Standing in the Shadows of Love (Four Tops) Part 1

The tapestry of each of our lives is unique. The threads of our decisions are woven into the fabric making each pattern special and different. There are few straight lines. The stitches zig. They zag. Two stitches forward. Three back. They intersect, sometimes in tandem, other times apart. There are times in our lives when we find ourselves at a crossroad where a difficult decision needs to be made. Some choose love and happiness. Others honor and duty. Some choose selfishly, others are selfless. But all decisions have consequences. Some significant, other not. Some life altering, not only for ourselves but for others.

Julia has chosen the path that will honor her commitment. It is the safe option, one chosen to fulfill an obligation. In her heart, she harbors the realization it is a mistake, yet she pressed forward. She has forsaken the possibility of love in favor of a lie. To herself. And Diego. But the damage is done. At least for the time being…

Outside, Julia tells Ringo that she isn’t sure what was happening between them. Diego chooses that moment to slither out asking why Julia is there and she explains she brought Santi out to see Ringo. Even though Ringo proves he is the better man by congratulating Diego, Diego insults Ringo by saying food can be brought out “to go”. Julia guides Diego back inside, but she turns around and looks sadly at Ringo.

Manuel shows up at Alejo’s along with a dizzying number of boxes. Alejo is nonplussed.

As the wedding winds down, Julia stands on a chair, throwing the bouquet which Rosa catches. Brenda and Lupe look on disdainfully. There’s a fox (or a snake) in the henhouse as Diego steps onstage and steals Julia for kisses and a dance. Ringo watches helplessly.

Turco and Gloria put Santi to bed. Be careful she admonishes Turco. She takes off Santi’s shoes and tie and unbuttons his shirt, kissing him.

A distraught Ringo comes home to Teresa. Teresa empathizes as Gloria, who must have flown over on her broom, bangs on the door. After whining “I hate you” multiple times Turco calls and Gloria high tails it out of there. Not sure if the hate was directed at Ringo or Turco. Or both.

Oso playing a keyboard, is singing with gusto, moving and grooving. Rosa arrives, smiling away. He wrote a song and off key and ridiculous as the scene is, it IS Cesar Evora so all is forgiven. Susanna comes in asking for Rafael. He’s not here. Rosa tries to leave, Oso stops her. They utter sweet good nights.

Standing in the Shadows of Love (Four Tops) Part 2

Brenda is dancing like a loon as Diego appears to be stifling a smile. Diego and Julia are ready to leave for their honeymoon as Elsa offers her congratulations. Ringo enters and can’t help but stare as Julia returns his gaze. Ringo hopes coffee will help. I would say something in a bottle might be more appropriate. Diego struggles to push two suitcases with wheels. Wimp. Julia goes back for her cell and Ringo is right there. She waves then goes in and they hug wordlessly. She kisses him on the cheek and runs out.

When Gloria arrives home she is met by a raging Turco who shakes her and holds her by the throat. She has obvious reason to be afraid.

We are treated to a series of very short sequences indicating the passage of time. We see Ringo in various training scenes. Guachin is his partner and Ringo appears to be in great shape and is very quick.

Alejo pays Chima. Gloria tries to play nice with Santi - he is not having it. Brenda and Alejo kiss, Brenda who is not of this planet and the oblivious Alejo who at least is in possession of most of his faculties. Eva and Max smile at each other; Manuel, Eva and Alejo have dinner. Brenda and Diego toast at some exotic location.

Several weeks later, Oso and Rafa are still putting Ringo through the paces. He is doing some impossible looking tortuous pushups while his lower half is being held up in the air. Turco is also training and while jogging, is distracted by several women.. They run off. Carrizo laughs as do we. Turco looks good but he’s no finely chiseled Ringo.

Rosa greets Guachin. Teresa arrives with pain in her wrist and hand. She brushes it off as Rosa looks concerned.

Julia and Diego are back from their honeymoon as Ivan and Elsa greet them. Diego is all smarmy smiles as he announces everything was “marvelous”. Brenda steals Julia away as Elsa easily picks up the same suitcases Diego struggled with. Brenda surprises Julia with a childlike set of pictures strung over her bed.

Rosa calls Julia, telling her about Teresa. Guachin starts to put the moves on Rosa as Oso walks in. Not exactly a clash of the titans but suffice it to say there was plenty of chest puffing.. Oso looks handsome in a beige jacket and blue shirt. Rosa flirts a bit.

Oso and Ringo (looking pretty hawt himself) meet up as Julia arrives at work.

Standing in the Shadows of Love (Four Tops) Part 3

Turco and Ringo are scheduled to be interviewed on TV. Turco walks across the stage walking like an Egyptian, looking every inch the idiot that he is (somewhere the Bangles are cringing) Where’s the camera he asks. Gloria my love, you are a grand woman, I love you he avers, blowing a kiss. He next speaks to Santi, winking into the camera. Watching from home, Santi is annoyed and Gloria wants to change the channel. Teresa is ticked off and rants to Pepe and Damasio.

Ex-champion Ringo is next. Ringo is civilized until Turco starts in, insulting Ringo, but Ringo keeps his cool. Julia arrives for coffee. Teresa winces in pain and Julia insists on taking her hand. Julia thinks Teresa has arthritis so she shouldn’t be working at the cafeteria. She asked Rosa if she would be interested in helping out at the cafeteria. Julia tells Ringo about the arthritis and urges him to make sure that Teresa goes for some tests. She mentioned that Teresa shouldn’t be working at the cafeteria because of the extreme temperatures.

The Boxing Club interview continues. Turco cries about his mother – she abandoned him. He speaks into the camera, in tears, directly to her. Do we believe him?

The interviewer then asks about the fight where Turco almost killed Menchaca. Turco said that Menchaca was not prepared to fight him...and the only one to blame was Oso. Oso is ready to charge.

Later, Alejo complains it is impossible living with Manuel but Eva laughingly says she can’t help.

Brenda calls Alejo to whine as Eva frowns. He agrees to march right over. Are you ok Max asks. Yes. She is too upset to talk and puts Max off.

Lupe visits Brenda. While Brenda is getting dressed., Lupe removes her bra and writes a note, tucking it into the top draw of the nightstand.

Guachin watches Rosa work out but she runs him off when Julia comes in.

There is a scene where Oso and a man have a discussion on the street which I didn’t follow.

Alejo is called and told the Don wants more money.

In the final scene for the first hour, Gloria brings Santi over to Teresa and Ringo’s delight. Gloria tells an agitated Ringo what has been going on.

Good evening everyone.

It seemed as though there really wasn't much action in the first hour tonight. That is of course, except for the bra left in the nightstand. But it turns out that was a bust.

OK, I'm so sorry. I just couldn't help myself. It's late. Sigh. :)

Ep. 21, Part 1: …I’m Getting Ready for the Heartaches to Come…

At the Garay house, the family is having dinner and discussing the interview between Ringo and Turco. Diego thinks that boxers are savages…Ringo even elbowed him on his way out. Brenda thinks Ringo was probably just getting back at Diego since he is in love with Julia…and he was also after her (Brenda).

Oso goes to see Rosa. When he sees her in her little dress he is pleasantly surprised. Oso tells Rosa about bumping into Jose Manuel Figueroa who stole his songs. He wants to concentrate on what they have pending since that will help him forget about his bad afternoon. Gauchin arrives and chides Rosa; he calls her a traitor. Rosa wants to explain, but Oso doesn’t think she should. Gauchin wants to know what Rosa is doing with someone who could be her grandfather. Rosa tries to explain that they are not going out, but Gauchin insists that she decide between the two; so, Rosa tells Gauchin that he is just a friend…and she blurts out that she can’t commit to anyone because she is a married woman! (Ding, ding, ding!!)

Diego and Julia are in their bedroom. Diego complains about Brenda always ruining everything. He berates Ringo since he is always a topic of conversation and now Brenda is going out with Ringo’s best friend. Julia thinks Diego should let others live their own lives.

Brenda is clinging to Alejo when he gets a call from Manuel who can’t find some utensils. Manuel finds the card that indicates Alejo is a member of the Club del Valle. Alejo lies and tells him that it is an old membership card. After he hangs up, Alejo tells Brenda that he was talking to her uncle who is staying with him for a while.

After Julia goes to the bathroom, Diego finds the bra Lupe planted with the note that she left it so that he could think of her. He hides it under the bed as Julia comes out. Diego is not happy that Julia is going to work on her laptop.

Alejo asks Brenda about her relationship with Ringo. Brenda tells him that Ringo was after her, but it never got past some kisses…but she needs a man who is more like her…educated and well-presented, like Alejo. Brenda then asks if Alejo is a boxer since he has a sack in his apartment. When Alejo assures her that he is not, Brenda describes the type of man she likes…a winner and ambitious too. When Ivan knocks, Alejo and Brenda quickly get up. Ivan suggests that it is too late for Alejo to be there. Brenda wants Alejo to spend the night, but Ivan reminds her that this is his house. After Ivan leaves, Brenda suggests that they go to a hotel room.

Carrizo and Turco are at the club where Carrizo points out that Turco is 2 kilos overweight. Damasio enters and tells Turco that the bets are in favor of Ringo to win. After Turco brags that he will knock out Ringo in the first round, he tells Carrizo to call Gloria but she doesn’t answer.

Gloria is still at Ringo’s house when Turco calls her. Gloria tells him that she and Santi are out for dinner. Turco tells her that he needs to curb his diet because he is a bit overweight. Once she hangs up, Gloria comes back as Tere and Santi leave the room. Ringo wonders why Gloria is really there, so she starts to cry because she feels really bad. She swears that she didn’t want things to turn out the way they did. She admits that she did spike his beer and asks him to forgive her. Ringo chides her for thinking that he would forgive her. He tells her that she will have to tell the judge what they did to take his son, but Gloria refuses and points out that he won’t be able to prove anything because there were no traces of the drug in his system. Gloria then admits that Turco was the one who gave her the black eye…and Diego was the one who planned everything.

Santi and Tere return. When Santi asks why Gloria is crying, Gloria comes up with a lame excuse and tells Santi that Ringo is very happy that they came to visit; and she is going to try to work things out so that he can see Ringo more often. After they leave, Tere wants to know what happened, but Ringo avoids answering.
 

Ep. 21, Part 2: …I’m Getting Ready for the Heartaches to Come…

Oso and Rafa are cleaning up Tere’s kitchen. Oso tells Rafa that they need to help out without Tere finding out since Tere is a very proud woman and will never accept help from anyone. When Damasio comes in, Oso asks Damacio to investigate Rosa’s husband; he wants to know everything about him. Damasio then mentions that Gauchin has already asked him to investigate who Rosa’s husband is. Gauchin then enters and they agree to come to a truce since it is a problem that they share. Rosa arrives and they all clam up. Oso demands to know why Rosa didn’t mention that she was married. When he asks why Rosa is not with her husband, Rose quickly exits to go train. Oso reiterates to Damasio that he wants to know e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

Diego chides Ringo for looking up at his wife’s window. He wants Ringo to stop bothering Julia. Ringo then accuses Diego of planning the incident with Gloria…Diego just wanted to make sure Julia thought he was an abuser because Diego knows that Julia loves him. After Diego points out that Julia married him, Ringo tells him that Julia only married him because she feels sorry for him. After Diego tells him that women like Julia will never be with someone like Ringo and calls Ringo a loser, Ringo starts pushing him. Julia comes out and asks what is going on; so, Diego tells her that all is well and they were only talking.

Oso calls Ringo and tell him that he needs to go weigh in today.

The three stooges (Oso, Damasio and Gauchin) listen in on Rosa’s telephone conversation. Oso orders Damasio to go start his investigation, but Damacio doesn’t think he has to go too far. Rosa then sees them and continues talking to her mother. Just then, a big wreath of flowers arrives. When they see that it is in memory of Ringo, they know Turco was behind the bad joke.

Alejo holds Brenda who is asleep and dreaming of Ringo. When she calls out Ringo’s name and wants a kiss, Alejo wakes her up but she denies thinking about Ringo and accuses Alejo of hallucinating.

After Pepe arrives at the club and sees the wreath, Ringo and Julia also arrive and see the wreath and the message, “In memory of Ringo, ex-husband, ex-boxer, ex-father, ex- everything.” Ringo laughs it off. Julia wants to know what was going on between him and Diego, but a woman arrives to see Julia so she can check her son who hurt his arm. After Julia suspects that the woman is lying about how the boy hurt his arm, Pepe recognizes the woman and tells Ringo that she is Pereyra’s wife…and her husband is an arms dealer.

Eva enters Max’s office to discuss a case but the conversation turns to her turning down his invite to go out. Eva suggests that Max invite the woman he left the seminary for. Max then explains how he first saw the woman and followed her to where she works…she is an attorney. Max thinks he should give up and accept that the woman will never be for him since she is in love with someone else.

Sandra arrives at the club with a huge sign that advertises the match between Turco and Ringo. After Turco arrives, Gauchin approaches and asks to talk to Oso. He gives Oso a paper and they become somber. Oso hands the paper to Turco since it is for him. It is supposedly from Turco’s mother who asks him to forgive her. She saw him on TV and is regretful, but very proud of the man who he has become…a champion. She will be with him and go see him fight. She hopes he doesn’t mind that she is rooting for Ringo because Ringo is better than he is. When everyone starts laughing, Turco knows that Oso and company are paying him back for the wreath. (Payback’s a witch, Tur-Key!)

Julia is finishing up with the boy. Julia tells Dulce, the mother, that she is going to have to report the injuries because she knows that they are not the result of a fall; it’s obvious that the boy was beaten. Julia urges Dulce to report her husband, but she refuses.

 

Ep. 21, Part 3: …I’m Getting Ready for the Heartaches to Come…

Diego and Lupe are in his office laughing about the little present she left for him. Lupe then tells him that a man who lives near his house saw a blond woman near his house on the day it burned down. Diego calls Brenda and asks her if she was at his house on the day of the fire. When Brenda denies it, Diego tells her that some neighbors saw her near the house (who’ s being burned now, Brendumb?)

Thanks, Diana and RgvChick, for keeping us up to date and the “Jackson Five” inspired titles. Loved them.

Best moment of the episode and the funniest: Oso and Guachin finding out that Rosa is married. Whoopsie!

Glad they brought back the child abuse PSA but will it put Julia in danger since she was told the father was dangerous/armed?

Slime ball Diego is still on the prowl. Yuck! Someone should have told Julia that self sacrifice isn’t necessarily rewarded; sometimes you just get spent.

Good Morning, Jarifa! I have to admit, though Oso tends to be a weepy wimp at times, I do enjoy his scenes and the one you cited where Rosa blurts out that she is married was my favorite, too.

Julia seems to put herself in harm's way. She is taking on Llorente, married a lyin', cheatin' scoundrel who will do anything to get what he wants and doesn't hesitate to hurt those who get in his way, and now she is advocating for a child whose father is apparently dangerous. If she comes out of this without some type of injury (other than an emotional one), I'll be surprised.

Diana and Rgv Chick, I feel totally spoiled receiving these fabulous double recaps. A great start to my day.

When Oso was laying out famous singer-songwriter Jose Manuel Figueroa for stealing his song, I kept looking at Ringo and Pepe to see if they would fall out of character and crack a smile during Figueroa's cameo, but they all played it straight. I love Oso singing, off key or not.

There's not an ounce of extra weight on Turco's body. Maybe the extra 2 kilos are from his fat head.

Diego is crud no doubt about it, but I do see why he's creeping with Lupe. Julia is showing no new bride gusto for him.

"but it was a bust"...Yikes, I think our Nina is catching! All good. You made me laugh with that one. And I love the titles that refer to songs. As I said before,it's a little shoutout and tribute to our dear Madalyn's talent in that department.

Certainly agreed about Oso:

For music lovers, that was a painful scene indeed. But for Cesar Evora lovers, it will pass.

Swinging those pool noodles to teach him to duck effectively was interesting. As were all those nicely ripped muscles. Definitely a treat for the eyes.

Well, our Rosa certainly upset the apple cart with her announcement.

And I guess we're all waiting to see what will cause the new marriage to explode. In the past we've had ridiculous maneuvers to keep the new bride a virgin until she can be claimed by her "real, true love" but they clearly don't bother with that anymore. I assume the honeymoon proceeded normally regardless of the tepid behavior at home. Frankly, living as newlyweds with a sister and father next door or down the hall would be a passion killer anyway.

Ah, but it's just a story, just a story! Thanks RGV CHICK, witty and entertaining.

First, Rgv Chick, your recap was beyond. There is nothing you don't see, don't capture, all extraordinarily well. Wonderful.

So Rosa is married? Now that was a shock and I'm not quite convinced that's the truth. But, an interesting twist.

"When she calls out Ringo’s name and wants a kiss, Alejo wakes her up but she denies thinking about Ringo and accuses Alejo of hallucinating". Seemingly sane, I'm beginning to doubt the stbility of Alejo's overall mental health. Good heavens man, do you honestly believe a word of that lie? Perhaps you and Brenda deserve each other.

I also loved "When Brenda denies it, Diego tells her that some neighbors saw her near the house (who’ s being burned now, Brendumb?)".

I can't say I feel too sorry for Gloria, although she knows if she tells the entire truth she has lost Santi forever.

So, I'm probably alone in this but I thought the fake letter from Turco's mother was a heartless stunt. We know Turco is evil but fighting cruelty in like kind just seems wrong. The best revenge is for Ringo to beat him in the arena.

Julia is reaping the consequences of her marriage. What did she think her life would be with a man like Diego? You put it best Jarifa with "Someone should have told Julia that self sacrifice isn’t necessarily rewarded; sometimes you just get spent". That is it!

You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones) Part 1

Everything is askew in Ringo’s universe. As of now, no one appears to be properly paired. It seems you can’t always get who you want either as evidenced by the current couplings.

Ringo wants Julia. Julia wants Ringo. Diego wants Julia. And Lupe. Lupe wants Diego. Brenda wants Ringo. Alejo wants Brenda. Eva wants Alejo. Max wants Eva. Guachin wants Rosa. Oso wants Rosa. Who does Rosa want?

Lust, need and desire are fierce emotions, often at odds. Our characters have a penchant for wanting who they can’t (and shouldn’t) have. Still they carry on, leading their lives as they believe they should or trying to convince themselves it is what they want. The truth is that not all will find love. Some do not understand that love means caring about another above yourself. That love is selfless, not self-serving. That it requires self-sacrifice and putting another’s needs above your own.

True love rarely runs smoothly but when finally found is honest and real. Love is resilient and determined. In the end, love often finds a way. Whether that occurs here remains to be seen…

Brenda gets a call from Diego asking if she was at his house when the fire occurred. “Brendumb” (thanks Rgv Chick) says no but Diego said she was seen. Ivan asks what the problem is and Brenda freaks out. Elsewhere, Diego and Lupe laugh at the bra incident and leave the office.

Julia goes investigating the case of child abuse, going to Dulce’s house. Dulce again denies her son was harmed by her husband. She is polite but anxious for Julia to leave. Then, she is interrupted by a man’s voice screaming. She asks Julia to leave and goes back in. Julia, realizing Dulce is lying, shakes her head, frustrated. Inside, Dulce is threatened and man handled as her son comes out and hugs his mother as she quickly ushers him out of the room.

Carrizo is on the floor in the gym sabotaging the scale. As Ringo weighs in, the number makes no sense. They try to figure out what happened (Oso is really upset) when gruesome Carrizo and Turco make their presence known, laughing like the idiots they are. The official weigh in ceremony is about to begin. Damasio is salivating at the women working the ring. Turco comes out to applause. Initially, Ringo is booed but when the crowd comes to their senses, that changes. Diego slithers in and squeals on his conversation with Gloria and Turco’s attention is momentarily diverted . Now cheers of “Ringo” permeate the air. Ringo is going to step on the scale but Carrizo stops him saying the champion Turco goes first. Teresa looks like she wishes she is anywhere but there, giving Turco the stink eye from the sidelines. Ringo (looking pretty damn fine) is next. Now, there is a throng of press feverishly taking pictures. With impeccable timing, Turco taunts Ringo , Ringo pops him and a melee ensures. Teresa starts rolling up her sleeves – is she ready to join the fray?

You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones) Part 2

Alejo was not ringside. Manuel challenges him as to why he wasn’t there. Alejo, (still suffering from his lover calling Ringo’s name in her feverish sleep) snaps back angrily that Ringo is not the center of my universe. Manuel looks understandably surprised. As we now know, Alejo is dumber than dirt.

Teresa is still wound up complaining to Rosa and Pepe. Julia comes in and asks what happened. Pepe recounts and Julia asks if Ringo is OK.

Santi and Gloria are at home when Turco comes in like a bull and asks Santi to leave. Gloria tries to reassure Turco nothing is wrong. Oso calls Manuel. Manuel talks with his staff, Eva, Max and Alejo. Alejo is truculent and Manuel excuses the others to speak with him alone. “Ringo, Ringo, Ringo” Alejo spits out in jealous bitterness. This is not the only character who will utter Ringo’s name thrice this night. 😊

Next ivan, Oso, Diego and Damasio (blowing Elsa a kiss) negotiate but unless he is offered an apology of several million pesos, Antúnez will cancel the fight.

Eva tries to talk to Alejo to find out what’s wrong. He is irritable and in no mood to talk. Eva has a hurt look in her eye. Viewerville urges her to look elsewhere. Sigh.

Rafa goes over to Rosa’s as Guachin listens at the door open mouthed and wide eyed. Oso is seething about the money when Guachin calls Oso squealing on Rosa being with Rafa. Oso says do nothing I’ll be over. He quickly leaves.

Julia and Ringo talk as he rests his finger under her chin. He is not giving up. After he leaves, the child abuser attacks Julia. Ringo hears her screams and punches the wall instead of the perpetrator. The attacker leaves as Ringo envelops Julia in a bear hug, his hand obviously injured.

Oso shows up at Rafa’s and the facial expressions are priceless. Rafa opens the door as Oso verbally attacks him, calling his son, his own blood, a traitor. Rosa angrily interjects and tells them to come in. They were making signs. That’s it. Oso has the grace to look embarrassed.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones) Part 3

It’s an ice bath for Ringo’s hand. Ringo asks if it was the abuser, she says yes. Julia gingerly tests his hand. She pulls professional physician rank and tells him to keep his hand iced. He moves in for a kiss. She demurs she is married to Diego and things stop there. Ringo salutes Julia with the ice bucket and leaves.

Oso tries to take his leave but Rosa and Rafa are ticked. Oso awkwardly apologizes but Rosa states the obvious – your own son? Gauchin watches Oso leave.

Chima visits Alejo regarding his owed money and runs into Manuel bearing what he claims is delicious salsa.

Diego and Ivan are talking as Julia and Ringo come in. Diego goes in for a huge ostentatious hug. She explains what happened. Needless to say, they are not supportive of her social work but Ivan does thank Ringo.

Oso comes home to Rafa cooking a meal, sputtering out an apology. Rafa is really angry. Don’t be so dramatic Oso says. Guachin shows up with a radio at Rosa’s and asks forgiveness. She agrees. He misinterprets and has a smile a mile wide. He thinks she will divorce and they will ride off into the sunset. He’s kind of cute just too young. She lets him down gently. He is not gracious as he grabs his radio and leaves.

Oso and Rafa are both tearful and emotional as they come to terms.

Diego gets nasty with Julia. “Ringo, Ringo, Ringo” he shouts. Hmmm, the “I hate Ringo” rallying cry of the night! If you love me you will stay away from Ringo forever he states.

Rosa tells Julia about the penalty. is it legal? Julia looks thoughtful. Julia runs into Ringo and takes his hand as he grimaces. Damasio is taking notes and tells Oso about Ringo’s hand. Ringo brushes off Oso’s concerns.

Julia calls Manuel. She is going to see him. She has an idea!

Brenda leaves the house, ready for a run. We see a man hiding behind a tree, watching her. He is not alone. Diego and Lupe are next to him in a car. They confirm Brenda’s identify with the eyewitness. He IDs her. Brenda is “made”!

Ep. 23, Part 1: …But If You Try, Sometimes You Find You Get What You Need

At Tere’s cafeteria, Ringo sees Alejo and asks why he didn’t go to the weigh-in. Alejo had things to do. When Ringo asks what has him so preoccupied and wonders if it’s Brenda, Alejo prefers that Ringo tell him what happened between him and Brenda. Ringo assures him that nothing happened; he would never want to get involved with someone like Brenda who is not right in the head. When Alejo accuses him of lying, Ringo gives up and tells him that he has enough to worry about; Ringo doesn’t need to be fighting with Alejo because of Brenda. Ringo then asks if Alejo is going to the fight, so Alejo tells him he is not...he is tired of covering Ringo’s back…and if he wants to go out with a crazy girl, it is his problem (glutton for punishment!)

Manuel enters Oso’s office and introduces Estela who wants Ringo to promote her spa; she is willing to pay 50,000 pesos. Oso quickly agrees and assures her that Ringo will have the name of her spa on his clothes.

Diego is having a hissy fit about Brenda burning down his house. He tells Lupe that he is going to make sure she goes to jail…and complains about his father in law who always protects Brenda and refuses to do anything about her. After Diego hisses that he wants Brenda to be locked up in the looney bin, Lupe tells him to be very careful about how he tells Ivan and Julia. Ivan enters and Diego tells him that the person that was seen lurking around his house by a neighbor was Brenda.

Oso accepts the money from Estela who hopes Ringo gives Turco a good beating. When Oso tells her that she arrived like an angel and that she saved their lives, Estela is quite impressed with Oso’s way of speaking and invites him to visit her spa.

Ivan can’t believe it was Brenda who started the fire; he thinks the neighbor must have been mistaken. Diego reminds him that he and Julia have been trying to tell him that Brenda has problems. After Ivan asks Lupe to leave, he warns Diego that he’d better not talk badly about Brenda especially in front of someone not of the family. Ivan continues that Brenda loves her sister and would never to do anything to hurt her; and he warns Diego not to tell Julia anything. Ivan will not allow Diego to slander Brenda.

Damasio enters Antunes’s office and gives him their part of the fine. Antunes smirks as he sees the money.

Manuel enters Julia’s office and tells her that their mission was accomplished. They recall how Julia gave Manuel the money for Ringo’s fine and how they planned to give it to Oso without him suspecting that the money really came from Julia. Julia would have like to meet Estela so she could thank her. Just then Ringo enters so Manuel leaves. Julia asks how he is; so, Ringo tells her that he is very worried because his hand hurts. He asks her to give him something for the pain.

Turco calls Gloria and asks where she is. She lies and tells him that she and Santi went out for hamburgers.

 

Ep. 23, Part 2: …But If You Try, Sometimes You Find You Get What You Need

Oso gives Ringo a chain and a pendant…for protection. Oso points out the he didn’t give Ringo the chain during his last fight, and things did not turn out well. Oso then asks for Alejo; and when Ringo tells him that Alejo won’t be going to the fight, Alejo exits to call Alejo. Oso talk about Alejo as they get ready to leave to the boxing arena. Teresa then approaches and gives Ringo her blessing. She has never been in agreement with his fighting, but she asks that he be careful. Ringo assures her that he won’t only win; he will be a champion. Santi runs in followed by Gloria. Santi assures him that he will be going to the fight. Oso returns since he couldn’t get a hold of Alejo and tells Ringo that they need to get going. As Ringo exits, his fans greet him with cheers. Julia comes out and joins the others as she smiles at Ringo who is getting into the car and very happy to see her.

At the arena dressing room, Ringo calls Alejo and urges him to come to his fight. As they prepare Ringo for the fight, Oso explains to Rafa about using candles as part of a ceremony before the fight; it’s a tradition of the Delta Boxing Club.

In the other dressing room, Carrizo is pumping up Turco for the fight. Meanwhile, Oso gives Ringo a pep talk as melodramatic music resounds in the background. Oso then tells Gauchin that Rafa will accompany him at the ringside corner. Gauchin seethes with jealousy. After Oso spots Ringo working his left hand, Oso squeezes the hand to confirm that it is hurt. Diego passes by and eavesdrops as Ringo explains how he hurt his hand. Oso wants to suspend the fight, but Ringo insists that he has to fight. Diego slithers off to tell Turco that Ringo hurt his hand; Turco needs to use that to his advantage.

Brenda goes to Alejo’s place so that they can go to the fight together. When he tells her that he isn’t going, Brenda assumes that he had a falling out with Ringo and stays with him to watch the fight on TV. She is glad that Alejo is standing his ground with Ringo and not being his shadow. Alejo grits his teeth as he gives Brenda a look of annoyance.

Julia calls Eva so that they can watch the fight together.

Ivan is interviewed. He tells the reporter that Turco is sure to win. At the ringside, Gauchin continues to complain to Rosa about Oso not allowing to be with him at the ring corner when they spot La Zorra.

At Tere’s cafeteria, Max, Pepe Manuel and Damasio chat before the fight. Tere approaches and asks Max to pray for Ringo since she knows he had studied to be a seminarian. Max then asks Manuel for Eva; so, Manuel tells him that Eva stayed at the office to finish some work.

Julia arrives at Eva’s office. When Eva asks how married life is, Julia tells her that everyone asks her that, but she feels no difference from before the wedding. Julia then asks Eva how things are going with her so Eva tells her that there is nothing with Alejo, but she found about Max leaving the seminary for a woman…and the woman is her.

 

Ep. 23, Part 3: …But If You Try, Sometimes You Find You Get What You Need

The ring announcer introduces Turco and Ringo. Ringo walks out first and greets his fans who are cheering for him. After he enters the ring, he sees Santi cheering for him. Turco then jumps out and almost falls. The spectators shout their BOOS as he enters the ring, but Turco is not phased. Rafa is rushing out when he bumps into La Zorra who spills her drink. After she stomps off, Rafa looks at her with goo-goo eyes. As the referee starts to give Ringo and Turco the usual instructions, Julia enters and Ringo smiles as he looks at her.

The first round starts and everyone cheers for Ringo. Turco and Ringo throw a few jabs.

At Alejo’s place, Alejo watches attentively, but Brenda looks bored and wants his attention; she’d rather that they watch a movie. When she mentions that Ringo is going to lose, Alejo assures her that he will win. After Brenda berates Ringo and tells Alejo that he needs to stop being Ringo’s shadow, Alejo tells her to be quiet; Ringo is like a brother to him; so, Brenda asks him why he isn’t with Ringo if Ringo is like a brother to him…she only wants Alejo to feel that he is better than Ringo.

The boxing match continues. Ringo throws some strong punches as Turco grimaces and holds up his arms in defense. Ringo pins Turco against the ropes and he continues to pound on him as the first round concludes.

Good continuing and realistic PSA on child /domestic abuse when the perpetrator is a danger to all. What to do? Sacrifice the wife and children out of fear when threatened? Report it to the authorities? Then what? More threats and violence as the authorities deal with the perpetrator? Be interesting to see how this dicey situation is played through in Mexican telenovelaland with Julia in the middle of it.

So, we know that Iván is responsible for minimizing Brenda’s major mental heath issues. He needs help himself. I wonder who she will have to put in danger before he decides to deal with her.

Who else thinks that Ringo AND Diego are BOTH going to have a problem WHEN (I cannot imagine it remaining a secret) they find out Julia sponsored his fight?

Can’t wait to see how the fight turns out. Ringo deserves a break already and not just in his left hand . . .

First of all, I totally forgot yesterday about a line I loved from DIANA'S prologue...

. But all decisions have consequences. Some significant, other not. Some life altering, not only for ourselves but for others.

So true and I've seen it played out so many times. And yet we continue to act and make rash decisions, heedless of the consequences.

But now back our regularly scheduled program!

Still delighted with these title shoutouts to great old songs, and loved RGV CHICK's followup to the title. Just perfect.

Had to laugh when I read "Ringo (looking pretty damn fine)."

Yes, indeed, I've never been a José Ron fan, but he is absolutely one gorgeous hunk of man in this story. The eyes, the deltoids, the six-pack, the....Well, If I continue I'm going to sound as vulgar as that "misunderstanding" of Guachin and Oso outside Rosa's door. So I'll stop. But comedy number did remind me of those old "as the actress said to the Bishop" which made almost any normal statement sound raunchy.

Another thing I'm enjoying, other than Ringo's fine musculature is how Gloria has Turco whipped down to a choirboy. Just fun to see her bashing him down time after time.

As for Julia, honestly, if she weren't the obvious heroine, we'd dismiss her as a cheap tease, wouldn't we? Clearly, Diego isn't worthy of her fidelity, but still, she IS married. And continuing to cozy up to a fella she knows is crazy in love with her.

Anyway, thanks to my two real-life heroines for pounding out these double recaps during Christmas week. A dark time of year, in spite of the holiday, so thanks for brightening up our mornings with these fine resumés of the action.

So Eva know Max left the seminary for her. She seems flattered but nothing beyond that.

The last time I watched a TN with José Ron was La Que No Podía Amar, where he lost the protagonista to Jorge Salinas. He was cute in that, but oh my! he’s done a verrry nice job training for the boxing role. You too, Turco.

Alejo looks so miserable sitting on the couch with Brenda. Maybe he'll come to his senses and head to Ringo’s corner.

Yes, Ringo needs to stop trying to kiss Julia. Enough already. She made her decision. But Julia should realize she's cheating on Diego in her heart. Julia, check out Jimmy Carter's long-ago confession.

Jose looks fabulous here and Alfredo Gatica is handsome just like his father/uncle (?) Luis Gatica who I've always had a bit of a crush on (after Yanez of course) :) I believe Luis has a cameo in this. I'm also waiting for Alberto Estrella to appear!

And yes, perhaps Julia should "check out Jimmy Carter's long-ago confession". Spot on!!!

Julia is a cheater, whether or not she gets physical with Ringo (and they’ve kissed already anyway? Before her marriage?). Diego may be cheating on her, but it doesn’t absolve her of anything because she’s responsible for her actions. Wonder how she’ll react when she finds out Diego hasn’t been faithful? She really shouldn’t be able to say much. She seems like someone who can’t really commit, it’s all labels and duties for her.

If she’s really so concerned about her marriage and relationship with Diego, she should actually stay away from Ringo as much as possible. And stop letting him be all up her personal space. Julia is one unlikeable character.

Jarifa, I just have to repeat this, "NOW??? Julia realizes she doesn't want to stop interacting with Ringo????? How long since she said “I do”? Okay . . ." Annoying, isn't she? She's made her (very bad) choice and should at least TRY to keep her distance. Even after Teresa ased her to look elsewhere for her office so that she could stay away from Riong, she up and offers Oso to pay rent for he office space so that Rosa can be paid to help Teresa. AND THEN, she turns right around and tells Rinog that she'll be looking elsewhere for an office. The woman truly has some issues to resolve, but she'll never solve them with her indecisiveness.

JudyB, I do like how Gloria has Turco "trained," but I just can't believe that Turco is such a wuss with her and believes everything she says.

Diana, Eva isn't ready to take Max seriously or return his feelings. She told Julia that she hasn't gotten over Alejo...yet.

Diana and Rgv Chick, I'm so glad you decided to recap Ringo. I'm enjoying this TN a lot, even Manuel's silly storyline with the twins and Alejo's inexplicable stupidity over Brenda. Your recaps are absolutely fabulous. The double episodes were fun for me, but I'm glad you'll get a break from double duty now that they're going back to single episodes.
