit on her. She doesn’t want anything to do with him, and his information, we find out later is worthless.

Flaco seems to get interesting information from the professor. He tells her he will do whatever she asks. She tells him that she will only give it to him if he apologizes, which she makes him do on his knees. He apologizes for being an idiot for making up a nickname for her that was rude. We never know what it was. She gives him a file but tells him the company is out of business. And she tells him that if it amounts to anything, she wants another apology, this time with money attached.

Leonidis, the engineer from the oil company is meeting with Carlos Duarte, telling him what happened. He is worried about the environmentalists and the fact that Sayanes is putting all the blame on him. Duarte tells him that he will take care of it. The first thing he does is pick up the phone to call the press.

Sayanes is in his office freaking out. They haven’t been able to control the leak. They talk about Miguel, if they should trust him. What does he have to gain from helping them. They feel like they have no other choice but to trust him. He gets a call and then turns on the tv, where the news is covering the spill and asking why the government hasn’t responded.

Miguel is seeing the same news and saying he needs to speed up the process by offering more money. Jorge and Kenia show up without a solution. Jimena shows up with nothing as well.

Ana enters the room where Hector is still asleep feeling sorry for himself. She turns on the news and shows him what is going on in the world. She tells him that he needs to go to work to investigate. She brings him a motorized wheelchair. He gets mad she bought the chair without his permission and that he doenst need her. She tells him that he needs to get to work. He finally leaves the house and finds out she bought a van with a ramp in exchange for his SUV without him knowing too. They argue. He says she should have let him know and she asks when. When he was asleep or so mad that he wouldn’t let her talk.

Flaco seems to have gotten somewhere with the Information that she gave him because he is meeting with Trejo and needs help with the financial end of the business. They come to an agreement of splitting the money 60/40.

Ana drops Hector at Sucesos and he insists on getting in himself. He runs into Claudia and they talk. She talks as if nothing has happened, when all he sees is the flight of stairs he has to get up. Finally, she suggests the service elevator.

Flaco gives the presentation of his solution. A sponge that can absorb 90 times its weight in oil, no water. He shows them how it works and then Miguel asks him how it is possible that the product isn’t known. Trejo explains how it ended up being more expensive to recover the oil from the spill than the value of the oil itself. Miguel tells him to go ahead and buy the sponges. Trejo tells him that they went ahead a little and actually, Flaco butts in that they bought the company that produces the sponges so that they don’t have to buy them. Miguel claims that since saving money isn’t the issue, great work. Then he gets a call. It is Sayanes, and Miguel tells him he was just about to call him.

When Hector and Claudia get to the office, he is pissed that he can’t even get to his desk without help. He gets stupid with Claudia, asking if she is still interested in him now that he is paralyzed and she chews him out telling him that she isn’t interested in him, but not because of the chair, but because of the person he has become, defeated and an imbecile. That he doesn’t realize that life goes on and that there are people who love him as much as before. Then she leaves him to work in her office.

Adela and Miguel are getting ready, she is dressed for another workout with Carmen. He tells her to make sure Peligros is always with her.

Hector apologizes to Claudia for being a jerk. She tells him he can’t be mad at the whole world all the time. She tells him to send her the list of questions via cell and leaves.

At the prison, Dora shows up with the same duffel bag from before and delivers it to Tacho. How she gets into the prison with that much money, I don’t know. But he takes his payment. Too bad Epig didn’t really end up dead with the Information Tacho gave her.

Carmen shows up at rumba with Rogelio. Adela apologizes for everything, and gives Carmen the gift she had for her. They make up. Adela says that she screwed up for leaving without letting her know. Adela got her a matching workout outfit.

Miguel and Sayanes are at the oil spill site and Miguel is telling him that he has total control in the press conference. M puts oil on S hands to show how involved he is in the process.

Adela and Carmen are at the juice bar after the workout, looking like they just stepped out of the salon not the gym and Adela pulls out a flask to spike their green juice. Then she proceeds to give her the number from the cell phone she got for her new identity Mayra. They get into how jealous their husbands are, were, commiserating over their lives.

Sayanes gives the press conference giving credit to the government and to Miguel for the success of the clean up. All through the conference, Claudia is getting texts from Hector about the potential presidency of Sayanes. He answers another journalist about this not being the time to get into it, it is the time to worry about the clean up.

Jimena meets up with her fake boyfriend, and tells him that she is finally going to fulfill her promise. He of course has his mind in the gutter, and she tells him not that, she is going to make him a rich man.

Howard and Jeremias find Leopoldo’s body. Confirm that cause of death was a gun shot. That he was shot with gun Howard gave him and no finger prints anywhere. Howard says that guy who should have been driving said that whoever knocked him out was a professional because they did it with a single hit. Howard repeats the name Ecogreen and that it has to be the tip of the iceberg to warrant the death of Leopoldo. That it has to be much more than financial.

Jimena brings in her boyfriend to be the new CEO of Pidenos. Jimena explains what we already know of the plan. All of the shell companies (investors in Pidenos) sold their shares to Ecogreen, who now owns more than 50% of the company and so they are now in control. The guy who has always been wary says that it was a trap, they were tricked. That is when BF guy (cannot for the life of me remember his name) steps in and said there was no trick, no con. That Ecogreen is going to buy them out for millions of dollars, and if they have any new ideas they will be able to finance it and… to let them know when they do. They might want to invest. They dismiss the boys and then tell people to get back to work.

Miguel thanks the team for all of their hard work and Trejo asks the question, what does Miguel gain by giving, instead of selling the sponges for the clean up to the government. They lost millions in the process. Miguel tells him that they didn’t lose money… they won over the future president and that is priceless.

A huge party is going on with all of the players. Duarte, Sayanes, Karina, Romero, Enda, her husband, and Miguel and Adela all present. As well as the guy that Miguel helped win the election for Baja California. Sayanes introduces Miguel as the star of the night. Adela sees the governor of Baja taking Efilina. Edna and Miguel talk. Edna tongue in cheek. Miguel swearing that he does it all for the good of the country. She tells him that he is one who tries to create justice in the country. A reporter asks to interview Miguel and he tells her yes, Edna tells him to be careful with the press, they are a two edged sword. She doesn’t think its a good idea in his business. He tells her that his business is to make money looking out for his interests and those of his country, that he has nothing to hide. Edna’s husband comes up to her and Miguel tells them that he didn’t realize that they were married. Miguel goes to look for Adela. On his way he is waylaid by Duarte who asks him why he left him out of the business of the Efelina. Miguel tells him because he had warned him, and that he decided that he doesn’t do business with people who associate with his enemies. Then pretty much blames him for the attack on Hector and basically tells him in so many words that he will not support him for president. Sayanes toasts Miguel as the man who did the impossible. Miguel uses the opportunity to declare the candidacy of Sayanes for president.

That is it for tonight. Short and sweet. I will post the second episode later this weekend. Hopefully it will be a quick one as well. I hope everyone had an amazing holiday. Good night.

Esther: I see Miguel has anointed Sayanes as the next President of Mexico in the 2024 elections.

Thank You Esther. Does useless sniveling self pitying turd sound about right for Aw Heck!? Everybody and their Brother told Heck all along that if he continued his reckless ways, he would end up dead. Count your blessings to be alive, or just go off somewhere alone and end it all you miserable little fellow. Not that his motives were ignoble, his heart was in the right place, pursuing the corruption in his country. His methods were (obviously) far beyond reckless. Ana should walk, or run.

So Flacid is now a millionaire? Will he give it all to Kenia to be his GF until it is all spent and she is gone?

*correction* Flaco’s real name is Manuel, not Miguel, my fingers have just typed that name so many times, They were on automatic.

Kirby... pretty much about Hector. I was a little to tired last night to have much snark.

Steve, next presidential election in Mexico 2024? That’s a long way out and lots of opportunity to screw up.

Esther. Don't worry, I usually have enough condescending snark and loathing for the whole patio. :-)

If Heckturd wants to be all "Quit, don't help me, Poor pitiful MEEEE.", then he needs to man up with something to the tune of: "I was trying to right a wrong and got myself into this mess singlehandedly, and I will get myself back out of it." "Or at least I will make the best of what I now have." "Now kindly step aside and let me get to work."
