While You Were Sleeping - Part 1
“When something bad happens, you have three choices. You can let it define you, let it defeat you, or you can let it strengthen you.” – Unknown
A life altering health crisis can strike at any moment. All are insidious and debilitating, yet outcomes vastly differ. Some perish instantaneously. Others survive yet are incapacitated to a degree where they might wish death had taken them. Some rehabilitate to a certain degree, yet are a pale version of their former selves. Yet, some are able to resume their lives, unalterably changed, decidedly different, yet determined to survive and even to thrive. We will all cease to exist and I believe when death occurs is not our decision to make. But there is evidence that faith and prayer are instrumental. Determination to fight every step of the way despite all odds means everything. And finally, there is family. And friends. Those who put aside their lives, to rush to comfort, support and encourage. Rosa’s situation appears to be dire. But as we know her grit, determination and perseverance, we suspect there will be a rousing recovery. After all, few embody the strength of spirit and human kindness more than Rosa maravilloso.
We start with the aftermath of Rosa’s injuries. Everyone has gathered at the hospital – Pepe, Ringo, Manuel, Julia and Damasio as Guachin arrives asking for Rosie. He cries as Julia hugs him, explaining Rosa has not improved; what Oso saw was a reflex action. Guachin cries that “his” Rosie needs to be okay. Ringo also tries to comfort him. Guachin then prays by himself in the corner, Rosa has sacrificed everything...she is his only friend.
Guevera takes money from under his mattress – trying to see the denominations is challenging with his blurred vision. He murmurs about going blind.
Carrizo arrives with flowers and enters Rosa’s room, sweetly telling her the roses smell as good as she does. Oso then enters and asks what he is doing there after all, Rosa is in delicate condition he admonishes. After he tells Carrizo that only one person can be there, Carrizo leaves as Oso grabs the flowers, thrusting them in his hands as he leaves.
Ringo arrives home and gives Teresa an update on Rosa. He then asks about Gloria, so Teresa tells him she hasn’t heard anything...Gloria must think this bus a hotel. If Ringo doesn’t tell her to leave, she will! Ringo looks on reflectively and rather concerned.

While You Were Sleeping - Part 2
Gloria is still prisoner, bound to a chair. Turco leaves his phone on the counter and she shimmies over in the chair, using her bound hands to send a text to Ringo- a frantic call for help. Turco comes in and unties her from the chair. He puts her in bed with her hands still tied. He tries to kiss her as she recoils. He binds her mouth again as she cries. The fool orders pizza and drives off in a behemoth SUV as Ringo, who rushed out as soon as he got the text, gets out of his car. Ringo makes like spider man and scales the wall. Conveniently, the front door is open. He runs up the stairs and rescues Gloria. He’s crazy she cries as Ringo unties her and they rush out.
Eva and Julia discuss Rosa. Diego comes over with the signed divorce papers. He tells her that he wants to hear her say something. She tells him that their love ended, but he retorts that HER love ended Are you all right Eva asks comfortingly and asks if she will tell Ringo? Julia turns and stares stating she and Ringo have nothing to do with each other. Granting Eva an icy glare (usually reserved for Ringo) and walks away to Eva’s dismay.
Turco comes home and finding Gloria gone, frantically screams for her. To no avail.
Guachin visits Rosa crying as he tells her that everyone misses her...they miss her smile and all the joy that she brings. He again avers she is his only friend...and he begs her to open her eyes. Oso enters and Guachin tells him that it’s not fair!
Ringo wants Gloria to call the police. She refuses but when Ringo tells her Turco may try to abduct her again, she agrees to call her attorney. Santi comes out very concerned. Gloria reassures him and she says thanks to Ringo – everything is fine.
Carrizo puts his lovely daughter Celia to bed as Turco calls mewling he is alone. Carrizo reminds him that he is alone because he ran him off along with his daughter. Carrizo will not stand for that. When Turco cries that Gloria will never forgive him, Carrizo tells him he won’t forgive him either! After the call ends, Turco cries, but in truth, he isn’t totally alone - Jack Daniels is with him! Turco drowns his sorrows (somewhat) as he watches some guru who says that they help others find happiness by finding what is missing in their live through an inner search.
Rosa wakes up and calls out “Jefe”. After she asks why she is there, Oso tells her about the accident and Guachin runs out for the doctor.
After Gloria leaves, Ringo tells Teresa that Turco kidnapped Gloria. She reminds Ringo that she wants Gloria out of there, but Ringo points out that Gloria hasn’t found a place yet.
At the hospital, Rosa asks Guachin and Oso who they are. The doctor explains to Oso that sometimes after coming out of a coma, patients suffer post traumatic amnesia. Meanwhile, Guachin talks to Rosa about herself, telling her she is a wonderful boxer! Rosa mulls that over then remembers that Guachin is her friend and Oso is her boss. But as Guachin explains La Zorra, Rosa frowns, without recollection.

While You Were Sleeping - Part 3
Eva almost throws up in her mouth. She looks in her diary, wondering…We nod, knowingly.
Oso calls Ringo and tells him that Rosa came out of the coma as Teresa thanks God. However, she is suffering from bouts of amnesia. Sometimes she recognizes them but then she doesn’t. The doctor said it would take time for her to fully recuperate and will stay there for a few days. Oso then worries about Rafa since he will have his match with Alejo soon, so Ringo assures him that he will supervise Rafa.
Oso then calls Rafa to tell him that Rosa is out of the coma and the match with Alejo is on!
Guevera is training Alejo. Susana comes to tell him that he has an appointment with her doctor friend the next day. After they leave, Rafa arrives and tells Alejo that Rosa is out of her coma. As Alejo wonders who will train him since Oso will be with Rosa, Ringo approaches and responds “me!” Alejo punches the bag very hard and looks quite serious. I’m not sure he is very thrilled.
Ringo tells Rafa that Oso asked him to train and they leave.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t someone say previously that if Alejo was to fight Rafa, he would have to lose weight? (I think it might have been Susana). Looking at Alejo and Rafa side by side, Alejo appears to outweigh him by at least 30 pounds! Aren’t they supposed to be in the same weight class? Kirby??
Julia gets a call from Oso who gives him an update. Julia will go over as soon as she can.
Turco goes to see the leader of Jar Gutana and tells him that he saw him on TV and he need his help. The “spiritual leader” tells him that they will help him if he is willing to give up his materialistic life and join them on their spiritual journey. Turco agrees.
Ringo is training Rafa when Guachin offers to help. Rafa wonders why Guachin doesn’t go to Luchis. Guachin doesn’t want to leave until Rosa recovers completely...and Luchis will have to do without him...she went alone anyways.
Eva tells Max that she is “late” and worried. Max suggests that they go and get her a pregnancy test.
Susana goes up to Guevera. She wants him to see the doctor at his appointment the next day. After she assures him that she will keep his condition a secret from his friends, Guevara tells her that he is not going to the appointment. Fool.
The leader of the religious group tells Turco that in order to stop suffering, he needs to forget that he is Turco Nasif the boxer. He must follow the path of the poor and spirituality. Turco agrees because he wants his pain to end. The “leader” tells him that he will be referred to as Brother Ariel. Turco changes into the obligatory cult-like obligatory white robe, and is taken to a purifying bath.

While You Were Sleeping - Part 4
Carrizo goes looking for Turco and is told that he went to a spiritual retreat. Carrizo explains that he came to apologize to Turco, but since he isn’t there, he thinks that he and Celia should stay there.
Eva and Max sit together awaiting the pregnancy test results. Eva makes Max read the color coded results and joy – she is pregnant! Max is beside himself with happiness and Eva’s smile lights up the room.
Julia enters to see Rosa who hopes that Julia can get her out of the hospital...she wants to go see the match between Rafa and Alejo. After Julia tells her that she needs to stay there, she excuses herself since she has to go to the brewery. Once Julia leaves, it’s obvious Rosa doesn’t know who she is as that is the first question she utters.
Days later—
Isabel talks to an attorney who tells he that they have enough evidence to file charges, but it has to be Julia and Brenda who make the request. Isabel wants to work together with a criminal attorney, Pedro Tovares, because she has a strong suspicion that Diego was behind Ivan’s murder.
Oso calls Ringo who is at the arena getting Rafa ready for his match with Alejo. Ringo puts the call on speaker and Rafa tells him that he is going to make him proud. After Oso cries that he is very proud of him he reminds them to perform their ritual.
Guevara worries since Alejo is late. Meanwhile, Alejo and Julia are trying to reassure Brenda that she doesn’t look “gorda”. We all pause to sigh and roll our eyes. After Alejo and Brenda leave, Elsa tells Julia that Sandra is there.
At the arena, Ringo and Guachin coach a nervous Rafa. Ringo shares about how nervous he was in his first match.
Cool, aloof Julia selects a maroon blazer that makes her look like she works as a hotel concierge. A curious choice but I digress. Julia and Sandra are going together to the match. They comment on how both of them are rooting for Rafa.
Before they leave, Sandra can’t keep quiet any longer...Diego has threatened her because she knows that Ivan discovered that Diego was stealing from the company. Ivan ordered an audit but he never heard the results because he was killed. The audit confirms what Ivan suspected and she gave the information to Avendano who is conducting a full investigation. Before Avendano talks to Julia she wants to have all the evidence since she thinks that Diego is behind Ivan’s kidnapping and murder!!
And, as Rosa fights to regain her memory and as Rafa prepares for the fight of his life, we end.
Diana
Thanks to the wonderful Rgv Chick who again supplied essential dialog. And so wonderfully!

A big thumbs up to:
Rosa’s rather quick recovery from the coma and the amnesia. They might have lost me if they had strung out the amnesia.
Sandra finally telling Julia about Diego.
Very little Brenda.
A big thumbs down to:
how they destroyed theTurco character taking him from a nasty narcissist to a criminal and now a mere joke.
Thank you two. My, things are happening now.
Frantic text to Ringo from a kidnapped Gloria (This Is A Test)

2 Hmm you don't say..... Does this blazer make me look stupid?

No being a Bimbo makes you look stupid
Good morning patio!
Jarifa, thank you so much. Your comment on how the writers "...destroyed the Turco character taking him from a nasty narcissist to a criminal and now a mere joke" was absolutely spot on! Puzzling especially as it seems even Carrizo has turned over a new leaf.
And yes, I say laughingly, we mercifully were subject to only a quick whine from Brenda. Sigh.
Hi Kirby. First, I read your "Rosa Reindeer" lyrics yesterday - just great as is " Oh My Lord, let's call the Police, secure your evidence, change the locks.....etc.
PASS". :)

As Nihan is about to get into her car, Eda rushes and tells her there’s a package waiting for her. It’s a cardboard box with a pink ribbon. Nihan takes a look and recognizes that Kemal sent a gift (a red horse), but she only says “I know who sent it.” Vildan smiles. Eda is confused and says she doesn’t know who sent it, but Nihan says that she can live without knowing who it did it. She informs Eda that she’ll be traveling alone. Eda is confused again, and Nihan says “I like surprising you.” Eda looks disappointed. When she finally gets into the driver’s seat, she tells Vildan “From now on, stop fighting with Leyla. You know that the heart doesn’t always listen to what anyone can possibly say, so anything you say will go in through one ear and out the other.” Vildan rolls her eyes, and Nihan takes off. She stops before the gates, takes one look at the gift box and then at Denise, and says “My little one, your father sent us a gift.”
Seven years ago, Kemal and Nihan are walking to a toy shop. They stand outside the store, looking in through the glass. Kemal announces that he loved the days when Hussein would take him to buy toys. Nihan reaches up and touches the toys on display, realizing that they’re made of wood. Kemal says “Of course they’re made of wood, but you wouldn’t know that since you’re accustomed to expensive dolls that come mass produced from other countries. That’s why you don’t know anything about this.” Nihan looks up at him and asks him to stop chiding her, admitting that no one ever took her to a toy shop before. She adds “Our daughter, however, will have this experience because you will buy her these wonderful wooden toys.” Kemal smiles and announces that they will buy their daughter a toy today. Nihan calls him crazy, and he admits it, claiming that even though they don’t have their daughter yet, he loves her just as much as he loves Nihan already. Nihan says that she feels the same way, that their daughter will be very lucky. They hug.
In the present, Nihan tells Denise “Your father may not know you yet, but he started loving you many years ago.” After driving for a bit, she calls Kemal (who’s at Kozcouglu Holding). She asks him why he sent her those toys. Kemal asks why she didn’t come to the office today, and Nihan answers that she’s with Denise right now. Kemal says he wishes he could be with both of them right now. Nihan turns nostalgic and changes the conversation back to the toys: she says she’s more excited about them than Denise is, since she’s still too small to play with them. Kemal remembers that Nihan once told him it was too soon to buy those toys. He finds it sad that the daughter of his dreams ended up being someone else’s. He asks to see Denise. Nihan says that they can meet up at Leyla’s and he can watch Denise receive her gift. Kemal replies “Before it used to be just you that I looked forward to seeing, but now there’s also Denise.” Nihan says that he should hurry and take advantage that Emir is working. Kemal says that he will, but not because of Emir, but because he longs to see her and Denise. He hangs up, and Nihan happily tells Denise that they’re going to see Kemal soon. “He doesn’t even know yet that you’re his dream made into reality,” she says, as Denise drops her pacifier and mumbles.

Still at the office, Kemal makes a phone call to Zehir. Meanwhile, Zehir is out in the street drinking a coffee when he receives the call, and Kemal asks if he’s gone on vacation. Zehir says he’s very embarrassed about everything that’s happened, but Kemal says that he’s not one of those people that automatically fires someone because of one mistake. He tells Zehir to forget about the issue with Zera right now, then asks if he will be coming in to work and help. Zehir smiles and asks what they need to investigate. Kemal says that a large sum of money has been transferred from the company under the guise of a donation, and he wants to know who’s behind the anonymous business that received it. Zehir says he’s on it, but thanks Kemal before hanging up. Kemal thanks him back. In the street, Zehir breathes a sigh of relief, while in the office, Kemal screenshots the bank documents.
At Leyla’s house, Leyla plays with Denise as Nihan sits on the armrest of the couch and asks if she got into a fight with her sister. Leyla says no, that Vildan is only trying to protect her and perhaps she has a point anyway because nothing is known about Ayhan’s past. Nihan looks unamused and offers her help: she believes that Leyla should speak to Ayhan first. Leyla says that she doesn’t need to talk to him about anything- all she needs are answers that Ayhan possibly wouldn’t want to give her. Nihan says that would all depend on how much stuff she’s going to ask him. Leyla comments that her questions would go all the way back to his childhood. She starts getting concerned and asks Nihan if it’s ok if she leaves her and Denise alone for a bit while she goes to get answers. Nihan says it’s ok, Kemal will be coming anyway. Leyla hands over Denise and rolls her eyes, looking very unexcited about that. She leaves without saying a word.
Ayhan enters the lobby at Kozcouglu Holding and starts yelling for the Kozcouglus to come out. A security guard comes to tell him to quiet down, but Ayhan shoves him out of the way. Another guard comes, but Ayhan flashes the gun in his belt. Soon Galip and Emir come down, asking what the whole spectacle is about. Galip asks the guard to kick Ayhan out because he will not tolerate this behavior in his business. Ayhan threatens both of them. Galip says that he will get his lawyers involved, and Ayhan mocks him by asking if his lawyers will also be at his bedside at night. He turns his attention to Emir and asks if his lawyers will also be protecting he son who’s just as bad or worse than Galip. Emir looks cocky and says he doesn’t know what the point of his scandal is. Ayhan says that his car wasn’t just any car, his car was named Melahab and she’s from his past. He warns “If you try to take away my past, I’m going to take away your future.” Emir is unfazed. Ayhan gives them one final threat before exiting the premises: he will go after father and son if they continue to mess with him. He tells them to stop while they’re ahead. When he’s gone, Galip looks at Emir as if he’s slightly confused. Emir says “We haven’t even gotten to his past yet. Everything is in order.” They both walk back to the elevator.

Kemal knocks at the door and Nihan opens it with Denise in her arms. He smiles and Nihan starts bombarding him with questions about his relationship with Asu. Kemal asks her to forget about that topic for now, because it would create an unnecessary negative atmosphere for Denise. Nihan is dissatisfied, but hands him the baby so that she can go prepare her bottle. Kemal asks if Leyla is in the house, Nihan tells him that they are alone. He takes the baby to the living room and says “Ok princess, you’ll be telling me what you’ve been doing with your mom today.” Nihan stands at the kitchen doorway to tell him that they went for a trip today to buy a lot of gifts. Meanwhile, Kemal has Denise laying on the couch as he shows her the toys. He says “One day I went looking for you. It was very cold and it snowed a lot, and I was looking for you. Then several men were chasing me. I ran and ran until I got exhausted, but then I found you. You were my breath.” Nihan comes and says “You didn’t wait for me.” Kemal stays silent for a bit but answers “Because you came late.” Nihan says that she was referring to the toys because he opened the box without her. Kemal jokes that he and Denise ruined her moment. Nihan laughs and picks Denise up, asking him to hold her a certain way so that he can feed her. Nihan comments that he’s an expert, but Kemal remembers that he used to babysit Zeynep when she was a baby. Nihan tells him that those toys brought her back to seven years ago. Kemal says that he’s constantly remembering the past, and that someday he will take her and Denise far away from here: “Since the day you told me that you wanted to get revenge on that man, Denise has been in my dream too. And I won’t leave her with him.” Nihan says she would never leave Denise with Emir either. She changes the topic and asks Kemal what their official titles are, now that Asu is her sister in law. Kemal says “All I know is who you are, and nothing else matters.” Nihan smiles and asks if he’d like to help Denise fall asleep. He smiles back.
Asu walks into the Soydere patio, looking dishelved. It’s raining heavily when she knocks on the door. Banu opens and announces “Oh, Asu Kozcouglu has arrived!” Fehime is seen in the hallway, overhearing when Asu asks Banu not to make fun of her. Fehime turns livid and starts shouting “What shouldn’t she be doing?” Asu tries to enter the house but Fehime puts a stop to that “Stop! Not one more lie shall enter this house.” Asu can’t hold Fehime’s gaze, and Fehime tells Banu to please go to the kitchen. Banu gives her a knowing look before doing as told. Asu starts asking for a chance to talk, claiming that when her uncle told her the truth she tried forgetting about it. She swears that though Hakki gave her the thirst of revenge, her intention was never to hurt Kemal. Fehime counters that she should have told them all the truth to begin with. “My interior voice repeats to me the same thing. This doesn’t have to do with you having Emir’s blood- the problem is that you betrayed us all. While I’ve been criticizing everyone else’s morals, look at the surprise I got! I didn’t see the serpent that was in my own house. From now on, I am nothing of yours, Asu. I can’t. From now, Kemal is the only thing that links us.” She tries closing the door, but Asu tries holding the door open with her left hand when she says that she won’t be losing Kemal or the Soyderes. Fehime takes a look at Asu’s wedding band and says “Your words are impossible now. That ring means nothing to me. I have so much remorse over all the times I’ve protected you. I’m going to speak to Nihan, because I owe her an apology for all of the times I’ve made her feel bad. With time and God’s help, I’ll pay my debts. You should think about how to get Kemal to forgive you. From now on, I’ll be doing what he asks of me. You won’t be getting any of my help. Now get out of my house.” She slams the door as Asu tries not to cry.

Tufan is at the Zonguldak hospital when he gets a phone call from Emir. Tufan reports that Kemal’s friends came to search for a file that now doesn’t exist or got lost. Emir asks if that’s all, and Tufan says that whatever they found was faxed to Kemal. They hang up, and Emir realizes he hit a goldmine.
Nihan checks up on Kemal and Denise, who are both sound asleep. She watches them both, satisfied that father and daughter are finally together. She sits next to Denise and caresses her hand when Kemal awakens. She says she wishes they could exist somewhere together, alone, where their bad memories can fade away. Kemal tells her to trust him and not erase her love for him. He knows she’ll still be waiting for him when he comes back. Nihan says that she only wants to love [him]. Kemal sits up and says that though he had a very good time, he needs to go home now. Nihan asks if they will find the answer to the anonymous donation. Kemal assures her they will, but asks that she investigate on her own too. Nihan reaches for his left hand, looks at his wedding band and says “You know that this time I won’t leave you alone, right?” He grabs ahold of her both of her hands and says “I know that you won’t.” He exits the room and Nihan goes back to caressing Denise’s hair.
Leyla and a man (Merzat?) arrive at Mr. Olussi’s home. The man knocks on the door and an old man answers. Merzat tells him that Leyla would like to ask him a question about the past. Leyla asks him about the Kandarli family. Mr. Olussi places his right hand on his cheek, as if surprised.
Emir and a technician are at Kemal’s prior office, looking at the fax machine. The technician says he needs to back up the data first before pulling out the information that Emir is looking for. Emir lets him do his job, and soon the technician was able to print out everything that was faxed from the past week. Emir looks at the documents and finds Asu’s birth certificate, detailing Mujan and Galip Kozcouglu as her parents. Emir is satisfied to have proof of Kemal’s manipulation of Asu. He calls his sister and says that he will show up at her house soon to show her something. Asu hangs up and wipes the tears away.
Mr. Olussi is sitting in the patio with Leyla and Merzat. He tells them that while Ayhan has suffered a lot, he made other people suffer too. He says that Ayhan was first imprisoned for robbery in his first factory job: he robbed his boss’ car or he was found in front of the safe. Leyla asks who the boss was, but Mr. Olussi cannot remember the name until Leyla asks if it has do with the Asemcades. Mr. Olussi tells her that she’s right. He stole from the Asemcades.
Zeynep arrives home and Banu meets her in the foyer. When Zeynep asks for Fehime, Banu says that she’s been sleeping all day, then suggests that she help her with the dinner tonight. Zeynep thanks her for preparing the meal but says that she’s worked in vain. Banu goes back into the kitchen and Zeynep peeks into her mom’s room, calling out for her. Fehime is laying in bed. Hussein and Tariq knock at the front door, which Zeynep goes to open only after Banu asked her to. Tariq hangs his jacket and asks Zeynep why she looks so worried if her boyfriend is only coming over for a simple dinner. Kemal now knocks on the door and Zeynep looks even more dismayed. Hussein asks Zeynep why she chose this particular moment to present her boyfriend to everyone. She doesn’t answer, so Fehime asks Kemal how he’s doing. He says he’s ok, then turns the attention over to Tariq. The two brothers stare at each other before getting into a semi-fake hug. Kemal tells Tariq that he’ll find a way to get him to forgive him, but Tariq jokes “I forgive you, just by your expression right now.” Meanwhile, Zeynep looks defeated, then dismayed when Kemal says he would like to speak to her first. Fehime seems to understand what’s going on between those two.

Outside in the patio, Kemal asks his sister what she’s up to now. He wants her to go inside and tell them that everything is a lie, that she has nothing to do with Hakan. Zeynep tells him that Hakan won’t be coming anyway, so nothing will happen regardless. Kemal says ok, but that she needs to figure out what she’s going to be telling them anyway. Zeynep heads back inside.
Sunset is falling, and Ayhan is in his warehouse, wondering why Leyla isn’t picking up his calls.
At the Soydere’s, Kemal declares that Zeynep needs to tell everyone something. Zeynep stands before everyone in the livingroom, about to announce another lie when the doorbell suddenly rings. Hakan arrives with flowers, Hussein invites him in and Kemal glares at Zeynep.
At Asu’s apartment, Emir arrives and walks into the livingroom. He announces that she has placed herself very high on the list of women who have ruined themselves over Kemal. He asks her to take a look at herself. When he sits down next to her, Asu retorts that he gave away her identity to the media so that he would be able to see defeated. Emir says that they both should know each well by now, and that she really should believe him when he says that he wasn’t the one who gave away her secret. Asu says that there’s no other explanation for this. Emir tells her that Kemal knew who he was getting married with- Asu counters that Kemal would never do such a thing, especially not before a judge. Emir calls her stupid and says that Kemal has used her as means to defeat him: he presents her with her real birth certificate. Asu is shocked.

At the Soydere dinner, Hussein asks Hakan how his job is going. Hakan says that all is going well, and Kemal comments “It’s obvious who you work for, since you live so comfortably.” Zeynep holds her gaze low and to the side, and Hakan doesn’t know what to say. Tariq says that Hakan obviously doesn’t have a comfortable life, and Hakan retorts “If others see something bad in me because they themselves can’t accept their own lives, there’s nothing I can do about that.” Kemal says “If you don’t take advantage of someone, surely someone will take advantage of you.” The comment really hit at Hakan, who starts wiping his mouth. Zeynep rolls her eyes. Fehime dislikes this situation entirely and asks Hakan if he came today to show his intentions for Zeynep. Hakan affirms. Kemal asks how they will know if he’s being sincere about his feelings for Zeynep. Hussein butts in and comments that Zeynep has gone through difficult things so they’re just trying to make sure this isn’t moving too fast. Hakan says he understands. A little silence ensues and Banu says that she also believes that this relationship is moving too fast, and thinks that this is what bothers Kemal most. Hakan agrees that this happened very suddenly, but that technically he’s known Zeynep for a while now anyway, given that he helped her find a job at the kindergarten school. Kemal says “Oh, so you’ve helped her secure that job. And then you two found out that you’ve been made for the other?” Hussein tells Kemal that it sounds like he’s interrogating Hakan. Kemal holds back a smile. Hussein and Tariq joke with Hakan about the interrogation, but Kemal says that interrogation serves its purpose because that’s how the police can verify if someone contradicts the testimony. Hakan agrees, but tells Kemal that even if he interrogates him and Zeynep, he will always get the same responses. Zeynep doesn’t look convinced. Hakan declares that he came to the dinner to make his intentions about dating Zeynep clear, so he feels that there shouldn’t be any more questions on the matter. Kemal is unfazed. Fehime tells Hakan that so long as this moves fast and according to tradition, the better this will work out for everyone. Hakan pauses but says of course, and Hussein tells Fehime that he doesn’t want Hakan to think that the family is forcing a marriage on him. Fehime says that if this is necessary, it will have to be. Hussein makes a warning face to her, and Hakan says “It will be as necessary, ma’am.”
Leyla is home, looking out her living room window. She remembers the first time she got into his car and they formally introduced themselves to each other. He asked her for her last name, and she remembers his aloof reaction upon finding out that her last name was Asemcade. Leyla then remembers him telling her on another occasion that it wasn’t her fault for having been born an Asemcade. Just then, Leyla gets a text message from Ayhan: “I’m very worried, Cleopatra. I feel like a boy who’s messages are getting ignored.” Leyla sits down on her couch, leaving her phone on the table.
At the warehouse, Ayhan is confused about Leyla’s silence. He puts on his jacket and heads out in the rain, to drive his new car.
Such a fun recap starting with the title, one of my favorite romcoms with Sandra Bullock. And also cherish your quote. I've read a number of books on resiliency and am very happy that psychologists are now studying what makes people thrive, rather than what makes people neurotic. Favorite quips from your prologue are:
"determined to survive and even to thrive"
"I believe when death occurs is not our decision to make" (Elizabeth Kübler-Ross said something similar "That is a decision that only the Universe and God can make.")
And what a sweet tribute to Rosa in your prologue. On the other hand, I was really annoyed at selfish, jealous Oso removing the flowers. In that barren hospital room, not a single bouquet, once he threw out Carrizo's kind gift. How petty!
Other favorite quotes:
Ringo makes like Spider Man and scales the wall
[Turco] isn't totally alone--Jack Daniels is with him. (Ah, Jack Daniels and "branch water". Once upon a time my favorite drink. Now booze just makes me sleepy.
On the weight class question, Good Heavens yes! Alejo is much heavier and bulkier than wee Rafa. I do enjoy watching the very muscular Alejo pound the bejesus out of that weight bag, but don't want to see the same punishment on our spindly Oso offspring.
Ah, and your final thrust [estocada] comparing Julia's boring blazer to a hotel concierge uniform. Yes, where are those flirty off the shoulder dresses she used to don? Oh well, she has disappointed us in so many ways, a mere fashion faux pas is the least of it.
Thanks Fab Recapper. You always pour your heart and soul into these renditions and often find more depth and meaning than is actually there. For which I'm all admiration.

Asu paces around her living room, with Emir asking her how long it will take for her to understand that she got played. Asu places the birth certificate down on the table and says that she refuses to believe that Kemal is that kind of conniving person. She says that he wouldn’t discover her origins only to marry her afterwards for it. Emir says “Little sister, you played with Kemal, so when he found out that you are a Kozcouglu he began investigating everything about you. Obviously he discovered that you recently sold him over to me, and when I sent him into bankruptcy he used you to get out of it.” Asu takes a seat and Emir tells her “Kemal was also the one who sold you out to the media: face it, he sold you out because he doesn’t even want to touch you, he doesn’t want to live with you under the same roof- he wants the stocks. And now that he has them, all you can do is return the stocks back to me so that he can’t access them under the guise of being your husband. Do you understand? You are going to return to me the shares that my father gave you.” Asu refuses to look up at him when she says that she can’t. Emir glares because he’s losing his patience with her.

Hello,
Leyla's glare at Nihan when she admitted Kemal was coming over- I would be slightly miffed too. But they like to put themselves at risk it seems. It's surprising that Emir doesn't spy on her or her cellphone. Or on Leyla for that matter.
I wonder what Ayhan did to the family.
I knew Hakan would show up. How would he feel when he discovers Zeynep is a killer?

"She reminds Ringo that she wants Gloria out of there, but Ringo points out that Gloria hasn’t found a place yet."
Yes she did Dummy, but you stuck your dummy nose in it. Well, maybe she didn't find it outright, but Providence was sorting things out for her.
Wait, I have not been keeping up, but is Raf, the slim high school kid going to fight the NFL lineman Alejo? Pleeeease. At least they will have gloves on so Alejo can't just reach over and pinch off his HEAD! Gaaa.
Judy, thank you! I can't tell you how many times I've watched While You Were Sleeping. It never gets old.
"I do enjoy watching the very muscular Alejo pound the bejesus out of that weight bag, but don't want to see the same punishment on our spindly Oso offspring" was perfect! This match is not one made in heaven!
And Carizzo touched me last night. I like that he spoke to Rosa sweetly but without pity. He knows she will come back roaring.
Your powers of observation are excellent. I didn't realize how threadbare Rosa's room was until you pointed it out. Oso should have kept the flowers.
Looks like the fight will be very interesting. I hope Rafa doesn't end up pummeled!
Diana
"is Raf, the slim high school kid going to fight the NFL lineman Alejo?" Exactly Kirby - which is why I asked you the question about the weight difference.
Glad to know it isn't just me and this is a very odd pairing!
Diana
There are so many different weight classes in boxing, primarily to avoid just what we are seeing, a severe mismatch. Though I do not know all the weights or their names, I looked it up a little while ago, and Turco and Ringo look to be 'Middle weight', the upper cutoff is 160 pounds.
Under that is Welter weight approx 140 to 150 pounds, probably Rafa.
Alejo, unless he is deceptively short, would be either light heavyweight 168 to 175, or Heavyweight over 200. I suppose if you are between 175 and 200 you need to either gain or lose some weight.
It is hard to guess actor's weights, but it does not take many pounds to jump from one weight class to another.
Producers and camera operators are masters of hiding people's true height and size, but on the surface Alejo looks massive compared to Rafa.
Thanks Kirby! I completely agree that Alejo is at least at the 170 plus mark.
And it is difficult to judge but I think Alejo's bulging muscles must weigh quite a bit.
"Massive compared to Rafa" is right. Appreciate your thoughts.
Diana
La Zorra, if you're reading this, you..um... know both of them, right?
So are they about the same weight?
:-)
Susana has been driving me cray cray because she looks so familiar. I know I have seen her in several TNs. It finally clicked, she was in Ramoon with Jose Ron as Emilia, and before that and Eddy's (I think) Mom Isadora in Hasta el Fin del Mundo. She has a very recognizable face.
Diana, gracias. Catching up just before tonight's airing.
Yep, I hope Ringo has trained Rafa how to duck. If Alejo' fist connects with Rafa's face, the cutie is going down. But Rafa has speed on his side. If he can just go the distance, like Rocky I.
Yay, Gauchin had his priorities straight. Luchis who?
A few minutes to show time Niecie. You've read my mind. I've got a few quotes ready from Rocky (including one you alluded to) and of course, the one and only Muhammad Ali.
I share your concern about Rafa. Yikes.
Diana
AnonFri loving the recap, especially
Since I cant see it. For a while. Just look at momma fehima snatching off the

And why is there a rush to The alter for marriage? Do they have a age limit

I wish I could have seen kemal with denise, both of them light up when they see each other. I wish they'd let great auntie Leyla in on the secret so
She won't be throwing woes on the fun

So the love of her life robbed her parents way back when. I thinks theres

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. His hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see. Now you see me, now you don’t. George thinks he will but I know he won’t” Muhammad Ali
Alejo and Rafa are worthy opponents. But scales and mindset indicate they are far from equal.
Alejo is a fierce fighter,fueled by desire and anger. He seeks escape and vindication. To erase being born into a life he did not choose. To be released from the shackles of a day job. To cage fighting where his glaring rage vanquished many. To be in a relationship with a partner who cannot be tamed. Being kidnapped and beaten would have destroyed a lesser man. Yet, Alejo showed no fear, keeping his wits about him, taking matters into his own hands to escape. Alejo does have heart, evidenced by his affection for Manuel and his “brother” Ringo. But his thirst for victory is insatiable and deemed as his right.
Rafa is clearly a gifted fighter, yet lacks experience. He is hardly a marquis name, yet heralded by his friends and family. A good man, driven by the desire to succeed and make his father proud. Yet, there appears to be no raging fire, no all-consuming passion to prevail.
This may not be a clash of the titans, nor likely David versus Goliath. But the outcome seems to be preordained as the unsettling image of a lamb being led to the slaughter may be inevitable. And so we begin.
Julia and Sandra reprise their conversation. Julia’s face reflects her fury at Diego’s machinations. She is in disbelief and wonders who she actually married. Ringo told her so many times that Diego wasn’t who she thought and yet, she never listened. She curses Diego and wants to kill him, but Sandra warns her not to do anything until she talks to Avendaño...she might alert Diego. Julia threatens that if she finds out that Diego had anything to do with her father’s murder, she will make sure he rots in jail to his last day. I hope she keeps that promise.
Guachin calls Luchis as Hercules nuzzles her neck and she responds with kisses. Right in the gym dressing room! Without skipping a beat, she tells Guachin she will watch the fight at the Club and then hangs up. Pepe walks in and is impactada. He reminds her she just got married but she retorts it is HER problem. Pepe rushes out telling Damasio what he saw. Damasio tells Pepe to keep his mouth shut as situations between married couples are delicate.

Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up – Rocky Balboa Part 2
Teresa is beside herself because Gloria took Santi to watch the fight...she is only promoting his interest in boxing. Manuel points out that Santi will always be interested since he has boxing in his blood. After he comments that boxing is a good sport, he adds that he will encourage his grandson to be a boxer. Teresa hopes the baby will be a girl! Is anyone else a bit surprised that Manuel is cheering for Rafa rather than Alejo? I digress… Eva tells Max he is the love of her life and a sweet kiss ensues.
Alejo warms his hands unnecessarily as he appears more than primed. Brenda encourages Alejo to go out and finish off Rafa as she peppers him with loud, annoying kisses. Meanwhile Guevara is asking Susana to be her eyes and tell him how Alejo is doing during the fight. Susana agrees but only after she makes Guevara agree to get his surgery.
Oso and Rosa start to watch the fight from her hospital room. Who is Rafa she asks? My son Oso replies. Rosa still looks puzzled as they converse a bit. She encourages him to go to the fight which he does after kissing her forehead.
Rafa is praying and then he, Ringo and Guachin give a rousing Delta boxing club cheer. Better pray harder Rafa I silently urge. Lighted candles add to the mood. The chant intensifies getting louder. I hope all this translates to fists of fury.
Alejo spars and gears up. Next, the press discus the fighters and also mention that Ringo who trained at the same club, will be going for the world championship and fight “El Ciclón”.
The announcer (with babes in red outfit hoisting Garay signs), introduces Rafa. The crowd cheers. Rafa is garbed in white. Poor innocent.
Next, Alejo arrives, strutting in like he owns the joint, full of confidence and arrogance. I’m afraid before the fight even begins. But I’m recapping so I must watch. Alejo waves at Brenda, so Guevara tells him to focus. Alejo brags that Rafa won’t make it beyond the third round; he is going bro knock him out! Guevara warns him that he should respect his opponent and forget what he learned when he was street fighting.
Brenda is rooting for Alejo and thinks Santi should root for him too. Santi refuses since his father is Rafa’s trainer.
Rafa gets a pep talk and a massage from Ringo. Guevera gives his client the same while Brenda adds her unwanted encouragement to rather overt contempt from Gloria and puzzled stares from Santi.
Diana
Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up – Rocky Balboa Part 3
The bell is rung. Rafa manages to avoid any crippling punches initially and it appears that Rafa is swatting at flies. Ack. Then Alejo starts pummeling Rafa who finally manages to get away. Guevera tells him to calm down, it’s only the first round! The press notices Alejo’s prowess. So do we. After the first round is over, Ringo advises Rafa on what to do.
At the club, a quiet crowd has gathered to watch the beating…err, the fight. Ringo applies salve and fluids, but of course Rafa needs much more than that. Julia and Sandra arrive ringside where Brenda huffs that she is surrounded by undesirables. Eye rolls, please! Julia gives a warm hello to Santi, telling him she is there for Rafa and gives Ringo a smile that actually reaches her eyes. He notices and looks a bit surprised and nods.
Carrizo arrives at the hospital. Rosa doesn’t remember him. When she wonders if they are friends, Carrizo tells her that they are much more than friends and starts spinning a yarn about the two of them. After he mentions that Celia misses her but couldn’t come because children are not allowed, Rosa jumps to the conclusion that Celia is their daughter...and Carrizo assures that she is right. Rosa thinks that she should be with her daughter so Carrizo quickly gets her clothes. In the blink of an eye he has convinced Rosa into leaving! She starts to undo her IV.
Alejo, looking extremely perturbed, worries that Ringo is telling Rafa about all his weakness; so Guevara reminds him to concentrate on Rafa. When Alejo again brags about how Rafa is no match for him, Guevara insists that he not underestimate Rafa. The round starts and Alejo is obviously the aggressor. The commentators note how Alejo is dominating the fight. Rafa is showing good resistance though and isn’t giving up.
The fight starts again and Susana is giving Guevera a blow by blow. Rafa gets a few good hits in but Alejo barely flinches. Rafa’s pretty face is turning red.
Punches continue to fly as Rafa is pinned against the ropes. He frees himself as Ringo and Guachin yell encouragement. But Alejo’s assault are merciless. The bell rings and Rafa, cuts bleeding, is spared for the moment. Susana is concerned about her son and Julia tries to reassure her. I wouldn’t want my kid in the ring right now. Finally, Rafa lands a great punch and Alejo bears the brunt. By the way, Alejo looks pretty beat up as well. The rounds continue and Rafa punches but hits air. Alejo’s punches are better aimed and meet their mark. Sandra looks away. Ringo remains calm as Rafa’s face is being permanently marked. When Julia cheers for Rafa, Gloria turns on her and wonders if she is now after Rafa. They exchange insults until Santi yells at them to stop. After the round, Ringo asks Rafa if he can continue and Rafa nods. Oso approaches and tells him that he has had enough but Rafa wants to finish. Oso assures him that there will be other fights, but Rafa pleads with him telling him that he NEEDS to finish! Oso says that if things go too far, he will throw in the towel!
The cafeteria crowd is quiet as Luchis comes in, sitting to raised eyebrows from Damasio and Pepe. Pepe comments that now that Oso is there, Rafa is sure to do better.
Guevera is yelling to Alejo and Oso to Rafa. Rafa is hanging in and I admire his courage. Sandra has had enough thinking Rafa is going to get killed, and runs up to the ring.
Carrizo has taken Rosa to Turco’s putting a picture of Turco face down. Rosa loves the house. Can’t blame her. She thinks that they must have a lot of money. Oh dear.
Diana
Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up – Rocky Balboa Part 4
Sandra pleads with Oso to do something. At this point Alejo is literally holding onto Rafa hitting him like a punching bag. Then the tide turns and Rafa becomes the aggressor, pummeling his opponent mercilessly. Then, a huge blow as Alejo falls. He is getting the standing count as Guevera urges him to get up (which he does). . Oso is thrilled as is Sandra. Brenda cries and frets that Rafa can’t win because Alejo was better! The home crowd at the club cheer wildly!
Oso is very proud of Rafa as the commentators give their opinions about the match which turned out to be quite exciting. The judge’s decision is announced...Alejo wins.
Rafa congratulates Alejo who notes that Rafa didn’t win even though he knocked him down. Alejo is ungracious in his victory speech. When asked what is next, Alejo imperiously announces that that this fight was just an appetizer; he wants to fight against Ringo for the national title. Guevera looks rather disgusted.
The crowd is proud of Rafa. Eva tells Max he is the love of her life.
Brenda greets the victor and he gets the spoils. Literally. 😊
In the dressing room, Guevara chastises Alejo, telling him that he may have won, but it wasn’t what he hoped for. Alejo fought with anger and resentment and that is not what boxing is about. When Oso asked him to be his trainer, he thought Alejo would be one to love boxing and wart to be a professional, but he has a long way to go. After Alejo points out that he won, Guevara retorts “That is what you think.” Alejo prefers not to heed his words.
Oso tells Rafa how very proud he is of him and smiles and cries. Oso tells Rafa that every time he got hit, Oso felt that he was being hit. But seeing how he was fighting like a true man, he now understands he gave him all the tools he needs. A son should be allowed to be who he is and not be held back, but encouraged and pushed forward. Oso then tells Rafa that he is the best gift he has ever gotten. Rafa thanks him for letting him fight though he knew he couldn’t win...he just wanted to show Oso that he could do it. Sandra hugs her son and tells Rafa how proud she is of him...though she had to put up with seeing him get pounded.
Ringo sees Julia who tells him that she is there with Sandra. After a cold reception from Ringo, she tells him that Sandra told her about her father finding out that Diego was stealing from him and that he is suspected of murdering Ivan. Ringo reminds her that he tried to tell her several times...but she only believed it after she heard it from someone else. After Julia is left alone, Gloria stays behind and chides her for still being after Ringo. When Gloria tells her that she and Ringo are back together, Julia knows otherwise but Gloria assures her that Ringo just wants to spare her feelings. Gloria adds that she won’t allow her to mess with what’s hers...and Julia has no idea what she is capable of! Viewerville silently reminds Gloria that we (and Julia) certainly do know what she is capable of – including kidnapping!
And with that not so thinly veiled threat, we end…
Diana
Thank you Rgv Chick for contributing your marvelous dialog. Again, I couldn't do it without you.
I found some other wonderful Ali quotes including "I’m so mean, I make medicine sick" and "I should be a postage stamp. That’s the only way I’ll ever get licked". I wish I could have used them all!
Sleep well all.
Diana
Thank You Diana. What a beating.
I kept remembering the savage we saw when Mr. Brenda was doing the cage fights. In those fights Mr. Brenda looked like a wild hungry grizzly bear. A pissed off one at that. I feared for Rafa's LIFE. But through the majic of TNs he did allright.
Oh Noes, Moose has gone from 'Moose' to Moose Turd. WHAT? Is he interested in Rosa? I suppose, as he brought her some flowers. I was hopeoing he just needed someone to give his little sweetie pie daughter a bath and a PBJ sandwich, but …............
And I stand by my proclamation that the one and ONLY reason RinGoofy went and scaled a wall and brought Gloria 'HOME' was a hundred too many blows to the cranium. Boy just aint right anymore.
If he could have seen the spitefull little bitch who WE saw chatting with Foolia, we would see him going back UP that wall carrying a bitch-sized bag over his shoulder.
"Mr. Brenda looked like a wild hungry grizzly bear. A pissed off one at that". Kirby, that brought a huge grin to my face. So, so true! I was worried too, but kept thinking they wouldn't kill off Oso's kid, would they? Whew!
I was sorry to see Carrizo fall into the pit of despair. Not excusing it, so many people have had horrible lives and yet not only survived, but thrived. He and Turco certainly shared a strange sense of thinking they can kidnap, lie, etc. and that somehow people would do their bidding! I hope he comes to his senses simply because of his daughter.
And some never learn their lesson. Case in point: Gloria. Blech. I have to say when she and Julia were going at it, I kept thinking is there a door number 3? I keep hoping someone better is waiting in the wings. :)
Diana
Thank you, Diana, for another outstanding recap as well as your Rocky references and the quote from Mohammed Ali. I loved the Rocky movies and so enjoyed the days of Muhammad Ali.
What a fun way to start the day watching this episode.
Some thoughts:
Looks like Luchis never missed . . . a man . . . a step in spite of being married.
Sorry, no pity for Carrizo taking advantage of a still recovering Rosa. What a jack . . . !
Yay! For Julia FINALLY letting Gloria have it.
Nice that Rafael had the pleasure of knocking Alejo down.
Loved Guevara reminding Alejo of the philosophy of boxing.
Julia was warned. SHE needs to do something like tell the police.
Kirby, you have provided the best laugh of the day “Boy just ain’t right anymore.” !!!!!
Thank you so much Jarifa! Permit me to reminisce a bit. I will never forget sitting in the theater with my mother watching the huge ROCKY emblazoned across the screen! What an endearing, enduring character. I had to use one of his quotes but had to include Mr. Ali because after all he is the greatest! :)
"Looks like Luchis never missed . . . a man . . . a step in spite of being married". Loved it! And oh, so true.
Looks like Alejo has a steep mounting to get off his high horse. As you pointed out, Rafa did knock him down so the arrogance falls a bit flat.
Yup, Kirby is right. Ringo is another one who just doesn't learn.
Diana
Kirby: Good Morning from the Alamo City. Let me guess: more Incompetent, Irrelevant & Immaterial from Ringo, who can't get anything right ?
Diana: How's the damsel in distress doing ?
Yessiree Steve. You could have the smarts of a pet rock and feel superior to these misfits.
Except for the crazy ones, they are actually pretty smart here.
Wow DIANA, I was on the edge of my seat watching the fight and you conveyed the drama perfectly. And oh how I love this quote:
EVERY CHAMPION WAS ONCE A CONTENDER WHO REFUSED TO GIVE UP.
That's one I'd like to see up on walls and roadside billboards everywhere. The power to persist, in spite of being knocked down and beaten down again and again is so vital. And makes all the difference in love and life.
Enjoyed Ali's sassy saying also. What an intriguing and memorable character he was.
This was so insightful:
Rafa is garbed in white. Poor innocent.
Yes, I writhed in anguish watching the fight, Rafa was clearly so outmatched physically. In fact I have seen few telenovela actors as muscular as the fellow playing Alejo. He is amazing. I kept wondering, while watching him, if, in real life, he is physically abusive with his partners, whoever they are. He just looks scarily macho and we know where that can lead. Still, I also have to admit I love the fury with which he fights. It might be against the pious rules of boxing, but let's be serious, this is a sport that requires not just technique but disciplined fury. And the fury he has is notable.
[Julia] gives Ringo a smile that actually reaches her eyes.
Yeah, and so what. Our maudlin heroine actually does not deserve our Champion galán, but clearly they are fated to end up together. She'd better do some serious groveling to get him back though. Quite a disappointing heroine, but for that we have to blame the writers.
Terrific recap of a very very scary boxing match indeed. Thanks querida Diana. And thanks for putting so much thought and research into your recaps. Every one is a gift.
You know, it is kinda interesting what they are showing us with Alejo, Rafa, Ringo and the others. Though this is not really a boxing show, as it is just another studio prop, they have stumbled onto some interesting clues in the process.
There is Rafa, and most of the other fellows and gals who like boxing because they like the sport.
Then there is Alejo who likes boxing because he likes to FIGHT. Just like Zorra who does not like boxing Per se, as much as she likes the opportunity to mess up someone's face.
Judy, thank you for your always supportive, kind words.
"...this is a sport that requires not just technique but disciplined fury. And the fury he has is notable" was insightful and oh, so very true.
I also loved "Our maudlin heroine actually does not deserve our Champion galán, but clearly they are fated to end up together. She'd better do some serious groveling to get him back though". We will have to accept this "happy ending" although I much prefer rooting for the steadfast, madly devoted and in love couples. Sigh.
Kirby, yes, Alejo loves to pummel...Speaking of Zorra, have we seen the last of her? I hope so. Although Alejo may become available if unbearable Brenda were to step off the cliff which surely can be but mere steps away. :)

Emir is upset when he learns from Asu that she's already transferred the stock to Kemal.
Back at home, Nihan is playing around, videoing Eda holding Deniz in the entry to Mujan's bedroom. In the background, Mujan's finger moves.
At the Soydere's dinner to celebrate Hakan's and Zeynep's engagement, Banu asks when's the wedding? "As soon as possible," says Fehime. Hakan wants to discuss it later. Kemal doesn't approve of the relationship, but Hakan says it's got nothing to do with the problems between them. Glaring, Kemal says he doesn't believe in Hakan's good intentions, and adds "those two know what I mean." Tarik wants to know. Hakan gets up to leave, but Fehime orders him to sit down! Fehime plans that they'll set a wedding date at Hakan's next visit.
Nihan shows the video of Eda and Deniz to Vildan. Vildan notices Mujan's finger moving.
Back to Asu and Emir. Emir wants to know how Asu could be so stupid as to give the stock to Kemal. Asu has a plan: they need to work together to bring down Kemal. "Let's form an alliance. He used me, there's nothing for me to do but join together with his enemy." Emir approves: "that's my sister."
Alien phone call comes in. Nihan is letting Emir know that Mujan moved. He's on his way. Emir tells Asu: "while we were becoming true brother and sister, our mother moved." Asu wants to come too, but Emir suggest she wait for his call. After he leaves, Asu sinks down, emotional, and gives thanks to God.
Hakan and Kemal are outside the family dinner. Hakan says he sent Kemal the list of employees Kemal wanted. Kemal announces he won't let "Emir's spy" into the family. Hakan esplains that Zeynep asked him for help because she was in a difficult situation with the family, adding that Kemal should help Nep, who's alone. Husseyin has comes out and overheard....why does Nep need Hakan's help?
Husseyin goes back in to confront Zeynep: why? speak! why were you shamed in front of the family? Nep mutters some lame excuse about Hakan's being late for the dinner. Fehime erupts: "I saw them kissing! Emir and Zeynep are in a relationship!" Nep drops a tray of glasses. Husseyin doesn't believe it: Fehime must be wrong. Fehime insists she's not wrong, and Kemal knows what she saw, right?
Nep is sobbing. Tarik urges her to say something. Nep bursts out: I love him! I love him! I hate myself but I love him! I can't help it! I can't control myself. Everybody get it? Enough, enough!
Husseyin calls Nep shamless. "You're worth nothing...get out! You're not my daughter!" He shoves her outside into the pouring rain as Kemal and Tarik try to retrain him. Husseyin tells his sons he's in charge now, and he won't hear any objections from them. "If you help her, you can forget about me. Let God punish her."
Clara
Unshed tears shining in his eyes, Emir watches the video of Mujan's finger moving. Emir takes his mother's hand. Move your hand, do it again, let me see, do it. Nihan suggests it might have been just a reflex. Emir asks: are you telling me not to hope? No, Nihan says, but it's a long process. Emir is convinced: "my mother is returning to life. Deniz motivates her. Deniz's happiness brings life into this house. It's not a coincidence...my mother heard Deniz's voice. Maybe Deniz's voice reminds her of Asu as a child."
Emir asks Nihan to get his phone so he can call the doctors. It's in his coat. In another room, Nihan gets out Emir's phone, and takes the opportunity [or was this Emir's plan?] to scroll thru it and take some screenshots [couldn't see what these were, but Nihan looks impactada]. Emir enters the room for his phone, saying that he feels emotional and is glad that Nihan is there with him.
Nihan sends her screenshots to Kemal, who seems to be comparing them to the financial records. Over the phone, Kemal tells Nihan there was a deposit made one day after Ozan's death, and they make a plan to visit the hospital tomorrow. Wait for my call.
Kemal calls Hakan, who wants to know if Zeynep is okay. Kemal coldly says Zeybnep is not his problem. "You're gonna tell me where I can find Cumhur Ehiller."
The next day, Nihan wakes up to find Deniz's bed is empty. She frantically searches around and finds her. Deniz is wedged next to comatose Mujan, with Emir on the floow, his arm flung over them on the bed. Emir wakes up when Nihan enters. Why are you taking my daughter? Nihan retorts: you can't use Deniz this way! Emir explains that he brought her to see his mother and they fell asleep. He wasn't forcing anything.
Nihan takes Deniz away and speaks softly to her: Maybe it's time your father knew of your existence, my love. Or, maybe it's already too late.
Asu arrives at Kemal's. She's there to tell him everything. "Emir threatened to kill me, and to kill you too." Asu wonders who found out? Kemal coldly tells her he doesn't know. "Investigate it if you want to know." Asu throws herself on his mercy: she's alone, and she'll die without him. Kemal assures her: "you're not alone. If I stay in this marriage, it's to protect you, and it's only temporary. There is no hope, tho, of a real relationship." Asu agrees, "as you wish."
Clara
Emir leaves the house, and Nihan texts Kemal to tell him so. Kemal is still with Asu. Kemal texts Nihan that he'll see her at the address, and tells Asu he needs to get out for some fresh air.
Emir picks up a different car from Tufan.
Nihan drives away, and Emir follows.
Kemal drives away, and Asu texts Emir that Kemal left.
While both are driving, Kemal and Nihan talk on the phone. Nihan wonders how she lived all this time without him, and muses, maybe it's destiny. Kemal is focused on the task: we'll find out if Emir is involved in Ozan's death when we learn what this guy did to get Emir's money?
Outside Leyla's house, Ayhan and his new car wait. Looking disgusted, Leyla sees him from her window and shuts the curtains. When Leyla comes out, Ayhan asks: What did I do? I know your sister thinks I'm not worthy of you. Tell me. Leyla answers: you know you lied to me. When Ayhan protests, Leyla says "you hid the truth. You knew who my father was. Tell me who you are?" Ayhan looks upset.
From a hospital, Zehir calls Kemal about Raci Esindere, the hospital director, who received money from Emir on October 11. Maybe Emir used this man for another trick? Kemal wants Zehir to send him Raci's photo. It's conveniently posted on the wall in the hospital, so Zehir sends it right to Kemal.
Kemal is now striding down a residential street. Nihan follows, and Emir spies. Kemal wanted to get there first to check out if it was safe before Nihan arrived. "You are a magnet for problems," Kemal lovingly tells her.
Kemal sees Raci's photo Zehir sent. Kemal flashes back to the doctor who told him he did not have the correct blood type to match Deniz.... and couldn't be the father!
Emir comes over. The alien wants to know .... what are you two doing together again? Intense look from Kemal and a flashback to more of the phone convo between Kemal and Nihan about what to do if Emir discovered them. Kemal tells Emir he asked Nihan to come because he learned something related to Ozan's death. Emir declares Kemal is falsely accusing him, making things up to be near his wife. "Let's go, Nihan. The man you found in my accounts doesn't live here. I gave money to Cumhur to kidnap Ozan. Let's go Nihan, I need to soothe my wounded pride. We'll go in my car." They're off.
Kemal calls Zehir. The man [Cumhur] isn't there. We've gotta find him. But there's something else first. Kemal clarifies with Zehir that Raci, the man in the photo Zehir sent, is the owner of the hospital, NOT a doctor. Kemal explains to Zehir that he saw Raci before, and he said he was a doctor. "This is more important ... Nihan has been lying to me about Deniz. We've gotta find out what she's hiding."
~~~~~
Kemal and Zehir are on the Deniz paternity case! Interesting if Kemal discovers the truth by his own efforts, and not because Nihan tells him.
What role will Mujan play in our tale? And Zeynep out on her butt, what's her next move? Emir and Asu, now that's a scary partnership.
AnonFri, thanks for another stellar recap of Monday.
Nina, sorry you're not able to watch! Hope you can get back to it soon.
Clara
Gracias, Diana. I did find this a little difficult to watch knowing what a mismatched fight this was. However, had I been there there would have been a K.O.: I would have knocked Brenda out on her face over her disrespect of the situation. How dare she try to get Santi to root her her husband when she has done everything in her power to make Santi's dad's life a living hell.
Carrizo just became seriously pathetic. I hope Rosa gets her memory back soon, but I wonder what the doctors will say about her future in boxing.
Diana, your titles and prologues are awesome. I know you write your prologues before you watch the episode; so it is really mind-blowing how well you choose your wise words. And the quotes for your titles are always apropos; THANK YOU!
Kirby, in regards to your question about Rosa's intermittent amnesia, I don't think I have ever heard of a case where the patient has such frequent "bouts" of amnesia...and Rosa's are even selective. She remembers for a fleeting moment then she forgets; and she seems to consistently remember that Oso is her "jefe" but she doesn't remember that their relationship is much more that friendship...not even for a fleeting moment! How strange is that??
ITA with everyone about the weight difference between Alejo and Rafa...very OBVIO! I am really surprised that Rafa was able to withstand such a beating until the very end.
Carrizo is just a messed up as TUrco; maybe he should go join Turco at the retreat. Question is will it help in the slightest? I think not!
Jarifa, "Loved Guevara reminding Alejo of the philosophy of boxing." Me too! Alejo is really pushing for a lonely life with his coo-coo-brained wife. What a pair they make!
I'm so glad Ringo called Foolia on her lack of trust for him. I think we all know that feeling when we advise someone of something, but they don't take it seriously until someone else tells them the same darned thing. Despite all of that, I agree with you Judy, "Our maudlin heroine actually does not deserve our Champion galán, but clearly they are fated to end up together. She'd better do some serious groveling to get him back though". It's very disheartening that current TNs have given us such weak protags. Where are the steadfast, loyal, love-you-til-I-die couples? I miss those. Oh wait, there is one on the Turkish TN :-)
Thanks Urban.
Hmmm, with your comment about a "K.O.", might I dare say Brenda has dodged a bullet? :)
I keep wondering if Brenda has been off her meds this entire time? If so, she would be completely off the wall, wouldn't she? I mean, she is but I thought it would get even worse.
Someone else raised the issue of Rosa's future boxing career (f any). I would say with any type of head injury, the answer would be no. It's a shame as she was so talented but...
Carrizo and Turco are a pair. Of losers. Too bad.
I wonder if they are going to have anyone else go down the villain path?
Diana
AnonFri and Clara, thank you for your phenomenal recaps!
I am really enjoying seeing Kemal with Deniz. And oh how exciting that Kemal is on the verge of finding that Deniz is his daughter, but how will he react toward Nihan? I hope he won;t be too angry for too long.
And I really enjoyed watching Husseyin throw Zeynep out. I wanted to feel sorry for her, but just couldn't; she dug her own hole and she can stay there.
Hakan was just plain stupid to go to that dinner...very disappointed in him after he stood his ground when Nep asked him to go. I was expecting Zeynep to call him after her father kicked her out. THe only time she calls him is when she is in trouble; why can't he see that? He's getting as pathetic as Tufan.
Thank you Rgv Chick! Your kind words are truly appreciated...
I had to smile when I read "I don't think I have ever heard of a case where the patient has such frequent "bouts" of amnesia...and Rosa's are even selective". So true! If Rosa weren't such a good person, I'd be inclined to think she might be messing with Oso!
I have to admit I am looking forward to seeing what happens to Turco and Carrizo. they've both been reprehensible, but the fortune teller's words that Turco has a bleak future makes me hope she is wrong.
There is still a bit more time for things to get even more complicated....
Diana
Wait till Turdo comes home and Moose tries to explain to Rosa that he is married to HIM too! But she is his favorite because she gave him such a sweet little girl.
And in the grand scheme of things how did we decide that it is Brenda alone who is crazy?
We would need to really fine tune our sanity test to select only her!
:-)
OK, "Wait till Turdo comes home and Moose tries to explain to Rosa that he is married to HIM too! But she is his favorite because she gave him such a sweet little girl" - I just laughed out loud.
You are too funny Kirby.
I didn't realize we thought Brenda alone is crazy. But I tell you, I would stay furthest away from her :)
Diana
Did they just pre-empt the show tonight? I completely missed that they were going to air La Rosa de Guadalupe today.
I like seeing Kemal with Deniz too. I hope he finds out soon that she's his daughter. I do see that he likely would take Deniz away from Nihan when he finds out that she lied to him about this.
Zeynep out on her butt. That was funny, but I did feel a little bit sorry for her. Though honestly, she probably just got Emir to help her out. Or maybe Hakan. I don't understand why he's dumb.
Thank you Clara!
AnonFri
Anon he's probly as dumb for the same reasons tufan is. And zeynep too.
Nihan tells Deniz it's time for daddy to find out about her, yeah it is. But
He's gonna find out before she tells him I believe. When he was lookin at her n Emir leaving(I could see the rage on his face). I saw this episode on line On yutube. Hes gonna be spitin nails mad. I didnt see it all just some.
Zeynep loves emir. She hates herself but she loves emir. And daddy throws her out on her keester. She'll Probly
Slim her way back some how.
Moma waken up. And emir wants to use
Deniz, kemal hurry get your baby away
From that pshchopath. He probly wants to make Deniz a mini-me him. Noooo!!
This is getting exciting. And more and
More insanity in the kuscouglu clan.
Thank you Clara. Good recap.
Ep. 73, Part 1: And It’s All Only Make Believe… (Glen Campbell)
Once you learn how to accept the truth, no matter how painful or heartbreaking it is, you’ll stop wasting time on the wrong people. (Sonya Parker)
We start with the catfight between Gloria and Julia (good grief, ladies, you’re in a boxing arena…take it to the ring!). After Julia calls Gloria a social climber and manipulator who uses her son to get what she wants, Gloria pushes her; so, Julia pushes back…as Ringo returns and stops them. When he asks what is going on Gloria plays the victim and Julia tells him that Gloria pushed her first. After she asks if he is going to believe her, Ringo scoffs and throws Julia’s words back at her: “If he believes her (Julia), then he would have to ask Gloria to leave his house; and he has known her for years.” When he asks if that sounds familiar, Julia walks off with her tail between her legs (and forgot to say “touché).
At the Garay house, Brenda is pissed because no one is coming…but it doesn’t matter because they don’t need anyone else to celebrate. Alejo, Long Face doesn’t feel like celebrating anyway and leaves. Brenda can’t believe he walked out so Diego tells her not to fret…boxers tend to be temperamental. Brenda then asks about her credit cards; so, Diego tells her he can’t get them for her since Julia has now taken over. After she pleads, Diego tells her that he will see what he can do.
At the club, Luchis is all over Guachin (did she shower?) and the Oso calm celebrates Rafa’s fight. Everyone praises Rafa since what is important is that he showed that he has what it takes to be a boxer…he may even turn out to be better that Oso.
Julia goes to visit Rosa, but doesn’t find her.
At Turco’s house, Rosa is with Celia and Carrizo. When she asks about Rocio, Carrizo tells her that she went on vacation with her grandmother. Carrizo then suggests that they have dinner.
Alejo enters the club and listens as Oso gives a very sincere speech. He was not able to be with Rafa during the first yeas of his life, but he hopes to live many years to compensate for all the time he wasn’t with him. Oso wants to be with Rafa not only for successes, but also for his failures. He wants Rafa to be a champion; not just in the ring, but in life. He is grateful to God that he has a son like Rafa. As Oso finishes, Alejo hangs his head low and leaves.
Later, Rafa and Oso return to their apartment. After Rafa thanks Oso for everything and goes to bed, Julia calls Oso and tells him that Rosa is missing; so, he rushes off to the hospital.
Alejo goes to a bar where the bartender recognizes him and congratulates him for his win. Alejo thanks him but he is not enjoying his victory since he is more alone now than before. Because of his pride, he has lost his friends and those who appreciated him.
At the hospital, Oso arrives and after the nurse describes the last man who came to visit Rosa, Oso deduces that it was Carrizo…and he took her!
Ringo is putting Santi to bed and chatting about the fight while Gloria listens from behind the door. She smiles when Santi asks Ringo if he will be his mother’s boyfriend again. Ringo tells him ‘no,’ but Santi would really like that.
Julia is in her bedroom when Brenda comes in to chide her for not showing up for Alejo’s celebration. Julia tells her that she was visiting Rosa who was in the hospital, but Brenda dismisses it saying that Rosa was dumb to not look both ways before crossing the street. After Brenda goes into Julia’s bathroom, she yells at the top of her lungs, “NOOO! NO! NO!” Julia rushes in as Brenda cries that she is bleeding and doesn’t want to lose her baby. Julia rushes her to the hospital.
Ep. 73, Part 2: And It’s All Only Make Believe… (Glen Campbell)
Oso goes to look for Rosa at her apartment. The landlady approaches and tells him that he hasn’t seen her…and she hasn’t seen Carrizo either; so, Oso calls Carrizo and asks him where he has Rosa. Carrizo smugly tells him that she is with him and is very comfortable there…so it’s best that Oso forget about her. After Rosa asks who he was talking to, Carrizo tells her that it was just a “viejo rabo verde” (Literally” old green tail; figuratively: old, old man) who likes to bother people.
At Teresa’s place, Ringo tells Teresa about his encounter with Julia who finally found out about Diego. It hurts him to know that Julia believed someone else, but not him. Teresa comments that where there is no trust, there is no love. It seems that he and Julia were not meant to be together.
At Turco’s house, Carrizo is telling off a pizza place because his pizza hasn’t been delivered. When the doorbell rings, he thinks the pizza has finally arrived, but Oso storms in calling out for Rosa and telling her he has come for her. When Rosa asks who he is, Carrizo tells her it’s the bothersome man he told her about. Oso wonders how Carrizo was able to talk Rosa into coming with him, so Carrizo replies that he just told her the truth and Rosa wanted to be with her family. Oso tries to get Rosa to remember who he is; he even sings the song he wrote for her, but Rosa looks clueless. When Oso tells her that all her friends at the club are worried about her, Rosa tells Carrizo that she can’t allow her friends to worry so she goes with Oso.
Alejo arrives at the hospital and Julia tells him about the bleeding; they still don’t know if she lost the baby. When they enter Brenda’s room, the doctor tells them that Brenda was never pregnant! Brenda calls him a liar; she is sure she was pregnant because she had all the symptoms! Once outside the room, the doctor explains that Brenda had a “psychological pregnancy.” Since Brenda’s desire to be pregnant was so great, her hormones reacted and she felt the effects of a pregnancy. She must be very depressed because she thought that a baby could bring her out of her emotional state. After the doctor leaves, Alejo is very disappointed, but more so because he now sees how ill Brenda is (lightbulb flickers…Alejo, you thought you were in a fight in the RING! You ain’t seen nuttin’ yet!)).
Alejo returns to see Brenda and tries to console her by telling her that they will have more children, but Brenda obsesses about the fact that he smells of alcohol and chides him for going out to get drunk while she was losing their baby. When he tells her that there was no baby, Brenda blames him, and only him for not having a baby…because he is incapable of getting her pregnant; he is useless and she hates him!! She starts yelling at him to leave. Outside in the corridor, Alejo tells Julia about Brenda blaming him for not getting her pregnant. Julia explains that they will have to explain everything to Brenda calmly.
Oso takes Rosa to his apartment. When Rafa cones out, she recognizes him and asks what happened to him; so, he tells her that he was in a boxing match. After Oso tells Rafa that Rosa will stay in his room, Rosa remembers that Rafa is Oso’s son. She then thinks that Carrizo will worry if she doesn’t return, so Oso assures her that he will talk to Carrizo.
Brenda is back in her bedroom. When Julia comes in with the universal solvent tea, Brenda refuses anything because nothing will bring back her baby. Julia tries to explain that she was never pregnant, but Brenda again puts the blame on Alejo. After Julia defends Alejo, Brenda runs her and her tea off.
Alejo drinks as he thinks about all the people who tried to warn him about Brenda’s psychological problems. He finally realizes that they were right (light bulb shining brightly!)
Ep. 73, Part 3: And It’s All Only Make Believe… (Glen Campbell)
The Next Day—
Julia goes to see Isabel; she needs to know the truth. Isabel explains that she didn’t want to say anything until she had the evidence. She has evidence about the fraud. As she hesitates in mentioning the murder, Julia assures her that she knows about her suspicions that Diego was behind the kidnapping and the murder. Isabel then explains that Julia can press charges for the fraud, but she hopes that Julia will wait until they can prove Diego’s role in the murder. Julia agrees with her and cries that she does not know how she will face Diego without wanting to lunge at him. Julia can’t but feel that she was fooled and so stupid! She should have believed…Ringo who told her so many times not to trust Diego. Because of her stupidity, everything is lost (viewerville NODS). When Julia asks how she can help, Isabel advises her not to alert Diego about their suspicions. Julia then thinks about what a fool she was to marry Diego…she only married him because she felt guilty about dumping him after being with him for so many years. After Isabel tells her that Ivan was very special to her, as was the family, she asks Julia to take care of herself.
Brenda is at shop…lifting some jewelry when she is caught. She denies it and uses her very important name and warning them that her husband (the inept one) is an attorney. The security guards arrive and the salesman pulls out some merchandise that Brenda lifted.
Oso calls Guevara into his office and asks why he hadn’t told him about losing his sight. When Oso urges him to get the surgery, Guevara tells him that he has no money. Oso chides him for only thinking about what people will think when they find out he has no money. Oso doesn’t know where they will get the money, but Guevara will get his surgery…gawd dern it!!
Manuel goes in to see Alejo and asks what is wrong…he should be elated that he won. When Alejo shares that Brenda was never pregnant, Manuel advises him that he needs to prepare for what’s coming. Alejo wonders what could come next; he shouldn’t have married Brenda…his life is hell. Manuel advises that if getting separated is the solutions, then Alejo needs to do that…the important thing is that Alejo feels well. Just then Alejo gets the call about Brenda so he rushes off to the police station.
Guevara goes to see Susana. He appreciates that she worries about him, but there is a very good reason for his refusal of the surgery. He is not who she thinks he is. At one time he had a lot of money, but he blew it all on cars, women and other luxuries. He has no money; and he lied because he didn’t want anyone’s pity, especially hers. Susana appreciates his honesty and gives him a hug reassuring him that they will find a way to deal with this.
Luchis kisses up to Guachin (literally and figuratively). When she asks him for some money, he tells her that they need to be frugal. When she reminds him that he told her he would give her everything she wanted, Guachin hands her 300 pesos…which Luchis scoffs at but quickly puts in her bra (Whatcha wanna bet that Guachin’s bed will be empty about the same time as his wallet?).
Ep. 73, Part 4: And It’s All Only Make Believe… (Glen Campbell)
Alejo arrives at the police station. When he is told of the charges, Alejo can’t believe it and asks to talk to Brenda. When she sees him, she denies taking anything…someone set her up! The owner must be envious of her. After Alejo demands that she tell him the truth, Brenda cries that he has to believe her because she is his wife! Alejo explains that the charges against her are very serious; he will see what he can do to keep them from processing her and sending her to the big house.
Susana calls Ignacio to tell him why Guevara is so hesitant about getting the surgery. When she asks what he can do to help Ignacio offers to waive his charges, but he can’t do anything about the hospital charges which will be costly. Susana wonders where they will get so much money.
Julia goes to see Ringo to apologize for not believing in him. She knows it’s a lot to ask that he forgive her, but she hopes he does. Ringo tells her that her distrust her him a lot. He had never loved a woman as much as he loved her. but he had never suffered as much as he did with her. He thinks that they will only hurt each other. He can forgive her, but that does not diminish his disappointment that she did not trust him. He doesn’t know is he can trust her again because it may happen again. Julia is hurt by his words. Ringo was also hurt by her words and he has spent a lot of time trying to get over it. When she mentions Gloria, Ringo assures her that Gloria has never been their problem. He then tells her that he will fulfill his contract with her father; when it terminates, then they will see what happens. Before leaving Ringo (and us), Julia’s eyes tear up as she tells him that she is very sorry.
AnonFri, I had no idea about the preemption either! In my area, they showed double episodes of "Sin Miedo a la Verdad!" ARGHHHH!
Thank you Ms RGV Chik. My my my the Book of Revelations tonight. Alejo, one of our slowest slow learners finally sees the light. (Light Bulb burning his head it is so bright)
Even Foolia can no longer believe the preposterous lies she has enjoyed toting around all this time. I would only agree to Ringo taking her back just to spite Gloria.
Rosa's capricious amnesia is playing tricks on everyone. Thank you Oso for dragging yet ANOTHER gal out of Turco's palace.
And our Fav-O-Rite squirrel Brenda must have been eating a lot of acorns because she had a NUTS pregnancy. But she made herself feel better about it all by going out and doing a Chisca Garza and stealing a dress and some jewelry. Alejo, do you see which way this is going? Not Up? Uh huh. I agree
I was so surprised to see, with no noticed at all, that they put La rosa de Guadalupe in the place of Amor Eterno. I rechecked yesterday episode and they firmly stated in their coming up preview for today that it would play along with showing some scenes. Important ones that show Kemal getting his hacker friend to look into the hospital records of when Deniz was brought in, and by his face I think Daddy knows the truth.
Not sure why they didn't show it.
Very frustrating. At least I came on to see I wasn't the only one affected.
Bummer.
Bren =0(
PS. You don't think Univision changed it to Unimas?
They keep doing that with some of their others TN and I find it so disrespectful. I know this cause my mom has complained about them doing that to some that she had been watching. She doesn't have Unimas in her programming line up so she had missed the continuation.
Bren =0)
Bren, I don’t think Univision changed it to Unimas. Maybe they thought the special report was going to take too long and cut too
much of Amor???
Rgv Chick,
Good to know. I didn't realized there was a special report since I came in a little late to only watch Amor Eterno which wasn't playing. So I was a little confused. So I've sat here kind of listening while working on some stuff, in case they put it later on. I didn't want to miss it.
I'm happy to report that during the news, they showed a preview for Amor Eterno and it looks like they will show tomorrow what was schedule today. At least it looks that way and I sure hope so. I'm so relieved. I had to rewind it to make sure.
Bren =0)
Rgv Chick, this was off the charts. 5 stars out of 4. Smart, savvy, superb. Perfect title and quote.
"When he asks if that sounds familiar, Julia walks off with her tail between her legs (and forgot to say “touché)" was wonderful.
" Alejo, you thought you were in a fight in the RING! You ain’t seen nuttin’ yet!))", “viejo rabo verde” and "universal solvent tea" were more favorites among many.
Ringo has risen more than a notch in my estimation. He is being thoughtful and cautious, and extremely honest with Julia. She should well ruminate on "Because of her stupidity, everything is lost (viewerville NODS)". I'm so happy he did not forgive her immediately despite sincere pleas with tears welling in her eyes. As Teresa smartly noted "...where there is no trust, there is no love. It seems that he and Julia were not meant to be together".
I comment on how the mighty have fallen, yet despite some posturing and moments of outsize ego, Alejo has been a fairly good guy all the way around. He did deserve more than a dismal celebration with Diego and Brenda, but "Because of his pride, he has lost his friends and those who appreciated him". While it's too late for him to undo the past, he better get a grip on his present and future while he still can.
That said, unless Brenda can be forced into treatment, nothing will change. Alejo has to extricate himself one way or the other.
"capricious amnesia" - a gem Kirby.
Rgv Chick, loved the recap. Things are in chaos, but you've clarified everything so precisely and clearly. Thank you amiga!
Diana
RgvChick, thanks for your entertaining recap. Perfect title and intro! I so enjoyed your running commentary: “did she shower?” (ewwww) was just one of your many comments that were spot-on.
Would someone shut Brenda up? Sorry, but I was hoping her cellmate would do me the favor but no such luck. Her constant wailing was beyond annoying. Now that she is in the legal system, that might support Alejo’s hand into placing her into the medical system. At least, that is what I hope. I suspect she will be “wailing” out on bail tonight. Alejo has had a rude awakening to what he married to say the least.
I liked Ringo’s response to Julia but do not agree with his supporting Gloria by allowing her to live at his house AT ALL. I think I said that before. Oh well, I will rant on this one again. His being “gallant” with Gloria does not impress me (much)/sounds like the lyric to an old song./since he knows the duplicitous person she is. He did divorce her. I find it so inappropriate that I think it puts him on equal footing with Julia’s not believing him. Even Steven! (Like in Seinfeld)
Kirby, I agree with Diana: “capricious amnesia” is a real gem.
Diana, ITA that Alejo has not been a bad guy until recently. Let’s hope he either gets his wife the help she needs or divorces her. He doesn’t deserve a lifetime of that. Guess Brenda could turn into just another walking PSA if she ends up treated and happy at the end.
Rgv Chick, I always love song titles because then that music will be playing in my head all day. Much better than worry about Coronavirus fears. And the Sonja Parker quotes was so intriguing I went and looked up her other quotes in Wise Old Sayings. Wow, that gal can really nail it!
This was a great beginning to your resumé of the action:
We start with the catfight between Gloria and Julia (good grief, ladies, you’re in a boxing arena…take it to the ring!). After Julia calls Gloria a social climber and manipulator who uses her son to get what she wants, Gloria pushes her; so, Julia pushes back…as Ringo returns and stops them. When he asks what is going on Gloria plays the victim and Julia tells him that Gloria pushed her first. After she asks if he is going to believe her, Ringo scoffs and throws Julia’s words back at her: “If he believes her (Julia), then he would have to ask Gloria to leave his house; and he has known her for years.” When he asks if that sounds familiar, Julia walks off with her tail between her legs (and forgot to say “touché).
And some other gems:
(Did she shower?)[Luchis]
[Alejo] (lightbulb flickers...) (lightbulb shining brigtly...)
universal solvent tea (yessss, who needs medication when you've got tea! HAH)
(viewerville NODS)
[Brenda] her husband (the inept one) Wow, I don't think I have ever hated a character as much as Brenda. Her immaturity and self-centeredness is so galling. And her cruelty to others is mind-boggling. Nothing about her elicits a bit of compassion or pity from me. Maybe that's my problem but UGH! what an annoying character!
and finally, the best of all:
(whatcha wanna bet that Guachin's bed will be empty about the same time as his wallet?)
Guachin's "learning experience" is going to be expensive. But he was happy before, with only a few pesos in his pocket, and he will be happy again, because that is his temperament. Thank goodness he's basically a "half-full glass" kind of guy.
As are you, Positive Lady. Thanks for an entertaining and very readable recap, and thanks as well for the wisdom of Sonja Parker, an author and life coach totally unknown to me.
"Now that she is in the legal system, that might support Alejo’s hand into placing her into the medical system". Jarifa, excellent point that makes much sense! I'm crossing my fingers....
Judy, I loved "Guachin's "learning experience" is going to be expensive. But he was happy before, with only a few pesos in his pocket, and he will be happy again, because that is his temperament". He will be! Because he is kind and good and he has many who love him.
Very sage comments today...
Diana
Great work, RGV Chick. Too many good ones to quote.
Alejo just learned a valuable lesson about himself and he should listen to Guevarra who told him that he should not take out his rage in the ring. Perhaps he is getting a little Karmageddon in facing the facts about Brenda, about the warnings he got from various people.
My gut told me all along that Brenda wasn't pregnant and isn't that a relief to all who know her. I can't imagine her as a mother. She would be just as toxic -- and dangerous -- as Roberta in MDC. Alejo should see to getting her committed and then getting a divorce.
Guachin is learning an expensive lesson but at least he can roll with the punches of that.
I don't know how they will prove that Diego killed Ivan.
Thank you, Diana, Kirby, Jarifa, Judy and UrbanA! Things are finally at a slightly faster pace now starting with the "Book of Revelations" (thanks, Kirby!).
I have to say that I feel sorry for "Alejo, one of our slowest slow learners [who] finally sees the light. And I'm glad that his "pride ride" was short-lived. Diana, I agree that " Alejo has been a fairly good guy all the way around" but TBH I'm satisfied that his celebration was a bomb; it really opened his eyes as to what really was important. It was quite generous of Manuel to go into his office and congratulate him and I'm glad he did. At least everything isn't lost between friends.
Kirby, "Rosa's capricious amnesia" love it and I couldn't have come up with a better description!
Jarifa, "Would someone shut Brenda up? Sorry, but I was hoping her cellmate would do me the favor but no such luck." LOL it amazes me how much we think alike! A few pulls to her hair might have put some of those neurons back in place :-) And here's something else we agree on: "I liked Ringo’s response to Julia but do not agree with his supporting Gloria by allowing her to live at his house AT ALL." I think Teresa has the last word on whether Gloria stays or goes, but she does rely too much on Ringo's decision in that respect. She keeps telling him that she wants Gloria out, but she never does anything about it; and I can't really blame her because Santi would hold it against her.
JudyB, "Guachin's "learning experience" is going to be expensive. But he was happy before, with only a few pesos in his pocket, and he will be happy again, because that is his temperament. Thank goodness he's basically a "half-full glass" kind of guy." What insight you have! Of course Guachin will get through it; he will survive his "lucha."
Urban A, I can't imagine her [Brenda] as a mother. She would be just as toxic -- and dangerous -- as Roberta in MDC." OMGoodness, someone please get her spayed!
The only way I see Diego being caught for the murder is if one of his minions is caught first and sings. Or maybe it'll be one of those situations where Diego is so upset that his mouth runs too far...and it slips.
I was looking forward to reading the recap but kemal didn't show up. I'll
Read the recap for tonight's episode tomorrow.
I've got unimas, but I want it to stay
Right where it is, on uni.
The pres only stayed on 9 minutes. Did
Not watch. They could have put kemal n
The gang on. But it is what it is.
