Me Declaro Culpable #27, 3/25/20: Family drama: The gift that keeps on giving

No snark, just the facts.   Comcast had perfect TV reception for this show today, unlike the past two weeks and this morning.  Telenovela gods were shining down on my TV.  Yay!

NATALIA &  PAOLO STUFF

We open with Paolo on the phone, telling Natalia about how Katia showed up and told him she met some guy last night whose ex-girlfriend did a hit and run on some guy a few months ago.

ROBERTA  (WHO ELSE?) STUFF

Roberta, looking no worse for the wear after last night’s escapades, comes to the office for yet another confrontation with Mauro about her childhood, mother, etc.   It’s the same old, same old, claims she is done lying and covering up for Mauro and she wants to kill him!  So she does.  This woman is strong, but then she single-handedly  choked her BFF Luciana to death a few weeks ago.

Bertie throws Mauro onto the sofa and has at it. Franco enters and breaks it up.  Mauro says she is getting dangerous again and needs to be locked up in the manicomio.  By now Bertie has an audience of Julian, Alba, and Franco, so she takes this opportunity to let them know that Mauro is the one who lit the match to set her mother on fire….may he himself die!

Good ole Mauro conveniently goes into cardiac arrest.  Great timing, old boy. Bertie immediately starts crying “Don’t die, papito, I need you.”  Well, that is quite an about-face on her part.  Mood swings much, Bertie?

Alba steps in and does something to Mauro but it does not look like much.  However, Alba is deemed ‘hero of the day’ by Mau for saving her life.  We were spared CPR scenes, so we will just presume that's what it was.   She says it was her Red Cross training back when Javier was sick.  Okay.

CRAZYTOWN:   I SEE DEAD PEOPLE (Well, okay just one dead person, but still)

Gabriel and Ingrid  are walking home after Gabe got his blood work done that the doctor asked for. Ingrid sees Javier across the street.  While Gabe goes to get something to eat, they chat:
J:  My son is going to be with me soon.  He is sick and you won’t be able to save him
I: Go away.  You’re not taking him from me.
J: When the time comes and you can’t stand to see him suffering and on a ventilator, will you be cold-blooded enough to pull HIS plug?

NAT/KAT/PAO/ JUL

Katia & Paolo arrive at the bufete, where she is going to introduce him to the guy she met last night. Kat is telling Pao that this is the guy whose ex-girlfriend did a H&R on some poor guy who I think is YOU, and left him to die in the street.  Natalia conveniently walks by and hears this, so she sticks around.   Julian does not remember her, at all. Or so he says.  He certainly does not remember telling her about his ex-novio while he was obviously in a blackout.

Jul denies everything, twisting the story to say Katia approached him at his own table, blahblahblah.  If Julian was Pinocchio, his nose would be six feet long by now.  Then Julian asks Natalia if she believes his version of last night.  And of course she says she believes Julian.  #frustratedwithNatalia
Paolo thinks Julian made it all up in order to break up Nat & Paolo.  Um, okayyy.    Katia tries to convince Paolo she is NOT lying or making it all up.  Recapper does not care.  Next?

MAURO  IN THE HOSPITAL

Roberta  is there with him in his hospital room, UNSUPERVISED, while MAU is hooked up to machines and in a hospital bed, sporting the standard issue muy unfashionable hospital gown.  Why he doesn’t have someone in there to protect him is the question of the day.   Let’s remember this is the woman who killed skanky witness guy and her BFF Luciana in cold blood, tried to kill her own father today, and took a knife to Alba and cut her. Although her family does not know about crimes 1 and 2.    Weren’t  they were going to have her locked up, anyway?
Franco walks in and Mau asks Franco to take Bernie Home and MAKE SURE SHE TAKES HER MEDS; SHE HAS NOT TAKEN THEN FOR MANY DAYS.   Oh, duh.

Later at home, Bertie blames Franco for her mental health problems.  Conversation #73  We’ve all heard it, read it, and are over it. Bertie is not.  Roberta’s latest line of thought is to draw a parallel between Mauro and his mistresses and how it affected her mother 's mental health and Franco + Alba sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g affecting Roberta's mental health.

Vile slimy Julian visits Mauro at the hospital.  While chatting, Julian sees this opportunity to move his sorry self up the corporate ladder.  He suggests  Mauro name someone to be the head of the firm while he is taking time out to recuperate.  Mau says he will think about that, and Julian thinks it’s in the bag…for him.  Next,  Mauro calls Alba and thanks her for saving his life, assuring her she will be rewarded.   (Can we hope he will let Franco divorce his crazy daughter?)

MORE JAVIER and INGRID

Javi is not done with Ingrid today.  Nopis.  This man is on a mission.  He pops in on Ingrid and aks when Gabe’s bloodwork results will be in, and asks Ingrid how much time she thinks Gabe has (to live).  Ingrid tells him Gabe is young and strong, he does not have what Javi had, and Gabe. Is. Not. Going. To. Die.
Javi tells her that Gabe is young and he might hang on a little longer than he (Javier) did, but very soon Gabe will be with him.
Ingrid denies that because she is going to take very good care of Gabriel.  God will not allow Gabe won’t leave me.
Conversation gets ugly with Javier telling her she will never be a mother, God won’t ever allow her to be a mother; everything in her womb rots.   (Ew)

Next, Javier is in the living room, stroking a coffin that is surrounded by white floral funeral wreaths.  Ingrid walks in….
Jav:  I need my family.  Eternity is a cruel place to be when you’re alone.
Ing:  So, whose coffin is this?
Jav:  it is for the next person that will die after Gabe dies
Ing:  So, Alba?   (this almost made me laugh)
Jav shakes his head ‘no’.
Ing:  You want Alba dead, too, right? (she asks, hopefully.  gotta love this nut case)
Jav still shakes his head ‘no.
Well, this chat is interrupted by Gabe and Pedro, who have just come home from school.  The boys go back out in a couple of minutes, so Javier and Ingrid continue their convo.
Javier opens the coffin to show ….. Ingrid in there!  Oh noes!  Cara de impactada for Ingrid.  Looks like Alba got off scott free!  Ingrid  goes into a meltdown.  Gabe returns (alone)  and sees her, but she snaps out of it fairly quickly.

NATALIA

Over dinner at home, Natalia asks Franco what caused Mauro’s heart attack. He says, ‘Oh,  the usual stuff ’,  deflects, and change of tema.   (Nothing like ignoring facts and truth in a dysfunctional family.)

Nat and Pao go camping.  She gives him a stick and asks him to start a campfire.  We all  want to see how a guy in a wheelchair gathers wood and starts a fire.  We will have to wait and see if this is a plot device or plot filler.

EL BUFETE

Olga, in another of her odd outfits,  has news.  Mauro decided who will lead the firm while he is out on medical leave.   Franco seems to not care,  like Mauro doesn’t need a replacement.  Julian is licking his chops, seeing power in his near future.  But hang on, Patio, in walks . . . . .  Tizzie!  He is the new temporary head of the firm.  Whaaaaaaat?  (I can handle it, but this guy needs a better hairstyle.)

I don't know about y'all, but I'm in a tizzy.  That’s all for today.  Must see TV!

Doris, well-done.

Even if Mauro killed his wife Roberta is too dangerous to be running around loose. Manicomio, now! Both Franco and Mauro are right that Roberta is her own worst enemy for not following doctor's orders. No matter what she says she really does not want to get well.

Ingrid is almost as crazy as Roberta. Roberta knows she is ill but Ingrid clearly doesn't. Her image of Javier is a mirage and not the same man we saw dying in the hospital room.

Julian just deserved a ring in inferno that Dante hasn't discovered yet. It would not surprise me if he tried to kill Mauro within the next few episodes.

We hadn't been told that Tiziano is also a lawyer, but I don't mind this plot twist.

Doris, thank you for translating all the crazy.

Why would Mauro put Tizzy in charge of the office instead of Franco, his son in law?

I feel exhausted watching Rob ranting and raving in every single episode . Do you think that all that overreacting exhausts Danela ?

I get a kick out OF the way Ingrid holds her ciggy. She is kind OF quiet crazy , whereas Rob is really loud crazy.

♥️Susanlynn - Daniela is probably exhausted after filming, and I can warn you: Do not binge watch three episodes back to back. I was emotionally exhausted. Worn out. Drained. 😜

Ay Doris—Your FACTS are a hoot. Thank you for a most excellent recap. So glad you expounded on Ingrid and Javi’s conversation. He’s really not a very nice guy. I wonder what Alba saw in him. Or maybe he just hates his sister for what she did to him. I suspect he was always that nasty to her. Maybe that’s why she started to poison him. She got sick and tired to death of him so she made him sick and tired to death.

Ingrid is the stealth killer—she takes her time and watches the consequences. Bertie is no nonsense direct—do it and get it over with.

Much as I find lacking in Franco’s behavior, at least he had some hard truths for Bertie. I was amazed to see her behaving so normally the next day with Julian. Those must be some powerful meds.

Susanlynn—Julian did his best to discredit Franco to Mauro during their chat in the hospital and make him doubt Franco’s abilities and loyalties. Thus we get SNIPPED TIZZY at the helm. Can’t wait to see Bertie’s face tomorrow!

Doris, your “just the facts” recap was great fun. Loved the title and all your funny asides....

The “stuff” headings

The mystery of Roberta having no hangover whereas big, beefy Julián could barely function

I see dead people

if Julián were Pinocchio his nose would be six feet long by now

The mystery of Roberta being in Mauro’s room unsupervised

(Julian) sees this opportunity to move his sorry self up the corporate ladder

All in all, a weird episode. Franco dutifully tells Roberta to take her meds but doesn’t supervise

And the camping trip!. Don’t get me started. Only a gazillion things could go wrong. And will, I imagine.

Yes partner, Tiziano’s kewpie doll hair is creepy. No wonder he can’t get any traction with Bertie, looking like Baby Snooks.

Thanks as always. Fun read. Just what we need in this time of escalating bad news.

And very glad your Comcast came through for you. Just when you needed it most.

Doris, you had me LOL with "We all want to see how a guy in a wheelchair gathers wood to start a fire." I can't wait to watch this episode and see if Nat is wearing her heels at the campsite.

"Mood swings much, Bertie?" She does act her little heart out. Hopefully she knows how to separate from the part before heading home.

Anita... SNIPPED TIZZY!!! Hahahaha!

I bet Maura was wishing he'd sent Roberta back to the manicomio as he was getting choked. Them leaving her alone with him in his hospital room is just too much. These people are ALL enablers to her crazy batsh*t.

You have to wonder how much of what Roberta says about her childhood is true. How abusive, if at all, was Mauro? Did he start the fire?

Why isn't Ingrid worried about the bloodtests? What kind of poison could she be giving Gabe that wouldn't show up in the tests?

OT..has anyone heard from Andy ?

R la O - lately I've been wondering just how accurate Berta's accusations against Mauro are true, too. She seems sociopathic in much of her behavior. I began doubting her when she was boo-hooing over the loss of her BFF that she killed, then turned off the waterworks and got all bitchy when ATNW Julián showed up on their veranda.

And ditto on Ingrid re: Gabe's blood tests. She did not seem at all threatened by the testing. Hopefully there will be something interesting in their findings, but would the only hospital in Mexico randomly run a toxicology screen? Who knows? 🤷🏼‍♀️

If the only hospital in Mexico looked back in their records and saw that this was the kid who was being drugged by his aunt, you'd hope they'd run a toxicology screen.

Alba saving Mauro's life is setting it up nicely for him to find out she is his long lost daughter, if that ends up being the case.

You have to give Alba credit for telling Franco that "Alba and Franco right now is a mistake".

I don't believe for one second that Javier was like he is in Ingrid's hallucinations. Neither Alba nor Gabriel could love someone like that.

Ingrid accuses Alba of stealing Javier's love from her, as though there is a finite amount of it. That is beyond sick.

I remember something from the last episode when Tizzy said to Roberta that the last time they had a has seen e each other was when Tizzy eat the pants off Franco in court. So I guess Mauro just couldn't resist pulling in an arch-enemy of Franco's

"Blogger Urban Anthropologist said...
I don't believe for one second that Javier was like he is in Ingrid's hallucinations. Neither Alba nor Gabriel could love someone like that. "

I agree. Most likely he is a manifestation of Ingrid's own inner self-hatred.

That sounds like Mauro is trying to punish Franco for not keeping Roberta in check. Now how can he do that and work at the same time?

OT SUSANLYNN...Andy was never on a team so we didn't need his email. He did all the recaps on Mañana on his own. So alas, we have no way of getting in touch with him to see if he's alright.

OT again. ANITA, thanks for the heads up on AMORES VERDADEROS. It was a fun novela and it's equally fun to watch it again, particularly hunkalicious Big Ed. MADELAINE started out doing two recaps a week for that one, as well as recapping yet another nighttime novela. I do miss her salty humor. In the recap for last night's episode she said something hilarious about Soggy Paula not "being the only bun wrapped around Anibal's hot dog." Oh my. I'd forgotten that, but always remembered her "back in a tic" quips.
She was quite a character. And gone too soon as well.

Mads loved, and was so dedicated to, CarayCaray. Her funny voice is certainly missed.

I didn't watch AV the first time around, but watched the first episode last night. I may give it a go!

Franco would do better to take that kiss painting (AAAA) and start his own firm. With Alba bringing him coffee, and Paolo running his errands, what could go wrong?

Thanks a million, Doris -- that was crackerjack! And no one has yet mentioned my favorite line: "Katia tries to convince Paolo that she is NOT lying or making it all up. Recapper does not care."

That Roberta managed to nearly strangle her father, repent, and show up at the hospital room in tears all without disarranging her scarf. That gal is real pro. Olga Odd Outfits should take some notes.

I believe those little kitten-paw pokes Alba gave Mauro WERE supposed to be CPR -- you know, the telenovela kind. Not the real kind that breaks your ribs.

R la O, I'm checking off "LO NUESTRO FUE UN ERROR" on my personal bingo card. Close enough.

I was gobsmacked to see Snipped Tizzy (thanks, Anita!) walk in at the final bell. Sure didn't see that coming!

BTW, the other night when he was "entertaining" drunk Bertie they had an interesting snippet (whoops!) of conversation:

T: You are the only woman I have ever loved.

R: How many women do you say that to?

T: All of them.

R: [snort!]

T: I tell all of them that you are the only woman I have ever loved.

That was pretty hawt, I have to say.

Blue Lass -- yeah, that might have been hawt, but Tiz's Kewpie Doll hairstyle is not. ;-)

Great fun, folks.
Blue Lass--"That Roberta managed to nearly strangle her father, repent, and show up at the hospital room in tears all without disarranging her scarf. That gal is real pro. Olga Odd Outfits should take some notes." That gave me the best laugh of the day.

RLO--Loved the notion of Franco taking his KISS painting and starting his own firm with Alba's coffee and Paolo running errands.

JudyB--I watched AV, but haven't read the recap yet. Thanks for the heads up. I'm starting to save some of the best "word pictures" from it (for no other reason than filing away useless information--I saved her "She [Victoria] is clinging to him [José Angel] like a sweater with static cling..."

Hey! The sun is out and time to get some fresh air around the perimeter of my yard.

Hello, all.

Anita, i, too need to get out to walk the yard now and that the sun is coming out. I have been doing laundry and watching a Dr. Quinn marathon, but now some exercise. Just remembered our show is on at 2.00..not 3.00. I will have my late lunch while I watch the shenanigans.

OT

ANITA..."She [Victoria] is clinging to him [José Angel] like a sweater with static cling..." IS a great line. It too jumped out at me when I read the recap. It's just fun to re-visit how former recappers wrote as well as the juicy comments of the Patio at that time.

Like Family Drama, old CarayCaray recaps and blog lines "are the gift that keeps on giving". Very grateful to Kat and her husband for organizing everything so nicely, before she left to site to start her own.

P.S. In last night's epi, did Roberta actually make Julian taste her drink first when they were up on the roof? What was that all about?

Yes! Then he swilled it around and did that little smack smack smack with his lips.

Blue Lass - yes , she made him taste it first. Maybe she thought it might be poisoned?

Yes, I noticed Queenie having her !goal jester taste the tea...Then she wiped the rim of the teacup. Daniela is too much.

Yes, I find Julian's tongue is taking on a life of its own.

Thanks Doris good recap. And so darn
Funny.
