I'm afraid much of tonight's episode went by too quickly for me to understand what people were saying. However, I did enjoy the segments having to do with Luis and Jimena at "Juan's" funeral in Chicago. I have no use for Luis' two-timing his two families, but I do enjoy his seemingly inexhaustible ability to come up with excuses/explanations on the spur of the moment. Jimena notices that all the people at the funeral are Chinese. Luis informs her that Juan's father was Chinese and his mother was Mexican from Oaxaca. Jimena then asks,"So why are there no Mexican's here?" Luis's response: they couldn't get visas. And just think of how they must feel, not being able to say goodbye to Juan. "Juan's" widow then opens the casket so Jimena and Luis can see Juan. Jimena is astonished that he's so old. Luis had told her they went to the university together. Jimena asks, "How could you have gone to the university with him--he's old." Luis replies: Juan started late because he didn't have any money. Jimena then turns to the widow and says, "You must have been very proud of Juan." Whereupon the widow admits that she doesn't know all that much about Juan, they only met a year ago via Flirter. And Juan never learned Spanish! Even that doesn't faze Luis, who looks lovingly at Jimena and observes that love doesn't need words, it's a universal language.
Of course, while he's in Chicago with Jimena, Aurora has been leaving him messages telling him that she's furious at his having left her in the lurch. "We're done!"
Aurora comes to see Jimena at her office. She wants to separate from "Gordo," and she needs Jimena's help. She can't take any more. She thought that when they moved to Houston, she'd see more of him and they'd be a normal family, but she sees him even less than when she lived in Monterey. She's worried about how she can afford to live here. Jimena tells her to stop worrying about that. The guy who got her pregnant will pay. And there are ways of demonstrating a marriage even without a signed document. Living together for many years is one, and having a child together should also help. As they're talking, Luis comes to the law firm to talk to Jimena. He's about to barge into her office but the receptionist stops him and tells him she's with a client. He then texts Aurora, and to his surprise, as soon as he does so, he hears the sound of a text being received. He sneaks up next to Jimena's office and listens to the two of them plotting. Aurora says she's sure there's another woman, and when she finds her, she'll kill her. Suddenly the receptionist comes up behind him. He makes a rapid exit.
In the school's bathroom, Lucia tells Ale that her mother will be furious with her because she did very poorly on an exam. Ale takes the exam, tears it up, sets it on fire, and drops it in a wastebasket. The flames set off a smoke alarm. Lucia and Ale quickly leave the bathroom but are caught by a teacher, who accuses them of smoking. Both mothers are summoned to the school. Marlene meanly berates Lucia. Ale apologizes to Reme. Reme puts her arms around both girls, offers to take them home for some chicken soup, and has them promise that they'll not do what they did again. [Telemundo's PSA for bad and good mothering?]. When Reme and the girls arrive at Reme's, she finds Emiliano, Max, and Dario laughing hysterically after eating marijuana-laced brownies. Reme is not pleased to find that Emiliano knows that she and Max had sex the previous night. FF>>
Meanwhile, Lucia and Ale are in Ale's room. Lucia admits that she has felt something since she met Ale, she's not sure what, but she wants to find out what it is. She and Ale kiss.
Isabel comes upon Fernando and Pablo and immediately accuses Pablo of being a liar. She explains to Fernando that Pablo said that he and Emiliano were a couple. This led Isabel to make some erroneous and embarrassing statements to Emiliano. One of Emiliano's co-workers informed her that no, he was not gay, he was straight, "super-straight." Pablo goes off, leaving Isabel and Fernando. Along comes Pedro, Pablo's father. He tells Isabel he's looking for his grandson, Daniel. Then he spots Fernando and says he recognizes him from the videocall. "I'm Pedro, your father-in-law." When Fernando gives him a blank stare, Pedro says, "You're Pablo's novio, aren't you?" Fernando lamely tells Isabel that Pedro is joking. Pedro realizes that he's put his foot in his mouth (metí la pata), and he becomes ill and collapses. He asks Fernando to call Pablo.
In the four minutes it takes for Telemundo to show its commercials, Pedro has been taken to the hospital, and Connie, Mónica, and Pablo are there awaiting the results of the medical exam. Then Plutarco shows up to be there for Connie. She's appreciative, Then Lobo shows up. Plutarco tries to get rid of him, claiming that this is a family matter. Finally, though, it's Plutarco who leaves. The doctor reports that Pedro has had a pre-heart attack, but that if all the other exams are good, he'll be able to go home. Lobo asks Connie whether she'd like to go out for dinner, or perhaps go back to his place. She says she's really wiped out from the events of the day. Mañana? he asks. OK, says Connie.
SpanProf, it seems that both plot-based and pot-based make sense here. That is, as far as anything makes sense. :-)
I'm off to another ZOOM session. Chao.
Thanks so much for the fine recap, Juanita! I'll put something up tonight. It's definitely too hot in my spare room/office for lengthy writing. We in the Bay Area are not equipped for heat waves!
Yes, the marijuana scene was ridiculous. My fingers itched to >>>FF through it; but, since this is the only novela I'm watching, I persevered.
They definitely have me guessing with Remedios partner at the end. Max was especially boorish last night. And...it's almost criminal to have someone ingest marijuana without letting them know. Not against any form of using marijuana, just as long as the users know what they're doing.
Plutarco was behaving like a jackass at the hospital. Lobo called him Connie's ex-husband which, of course, isn't exactly true.
And Lobo disappeared from the waiting room for a while. And we discovered that he met with Pedro's doctor, a big fan of the Houston Jaguars, and Pedro was going to get the best medical treatment imaginable.
So the Ale/Lucía relationship took a step forward. Not sure where they're going with this. If Lucía somehow discovers that she's a lesbian, why would she want Ale, who seems to want to project as male? Or maybe Lucía is cis-gender and is attracted to Ale's male energy.
Someone here mentioned having seen Jimena in another novela. Did she speak in that exaggerated way in that one? She sort of drawls her words. Definitely easy to understand but verrrry annoying.
Miércoles
When Martín crows about a gift from his father, Emi remarks that Plutarco is trying, like all divorced dads, to buy his kids’ love.
Luis overhears Jimena on the phone telling Aurora her plan to destroy El Gordo
Connie and Remedios make up.
Reme is in the shower when the water stops. Max has apparently bought a pedal (something musical, I presume) instead of paying the water bill. She goes postal on him.
Isabel rags on Fernando some more. He keeps telling her he loved her when he was married to her, but he’s changed. When Pablo approaches, Fer appears to be once again pulling away from him.
When Aurora is furious with Luis in the street, he proposes.
Reme shows up at the law office. Her hair doesn’t look very good! When Jimena tries to horn in on she and Connie’s lunch together, Reme tells her she has la mecha muy corta hoy {a short fuse). ¡Yo tengo la mecha corta con Jimena cada vez que la veo!
Fernando’s niece, Mariana, shows up in Houston and just starts classes. Apparently, no enrollment process or proof of residence is required in Houston. Danny is smitten and Ale notices. When Danny tries to invite her over, Benjamin overhears, says there’s a party at Danny’s and everyone is invited.
Plutarco is caught eavesdropping at Connie’s door while she and Reme talk about Lobo.
Reme then is teaching Connie some dance moves since Lobo has invited Connie to go dancing.
Aurora tells Jimena that she’s marrying Gordo so the legal proceedings are off. Jimena notices that Aurora has the same ring, but doesn’t twig that this is anything odd.
A coach at school sees Ale kick a long field goal when she’s supposed to be punished by picking up all the balls from the field.
Plutarco takes Gloria dancing and they insist Emiliano come along. This is Plutarco’s plan to make Connie jealous. The three show up at the same club where Connie, Reme, and Lobo have just toasted with champagne.
Thank you very much to Juanita and novelera for recapping.
The pot brownies. Didn’t take Emiliano for being so naïve about such things. I guess that’s why the guys didn’t warn him.
Looks like Ale will become the new placekicker/punter for the football team. I wonder if she will win a game for the team and Benjamin will stop the bullying.
There are some actors from Betty in NY in this one (Plutarco, Jimena, Luis). To me, their character portrayals on 100 Dias are very reminiscent of that show. It’s as if they left the fashion industry, got their law degrees, moved to Houston and opened a practice. novelera, Jimena speaks the exact same way in this one, and yes, it’s annoying. Character of Luis is a little different—here he’s straight and a bigamist. On Betty, his character was gay and his husband was the bigamist.
Why do all the “other” women in this show have long, dark, straight hair? It’s very hard to tell them apart.
I’ve been missing quality programming and so I’m tuning in to LRDS2 Special Edition a few nights a week. They are doing a good job of editing. Not sure what the new scenes are, but it doesn’t feel like anything important is missing. Last night Manuela killed Willy, Cousin Edgar took pics of Dani & Alex smooching and Lupo rescued Sofia from the hole.

Thanks very much, novelera, for a helpful and complete recap. And special thanks for translating la mecha muy corta (and I agree with your comment!). I didn't know the word and probably wouldn't have realized how useful it could be until I came upon your translation of the phrase.
Well, I've been going back and forth between Max and Emiliano as a final partner for Remedios, but last night's episode pushed me strongly into Emiliano's camp. How could Max be so irresponsible as to buy something for his guitar instead of paying the WATER bill???
So Mónica apologizes to Pedro. That aspect of the 100 days thread was just plain stupid to begin with.
As for Luis getting down on his knees and proposing to Aurora, I found it amusing for about two seconds. And then I thought about how devastated she and Nico are going to be when Luis' deception is revealed. What a turd he is! A fast-thinking, good-in-bed turd is still a turd.
I didn't pay much attention to Ale's kicking the football, but my impression was that it hit the goal post and bounced back, not over. In terms of the plot, it probably makes more sense if it went over. I guess I should really go back and look again.
Hmmm...in my comment about not knowing the word mecha, that word must be written in invisible type. In other words, I probably forgot to close one of the pointy brackets I used to italicize it, and so the word disappeared.
dondi356, I too miss quality programming, and even though I had seen (and loved) La Reina del Sur 2, I did watch one or two episodes of the "special edition," hoping to see the advertised new scenes. As far as I could tell from those two episodes, however, the "new scenes" were simply showing us a few minutes of how things were done by the film crew. That wasn't enough to persuade me to watch the show again, so I stopped. I'm not sure I told my DVR to stop, however, so I may eventually be able to go back after more time has gone by.
Yes, SpanProf, the coach did look at Ale with real interest after she kicked the football. And that would make a lot more sense if she had successfully kicked the football over the goalpost. I guess I'll have to look again.
And yes, if Luis marries Aurora, he'd be committing bigamy. I wonder what kind of punishment the telenovela writers have in store for him. I'm not sure I see him in prison, though he deserves it for the pain he will have caused his two families.
Thanks, Juanita, for mentioning the scene where Mónica is with Pedro in his hospital room.
Vis a vis mecha corta, I'm pretty sure that description entered my vocabulary in the first season of El Señor de los Cielos. That was the nickname of Aurelio Casillas' brother.
SpanProf, I'm not sure if they were going with the only "cool" nightclub in Houston or that Plutarco chose it to flaunt Gloria in Connie's face. I remember Emiliano saying something about not realizing that Plu liked reguetón.
Dondi, amen! I confused Gloria and Lorena (the law firm's divorce client) and Juanita pointed out they were different women.
Luis plans to marry Aurora in Monterrey, so his punishment of Jimena somehow attending would be a stretch.
I am also on Team Emiliano. That was, for me, strongly suggested when Reme did not tell Max that she loved him when he was assuming the night in bed meant that. I did notice that Reme having been to bed with both Max and Emi was a departure from the telenovela trope where a heroine only goes to bed with the one she loves. But they may be going for that with Connie. I doubt she'll go to bed with Lobo.
Lobo goes with Connie and Remedios to a nightclub to dance. Plutarco has listened at the door of Connie's office and has heard where they're going, so he decides to go to the same nightclub with Gloria. On the dance floor, Plutarco tries with Gloria to outdo Connie and Lobo. (Why do I feel as if I'm watching high school students?)
A sad-looking Max tells Ale that he doesn't know how to get Reme back. Ale says she's not a good one to give such advice, but she can tell him that Reme loves him a lot. Later, she tells him that Emiliano may be her biological father, but he, Max, is her FATHER.
Lobo, somewhat drunk, tells Reme that he has put the apartments that he has bought in the name of his cousin, so his ex-wife won't get a peso.
Emiliano asks Reme whether she has gone back to Max. She tells him she has not.
Aurora puts on the sexy negligée that she has bought. Jimena thinks she looks terrific in it, and Gordo won't ever want to leave the bedroom. Aurora is happy to hear this, because they have a little problem...with...propulsión, which I assume refers to his occasional inability to have an erection. Jimena claims that she and Flaco don't have such problems [liar, liar, pants on fire], but she predicts that the sexy nightgown Aurora has bought will cure him. Suddenly, Aurora catches sight of a framed photo of Jimena, Susy, and...GORDO!! Shaken, she asks Jimena who the guy in the photo is. Jimena tells her it's her husband, Luis. Aurora is shocked. Alas, she doesn't tell Jimena that that's Gordo. Instead, she says she just remembered that Nico has to get up early the next day, and she has to leave. Immediately. She races out the door still dressed in the sexy nightgown. As soon as she gets outside, she breaks down and cries.
When Aurora gets back to her apartment, Luis greets her. He tells her he thinks she's right, they should have lots of guests at their wedding. He then proposes that they wait a year to get married so they can save up. She grabs him by the neck, screams at him, calls him all kinds of names, chokes him, and tells him to die. He falls on the ground, unconscious. Oops, no, that happened only in her mind. Actually, she just looks very sad, claims she's tired and doesn't feel well, and goes to kiss Nico good night. The next morning, Luis finds Aurora and Nico gone. He calls her, leaves a message.
Reme tells Emiliano that she's no longer working as Lobo's personal assistant. It was good while it lasted, and the pay was good, but it's over (Ya valió, one meaning of which in Mexico is "it's over"). She returns home to Max, tells him Emiliano took her home but nothing happened. Max tells her he's confused, and that the best thing might be for him to go live with Dario. A short time later (a few hours? a day?), Ale sees Dario helping Max carry his things out of the house. Max tells her that things are confusing here, so he's moving out, but nothing will change. He assures Ale that he loves her.
In spite of what she said to Emiliano, Reme still seems to be working for Lobo. An angry woman comes to Lobo's house demanding to see him. Reme tells her that he's not here. The woman asks if Reme is the amante of the moment. No, I'm the personal assistant of the moment. The screaming woman turns out to be Lobo's ex-wife (Hilda?). She tells Reme that Lobo has cancelled their joint account (la cuenta mancomunada) and left their daughters without a centavo. Reme brings Hilda back to her house, tells her she too is going through a divorce, and encourages her to talk. Hilda says that when she and Lobo started out, they were poor, but they had plans. They saved. That was when he wasn't famous, wasn't Lobo, he was just Fabian. But when he was converted into the Grand Lobo, he began to think he was a god. She stood by him, in spite of his infidelities, his drunkenness, his other excesses. He only met his daughters for the first time two weeks after they were born, he wasn't present for their birthdays. And now he's going to leave them penniless. Reme tells her about Lobo's putting the apartments in his cousin's name. Hilda is furious. Reme suggests hittting him where it hurts--the money. Hilda says he deserves to go to prison, she will denounce him. Reme tries to convince her that that's a bad idea, but Hilda is determined. She thanks Reme for her help and leaves.
