When the Going Gets Tough… Part 1 Diana

Character is truly tested when things are at their worst. How we react can make us or break us. Anger and vengeance may be righteous and well deserved, but they need to be channeled into constructive, not destructive emotions. If not, these morph into despair and hopelessness. We must dig deep to find the strength and courage to put heartache and loss aside. To right the wrong with sheer determination, focus and levelheaded rationale.

A father will begin the journey to reclaim his son lost by treachery. Devastating considering the source – a wife, a mother. One once loved. Yet, Ringo is not alone. Support – friends and family ready and willing to ride or die. Yet, not all are with him. Now that the going has gotten tough, one has gotten going. In a different direction.

Who will be the salve that heals the wound and mends this broken family?

At Ringo’s there is a steady stream of support. A tearful Ringo confides his heart break to Manuel. Manuel offers consolation and a loving hug. Manuel continues to encourage Ringo and buoy his spirits. Ringo peruses old photo albums of Santi in happier times and smiles.

Ringside, Guachin and Rosa dace as Guachin hugs her. Pepe and Damasio watch. Elsa brings a young woman (her niece?) and Pepe is smitten. Damasio and Elsa dance. Silly stuff but fun.

Manuel and Teresa talk and the next wave of support, Alejo, arrives. Alejo brings dinner into Ringo. He tries to spoon feed him (quite endearing) but Ringo refuses. Ringo mourns losing the most important thing in his life. Alejo calms him down.

Carrizo, Gloria and Turco try to cajole Santi into a better mood. Turco makes the mistake of referring to Santi as his son. I’m not your son Santi spits out, arms folded. Ringo calls and asks Gloria to talk with Santi. Nopis. Santi won’t talk to Ringo either. Tears accompany this new wound. At this, Ringo asks Alejo to leave, he wants to be alone.

Oso arrives and asks the significance of all the merriment. In unison, the group chants “Oso. Oso”. Oso gets in the ring and he and Rosa really start dancing to Guachin’s consternation. Rafa and the girl he brought (his girlfriend?) kiss. Guachin protests when Oso and Rosa leave.

Ringo shows up at Gloria’s. Ringo threatens Gloria with jail. He gives Turco Santi’s bag.

This isn’t a hotel Oso says to Rafa. Guachin roars in then Oso tells him don’t walk in uninvited. Guachin angrily goes back and knocks on the open door, wanting to know what happened with Rosa. There’s an update in the paper with Turco and Ringo’s images on the rematch.

Gloria is driving and being followed by Damasio. She meets up with Diego. What are you doing here he snarls? Diego assures her she has nothing to worry about.
Arnulfo shows up at the gym I believe to suspend the fight due to Ringo’s latest travails. Damasio inserts himself into the conversation to Oso’s fury. Enough Oso says.

When the Going Gets Tough… Part 2 Diana

Ringo sees Julia. Julia tries to look impassive. No need for explanations she tells him. Diego calls to interrupt this painful exchange to talk about music at the wedding. Excuse me she murmurs as she leaves. Ringo’s response? To throw his helmet against the wall. This lack of self control is not helping.

Eva calls Julia to express outrage about Ringo’s situation. She tells Julia that Gloria is terrible but Julia doesn’t seem very moved. Rosa shows up at Julia’s complaining about her headache and Julia give her meds. Rosa tries to engage her about Ringo. No go.

Rosa and Guachin spar as Guachin murmurs sweet words. Arnulfo walks in and watching Rosa is very impressed. He has a plan. As all this is transpiring, Guachin admits his feelings to Rosa as her face mirrors her frustration. I like you she tells him, giving him the old you’re my friend line. Friends forever. Amigos.

Brenda is in her underwear in a snit with her (fashion designer?) as Alejo arrives. What is your intention toward Brenda Ivan huffs just as the object of Brenda’s wrath shows up sputtering not too many kind words about Brenda, including calling her intense. In her room, Brenda rips up her sketch of Ringo (which is quite good btw) and sets it on fire. The smoke detector goes off as her father and Alejo rush in. Confined to the waste basket, the fire is quickly extinguished. Ivan puts his coat around his daughter who seems in a stupor, not comprehending the gravity of the situation. Alejo who always looks fairly astute but who in reality is clueless regarding Brenda, looks like he is thinking the whole thing over. Ahh, Eva is there. Are you all right Alejo asks Brenda worriedly as Eva watches. Why are you here Eva is asked? I’m here for the papers she says and shuts the door.

Eva tells Alejo Brenda is disturbed. Alejo wants Brenda to go to his apartment.

Julia’s dance studio and Ringo is there, strutting his stuff. Julia shakes her head. Ringo cuts in but Julia doesn’t look impressed. Teacher compliments him. Julia reasserts she will be with Diego. Ringo has other plans.

Eva and Max are in her office when Alejo comes in and wants to talk with her. Eva confesses her feelings. He looks stunned. Doesn’t get much of a word in edgewise. You are like my sister. Eva is bereft. Eva is in love with me he tells Max as Max waxes poetic. Max, is Eva the woman you left the seminary for? Yes he admits. Alejo encourages him to go after her as he looks like he is still processing Eva’s confession. Ale gets a call from someone not sure who - a bearded man.

Ivan’s parents arrive and a resolute Ringo does not let that deter him. He opens the gate and does not shrink from their presence. He makes a good impression as Diego snarls but alas there is no mustache twirling in sight 😊

Ep. 17, Part 1: …The Tough Get Going

At the club, Oso watches as Turco practices, he tries to give Turco some advice, but Turco shuns it and tells him that he knows how to fight…that is why he made mincemeat of Ringo and took his title. Ringo then calls Oso to ask about a sponsor since he needs to buy some things for his practice and there are other costs he needs to take care of. Ringo tells him not to worry and to trust him.

At Julia’s house, Ivan and company are chitchatting when the fire alarm goes off. They all rush to Brenda’s room where Ivan asks what she did now, but she knows nothing about it, When Ivan mentions the fire earlier, Julia questions Brenda who freaks out and tells her to leave.

Aa Ringo works on the alarm, he listens as Ivan and Diego’s parents discuss the honeymoon. Diego sees Ringo and wonders what is taking him so long. Ringo responds that when an alarm goes off, people should listen. After Ringo leaves, Diego’s mother comments that Ringo is very handsome.

Santi asks Gloria what happened to her eye, so she tells him that she hit herself. After Santi tells her that Turco told him that Ringo hit her and he knows Ringo would never do that, Gloria calls Turco since she is concerned that Santi may find out that she lied about Ringo. Turco dismisses her concerns and tells her that she is only doing to Ringo what he did to her. After Turco hangs up and leaves, Damasio watches him from behind the wall where he was listening.

Diego and his parents leave. Diego tries to put a slimy lip lock on Julia, but she squirms away (and we don’t blame her) and is embarrassed since his parents are watching. After Diego Leaves, Julia reproaches Ringo for the comment he made about alarms. As Brenda watches from her window, Ringo tells Julia that he can stop making indirect comments and tell everyone the truth…that he loves her. he is not going to give up; he will continue to fight for her. She tells him he is crazy and he returns that yes, he is crazy…about her. Brenda cries as her father enters her room to apologize for jumping to conclusions. When he mentions that he was just concerned and wanted to avoid any problems since Julia’s in-laws were there, Brenda freaks out once again since everything is about Julia.

As Oso rags on Rafa about not cleaning up, Damasio enters and tells him that Antones is there. Oso wants to talk about Ringo’s match, but Antones insists on discussing a match between Rosa and La Zorra. Damasio explains that what Antones is implying is that if there is no match between the girls then there will be no match between Ringo and Turco.

Ringo arrives and points out to Tere that she has three place settings. Teresa cries that it’s just what she is used to; she misses Santi. Ringo assures her that Santi will return. He then calls Santi, but Gloria refuses to let him talk to him; Ringo should feel what she felt when she would try to talk to Santi and he wouldn’t allow it. Turco then gets the phone and tells Ringo that Santi doesn’t want to talk to him. When Turco yells at Santi to ask if he wants to talk to his father. Santi yells back “No.”

 

Ep. 17, Part 2: …The Tough Get Going

At the Garay house, Julia again asks about the fire alarm going off and the fire that Ivan had mentioned in Brenda’s room. Brenda is calmer and explains that it was just a picture that caught on fire, but Julia is still concerned and guesses that it was Ringo’s picture. Just then Alejos arrives for Brenda. After they leave, Julia comments to Ivan that she suspects that Brenda is not taking her meds, but Ivan insists that Brenda is fine. He adds that Brenda was never interested in Ringo…like Julia was; he hopes that she has gotten over it.

Pepe enters Oso’s office. He has concerns about Rosa fighting…Oso is sending her to be killed. Oso assures him that he will take care of Rosa; he’s doing it for Ringo who must fight. Rafa arrives and Oso tells him that the place looks much better. Rafa tells him that he need not worry about the palace being a mess; he is leaving since Oso has no time for him and is always scolding him.

Rosa sees Julia who tries to convince her to go to her wedding. Rosa begs off since she doesn’t know anyone, but when Gauchin passes by he tells her he will go with her.

Oso runs after Rafa and pleads with him to stay, but Rafa insists on leaving. When Oso goes back inside, Rosa approaches and asks Oso what is going on since she has heard others whispering, so Oso tells her that he will be preparing her for her first professional match.

Turco and Gloria drop off Santi at school as Ringo watches from afar. As Turco and Gloria argue, Santi sees Ringo who waves. After T and G leave, Ringo approaches and Santi runs to him; they hug tightly.

Brenda arrives home from a jog. As she passes by Ivan’s office, she listens in on their conversation. Diego suggests that Ivan find himself a girlfriend since he will be alone when Brenda marries. Ivan tells him that Brenda will never have a normal life like Julia…she will never have a relationship like Diego’s and Julia’s Brenda runs out and cries as she recalls her father’s words. She then observes as she sees Guadalupe leaving the new house for Julia.

Ringo asks Santi how he is doing. Santi replies that he has a lot of toys, but he misses Ringo and his grandma. Ringo understands that Santi is angry and assures him that he fought as hard as he could for him, but lost; he will still continue to fight for him…he will do the impossible so that Santi can return to them; he hopes Santi won’t be angry with him anymore because it hurts him. Santi assures Ringo that he was angry with him but not anymore. He then complains about Turco talking badly about him. Just then T and G return and chide Ringo for keeping Santi from entering the school. Santi snaps back that it was his fault that he hasn’t gone inside. After Gloria takes Santi inside, Carrizo taunts Ringo so Ringo uses his fist to show Carrizo that he shouldn’t mess with his family.

At the club, Pep tries to convince Oso to tell Rosa that the fight will be fixed and she is supposed to lose. Just then, Gauchin brings in a friend, La Maga, so that she can help Rosa train. As Pepe expresses his concern once more, Ringo enters and asks what there is to be concerned about; so, Oso explains that Rosa will be fighting La Zorra…and Ringo has to go ahead from the association for his match against Turco. After Ringo points out that La Zorra is already a national champion, they as Rosa and Maga spar…and are surprised when Rosa knocks La Maga out.

Gloria goes to see her attorney and tells her that Ringo showed up to see Santi at school. She wants the attorney to make sure that Ringo doesn’t get close to Ringo. The attorney will ask for a restraining order. When she mentions that it will be easy since Gloria has the complaint against Ringo, Gloria tells her that she dropped the charges. The attorney advises that she shouldn’t have done that. If the judge finds out, he might think that she had been lying all along and if Ringo appeals, he will get custody and Gloria might end up in jail.

 

Ep. 17, Part 3: …The Tough Get Going

At Julia’s clinic, Julia is working on Maga who insists that she is fine. After Maga and Rosa leave, Ringo stays and wants to talk. He tells Julia that he wants to be with her for the rest of his life and he isn’t leaving until she tells him what she feels for him. Julia tries to leave but the door is jammed. Ringo thinks it’s a sign; a sign that she needs to open her eyes and realized that she belongs with him. He gets close to Julia and touches her face as he reminds her that she asked him to save her. He repeats that he wants to know what she feels for him. As they are about kiss when Diego calls Julia and tells her that their house is on fire. Ringo manages to open the door and they rush away.

Rosa tells Tere about her practice with La Maga, but Tere tries to talk her out of fighting. Rosa defends her decision and she just wants her daughter to be proud of her.

Oso calls Rafa since Rafa rushed off and he didn’t let him finish talking. Rafa tells him that he thought living with him would be good but it wasn’t. it is obvious that Oso doesn’t want a relationship with him. Rosa listens from behind the bar as Osos explains that he is not used to living with someone. His life was dark; he was living in shadows, but Rafa showing up is the best thing that happened in his life; he just wants Rafa to let him be a father. Rafa then tells him that he will be there that night; Oso should prepare him a delicious dinner. As Oso hangs up, Pepe runs in and praises Rosa’s strength…she might even beat La Zorra. When Oso mentions that Rosa can’t win, Pepe advises that Oso better tell Rosa that the fight is fixed and that she is supposed to lose. Rosa rushes out from behind the bar and questions what Pepe just said…that the fight is fixed. She demands that Oso be up front with her.

Hey, Kirby! Thanks for dropping in :-) Moose sure was asking for it, and he sure got it! Gotta luv, Ringo, but I bet Gloria will use it against him.

Yes, Kirby, Ringo punching Carrizo was quite enjoyable. Turco and his entourage of one (?) are so annoying and goofy at the same time.

You know, when I was a kid we used to make fun of the “sad violin music” in shows and here we are so many decades later and they are still using “sad violin music”. It was hard not to laugh as I thought of that last night as Ringo was crying over Santi being taken by Gloria. As a matter of fact, I could have been watching Charlie Chaplin. Guess some things never change but I wish they would.

I don’t like Rosa being set up and sacrificed as a loser in a fixed fight just so Ringo can fight. Ringo needing to fight is not a good enough reason for me.

Looks like a Gloria got her black eye for NOTHING now since she withdrew the charges and risks being charged herself. Now that was funny.

Brenda playing with matches: a dangerous combination. That being said, I did feel sorry for her hearing Iván say she would never be able to have what her sister has with Diego.

I am enjoying Ringo’s perseverance in his pursuit of Julia.

Diana, will we still have time for a runaway bride??? ; )

If you are interested in some entertaining Spanish language productions, here are a couple I have enjoyed produced in Mexico by and on Netflix. First, the dark comedy: “La casa de las Flores” (2 seasons 23 episodes. Verónica Castro is in season 1, also, Aislinn Derbez, Natasha Dupeyrón and other familiar faces appear throughout). Second, the fast moving drama based on control of a tequila empire: “Monarca”. ( 1 season 10 episodes. Osvaldo Benavides is in it, I also noticed José Manuel Rincón who plays Rafael in Ringo)

Your eye for detail is extraordinary Rgv Chick. You captured all the drama perfectly.

Gloria is getting herself in deeper. I had hopes for redemption but they are fading. I'm relieved Santi and Ringo reconciled.

Brenda is a clear danger to herself. And others. She needs immediate help.

Jarifa, thank you for all the information on the shows. I don't like Rosa being set up either. Knocking out her sparring partner may not have been a stroke of luck but fighnting a champion is a different matter.

I have a bad feeling Julia will go on with the wedding. She already bailed once but may not do so again.

I've always loved that military macho "dicho". And of course I also always look forward to Diana's prologues. Totally beautiful, but this was my favorite line:

Who will be the salve that heals the wound and mends this broken family?

That really resonated with me. So many of us need that salve today.

I also enjoyed this insight:

Yes, still hard to believe that this educated hunk is pursuing such a mentally "off" person. And seems even creepy. Oh well, there are a lot of "cultural differences" for me in this concerning what is considered cute, amusing or funny.

I can't imagine being the actor that plays Diego. He ALWAYS gets the role of a disgusting, vile character. I think that would be depressing after a while. But maybe not. Maybe if we get a chance to act out our "dark side" on screen, we can listen to our Better Angels the rest of the time. For all I know he made spend his off hours feeding the poor and caring for orphans.

I have to admit as a kid, I always wanted the role of beautiful princess in our made up dramas. But then I'd get annoyed at the namby-pamby way the witch was being played, and would have to take over the wicked role. I think all this proves is that I was an incorrigibly bossy, annoying child.

Anyway, wishing all you busy people a glorious and peaceful Christmas. Even if it's only for a moment I hope you find the joy of Hope on Earth, Goodwill to Men and keep it close in your hearts for the year to come.

As much as we love the holidays, as individuals, we are often challenged by difficult family situations. We are tested and must persevere. I do believe that healing does come from within and from others, angels in our midst so to speak.

And I'm laughing at the thought of you being "an incorrigibly bossy, annoying child". I think being wicked is a lot more fun! And in your case, casting against type.

I have never seen the actor playing Diego. And it's just not believable that Julia would ever have fallen in love with him. I don't find anything the least bit attractive or appealing about him. But I'm ticked off at Julia for not believing in Ringo. I also see her going ahead with the marriage. Hope I'm wrong.

Not a good day for Brenda. Overhearing Ringo declare his love to Julia and later her dad say she’s too messed up to ever marry. Is there any doubt she set the fire at Julia and Diego’s new house?

I don’t want to see Rosa wind up with either Guachin or Oso, but I do get a kick out of the May-December rivalry. Oso tells Guachin that Rosa already has a baby, so she doesn’t need him (Guachin) – lol.

Kudos to Damasio. He’s no Sherlock Holmes, but he’s hot on the trail.

Ringo throwing his helmet in anger made me cringe. But like everybody else on the patio, I’m fine with him swatting Carrizo in the nose. Plus, Carrizo actually shoved him first.

I am just in awe at your ability to comprehend all the important details given your limited Spanish abilities. Yes, that was a fashion designer whom Brenda was squealing and whining at. He brought her the dress he had made for her based on what she wanted and the material she picked out. She had a conniption because he suggested that she not outdress the bride who looks fabulous in anything she wears. I really fear for Julia's safety; Brenda HATES her.

Jarifa, ITA with your feelings about Rosa being set up. If Ringo finds out, he may put a stop to it, but it may be too late. OTOH, Rosa seems to have much more ability and strength than Oso is giving her credit for, so maybe something good will come out of this.

JudyB, " I was an incorrigibly bossy, annoying child." You?? Nahh, I'll never believe that! You're too sweet and kind-hearted...you just like things to be done the right way..and sometimes it takes "showing them" to get it done. Been there, done that! :-)

Diana, "We are tested and must persevere. I do believe that healing does come from within and from others, angels in our midst so to speak." Another inspirational quote to keep. I am a firm believer in "angels in our midst." They are everywhere and they always arrive when we most need them.

Niecie, "Kudos to Damasio. He’s no Sherlock Holmes, but he’s hot on the trail." Damasio has missed a few marks but he is now definitely hot on Diego's red-hot pointed t(r)ail.

Ringo, Cap 16 & 17

RGVChick and Diana, great work on these recaps. I have been waiting for El Dragon to be posted so I can catch up to my assignment for the day.

You are dead right on all points although I have to say I don't feel sorry for Brenda at all. She is refusing to take her medications and I've been saying all along she is dangerous to self and society. I understand that many people with bipolar disorder feel sluggish from the meds but ones like her should be required to take them because they are dangerous. It is rare for females to be as fascinated by fire as she is and while fire is an interesting thing to capture in art its beauty is exceeded by its danger.

I hope Gloria goes to jail; she so deserves it. She is using Santi as a pawn in a power game with his dad and we don't want to see him get as screwed up as she is. If she really loved him at all she would want him to be happy and he is happy with his father.

Demasio needs to learn about spy equipment...

Rosa's problem is that she has a medical condition that needs to be addressed or Julia would not be trying to talk her out of boxing, at least for the short term. That she is expected to take a dive in the proposed upcoming fight is definitely an insult to her natural talent but I suspect many boxers have to start this way. Except maybe for these two.

As a drama major I can tell you that playing evil is much more fun than playing nice. Jorge Poza probably realized from the outset that he will mostly play villains because of his Snidely Whiplash look and he makes the most of it.

Burning Down the House… (Talking Heads) Part 1

Rosa eavesdrops on Pepe and Oso, hearing him say Rosa can’t win. Pepe realizes the gravity of the situation and tells Oso he better come clean. Rosa pops up from her hiding spot, demanding Oso tell her the truth. Pepe puts his hands up and backs off. Oso barricades himself in his office, locking it. Coward.

Santi greets his mother at Garay. Hugs. Te quiero mama. Besos.

Lupe walks out and Santi notices. So does she as admiring, covert glances are exchanged.

Ringo and Julia arrive as fire envelopes her and Diego’s home. Firefighters are there as Ringo offers her a hug. Meanwhile, pyromaniac Brenda arrives home shaken and sooty. She strips off her clothes, hysterical. In flashback, we see her entering the window at Diego and Julia’s. She takes inventory of several gifts which she smashes on the floor. Alternating between hysterical laughing and crying, Brenda pours what seems like gallons of gasoline which she ignites with a lighter. Afterward at home, she shakes in the shower.

Ringo continues to support a tearful Julia. Where in the world is Diego? Oops, here he is. Arriving on scene, screaming like a madman. My house, my house. Julia hugs him, Ringo stares.

Eva calls Manuel, there is a problem! Nopis, it’s a celebration for Manuel’s birthday. Alejo and Max are there along with one other nameless guy. Manuel blows out the candles in one fell swoop. Ringo calls Alejo to relay the news about the fire. Eva immediately asks if Julia is OK and later calls Julia to tell her the fire is being investigated. Eva offers to come over Julia says it’s not necessary.. Julia and Diego are with Ivan when Brenda comes in offering a hug. Are you going to postpone the wedding Brenda asks. No says Diego.

Oso tries to melt the ice with Rosa. What is the truth she queries. He tells Rosa the fight is rigged and she is supposed to lose. It’s not for money he truthfully claims – it’s to give Ringo the opportunity. Your losing is a condition of Ringo being allowed to fight. Ringo is like my son. Forgive me he begs, in tears (once again). I believe she agrees to the fight but not sure if she agrees to throw it.

Burning Down the House… (Talking Heads) Part 2

Brenda comforts Diego and Julia. Diego seems almost human. Ringo watches from outside through the gauzy curtains. Diego leaves and Julia opens the curtains and sees Ringo. He calls her. How are you? Sad she replies as Diego the snake slithers in, offering tea.

Gloria, Turco and Carrizo grabbing a quick snack. Carrizo has a tissue stuffed up his bloody nose. Ahhh, too bad 😊 I think the conversation revolves around Santi. Carrizo pays the vendor as Damasio rushes up pumping him for information.

Depressing dinner with Ivan, Julia, Diego and Brenda. Brenda speaks and the glum atmosphere deepens. Lupe arrives to dampen spirits further, saying the fire was set on purpose. Brenda gets nauseous, as well she should. Recriminations and worry ensue.

Gloria calls Teresa who asks where Santi is. He is busy Gloria snaps. Ringo takes the phone and asks how Santi is. Gloria hangs up in his face. Pepe will walk Teresa home. Oso and Damasio come in and Damasio begins relating his investigating adventures. Get to the point Oso sputters. The gist of it is that Gloria and Turco set Ringo up. Diego’s complicity is revealed.

Bad Brenda arrives at Alejo’s. Again, he is amazingly clueless as he does not immediately suspect seething is awry.

Lupe is still at the Garays. Brenda casts an accusatory eye at Lupe and starts in on her father’s guilt. Diego tries to make the peace to no avail. Lupe defends her father and Julia calls him a murderer. Manuel arrives as Ivan tells him to leave. I don’t want to bother you, but Julia is happy to see her uncle thanking him as he offers her a sweet hug. Julia shakes her head at her father. Calm down, Diego tells Ivan. Alejo calls Ivan and telling him Brenda is there, shaking and having a(nother) breakdown. Brenda is having a crisis Ivan states.

Gloria and Turco show up at Teresa’s for a notebook. Teresa seethes. Ringo calls Gloria and tells her he knows about what Diego did. Idiot Turco grabs the phone and assures Gloria is fine.

Burning Down the House… (Talking Heads) Part 3

Diego sweet talks Julia as Gloria calls telling him that Ringo knows everything.

As Ringo offers Manuel birthday congratulations, he tells Ringo Julia is very sad.

Guachin and Rosa spar and spat. Guachin is not happy with the decision regarding Rosa’s fight and tells Rosa so. He gets a call that his father is sick. Oso gives him money as Guachin leaves.

Alejo takes Brenda home. Her anger is back and she shooes Ivan and Julia out of her room.

Julia opens the curtains and sees Ringo. They text but there is no more action.

In a scene where I will need to rely on Rgv Chick’s second half recap, Alejo shows up at some sort of fight club (?) where he talks with a bearded guy. Later, Alejo is at a bar murmuring about money.

Oso shows Rafa some family pictures. A lovely young woman whom he identifies as his grandmother and a younger version of himself with his friends.

Julia dressed as a bride, simple but lovely. Is there significance to the lack of full wedding regalia? That remains to be seen. Hugs from Eva who calls her sister. Ivan asks Ringo to open the door. Julia comes out and there is no mistaking the look Ringo gives her. Eva puts a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Eva is at the ring as Manuel works out. Aren’t you going Eva asks Rosa? No. But Julia has other plans who sent Eva with a dress for Rosa who is not enthusiastic. Diego’s mother who seems lovely gives Julia a family ring. Brenda is in a very strange “ho’s are us” bridesmaid dress (hot pants with an open skirt) ignoring Ivan’s call. Where are you he asks? Brenda has a meltdown, stepping out of and crushing the dress.

Oso walks in as Rosa is getting dressed. He can’t hide his interest and gets an eyeful even having the gaul to call her too skinny! Eva laughingly pushes him out.

Ep. 19, Part 1: Burning Down the House…Watch Out, You Might Get What You Asked For

Ringo returns home. Tere tells him that she happened to talk to the school principal who told her that Santi was missing too much school. Ringo calls Gloria who is annoyed and tells him that Santi only missed one day. Ringo demands to talk to Santi. He tells Santi that he shouldn’t miss school; so, Santi tells him that he can’t help it if they don’t take him. After Ringo hangs up, he mentions that Gloria and Santi are at Julia’s wedding. Seeing that Ringo is in turmoil, Tere understands how Ringo feels and advises that he forget about Julia.

Diego and Gloria talk outside the church. She wants to know what they will do about Ringo but Diego doesn’t want to talk about Ringo on his wedding Day. After she insists that they could go to jail, Diego reiterates that Ringo won’t be able to prove anything and if she opens her mouth, the one who will go to jail…it will be his word against hers.

Ivan finds Brenda in her bed; she doesn’t feel well. When her urges her to get dressed because she needs to be at her sister’s wedding. Ivan reproaches her for always trying to get attention. He orders her to get dressed but she refuses. When Brenda tells him that Julia is his favorite, Ivan admits that Julia doesn’t give him headaches; she has a career and is marrying a successful man. Benda doesn’t know why Julia is Ivan’s favorite since her wedding is a big lie; she doesn’t know why she is marrying Diego when Julia is in love with Ringo and wonders what Ivan will do when Julia takes off with Ringo. She, on the other hand, has a decent boyfriend. Ivan growls that she’d better get dressed or he will dress her—she has 10 minutes!!

Alejo gets a call from Chimo who is demanding the money he owes Don Carmelo (since he lost on that fight he bet on). Chemo reminds him that he shouldn’t mess with Don Carmelo. As Alejo leaves his office, he meets up with Manuel who gets a call from the landlord of his building. The landlord heard a lot noise coming from his apartment…it sounded like an explosion.

Oso asks Rafa to help out by sparring with Ringo. Just then Rosa walks out and Oso starts salivating. Rafa suggests that he not be so obvious. Gauchin then calls Rosa since he remembered that it was the doc’s wedding day, When Rosa tells him that she got a new dress and shoes, Gauchin asks her to send her a pic, Oso grabs the phone and tells Gauchin to take all the time he wants to be with his father.

Diego apologizes to the judge since they are running late because of the bride’s sister. Lupe then calls him over and tells him to calm down…maybe this is a sign that he shouldn’t get married. Turco then approaches and teases Diego that the bride may have changed her mind.

Rosa and Eva enter to see Julia. Julia is very grateful that Rosa is there. When Julia explains that they are waiting on Brenda, Eva thinks that Brenda is doing a favor if they have to suspend the wedding. Rosa notes that Julia seems sad; so, Julia admits that she is afraid that she may be making a mistake. Rosa advises that if she is having doubts, then she shouldn’t get married. When Julia has no doubts about what she feels, Rosa wonders if she is talking about her feelings for Ringo or for Diego, but Julia insists that she can’t let Diego down…. they’ve been together for too long and she would be hurting several people, not just Diego. Rosa argues that she and others will also be hurt if she gets married, but Julia is not going to change her life for a mere fantasy. Rosa points out that what she is feeling is love for Ringo…and Ringo loves her very much. Just then Ivan enters and assures Julia that she is going to be very happy. When he tries to lead her out, Julia freezes. Ivan asks Julia what is wrong, so she asks him to leave her alone for a moment. After Ivan leaves, Julia wonders what she should do.

Ep. 19, Part 2: Burning Down the House…Watch Out, You Might Get What You Asked For

At the club, Ringo is training. He looks at his watch and wonders “Why. Julia, whyyy???”

Eva wonders why Julia doesn’t come out and if Rosa said something to Julia. Rosa admits that she did point out some things to Julia. Eva agrees that the problem is that Julia does not love Diego, but refuses to accept it.

Leaving his building, Manuel tells Alejo that he was lucky not have been home. When he wonders where he should stay, Alejo invites him to stay with him. Just then Chima calls and tells Alejo that Don Carmelo will give him one week to pay up.

Everyone claps as Ivan escorts Julia out to the reception.

At the club, Oso and Antunes talk about the match between Rosa and La Zorra. Antunes demands that Rosa be knocked out during the first minute of the third round. After they agree, Oso tells Antunes to warn La Zorra that Rosa has her own skills and she won’t be going down that easy. Oso then calls for Ringo.

At the reception, Ivan talks about the not so happy couple. Diego then takes the mic and tells Julia that ever since the first time he saw her, he knew that she was the woman he wanted to marry and form a family with children. He loves her with all his heart. He then passes the mic to Julia.

Rafa tell Oso that Ringo in nowhere to be found.

Julia begins that she has known Diego for many years. She decided to marry him because they are good friends…they know each other very well and they understand and respect each other. She knows that these values will assure that…she stops when she sees Ringo enter.

Before Antunes leaves, he tells Oso that they will see each other in one month…which surprises Oso. Tere then enters and is upset to see that Antunes was there…she can’t stand him. Just then, she has a slight mishap and drops the tray. She is shaken because she doesn’t know how she could have dropped the tray.

The judge goes through the wedding vows. When he asks Julia if she takes Diego as her husband she hesitates. Carrizo sees Ringo and goes to taunt him about losing Julia. Rosa comes and stops them from going at each other. Inside, the judge again asks if Julia will take Diego as her husband.

The judge tells Julia that they are waiting for her answer; so, Julia finally states that she accepts Diego. Everyone claps as Ringo sadly watches and is led away by Rosa. Outside Ringo asks Rosa to go bring Santi out so he can see him. Inside, after Brenda and Lupe toast to the odd couple Brenda laughs and mocks as she repeats that Julia got married to her good friend. When Diego and Julia approach, Brenda leaves and Lupe tells them that one of her workers saw a young woman lurking outside their house. Julia and Lupe start arguing when Julia insists that it was her father behind the fire. After Diego’s friends come for him, Julia sees Santi with Rosa who is taking Santi out to see Ringo; and. Julia offers to take Santi out. Outside, Ringo tells Santi that he just wanted to see him. When Ringo turns and sees Julia, he is surprised that she brought Santi out. Santi then comments about how pretty Julia looks and adds that his father is more handsome that her boyfriend. Julia quickly agrees.

Inside, Rosa tells Eva that Julia took Santi out to see Ringo. Carrizo then grabs Rosa to go dance, but when he manhandles her, she elbows him and storms off. Elsewhere, Gloria wonders where Santi is and goes to look for him.

Outside Ringo tells Santi to go back in before his mother sees that he is missing. Ringo then tells Julia that for a moment he thought Julia was going to change her mind. Julia admits that she did hesitate but now, it is done...she couldn’t back out.

Inside, Gloria finds Santi who admits that he was his father. When she tries to go yell at Ringo, Santi stops her and tells her that he wants to see his father despite what the judge said. When Santi shouts that he can’t stand Turco, Gloria wonders how Santi feels about her, but Santi avoids the question and asks that she bring him a piece of cake. Later, Gloria brings Santi some strawberry cake, but Santi tells Gloria that he doesn’t like strawberries; she knows nothing about him where Ringo knows everything that he likes.

Outside, Julia tells Ringo that she isn’t sure what was happening between them when Diego comes out and wonders why Julia is out there; so, she explains that he brought Santi out to see Ringo. After Ringo congratulates Diego, Diego snidely offers him some food…in case he is hungry…or he can ask one of the waiters to bring out some food for him to take with him. Julia then interrupts and tells Diego that they should go inside, but as they walk in, Julia looks back sadly at Ringo.

Those are the 3 “Ringo’s” I forgot to put at the start in the 3 parts of the recap. And pardon all the typos, you can probably figure out what I was trying to say, but there is one sentence In Part 1 that needs to be corrected—

When Diego and Gloria were talking— “Diego reiterates that Ringo won’t be able to prove anything, and if she opens her mouth, she will be the one to end up in jail...it’ll be her word against his.”

Thank you, Diana and RgvChick, for going above and beyond writing a recap on Xmas and filling in especially the first hour. I missed the first fifty minutes as I was still bingeing “A Christmas Story” after watching “ Dolemite is My Name” and had forgotten that “Ringo” was on.

Anyway, I was counting on Brenda to stop the wedding somehow or someway and she didn’t come through. The character is truly useless. Bah Humbug!

I loved Ringo giving it one more try by showing up at the wedding. What a welcome sight he made standing at the door!

After being embarrassed at the wedding ceremony in more ways than one with Julia’s less than enthusiastic presence and responses and if Diego had any brains, he would have called off the wedding then and there because Julia proved last night SHE has no brain. Yada, yada, yada with her feeling of “moral obligation” in marrying her “best friend” Diego. I remember the days when your husband was not your best friend; he was not expected to be and that was just fine. Julia has missed something along the way . . .

I also did not like Julia’s dress. She reminded me of a nun. So there! ; )

The only saving grace is that this was the “civil “ ceremony only which means we can still hope for a church wedding with Ringo after the easy peasy divorce. They could give Julia and Ringo a guest episode on “La Rosa de Guadalupe” and solve this all in one episode!!! Anyway, before I digress even more, I will be watching tonight!

Well, time for some café. It is going to be in the 60’s today and I plan to be outside enjoying it.

Your excellent recap was a wished for Christmas present.

So many telling events you wrapped up beautifully in a bow: "Gloria brings Santi some strawberry cake, but Santi tells Gloria that he doesn’t like strawberries; she knows nothing about him where Ringo knows everything that he likes". A mother to whom her son is a stranger.

"Julia begins that she has known Diego for many years. She decided to marry him because they are good friends…they know each other very well and they understand and respect each other". Not one mention of love. Julia should not have gone through with it. I agree with Teresa. Ringo should look elsewhere (as I roll my eyes that of course that won't happen).

Alejo is in trouble. Thank you for explaining the situation - I am very afraid for him.

Of course Oso is too old for Rosa. BUT he's Cesar Evora! :)

Ah you two crazy, gifted, wonderful hard-working ladies!-- can't believe you decided to do full recaps of this during Christmas. Hoping that a multitude of angels watch over you during this time of celebrating. Holidays are not holidays for women. They are times of extra work and stress. And still you two took this one.

DIANA...Loved the title and the song reference. You are becoming our Madalyn with your music shout-outs.

Loved also every word of your thoughtful prologue, but especially this:

I wish you a miracle when you need it most, an angel when you least expect it and much hope and love today and always.

I will hold that thought for all people, young and old today.

What a perfect description this was!:

"Sad, she replies, as Diego the snake, slithers in offering tea."

This actor is truly the most repellent villain I've ever watched in a telenovela. I'm glad, as UA mentioned, that it's more fun to play the bad guys, because this is the only type of role he will ever be offered I think.

And had to laugh at your characterization of Brenda's original wedding dress. Yes, it was totally vulgar. A cheap choice after she trashed the dress the fashion designer made for her. I think she is one of my least favorite characters in all the telenovelas I've watched.

Perfect followup on the title and then this made me laugh out loud:

But I have to agree with Diana, yes there's a terrible age difference, but it's Cesar Evora! And as he said to his amused son at one point "Tengo mis encantos". He sure does. That voice overrides anything else. Who wouldn't want that deep, textured purring in her ear? Wowza.

And if this were real life, rather than "just a story" I would opine that what Rosa needs in her life now is an older man who is protective and past the age (we hope!) of infidelity and abandonment (which I'm assuming happened with the father of her child).
So, in spite of the glaring age difference, it's a good choice. Guachin, of the unfortunate hair, is not.

Thank you, Jarifa; and a double thank you to Diana--one for the recap which including another of her beautiful prologue and the other for her kind words and thoughts on the second half..oh and one more thank you for the title, which again, she came up with. From the prologue, I especially liked, Angels are not necessarily spirits. They walk among us, spreading hope, encouragement, support and empathy. Those who make the world a better, happier place simply because they exist in it. They are here, there and everywhere. I am so grateful for all the angels that surround me!

I was surprised to see Ringo go back home after he drove Julia to the reception. Normally drivers are made to stick around to drive off the happy couple. But he did make it back and made Julia shake in her boots (or shoes, rather). How really stupid it was of Julia to go through with the wedding; she couldn't even force herself to lie and say that she loved Diego. I guess this is the only thing the writers could come up with to prolong the agony (ours and Ringo's). And to top it off, she goes out to see Ringo and admits that she didn't really want to get married! Such a cowardly fool!

I thought Julia's dress was nice and simple, though not a dress I would expect for a bride who has spent MONTHS planning her wedding. And I could not believe that they only had a civil ceremony...which was good but, again, according to Julia she had been planning her wedding for months and the ceremony and reception certainly didn't reflect all her supposed work.

Diana, "And of course the civil ceremony and "nun" garb :) were giveaways this will not be a permanent union." I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an annulment by Monday, but I'm a little too optimistic, right?

It wasn't good that Brenda burned down Julia's house of agony, but she may have done her a favor. If I had to be in that bright orange kitchen every day, I might burn it down too.

Diana and Rgv Chick, muchisimas gracias! I was glad the writers got on with the wedding (if it had to happen), so you'd at least get a festive occasion to recap, since you went waaaaay above the call of duty for us on Christmas Day. Thanks for fabulous recaps.

I joined the villains (Gloria, Turco, Carrizo, Brenda) in snickering when Julia said she was marrying Diego because they are "good friends."

Jarifa, Julia's gown reminded me of a nun too. Hmmm, and no veil.

Loved when Santi complained to Gloria that she didn't even know he can't stand strawberries. Though the food folks must've gotten their signals crossed because I didn't see any strawberries on the cake.

Oh no, looks like Teresa will have a health issue.

So Alejo is betting on underground street fighting? You'd think he'd know better. Guess he likes to play with fire, just like Brenda. Honestly, the smell of smoke and lighter fluid on Brenda's hair and clothes should've given her away.

Judy, gracias dear friend. What beautiful words and sentiments! In terms of the TN, we are on the same page as usual. Brenda and Diego have no redeeming qualities and are not in the least bit likeable. Not my favorites either!

I loved "That voice overrides anything else. Who wouldn't want that deep, textured purring in her ear? Wowza". Wouldn't that be wonderful!

I've been able to keep up this week only because I am off from work. I watch the first hour as I take notes. Then I try to watch as much of the second hour as possible, otherwise, I have no idea what is going on. I finish up in the third hour. I'm not worrying about hurrying so I can get a few hours of sleep. I would not be able to do this during my normal working week, so am relieved we are going back to 1 hour episodes next week.

Rgv Chick, savored your comments particularly on Julia:"she couldn't even force herself to lie and say that she loved Diego. I guess this is the only thing the writers could come up with to prolong the agony (ours and Ringo's)". Oh so right! And as I just couldn't get what she did last night out of my head (as apparently none of the patio can!) she is at the center of my prologue tonight.
