TELEMUNDO...

"Telemundo announced Kate del Castillo will reprise her role as Teresa Mendoza in a third season of “La Reina del Sur.”

https://www.nbcumv.com/news/telemundo-announces-much-anticipated-third-season-global-hit-super-series-%E2%80%9Cla-reina-del-sur%E2%80%9D?network=33144

100 días

I'll put up a very brief recap tonight.

100 días

Remedios was fairly annoying this whole episode. She starts out ragging on Emi for having put $10K into the crowd-sourcing page. Turns out he didn’t do it.

Max comes to say goodbye to Ramiro on his way to the airport. These two are good together.

Fer does a sort of “trust exercise” with the class in which he says that writing is like falling into the abyss. He falls into his students’ arms. Marta is not best pleased. Meanwhile, the two estranged couples take quick glances at each other: Mariana and Dani and Alex and Lucía.

Carlos asks Pablo why Plutarco is so displeased with him. Don’t think Pablo knows why, but we do. It’s because Carlos is involved in the case with Iván, and Plu behaves like an adolescent with anything to do with Iván.

Plu and Connie are having lunch. Plu is eating Brussels sprouts in an effort to win over Connie.

Gil (the guru) is doing some serious courting of Jimena. Aurora arrives to find him there. She’s aghast. And, after he leaves, she asks Jimena if she’s nuts. Jimena says Aurora must be expecting Luis to marry her, but guys never marry the woman on the side! Jimena also comments that, due to Texas law, it will be 120 days until the divorce is finalized. Jimena ends up offering to pay her to be her assistant. And tells her to ask Tere how happy she is [!!!] working with Jimena.

Fer comes into the diner and is jealous of Carlos. Pablo reminds him that when he was sure of their relationship, Fernando kept doubting.

Gah! Luis is at dinner with Pilar and telling her she’s the love of his life.

We see the Miami “producer” and the “Bad Brothers” cruising Miami in a classic convertible. Later, when having lunch, they find out that the guy has put the three of them into one hotel room.

Iván and Connie are having a “meeting” at some restaurant. He’s asked for her favorite wine. He says he “forgot” the Cuellar case papers at the office, but Yardira, his assistant, is on her way.

Alex had an accident on the scooter Emi gave him and hurt his foot. Reme is beside herself, of course being that way because she’s upset with Emi (for Dulce and others). She and Alex have a heated argument and Reme slaps him. Alex says he’s going to live with Emi.

Plu shows up at the restaurant. I think he thought Connie was meeting Remedios. He’s brought a mariachi band to serenade Connie.

Emi finds his bathroom loaded with Dulce’s creams and sprays. Then she shows up in the bathroom and is all over him. Later, while they eat sushi, he tries to put some distance between them. But she says that he says one thing but his aura says something else! Emi goes to console Plu.

Alex comes to stay with his dad and finds Dulce there. She’s actually pretty good with him.

Plu and Emi get drunk at the restaurant while the mariachi band plays on. I had to laugh when Emi gave one of those gritos. Whether it was planned to be funny or Chacarro, the Argentinian sounds like that when he yells to encourage the mariachis, I don’t know.

Alex wakes up the hung over Emi. Later, when Dulce leaves, Alex tells Emi about being slapped and that probably Emi will get the blame for the moto accident. Emi says he needs an ex-ray and fusses over his son.

Looks like the Bad Brothers signed contracts in Miami without reading them.

Plu hired away Iván’s assistant, Yadira.

TELEMUNDO:

Deb: HORRAY on Kate del Castillo is coming back to reprise her leading role in "La Reina del Sur" for 3rd Season 😃

TELEMINDO

Deb, thanks for the very good news! I cannot wait.

100 dias. Excellent succinct recap, novelera. I still don't trust Carlos, and it's becoming increasingly obvious that the Miami "producer" (right to have the quotation marks, novelera) is some kind of scamster. I suppose Fer is relying on his students' love for him for the trust exercise to end successfully. I was a bit worried that Benjamin would find a way to mess it up--just to be funny in his mean way. Also, even though Marta had a point, I thought she was quite annoying--and before he did the actual exercise, Fer made some very good points about writing literature. Btw, I guess that kind of exercise shows up in some drama classes. I read somewhere that Mariska Hargitay, Olivia Benson in Law and Order SVU, was in that kind of exercise in her first drama class at UCLA, but her classmates didn't catch her--so I guess it can be dangerous. The mariachi episode, though ridiculous, was pretty funny.

100 días

Thanks very much, novelera, for this excellent recap. It's a model of what a really fine short recap should be.

Like you, I was disappointed that Pilar was with Luis. Is she really that desperate for someone to show her affection? Hard to believe.

I was hoping that one of the Bad Brothers would have the good sense to READ the contract they were signing, but of course they didn't. Even after the producer housed the three of them in one room. Sigh.

Apparently Marta's calling Alex by his male name and permitting Lucia and him to go back to classes with no penalty didn't signify a change of heart or personality but simply a wish to avoid a lawsuit or unfavorable publicity. As we see in the scene with Fer, she's still a mindless stickler for rules and conformity.

Like SpanProf, I found the mariachi episode amusing. I also laughed when Iván got up to leave and told Plutarco "you can eat my plate, as always."

100 días

Thanks, Juanita, for mentioning Iván's parting comment to Plu about eating his plate. It was funny but I forgot to include it.

And, SpanProf, thanks for including more details about trust exercises. I had vaguely heard about that being done, but didn't know of a specific example. And scary that that happened to Mariska.

100 días

I'm thinking of something that I mentioned in passing a while back. The reason I was pretty sure that the blonde at the hotel was probably Davíd Chocarro's real wife was the strong Argentinian accent. She also addressed him as vos. Chocarro, like most telenovela stars, manages to speak in a very neutral accent.

In fact, neutral is how several people described my accent when I visited Spain. They said that people from the US usually sound closer to people from Mexico. I was glad I didn't have to use vosotros because I was a stranger in Spain and didn't need to use the informal "you guys" at all!

I also remember an interview I saw with Humberto Zurita about working on achieving Epifanio Vargas' accent. Vargas was, IIRC, supposed to be from Sinaloa and, according to Zurita, people from that state have what he called a Northern accent. It's also the accent you often see in novelas with Mexican narcotraficantes. I would describe it as clipped and colloquial.

100 dias. Excellent observations on accents, novelera. People used to think it was kind of weird that I had a Mexican accent though my specialty was 16th c. peninsular literature, and Mexicans thought my vocabulary was kind of archaic--again probably because my specialty was 16th-c. literature.

telemundo

MANY thanks, deb, for the info about a third season of La Reina del Sur. I was very sceptical about a second season, but/and I was wonderfully surprised by how good it was. It's still the case, though, that I don't trust Telemundo to know when to stop. As long as it's a cash cow, they'll keep milking it. But I'm encouraged that at least some of the people I've enjoyed most will apparently also be in season 3. In addition to Kate, I was very happy to see that Isabella Sierra will be back, as will Humberto Zurita and Lincoln Palomeque (Sanchez Godoy). The announcement also mentioned people I don't remember: Kika Edgar, Emmanuel Orenday, and Dmitry Anisimov. The name Kika Edgar was familiar to me, but I couldn't place her, so I googled and found that she was Romelia Vega in La Doña 2. But I'm not sure who she was in LRDS.

Anyway, thanks very much for the info. I found it ironic, though, that the announcement kept praising Telemundo's wonderful offerings, when in fact starting this coming Tuesday, they're about to be absolutely dreadful. Only two novelas, and one of them is a Turkish novela dubbed into Spanish. :-(

OT:LRDS...
Thanks Deb...
Juanita, Kika Edgar, who played Romelia Vega in La Doña 2 is La Veva(Genoveva Alcala) in LRDS 2... Alejandro's sister. Hoping you remember Alejandro, played by Mark Tacher, Epifanios Campaign manager, undercover FBI...
At least this time They won't bring all new characters, very different from Enemigo Intimo 2, which I know most of the patio isn't watching...

Novelera, I also don't like using vosotros. I prefer Espanól Mexicana

OT..
I think Alejandro in LRDS2 was DEA... Not FBI, sorry. He worked together with Kira(Paola Nuñez)

Telemundo

Thanks, deb, for sharing the (hopefully) good news about LRDS 3.

Juanita, I’m also concerned that they will run this series into the ground. I read that Arturo Perez-Reverte will be involved so perhaps it will be as good as 1 & 2.

Emmanuel Orenday was Danilo, Alejandro’s lover, and Dmitry Anisimov was Anton, Oleg’s right-hand man.

Especially happy to see Isabella Sierra will return. Love Sanchez Godoy. And how can you have Teresa without Epifanio.

Two things I’d like to see in season 3: a father for Sofia and justice for Batman.

telemundo

May thanks, mwendwaE and dondi356, for identifying the actors and their roles in La Reina del Sur 2. I'm glad to hear that they'll all be back for LRDS3. And thanks very much, dondi, for the reassuring news that Arturo Perez-Reverte will again be involved. Rightly or wrongly, I've been under the impression that he did a lot to make the first two seasons artistic as well as commercial successes. So I'm now feeling more hopeful about season 3.

100 dias

Finally caught up. Many thanks to Juanita and novelera for continuing to provide solid recaps.

Not much to say about it. Can’t be sure of anything that’s happened. At the end it’s become a mess, derailed by the pandemic.

All these on again, off again relationships are tiring. Do we really need another season of this?

One thing that perplexed me was the Bad Boys contract signing. There were 3 lawyers at Max’s farewell party. None of them asked if he wanted or had legal advice. Of course, I assumed they all knew the reason he was relocating to Miami. At least, I thought Reme told Connie.

100 días

Good point, dondi, about no one offering to help Max with his recording career, which would, of course, involve signing some sort of contract.

And, yes, it is tiring that the main characters, including the adolescents and those in same sex relationships, keep breaking up over and over again. I fully expect Iván to cause a rupture between Connie and Plu because why introduce Fabián Ríos if not?

Hi everyone,

I put up the new Telemundo y Más page, scheduling it as usual to appear at 8 PM, EDT.
However, it didn't appear. I've just taken a look, and although I set it to appear at 8 PM, it was listed as set to appear at 11 PM!! My guess is that the new interface, which I used for the first time, somehow decided that, since I live on the West Coast, if I said 8 pm, I meant 11 pm EDT. Arrgh! Anyway, I reset the time, and I'm hoping the page will appear in 10 minutes (at 7:30 PDT/10:30 EDT). Keeping fingers crossed.
