Highlights of the Highlights
Luchita and Dora are both immediately by “his” side since they are not sure who was shot. Damián goes to shoot the other twin when Diego and Crucita grab his gun and him. Fabi thinks that Ric has been shot but Ric tells her that it was Toño. Renata and Nati join the other two women at Toño’s side. Vale calls for an ambulance. Damián with his bloody mouth raves on as the two men hold on to him. Ric tells a barely conscious Toño to just hold on.Toño tells him and Fabi to take care of Mayo. He talks to his chula Nati . He loses consciousness.
At the market, Fede, Daniel, Remedios, Estrella and Luna use some pie as bait to get her to give them the solution to the curse. She sings her song and they immediately know they have to break all of the clay pots.
Damián shouts how he hopes Toño dies and how he wants to kill Ric. As he is dragged to be sequestered in Claudio’s office, someone calls the police. Ori tries to talk to Claudio who says to get out of his sight. She goes crying to Rafa not knowing what will become of her.
Ric tells Fabi that with all of the bleeding it looks like the bullet must have hit an organ. Claudio hugs Ric. The ambulance arrives amd Toño is transferred to the hospital. Ric puts his arm around Luchita to go to the hospital with her. The rest of the family follows. As Ori tries to get Claudio’s attention, Betty tells her she should take advantage of this time to get her stuff and leave. Betty notices she hasn’t packed much. Ori says she will pick up the rest later. Betty says that is just an excuse to come back around.
Damián is now tied to a chair in Claudio’s office. Crucita lets him know that he knew that Toño wasn’t Ric from the beginning. That even enrages Damián even further. He swears at Claudio’s portrait. He always preferred Ric to him. He is going to kill him, too. He is going to kill everyone. Ori sits with Rafa asking why they won’t let Damián leave. She tells,Vale that he didn’t do anything. Betty takes a certain joy in telling Ori the police are here and she is letting them in. Diego give the police the gun. As Damián is escorted out, he shouts for them ot let him go. He is the new president of Reyes Alonso. He is a multimillionaire. He tells his mother to do something for once in her life and not mess up like she always does.
As Ric enters the hospital, it is determined that Ric has a wound to his right side and that he has lost a lot of blood. His blood pressure is very low. Nati tries to be encouraging to him. Ric sits with Luchita as Fabi goes to get her a tea. She doesn’t want any tea. She just wants Toño to be okay. She is worried because they say that death never comes for just one person and Felix just died. Ric says Toño is very devoted to St. Jude so surely he will come through for him with a miracle.
At Sol’s home, they have all gathered along with Julia to gather all of their clay pots and break them. Luna reminds them that Sol took a pot with her. Fede will drive over to the hotel where she is staying and bring her back with it. Dan goes with him. Julia starts singing her song and she and the sisters break all the pots they have.
Dora and Claudio talk about how unjust life has been to Luchita. They also have come to really love Toño and feel he is part of the family. Claudio says Damián has to pay. The pain he is feeling is nothing compared to the pain he has caused Luchita. Crucita and Ivette tell them that Damián is being held without bail. His sentence will depend on whether Toño dies or not.
Nati apologizes to Fabi. Fabi forgives her.
The doctor tells Toño’s family and friends that he is in such critical condition that they will have to wait until he stabilizes before they can run the tests they need to so they can find where the bullet is lodged since there was no exit wound.
Betty is delighting in throwing all of Ori’s belongings on the floor to help her pack up and get out for good. Ori is upset but powerless. Where will she go? Betty doesn’t care. Ori wants Rafa to talk to Claudio for her. She doesn’t want to leave her home. Vale tries to talk some sense to her when Ori wants her to talk to Claudio so he will forgive Damián. Vale is taking her to live at her apartment while they decide what to do.Their taxi has arrived. Diego offers to help Ori to pack up. He tells her that in spite of everything, she is a very beautiful woman. Using her position she humiliated him and made him feel like an object. She apologizes. She starts to ask if maybe they could . . . Diego says no. He really loves Betty. He also has something that money cannot buy: dignity. He leaves her crying.
Everyone at the market prays for Toño.
It looks like Ori is going to have some big adjustments as she moves into Vale’s apartment. Vale tells her this is it. She has no where else to go. Ori is having a hard time imagining her daughter there all alone. Vale says it made her self-sufficient with Betty teaching her how to cook and Dora now to manage her money. She warns her Betty and Renata will be over a lot because they are her friends. Ori blames herself for how Damián ended up. Vale assures her Damián should know the difference between right and wrong. She tells Ori that she just spoiled him too much and was envious and arrogant herself. Ori asks if she will forgive her someday. What can she do? Vale says she can start by not considering herself better than everyone else. Vale is going to the hospital. Food is in the kitchen and there is a microwave.
Damián tries to bribe a guard. His cellmates overhear he is rich and take an interest in him. He is fresh meat for them. They are all over him.
Fabi and Ric try to explain to her parents about how she has been dating Ric all this time and not Toño. They have a hard time believing and accepting this odd tale. Ed tells Ric if he wants to date his daughter, his money and name mean nothing because he determines what goes on in his house. Ric respectfully agrees.
More people keep arriving at the hospital.
Sol appears at the market. The sisters and Julia sing and crash the last pot. Suddenly a strange strong wind blows through the market place. Sol, Julia, her sisters, Dan and Fede all joyfully experience it knowing the curse has been broken. Luna goles i to the restaurant and Murillo is up and eating behind the counter. He only has one question. Why does he have a diaper on?
Nati thanks Ric for everything. Nati explains how she has spoken with Toño and has told him the truth about everything.Je tells her Toño will e okay.
Fede has news from the doctor. He tells them all that he is condemned. He looks at Sol and adds: to love her for the rest of his life.He and Sol hug. Daniel and Estrella start to wander off together.
The doctor comes out and says that Toño has been asking for his chula. Nati says that would be her. The doctor continues telling them that one person can go in to see Toño. He is still in a very critical state. Nati defers to Luchita and tells her she can go. She asks her to tell him how much she loves him. Luchita sends Nati instead. She asks her to tell Toño she loves him.
Ric goes off by himself and wonders what purpose was the revenge he was planning going to serve. He looks totally disgusted with himself.
Nati goes to see Toño. He opens his eyes and sees her. He is happy that she called him “her love” and that she is not angry with him. She says she will never be angry with him again. He asks that she tell him that she loves him and she does. She tells him he has to be strong. He cannot leave her behind all by herself. He says he would never do that. He asks her to marry him. She says of course she will. He says they will have a wedding at the market with a priest and all of his people like Claudio and Dora . . . He talks about adopting Mayito and Ric and Fabi being the godparents. Nati insists he will be the best father in the world. Toño starts to slip out of consciousness, his hand goes limp and he starts to flatline as Nati watches helplessly.
FIN
I am sure happy they are not cutting out anything in the final episodes. That being said Uni could publish its schedule well in advance so I’d it’s viewers would know sooner what is coming up and could plan accordingly.
Of course, my favorite scenes were those with Julia and the singing as they broke the pots. Then there was the wind as the evil vacated the premises. It was so liberating. Poor Murillo wondering why he had a diaper on.
I hope we don’t have to see weasely Damián again.
JudyB, the O’Douls was very good. Thanks. What to nosh on tonight? Hmmmmmm. . .
Jarifa: Loved the recap.
1.) WTH is Luis doing there ?
2.) The prisoners made Damian their "lover" LOL.
3.) Plastic Blondie now living at Vale's apartment.
4.) I got a BIGLY thrill up my leg when the Morales sisters & Julia started breaking the pots.
5.) Sideburns Dude & Sol are great together.
6.) I do have one question. Why does Murillo have a diaper on ? 🤔
7.) What was up with the slow motion of flower petals flying while Sol was smiling ?
8.) German shows up.
9.) Fabi's mother needs to get over it.
10.) No Cranky Adan & Tina. HORRAY.
11.) Sounds like we're getting a double wedding.
12.) Betty cracks me up.
Like you JARIFA, I loved the slow-motion filming of the liberating wind that blew all through the mercado. Sol looked especially happy. And all those little hearts floating around! Just fun in a delightfully cartoonish way.
Glad you enjoyed your O'Douls. To me it tastes just like normal beer, but without the soporific results. When I drink actual alcohol, all I want to do is go to sleep...sooner rather than later.
Not culturally appropriate, but how do you feel about Greek food? For some reason, I'm craving a Greek salad--no lettuce, just chopped cucumbers, green pepper, kalamata olives and feta cheese, with a good vinaigrette. And some wonderful sour dough bread to sop up the remains. But if you've got other ideas, I'm game. You've always been a great snack-meister.
Certainly hope our Toño pulls through though. If he goes to "el otro barrio", I'm not going to want to eat at all!
Steve, I saw Luis and didn’t even care. I have a bad/good habit of sometimes omitting characters or even entire storylines I don’t care for when recapping.
JudyB, you made me laugh about Toño possibly ending up in “el otro barrio”. You must have read my mind. I was thinking of us having Greek food one night last week. I love Greek salad. I have a taste for taramasalata and dolmades, too, so I will bring those for our Hellenic potluck. I cannot believe it all ends tonight! Looks like a happy ending.
Hola, Peeps! No novelette this morning, back on the clock! Please fill in things you felt got short shrift, as I first cover some minor players before the main action. Be aware there is a Sensitivity Alert in this episode and the minor scenes were interspersed in the main action for tension and comic relief. Vamanos!
Art perhaps hopes Regina gets his double entendre: She’s a woman he care very much about. [There is an awkward cut to Rafa with a mother and small boy; it’s a PSA on the dangers for child development of a vegan diet.] The next thing Art says is that David has put her in danger and because of his impulsivity things could get worse. Regina agrees with this statement. Art continues that David’s actions were egotistical. Regina says all he did was defend me. Ok, maybe he did, but now there are charges (ya tiene una demanda—did I get that right?) and this is going to complicate your divorce. Yes, Regina does the neck twist thing and tells Art she talked to David and told him not to interfere in her affairs anymore. Well, Art hopes David understands and seals his lips with school marm certainty. Regina shifts the focus on Art and asks how things are going with Cecelia, snatching him out of his self-righteousness. He looks at her a bit surprised. Things are bad; he doesn’t know what to do. Regina offers her support to him as he has offered her. He thanks her but doesn’t want to burden her with his problems while she has enough of her own. Regina restates her offer. He leaves.
In Cuernavaca, Caro is by the pool while Ximena is in it making out with the Rando she picked up at the club the other night. Caro is concerned they’ll miss their bus. Ximena and Rando thinks she should chill out, he’ll drive them back to Mexico City: Rando can drop her off at the bus station and her parents can pick her up there, none the wiser.
This bright morning, our David is chipper, even whistling when Art, full of entitlement after talking to Regina, confronts him. Before launching into his attack, just to throw David off and put him on the defensive, Art talks to David as if he is one of the Residents, asking him where some blood lab tests are. Never mind, Art will do it himself! He can’t believe how egotistical David is; it makes problems for everybody. What is he referring to? Art says David has gotten Regina tangled up in problems. David replies that this is between him and Regina and is part of his personal life and Art needs to butt out! Art tells David to stay away from Regina and NOT to cause more problems. Lili is looking at the two while a couple of other staff listen without trying to gawk. David tells Art not to threaten him. Art says if he doesn’t stay away; something bad could happen to Regina. David answers that he would NEVER, ever let anything happen to Regina. Art insists through a goofy smile that something bad has already happened. David looks away and draws in a long breath and chuckles, a control measure to extinguish his own fuse. “Art, what I do outside the hospital is MY business and NOT yours. For Regina I am capable of anything. Tell me, Arturito, are you interested in Regina?” Art answers yes, with his chin slightly elevated in an attempt to look down on David: his interest is that as Chief of the ER, he wants to make sure Regina is fine and he hopes David will change before he causes more problems. David says this will never happen. “That’s all; just don’t involve her in more problems. I’ve told you!” Art walks away with a superior air; David flings an “imbecile!” after him. [Team David, it’s on Girls! David can fight his own battles; this was NOT a drop the mic moment for Art! Whatever!]
Around the Instituto: Miryea reports to Rene about the police serving David with a summons right in front of all the patients! Rene agrees it is a tremendous scandal; the ER is becoming more and more problematical and Rene’s not going to stand for it! Daniel is the topic of concern and speculation for his strange behavior; Cinthia and Rafa discuss it; Tania is hurt and confused when Daniel declines an invitation for tacos. She wants to know what’s up; he can talk to her about anything. Daniel says he can’t because he’s a fool because he thought life would always give you what you wanted if you deserved it, but that doesn’t apply to him. He leaves abruptly. Later, Tania relates this brush off to Pamela and Diego who had also noted Daniel’s odd behavior. Daniel gets home later in the evening; Paco and Elena are surprised he’s home early. Daniel doesn’t want to eat and goes directly to his room. Paco finds out Daniel’s heart has been broken, thankfully stops Elena from going to hug and baby him and takes him out for the tequila cure instead. Daniel eventually gets crying-drunk and basically sings a music-less ballad about his broken heart to a growing audience at the bar who refuses him to answer a worried Tania’s text. [One point about Daniel’s complaint that Rafa betrayed him. Rafa DID NOT; Rafa pointedly asked him if he liked one of the new Residents and he told Rafa he was in love with a neighborhood girl.]
On the home front: Susana shows Luis that Gabriel’s grades have dropped. Luis tells Gabriel he’s going to have to get off the soccer team. [Pretty insensitive to approach this while the lad was eating, Luis, sheesh!]
Cinthia and Rafa are having dinner. Rafa behaves himself and listens as she tells about how much she misses her home and parents but can’t get along with them, especially her Dad who won’t accept that she chose medicine over the family business. Rafa takes her hand and says he’s sorry. She lets him hold for a bit then removes it. Rafa hopes that one day it will work out and they accept and recognize how good she is at what she does. Turning the conversation to him, Rafa admits to a jealous streak. Marco and his Dad have a non-hostile interaction. Marco asks his Dad for help: his fellow Residents are advancing and he doesn’t get along well with the Attendings; he knows his attitude doesn’t help. Dad asks him to think at what he is good at; Marco says suturing. Dad says then show the Attendings he excels at something that is valuable to them.
Sensitivity Alert It’s evening now. Luz is worried about Caro and rushes in the door that evening to find she is not home! She is worried as the highway can be dangerous at night: she is particularly worried as the call goes immediately to message! We see almost immediately Caro in the back seat of Rando’s car; Ximena has just got to swap some slob with him while he’s driving; Rando swerves sharply to avoid slamming into the back of a car on the road where a man his changing the tire as a woman stands behind him! IT IS BAD!! The car has turned over in a ditch. Ximena and Rando are thrown from the car. Caro climbs out from the overturned vehicle; her face is bloodied; she crawls over to Ximena who is covered in blood as well and unresponsive!
The dinner goes well between Rafa and Cinthia. Of course, he presses his suit: he knows she doesn’t like his manner of being, but he will change it she likes him just a little bit. She doesn’t, okay, well, maybe a little tiny bit. She is impressed that he doesn’t make a heavier pass at her. Nope, he told her it would be a dinner between friends. He calls for the check. He’s going to be a gentleman and walk her home; he doesn’t want her to go alone. Cinthia lightly grasps Rafa’s arm and thanks him.
In the ER David and Regina chat absently about Antonio and Ruben. They are at the same work station; she is standing, writing in the chart, he is sitting at the desk. He stands, closes the chart, getting her attention. He tells her he is sorry for his reaction. She takes the opportunity to tell him again how visceral he is. David looks away briefly, then down. Regina warns him that when he goes to make his declaration, Sergio is going to do his best to get under David’s skin. He promises he won’t let that happen. “Regina, it’s just that, without my realizing it, I worry about you. It matters so much to me what happens to you! I know you don’t need it, but I want to be here at your side, helping you confront whatever worries you. It must be because I’m always here, working with you.” Regina looks down, recognizing the intimacy of the moment. David looks down as well, mirroring her mood as a tender male voice softly croons. “David, you have always supported me and even though we don’t always see eye to eye, we are a team.” “And you are right that I should not have meddled in your personal life; don’t worry. I will try to control myself when I’m in front of that idiot!” Regina offers to go with David, he declines but accepts, after some resistance, to make his declaration in the presence of the Big Guns legal firm that Gonzalo has contracted. A page comes over the intercom for Drs. Paredes, Molina and Villasenor to report to the ER STAT!
Sensitivity alert. The controlled chaos of the well-oiled ER machine cranks up as three patients are wheeled in and Regina does a triage assessment of each patient and assigns rooms and intervention teams to them. She is stunned to see the last patient is Caro but does not break her stride in the rapid, lifesaving assessment. She calls for someone to notify Caro that her daughter has been in a car accident! Regina asks that Drs. Calderon and Guerrero be called immediately! Caro has an fractura expuesta on her right leg: that is, the leg is broken and the bone is exposed! Regina, David and Art exchanged worried glances. Cinthia and Rafa arrive at her apartment. She truly had a good time and appreciates being to get things off her chest with him. He wonders if he’ll ever be invited in. Cinthia says it will be when he gives up his whole galan act. As they part, she gives him a slow kiss just to the right of his lips on his cheek. He inhales the moment in and leaves; she calls to him, he looks at her expectantly and…..they are paged to the ER STAT!
All hands on deck in the flurry of urgent trauma care. Art attends Ximena. Regina’s patient arrests and dies despite a valiant resuscitation effort. Luz and her husband arrive at the hospital and think the patient with the sheet pulled over the head is Caro. After a few heart-gripping moments of despair that must’ve seemed like an eternity, Regina informs them it is NOT Caro. They learn she was not in a bus; she has a very serious injury on the right leg and will need surgery but she will survive. Cinthia is the lead surgeon, David assists and Rafa is the anesthesiologist. After surgery, Regina tells Luz’s parents the surgery was a success and they have attached an external bracing device to aid in the rejoining of the two pieces of bone, as a section had to be removed. They reassure Parents that with Caro’s youth, she will recuperate well; Ximena is seriously injured but will also recover; the young man driving the car died. In the break room everyone congratulates Cinthia for her excellent work; she humbly accepts their thanks but says it was team work. Regina bids everyone goodnight and leaves.
Annoyance alert. Seriously. Fill in if you care about this conversation. Cecelia whines that she didn’t lie to Art about why she missed her therapy appointment. He breaks up with her and she begs him not to. She loves him. No she doesn’t: you don’t love someone and deceive them. They’re through. Final scene.
Lila, you conveyed the heart stopping action perfectly. An outstanding short story in and of itself.
"Art hopes David understands and seals his lips with school marm certainty" was beyond and my favorite of many smart, savvy lines.
"The controlled chaos of the well-oiled ER machine cranks up". Indeed it did! The cool as a cucumber Regina rejected any and all of the overwhelming stress that enveloped them. Proof positive the right choice was made with her promotion.
"Of course, he presses his suit: he knows she doesn’t like his manner of being, but he will change it she likes him just a little bit. She doesn’t, okay, well, maybe a little tiny bit". I'm trying to be fair here. Some would argue that Rafa has a right to a social life (Tania) as Cinthia really has given little encouragement. Others, that if he were truly enamored, he would have kept up a vigilant and purer pursuit of Cinthia. I fall a bit in the middle, but no matter. I think Cinthia's position will be unforgiving.
At least Daniel didn't let his mother tuck him into bed with ridiculous murmurings that all would be fine in the morning. A hard luck lesson yet it was obvious he wanted to return Tania's call. What will it take??
A ripple of discontent among the major ER players on the personal side but their professional support and unison is spot on.
Wonderful Lila. Just wonderful. Thank you!
Diana
Daniel is completely wrong in assuming that Rafa and Tania have been betraying and mocking (burlando) him all along. Rafa, as mentioned above, specifically asked him if his crush was someone at work and he said no. And Tania, although flirty, has not been intentionally leading him on. He IS a victim, though. A victim of his own inexperience and naiveté. He needs to put on his big boy pants and get over it. He built all these fantasies about Tania in his head and now his former friend Rafa "stole the love of his life!" Grow up, Son!
And you go, Pamela! Her casual advice to Arturo has given him the confidence and strength to finally deal with Cecilia and stop being a wimp giving in to her whining. Yes, she will definitely make a good psychiatrist. She was cute, giving Tania a hug to make her feel better about Daniel's coldness. Poor playgirl Tania. She genuinely likes Daniel AS A FRIEND and is really hurt and baffled by his attitude.
Dianita! Hola, y gracias, querida! Art just really came off like a church lady or an old school marm! What? Whatever, Art. I won't drag him around too much: I know he's got a team out there!
if he were truly enamored, he would have kept up a vigilant and purer pursuit of Cinthia.
I agree, Diana. I really didn't like him telling Tania his interest in Cinthia was nothing special, that they were just work colleagues. That was low and he gets demerits for that. One thing is for sure, Cinthia knows he's a dawg and she is VERY justifiably tentative about him. Despite that, she was so appreciative of his listening ear and not propositioning her for the umpteenth time, she was juuuuust about to invite him in when they got the page to go to the ER. I don't think she knows he's tumbling Tania; if she finds out AND that he described her that way to Tania, that will be it for him and Cinthia!
Yes, so glad Paco stopped Elena with her ridiculous babying! And yes, ER Teamwork makes the Dream Work...and keeps it from turning into a nightmare!
Hey, Anon! You are right. Daniel is wallowing in self-pity and forgetting the details in his tale of woe!
Anon, we can add this excellent to Diana's great summary on the saga of Daniel and Tania:
And Tania, although flirty, has not been intentionally leading him on. He IS a victim, though. A victim of his own inexperience and naiveté. He needs to put on his big boy pants and get over it. He built all these fantasies about Tania in his head and now his former friend Rafa "stole the love of his life!" Grow up, Son!
And yes, Tania IS hurt as one of our friends pointed out. I don't know if he has the maturity to tell her, but I hope she finds out so she doesn't go around wounded like she is. I feel sorry for her!
Yes, Pamela is a great budding Psychiatrist! She definitely did fuel Art's pursuit of Regina though he's claiming it is a professional interest while implying it's personal, hoping Regina gets his drift, IMHO. Heck, maybe Pamela should treat Cecelia!
Thank you Lila! I am completely ok with you skipping Cecilia’s scenes, i don’t even pay attention while I’m watching tv lol. I can’t stand her voice!
Who does Arturo think he is to talk to David the way he did?! I don’t consider myself a violent person, but jeezus Art was so annoying I really wanted David to punch him in the face right then and there! Kudos to David for keeping his cool lol
Rafa may be a ladies man, but I haven’t seen him do anything to indicate that he’s not a good friend. I don’t think he would have gone after Tania if he had known Daniel was interested in her
Maybe David should stop acting like a teen and no one would talk to him like that. Dude won’t progress to anything in that hospital when he’s showing everyone how volatile he is. He’s building his own bad rep.
If anyone was acting like a teen, it was Arturo. David’s problem has NOTHING to do with work, so Arturo had absolutely no business even bringing it up. Not only was he talking to David about something that doesn’t concern him (Art), but he was intentionally provoking David. For what? So David can get mad? So he (Art) can go complain about it to Regina? Dude needs to mind his own business.
Wrong. David brought the problem to work too and is too immature. David acts like a teen, even when he’s in surgery he fights with the doctors. He’s done it twice already- he’s unprofessional- and Gonzalo knows all about it. He needs a serious chill pill. This dude is a joke in that hospital.
Regina told Arturo about it, so maybe she shouldn’t divulge information about her life, even if people are prying into it. Arturo is meddling into her business in the same way David is. They both have to back off, but Regina needs to shut up and not bring her problems to work too. Easier said than done. They’re all at fault.
Jarifa: Big question is whether Carlo (Damian's partner-in-crime) got away by fleeing the country with $$$ or got arrested by law enforcement for embezzling Reyes-Alonso ?
We'll never know because Univision has a habit of cutting all of the good scenes UGH.
Here's hoping the Gran Final's scenes are NOT cut tonight.
Lila, terrific recap. Like Diana, your "school marm" crack is my favorite. You've definitely got the beat on both our sparring bulls.
Well, Art hopes David understands and seals his lips with school marm certainty. Regina shifts the focus on Art and asks how things are going with Cecelia, snatching him out of his self-righteousness.
David looks away and draws in a long breath and chuckles, a control measure to extinguish his own fuse.
Now Daniel knows full well that Rafa didn't know the object of his crush was Tania. So I'm guessing he's claiming his friend Rafa betrayed him because he's more comfortable blaming Rafa than Tania.
Great stuff, Lila.
I disagree about Tania. I think she was leading Daniel on with no intention of paying off. Girls like her can spot guys like him. She just isn't mature enough to realize that this doesn't always work.
Pamela is the last person who should treat Cecelia. She just doesn't want to face the truth about herself.
Thanks for your feedback, UnOp always enjoy your participation. You and me, Kid, wanted to punch Art in the face! I think he's going to end up being a baddie! Did you hear him bad-mouthing David to Regina? He hasn't gotten outrageous in his criticism yet, but I think he's going to crank up the annoyance as he sees Regina and David getting closer. And they are. I loved the scene between them in the ER before the injured teens arrived. They both recognized he was expressing a new level of feeling for her. It was endearing that he confessed he didn't know where the feeling came from that he wanted to be with her and take care of her all the time. It was VERY cute. Regina felt it and they both looked down, kind of embarrassed. LOVE IT!!
ITA, UnOp, about Rafa. Daniel told him it was a neighbor girl. Daniel, you lied, man. But yeah, Rafa will go after any woman, as long as she's not promised to another or on fire!
Thank goodness we've got you LILA! Like everyone else, loved the schoolmarm quip. My bipolar DVR decided not to record MEDICOS last night. It DID record Como Tu No Hay Dos. Guess it just wasn't in the mood for drama. Anyway, you've kept me delightfully up to date on the stormy weather at the Instituto and we've even got some stormy weather right here on the Patio as folks disagree about the charms of our two galanes. Despite Art's fine appearance in boxer shorts, I'm totally on Team David, regardless of how he acts. Art's cool yule attitude indicates boredom in the long run, whereas David promises to be the passionate gift that keeps on giving. Hang on for dear life, Regina! and enjoy the ride.
Hola, SpanProf! Yah, Poor Caro! My gosh, she could have had a heart attack! You know, this novela is full of PSAs, I feel the whole Caro episode was a PSA on "Respect a Mother's Intuition!" Luz SO didn't want Caro to go on that trip and nobody heard or felt her anxiety. To her credit, though, Caro was level-headed and wanted to do the right thing, her friend, Ximena, was not so mature. Somehow I though Caro was going with another family to Cuernavaca. I'm old fashioned: my teenaged daughter would NOT have gone on that trip with another sub-developed frontal lobe teenager! See what happens!
Thank you, SpanProf for highlighting Marco's talk with his Dad. Marco's skill in suturing will obviously come in handy to win him the respect and appreciation of his fellow residents AND the Attendings! Yes, lets' see how that plays out, indeed!
Hi, Niecie! Thanks, Niece for your kind words. This is getting fun, isn't it? Daniel has got a lot of learning to do. I hope he doesn't learn that tequila is the answer like Pops seems to be showing him. The alcohol clouded the judgement of a man already inexperienced in love and sexual politics. We'll see how long the writers let him be deceived. It's not fair to Tania, though, if he continues to be weird and cold to her. Daniel needs to grow up!
Hey, Urban! What will be interesting as I noted above, is how the writers will let Tania and Daniel play out. Daniel doesn't have the experience to discern that Tania might be a woman who weilds her feminie wiles to get her way; nor does he have the self awareness to see that he had a large part in writing the "love story" between them and now he seems trapped in the "she done me wrong with my friend who took her away" fiction that Pops and the men at the bar seemed to reinforce. Oh well, It was a tension-breaker in an intense episode last night!
It’s not the first time Art bad-mouths David in front of Regina.... David is willing to do ANYTHING for Regina, whereas Art’s approach seems to be “make David look bad to make myself look better” lol
“David promises to be the passionate gift that keeps on giving” HAHAHA!! Amen!!
Lila, I loved the scene with David and Regina in the ER too! See, there’s no problems as long as Art isn’t around! Haha
David makes himself look bad on his own. With or without Arturo’s help.Or anyone’s help. It is what it is.
Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in my opinion David does not make himself look bad. He looks damn fiiiiine haha
Judy - I had the same issue with my DVR last night, it didn’t record Medicos! Very weird! I ended up watching it on the Univision app though
JudyB! Almost missed you, Girl! Where's my sweet tea! Gracias, Amiga, de verdad! I am so glad I was able to provide you with the action. I know somebody else will do the same for allof us if, gosh forbid, my
DVR should poot out one day!
. . .David promises to be the passionate gift that keeps on giving. Hang on for dear life, Regina! and enjoy the ride.
Oh, my word! I do believe I need to fan myself just thinking about the possibilities! *WINK*
Well, if it's as hot and muggy in your neighborhood, you need to fan yourself anyway LILA! Just walking around the house I break a sweat. And we have the air-conditioning on, but it's pooping out with the over 90 degree heat.
Judy, I try to think of how much I'll want a whiff of this heat about six months from now! 😊 I did it! Was wondering how people put emojis in their comments!😁
"Now Daniel knows full well that Rafa didn't know the object of his crush was Tania. So I'm guessing he's claiming his friend Rafa betrayed him because he's more comfortable blaming Rafa than Tania". Niecie, I hadn't thought of that. Of course, you are absolutely right. Rafa is the easier scapegoat, isn't he? I'm sorry to say that I still don't think Daniel realize he has no game. At least with Tania!!! :)
Diana
Lila...thank you So much. You, my dear, are a force of nature ! I am thankful for another excellent recap , and for the energy and fun you are bringing to caray. I look forward to every lilacap and all the comments your recaps generate . Thank you.
The time has come to put this one to bed and turn off the lights. . . .
Highlights of the Highlights
Nati calls for help and a nurse comes in and escorts her out. A medical team shocks Toño back to life and he is taken immediately into surgery. Ric is still alone crying over his disappointment in himself when he gets a call from his dad that they have taken Toño into surgery. The doctor comes out to Toño’s family and friends to inform them that they found the bullet lodged in Toño’s kidney. Due to the fact that his kidneys are fused together (horseshoe kidney) so is their function. Toño virtually has one kidney and needs a transplant. They do not have the luxury of time to test who would be a compatible donor. Ric willingly volunteers to donate a kidney to Toño when he is told he is Toño’s only option. The surgery takes place.
In the early time, Rafael has come by to wait on Ori. He has saved every penny he has ever made at Claudio’s and is willing to support her. She will never want for anything ever. She haughtily turns him down. She still thinks she can get Caludio back. He says “lotsa luck” with that one because Claudio and Dora have loved each other for many years. She doesn’t believe Rafael would ever have enough money to support her how she would want to be supported. If she were to go after a man with no money, she would choose somebody young. She tells him to get her another drink and to shut the door in his way out. He is dismissed. He is upset.
Claudio thanks Nati for doing what she did for him and his family. Without her help, Damián would have put them out on the street. She thinks it was the least she could do after all the damage she had done. Nati’s mother comes to support her.
Luchita is praying in the hospital chapel when Claudio and Dora join her. Claudio apologizes to her and God for what he did. They all party the “Our Father” together.
Finally, the surgery is over and the doctor comes out to talk to the family and. . .
IT IS THREE MONTHS LATER
Ric and Toño are getting dressed for their weddings. Ric is talking Toño out of wearing a long tie and into wearing a bow tie. Toño has been living at Claudio’s all this time recuperating and thanks Ric for that. Ric tells him that he and Claudio want him to know he can continue living there with them. Toño thanks him but thinks he would rather be on his own in his own world. Ric wants him to know this is his home, too. They hug.
Crucita proposes to Ivette and she says yes.
Claudio wants to marry Dora. She says that is not necessary to have a ring or a piece of paper to tell everyone how much she loves him. He wants it official so everyone is aware of it. They kiss. Toño comes to talk to them. Dora goes off to run things. Claudio wants to talk to Lichita and him so he can recognize Toño as his son. Toño tells his “señor papá” that that isn’t necessary. He thinks he is lucky as he is having Claudio’s affection, his Natita Chula and he is alive. Claudio offers to start a business for him. Toño doesn’t want that right now. One thing he learned from Claudio is that you can get ahead at a company by really working. He on,y wants Claudio to be proud of him. Claudio is. They hug.
Nati’s mother helps her get dressed. It so happens that Nati and Toño are starting the adoption process all over for Mayo. Soon he will be living with them. He will be at the wedding today. Nati’s mother offers to babysit Mayo. Nati has a better idea. Her mother can come to live with them , and they can take care of her, too.
Germán is impressed with how beautiful Luchita looks. She is so happy it is like a dream.
A sullen Damián is visited by his mother at the jail. Ori has brought hm the magazines he wanted. She finds out he is probably going to get 20 years with the bulk of the sentence coming from his scheme at Reyes Alonso. He is taken aback when Ori can only wonder how that is going to affect her. What is she going to do? He finds an article about the twins in one of the magazines. He tears it out and crumples it in his fist as he gods back to his cell.
Claudio apologizes to Ric for having been so strict with him. He explains that he was just trying to protect him from making the same mistakes he had made. Now he knows that a father should bring his kids up teaching them to follow their own road in their own way. Ric says he has nothing to forgive him for. Claudio is still his hero. They hug.
Luis is just friends with Renata and Vale. He is getting his chance to go to New York after all. His boss helped him get a job there.
Everyone has arrived at the market for the wedding. A gigantic white tent has been added to the side to accommodate the wedding .
In the meantime, Rafael is visitIng Ori who is still living at Fabi’s apartment. She asked him to come and has decided to take him up on his offer. Vale is having too many low life’s around. Rafael tells her that his offer is no longer available. As a matter of fact, he thought about what she said about finding someone younger and that is what he did. He introduces her to his much younger and gorgeous girlfriend who is also very rich. A relaxed Rafael can only smile.
THE WEDDING CEREMONY: The brides are dressed beautifully. Julia and Mayo arrange the bridal trains. Everyone cheers for the brides and grooms. Renata and Vale text each other back and forth during the ceremony. Nati tells Toño that when their marriage takes place, the adoption will be finalized and they can take Mayo home with them today. Toño almost crushes Mayo’s head when he goes to hug him. The brides and grooms are all smiles. Rings and vows are exchanged. Toño has to bite a pearl on the lasso to see if it is real. They are declared husbands and wives and they kiss to more cheers.
THE RECEPTION: Ric tells Gabi he never thought he would get married in a market but this is the The best celebration he has ever had in his life. She thanks him for allowing the ceremony to take place there with her people. Ric adds they are all his people, too. He remembers how they all showed him so much love When he had to learn how to be a waiter at Fede’s. Ric decides to make a toast. He wants to especially recognize his brother Toño. Because of him he is living the most beautiful days of his life. He thanks him for taking his place because he was able to find his mother, and marvelous people like his sister Renata, Daniel, Germán, Fed, the Morales sisters. He also thanks his father and Dora. Remedios asks what about her? Ric laughs and thanks her, too. He thanks his brother again because of it hadn’t been for him, he never would have found the love of his life, He kisses her. Toño decide it is his turn. He wants to thank everyone and starts crying as he speaks. If it hadn’t have been for Ric he never would have found such a great guy like his “señor papá” Claudio and his godmother Dora who taught him about unconditional love. He thanks Vale for loving him like a brother. He thanks Crucita, Betty, everybody. He gives special thanks to Ric, though, because he is alive and with the woman of his dreams. He thanks Ric for the kidney he gave him and if someday he needs something , he will gladly donate it to him but it better not be his liver because it is probably a little damaged. He points to his champagne glass. Ric asks everyone to toast to life! Toño says to health! He goes on to toast to “Saluchita” who he owes his life to. They all laugh and clink their glasses. It is a very happy ending indeed as the twins hug.
FIN
When I decided to provide highlights/recap this one, I never thought I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. To be honest, it was a lot of fun It was well written, well cast, well acted and the sets were interesting with so much attention to detail. Adrián Uribe did an excellent job.
I want to thank those of you who posted comments and opinions as well as those who stopped by to see what was happening with this show.
Your presence was appreciated.
A special thanks goes out to JudyB and Steve. I don’t think you guys missed a day with your comments.
Anyway, since I prefer lighter novela fare, I cannot wait to see when “La mexicana and el güero” pops up. It looks like it could be another fun one. Juan Soler is pretty easy on the eyes, too.
Yay! We got a double wedding! You can’t get much better than that. Of course, they could have added Luchita/Germán, Adán/Tina, Crucita/Ivette, Luna/Daniel and Sol/Fede. I think I got them all. Now that would have been unique but probably a bit unwieldy to film.
I was happy we got plenty of wedding/reception time and that they didn’t prolong the recovery time from the surgery. It ended up being a feel-good ending for a feel-good show.
Oriana was so nasty to Rafael I was happy when he told her his offer no longer stood and why. I was satisfied with her and Damián’s anvils just as I was with Felix’s. They seemed to be in proportion to their crimes.
JudyB, thanks for the delicious salad. You are a very talented cook. I am going to have to start making proper dinners again since our snack times have come to an end. Wah!!!!!
Jarifa, thank you for this great recap! I read it carefully in case I’d missed any plot points. I wanted to make sure I understood the wrap-up of every story.
This was a great fin. It had everything! Fabulous dresses, hair and makeup. (Can you imagine the size of the hair & makeup team?) The perfect ending for Damien, and I just loved Oriana’s comeuppance. A younger woman! Sweeeet.
The big cast was all paired up nicely with a proposal and lots of others talking of marriage. The brothers now devoted to one another. Class barriers erased.
I had thought for sure Toño would need a transfusion, but he’d turn out to have a rare blood type that only Ric could provide. But no – they went big. An entire kidney!
My only quibble is that Luzma didn’t get a big toast from her boys at the reception. Her fierce motherlove, and all that she endured, was a throughline of the whole novela.
Jarifa: Thank you very much for the recaps of this Telenovela. I enjoyed every minute of it 😊
Maggie: I think it's safe to say Carlo got away with the embezzlement & fled the country.
Now my thoughts on the Gran Final last night:
1.) I enjoyed Rafael getting even by introducing his super wealthy girlfriend Mariana & then doing a MIC DROP as he chucked up the deuce to Plastic Blondie.
Karma is a BIGLY bitch Plastic Blondie.
2.) Damian still in prison. HORRAY!
3.) Luis moving to NY St: Thank God! Now stay there & don't come back ever again.
4.) Renata & Vale texting each other 🤔
5.) Tono & Natalia adopting Mayo didn't surprise me.
6.) Ric & Fabi: AWESOME.
7.) Claudio & Dora were amazing.
8.) Luchita & German: 😚
9.) I'm assuming Julia is staying with Luna & Murrilo ?
10.) Sideburns Dude & Sol still together.
11.) Crucita & Ivette were AWESOME & they cracked me up all the time.
12.) Tina kissing Cranky Adan & Andy. Hmm: sounds like she's a freak.
13.) Dude with the weird hair needs a haircut. He & Estrella look good together.
14.) Betty looked like she was itching to pop out of that dress 😉
15.) I noticed Natalia's mother attended the wedding.
16.) That supermarket looked very big.
17.) Maggie: I do agree with you Luchita should've gotten a big toast at the wedding reception considering all of that crap she endured.
18.) Had no idea Tono was staying at Claudio's mansion. I do agree with Tono that he needed to live on his own with his Nattia Chula.
19.) Remedios attending the wedding along with Fabi's parents.
20.) Other than that, this Telenovela was AWESOME & I thoroughly enjoyed all of the episodes.
Well, JARIFA, I would say the "como tú no hay dos" could be said of you as well. You have carried so many telenovelas all on your own, going into great detail and often providing crucial cultural information as well. Not to mention recognizing and validating everyone's comments. That takes a lot of time and a lot of devotion. And this forum is especially important during this time of pandemic stress and social isolation. So a heartfelt thanks to you Snack Partner. I have never enjoyed so much food fantasizing in my life in addition to "watching" this show with a buddy. And I loved each and every thing you made. Gracias querida compañera.
I was totally delighted with the ending. I have missed these "big boda" finales of late, with everyone dressed to the nines, elaborate hairdos, forgiveness and reconciliation on everybody's part-- and marriage as a sacrament, rather than just a civil wedding that could be canceled with a divorce express degree as needed. Old School All The Time.
Particularly pleased to see Luchita with a simple but flattering hairdo and nice makeup. She looked terrific. Ditto for Dora. As always, totally charmed with Sol's late 50's outfits. I still have some of those in my back closet, from my "salad days" and I was so happy that the Wardrobe Department at Televisa evidently saved a lot of theirs also. Or else had a seamstress who could re-create them. So much fun.
Perhaps what touched my heart most was Ricardo's Toast to Life! Brindis por la Vida. So poignant during this time of the pandemic when so many are suffering and so much of life seems precarious. A reminder that we need to be deeply grateful for each day that we can still wake up, live our lives, see the sun, feel the breeze, cherish the moon and stars and yes...be lucky enough to have food for meals and inventive snacks. All the blessings that we take for granted are just that--blessings. And need to be deeply appreciated.
And we deeply appreciate you JARIFA. These shows are only fun when seen "together". And thanks to you, this one was a real romp. And so I'm proposing a "brindis por JARIFA"! Hip hip hooray and then some, Snack Partner. It was a great ride. And you made it happen.
¿Qué tal? Peeps! We mainly have the aftermath of the dramatic events of yesterday. There is a reprise of Art’s dispassionate breakup with Cecelia. She whines and begs through her push broom lashes which match her black roots. Pobrecita!
Luz Parents have spent the night in her room. We see Caro asleep with the bulky halo leg brace which painfully but necessarily stabilizes her fractured and repaired bones, the outer scar sewn together with functional, though ugly, sutures. Luz sees that Caro has awakened. Caro asks what happened. Now. I will mention them later but here is the gist of their action this morning after. Luz ties in to Caro asking why she lied to them and to observe the pain her deceit and mistrust of her parents has caused! “What you did was very bad! Do you realize the great risk you put yourself in?” Caro learns that Ximena is badly injured and Ximena’s friend, the driver, has died. Where did they meet that boy? Ximena met him in a bar! Ai Dios Mio! Caro’s Dad is, at first, somewhat silent but after a couple of rounds of Luz’s chastisement, they step outside and argue: Luz is being insensitive; this is not the time or place for her reproaches! Luz blames her husband for being too permissive with Caro: teenagers need limits! They go back and forth; Caro appeals to her Dad for mercy: isn’t what Caro has gone through enough of a lesson? Why is her Mom so hard on her? Gonzalo comes down to see the family and offers his support and comfort and tries to get Luz to see that this tragic event has happened; it could not have been avoided and Caro has learned a lesson and to trust her. Luz laments that she has not been close enough to Caro. Eventually, later in the day, Luz asks Caro to forgive her; it’s just that she was so devastated and afraid! Luz tells Caro she is the most important thing in the world to her. Cinthia goes in to see Caro and talk to her parents. Caro is in pain. Cinthia will have a nurse bring her meds. Cinthia sensitively updates Caro while she tends to the apparatus attached to Caro’s leg. The injury was indeed very serious and yes, Caro was in danger of losing her leg, but that did not happen. The healing will take months and she will need intensive therapy and rehabilitation but she can do it! Caro’s parents thank Cinthia profusely; Cinthia accepts with the gracious, no hay nada de que agradecer “no thanks is necessary.”
During a meeting with Gabriel’s Teacher, Luis and Susana learn that Gabriel is often distracted and sleepy in class; he is not finishing his homework and seems to be always on the soccer field. The three are talking outside the school; in the background is the team on the pitch, practicing. Luis and Susana sigh. Later in the hospital, Luis chats with Cinthia about how it hurts him to take something from Gabriel that he loves so much. Cinthia thinks Luis is a wonderful Father and wishes she’d had the kind of support Luis offers his son. Marco hangs around the staff area like a stray looking for something to do. Nope. Everybody is busy doing important stuff! [This would SO not happen to a Resident..whatever!]
Diego has gotten more efficient doing his shopping with his five finger discount: he’s got a list! He’s almost bused by Tania, looking for Daniel. Later we see Tania and Rafa near the bunks in the sleeping area of the all-purpose room. Rafa seems to be buzzed. Tania is buzzed too, but in a different way. She offers to boost his endorphins, right there in the bunk area; they pull close and position themselves for some mouth to mouth…when Pamela comes in! The two pull apart and Tania tries to act casual, asking Rafa if he’s seen Daniel. Nope. He leaves. Pamela asks Tania if she’s still playing with Rafa and warns her that Rafa chases all the girls. Tania blows her off. Tania finally catches up to Daniel and tries to pin him down: what is going on with him? One day he’s all warm and friendly and the next he’s cold! Daniel stammers something about being worried and in a hurry: he has to go. Tania offers to come with him, he declines, says he’s fines and runs off leaving Tania still puzzled. Everybody notices Daniel’s hang-dog demeanor. Luis tries, without success, to get him to talk and advises him ánimo to look alive, cheer up!
Cinthia eventually tricks Daniel into an ER bay and confronts him. She presses and he finally says that Tania was kissing Rafa. Cinthia is visibly shocked. Rafa is NOT going to keep playing with everyone: he’s an idiot! He beats himself up about being so stupid to think Tania could like someone like him. Cinthia tries to tell him Cinthia would still love to be with someone like him: good, loyal, honest, and hardworking! [Um, Cinthia, lose all those other words, leave the last one but take the “working “off: THAT’S what Tania wants!] No! He can’t change what happened; let her stay with Rafa! Cinthia takes off; this is NOT going to end here; Rafa is going to hear from her! Daniel stops her. He begs Cinthia not to say anything: it’s his fault for trying to be somebody he was not; he misinterpreted things and just when he was going to tell her, he sees her kissing Rafa. [Uh, you’re forgetting the part where you told Rafa it was a neighbor girl, just like you tried to tell Diego and how you made great pains to keep everybody in the hospital from knowing you liked Tania!] Cinthia gives him an affectionate hug. The worse thing is having to see her every day. Well, it’s good he realized in time. He needs to distract himself. Cinthia promises she won’t start any gossip or make a scandal, but somebody has to put Rafa in his place. She sits next to him on the gurney and lightly rubs his shoulder.
Elsewhere in the Instituto. David is with Regina as Priscila looks through the glass at her brother. Regina assures Priscila that he is stable, which is good; she must not lose patience or faith. Regina and David step aside, David suggests his sedation be lowered. Art approaches and David repeats his suggestion, deferring to Art’s decision as Ruben’s Doctor. More on this interaction later as it relates to our triangle of luuuurve! Later, at Ruben’s bedside, he reacts with a flick of his finger to Priscila’s tearful pleadings and recalling of memories from their childhood. He looks at her blankly. She screams excitedly for the Doctors. Regina and Art examine him and tell her that it is good he awakened, but he needs to continue to rest and they will monitor him through labs and other tests.
Pamela continues her strategy to heal Sr. Hector’s heart through lifting his spirits, distraction and positive mental imagery. Don Hector knows his heart disease is very serious and he is in his final days; he can’t dissuade Pamela from her chirpy optimism and basically humors her, though he does look more vibrant, sits up and reads the books she brought. Luis has a more serious conversation with her where she outlines her strategy as discussed above and argues vigorously that her approach works, despite what the tests say. “If we can change the structure of our thinking, it can change the heart! Hector is better and is going to be discharged and get past this!” Luis emphasizes that Don Hector has a terminal cardiac illness and the harm of her false expectations; he also note she is too involved with Don Hector and threatens to take her off the case for her own and Don Hector’s good! She asks him not to and sticks stubbornly to her conviction that a change of mind can lead to a change of heart. Luis warns her she must face how this is going to end. Later, Pamela finds Art in the staff room; he shares Cecelia’s begging texts with her and tells Pamela he broke up with Cecelia. Pamela tries to offer Art some therapeutic encouragement but Art is not in the mood. She excuses herself and leaves him with the thought that the curative power of therapy is in the word, and he needs to talk to someone.
Finally, Victoria and Roberto of Vega and Associates come to the Instituto and meet with David and Regina. Victoria’s specialty is family rights; Regina tells her about the previous Lawyer’s suggestion that she drop her case as Sergio was well represented. Regina is not to worry; give Victoria all the notes and documents she gave the previous Lawyer, and she will make sure Regina’s rights are well protected. Roberto’s specialty is criminal law. He listens as David explains how he came to fight with Sergio. David says he could not have been expected to stand by while that idiot disrespected Regina. Roberto says he understands more than David knows and casts a long glance at Victoria, who returns it with a slight smile. [Professional much?] Roberto further shares that people like Sergio often press these kinds of charges to scare the target and their Lawyers play along, but not to worry. David is to respond to the summons, make his declaration and Roberto will examine Sergio’s wounds to see how serious they are; leave everything to them. David says if Gonzalo recommended them, that’s good enough for him. David and Regina get their cards, shake hands and the Lawyers leave. David tells Regina that he is not worried about himself; as long as she is protected and the idiot leaves her alone, it’s worth the effort. She just wants it resolved as soon as possible. Victoria and Roberto meet with Alonso later and summarize Regina’s and David’s cases. Alonso says Gonzalo has helped him a lot and he has never had the opportunity to return the favors. He is counting on the two to do a bang up job for the Doctors! Alonso then asks how things are going with Manuel. [I’m stumped! Help, Peeps!] Roberto says not to worry. He works much better with Victoria, they are THE A TEAM! They fist bump and Roberto throws out that she’s very pretty in blue! Victoria blushes. Welp! Alonso is off; he’s got a dinner meeting with another Attorney to see how things are adding up against El Ciego! “Come what may, we’ve got to win this case!” [Is he referring to the David/Regina or El Ciego case?]
Our triangle is, well, triangulating. Back in the ICU during the conversation about Ruben’s level of sedation, Regina noted that Art was off. In front of David Art shared that he was having personal problems. Regina reminded Art that she is there for him. David seems reluctant but leaves the two to chat. Our friends are pretty transparent: Luis notes David is not quite himself. David unloads: You know what I love about surgery? Everything else disappears and I can concentrate on the thing I’m most passionate about! I know it’s ironic, but in surgery I’m at peace and tranquil, no matter how complicated the surgery is! Luis is like, okay, what else is up. David tells him about the charges pressed against him slugging Sergio due to his disrespect of Regina. David, come on, what are you, a couple of kids! Couldn’t you exercise a little tolerance? David said he was furious and defends his protecting Regina from the jerk; she doesn’t deserve it. Luis backs up a bit: Whoa, I didn’t know she meant that much to you! Of course she does; I would do it for her and anyone else who needed it! At this same moment, Art and Regina are in the ICU, outside the patient area. They talk briefly about the harsh consequences of the decision Ruben and Antonio made and how they will have a chance to remake their lives. Art says he believes life gives you second chances. Regina asks if he wants to tell her now what’s happening with him. “I broke up with Cecelia.” Cara semi-impactada de Regina.
correction
Cinthia tries to tell him Cinthia would still love to be with someone like him...
Cinthia tries to tell him Tania would still love to be with someone like him...
Dangonnit! Proofread and still screw up!
A few thoughts:
Wow, Luz was out cold! As a Mother, I understand how she feels, but, DANG, try a little tenderness before you start beating the girl's arse for disobeying and scaring you!
Demerits for Daniel. He's not drunk now. No excuse for continuing to drag Rafa around when he KNOWS he made great pains to make sure nobody knew it was one of the Residents he liked and that he told Rafa it was a neighborhood girl. Stop pissing down your leg and grow up, Danny boy!
David, baby, why did you say you would do what you did for Regina for anyone else who needed it? Are you denying your feelings? Well, I guess there's no need to profess your love for Regina to Luis, but like Daniel, we see your thumping heart right through your white coat!
Art. Your X of two minutes is home probably decided whether to jump off of something high or ingest something and you're thinking about second chances. This is bad form, Regina, keep him firmly in the FRIEND ZONE!!
No te preocupes, Lila, that happens to all of us.
Great start on the 5-finger discount comment. However, I can't see Diego getting away with this for much longer unless this will have the cliffhanger of him being caught and becoming the prime suspect when the big deficits are discovered.
For those who didn't watch PASL, Roberto and Victoria Shakespeare-flirted (as in Much Ado About Nothing)their way over two seasons to become a couple at the end of Season 2, so we could possibly see this happen with Regina and her two suitors.
Luz' freakout was genuine, but I think some family therapy is in order for her and hers. Being stricter with her daughter will not help this situation one bit, especially since the young man died and Ximena was also badly hurt. Luz' husband seems like the mighty oak of that family and he will have to be strong here.
As will Lucas. Things are not looking well in his family at the moment, either.
El Ciego...I guess they didn't want to wait until Season 3 of PASL.
Another fun, no holds barred recap, LILA. Thanks so much. Always an enjoyable read. And oh my, I share your pain over the typos and glitches that slip past us, even when we proofread. They just DO. And everybody knows what you really meant, so no problem.
Totally agree with this:
"As a mother, I understand how she feels, but DANG, try a little tenderness before you start beating the girl's arse for disobeying and scaring you."
Ugh, yes. Luz' harping was totally unnecessary. LIFE already gave Caro a powerful lesson. And then Luz starts in on her husband, blaming him! Everybody knows that teenager's brains are shutdown for remodeling during the teen and early twenty years. And if they survive, it's due to dumb luck, not a parents' strictness. Young people just do not envisage long term, or even short term consequences very well. But an accident like that certainly taught Caro all she needs to know.
And you really made me laugh with this:
Stop pissing down your leg and grow up, Danny boy!
Yeah, I feel for the guy. Love and rejection can really hurt. And in terms of experience, he's like a 12-year-old boy. This is his first time in the Love Gone Wrong Sweepstakes and it's tough. But he's at work and needs to pull it together.
Do get a little crazy with all the emotional meddling and HOW ARE YOU REALLY? going on in this story. In the real world of work, who has time for all that? But this is a telenovela hospital so the rules are different.
Now if we can just tone down chirpy little Pam a bit. Relentlessly pushing the Positive Attitude message can really guilt and burden people dealing with illnesses, especially terminal ones. She needs to let up on the accelerator a tad. Lordy!
Thanks Gracious and Very Funny Scribe. You're doing a terrific job with this.
Urban! I'm always heartened to see you respond early, oh Thou Gold-Standard Recapper! No, I'm serious! Thank you!
Urban, Diego has been almost busted how many times? They could maybe give us a couple of shots of the poor, ill-equipped dispensary and maybe give us at least a one-episode story line in his village to help build sympathy. As it stands, he's not looking very sympathetic or noble. ITA, maybe they're saving him for the big BUST!
Oh, so Roberto and Victoria are a couple? Is Manuel their child? Please, novela gods, don't let it take two seasons for Regina and David to get together! NNOOOOOOOO!!!!
El Ciego....hmmm, must be a piece of work! He'd better not come and kill any of the Instituto peeps! I don't know who he is, but he sounds like the kind of bad hombre Rene could get mixed up with, intentionally or unintentionally!
So, Urban. I notice as well that the TV says #31. Does this mean that a whole episode worth of content is on the cutting room floor? Thanks!
Gracias, SpanProf! I know Rafa is a dawg, but I think he's serious about Cinthia, but like in the song, Atomic Dog (George Clinton, Google it), he can't help but chase the cat, if you know what I mean. Dang! He has TOTALLY blown it now! I'm sorry, I can't hate Rafa. I want him to be happy. Somehow he's got to fix that indiscipline that makes him chase chemical and orgasmic highs! I'm going to try to hang with you, Rafa!
Hey, JudyB! How am I doing with streamlining? Thank you SO MUCH, Judy!
Everybody knows that teenager's brains are shutdown for remodeling during the teen and early twenty years. And if they survive, it's due to dumb luck, not a parents' strictness. So true! Caro is going to carry the physical and emotional scars of that tragic accident for the rest of her life! Luz was so hard, it was almost as if she was punishing Caro for being distant from her, and maybe Miguel too for having a closer relationship with Caro than SHE had! Jeezopete!
Now if we can just tone down chirpy little Pam a bit. Relentlessly pushing the Positive Attitude message can really guilt and burden people dealing with illnesses, especially terminal ones. She needs to let up on the accelerator a tad. Lordy!
Pam has replaced poor Don Hector's face with that of her Grandpa. Hector seems to have lived a good life and accepts that he's ready for whatever comes next. Pam is going to melt down when that sweet old gentleman transitions!
Judy, thank you! Thank all of you. You don't know what YOU ALL are doing for me in sharing this story with you. That you get something out of it too is icing on the cake! Gracias!
Don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but Imperio De Mentiras starts on September 21st at 9pm/8c. It’ll begin in Mexico on the 14th.
Maggie, “they went big” was true with the kidney transplant. I never expected, them to go there, either. I also got “educated” about “horse shoe kidney”. That was something I had never heard of. Funny that you mentioned that a toast to Luchita would have been so fitting because when Toño stopped talking and the toasting started, I was wondering why he didn’t mention Luchita. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Steve, You are welcome! Your comment about Luis moving to New York “ Thank God! Now stay there & never come back ever again.” made me laugh out loud. I loved how Luis was all seated by his lonesome at the wedding. There aren’t enough novelas like this one that have a heart but can still deliver a few good laughs per episode.
JudyB, you are too kind with your comments. Thank you. It was my pleasure to keep this one going. I also found providing highlighting/recapping this a welcome distraction. I agree that the blog is its own little oasis In these troubling times. We are lucky to have it. This novela provided a wonderful escape. The premise of this novela was so silly but it was fascinating seeing how they made it work with a beanie moment here and there along with mostly charming characters. I was also very pleased with the ending and the fact that it wasn’t rushed. I, too, have missed the “big happily ever after weddings” that are not as common as they once were. I was also liked by Sol’s outfit(s) . They did pay a lot of attention to detail throughout the production. Yes, the toasts were inspirational and sure hit home more than they normally would have. Thanks for your toast to me, amiga. You made my day! As for our snacks, they were epic! I know I never grew up and am always ready to play. Thanks for joining me on the “snack” playground. Just think of the novela we could write with our imaginations!
Superb Lila.
"push broom lashes" were perfection as was "Our triangle is, well, triangulating". Most excellent.
"Marco hangs around the staff area like a stray looking for something to do". No motivation whatsoever.
Luz’ admonishments should have waited. Caro has been through enough and I warrant her lesson has been learned. Luz should have enveloped her with a hug and told Caro how much she loves her. No need to heap on more guilt.
Also, did anyone else notice Luz' contorted facial expression as Gonzalo tried to comfort her? It was as though she shrank from his touch which of course would not be the case. Color me confused.
"Demerits for Daniel. He's not drunk now. No excuse for continuing to drag Rafa around when he KNOWS he made great pains to make sure nobody knew it was one of the Residents he liked and that he told Rafa it was a neighborhood girl". Exactly. Get a grip dude. Your self pity is now off putting. No one is a mind reader and if you had been honest, you would not be nursing your own self inflicted wound.
Luis and family are headed for some disasterous downturn.
I admit I like Pamela very much. I like her honesty and spunk and I feel I should take a page from her relentlessly optimistic playbook.
Am hoping Cece is now gone for good!
My guide is showing Medicos for 2 hours tonight!!!
Diego's misguided confidence has escalated. He's making lists of what to pilfer? Ack. Unfathomable.
Lila, you are wonderful to provide these stellar, engrossing recaps. Thank you, thank you!
Diana
Jarifa, I cannot pretend to understand anything about this, but I love happy endings and your beautifully written summary conveyed that perfectly.
A last minute medical crisis, "They do not have the luxury of time to test who would be a compatible donor. Ric willingly volunteers to donate a kidney to Toño" happily resolved.
And it seems beautiful weddings as well - "They all laugh and clink their glasses. It is a very happy ending indeed as the twins hug".
As Judy so beautifully noted, "you have carried so many telenovelas all on your own, going into great detail...Not to mention recognizing and validating everyone's comments. That takes a lot of time and a lot of devotion. And this forum is especially important during this time of pandemic stress and social isolation". Indeed.
Your presence is a vital and greatly appreciated one here. Reading your recaps has always been a highlight of my day. We are so fortunate and blessed to have you.
Diana
RE: PASL crossover
If I remember correctly, Manuel is one the young lawyers or assistant to the main lawyers. He got shot in the penultimate episode of season two. I assume they’re talking about the same Manuel.
Lila, thank you, thank you.
I wrote a long comment and lost it. I will just say that the telenovela formula is always two or more people desiring the same person . I then listed all the objects of desire. You need a white board to plot it all out. It reminds me of 9th grade study hall. Jane wants Johnny , but Johnny wants Sandy , but Sandy wants Bobby...
Diana!!! Hola y gracias! I think we are all in agreement about Luz' reaction! Luz couldn't contain her frustration because, remember, neither her husband, Miguel nor Gonzalo when she talked to him seemed realistic in their assurances that "everything will be fine!" and then, what she feared most came true. Oh, well. I hope there is healing ahead for her relationship with Caro along with Caro's leg. Caro is going to need lots of support. The Instituto should hire another Social Worker to help Luz. It is ridiculous that there is only one for the whole Instituto....It's only a novela, only a novela!
Yes! I did notice Luz shrinking from and trying not to be in her body when Gonzalo hugged her. If that was the real actors interaction, that's unfortunate! Maybe, she does harbor some resentment as I said above that Gonzalo didn't and doesn't understand her point of view. Luz really feels this accident COULD have been prevented, if Caro had listened to her Mother!
I've seen others on the Patio think Luis' family is headed for a disaster. You could be right! OMG, with the fatigue, distraction and sleepiness, I hope poor Gabriel doesn't have a brain tumor or something. I know that's a dramatic jump, but this IS a novela!
TWO HOURS!!! YKES!!! I'll check! YEP, it IS!! Looks like time for bullet points on this one!
MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS, Diana!
, thank you so much! Wow! Crossover. It makes sense if these stories all take place in and around Mexico City. It lends a feel of realism for the characters' lives to cross!
Hey, Susanlynn! Oh, gosh darnit! If you are able, please compose your comment on a text editor like Notepad or even put it in a Word document if it is a long comments. Save it, copy it to the clip board, then post. It's always there if Blogger eats it! I would've loved to see that, but heck, stuff happens! Yah, like life there are often tangled love interests. I just want MY two love interests to get some screen and lovin' time, goldarnit! Thank you, Susanlynn!
Yes, there is an episode's worth of time on the cutting room floor so far, but nothing of any real importance.
Manuel was a newly hatched lawyer at Vega who was shot either by El Ciego or one of his henchmen.
El Ciego is a drug kingpin with a very long rap sheet. He will be defended by a lawyer he corrupted who does not know that he is responsible for the death of his ex-novia.
Diana, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate the compliments. I think we are all instrumental in making Caray the special place it is. : ) Here is hoping a light and happy novela is somewhere on the horizon sooner rather than later.
Thanks, Lila. I've had it up to here with Daniel. Big baby.
Nice to see the Vega lawyers from PASL. Victoria is still wearing her cocktail dresses for business I see.
Two hours tonight? Yikes! Lila, take it easy on yourself.
Agree, Susanlynn! I didn't see PASL either; can't wait to see how this shakes out.
Good information, UnOp! I wasn't paying attention! So maybe Medicos will be at 8? Won't hurt my feelings! Some Caray Peeps will answer.
I didn’t watch PASL either, but I figured Roberto and Victoria were a couple because when they were walking in Roberto was telling her she would look really good in a nurses uniform lol. There was also a point when they’re in the break room and Roberto asks David how bad the injuries were and David says “I barely touched him.” I thought it was funny lol
Medicos will be two hours now (starting tonight) and has a total of 87 episodes so if there’s 50ish episodes left that makes sense if there’s less than four weeks until IdM starts.
Lila, et al. Sorry to have been MIA for the last few days. Thank you for the most excellent reportage, comments and analysis.
Did anyone pick up on Cinthia calling Rafa a mujeriego and warned her not to have anything to do with him--at the same time that we know from PASL I & II, that Victoria called Roberto the same thing and even thought they both promised to "change" if the woman made a commitment to them? We know Vic and Bobby work well together, but will Tania, Cinthia and Rafa? They STILL couldn't quite get to the -- Rafa didn't know the girl Daniel was interested in was Tania, even though he tried. Telling Daniel the "kiss" he saw meant nothing, was not the right way to tell him he had a clear path to Tania. Daniel is so hurt, the truth won't make any difference now.
I noticed the change in the length of the episodes, not sure about Thursday, but definitely for Friday. I think we're in for a lot of Medicos running around.
Jarifa: I noticed that because they're now in Ultimas Semanas & things are heading towards impactful events.
I see all you guys discussing the timing of Medicos, etc. Let me post last night's episode, get on the clock and see you all later. Thank you all so very much!!
Greetings, All. I extend my prayers and sincerest wishes for safety, refuge and help for all those in the path of this storm! Peeps, Scenes are combined and condensed in this double episode and, as always, I invite you to correct, add, or flesh out any parts you like that will add to our understanding and enjoyment of the story.
Regina, David and Gonzalo with Vega and Associates. The A TEAM Law Firm of Vega and Associates delivers! Victoria and Regina meet with Sergio and his Attorney and Gonzalo meets with Alonso later in the day. Not only does Victoria demand Sergio respect her client, she plows past Sergio’s insults and insinuations by citing the law which protects Regina’s rights to monetary compensation and wraps up the divorce with a million peso settlement to boot! Once alone Regina expresses her thanks and resolves to be done with love and relationships. Victoria asks why Sergio is hostile towards David. Regina answers he’s just a good friend who was helping her move. It is one of several times Regina defends David’s impulsivity by describing him as someone with a big heart who would not hesitate to help anyone in need. Victoria counsels her to not close the door on love just yet but give herself time to pursue her passion and rebuild her life. Victoria also shares a bit about her love life. As they part, Victoria declines payment; don’t worry, it is all taken care of. Later Regina tells Cinthia how awesome Victoria was, forcing Sergio to accept and sign the divorce agreement!
David and Roberto meet at the Ministerio Publico with Sergio, in a neck brace, and a different Attorney. Roberto exposes Sergio as a liar who is exaggerating his injuries by showing a picture (stealthily taken earlier in the day by Victoria) without the brace. David makes his statement. Roberto demonstrates that Sergio followed Regina to her apartment with the intent of acting aggressively against her; David defended Regina against who knows what. Rather than charging David with assault, Sergio should have charges brought against him! [Here’s where you can help, Peeps. I think the charges were successfully dropped against David. Case closed! Is that right?] Once alone, Roberto gets to the heart of the matter between David and Regina. David tells him that as much as he wished it were otherwise, there is nothing between them. Regina is strong, intelligent, decisive and her beauty “steals my attention.” David says that because of Sergio, Regina is closed to moving on with someone else. Roberto tells him the most difficult romantic pursuits are the best; he shouldn’t let what happened with Sergio stop him from getting close to Regina. David says every time he tries to get close to her, he loses control and blows it! Roberto thinks losing control over a good woman is a positive sign. “If you stop denying what you feel for Regina, the relationship will flow very well; perhaps you are putting the brakes on when you’re with her. Give her time; tell her what you feel. When we repress feelings like this, sooner or later it turns to pain. They part with thanks and mutual pledges of support. More on David and Regina later.
Gonzalo meets with Alonso later in the afternoon and thanks him for supporting David and Regina. Alonso also draws Gonzalo out on his personal life. Apparently Aurora remarried and Felipe, their son, sees the other man as his father, rejecting Gonzalo. Alonso offers his support, expresses gratitude for Gonzalo’s help with his wife [who succumbed to cancer?] and Manuel [Please fill in here, Peeps!]
Pamela offers Art more of her impromptu psychotherapy: what he felt for Cecelia was not love; he needs to think about what led him to that kind of dependent relationship where he is the rescuer. She hopes he can meet someone so he can really know what true love is. Art appreciates Pam’s skill and says she will be a fine Psychiatrist: what will make the difference is her natural disposition to really listening to people. In other action, Pamela continues to prescribe sunshine to Hector. She draws close to him at his bedside; he takes her hand and tells her, “It has been a great pleasure to meet you. Precious child, I thank you for bringing me light in my final days.” Pamela smiles through misty eyes and tries to brush it off with her usual cheer. Later that day Luis’ expression is all she needs to know what has happened. She falls to her knees at Don Hector’s bedside; he has slipped into his final slumber. She sobs. Luis gives her time but then commands her to follow him. They go outside the hospital where he encourages her to SCREAM her pain and anguish! He consoles her and tells her this is a pain all Physicians feel and it hurts and it’s worse the first time, but she doesn’t have to go through it alone. He offers her his shoulder to sob on.
Daniel, Tania and Rafa. Cinthia confronts Rafa and refuses to believe or even listen to him that he didn’t know Tania was the girl he was advising Daniel on. Daniel sticks to his fabrication that Rafa betrayed him and is nasty and dismissive when Rafa tries to talk to him. Rafa tells Tania the truth and she realizes why Daniel turned cold. He is also frosty and self-righteously snippy with her. Rafa manages to crack Cinthia’s angry defenses a little latter in a humorous scene with her while she tends Caro’s wound. Tania gets assigned to Cinthia later in the day and Cinthia SLAMS her with a tremendous work load. Tania tries to confront her; what is this about? Cinthia says she doesn’t owe an R1 (first year Resident) ANY explanations! At the end of the work day Cinthia extends Tania’s assignment, assuring she will be at the hospital most of the night.
Rene tries to threaten David with reporting him to the Board or even refusing to sign his paychecks if he continues to provoke scandals which damage the Instituto’s reputation. David is not phased, basically tells Rene to stuff it; breaks one of his pencils, throws it on Rene’s desk and takes his nuts and leaves with an air of mockery and defiance.
Art sees a young girl with rheumatic fever so advanced, she will need a heart transplant. The girl, Flor, remarks sadly that one moment she was thinking about planning her quinceañera, and now she doesn’t know if she will live or not! Art makes a personal pledge to insure she will get a donor heart; will make her quinceañera and he’ll even by the dress. Art asks Luz’s help to gather resources to pay for the transplant and (I think part was edited out) enlists Regina’s help to plan the party for Flor. [Need help here, Peeps!] Art is all stoked and a bit more about this later.
Luz spends the night in Caro’s room. Luz works from the room and Caro understands, for the first time, what her Mother does. Caro is particularly touched by Flor’s case and understands now why her Mother was absent so much; she was doing such important, noble things! Caro expresses admiration for her Mother. Luz grasps her hand and is very moved. Luz is more tender with Caro today and reframes the scars on Caro’s legs as a memory of something difficult that she was able to survive. “In years to come, when you look at them, you will realize you can overcome any obstacle that life throws at you.” Other stuff. Ruben is better, makes up with Antonio; pledges to Antonio and sister, Priscila, they will be a family. Gonzalo covered for David during the first part of his shift so David could make his declaration. Ana bitches about David coming in late to his OPC shift. He tells her about the case. Oh, watch out, Regina wants something in return: she warns David he needs to think twice if all this kind of trouble is worth the effort and if who he’s doing it for is worth it as well. [Whatever, mooing cow!—sorry, Cows!] Marco practices suturing with fabric stretched on a needlework hoop…with his eyes closed! Luis sees him, pauses, smiles and walks away. Marco opens his eyes and realizes Luis was watching and has his own satisfied smile.
Regina and Art. Early in the day, Art told Regina he realized that what he had with Cecelia was not what she wanted in her life. Regina is glad he’s thinking of himself. At every opportunity, Art seeks to shape an image of the two of them as having so many shared values and being compatible in their manner of being. Not like that David! He even tells her he cannot see how Regina can stand David which gives Regina another opportunity to defend David’s character as different and difficult sometimes but part of a big, caring heart, even a tenderness that makes him an essential part of their team. [Regina, of course, hears herself saying these things; Art may not realize his attacks give Regina a chance to more deeply appreciate David’s character as she defends him.] As stated earlier, he recruits Regina to help with a party for Flor. They share the final scene in which they have been chatting about the unhappy ending of the relationships with their respective mates. Regina tells Art he deserves to be happy. Art says if he’s learned anything from working in medicine, it’s that life can change from one moment to the next. Yes, he will give himself the chance to be happy with a special woman: Perhaps that woman is closer than one thinks.
Regina and David have their moments. Prior to the meeting with the Lawyers, David sees Regina plugging away and tells her she must get some rest. She is anxious about that very meeting. He assures her it will go well. Regina says she is more worried about his case. She asks him to forgive her; he is going through all of this just because he tried to help her. Don’t worry; Roberto explained everything, and he is at peace about it. Seriously? Regina asks? Yes, he answers. Regina sighs and throws her arms around David and squeezes him; his muscular arms and large hands clasp her at the back; he closes his eyes and takes in this sweet, unexpected moment. “Bien, bien, bien, bien, bien!” Regina sighs. He looks at her after she breaks the embrace, that gentle, unsmiling mirada of quiet passion. “Thank you, thank you for worrying about me.” “Well, we’re a team, aren’t we?” [This is that denial of feelings Roberto so perceptively picked up in just a few minutes talking to David]. Art comes up with his impeccable bad timing…whatever, he’s had his two minutes of fame in this recap. David parts with this, “Que rico abrazo!” What a delicious embrace! Regina chuckles. [Yah, Baby!!]
Another moment is after Rene’s attempt to intimidate David. Regina cranks her neck as David describes this encounter and she apologizes. David says don’t worry, Rene has always been an insufferable idiot. Changing the subject, how did it go with Sergio? Victoria is great; she described what happened. One thing she wants to warn him about. David moves in closer; Sergio was very angry and she is afraid he will want to retaliate against David. “Regina, if what I did will free you from Sergio, I would do it over again a thousand times; so don’t worry about me.” We are serenaded into a break about how good it is when I’m with you…..
Finally, just before he goes to tell Ana he will be late to the OPC the next day, he and Regina chat. He is going to tell Ana so she doesn’t come bitching at Regina. It’s always something with her, CARAY! That’s why I’m going to deal with it. She’s very amicable with me. Amicable? Define amicable, Regina says. Well, she likes to work with me. Oh, yeah? “But don’t worry; I’m not going to leave your side. I belong here.” “Well, I’m glad she values your work and likes to work with you.” David leaves and, what is that expression on Regina’s face. Is she celoso?
Well, Peeps, that’s it. Now, I’m going to take recapper’s privilege. Yes, recapper! I’m ready for some bodices to be ripped up in this piece; lacking that, I’m going to reprise the David and Regina hugging scene, because I’m Team David and I can!!
THE BEGINNING
Regarding the change in time. Thanks, everybody! Thank you, Anita! Yep. Thursday is one hour but Friday is two hours! Oh, well. When you come back to the Patio, you gets what you gets from Univision! Man! Ok. Well. I'll deal with it as it comes. These two episodes I covered last night felt choppy! Goldarnit!
Great work, Lila. Double headers are a bitch. However, Ana is worse.
We have not seen the last of Sergio; I am certain of this. I shudder every time I see him.
I have a very bad feeling about Flor's case.
Pamela needs to learn professional detachment, but not to Ana's degree. Ana seems to think of patients as chassis on an assembly line.
Muchisimas gracias, Urban! Uuuufh! That Ana works my nerves! What a bitter piece of work!
ITA, Sergio is not done. I am afraid he's going to come for David in a cowardly, dangerous way!
Art surprised me with his personal guarantee of aheart for Flor and this party planning business. I guess we're supposed to take this as he has a new lease on life after dumping Ceceilia (whom I forgot to mention -- oooops!)
Interesting observation on Pam and Ana; they are definitely two ends of the continuum!
Thanks, Urban!
Thank you Lila! I loved your description of the David and Regina scenes!! They are adorable!! Also wanted to point out, the scene where David gives her some of the peanuts he took from Rene lol, as he walks away he says “que linda estas” (you look very pretty) and she has a huge smile and says “gracias!”. And Regina was most definitely celosa that Ana likes working with David lol.
Seriously, Art needs to shut up about David. Alll he does is talk bad about David! Also, I have a bad feeling about the fact the Art PROMISED Flor they would find her a heart. That’s quite the commitment.. even Luz said she would do everything possible to find her a heart, but never promised that they would actually get a heart.. you shouldn’t promise something like that..
David/Sergio- basically Roberto turned the charges around. Sergios lawyer claimed his injuries were preventing him from working. After Roberto exposed that Sergio was exaggerating with the neck brace, he said that even though both David and Sergio hit each other, the injuries did not prevent Sergio from working. However, since David is a medical surgeon, this incident actually could have serious consequences in his job, so actually instead of bringing charges against David, the charges should be against Sergio! (According to Roberto). So the judge tells Sergio if they move forward they will bring charges against him, so the charges are dropped against David and case closed!
Recapping two straight hours is nearly impossible yet you made this seem extraordinarily easy. Amazing.
Lila, you had me going from one end of the wide spectrum of emotions to the other in seconds flat!
My eyes filled at "Precious child, I thank you for bringing me light in my final days" yet "[Whatever, mooing cow!—sorry, Cows!]" had me smiling moments later.
I enjoyed every scene of the shrew lawyers giving Sergio his comeuppance. I love Altair Jarabo!! Can we but hope we've seen the last of Sergio?? No?? I'm hoping he and Cece meet and hook up never to darken our screens again.
"David is not phased, basically tells Rene to stuff it; breaks one of his pencils, throws it on Rene’s desk and takes his nuts and leaves with an air of mockery and defiance". Yes, he also took the BAG of nuts. Loved it. :)
Still loving Pamela who "offers Art more of her impromptu psychotherapy" and "cotinues to prescribe sunshine to Hector". For her own self preservation, it is imperative she learn to keep her emotions somewhat in check. She possesses an uncanny ability to bond with and put her patients at easy. A tender heart that I hope will not toughen much.
"At the end of the work day Cinthia extends Tania’s assignment, assuring she will be at the hospital most of the night". Such a childish reaction is well beneath Cinthia. And while I'm not his biggest fan, had to smile at Rafa making Cin smile as he begins to inch back into her good graces (which will likely not be easy BTW).
The blame for the Tania/Cinthia/Rafa/Daniel debacle falls on Daniel. His churlish, childish (notice a theme here??) assumptions and reactions befit a 8th grader, not an up and coming physician. His social and emotional growth is stunted. He needs to move out from under his parents roof and grow up.
And while I’m not sure this will ever provide the “bodice ripper” action you noted, even a more chaste tear in the old surgical gown would be appreciated.
"He looks at her after she breaks the embrace, that gentle, unsmiling mirada of quiet passion". Just lovely Lila.
Savored every syllable. Thank you Lila!!!
Diana
Maybe it’s still early or it just isn’t a concern for the writers, but is workplace bullying ever going to be addressed? Whether it’s to one’s own personal benefit, revenge or the whole “I paid my dues so should they” and the slew of other reasons going on, this show glorifies workplace bullying. Cinthia dumping all of her work on Tania yesterday just because she’s jealous of her and getting revenge for Daniel is stupid. There should be an HR protecting the workers there, because what Cinthia did is corrupt. There’s a fine line between trying to teach someone their job, to dumping all of your work on them just because you don’t like them and so on. Even if Tania was using Daniel for her work before, he wasn’t forced to do it, whereas here Cinthia is expecting her work to get done without questions. Tania should report her, especially now that Rafael cleared up why it’s happening.
Every time Regina defends David by describing him as a “special” or “different” person, she almost sounds like a victim who justifies their own abuse and refuses to see the flaws in the abuser. David’s impulsivity may have gotten his patients ahead many times, but there’s also a line between being impulsive and being aggressive. David so far has been showing that he needs anger management. Violently flipping the papers at the office when the officers came to hand him the subpoena- did he even pick those back up, or was it left for Regina or some nurse to do it? Talking passive aggressively to a superior and ending the conversation with a final break of a wooden pencil in one hand? That says more about David, even if Rene was egging him on (and honestly the conversation was something you can expect from an annoying superior- David was the one prolonging the interaction trying to blow Rene off and walking away, which is unprofessional). David needs to calm down and just let things go. He won’t always have Regina or anyone else warning him he’s going overboard and needs to calm down. Does Regina really need to worry about someone who can light up like a fuse in the ER? How far would his anger go if there was no one to tell him to calm down? Like in the ER when Regina made a decision and David contested it, would he have kept arguing like he did if Arturo didn’t meddle? Maybe some of you see it as boyish charm or can look past it because he’s the galán titled for Regina, but any sane person seeing how David is acting out in the workplace recently would logically avoid him. And ditto that for any woman who wants to get romantically involved. David exhibits preliminary toxic behavior, no matter how good of a person or doctor he is. He has a good heart, but who’s to say he won’t turn into Sérgio when things don’t go his way? We obviously know that he won’t, but just logically speaking, who’s to say?
Scenes cut by Univision
Pamela at her parents house asking her mom for magazines so she can take them to Hector
David suturing a patient with Marco standing next to him silently. David “Dr Zavala, you’re awfully quiet today.” Marco “you told me not to talk unless I had something important to say”. David to the patient “Beginners...”. David gets paged to René’s office and Marco offers to finish suturing the patient. Reluctantly, David leaves Marco to finish attending the patient.
Anon: I'm getting ticked off at Univision cutting all of the good scenes from the Telenovelas like "MEDICOS" & others.
Yes, I agree that Cinthia was totally unprofessional in how she dealt with Tania. Tania and Rafa are two single, consenting adults who have both stated that they are "just having fun," enjoying their flirting and booty calls. Period. Cinthia is hot and cold with Rafa (more cold than hot) and Tania considered Daniel to be very much in the friend zone, but even if all that weren't true and Tania was deliberately trying to "take him away" from Cinthia, she (Cinthia) would be wrong for reacting the way she did. Using her position of power over Tania to exact revenge (especially since she didn't do anything wrong) was way out of line. One shouldn't mix the personal with the professional. Not cool, Cinthia. Not cool at all.
Maybe Marco can use his excellent suturing skills and plastic surgeon aspirations to fix Caro's leg so she won't be left with a horrible scar. She's a teenager and despite what Luz told her about embracing her scars so she is reminded of how strong she is for having survived this ordeal, most high school kids don't care about all that and she will be bullied about it.
And, come on, writers. Let's turn the page on Daniel's butt-hurt, "woe is me" attitude. It's been milked and dragged out long enough. Besides, if it was Rafa and Tania who "betrayed" him, why is he taking it out on the rest of the hospital? What a toddler! Stick a fork in it, it's done!
Thank you, UnOp! This:
Also wanted to point out, the scene where David gives her some of the peanuts he took from Rene lol, as he walks away he says “que linda estas” (you look very pretty) and she has a huge smile and says “gracias!”.
Aaaaah!
UnOp, I was very surprised by Art's personal promise and committment. I know we haven't seen him much in his Cardiology role, most in his trauma medicine role, but this seems out of character for him. It sure does seem like a set up for disaster!
UnOp Thank you for the clarification on the charges! I thought that was what I heard. This is so hlpful to have you clear this up, especially since, believe it or not, this was supposed to be bullet points! I won't repeat you whole comment. Peeps, go back and read what UnOp said at 1:22! Gracias!
Lila. Wow ..recapping a double episode ...so Yellowstone will say it twice ..thank you ...thank you.
I loved the way the two clever lawyers shut Sergio down . Snap .
My favorite part was David walking out the door with Rene's nuts . Rene really does seem to think that hev is all that and a bag of nuts, doesn't he ? Well, look who's got your bag of nuts now, buddy, and he is sharing it with Reg. HA
Diana! I LOVE tucking in to your comments! You make the effort so worthwhile!
Yes, David seemed to emasculate Rene with that simple gesture. What a jerk Rene is!
And Pamela is quite something, isn't she? It's funny how she's almost done a role reversal on Art, counseling him in his love life: And he seems to listen and act on it!
Yeah, I'm disappointed in Daniel but, on second thought, he IS immature. Silly boy. His social and emotional growth is stunted. He needs to move out from under his parents roof and grow up. FULL STOP.
And while I’m not sure this will ever provide the “bodice ripper” action you noted, even a more chaste tear in the old surgical gown would be appreciated.
HAHAHAHAHAH! Thank you, Amiga!
SpanProf! Hey, Kid! Gracias, de verdad! Yah, Sergio owned himself with that stupid neck brace trick. That's why Regina is frightened for David. People who make fools of themselves are quick to take that anger out on others!
Thank you for this.
I liked the way Caro was amused by Rafa's and Cinthis's interaction. Being in the hospital is boring! I also like the way Caro and Luz are bonding--Caro is definitely going to come out of this crisis as an even better person.
That was an unexpected source of levity and very effective! Cinthia ended up giving Caro advice about men. Cinthia and Rafa's interaction gave Caro some needed distraction from her painful womb. That was great!
Yah, David breaking Rene's pencil and then taking his nuts was an act it seemed targeted to annoy the "insufferable idiot" that David assesses Rene to be. And it worked, Rene was trying to put the pencil back together. The nut double entendre is just a cherry on top! That was hilarious!
Art described rheumatic fever as an autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakes the body's own tissues, in this case the connective tissue in Flor's heart, as an enemy. Remember, I'm not a Doctor and I don't play one even on this blog, that's just what Art said. Here's what the Mayo Clinic says: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/rheumatic-fever/symptoms-causes/syc-20354588
Thanks, SpanProf!!
Hey, Anon@ 1:52. Well, I hear you about workplace bullying, but a good deal of medical education would be reinterpreted and the whole enterprise would shut down. Residents have at times gone on strike over the brutal hours they work and other issues. What looks like bullying would be seen as part of the culture and if a Resident didn't like it, they could leave and ruin their medical career. Failure to meet the expectations of the Residency which medical students fiercely compete for, could also lead to their being fired again, derailing their career. I hear ya, though.
Hey, Anon! Rene is a rightful target of David's contempt. I know David doesn't know it but Rene is a lying, thieving, hypocrite. He's got a lot of nerve to threaten to hold up David's pay or report him to the Board when he is personally enriching himself by taking kickbacks from medical suppliers, and profiting from the purchase of inferior equipment which will eventually be used on patients and possibly endanger someone's life.
Thanks for adding to the Patio patter but, I still love me some David so... I can't wait to see the budding romance between him and Regina!
Oh, and thanks for those cut scenes! Marco may get on our nerves, but he's still one of the Residents and his story deserves to be told. I knew when he talked to his Dad and said sutures were his thing it would come in to play. Darn them!
Anon@2:42. I stand by my comment above on workplace bullying which is made in the context of real life residency, but when you put Cinthia's behavior in the context of the novela, it's something different. All your points are well taken and spot on.
Here is exactly what I thought would happen with Marco's suturing skills:
Maybe Marco can use his excellent suturing skills and plastic surgeon aspirations to fix Caro's leg so she won't be left with a horrible scar. She's a teenager and despite what Luz told her about embracing her scars so she is reminded of how strong she is for having survived this ordeal, most high school kids don't care about all that and she will be bullied about it.
Yep. That could still happen and one reason why I hate they cut the scene you referenced above. Oh, well. Yah, and add me to those tired of Daniel!
Hi, susanlynn! Thank you! I hear this is going to be happening a lot! I had forgotten about this from years back when I recapped. Jeezopete! I really appreciate how interactive everybody is being with their takes on characters and scenes and missing action. It helps a lot!
I enjoyed David's standing up to Rene as well. What the hell is the reputation of the Instituto going to be when Rene's corruption is uncovered? Hypocritical bastard!
Thanks, Susnlynn!
Is Art a cardiologist? I don’t remember that being said before... I didn’t think he was because the time Luis (a cardiologist) had to come in on a Saturday to do a procedure and almost missed his son’s game, it seemed like no one else could do the procedure.. but yeah now it seems odd that a patient requiring a heart transplant wouldn’t be Luis’ patient.
I don’t mind if Univision cuts filler scenes, like the part about Pam, it wasn’t important to the story. But, I wish they wouldn’t cut out parts with the doctors seeing patients/performing procedures.. I mean it IS a medical TN lol
UnOp You're right! Luis is the Cardiologist! I think I got thrown off by the story line with the heart transplant! Sorry!
What do you think about Art taking such an interest and making a personal committment to get Flor a heart and see that she has her quinceañera. Also, did you understand that to mean they were going to try to give her a party while she's in the hospital? That doesn't seem practical, as week and sick as Flor is.
Thank you!
I don’t think Art should have promised that they would get her a heart.. I mean it’s not like they have those laying around.. Art also told her that whenever she had her quinceañera he would buy her the dress.. that’s probably still getting too involved, but I can see that he wanted to boost her spirits. But yeah later it sounded like he was already planning the party, so it must be at the hospital, I doubt they found a heart donor the same day. Maybe we’re missing a scene or two there because that DID seem choppy
Oh, OK. Thanks, UnOp! Same understanding. Well. We'll deal with what they put before us! One hour is going to seem like a breeze tonight!
This went into Mexican episode 34. I can't determine what was cut, but I suspect all the scenes were trimmed.
Thanks, Urban. When this happens, do you guys adjust what episode you say it is; should I just post the Univision air date, or what? It's confusing! Thanks!
Thanks, Lila. Super coverage of the double header.
I'm going to scoot my seat over to David's table on the Patio. Loved the way he took no guff from Rene.
Cinthia get huffy with Tania? I guess this is supposed to show us that Rafa has gotten under Cinthia's skin. She's too emotional to not let her feelings show to Tania, which surprises me. I don't want to see Cinthia joining Daniel by acting like a kid.
Hi, Niecie Girl, I been there! Unabashedly love me some David! On Cinthia, I agree with the various criticisms here. That is childish and it IS beneath her but yah, she's only human. Rafa DOES get under her skin and maybe she thought she WAS on the path to beginning to change him from his skirt-chasing ways. She's been holding him off for a long time and was just about to give in. Go back and look at the scene as they were being paged to go to the ER for the triple-injury car accident. Cinthia was about to invite him to come up to her apartment. So, yah, I think she's jealous but she shouldn't be a pissy toddler about it, like Daniel!
Sorry LILA, yesterday was pretty much a "lost" day for me, but I loved your recap, and especially that you did a "once more with feeling" resumen of David's loving, wordless gaze at Regina. And just like his last name Paredes (walls) seems apt for his stubborn, unyielding ways, Regina (queen) sure does seem to be the Queen of Hearts in this one, David, Arturo and even Gonzalo (in a paternal way) seem to be smitten.
Another thing I love is how the discussion keeps crackling away about this show all day long. You help nurture that by your replies, but clearly this is also triggering some STRONG opinions and reactions on the part of the viewers. Clearly a success for Televis even if it's totally implausible that folks in the ER would have so much time for chatting and hanging out. Well, more fun for us that that do.
Very much enjoyed the return of our Amar Sin Ley couple to help extricate Regina and David from their current legal problems. And agree with everyone that alas...this is not the last that we've seen of Sergio. But God willing, we have kissed Cecilia good-bye. Please Telenovela Gods!
Thanks LILA. Glad that you had only one hour last night. But it was jam-packed with events, as usual.
