DAYTIME TNs…y Mas!: Week of July 20, 2020

Good Day, Caraymates!

Welcome to Daytime TNs! This page is being provided to give those who are watching daytime TNs on any channel a place to discuss any of the TNs aired prior to 6PM.  If you would like to contribute a recap or just some highlights for a daytime TN, I’m sure there are those who watch the same TNs that would appreciate it.

This page can also be used as a forum to keep in touch, discuss strolls down the Caray! Caray! memory lane, or anything else that is of interest to the patio.

Please remember that ANY daytime novela can be discussed and everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Friendly reminder to PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Vecina”; “Amores”)
"Daytime TNs" will be posted on Mondays only. There will be a different page posted on Thursdays with a variety of topics for week-end discussion.

Anita and AndyB,

I was surprised to see that this was on Unimás when I started watching it on my Comcast OnDemand last week and that you guys were watching it. 155 (?) episodes are way too many for me but I am having a good watch skimming and cutting episodes that seem to be superfluous to the main plot. For a traditional novela, it has been much more fun than I had anticipated. What episode are you on?

"COMO DICHO":

Brisa Carrillo is AWESOME.

LQNPA
Jarifa--I'm caught up, but exhausted with 2-hr chunks daily. Like you, I'm skimming past all the superfluous stories (especially Ulises and Macaria). I've been concentrating on everything Rogelio does, says and expresses with his eyes, from puppy dog and in love, to douchebag. Right now he's undergone the operation and Dr. Ernesto has just pricked his legs and feet for the second time and Hallelujah, he could feel them. AP is ecstatic. So far everything is right as rain between them.

El Vuelo De La Victoria,
Starts today, Monday July 20th, at 5:00PM on Galavision
Anyone interested in watching?

LQNPA

Anita, You are way ahead of me but I hope to get there later this week. I am sorry I never watched this when it premiered. Looks like it will be headed to a happy ending. I think Salinas was probably at his prime in this one; a real cutie.

LQNPA

Jarifa,

Hi! Nice to see you again.

"I am sorry I never watched this when it premiered." Yeah, it's a shame and we could have used the company   :-)

I record the episodes and watch them late at night usually, but I got busy with another project this past week and weekend and I'm now about eight hours behind, counting today's episode(s). Since this is the first time I've seen this TN I've mostly been watching whatever they have shown and have been very conservative with the FFWD button. That may have to change for a while so that I can catch up.

Andy

So sorry about giving away some of the action. There's still a lot more to go, so I'll refrain and stick to character development--or undevelopment.

LQNPA

Andy,Good to see you, too! The company would have been great. I started at the beginning of this on Fri and have used many of the recaps to leap frog over some of the episodes. The patio looks like it was a fun one.

Anita, I never met a spoiler I didn’t like, so no sorries necessary. After 55 episodes, I would vote for undevelopment. .

Looks like Osvaldo Benavides has been type cast as the ne’er do well brother more than once.

LQNPA
Jarifa--As for undevelopment, keep an eye on Cinthia. What none of understood watching in prime time was how Rogelio would "allow" his sister to dress the way she did. He was so conservative and narrow minded overlord that having to look at Cin's belly button all the time would be annoying--or it did us!

At one point Rogelio asked AP to quit dressing like a nurse and was given a more fashionable (tight fitting and revealing) wardrobe by him. She still went for the flouncy skirts, but they were quite short. Then we began to see her occasionally in pants and plaid shirts. Wait until you see her in the emerald green dress, if you haven't already.

LQNPA

Anita, thanks for the info. I just saw the emerald green dress in #59. Good point about Cinthia’s clothes and Rogelio’s conservative tastes.

LQNPA

I am caught up! thanks to my friend and yours, Señor FFWD.

About Rogelio's letting Cynthia run around showing she wasn't carrying much excess weight, if any; perhaps he didn't want her to get married.
Seeing her dressed like that every day could be quite off-putting to potential suitors  :-)

Not that there were many around for her. I have to feel a little sorry for Cynthia, even though she's pretty bad. But she plainly has more than a few screws loose, so...

Another one who is a bit problematic for me is Rosaura. Avaricious and rotten to the core, perfectly willing to let various people be killed if it brings her the financial security she craves, but I sometimes see her as fun with her arguments with María, and in other ways. In particular, I like the way she sometimes gives her skirt a little extra shake as she makes her exit.

Speaking of skirts, Vanesa has legs that just cry out for short skirts. Why don't we see more of them?

And, yes, a shoutout to ABC's emerald green dress, and others too. No lack of eye candy to keep us interested in this TN, nope.

In case you're wondering, yes, I am bored with the story right now. It just seems to be treading water; Cynthia is frantic and acting nasty, Rogelio is angry and acting very nasty, Gustavo is making like a human pinball and bouncing off every wall he comes in contact with and acting a bit nasty.

BTW, I thought Rogelio was going to beat the stuffing out of Gus at one point. And why not? Everybody else save Cynthia has.

Andy

LQNPA

Andy, it seems that the story is set up for a lot of repetition.

The level of physical abuse meted out by Rogelio makes me feel we must be back in the 19th century.

I do like Rogelio’s red wheelchair, though.

I so agree about auntie. In one of the episodes, Rogelio told her to stop trying to sell her niece. Brother Miguel is proving to be a major annoyance, too, as well as the constantly conniving Bruno who deserves what he gets.

You guys are about 60 episodes ahead of me, It is #121/122 today. I am hoping with FFWD and recaps I might catch up before it all ends in a fuetazo!!!!

LQNPA
Andy--"Gustavo is making like a human pinball and bouncing off every wall he comes in contact with and acting a bit nasty." I never thought of him like this, but you are right on the pin-head! Great image.

This story was bizarre in every way. It was a 2012 remake and now I quote Wikipedia: "It is a remake of Delia Fiallo's original radio novela, La Mujer Que No Podia Amar. The previous television versions were Monte Calvario (Edith González, Arturo Peniche and José Alonso) and Te sigo amando (Claudia Ramírez, Luis José Santander and Sergio Goyri). La que no podía amar won 2 awards in Premios TVyNovelas, for Best Lead Actor, and Best Supporting Actor"

Of course, the former was Jorge and the latter was Jose Ron. Unbelievably, La Fuerza del Destino won over LQNPA as best telenovela. Monte Calvario was done in 1986 and Te Sigo Amando was 1996.

Apparently there were different endings for one or both of the earlier versions. The other bizarre happening, which all of fans know now, is that in the first "disappearance" of Rogelio, he was deathly ill from a lung embolism. He wouldn't quit and they wrote the story around him. He is a Mexican National Treasure and treasure-house, so of course they would do anything to accommodate him. Lucky us. UA is the Caray expert on Jorge Salinas and I defer to her if any of this is incorrect.

It's hard not to feel sorry for Cinthia. She, like Margarito were left to raise themselves. I think Rogelio ignored her growing up, since he was several years older. Once she reached puberty, he didn't know what to do about her except to keep her on a short leash. She certainly had some bad influences in her life, starting with Efrain, then Bruno, then David, and add Vanessa into the mix, even her relationship with Gus was not healthy. Maria wasn't enough to keep her on the right path, especially when Cin exhibited such disdain for those not born of wealth, privilege and strict social class. She's a lost soul in a world outside the hacienda that she knows very little about.

AV
I'm also trying to stay caught up with Amores Verdaderos. In 10 episodes (#95, if they keep to the original numbering), is one of the most romantic scenes in which nothing happens other than Arriaga and Vikki dancing together.

GENERAL

Hi, Daytime Patiomates!

I'm not watching LQLMR, but it sure does sound interesting. I'm still watching "La Vecina" and am enjoying it.

Anon 2:47 on Monday, I watched "El Vuelo de la Victoria" last year on Univision when it came on at 3PM. I stuck with it as it was pretty good story.

LQNPA

Anita, thanks for the background info. Cinthia has been clearly put at a disadvantage by her brother trying to keep her close and protected to the extreme.

LQNPA

Oh, a pox on them all!

:-(

Andy

LQNPA

Good call Andy! Cinthia is now on my you know what list after the snake in the bed.

LQNPA--
Or that Efrain went along with it. There's just nothing likeable about him. He's nothing but a slimy slug in my you know what list.

LQNPA

Anita, Ha! “Slimy slug.” Looks like Cynthis is hot to trot with anything.

I don’t know how far everyone is, but after seeing #125, they all need to be in therapy. “Rogelio está mal“ is an understatement. Yikes!

LQNPA

Jarifa, I don't think therapy would help much.

Efraín and Cynthia both are lost causes. Efraín noted to Cynthia that if they managed to kill Cupcake with the snake, they killed her unborn child as well. This gave him pause, Cynthia not at all, and then he went ahead and attempted it, twice.
And with Ulises, he tried to "defend" Macaria and get Ulises to patch things up with her. So he has a conscience, but then he goes and does rotten things anyway. So he's a slimy slug obsessed with Cynthia who doesn't let his conscience get the better of him.

Cynthia, I think, doesn't even have a conscience, or much self-awareness, self-discipline, or anything really. Nobody home upstairs.

Rogelio is an 18th Century male shrew.

Most of the main characters in this TN are a very sorry lot, except for Cupcake. She could no doubt walk on water if she wanted, but she's just too modest to do so.

So, can she tame the 18th Century male shrew? (not a serious question :)

Andy

LQNPA-
Andy--OR, she could sit for the next Mona Lisa masterpiece.

LQNPA
Who is Cupcake?

Cupcake would be Ana Paula, a moniker that was bestowed on her during the original run. Andy was just reinforcing it for our benefit. She was also known as Dimples, though Rogelio also had canyon-like dimples etched into his craggy cheeks.

LQNPA

Anon 1:34 PM, yeah, Cupcake is Ana Paula, played by Ana Brenda Contreras (ABC as Anita once pointed out).

Anita! Cupcake as Mona Lisa! I love it!

Mona Lisa with her head slightly cocked to one side, closed mouth smile, bright eyes, and Grand Canyon-like dimple. She definitely has this down pat.

Andy

Andy--The head slightly cocked reminds me of what some (well, a lot of) Carayers used to point out to make fun of Maite Perroni as she made her way through tns, carrying over to Triumfo del Amor. Since I didn't see her in anything after TdA, it's hard to tell if she heard us and changed her head position. OTOH, I'd watch ABC in anything (except the second half of Corazon Indomable and none of Lo Imperdomable). I even watched some of that English language "return to Dynasty."
