PRIMETIME on Univisión (#1): Medicos: Linea de Vida & Como Tú No Hay Dos - Week of Aug.10, 2020
Labels: como-tu, medicos, miedo, primetime
We lost power this afternoon and I have no idea when it will be restored. As soon as it is, I will be back with the highlights of the highlights.
Greetings, Peeps! Regina asks Gonzalo if he’s ever had contact with his family. Regina sees Gonzalo’s hesitance and waves him off, telling him to please not answer. No, neither his wife nor son wants anything to do with him; they want him to know how they felt when he was at the hospital all the time. Well, Regina thinks one day they’re going to realize what a wonderful person he is; he is just an AWESOME PERSON! Gonzalo graciously accepts her praise with a beaming smile but diverts the praise-fest with a suggestion that they get out of the house and play some golf. Off they go! Uh oh! What’s this? Rene and Constanza on the terrace at The club having a morning cup of joe. They spot Regina and Gonzalo on the green just in time to see the two share a happy, celebratory hug that the golf-novice, Regina, did something right! Constanza is surprised; Rene clues her in that the two have “a thing.” {Any peeps who caught the exact snide remark, please chime in! Rene’s look seems worried but he can’t exactly smirk or act gleeful. He shares what he thinks is Gonzalo’s guilt.]
Sunny day in the park with Luis, Susana and Gabriel, showing his Dad up with his game-winning soccer moves; selfies and smiles ensue! Gabriel, observing his ever-smooching parents says he’s so glad to see them happy and not fighting; at one point he thought they were going to separate! The tension is relieved with tickles, giggles and rough-housing! [I’m more concerned about a random big rock in the foreground!]
Daniel gets more advice on luuurve from his Pops: Daniel knows that Tania is ignoring him and seems to feel it’s probably hopeless. Nope, he shouldn’t give up. Daniel has worked hard and is succeeding in his career, but shouldn’t forget love. Love is important, too! Daniel doesn’t seem uptight about this; they take swigs from their beers like a couple of old buds.
Oh, good, Cinthia is feeling better; she and Art are at their favorite restaurant. Yes, this is what she needs, Cinthia declares; to be with him, to spend more time together. She has a great idea: she wants to spend a few days with him at his house! She wants to be at his place, surrounded by his things infused with his special aroma! Well, she can be there, but she must understand that he won’t be there all the time: he’ll be at work! She’s fine with that! They’ll start tomorrow!
Dr. Ana comes in to work to a full OPC, as usual, but seems in a good mood despite the always-packed waiting room. She takes her charts and goes to her office. A woman in the waiting room, Violeta, is in visible distress and asks the Nurse if she will be seen soon: she feels so badly, she has a pain in her leg which has become increasingly warm throughout the night. Eventually Violeta gets in.
Ana listens to her heart and lungs and asks why she hadn’t come in earlier. Violeta thought her pain would get better, but it worsened. Ana turns her back to tend to something. Violeta’s face is pained and she is having trouble breathing. She stands and coughs frank red blood and small clots into her hand! Ana turns when she hears the thud of Violeta hitting the floor. CODE BLUE!! GET DR. PAREDES NOW!!! Staff runs in with the crash cart, Dr. Paredes on his heels; he kneels and after a quick exam and hearing from Ana what happened, makes the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism: blood clot in the lungs. WE HAVE TO GET HER TO THE OPERATING ROOM STAT!!
In another part of the hospital, Rene is in his office looking pensive. Miryea enters, her expression flat, her mannerism formal. She asks, “How can I help you, Doctor.” Bottom line: Miryea is breaking up with Rene. He humiliated her In front of his wife and she told him if he walked out of the door (at her apartment the night of the Scoundrel and The Tramp spaghetti dinner) that she was through. He tries to talk her out of it; even tells her he loves her. Miryea is not having it: “You can’t leave your wifey, then stay with her and be happy!” They are near the door and yelling at this point. As Miryea leaves, a Nurse is passing by. Miryea barks at her, discharging some of her own ire. “What the hell are you doing here? You know perfectly well what area of the hospital you’re needed!”
Regina works at the table in the Doc’s all purpose room. Art enters and sits down. He notices the bruise on her lip. She gives him the quick, matter-of-fact version. He asks when it happened. Day before yesterday in the evening. Regina pushes past his concern to ask how Cecelia is doing. He says she’s better and thanks Regina for her help. Regina bluntly shares that she didn’t know he had a Girlfriend. No, Art doesn’t like to talk about his personal life and things with Cecelia are complicated. Regina agrees it’s hard when someone you love is not well. Regina touches his arm. Art had been looking down but looks up to meet her soft gaze. “Art, she is very lucky to have someone like you.” “You really think so,” he asks? The sadness leaves his eyes and his face warms with a smile. Art expresses his frustration that he didn’t know about Cecelia’s eating disorder. If she didn’t trust him enough to tell him about this problem, then there’s no honesty in their relationship! Regina tells him he is not to blame for any of this, that these kinds of disorders are hard to detect until a crisis like the one Cecelia just had. Art looks sad again, and Regina responds with her honest response. “You love her, you support her, and she’s going to get therapy. She will be fine.” He hopes she’s right. Regina tells him relationships are already complicated, and they are even much more so when one is facing this kind of crisis. “Any other man would have become desperate and exasperated with this problem and ended the relationship, but not you. You always go all out for others.” Once again Art’s sadness is dispersed by a smile which lights his eyes. “That’s my intent,” he says. “Believe me Art, there are not many men like you and Cecelia is VERY fortunate to have you.”
Regina stands, gathers her chart. Art, still seated, looks up at her, smiling quietly. She touches his arm as she leaves, “You are a good man.” Art takes it all in; his tension is replace by a calm satisfaction.
Rafa and Cinthia are casually lounging in the break room. He asks what she’s doing on her day off and suggests some “personal therapy.” “Is everything about sex with you?” Cinthia asks. They BS back and forth. [Any peeps interested in details of what they said, please fill in here.] She declines his therapy. He changes the topic and asks her if she got a load of David the other day; how, when Regina was going to make her statement, he was so intent on taking care of her. Yah, he was very angry, Cinthia allows. Rafa thinks that was strange because David doesn’t usually mess in other people’s business. Rafa deftly flips the conversation to express matters of his own heart. “If anyone ever tried to hurt you, I’d go crazy. You are important to me, Cinthia.” “Yah, me and how many more?” she asks. Undeterred, Rafa’s gaze remains fixed on Cinthia, his face unsmiling but earnest, “I’m serious. If anyone hurt you, I don’t know what I’d be capable of doing.” Rafa has locked her in his gaze; her smirk is gone as she seems to trying to gauge his sincerity. DR CALDERON TO THE ER, DR. CALDERON TO THE OR!! They’re off!
Letl’s do this comeuppance for Marco quickly. He learns from a crowing, high-fiving Diego and Pamela that they have seen REAL PATIENTS: Diego in the OR and Pamela with a woman suffering from generalized anxiety, Dr. Molina’s Girlfriend to be exact. Marco can’t believe it and ties into them derisively about how he graduated from the most prestigious PRIVATE school in the country; he’s obviously better than them and he’s not seeing real patients! Pam asks him why he is so aggressive and tells him he’s got an attitude problem that is keeping him from advancing. Diego quips that his parents paid all that money just for him to keep being an IDIOT! Marco looks like he wants to jump Diego; Pam keeps them apart.
Uh oh! Tania’s late, looking breathlessly for Dr. David Paredes! BUSTED! Regina tells her Dr. Paredes was in early this morning and she was supposed to be shadowing him in the OPC today…yah…go look for him!! Regina looks at Pamela and tells her they are going to see Ines today and try to convince her to make a statement denouncing her son as her assailant. Other than that, she just has a report to prepare for Dr. Olmedo. They’re off! Later we see Tania asking an OPC Nurse where David is. The Nurse seems really excited to have had some medical drama in the OPC. A woman had a complicated problem, Dr. Paredes was here and they rushed the patient off to the OR! Tania groans, feeling herself sinking in deep doo!
Sensitivity Alert David, and, surprisingly Ana, are scrubbed and gowned in the OR examining an x-ray of the patient’s lungs. Violeta had a fractured femur and was immobilized for a couple of months. She developed a clot in her leg, a fragment of which broke off and went into her lungs (pulmonary embolism) which is life-threatening. They are going to remove the deadly clot! Ana says Violeta is very lucky to have come to the Instituto and have David treat her! Rafa, attending to Violeta’s respiratory needs looks over at Ana and asks why she scrubbed up for the surgery instead of leaving the patient in David’s hands? Ana snaps back that she’s doing this for the patient! David calls Rafa down; it’s okay that Ana is present and interested in following her patient. The surgery starts and we get a graphic shot inside the patient’s body cavity. Long story short, the clot is successfully removed. Ana observes how fast that was! David replies; that’s how we do it! Ana overflows with praise on what a great surgeon he is; thanks to David, Violeta can live a normal life. Not just anybody could do what David just did! Rafa looks at them both, David stares above his mask at Ana, his eyes seem to say, “Calm Down!” Let’s finish with them. Much later, at the end of the work day, Ana and David continue debriefing about the surgery. She tries to bond with him by connecting with the marvels of the human body and the unique perspective of seeing a patient, literally, from the inside. Yes, the body is a perfect machine, David observes, that one can go in, do what is needed, and restore it to its proper functioning. Ana thanks David for his support and is so effusive in her praise; she physically expresses it with an affectionate punch which David observes with a cute little smile of pain. Ana is thrilled, David is cool. They take off for hamburguesas! [Sounds more exotic and yummy, no?]
Luz has rare good news for Gonzalo: Foundation Ponce de Leon is going to make the donation needed to buy the dialysis machine!!! Gonzalo shows Luz the comprehensive reports from each department of the hospital that will be presenting in a meeting, maybe with The Board of Directors or a healthcare auditing firm. [Peeps, please feel free to chime in.] But, she has bad news. Luckily, it’s something Gonzalo has already heard; Regina being struck by a patient’s son. She made a statement to the MP but he can only be held longer than three days if the patient’s son, the abuser, makes a statement. [Thanks, Anon, for that information on Friday’s blog!!] Luz assures Gonzalo that the authorities are on top of the situation as they CANNOT let this happen again!!
Oh, no! Diego’s medical pilfering habit is way out of hand! Art finishes seeing a patient and leaves Diego with a health care Tech of some sort after asking him to do his medical supply report. Diego actually snatches supplies right off the cart and slides them into the pocket of his white coat while the Tech’s back is turned!! He gets her to leave the cart with him; he’ll note the supplies they used and take the remainder to the supply room. Later, Pamela almost busts him in the locker room transferring the supplies from his white coat to his back pack. Who, me, acting strange? No, he’s just nervous, this is so much pressure following the doctors and wanting to do everything so perfectly.
Pamela buys it and leaves. Diego heaves a sigh of relief. [One day some of that ish is going to drop out of your back pack, little man, and it will be curtains for your medical career!]
Tania finally catches up with Dr. Daniel Paredes after the surgery. She tries to apologize but he digs her out for her absence. “Look, If you can’t complete your duties, then leave this space for a person who really wants to be a Doctor!” Tania runs after David. Perdoname, she calls, breathless! “Perdoname? Is that what you’re going to tell a family when their loved one dies?” She says she was just trying to explain what happened that morning. “You know what; your excuses are more and more meaningless to me! You’re sorry? This is the only profession that doesn’t allow us to say we’re sorry. We are absolutely responsible for all our errors and nobody or nothing else is going to take care of those for us! “If you couldn’t anything in the OR today, at least learn THAT!” Tania is stricken but presses on, calling after David as he strides away. “Can I go with you?” David comes back, looks at her sternly. “No, you’re not going to do anything with me! Take the day to analyze whether it’s better to be a Doctor, to do nothing, to arrive late or be mediocre!” He turns and leaves . Tania’s face is flushed and eyes filled with tears. There is a sweet scene later when Daniel finds her outside trying to recover from her verbal smack down. She tells him what happened and what hurts is that it was deserved and she’s angry at herself. “I’m a disaster!” she declares. He tries to lift her up: she is a wonderful person and a wonderful Doctor; she’s pretty and charismatic, she’s fun, she makes people smile and she’s good with patients. Tania does seem relieved and they agree a beer after work would really hit the spot. She hugs him; he asks where she’s going. “I’m going to see David. I think I have the answer to his question.” Daniel seems to feel good he helped Tania, not goofily in awe of her. Good.
Two quick Rafa scenes. Silly Daniel asking for the next step in his pursuit of Tania. Rafa says something about alternating ignoring with paying detailed attention to the girl, you know, like in fishing: catch and release; catch and release! Later, outside, Silly Lili reminds Rafa she’s ripe for the picking. She wanted to talk to him outside because she doesn’t want people to gossip about them like they do about Regina and Dr. Olmedo! Hasn’t he heard? They’ve got a thiiiing going oooooon! Rafa is unimpressed and tells her it’s all lies and not to believe everything she hears. Anyway, she doesn’t want Miryea to see them talking because she’s capable of making up any kind of lie! Message transmitted. Rafa looks after her like low-hanging fruit.
Sensitivity Alert. Finally, Regina, Pam, and Luz (Hospital Social Worker) go to see Ines. Regina introduces Pamela and Luz and leaves them to their work. Again, although she looks better, is off the ventilator and even oxygen. Ines truly looks injured and the actress transmits the emotional anguish and fear she feels as Pam and Luz skillfully but sensitively convince her to denounce her son to the MP. Ines, of course, protests that he is really a good man; the alcohol is the villian. They even show an abbreviated scene of the attack, most of which takes place in the kitchen away from the camera. We can painfully imagine what happened. Luz and Pamela tag team in their intervention. What seals it for Ines is that he could not only hurt her, but others. If he does time for this near fatal attack, he will likely get five years, but he could get treatment and rehabilitation which could help him rebuild his life. If he hurts her again, it could be fatal and he could spend more than twenty years of his life in prison. They convince her that what feels like betrayal is actually another act of love that she has always shown her son, despite his problems. Ines takes Luz hand, “Yes, I will do it. I will denounce him as you have asked.”
Jarifa: Here are my two cents on last night's episode:
1.) Vengeful Ric still an uppity jackass, telling Natalia to leave & don't ever come back.
2.) Damian enjoying his powertrip as President of the Reyes Alonzo Company, etc., more embezzlement schemes.
3.) Plastic Barbie seeing Claudia & Dora making out.
Lila, an excellent recap. I thought it far better than the not particularly pivotal episode last night.
"the Scoundrel and The Tramp spaghetti dinner" was perfect.
"The tension is relieved with tickles, giggles and rough-housing!" Yes, it appears this marriage was saved. However, with this much happiness on the homefront can a storm be far behind?
"Once again Art’s sadness is dispersed by a smile which lights his eyes". He is a good guy but Cecilia is not his match.
"Rafa has locked her in his gaze; her smirk is gone as she seems to trying to gauge his sincerity" could not have described that scene better. We always want what we can't get, don't we? I'd believe him a bit more if I hadn't seen him eyeing Lily as he "looks after her like low-hanging fruit". Sigh.
"Ana thanks David for his support and is so effusive in her praise; she physically expresses it with an affectionate punch which David observes with a cute little smile of pain" made me smile. I think David told Tania the truth and hopefully her tardiness will be a wake up call for him.
Like Rafa with his increasingly careless drug abuse, Diego is also tempting fate.
"Daniel seems to feel good he helped Tania, not goofily in awe of her. Good". Perhaps her recent dressing down will cause her to be kinder and more considerate of him.
I was very impressed with Pamela as she and Ines worked together seamlessly to help Ines. Like so many victims, she is not thinking of herself, only her wretched son. Very difficult to watch.
Lila, thank you for bringing this to us so vividly.
Diana
Before I start to read Lila's gem I thought this might interest Carayers.
I was listening to a segment on NPR on Sunday and they were talking about the comeback of the telenovela in Mexico. Most of it due to hunkering at home during the pandemic. They reported that Gran Final episode Te Doy La Vida, garnered the largest share of viewers in many years.
They also commented on how the producers and directors and actors are coping with churning out new episodes. Apparently the actors sit around a room and practice their lines with their masks on. There is no more kissing in practice or otherwise. They wear their masks on set and only take them off during filming and definitely no more sex scenes. I guess Medicos already had some of the scenes in the can.
That was quite the reprimand from David to Tania!! But it appears to be the wake-up call she needed. David was right, she needs to start taking things seriously.. I mean, she was taking naps while Daniel did her work for her..
So no one was attending the clinic since Ana decided to join David in the surgery?? O...k lol
Anita - Médicos concluded filming before restrictions were put in place. They finished filming in February and in March is when stay at home orders/restrictions/etc started to get implemented
Thanks Ms. LILA. I loved how you described the back and forth between Regina and Arturo, and also the back and forth between Ana and David. I think we're going to see a lot more of those teeter-totter, eyes locked, lips smiling scenes. 'Twill be fun
And oh my, our wee nurse and barracuda anesthesiologist.... "Rafa looks after her like low-hanging fruit."
Oh boy, low-hanging, fresh and juicy. Right out of the packing box. Don't want to see that.
Will look forward to getting around to viewing this episode at dinner time. But delighted to hear that nasty Mireya gave nasty René the brush off. Alas, he'll probably be able to reel her back in. Too much at stake money-wise not to.
This has become a guilty pleasure in your capable hands. So glad that you are back with us, amiga.
Lila, thank you for another excellent , detailed retelling.
I can't watch the scenes with Ines...too painful.
The actress who collapsed has been in many telenovelas. The one I remember most fondly is her role as a madam in Alborada.
Regina is really a sweet, caring soul. No wonder both David and Art are smitten ...but David doesn't have a girlfriend .
Is Sergio going to sudden!y pop up and surprise Regina and us one of these days when we least expect it ?
OT...I thought you all could use a positive real life story ...I ran into a friend today who is making masks and asking for donations for them which she then gives to the local food bank .
Lili, muchas gracias. This TN is better than I thought it would be, but your recaps are hitting it out of the ball park.
Ana snaps back that she’s doing this for the patient! David calls Rafa down; it’s okay that Ana is present and interested in following her patient.
I prefer the brittle Ana. This gushy Ana mooning over David is about as annoying as needy Cecilia. Ana is "interested in following her patient alright" -- if David is in the mix.
I'm disappointed in Lili. Silly girl passes to the rest of the nurses Mireya's planted gossip about Regina. Boo on you, Lili.
ITA Pamela did a good job with Luz persuading Ines. I give her an "A" on bedside manner.
Great stuff,
All my thoughts have been expressed here already. Of the four residents Pamela has the best shot at a future and I agree that she should consider psychiatry. Monica Miguel is doing a great job as Ines.
I don't think Mireya and Rene are finished yet; it's too early. Also, this series was green-lit for a second season.
Diana! Thanks, Hon! I agree with you about the episode, and this was supposed to be a Reader's Digest Version (RDV) but I don't seem to know when to shut up! Oh, well!
Art fans, your man was absolutely gorgeous in with his smile and even his sadness. Yah, he is defnitely easy on the eys!
And David got Tania tod, didn't he! Between what could have been a fatal-internet-date gone wrong and her triple dress-down by David, she is another one that needs to straighten up or their medical career wil go ka-plooey! Her for being a slacker, Diego for stealing. Pamela's the only one on track! And yes, Diana, she was so good working with Ines. I thought Regina would lead the questioning, but her and Luz were perfect!
Anita! This so interesting about Novelas in the time of COVID! Wow! Unbelieveable. Medicos is probably not going to be a big draw for the same reason I and many others hesitated. So COVID is going to end up "cleaning up" the scenes, hunh?
SpanProf Thanks! Yah, Tania should have known David would not be the one to suffer her slacker ways. If she didn't know, she does now! ITA about Pamela. She was great with Ines, and she didn't need a notebook!
UnOP Ditto on Tania. Girl need to straigten up and fly right! And Ana. Right? Who was in the clinic? I was just as surprised as Rafa to see her scrubbed up for the surgery. It was funny how Rafa seemed to be trying to shoo Ana away from David!
Judy! Judy! Judy! Hi! Thank you so much. You know I'm Team David, but Art seemed so vulnerable last night. Poor guy does try hard with Ceceilia and now she wants to hang out at his crib and inhale his sweaters or something. He's going to have to demonstrate a lot of patience! I think she's trying to lasso him in with dependence. He's going to need therapy, too!
JudyB. My gosh. None of knew what was coming when the clock chimed midnight on December 31, 2019. This has become quite the year, hasn't it! I'm glad to be back. Y'all just keep giving me tips on how to be more pithy in my retelling!
Susanlynn, Thanks, Hon! I hope my warnings are helpful on Ines. Those scenes are altogether too much. Oh, yes, damned well done: that's the trouble. I try to summarize them quickly.
Regina IS sweet and she may be used to come-ons, but I don't think she realizes how much that little talk she had with Art could really grab his heart! He hung on her every word. And when she stood to leave, go back and look at his face as he look up at her. Yah. Smitten so deeply, he may not even realize it!
Love your positive story, Susanlynn! God Bless her!
That IS a great story, SUSANLYNN. Mine is not as creative, but I've saved a ton of money since February cutting and coloring my hair myself, and I just pass that on to the Food Banks. Figure I'll be able to send in regular checks for sometime, since this plague isn't going away anytime soon.
Muchas gracias, de verdad! Niecie! HA HA! Yah, Ana has turned in to giggly teeny-bopper fan girl! It's hilarious! Oh, but wait until she figures out that David is head over heels with Regina! You'll have to add her to the line up of people waiting to rub Regina out: Sergio and Leo!
Yah, Lili. She is sooo achin' for a heart breakin'!
Thanks, Urban! Green-lit for a second season! YIKES! *Gulp!* Ok. That means a lot of heart ache ahead and people ending up with the wrong folk before they get with the ones we want!
Agree with all the comments and the kudos for our Medical Observer Extraordinaire, Ms Lila (always focused). This would be a less than great tn without her.
Here's my only take-away: Enough of that MAN-BUN, Tania. We had to suffer through Agustin in Te Doy La Vida with that horrid flat hair-do. And we had to suffer through Soggy Pao in Me Declaro Culpable--and they were men. We have so many other pony tails flitting around, one more wouldn't hurt.
Bring on the next episode.
Diego is heading for big trouble.
Lili is heading for a bowl full of low-hanging fruit-salad.
Marco is getting primed for a verbal take-down from somebody--anybody, please?
Rafa is going to mess up an anesthesia sooner or later (hope it's later and it's reversible).
Art is going to get tired of "being there" for Cecelia.
Daniel is going to get his heart broken.
David is going to keep his distance romantically from Regina until we're at least 66 2/3 done with the show.
Mireya will get sucked back into Rene's fish net for the money--or she'll take revenge on Constanza.
Pamela will win some prizes, but none of the boys.
Luis is experiencing too much happiness.
Gonzalo and Regina are going to be the talk of the ER--and how will they deal with it.
We haven't seen the last of Leo or Sergio.
Anita! Gracias!!
Girl, you laid it out! Here's the one I'm dreading:
David is going to keep his distance romantically from Regina until we're at least 66 2/3 done with the show.
Here's another: I know geriatric couples are probably not faves, but I feel Aurora is going to come roaring back! They have talked about her in every one of the past five episodes! I hope she's not a witch!
See y'all in the morning, Lord willing!

Tina and Adán move back to their old place. She admits she will miss staying at his parents’ home. She tries to convince Adán to make up with his mom. He accuse her of doing the lawyering for his mother. Tina just thinks that his mother is full of surprises and could make their lives interesting. They agree to go over to his parents’ house to thank them for their hospitality. He will meet her there.

Felix accuses him of really being afraid. Toño makes it clear the only thing he is afraid of is ending up like Felix. He will also talk anyway he wants to Felix. He deserves that for selling his brother. Why did he do it? He warns Felix to not come looking for it because he will give it to him.
Felix refuses to be intimidated saying he feels like tracking Luchita down because he knows she is going to go looking for Socorro the midwife. He explains it will be hard to find Socorro anyway because the hacienda belonged to Sofía herself. Luchita will never be able to match up the last names. Felix is sure Luchita will end up forgiving both of them or him.Toño suggests that if he really loves her, he should just leave her alone to lead her own life. Felix says one of the few good things that ever happened to him in his life was finding Luchita. If things don’t get worked out between them he will be leaving her in peace . . . forever. (YIKES)
Claudio meets with Ric and chews him out for al of the terrible things he supposedly did to run his firm into the ground. Ric is surprised and has no answers. He goes to leave because he wants to find out what he “did.” Claudio adds he doesn’t trust him. Ric says maybe he isn’t capable of anything or maybe he lost his memory and found good and simple people who loved him for who he was without questioning him. There are people who are happy just knowing he is alive and loving him with him being maybe a waiter . . . Claudio thinks he needs to go back to his psychiatrist and informs him that he is putting Claudio in charge of everything. Ric thinks that Damián is turning out to be the better son between the two of them. Maybe Claudio should adopt him, too.
In Pueblo Viejo, Veracruz, Dora visits Socorro who is very ill. Her godson Trini kicks her bed to awaken her. Socorro wanted to talk to her about the child Claudio took to pass off as Sofía’s son. Dora explains that she was told that the child’s mother had died in childbirth and the father didn’t want the child. Dora tells her how Felix found them in Mexico City and started asking them for money right away. She asks Socorro if somebody else knows about this situation. Socorro tells her that the baby had a twin brother. Dora is upset saying that if she knew he had a twin, she never would have separated them. Socorro says it was because Felix only wanted to sell one. Dora felt guilty before and now feels absolutely miserable knowing this. Socorro says that is why she had to talk to her before dying. Also, by the way, the mother didn’t die in childbirth. That is the only way Felix would agree to the deal.
Tina brings a jello mold over to Amelia’s. Mayo says Amelia taught him how to make those, too, and is going to make one for his grandpa. Amelia has a carrot jello mold for her. Adán arrives and throws a fit. He found a sexy poster advertising Amelia as “La Pastora” at the club.
Everyone is shocked. As a hypocritical Adán rages on, Amelia, Fabi and Tina remind him of his own shortcomings. Still in the end he insists that the “flama divina” no longer exists for him. Amelia is heartbroken.
Carlo gets the update from Damián as to how Claudio took the “bad news”. He almost had a heart attack. They gloat over their successful deception. The original balance sheets will be kept in a safe. Damián will use the false ones. Carlo will be in charge of making sure all of the money that Claudio thinks he lost ends up in Damián’s new company’s account. A shocked Nati has heard it all hidden at the door.
Felix pays a sad Mariana a visit and finds out that Germán went with Luchita to Veracruz. She blames him for Germán going off with Luchita . If Felix didn’t mistreat Luchita, she wouldn’t be out looking for something better. Felix is not happy and tells her what happens between him and his wife is only his business and not hers. Nobody cheats on him without paying for it.
Ric tells Crucita that this mess at the company was Toño’s fault. He wants Crucita to find him because he wants to talk to him. He gives him an address to bring Toño to. He doesn’t want Crucita to refer to Toño as his brother.
Nati tells Damián that she Is ready to take him up on his offer and wants to get back with him.
Being able to watch this last night was a nice treat after a 28 hours with no power resulting in having to empty refrig/freezer. If only this were OnDemand so I could see Monday’s capítulo.
We really are moving now with Dora and Luchita hightailing it to Veracruz. Germán was a real weasel for not being honest going to Veracruz w/Luchita with Mariana. This looks like it will finally be it for her.
It looks like Felix has no intention of ever letting Luchita go.
What is Fede supposed to be sick with or was it always a ruse to get closer to Sol???
Jarifa, again, I am befuddled to people and events transpiring in this but I was greatly comforted by "Tina brings a jello mold over to Amelia’s".
It's nice to know that comfort food is still a staple in the lives of our TN characters.
Very well written as always Jarifa! It's always a pleasure reading any of your recaps.
Diana
I am having a medical procedure tomorrow so will be away for a few days.
Any and all prayers/good thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Diana
Diana! Absolutely, I lift you up in prayer and send positive vibes your way! May everything go perfectly now and going forward. You take care, honey!
Good morning, Peeps! Sesnsitivity Alert right out of the gate, with Ines telling Luz she will denounce her son as her assailant. Luz and Pamela reassure Ines that she has done the right thing and what is best for her son. Pamela tells her she is brave and they outline the next step for her: talking to the MP. Ines does with Luz present. It is excruciatingly painful for her but Pamela, Cinthia and Regina enter the room as soon as the MP leaves and lift her up with affirmations of her bravery and comforting reassurances that they will always be there for her. She must recuperate now. Luz grasps all of their hands in tearful gratitude as they leave the room. Once outside, Luz thanks them and the senior Doctors, Cinthia and Regina, allow Pamela to decompress. It was so hard but they rightly tell her she did an excellent job. Pamela tearfully says she learned a lot, but they don’t teach you this kind of thing in school. Cinthia hugs Pamela lightly. Regina agrees, adding that the crises that people face will be many and varied, but what matters is to be prepared for whatever comes. Regina sends Pamela off to get something to eat.
Rene finishes a call to the representative of the medical supply company paying him kickbacks to be the Instituto’s main supplier of medical equipment. He demands they deposit the check immediately, or he’ll get another provider. Gonzalo enters the office; Rene thinly veils his annoyance but manages to act please when Gonzalo tells him about the donation for the dialysis machine. Gonzalo credit’s the very positive op-ed for persuading one of their major supporters. He asks Rene to look for a machine and Rene suggests they buy a cheaper one. Gonzalo rejects this immediately. Absolutely not, the generous donation was for the machine only, and they’re going to use that money to get the best machine possible.
Ana and David are having breakfast. David invites Regina to sit down. She doesn’t have time’ she’s on her way to the Board meeting. Ana chirps that she’s going to the same meeting. Regina says, then, let’s go. David asks if she’s seen the apartment. Yes, she has and she’s going to take it. She thanks him and she says he’s glad to support her. Ana is attentive to this interchange. Later, as they leave the cafeteria, Ana quizzes David about his relationship with Regina. He helped her find an apartment; she must really trust you. David insists his and Regina’s relationship is totally professional and their conversations based on work. Ana weirdly asks why doesn’t Regina’s husband help her; isn’t she married? David says he believes so. Believes so? David maintains that he is not interested in Regina’s personal life. Ana thinks that’s why the two of them make such a great team! [Oh, David; demerits for this blatant lack of candor, not so much as with Ana, but with yourself.]
Rene tries to corner Miryea in the supply room to get her back. She blocks him. FF>>
Tania is waiting for David when he returns to his office. Yes, she wants to be a Dr. He allows her to sit in on his next OPC appointment. He calls the patient in, Tania sits quietly behind the patient. In a much later scene, Tania tells Pamela about David’s smackdown and her determination from now on to meet his expectations and much more! Daniel enters the room and lends his support.
The big meeting with the Institut’os Board of Directors takes place with Sr. Santiago, The Chairman, at the head of the table. Luz reports that, thanks to Gonzalo’s efforts, the donation was secured for the dialysis machine. Rene wants to ask Foundation Ponce de Leon for more money for more machines or for maintenance costs of those they have. If the first donor gives more, this will make it easier for the others to fall in line. Luz thinks this would be abusive. Gonzalo agrees. He thinks they should carefully apportion the donation from the Foundation and the Government must prioritize and support healthcare. Ana says the system is collapsing. [Help here, Peeps. Don’t know if she means the Government or the health care system.] Gonzalo says that is precisely why they have to ask for help only when they need it and exercise more responsible budget management. To that point, Gonzalo invites Regina to describe the carefully executed and successful supply auditing system the ER is following. She does so, emphasizing that this will not negatively impact patient care, but rather give the administration an exact accounting of how much supplies are being used. Santiago asks for a report and underlines the importance for the Instituto, as a government supported medical facility, to be absolutely transparent about the private donations it receives. Then Rene and Miryea’s concocted shitload hits the fan:
“Gonzalo, it is evident that you’ve done an excellent job and you understand this subject very well and I’m also pleased that you have found an opportunity to be happy. This is reflected in this excellent work and your improved demeanor on the job.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m sorry and I don’t mean to be indiscreet, but it is known that you and Regina are having an affair.”
There is stunned silence. So far out in left field is this that Regina doesn’t even react; anger and shock are dawning on Gonzalo’s face; Luz’s jaw hits the floor and Ana is looking quietly smug.
Now, this is THE BOMB. Or, at least A bomb. I kinda want to get the minor players out of the way and give this more attention. What else was going on this morning that Rene tried to flush Gonzalo’s good work down the crapper?
Rafa tells Cinthia about the rumors, Cinthia shoots them (and his never-ending flirting) down: Regina moved out of her house and Gonzalo simply gave her a place to stay for a few days. Ceceliafixes dinner for Art thinking this will show him she’s all better and doesn’t need therapy. She whines; he convinces her she MUST have therapy. She interprets this as something she’s doing for him and suggests he treat her as if she’s one of his patients so that, with his love and support, she can heal during therapy. Marco flops down at the dinner table and his Dad gives him another tough-love-suck-it-up talk about how he needs to take what is allotted him and show he’s superior by making the most of it Dad makes it clear that his continued support is contingent on this! Tania and Daniel have a beer. Tania describes what feels like medical hazing in Residency. She asks why he went into Pediatrics. He loves to help people, and cannot stand to see them suffer. She likes his response, “Eres un amor,” she tells him with an affection clasp of his face between her hands. They agree they like hanging out together.
Later in the day. Diego sends his lifted medical supplies to his village then calls his Mom on the phone to alert her. He is crying as he talks to her, reassuring her that these are surplus supplies, the Instituto has SO MUCH. He will send more, he asks she greet everybody. Daniel and his Dad do their weekly shopping for the restaurant. Paco dispenses his love advice in-between floating his idea about an even bigger, more layered TORTA. Daniel says things are moving between him and Tania, but they’re not at the point to invite her to the house. Caro’s Dad talks to her about being careful while vacationing with her friends; she promises she will check in and absolutely let them know if she needs anything.
Now, back to Rene’s first overt act of sabotaging Gonzalo’s Directorship. Santiago asks Gonzalo what is going on. Gonzalo says he does not have any relationship with Regina! Santiago says that is none of his business, but if it affects the decisions he makes in the hospital, then he’ll have to do something. Gonzalo shoots back that everything he does is for the good of the hospital. Regina speaks up; there is NOTHING between her and Gonzalo! There relationship is strictly professional and her promotion to Director of the ER was based on merit alone. Rene tries to lightly say he didn’t mean to cause any confusion; he’s just happy to see they are together. Regina, looking directly at Rene says there is no need for confusion. “You want an explanation? I’ll very happily give you one!”
Gonzalo tries to stop her, but Regina asks him to please allow her. “No, let’s clear this up once and for all. “ Ana asks, “What is it you think we need to know?” Regina keeps looking at Rene. “I am divorcing; I left my house and the only this Gonzalo has done is to give me somewhere to stay until I found somewhere to live. Is that clear?” she asks Rene. Gonzalo is silent, Ana smirks and seems to want to laugh.
Luz says Regina does not have to explain anything. Regina states, “Gonzalo does not deserve to have his decisions called into question because of my personal problems.” Ana says, “Gonzalo has protected you so much, it makes me believe what Rene is saying.” Gonzalo erupts from his silence, “For God’s sake! You of all people should know that the effort I exert for the ER, I exert for the OPC as well and all the areas of the hospital. This Institute can only function if we all work evenly.” Rene makes a phony effort to apologize, he meant no harm or to make anybody uncomfortable. Regina is gracious. She looks at Rene, “You did not make us uncomfortable. This process we are going through has not been easy for any of us; believe me, I am not going to let this affect my work. Santiago regroups: “Now that this has been cleared up, can we move past this subject and continue? Again, your personal lives are not my concern but they cannot affect your work.” Regina answers, looking directly at Santiago with an air of professionality and certainty. “You can be assured that this will not happen and my area will continue functioning without problems.” Ana’s and Rene’s demeanor are one big shrug. Gonzalo is quietly pissed.
Santiago refocuses the group on the need to have a contingency plan for Instituto operations as there may be cuts coming to healthcare facilities across the board. Santiago understands that they are still trying to come out from under the budgetary burden from the lawsuit, but this is a challenge the whole country is facing. The Doctors are all concerned about the ability to deliver quality care to a population that already struggles just to pay for basic Doctor’s visits. Santiago acknowledges that they are a specialty hospital that delivers tertiary care. Precisely, Gonzalo observes, but if people don’t get the care and procedures they need in a timely manner in the small clinics and hospitals (primary care), those people end up sicker and at the Instituto’s door! “You can cut the budget to public hospitals, but illnesses will not disappear! Healthcare has to be integral!” Santiago understands; he just wanted them not surprised when the cuts come. The meeting ends. Rene tries to ask Regina’s and Gonzalo’s pardon for his “misunderstanding.” Gonzalo tells Rene’s his comments were way out of line. Rene tries to touch him; Gonzalo jerks back looking Rene dead in the eye. [Rene may be taller, but I’m sure Gonzalo could put his lights out with one punch.] Rene continues his phony apology. Regina tells him it’s okay, don’t worry. He tells her he is sorry for what she is going through; if she needs anything, just let him know, like an advance on a couple of pay checks. Regina graciously declines. [Too graciously, but then, being innocent, she has no reason to be angry and indignant.] Rene leaves. Regina calls to Gonzalo, he asks her if she is okay. Yes, she’ll see him later.
It is later now, at Gonzalo’s. Regina in her fluffy robe, dinner apparently is done. Gonzalo jokes about his bad cooking compared to Aurora’s. Regina apologizes for getting Gonzalo mixed up in her problems. If she means what Rene said, don’t pay him any attention; he’s an idiot! She can’t believe her problem with Sergio came to haunt her at a meeting of the Instituto Advisory Council. If Sergio hadn’t cheated on her, none of this would have happened! Here it played out; right in front of Santiago Mentesinos and it didn’t have to happen! Gonzalo answers that it did! It did and she’s got to move past it! She tells Gonzalo she’s found an apartment. He asks her not to leave if it’s because of all this mess. No, not at all! Regina appreciates everything he’s doing for her; opening his home, cooking for her: she’s grateful and will never forget, but she needs her own space. “If I admired you as a Doctor, I admire you even more as a friend.” Regina grasps his arm, they smile. [Platonic and paternal, you dirt bag, Rene!]
Perla [aka Random Chick] stops by the gym to interrupt David in his boxing in front of the mirror workout to spread her pheromones so she can do the same with her extremities later. David lets her know that things are complicated with his love-from-a-distance. Things aren’t complicated with Perla. Shall we? He accepts her invitation but doesn’t look the least bit turned on.
The next morning, Regina meets her Lawyer in The Coffee Shop. Sergio is refusing to receive the divorce papers Regina signed. [Please chime in if I got this wrong either in the Spanish or the legal process.] Sergio’s refusal will not stop the proceedings, it will just be presented to the Judge that he refused to do so (acting in rebellion?) Regina sighs that she just wants to be done with Sergio, not to have more problems with him! The Lawyer leaves; Cinthia comes and takes a seat. Regina tells Cinthia about Sergio’s refusal dragging the divorce out and causing other problems. Regina tells her about Rene’s bold accusation at the Advisory Council meeting. Cinthia admits she’d heard the gossip. Why didn’t she tell Regina? Because she knew it was a crazy lie; she also tells Regina that she thinks Mireyea started it. Walking back to the hospital Regina discuss the fullness of the disgust of the rumor: that she slept with Gonzalo to get the Directorship of the ER! Regina tells Cinthia that this is not over; Miryea is going to hear from her! Sergio’s infidelity is the cause of all these problems, Regina declares!
Luz comes to tell Gonzalo that the Five million peso check for the lawsuit has been paid but this scene is oddly left hanging. Finally, Ana, walking with David, cuts to the chase: Did he know Regina was divorcing. He looks away; he doesn’t like to meddle in other’s affairs. Well, she’s just following up on their conversation in the cafeteria. Is he really uninterested in Regina?
Sublime Lila. Simply sensational.
"Cinthia hugs Pamela lightly. Regina agrees, adding that the crises that people face will be many and varied, but what matters is to be prepared for whatever comes". So touching to see Luz and the doctors rallying around Ines. Heart, intelligent and kind, all.
"Perla [aka Random Chick] stops by the gym to interrupt David in his boxing in front of the mirror workout to spread her pheromones so she can do the same with her extremities later" had me laughing and my very favorite line of many.
"Rene thinly veils his annoyance". He is reprehensible.
"Oh, David; demerits for this blatant lack of candor, not so much as with Ana, but with yourself.]". Couldn't agree more!
"Rene tries to corner Miryea in the supply room to get her back. She blocks him. FF>>". I literally cannot stand to watch either of them.
"She likes his response, “Eres un amor,” she tells him with an affection clasp of his face between her hands". I can't believe I'm saying this but it was my favorite moment of the night. Tania is a bit more humble, a bit more feeling. I see these two as truly becoming friends. More? I'm not sure.
So detailed and full of the insight and humor you so greatly possess Lila.
Thank you to you, Steve and Susanlynn for your well wishes.
Diana
Diana, thanks for taking the time to read the recap. These days it just seems easier to write a recap rather than highlights. Go figure! I got a kick out of the fact that jello molds/salads were so popular even with young people in countries other than the good old USA where they seem to have fallen into bad esteem and taste for some reason unknown to me.You see many recipes for them on YouTube from other countries.
Steve, I would say almost all of the characters are stupid in telenovelalandia some time.
Not sure if this is considered OT but it was just announced that the actress who plays Inés - Mónica Miguel - passed away early this morning.
Diana, I just went grocery shopping this morning. At least the outage made me clean the refrig and freezer. ;) Take good care and know I am sending good thoughts and prayers your way. We will be awaiting your return!
Susanlynn, this was a storm called a “derecho” ( which in Spanish means straight ahead) characterized by extremely strong and fast winds that blow straight ahead. Nevertheless, this one also spawned a few errant tornadoes. It moved through extremely quickly and split trees, blew down huge branches and even uprooted trees that were not well grounded. Unfortunately, power outages are not rare in my Neck of the woods but they usually don’t last as long as this did.
Hi, Diana thank you so much! I was so disappointed in David! He's all Dr. Tell it like it is regardless of who or what and he lied to Ana like that. He professes his care for her the other day in the MPs office and then denies it to Ana, trying to act all nonchalant. And to claim that he didn't know whether or not Regina was married? Oh, David. You let me down, man!
Ooops, I see in your quote I should've said "affectionate clasp..." Anyway, Tania is not a bad person and we know Daniel is a fine man and who knows how he could flourish if he and his parents could stretch the symbiotic bonds of their symbiotic relationship.
Diana, my Dear, thank you for your always thoughtful responses! I know I definitely feel seen when you respond. You take care of yourself and we'll see you on the Patio when you feel like it. Please take care and stay safe, Amiga!
TF! Oh, no! Thank you for sharing that sad news! Her scenes are going to be that much more impactful! May she rest in Paradise!
LILA, I love what you said to Diana:
"Diana, my Dear, thank you for your always thoughtful responses! I know I definitely feel seen when you respond."
Exactly. Diana is a one-woman support system for recappers. She not only notices the wonderful description a writer coins, she mentions each and every gem and makes you feel that all your hard work is appreciated. It is such a gift.
She is like that good, but rare, friend who really listens to you when you're speaking, and hears not only your words, but the feeling behind those words. We all need a Diana in our lives.
Today has been busy and a bit frantic, and no way will I see this episode until later, but I have already had the pleasure of seeing it through your perceptive eyes dear LILA. Thank you.
Goodness JARIFA. Glad the power is back on and you are looking on the bright side--seeing it as an opportunity to clean out your fridge and freezer and start fresh. Good strategy.
I love seeing Cynthia Klitbo playing Socorro and rasping away with all that gray powder on her hair. Bet that she had fun with those scenes.
Not sure which was my favorite part of this episode: Loved the sexy poster "reveal" of the Pastora, but also Luz Maria, on the bus ride, dozing with her head tucked into Germán's strong shoulder. They look good together, in spite of the supposed age difference.
Oh my....all the food spoiled!!! Does that mean our ice cream snacks are only a distant memory? How about I make deviled eggs for tonight
/ Drinks of your choice. See you later partner?
Thank you Lila! I couldn’t stop laughing with your comment about random chick spreading her pheromones haha
About David & Ana - the first time they were talking I got the impression the he just wanted to end the conversation, thus saying he didn’t know about Regina’s personal life. Of course he knew she had problems and moved out, but he’s not the kind of person to be involved in gossip.. that’s why I thought he was saying anything to shoot down a conversation that would lead to more questions about Regina. But you guys think he lied to convince himself he’s not interested in Regina?
Just so depressed to hear that Monica Miguel has died. She seemed ageless. And simply had no peers when it came to scene direction. And her work as an actress was always stunning. I will especially never forget her role in Alborada. What an icon.
Great stuff, Lila.
[aka Random Chick] stops by the gym to interrupt David in his boxing in front of the mirror workout to spread her pheromones so she can do the same with her extremities later" is brilliant. Pilar may want a bigger piece of his action later, though.
Cecelia gets more pathetic every day.
Sergio will cause more trouble for Regina soon, which will not help the rest of her situation. The more that has to be said about the rumors the more Mireya and Rene will try to convince others that their lies are the truth. At least Lili and Cinthia know and can't be gaslit about this.
I am certain that Diego will soon be caught and he can kiss his future goodbye.
Very sad about Monica Miguel. She was 84.
JudyB, deviled eggs sound, great. It is something I never make but always love to eat. Thanks, amiga. I went grocery shopping today but it was just the basics. I will have something for us tomorrow night.
I haven't made deviled eggs in a long time, but I am getting tempted to. My recipe is simple: chopped scallions and Green Goddess dressing with a light dusting of cayenne.
Hey, SpanProf! Thank you!! Those Ladies were making it RIGHT, weren't they? Love 'em! Good balance for the catty and the whiney. Well, to each her own. SpanProf, it does seem as if we're being set up for trouble in Cuernavaca, doesn't it. Just like the constant talking about Aurora: she has GOT to come back!
JudyB! Diana is singularly the sweetest, most intelligently attentive Patio member one could ever hope for. In a world where three-dimensional interaction has been curtailed, I thought of Diane when I considered returning to the Patio, and I have not been disappointed! She is such a gift!
And Judy, please check the episode out when you can and let me know about my attempts to craft a more efficient, dare I say it, recap? Oh, and thank you for remembering me as "sassy!"
UnsolicitedOpinions! Hey, Kid! Thank you! I'm beginning to think like Anita, that they are going to deprive me of seeing David with Regina for a loooong time. Perla is making sure that whatever he may feel for the "mystery woman," it's not lust. Ok, they're grown. They're using each other. Then, here comes Ana and he is wimpishly denying he even cares about Regina! UUUuuf! So, to answer your question, UnOp. I think David is really gone for Regina but thinks she unattainable. Thus, he does not make even subtle passes at her, like Art seems to do. I think perhaps he has accepted he cannot have her, but loves her and will protect her. I think he's being honest with Perla, but may be trying to blow Ana off! Make sense?
Urbanita Thank you so much! You are another wind beneath a, *gulp* recapper's wings!
Urban, I am trying to be empathic toward Cecelia, but it seems she read "How to Alienate your Man with Every Breath You Take," a runaway best seller -- NOT! Gosh! she makes me ill! "Think of me like one of your patients?" What the fudge?!
You know what? I am surprised I don't feel empathy for Diego either. I mean, he didn't even try to see if there was a way he could get legitamate help for his village, just started snatching stuff
Yes, David is not smooth with the ladies like Art is lol. David mentioned that he “was not good at relationships”, I wonder if we’ll get more background on that later... we know he had a “thing” with Ana when they were residents, but that was many years ago. It seems like Ana is still very interested in David, so if they’ve been working at the same hospital ever since why would Ana not make a move in years? Unless David was seeing someone? Or married?! Okay maybe I’m reaching too far now haha.
Anyway, I don’t think we’re going to see Regina with either David or Art anytime soon. Sergio is not refusing to receive his divorce papers so this is going to get stretched out.. and Cecilia is too clingy l, she’s not going anywhere lol
UnOp I keep forgetting that these shows are designed to make moo-lah so they need to last a while and build up an audience that they can advertise stuff to and have more people watch and get good ratings....Yah. I'm not a movie buff, but if I want a romantic drama or comedy where my two faves eventually get together after a few trials and tribuations, I guess I should watch movies or a one-week, at best mini series. Oh, well! The Spanish lessons and companionship can't be beat!
Do you think Cecelia will survive her dangerously low self-esteem and dependence on Art? She's driving him away and I can't see her living that down but rather offing herself in a dramatic, guilt-inducing way.
I meant Sergio was refusing to receive, not not refusing haha
I find even the sound of Cecilia's voice annoying, so I’ll admit I don’t pay too close attention when she’s talking, but didn’t she at one point tell Art not to treat her like one of his patients? And now she wants him to see her like a patient? She’s aware she’s driving Art away, so I think she’ll do anything to guilt him into sticking around!
Side note - the novela is 87 episodes, which I think is a good length. When a novela is doing well in ratings and gets extended, the whole plot becomes absurd, so I’m glad that for Medicos they’re doing a second season instead - that gives them time to write good story lines.
Okay LILA. Finally got to watch this. I am SO OKAY with you fast-forwarding on the scenes with René and Mireya. Those two give me hives. Ditto for any scene with Cecilia. What a barnacle! (Well, if barnacles could whine and plead and whine some more, she'd be a barnacle.) Can. Not. Stomach. The. Lady.
On the other hand. David. To me, he was protecting Regina from Ana's probing and jealous curiosity. He's fully aware that Ana still has a letch for him, and he's not going to get involved in any "chismes" about a person [Regina] whom he really values. So good for him. I was cheering him on for his reticence and evasiveness. It was to protect his lady fair.
I love your recaps Sassy Lady. Keep 'em comin'.
JARIFA, forgot to mention earlier that I loved, loved, loved Luna's bedroom. Wow, the set decorators really had a blast setting up her bedchamber. Really great.
I have enjoyed every single interior scene in the barrio. A lot more imagination and verve than the sterile decor-decor aspect of Claudio's mansion or his business office. With the homes in the barrio, and the small kitchens, everybody crowded together on the couch--maybe not good for the Covid-19 situation, but so much cozier and "human" than the vast, elegant spaces of the rich.
Looking forward to our deviled egg feast tonight. I can guarantee that I will eat too many and then regret it. But...oh well...we'll deal with it. See you later, amiga.
PS URBAN, your recipe sounds very interesting. I've always made them like my mama, Hellman's mayonnaise, a teeny bit of apple cider vinegar, and a good bit of salt. And if going fancy, a stuffed olive on top. Or a bit of bacon. But your approach sounds intriguing.
MudyB, Yes, I thought the same thing about the bedroom. They really went all out on the interiors; not so much on the actors’ makeup. (Fede’s too black hair and NO eyebrows/ Nati who is ALL eyebrows, etc.) Claudio’s cold style sure goes along with him and Ric.
Looking forward to the show and the snack. I am sure it will hit the spot.
Thanks, Lila. Like everybody, I'm surprised David denied his feelings for Regina to Ana too. But I think he just didn't want Ana probing in his private business.
Diana, praying that you have a speedy recovery and get plenty of rest. Your voice will be very much missed at Caray. There's no comment like a Diana comment. We'll keep a seat warm for you until your return.
Thanks, JudyB Your explanation of David's behavior makes a LOT of sense. I was taking my boy down some notches. I'll hold off, but we'll see how he answers Ana tonight. Thanks, Judy!
Niecie! Okay, another respected vote for David. Thanks, girl!
Okay UnOp!, lets cut him some slack!
Highlights of the Highlights
Crucita gives Toño the message from Ric. He is supposed to meet him at a funeral home.
Nati tries to convince Damián that she is serious about wanting to get back with him. She belongs to him; always has and always will. They kiss.
Ric intends to tell Fabi the truth about who he is when they are interrupted.
Nati’s mother appears to tell her that her father died. Nati’s father was a no good drunk that molested her one time when he was all boozed up. When she told her mother, her mother didn’t believe her. That is why Nati left home. Her father finally admitted it to her mother. Her mother now is asking her to forgive her. Nati eventually forgives her at the funeral home. It just so happens that Mayo’s grandfather who has died is being waked at the same funeral home.
Crucita tells Ric, who is at Mayo’s grandpa’s wake, that Toño is outside of the funeral home with the wrestling mask on just as he asked. Crucita goes out to talk to Toño. Toño asks Crucita what Nati was doing there at the funeral home because he saw her leave. Crucita didn’t see her. Crucita leads Toño down to a basement where Ric confronts him and blames him for everything that has happened at Claudio’s company. Ric doesn’t want Toño to think he is connected to him or his family or Nati in anyway. He better not tell anyone they are brothers. Does Toño realize the hell he put him through? He is responsible for the whole mess. When Ric insults Nati,Toño hits him and the fight is on. They both end up spent and laid out on the floor.
Sol disappears in order to protect everyone from the Morales curse. Fede tracks Sol down and brings her home. In the meantime, Murillo wales up but then returns to his silent smiling self. Everyone thinks that is because Sol left and returned while the real reason is that Dan broke the green mole pot that belonged to their grandmother.
After finding Amelia’s poster, Adán is having a “crisis of trust” and is acting like a real jerk to everyone. He tells Tina that he has left the flama divina behind and is going to be a regular guy with regular vices, etc. and she can just live with it. She tells him that two can play that game. That gives him something to think about.
Ed consoles Amelia about Adán’s reaction and asks her to trust him (Ed) With a smile and a sparkle in his eye, he asks Amelia if he can keep her poster. She smiles. Later she tells him she wants another child since she has lost Adán. Ed tells her to give it time.
Luchita and Germán arrive in Veracruz and share a bed at the hotel. They both are awake thinking about the other.
I absolutely loved the look that Ed gave Amelia when he asked if he could keep her poster.
Who is going to end up with Mayo? Ric and Fabi?
They sure tried to get artsy with the lion mural in color for Toño and in black and white for Ric.
No show on Thursday. We are being pre-empted.
JudyB, the deviled eggs were absolutely delicious!
Jarifa: Thank you very much for the detailed recap.
1.) I see Cranky Adan (Thumb sucking Jorge from "El Dragon") exposed Amelia's secret & wanted nothing to do with her meddling in his life & everyone else's.
2.) I laughed when Ed asked if he could keep the poster LOL.
3.) Looking more likely Ric & Fabi will adopt Mayo.
4.) So I see that Natalia was molested by her up-to-no-good Daddy. No wonder she's all screwed up.
5.) Damian & Ugly Plastic Blondie plotting as usual. Fast forward.
6.) No Ivette ?
7.) Tono & Vengeful Ric fighting.
8.) I see the previews for Friday night show Luchita going off on Dora.
9.) What did Tina mean by "two can play that game" ?
10.) Murrilo still smiling LOL. How did he get that way ? I am assuming it was during his & Luna's escapade.
11.) The Morales cursed is intriguing.
12.) Fabi still has no idea that she's talking to Vengeful Ric. Hurry up & confess Vengeful Ric or somebody else will expose your secret.
13.) Where is Renata ?
Good morning JARIFA. I agree...Ed is quite the charmer with his saucy expressions (and also wise advice). I think he's my favorite character, and thank goodness he can still bring out the playful Amelia, and briefly eclipse the tedious Pastora persona she adapts most of the time.
I guess the set people were having fun with that ultra-symbolic lion poster. Didn't make sense that it would be in that cluttered funeral home basement, but olé olé!
Hopefully that knock down drag out fight between the two brothers will lead to a reconciliation. My brother had a terrible temper and he and my Dad used to have some righteous fights. But a few hours later they'd be talking and laughing as if nothing had happened. My mom couldn't understand it, because when she was mad, she'd be mad for days. Guys seem to be able to blow up and then move on. Those two certainly need to.
The way they dress Solita cracks me up. She really looked like Minnie Mouse yesterday with all those bows. And Estrella...don't get me started. That horrible hairdo and the combination of red top and horrendous violet yoga pants. Under normal conditions, the actress is quite attractive.
The whole Adán-Tina fuss just seems silly. But, plotting aside, the colorful marketplace and the clever backgrounds the set people have dreamed up have made this a very enjoyable telenovela for me. The best part, of course, is my family room buddy and our kaleidoscope of snacks. I'm a little woozy this morning from all those deviled eggs I munched on. It really is true that one can have a "food hangover". Good thing there's no show tonight. May have to go on a bread and water penance to recover.
Thanks as always JARIFA. Especially for pointing out the lion poster. Sometimes I'm so focused on the closed captions and actors, that I don't even notice the background.
SUSANLYNN--yes, a little brown mustard can add zip to deviled eggs also. An old beau of mine maintained that that Durkee's Famous Sauce was a must in deviled eggs. And also for grilling chicken. You're bringing back some fond memories there, lady.
Here's another vote for David. I, too, thought that did not want to discuss Regina with nosypants. He seems completely smitten with Regina, but she is still married to Serg right now.
Susanlynn: Have you've watched this Telenovela that stars Jade Fraser, Paulina Goto, etc., ?
HOW did you know? JARIFA??? Pot stickers are absolutely my favorite food of all time. With the sauce...to die for. Next time I'm at Trader Joe's picking up my Irish Breakfast Tea I'll have to look for the TJ dim sum snack plate. You are definitely the best noshing partner ever. Wish you lived next door. We could have some great front porch visits.
OT
SUSANLYNN...Now you've got me wanting hot dogs too. We only buy veggie dogs now, but they taste the same. The texture is "off" but if you smother them in baked beans, you don't notice. Yep, veggie dogs and Gulden's brown mustard are definitely going on my shopping list along with Trader Joe's comestibles I always have onions on hand. YUM!
P.S. Yes, JARIFA, when I saw the fire in the trash can I thought Yikes, is that their version of a crematorium? But given the fanciful set decorators they have on this one, I guess it was supposed to be a symbol of violence and hate. For a comedy, it's getting very high falutin', I must say.
Good day, Peeps! We’re back with bright-eyed Ana asking David if he knew Regina was getting a divorce. She reminds him that he helped her get an apartment and is so supportive of her. He must be interested. David insists that whatever happens with Regina, or anyone else in the hospital, doesn’t matter to him. “I’m here to help patients and if Regina is having a hard time, it’s because of decisions she’s made.” While her expression is disarmingly “innocent,” Ana’s arms are folded as she insists these are too many coincidences in what’s happening. David is trying to answer her in flat, even tones that match the disinterest he is expressing but is visibly exasperated with this last point. “You are misinterpreting things.” David insists that he’s only helping Regina because her problems interfere with his work. That’s all.
Cut to Art on the phone. Pamela is assigned to shadow him today. Her assignment is to note the patient’s condition, his treatment, and to tally the supplies used. She asks if she can help him with anything else. Art is busy and tries to non-offensively shut her up with his brilliant smile. It doesn’t work. She shares that she is specializing in Psychiatry. He does express some interest in this and in Dr. Garza, her best teacher. She agrees to give him Dr. Garza’s contact information. Art admits, after Pamela’s relentless probing that he wants it for his novia. Finally abandoning the smile, he firmly tells her not to mention this conversation to anyone!
Ana seems satisfied with David’s answer. Marco reports for his day with David. David introduces him to Ana and they head off to see Violeta, the patient that fainted in Ana’s clinic and needed emergency surgery. David greets Violeta and explains to her that she had a pulmonary embolism. David invites Marco to tell Violeta in layman’s terms what that means. Marco gives an accurate, but too technical explanation so David takes over, aided with the cool computer graphics. Ana beams to Violeta that Dr. Paredes did the surgery that saved her life. Violeta is grateful. They leave the room, Ana continues to her clinic and Marco thanks David for finally letting him see real patients! He launches into his lamentation about being assigned totally useless things to do; things that are beneath the top graduate of the most prestigious private medical school in the country! Marco doesn’t notice that David responds with the same faux excitement that Luis did last week to his story. David knows just what he needs: some experience that you just don’t get in medical school. “There are many ways that you can help people. One of the ways is by being grounded in the reality of their care. You want to see patients? Follow me.” David walks away coolly, leaving Marco looking after him, concerned.
Gonzalo goes to get Ana to the dialysis unit to see the new machine. She hugs him happily and thanks him heartily: He does not know what a difference this will make!
She offers to send him reports of all the people who are treated with the new machine; it will be helpful in generating more donations. Having no chill, Ana asks about the rumors about him and Regina: she always wondered why they seemed so close. “Regina and I have an excellent professional relationship, nothing more,” he states firmly. “If you say so, that that’s the way it is!” she answers.
Luis and Diego are in a triage bay of the ER. First patient of the day is a shirtless man with monitor leads all over his chest and an orange and white fabric mask over his face! He’s a professional wrestler who came in due to dizziness. He is, El Tirano, a famous Lucha Libre fighter, as Diego informs Luis. No matter, El Tirano (ET) needs to take off his mask so he can be properly examined. ET has a fight tonight: he can’t satay and he WILL NOT take off his mask! Luis tells him if he will not allow himself to be examined; he can sign a form stating that he left of his own free will (AMA) against medical advice and be done with it. Ok, ET will sign it and come back to be reviewed after his fight. ET does not want to sign his real name but Luis finally convinces him that they will protect his identity. He signs, gets off the gurney and promptly crashes onto the crash cart and falls heavily on the floor. Luis rushes to attend to him!
David drops Marco off with Lili for his chance to work with real patients up close and personal: He will accompany her on her rounds to bathe patients and change their bed pans! David wants to know if Marco gives her any trouble. He is to watch her do the first bath, and then do the next ones alone. David turns and leaves, Marco sighs that this is going to be hell!
Speaking of Lucha Libre, Regina interrupts Miryea chewing out a Nurse. When she tries to sit down, Regina spins her chair around! “ I know that you have been telling people that me and Dr. Olmedo are having an affair!” “Oh, no, I didn’t say it, but I’m very happy for you two, that you are together.” Regina is bending down, inches from Miryea’s face. “Between Dr. Olmedo and I, there is absolutely nothing!” Miryea tries to play dumb, shaking her head that she doesn’t understand. Regina says, “Yah, you don’t understand anything. I know perfectly well that you are telling this to the Nurses and I am not going to tolerate you making up this kind of thing, mmm?” Regina leaves, Miryea stands and calls after her as a few heads turn. “Doctora, I didn’t say anything.” Regina goes back, turns Miryea by the shoulder to face her. “Yes, you did, and I’m getting tired of your attitude!” Miryea continues to play the surprised innocent. “I think you’re exaggerating everything!” “Shut up! I am not exaggerating and I am not going to continue putting up with someone like YOU in MY team! I’m warning you, I am going to request your transfer to another area!” Regina has closed in even closer on Miryea and makes this last remark with a firm but confident smile, her eyes still laser-focused on Miryea.
“Are you firing me?” Miryea asks a bit too loudly; everybody in the ER is now watching them. Regina acknowledges the audience, “No, simply that you be transferred, at your same pay grade, to a different area!” “You can’t do this to me!” “Of course I can! You know why?” Regina asks with a toss of her head and long ponytail, “Because I am the Director of the ER!” “I know, I’m not referring to that, I’m referring to the fact that I have not made any errors or mistakes so grave that you do something like this!” Miryea complains, loudly. “That’s true, that’s why I’m not firing you, I’m just asking that you be transferred because you and I have had lots of problems and sincerely, I don’t think you and I can continue to work together!” “Well, I think that’s very unjust.” Miryea says more quietly. Regina makes a facial shrug. “I’m sorry; I’m going to talk directly to Dr. Olmedo to tell him my decision. Watch yourself!” Regina drops the mic and leaves Miryea and the ER fully cognizant that they have just watched an ER SMACKDOWN!!
Back to the ER bay, ET is back on the gurney and Luis tries to remove his mask, now that he seems somewhat out of it. ET springs back to consciousness, grabs Luis’ hand, making him yowl in pain! ET allows them to put a nasal cannula instead of a mask to deliver the oxygen. ET and Luis go back and forth: he still wants to leave; the Docs have to do tests. Cinthia comes in and reviews ETs symptoms with him and tells him all the tests they have to do. He seems more agreeable but insists he has to leave soon!
Regina goes straight to Gonzalo’s office where he and Rene are meeting. Gonzalo wants to replicate Regina’s successful inventory control program throughout all departments; Rene thinks it will be too much work! This effort is worth it and Gonzalo insists that patients receive the same high level of care they would get if there were not a budget crisis! Regina knocks, enters and says she come back later. Rene offers to leave; Regina says that’s not necessary. Gonzalo tells her to go ahead. She tells him she wants Miryea transferred to another department: It’s getting increasingly difficult to work with her and she can’t put up with her attitude any longer! Rene looks at Gonzalo with worried surprise! What did she do? Regina says that it is Miryea who is telling the Nurses that the two of them are having an affair. Rene says no, it was just a misunderstanding because you two were seen at The Club together. He adds testily that Miryea has been with them for a very long time. That is precisely why Regina can’t understand why Miryea is doing this. That’s not all, Regina says, Miryea questions the Doctors, she’s always in a bad mood! Regina asserts she is not going to put up with that kind of attitude and disrespect from anybody! Rene inserts himself in the discussion again. Gonzalo asks him to leave; Regina and Gonzalo exchange a WTF was that all about glance in reaction to Rene’s vigorous defense! At first Regina is distressed at what seems like a defense of Miryea from Gonzalo: she has a complicated personality, but she’s good at her work. He understands her anger and stress, but he is NOT going to make decisions based on emotional requests! Regina admits that Miryea’s actions have not hurt the
work of the ER, but she constantly questions her decisions! Gonzalo says this is what Head Nurses do! They have a lot of experience and think they know more than the Doctors! You want her respect, then EARN her respect! Regina, somewhat deflated, asks how does she do this. Gonzalo asks her to remember what he taught her about emergency medicine: treat her like an ER case: Don’t make emotional, precipitous decisions; make decisions with a cool head!
Lila and Marco go to tend their first patient. The patient greets them and is anxious to get his bath: he has a terrible itching in his crotch! Marco suppresses the urge to hurl and asks for a sidebar outside the room. He can’t do this! Yes, he can and he will; she doesn’t want trouble with Dr. Paredes, they re-enter the room. Moments later Marco and Lili leave the room and Marco makes a dramatic display about nearly vomiting! How does she do it, it’s so revolting? Well, she’s used to it and it’s something that the patients enjoy and she likes helping them. Lili patiently tells him it’s not pleasant being in bed unable to move for several days; he needs to be more empathic and put himself in the patient’s place. Marco tells her he’s going to be a Plastic Surgeon; people ask him to operate on them, he charges them and that’s it! Lili thought Doctors prepared to help a patient in whatever condition they’re in. She advises him he’s going to have trouble (con los adscriptos) if he doesn’t change his attitude. [Any Peeps know what that means?] He says he will help with the baths, but he can’t handle the bedpans.
Miryea charges up and attacks Lili for telling others what she told Lili. “Because of you, I got into trouble. I’m warning you, if I go, you’re going with me!” Lili cries. Marco asks her not to cry, he knows she’s angry but he can’t give Miryea this kind of power over her. Lili says that she can’t lose her job! “Come on, don’t cry; the patients can’t see you like this.” She says he’s right and she doesn’t have time to cry: they have a lot of patients to take care of. Lili looks up at him and tries to smile through her tears. Marco tells her, “I tell you what; you help me clean the bed pans, and I’ll help you with the baths! What do you say?” “It’s a deal,” she agrees quietly as they enter the patient’s room.
Daniel gets an impassioned plea from a Mother whose son (Chris?) d does not want to get any more treatment for leukemia. Daniel tells her that reaction is normal: the treatments are strong, with unpleasant side effects, but the child has to get them. The Mother says her son is very upset and is refusing to eat! Daniel goes in to see an impossible cute, bald little boy. He examines the child and, addressing the need to eat, asks if he likes tortas? No, he is not hungry. The poor cutie pie makes his stand: I’m not hungry; I don’t want to eat or take medicine; I’ve been here a long time; I want to go home! He covers his head with the blanket! Daniel talks with the Mother after they leave the room.
JudyB, oh yes, the crematorium association was something I tried no to think about it but I had to.We knew that Nati’s father was being cremated. At least the production is being creative so I will give them plenty of points for that.
TJ makes the best frozen barbecue pork buns. They are at the top of my food list. I also got pork potstickers, pork soup dumplings, and pork siu mai. I eat so much (really too much) chicken, I needed a change but will I start oinking soon? It is nice to have a bit of everything so then I can put together my own dim sum snack plate whenever I feel like it. We definitely would make good neighbors I am sure with lots of good food and talk. Now it’s time to order some chicken (and maybe some pork) from the grocery.
Daniel finds out from her what the child likes… dinosaurs, basketball, the beach, las luchas (wrestling!) chocolate, super heroes, etc. Daniel says let’s leave him be for now; they’ll keep him hydrated and on a bland diet and he’ll see how they can get the child reanimated. The Mother is relieved and grateful!
Luis tells Regina about ET’s interference in care by refusing to take off his mask and takes Regina in to meet him. She asks how long he’s done LL. Fifteen years. How many injuries has he had? He can’t count them but names virtually body part he has! She tells him he must take off the mask; he adamantly refuses. Regina asks to be left alone with ET. She grabs something off a cart and closes the curtains to the bay. She tells him that the mask means everything to him but gives her professional pledge that the Doctors will never betray his confidence. “You put this on and we will be able to give you excellent care.” She gives him a gauze hair cap and face mask [which we all see too much of these days!] and turns her back, asking him to let her know when he’s ready. He tells her and she turns. ET presses the orange and white sequined mask into her hands and solemnly asks her to take care of it, please. She will. Art and Pamela see a patient; Art’s cell phone rings and Pamela openly listens, though acting as if she is not. Art confirms that Dr. Garza will see Cecelia!
Ana runs up on David to tell him about the new dialysis machine! David tells her that he told her Gonzalo was a man of his word! Oh, but you helped, too and I will always be grateful! He’s also been so helpful In the OPC and she wishes he could spend more time there! He knows, but his place is in the ER. Yes, but it is also possible to cover two areas at once. David says he does enjoy working with someone who is very efficient. He has to leave to get a med for a patient. Ana takes his hand and excitedly invites him to come to the dialysis unit to see the new machine. David looks down at their hands for longer than a moment and looks back up her, his gaze having slightly shifted. [Yah, David, Ana is SO GRATEFUL!] He says ok, see you later and we see a look of amused comprehension of the weirdness of the moment as Ana fairly skips off towards the exit. Later, David checks in on Marco after his stint with Lili. He asks Dr. Zavala if he’s enjoying treating patients. Well, it’s not what he had in mind but yes, he did. David asks Lili how this honors graduate did today; “Yes, I taught him how to change bed pans and give baths and he did very well.” Good. David will see him in the ER. Marco thanks Lili for what she did. She smiles warmly and tells him, “Life in the hospital is much easier if we help each other.” [I think Marco asks, “Did I help you?” but the scene cut. Hmm? ]
Regina goes back to see ET, X-rays in hand. From this and other studies, he has a contusion and various injuries to his brain tissue from multiple blows to the head. Can it be cured? The treatment is rest. Rest? Yes, she’s going to admit him so treatment and further studies can begin. ET is unbelieving but accepts that yes, he will miss (and perhaps forfeit a victory?) tonight’s fight.
Finally, Miryea has been summoned to Rene’s office. She is wearing her we-never-screwed-behind-your-wife’s-back demeanor. He tells her she decided to break up with him. He produces a document supposedly signed by Regina demanding her transfer but which requires HIS signing off to be effective. You decide, he tells her. Cara impactada!
Thank you Lila!
Gonzalo told Regina that SHE needs to EARN Mireya’s respect? I’m sorry but, WTF?!
One of these days Marco will learn that he’s better off keeping his mouth shut!
Adscritos are the attendings, the full-blown doctors lol (David, Luis, Art, etc)
Thank you for that definition of adsriptos or adscritos? Whatever, any way, The Big Docs. Thanks!
Lila, terrific job. Loved your blow by blow of Regina giving Mireya what for, ending with:
Regina drops the mic and leaves Miryea and the ER fully cognizant that they have just watched an ER SMACKDOWN!!
Color me disappointed too that Gonzalo stuck up for Mireya. Gonzalo, a head nurse who is petty enough to spread a rumor about the ER director and you with her supervisees is NOT professional and encourages disrespect of Regina and you. Wake up.
Anyway, since we won’t get a new episode tonight [Lila, enjoy your well-deserved break!], I’m looking forward to watch my recording of that smackdown.
The Lucha Libre storyline is cute. So funny when he grabbed Luis hand and had the good doc crying out in pain, but then I thought Hombre, he’s a surgeon – don’t don't crush his hand!
Art is busy and tries to non-offensively shut her up with his brilliant smile. It doesn’t work.
Pamela was in the zone and didn’t realize she was stepping all out of bounds in Art’s private life. He was so patient with her, until he (rightfully) wasn’t.
Marco asks her not to cry, he knows she’s angry but he can’t give Miryea this kind of power over her.
Surprise, surprise. Marco shows empathy for another.
Thank you, SpanProf! Yeah, some of you guys said she should go into Psych! She is good and she's a nosy little cuss, too! I guess that was professional noseness! ITA about little Chris liking luchas! That will make ET feel 10 feet tall, even if he has to forfeit his precious fight. And yes, Regina was excellent in how she respected ET while finding a face saving (no pun intended, really!) way for him to be treated! And re Miryea. Yep, since the are totally clueless as to Rene and Miryea's relationship, they had not idea excluding Rene was even necessary. Now, he's already used that knowledge to his advantage. The snake!
Niecie! Thank you! I felt it was really important to get every word of Regina ripping Miryea a new one. Regina is so sweet, I'm sure Miryea never saw that side of her before. People who are be-yatches also think people are afraid to confront them. Miryea has been disabused of that illusion!
I thought Hombre, he’s a surgeon – don’t don't crush his hand!
So did I, Niecie! And seeing Marco express some concern for someone else was refreshing. He may be learning!
Lila, wow, you just keep turning out these fantastic retellings. You don't miss a detail. They keep adding new characters, but you have everyone and every storyline covered completely . Thank you so much for all the time and energy you are spending to give us every bit as the plot unfolds.
Ot..Diana, if you are here, please know that good vibrations are coming your way))))))))))))))
I've seen a little bit of this LILA. But decided to just enjoy your recap and watch the rest later. I'll definitely be having telenovela withdrawal symptoms Friday, but happy you're getting a break. Five day a week recapping is grueling.
Loved this:
David looks down at their hands for longer than a moment and looks back up her, his gaze having slightly shifted. [Yah, David, Ana is SO GRATEFUL!] He says ok, see you later and we see a look of amused comprehension of the weirdness of the moment as Ana fairly skips off towards the exit.
That's what I mean. I haven't "seen" this yet, but I "see" it through your eyes and totally get if. Your powers of observation and description are terrific. Thanks lady.
And I'll certainly look forward to this:
Finally, Miryea has been summoned to Rene’s office. She is wearing her we-never-screwed-behind-your-wife’s-back demeanor. He tells her she decided to break up with him. He produces a document supposedly signed by Regina demanding her transfer but which requires HIS signing off to be effective. You decide, he tells her. Cara impactada!
I loathe these people and every scene that they're in. But I like knowing René is tightening the screws on Miryea. Her planned punishment of erstwhile lover just lost its punch.
Thanks so much, as always. The MEDICOS Patio is always rockin', thanks to you.
Great work, Lila.
We had Pamela's number; she will make an excellent shrink. And I agree that El Tirano is there to help that child, which should make him feel better. What PR he will also get out of that.
Gonzalo did drop the ball over the Mireya situation and the problem is that the more attention he pays to it from this point on the more she will spread her lies. I wonder if she really believes it. Either way I am gong to predict now that she will eventually team up with Ana to destroy Regina because Ana doesn't want her to have David.
David... the one guy who could knock some humility into Marco.
Hey, Susanlynn! Thanks, Hon! So glad you like my spin on things. I'm trying to get my ear re-trained. Hadnt listened to Spanish in ages. I did start using the captions, which I neer did before, but I think that's OK. So glad to have you guys chime in when I miss something!
Yes, Amiga, Diana! Love and healing VIBRATIONS))))))))))))))
JudyB! Hi, and thanks, Amiga! Oh Judy, do watch and comment again. This chirpy, happy Ana is so different from the one we met in the first fews shows! She is hilarious. And David seems as if he doesn't realize that she's got a hankering for him!
Judy, Rene doesn't do ish of what he's supposed to do for the Instituto, but he's never off the clock when looking out for his own interests. He can examine a complex situation from every angle and come up immediately with what's in it for him!
See you later. Love your take on things. Oh, yeah! Let me know what you think about Marco's day! Is he growing?
Thank you, Urban! Yep, I think you were one that said Pamela should be a shrink. She's a natural!
Ana and Miryea! Oooo! That will be Be-yatch Duo on steroids. Yah, Ana is sweet enough now, but if David ever let her get her hooks into him, I think she would try to be a controlling shrew---not that he'd put up with it. ITA, though, even if David never expresses any interest in Ana, I think she would try to destroy Regina. We shall see!
Congratulations, Lila. Another recap sailed out of the empty ballpark. Luckily you had some hungry Carayers hidden in the dugout to observe and comment on your prowess.
Well, I think we're fortunate we weren't left with a REAL cliffhanger to keep us up with worry until Friday. Anyone feel sorry for Mireya having to decide between being transferred or submitting to Rene's slimy saliva? Girl, I don't feel sorry for you, but you'd better get a big wad of cash if you decide working in the ER is better than a transfer.
UnOp--You are very correct in your assessment of a WTF moment with Gonzalo and Regina. He was not witness to Mireya's behavior, we were. I doubt he would have given himself the same advice if she'd tried that on him. Therefore, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since Reg, indignant as she was, didn't make Mireya's undermining her authority really awful. Mireya is hell-bent on undermining Regina at every turn and turning into Nurse Ratched to her underlings. So--I guess we'll get more of Mireya's hi-jinks, before Gonzalo sees what is really happening.
I agree with SpanProf that it won't be long before ET and the boy with leukemia will cross paths.
I wonder what "demeaning" work Marco will have to grovel through next. Lili was a good sport. I think there is room for a good friendship there--if he doesn't abuse the privilege.
Ana has said multiple times that David would do so well in the clinic (full-time), everything is better when he’s around, etc. She is way too happy right now, and since she got her way with the dialysis machine, I’m afraid she’s now going to push to have David move to the clinic permanently. I don’t think it will actually happen since David doesn’t want that, but it could be the trigger that makes Ana join forces with Rene and/or Mireya to make Regina’s life miserable.
PS. I think David is completely aware that Ana is smitten, but he pretends to not notice so that he doesn’t have to acknowledge it lol
Anita Hola y gracias, Amiga! Anyone feel sorry for Mireya having to decide between being transferred or submitting to Rene's slimy saliva?
I feel like Marco in the itchy-crotch Man's room! HAHAHHAHAHAA!
Yes, Anita. As a matter of fact, we can imagine Miryea being miserable over these next couple of days. Heffa deserves it! Did'nt you LOVE the smackdown!
UnOp Yah, David must know Ana's gah gah over him. His funny little expression must be (Phhht! Crazy chick wasting her time!} Gosh forbid he becomes one of these "galans" that lets himself get bedded and wedded as if he doesn't have a spine or will of his own. If it happens.......HE WILL FEEL THE WRATH OF LILA!!!!
Jezus Christ no! I also hope they don’t do that with David, Lila!! I have already seen Daniel Arenas play enough spineless galanes (I’m looking at you Octavio in corazón indomable!). Another reason why I’m enjoying David so much is because I have never seen Daniel Arenas in a role like this- someone with a strong character, and I love it!
UnOp- YES, i totally agree that it’s satisfying to finally see Arenas in a non-spineless role! When i see these handsome actors in male-weakening roles once too often, it takes me a few episodes to transition!! Now all he needs is to show a little more genuine empathy and eventually the ability to crush Ana’s obsession/jealousy of Regina—- in a way that makes sense, not just denying interest in anyone’s provate life - RIDICULOUS!!
Though Gonzalo’s attitude re: Mireye infuriated me, i too recognize that these frustrations are part of the price we pay watching TNs where it can take a LOOOOONG time see comeuppances! Sometimes, i think these writers/directors should be more respectful of us loyal viewers and punish just 1 or 2 of these horrendous characters sooner rather than later!! Always an interesting aspect of TNS is seeing % of good characters to bad and ratio of generally super satisfying scenes to super frustrating ones. I’d like to be on that Board of deciders !
